Poor Dust, he didn't even get to do anything... well, except back sass Nightmare. The Murder Time Trio have got to be the most dysfunctional group in the fandom, that somehow tolerate each-other, and yet, I'm okay with it. lol. Poor Nightmare, has three terrible employee's, no wonder they never make employee of the month. anyway... Error Chara... Good Luck, lol.

Howdy! ;P

If you got that reference, good for you! I'm starting an Undertale comic based on my initial interpretation of the story and characters, and it also ties into my TWOF AU. Obviously, being part of an AU, it has some deviations from the canon, which I'll list here along with the characters:

First, there's Frisk and Chara. The reason I made both of them girls is because way back when I was first starting to roam the Internet and came across Undertale, I watched a dub of the Deeper Down comic, and in that comic, Frisk was addressed as female, and that's been my headcanon ever since. As for Chara, her name just sounded female to me. Also, Frisk is the reincarnation of Chara, which is why they share a Soul trait. Chara was about 15 when she died and Frisk is 12 when she travels through the Underground, so Chara is three inches taller than Frisk.

Flowey, in this AU, is actually a good guy (but still retains some of his sass and snarkiness from the original) and accompanies Frisk through her journey. Despite carrying some of Asriel's essence, he doesn't remember anything from Asriel's life or why he was born as a flower. This is because when Asriel collapsed and turned into dust, it was his chest portion that fell onto the flower that would become Flowey instead of his head, which is what carried his memories and would've resulted in the Flowey we all know and love. That being said, Flowey and Asriel are completely separate entities in this AU. Flowey was about 20 years old by the time Frisk fell.

(Also, just to save my sanity, I'll be using a different Omega Flowey design. Maybe the one from @scaletale-au, since it's pretty much the only pretty Omega Flowey out there, and also the design is just so badass, I couldn't resist.

Speaking of Asriel, here's the Dreemurr boy himself! When he died, he wandered the Underground in his adult form (the form he traveled to Chara's village with when their Souls were fused) as a shadow more than anything, which I'll post here in a minute. As he watched over his family and the monsters and saw Toriel taking care of the fallen humans, he became jealous and resentful, thinking that his mother was just replacing him as if she had forgotten him completely. This is how he became evil and corrupted, but all that is solved when Frisk reaches out to him and helps him remember his sister Chara, and the Hate is expelled from him, but he's still in his adult form (except his robe is purple instead of black and his eyes are green like normal and he has no face stripes).

I'm also thinking that when Asriel regains his physical form, he imprisons Asgore and claims the throne as King of the Underground, having his Hyper Goners hunt down Frisk and her friends while the other monsters hide in Home, the old city.

Here's the goat parents, Toriel and Asgore! When she first met Frisk, Toriel felt as if she was looking at an old friend (Deja-Vu), and when Asgore met Frisk, he commented on how much she reminded him of Chara (remember the "same hope in your eyes" line?). The morning after Frisk and Asgore stopped fighting, Toriel at last made it to Frisk, and she and Asgore made up and got back together.

Sans and Papyrus are relatively the same, only they have tongues and Sans wears sneakers instead of slippers, and Papyrus becomes a little more mature near the end (but not enough to spoil his excitable personality) as Asriel makes himself known to the Underground and asserts himself as a threat. Undyne also appoints Papyrus as a Royal Guard to help them rise up against Asriel. They're the sons of Gaster, and their mom Bree is alive and well (I have yet to make a design for her) and she lives in New Home.

Undyne doesn't change very much, except she has a tail and arm fins because yes. She also turns into her Undying form to protect Frisk from Asriel. As for backstory, her parents were named Jainil and Adella, and they ran the Royal Guard before they died and she took their place (she was born after the Human-Monster War, not before).

Alphys doesn't change much either, except I gave her pants. She assisted Gaster in conducting the Determination experiments, so the Amalgamates were not entirely her fault, although she was still the one who injected the flower with Determination and unintentionally brought Flowey to life.

