"That's not fair, you know."

The deer half-breed kicked a rock a few feet ahead of him, pacing along the length of the courtyard. The centre was often quiet at dusk, allowing Vox and Dario to enjoy the departing light of day in solitude. "You have so much here."

"Do I really?" The boy carved at the wood in his left hand with a fairly dulled blade. His words carried a defeat not uncommon for him. "I can't expect you to be there every time I get into trouble, which is more reason for me to leave."

"You think I would be at all equipped to help you out there?" Dario pressed the bridge of his nose with his fingers. "Not to sound ungrateful, it's sweet of you... but things aren't going to get better here for me."

Vox sighed, falling back onto the grass behind him. Dario wasn't wrong; the Triumvirate continued to dominate the socio-political climate in High Central, and the hostility towards half-breeds bloomed in droves with each passing day.

"Not with the "Grand Illuminar" in power." Vox's words were laced with venom as he swung around air quotes - while not directly impacted by the regime, it wasn't difficult to notice the growing divide within their community. "I already made up my mind anyway, pal. You're stuck with me, remember?"

The stag chuckled, knowing there wasn't anything he could say or do to stop the boy. Loyalty to a fault was a double-edged sword.

"My burden to bear."

The scout shook his head, turning to face Dagny.

"The Grand Illuminar." Vox cleared his throat. "Kezia. She worked with Darien during my younger years here in High Central. I can't speak too much on what happened after I left, but she's about as dangerous as it gets."

Vox moved in closer to his son, maintaining some distance but wanting to be nearby in the event of the worst.

"You need to be careful, Liam. She didn't become one of the most prolific figures in High Central by doing nothing."

It’s Gorgug’s idea, is the point. They’re sitting on the floor of her apartment in Bastion City and she can’t even look at him when he says it: still holding her hand, still looking at her snotty tear-stricken face with those big dark eyes, patient and mesmerizing and horrible and perfect. He does this despite the tissues balled up on the floor, despite the makeup flaking off her cheeks, despite the dishes in the sink, despite the missed calls and the missed lunches and the missed rehearsals and despite despite despite her big ugly terrible mess, he is there.

He offered his words gently, genuinely, no expectation in the quiet rasp of his voice. “Why don’t you come home?”

Well I don't know if I'd call what I do 'talents' but thank you for the compliment eddie. I suppose I write as well, nothing much just short stories or dreams I've had in the past. Though I admit I'm too nervous show them to anyone. My writing is a bit odd to say the least. Though I write romance mostly, sometimes i write fantasy. Besides that I'm pretty boring hehe. I help take care of my grandmother and her dogs, but it gets to be pretty lonely at times.

Nonsense, darling, you’re being too modest. You must give yourself some credit for the wonderful things you do. A writer too! I’m sure your work is splendid.

Such a kind soul. I admire the love and support you provide to your grandmother. You truly are a natural caregiver. You needn’t be lonely any longer. After all, you do have me. Besides, love will inevitably find someone as beautiful as you.

Greet The New Day

Billy cleared his throat, clicking on the camera. It took him so long to work up the courage to even pull out the camera. He'd bought one, when he'd gotten the new lair, to do blogs with, but…

"So, it's been a while." He stared at the camera, letting out a long sigh through his nose.

Jeez, Billy, get it together!

He cleared his throat again, "As you all must know, I've been inducted into the ELE for… two years now. Time sure does fly when you're… being evil."

"Whatever," he pushed his goggles up onto his forehead, like how he used to wear them, before. Before the end of the earth. "More importantly, I have something to show you. The only reason I'm picking up the camera again, really."

"My house has been invaded." He leaned into the camera, "I was on my way home after one of my most successful heists, I'm sure you all know about the recent robbery of every major bank in the US at once! Some of my best work, really, it took weeks to set up- but that's not what this is about."

"As I said, I was on my walk home-"

There was a snuffling from the door to his lab. Billy paused.

"I was using one of the main gaits of terrestrial locomotion among legged animals to get home after a most successful heist! When something hijacked my way home. It wouldn't leave me alone all the way up to my lab- the fancy new one the ELE gave me, yeah- on the note of that, some of you may know but I've perfected the laugh! The only reason you'd know is if you got to see me in person or because of videos on YouTube- which is so disrespectful, by the way! I'm doing an art when I'm doing a heist, and if you're just sitting there taking a video and not appreciating it? Like, I'm working for social change and you're on your phone!"

"But whatevs, I guess. Anyway, the laugh:"

He swallowed, taking a breath before letting out an evil cackle fitting of a member of the Evil League of Evil: "MWUH-HA-HAHA-HAHAHA!"

and then the door to his lab burst open with an excited Bark! Bark! Bark!

Billy didn't get a chance to react before he was being pushed to the side and a black, white, and brown blur was jumping up onto his table and licking his face with a big blue tongue.

"Haha- Wait! Nickel- Nickel, down-" Billy protested in vain, getting a face full of excited dog. He couldn't stop the peals of laughter as Nickel jumped into his lap to get a better vantage point. Nickel's tail was wagging so hard it knocked over the unfinished rays on his desk.

"Nickel! Down!" Billy finally managed to pry off the dog, getting a clumsy boof sound in response.

"Meet my home invader." Billy rubbed his face on his sleeve, trying to get rid of the dog spit, "He's made himself a home here, the fiend, and so I have decided to call upon my watchers to help me give him an alias! I can't be calling him his name in front of heroes, after all."

"I'll be checking my emails again after this goes up, but only for an hour. Don't waste my time."

"Peace! But, not literally." He gave the camera his lopsided peace sign around Nickel, who wagged his tail at the movement.

Oh you look far from horrendous don't worry. Sometimes you just make due with what you have available, but it still turned out very good. Your vest is stylish for its array of blues, one would think it an intentional fashion choice. Either way you look dashing. In any event I hope you have an appetite cause I made a small feast for you.

I hope you don't mind southern cooking but its all I could make with what I had at home. We have fried chicken,mac n cheese, coleslaw, and some sweet potatoe pie for dessert. I also have some sweet tea but my grandma made it since I can't be trusted with sugar apparently heh.

Coming from such a beautiful woman as yourself, that is quite the compliment.

This smells absolutely divine, darling! I can’t remember the last time I had someone cook for me.