Mettaton doesn't change at all, he's still the same, except he changes into his NEO form to fight Asriel. Of course, he was a ghost like Napstablook, but then he became friends with Alphys and she gave him a robot body, and that's how he became a TV star.

Finally, there's Gaster and Shadow!Asriel. Gaster doesn't change much, except that he appears a bit more often and guides Frisk and Flowey through the True Lab. As for Shadow!Asriel, it's just Asriel's corrupted ghost form and he haunts Frisk throughout her entire journey, and is the one to taunt her at the end of the Ruins instead of Flowey.

40 Day Anime Challenge Day 20- A ship that makes you question your morality: Amu and Ikuto from Shugo Chara (2007-2009)

Synopsis (paraphrased from MAL: Shy Amu Hinamori struggles to make friends despite her reputed "cool and spicy" personality. Wishing she could be more honest, Amu wakes up one morning with 3 “Heart’s Eggs” that hatch into "Guardian Characters"—manifestations of her would-be self. This sudden appearance prompts the Seiyo Elementary Guardians to to declare her their "Joker," and task her with helping them find X Eggs—corrupted versions of one's Hearts Egg. Amu begins to uncover more about these mysterious Characters, the X Eggs, and the organization that seems to be at the center of it all.

So, I have a whole post about why I ship Amuto- which can be broadly summarized as he’s a bad guy that protects the good girl despite them being on opposite sides, and ultimately becomes a good guy for her, but still with his bad boy sass and flair!

Why does this ship make me question my morality? Weeeeelllllllll...there’s a 5 year age difference, with Amu starting the series around age 11-12, and Ikuto around age 17. Now, look, I would never condone this kind of ship irl. I remember @sailorstarr-chan4 asking me how I would feel about someone like Ikuto going for a dear family friend’s child who was the same age as Amu at the time, whom I’ve known since she was 6. Without skipping a beat, I responded that I would cut off the guy’s manhood and make him eat it. This girl is now 14 and I would still respond that way. However...IN THIS SERIES IT JUST WORKS, OKAY????? And in my defence they’re canon in the manga!!!!

"So what does everyone want to do tonight?" Pete asked with a bright smile on his face as he sat down next to the others on the couch. "We can go smell some of Jay's cooking, we can go watch trick-or-treaters from the boundary..."

Sasappis sighed. "We can listen to you ramble all night." He said with an annoyed tone in his voice.

"Shall we go watch a film?" Isaac inquired. "In the spirit of the season, we could watch something scary."

"Thor like that idea." Thorfinn bellowed. "Thor miss seeing gore on daily basis."

"I do not wish to watch anything with too much blood," Hetty said.

Flower stopped reaching for the 'butterfly' she saw in the air. "Me neither, man! I was always jumpy with horror movies. Too much needless violence!"

Trevor glanced at her. "Flower, you talk about people in the cult locking each other up in a room until one killed the other." She just shrugged in reply. "But I was never a fan of horror films either, I like the college comedy the best."

The jazz singer next to him hummed. "My movie tastes back when I was alive was very different from how it is now. You all know I like anything with Jason Momoa." She paused. "Why don't we watch Aquaman again?"

Sasappis ignored the suggestion from Alberta. "Look, we have two TV's, we can put a scary movie on one and a different movie on the other that more friendly for the kids."

Pete cringed at the name Sass has called the four youngest. "We aren't kids, we just don't want to watch something scary, especially not right now. You saw the story on Jay's phone, right?"

"What is this story you are talking about, Peter?" Isaac questioned.

"There's some psychopath on the loose right now. He could apparently be anywhere." Pete explained.

The Native American man scoffed in disbelief. "I'm sure we're fine. The mansion is in the middle of nowhere. Also, we're ghosts."

"Sasappis right. Not like people can hurt ghosts."

"What 'bout Sam and Jay though?" Trevor weighed in. "They can die or get hurt."

"What are the odds though? It's not like he's contained to one area, like us. He'll pass us by without a second thought."

"Sass is right." Alberta said. "Let's just go watch our movies. Trev, you gotta find something for us to watch and put on something for these four."

"Hetty?" Flower asked. "You're gonna watch a scary movie? For real?"

"Well, I normally will not tolerate gore scenes because of how grotesque they always become. But, I am an adult, I shall be mature and bear it for the sake of Halloween." She said grasping Isaac's arm.

"So it's settled, we will see you after our respective movies." Isaac concluded.

Trevor, after many minutes of struggle that both annoyed and amazed the older ghosts, had put on a movie that caught the eye of the four, entitled: The Purge.

Hetty was already skeptical about the title and the image that appeared on the screen, the mask with the eyes crossed out had freaked her out a bit.

She leaned into Isaac, seeking his comfort when somebody on screen was shot at. He, luckily, leaned to her too, grabbing her hand and rubbing it comfortingly. She noticed his breathing was also very abnormal, taking uneven breaths.

Sasappis wasn't exactly comfortable watching this either, no man was an actual man, instead they were all blood thirsty demons in search of carnage. It terrified him. He didn't even find the story too interesting to watch, he found it predictable which character was gonna die next. The gore scared him the most.

They all jumped at a scare on screen. Isaac gasping loud enough to wake up the dead, and Hetty jumping out of her seat. "This is too much! I tried to be mature but I am sorry, my female brain cannot handle this, Sasappis!" She cried. "It's too much for my eyes to bear! I'm going to make my way to bed. I wish you all a good night."

Isaac rubbed his eyes, trying to hide the tears of fear that were there. "Goodnight, Henrietta. Sleep well, my friend."

The other two murmured a goodnight too as she scurried out of the room as fast as she could in her dress.

Meanwhile, the others were having the time of their lives. The four has taken to singing all the musical numbers of the movie Trevor had chosen for the group, Nightmare Before Christmas. This movie seemed to have something for everyone, but they all enjoyed the music!

While singing 'Kidnap the Santa Clause', they heard loud screams from the other room. Trevor chuckled, as everyone in the group stopped belting out the lyrics but Flower, who kept singing and dancing on the couch.

"And that is why I hate horror movies." He said.

Pete grimaced. "I kinda feel bad, I mean, Hetty's in there. She can't handle gore. And Isaac's been in war for goodness sake, what if he has PTSD?!"

"If they decide they can't handle it, they'll either come join us, or stop the movie." Alberta reasoned over Flowers's slightly offkey singing. "And I'm sure they are fine anyways, they did want to watch a horror in the first place which meant they had to have known what they were stepping into."

"Fine," Pete said. "I just hope they're alright."

Trevor laughed. "Hetty's tougher than she seems, and Isaac knows it's all fake. I'm sure the gunshot wounds don't even look real."

"Why do the gunshot wounds look so real??!!" Isaac screamed. He was covering half his face with his coat in terror. Why, oh why did they decide to watch this?

Sasappis had his eyes wide open and his jaw on the floor. "This movie was made by evil people, pure, pure evil. Who could even imagine something like this?!"

Another person was shot on screen, causing the three men to jump. "No, no, no. That it. Thor not watch anymore. Too scary even for Thorfinn." Thorfinn shuddered.

Sasappis got off the couch. "Yeah, I'm not watching anymore either. The concept is just too horrifying, I come up with my own scary stories and none of them are like that." He looked at Isaac and reached out his hand. "Come on, that's it, we aren't gonna watch anymore, this is nightmare fuel."

Isaac shook his head with distinct hesitation. "I can finish it. I was a captain, I can do this."

Sasappis sighed. Isaac wasn't gonna leave, the man was too determined to finish what he started, even if it meant sacrificing his sleep. "Okay, we'll be in our rooms." He said subtly offering help if needed later.

Isaac awoke to a loud crash downstairs. He jolted up in surprise and looked at the clock Samantha kept on the wall.

Who in the world would be up at 3 a.m.? Sure, Hetty had insomnia often, but she couldn't touch things. So what had caused the sound?

Sasappis and Thorfinn peeked their head through the door. "What was that?" Sasappis had asked.

"I have no idea, why are you asking me?" Isaac said in reply. "It came from downstairs."

"What if it dangerous man Pete talking about. What if Purge is going on in world outside?"

Isaac paced through the door and looked at the two of his oldest friends. "I'm sure we are fine, maybe a pot or pan from the kitchen fell?"

Just then, Hetty came racing down the hall. "I was searching everywhere for you three!" She whisper-shouted. "A window is open in Flower and my room. I believe someone might have broken in!"

Isaacs's eyes went wide and the four dead souls glanced at each other in worry. "Alright troops," Isaac commanded, getting back into his old captain mindset. "We shall split up and search the house for anomalies."

"No, you idiot!" Sasappis objected. "Never split up! It's like a death wish!"

"Sass is right. We see movie Scream with Trevor last week. We learn all about the rules."

"There are rules?" Isaac inquired.

"Yeah, you also can't have sex," Hetty blushed and looked down. "You can't drink or do drugs, and you can't say: 'I'll be right back.' You won't be right back." Sasappis explained to the two twin like best friends. "Good thing I'm a virg-" He cut himself off, realizing what he had said. "N-nevermind."

"So it's settled, we shall storm the house together."

The quartet tiptoed down the stairs, being careful not to make a sound. Even Thor kept his feet light, so as to not alert the possible intruder.

Clangs of metal echoed throughout the house, originating from the kitchen. Isaac put his head as close to the door as possible without putting it through.

Another sound came from the study upstairs, making everyone jump. Isaac yelped and almost fell to the floor, but Hetty caught him before he fell flat on his back.

"What was that?!" Sasappis yelled.

Isaac scrambled up out of Hetty's grasp and turned to the stairs. "Someone must check that out too."

Hetty sighed. "Silly rules aside, this is not a movie. We shall be fine going to check it out by ourselves, Isaac. We shall go upstairs and check the library while Sasappis and Thorfinn check the kitchen."

"Alright, don't blame us when you've been gutted like a fish." Sasappis countered.

"We shall be right back," Isaac said before he could stop himself. "Damn my mouth." He muttered under his breath.

Sasappis and Thorfinn stepped toward the door, both glancing at each other uncertainly. "Thor, I want to be a good best friend and insist you go ahead."

Thorfinn laughed. "No, no, Sass. You go first."

"But I insist."

"Thor double insists."

Sasappis exhaled and looked at the door, pausing for just a moment before he stepped through. Thor lagged behind him.

It was dark, but through the dark, they could see a mess in the kitchen. Pots, pans, and ingredients were spilled throughout the room. A red liquid was dripping off the table, and Sass gasped. "Is that... blood?"

"Thor know blood. That is blood." He said, terror seeping through his voice

A man rose up from behind the island, he held a object in his raised hand. "I'm gonna kill you!"

Thor and Sasappis screamed in horror as they ran out of the kitchen, not looking back.

In the meanwhile, Hetty and Isaac climbed the stairs. Hetty was grasping onto Isaacs's arm so tightly, it would have stopped his circulation.

Another loud bang came from the room in question, causing them both to cower together. "You said: 'We'll be right back', Isaac. You have doomed us."

"I'm sorry, okay! It just slipped out!"

They fazed their heads through a wall to see what was going on. Inside the dark room, they saw the silhouette of a woman, she was hitting the safe with the sharp end of a hammer.

Hetty gasped and pulled Isaac out through the wall. "We are being robbed! I bet you tonight is a Purge night! We are all going to die!" Hetty hissed, overcome with hysteria.

Just then, Sasappis and Thorfinn came running up the stairs in a hurry. "There is a murderer in the kitchen! I think he killed Sam and Jay! There is blood all over the table!"

"Gadzooks!"

"They killed Sam and Jay?!"

Thor nodded. "Puny man and tiny woman stood no chance."

"Well, there is a robber in this room trying to break into the safe!" Hetty exclaimed.

Sasappis inhaled deeply, trying to calm himself down. "It can't be the Purge. Sam would have told us."

"Sam not tell us things in past cause she thought it would freak out us. What if the same tonight?"

"Whatever it is, what can we even do?" Hetty yelled.

Sasappis and Thor tensed. "You guys," Sasappis said. "Run. There are people right behind you. "

"Oh, very funny Sasappis." Hetty scoffed.

"I'm not kidding run!"

Isaac and Hetty both turned around, not expecting anything, only to be spooked by five shadows behind them.

The four ran down the hall and down the stairs, screaming and yelling out in horror.

"We're gonna die!"

"Let me into Valhalla, gods!"

"IT'S THE BLOODY PURGE!"

"WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?!"

The ghosts stopped running about at the sound of Trevor yelling over their screams. They all turned and saw the four youngest ghosts staring at them like they were crazy. "What in petes sake is wrong with you four?" Alberta asked.

"Sam and Jay are dead!" Sasappis yelled.

"I think we are anything but dead, Sass." Sam said. The lights all flickered on, illuminating the once dark room. The four gazed up the stairs in incredulity, before quickly making their way closer to the woman they though was dead.

"Samantha! Thank goodness you are alive!" Hetty exclaimed. "We had thought the murderer in the kitchen had gotten you!"

Sam raised her eyebrows. "Murderer in the kitchen? Wait back up."

Just then, Jay strode out in kitchen door holding a spatchula. "Hey babe, I finally killed that bug in the kitchen."

"Bug?" Isaac said.

"Yeah, the power went out while Jay was in the middle of making us a late night snack so I went to the safe to grab a flashlight."

Thorfinn pointed upstairs. "Why you hitting safe like Thor used to hit Danes?"

"The lock got stuck again. This time I couldn't get it open." Sam explained.

"What about the blood on the kitchen table?" Sasappis asked, looking over at Jay.

Sam looked at Jay, who was cleaning off 'blood' from his hands. "Sass wants to know why there was 'blood' on the table."

The man laughed. "That wasn't blood!" He explained. "I spilled red food dye! When the power shut off, I started dropping pans and spilling things like crazy!"

"Wait." Isaac said. "You mean, there was no intruder?"

"But my window was open!"

Sam smiled. "I must have just forgot to shut it." She said. "Are you four alright? You look really scared."

Thorfinn laughed, embarrassed. "Thor wasn't scared, tears are from allergies."

"Yes, Sam we are right as rain." Isaac said confidently.

"BOO!" Flower screamed as she jumped out from behind the group.

The four flinched and yelped, Hetty and Isaac jumped into each others arms and Thorfinn hid behind Sasappis who was covering his face with his hands. "Oh my god, we are gonna die!" He yelled through his hands.

"You're already dead! We are already dead!" Trevor said with a wide grin.

Alberta tsked. "You poor babys, you should have come watched a movie with us! Instead of watching that blood-bath you did!"

Sam turned toward them in surprise. "You four watched a scary movie? What was it called?"

okay just for my own sake heres my relationships with the undertale cast.

for context: in jeremytale, as im calling it, the Player latches onto me instead of frisk but frisk is still there. and killing someone is never a possibility. the dialogue options, whether mean or sarcastic, are something I myself would say regardless of being possessed by an Entity

ok so a few days back i saw a post saying that the best way to adapt tlt would be as a video game and i sure do wish i could find the post cause i just scrolled at the time but now i Can’t Stop Thinking About It.

imagine the absolute nonsense that could happen in a choices-based, story-focused game with some fun fight mechanics added in for a moment. imagine playing through GtN and getting options like >LOOK FOR CLUES TO LYCTORHOOD directly next to >GO FIND HOT SEVENTH HOUSE NECRO and if you choose the first option you get text like “You wander through the halls of Canaan House. It’s big and maze-like. You eventually stumble on an old abandoned Training Room and decide to stay there a while and use the pull-up bar. You completely forget about Lyctorhood.” imagine the list of dialogue options that could happen once the player breaks gideon’s oath of silence. imagine the duel with babs in video game format. imagine a GAME OVER screen popping up during the avulsion trial and then getting replaced by JUST KIDDING. YOU LIVED, SOMEHOW. imagine gideon grumbling and sassing the player every time they have her make a choice of any kind, regardless of whether that choice lines up with canon. like you can choose >GIVE HARROW A HUG or >CALL HARROW A MEAN NAME and if you pick the first one you get “What the fuck? Hug Harrow? Fine, whatever. Gross.” and if you pick the other you get “Yeah, let’s do it-- although, honestly, we just kind of kicked major ass together, and like, you’re sort of a huge dick, you know that?” just imagine gideon as a video game protagonist for a second.

imagine her going full chara undertale at the end. imagine going through the same fight a million times and it’s impossibly hard and no strategy seems to work and you’ve lost over and over but you eventually hit the landmark point of “harrow makes her wall” and then she suggests her idea of “just survive the fall into the water and i’ll stay here,” prompting the choice screen of >ACCEPT HARROW’S PLAN or >DO NOT. imagine choosing option A results in “Hey, you? Asshole who’s been trying to control me this whole time? Yeah, fuck you. That’s a stupid plan, and you’re stupid.” and it prompts exactly the same final scene no matter what.

alternatively, imagine playing GtN from harrow’s perspective and it goes exactly the opposite way in terms of how she influences the player’s choices. it has choices like >SHOW GRIDDLE DOOR MAP, >TELL GRIDDLE TO GO FUCK HERSELF, and >TRY TO FIGHT GRIDDLE, and harrow expresses open and clear interest in the latter two choices, sometimes going as far as trying to force the player to choose them, but it never works because only the first one will progress the game. imagine partaking in the same “put skeletons in the response” chamber strategy a bunch of times, with the flavor text changing ever so subtly to reflect that she’s losing energy, and eventually the option of >GO TALK TO GRIDDLE shows up but trying to click it results in her saying “Don’t be ridiculous” or “I would sooner rip out my own spine” and so your only option as a player is to just keep spawning skeletons until you pass out. and she still keeps offering a million non-griddle-assisted options and you can try to choose them and she’ll thank you for it in a very “well, obviously, that’s the correct option” sort of way, but they always dead-end.

eventually, her desires start lining up with the “right” choices. you get options like >LIE ABOUT THE CRECHE FLU or >TELL GIDEON EVERYTHING and picking the former results in open disdain from harrow and doesn’t move the game forward. imagine the game spends a little bit in perfect sync with her choices. and then, of course, it doesn’t. and there’s a screen in cyth’s fight right as gideon is in the middle of falling forward that allows you to reset to another point in the fight so you can make a different choice. imagine making every single possible choice in the entire fight looking for some kind of secret ending that simply doesn’t exist.

o hi there!!! so technically you can start whenever you want - some series reference previous series a bit more than others but if youre sticking with 80s-2000s trek it doesnt make a big difference (new trek such as discovery, strange new worlds, lower decks..... its a whole other ball game you really need context)

so now its rly all about the vibes you want!!

2009 movies: a LOT of new trek enjoyers got into the series through these ones - theres only 3 movies and their pacing is p much like most modern media so theyre easy to consume. more actiony than the rest of star trek. they are gonna have people like kirk and spock and bones etc

ToS (the original series): the OG! what started it all! this is the technical START of the series but its got really slow pacing so it might be harder to get through. this is THEE epitomy of submarine warfare but we love it. makes up for it by silly 60s shoestring budget, sass, COLOUR, and the most iconic charas in star trek (kirk, spock, bones, uhura, scotty - its a great time!)

TNG (the next generation): another really good place to start the series (this was my start as a kiddo) essentially this is the trek most people think of and sets the vibe. good pacing, consistent story, more modern graphics, and provides most of the worldbuilding for the whole series. the vibe here is mostly diplomacy > action but dw we still got silly scifi happenings. this will have picard, riker, worf, data, etc

ds9 (deep space 9): tumblr's darling child. the MOST gay and chaotic out of any of the treks - its insane how good (and bad) it can get. this has some carryover from tng but doesnt effect the story at large. a drawback for most people is its based on one spacestation so theres little to no exploring which is the bread and butter of star trek - it makes up for it by delving deeply into the alien races that live nearby instead of having them The Alien of the Week and never talking about it again. big themes of Imperialism/resistance/spirituality which is just Chefs Kiss. has characters like sisko, julien, garak, dax, kira, obrien, quark/odo, worf again

Voy (voyager): ever wonder what these ships are like in a crisis situation? ever think "wow star treks idealism would be hard to hold up without support and safety?" WELCOME TO STAR TREK: SURVIVOR. ship gets stranded hundreds of years from home and has to make the long journey back with little resources, allies, and a stedily degrading ship and crew. VOY weirdly has a bad rep but its v good and i just chalk that up to weird nerd sexism about the first female captain (Janeway my beloved). ofc it has its ups and downs like EVERY star trek series. crew becomes very much like a found family and theres tons of exploring since everything is new and exciting! has people like Janeway, Chakotay, Tuvok, Seven of Nine

ENT (enterprise): we've had a LOT of starships called Enterprise but this is the first! this predates the federation which is the defining theme of star trek in general. it heavily leans into a low tech astronaut feeling instead of scifi science magic. got canceled when it was just getting good and i really think its worth a watch. has people like Archer, T'pol, hoshi, Shran

thinking abt (the great) war and disability and dion again.

was reading US surgeon-general/american red cross magazine called "carry on," which was published about and for the war disabled and esp ppl with new amputations. its view is p typical: a man doesnt need to be pitied or given money or he'll become wretched and depressed and a social parasite, so we're going to assure u that u can do all kinds of work, make ur own money, and do everything a normal man can do w some work arounds.

meanwhile hostels like st dunstan's for newly blind ppl chartered rehab programs thru donations by making stock appeals abt sacrifice, bravery, and the terror + misery of losing smth you thought was indelible to ur life once. and these two examples typify a lot of the attitudes that sassoon sums up in 'does it matter?' which, btw, im still pissed that the sass biopic didnt use at the end so that it could quote wilfred owen's 'disabled' instead??? in the end, both of their poetry still has a root in the fear of disability occuring to themselves that i think is more evident than in some fiction writers

jeno heltai's aviator w one arm had everything wrong w his head via hallucinations, alcoholism, distorted sense of time and value, that it was fairly easy to forget that karmel depicted a figure that was frightening to others bc of his amputation + not solely his mental condition. ernst weiss almost does the same thing in his short story abt the man who loses himself in rage and blame after he gets invalidated home bc his genitals got lobbed off in the war. the chara describes how he feels and looks feminized for a bit, and then it kind of gets lost in him ranting abt cows and rocks and killing his wife.

and like, if we take a step back from the stories, theyve created a character made more frightening by their physical disabilities, visible and not, which kind of makes them more and less of people at the same time. they escape the matyr figure and become psychological studies. i want to read more.

i think of how the US economy expected men to return capable of the same work they were doing before (or more), and how, like in larry barretto's writing, they didnt account for how many would be mentally and physically unable to do it. modeled after germany, disabled men were then shuffled through work programs modeled to give them independence through undervalued labor like on farms, which must have exacerbated all kinds of economic class things re: those who had to take care of themselves vs those who had family who could do it for them

anyway. i think back to this again bc i find that when i think of dion, i project this interest on him. ofc i have my right arm amputee dion, but i find myself thinking how any challenge to his relationship w his body, what parts he he has autonomy over, and so on make my brain brrrr. he has nothing of the societal vulnerability of the normal soldier, tho, but his temperament and the jist of the curse, bahamut, and his wider duty attract me to the idea

what if the boom after origin had damaged his hearing, or if he starts to betray symptoms of a concussion? how does he write when the curse stiffness his wrist, does the flying and jumping do anything to his lungs or balance, and do any of his medicines nauseate him? if his foot was twisted or his hip was weak, would he allow himself to walk less or until he couldnt? what narrative would he buy into abt his worth, purpose, and responsibility? i wanna see all kinds of dions
