Okay so I am just brainstorming my MCD Scfi Au and one of my favorite scifi movies is Fifth Element, it is what I have based Aphmau on in it but right now the only thing ai can think about is how perfect Lo would embody Ruby Rhod

There seems to be a contention that Only Friends is not a romance. And indeed it is absolutely not capital R romance. It is a drama with a love story. First, it's important to understand that a romance and a love story are not interchangeable. A capital R romance, per the RWA(an organization that we shall not discuss due to a myriad of reasons that are not important here), that has two main components. First, the main plot centers around individuals falling in love and struggling to make the relationship work. Second, it has an emotionally satisfying and optimistic ending which most aficionados of the genre simplfy to mean it has either a hea(happily ever after) or hfn(happy for now). And well Only Friends is not this. At all.

Now what is a love story? This is a sticking point because some people think all love stories should be considered romances. Isn't love and romance the same thing? No, not when we are discussing literature or movies/tv and genre distinctions. A love story can be part of any drama, or fantasy, or scfi. The romance is not the main focus of the story. It's just one element of the story. Also, the characters tend to be more complicated and flawed and a happy ending is not guaranteed. Often in a love story, the couple will get together early on but external forces(*cough*) separate them and that may or may not prevent them from ending up together since a happy ending is not guaranteed in a love story(any of this sounding familiar?).

Why do I think that TopMew is in a love story that is going to have a happy ending? First, they got together fairly early. Their main conflict was caused by an external force(Boston lying/manipulating Top into cheating). Their breakup was much earlier than in any romance(that waits until the third act which is why there's a dreaded 11th episode breakup/drama in BLs which are capital R romances). I literally wished for a breakup when we got one because that would give the show time to rebuild the relationship. We have four episodes left and there are signs that both are still in love and yearning for each other despite the pain they are in. Mew asking Top why he had to be an asshole is a sign that he still loves Top. That they would still be together without it. The song at the end of episode 8 starts playing as Top is staring down at Mew has the following lyrics play over their scenes:

The season is about to alter, The storm will soon be over

But it's not just the wind that will disappear

It takes you with it, far away from here

What am I doing after this, Is resist that strong wind

No matter how much pain I must take in

I'll wait until you are back by my side

You keep my dreams so much alive

I insist on waiting, I will be here loving

To keep us together, I'll do anything

It cuts away for the montage and comes back to Top and Mew and ends with the following lyrics:

Now I know many people did not view that as a romantic scene for various reasons but...if it was not intended that way, then Jojo and the team picked the absolutely wrong song with the wrong lyrics if they were not trying to signal there is hope for this relationship to survive. And the music has been so well chosen this series I doubt that there could be such a serious miscommunication in intend with this song. This is the ending shot of the episode:

And that speaks volumes in my opinion.

script edits and setting up what roles we are doing: Aesthetic research

I worked with my group and we decided who script we are going to use for final script and decided together what elements we would keep in and add from our review with lecturer. we did this to improve our script from the lecturer and we know how to do it next time. we did this by dicussing amongst ourselves whos script we would choose and discussing with the lecturer how we could improve. we chose our roles on what each of us are going to do by discussing amongst ourselves.

I did research on the the aesthetics and the mood boards . I did this by researching images based on my our theme western, scfi landscapes from movies, cartoons that I thought would be a good aesthetic for this . I made colour swatches from these images . I gathered these images to get ideas on what the landscape, characters could look like from these images.

Sanctuary is such an underappreciated show. Its like if a scfi b movie were an entire tv show!! It has everything: girlbosses, vampire manwhore nikola tesla, time travel, nerdy werewolf, bigfoot and jack the ripper are played by the same actor and theyre both recurring characters, the worst green screen imaginable; what more could you want?!

favorite horror movie? (If you like them)

So I love horror movies of all kinds, so a favorite is a tough ask. I'm a massive creature feature lover, and some of my favorites are now listed as horror comedy. Stuff liketremors and critters and gremlins are close to my heart as childhood staples. There's the scfi action horrors that will always be go-to's like the predator and alien series. Then there's the eerie and off putting things like the shining or the village. All of which I love, but thinking of the horror genre it's supposed to be scary in a way and there has only been one movie that ever truly terrified me and it was signs by M Night Shyamalan.

Signs has to be the #1 horror film for me in that I hated it, it scared me to tears back when I first watched it and I still can't watch it now without goosebumps and an overwhelming sense of panic. I was young when I watched it for the first time, and it caused fear in me like no other. It instilled in me a dread at that time that my parents remember very keenly and will gladly talk about if it's brought up. Honestly, even the soundtrack of the movie is enough to get me on edge as a grown man, which should tell you what kind of a grip it had on me as a kid. The music was beyond eerie, and the sound design in it is some of the best I've ever come across. If you've never watched it, I highly recommend it.

I get that SciFi and Fantasy are related genre, but I hate hate hate the recent trend of every single fantasy thing also needing to be SciFi. My tolerance for SciFi bullshit is *very* limited, and for once I'd like to be able to pick up a book or watch a movie and have it not turn out to be some cheap cliché SciFi troupe masquerading under the Fantasy label. I also hate how people seem to think any tech at all = SciFi. Tech is allowed to exist within fiction without automatically being labeled as ScFi. Believe it or not SciFi is not the be all and end all of fiction

Most of all I just really hate aliens. Why are they everywhere, in everything at all times

I like art again. Just put apples in the oven. Terrible day , no motivation, lethargic in everyway possible. Where should I live? Like the idea of the ocean near by ready to envelop me. Like the idea of wheat fields. And dairy farms. Like the smell. I don't know what makes me happy right now. People. But I'm always so reluctant to go out. But it's always nice chatting to people. But it feels so secondary nowadays. Peripheral. Which feels healthy, but sometimes the centre shifts. Hate being unemployed. Just hate the endless free time. Maybe just one of those days today though. Cause shit weather. Watched weird movie last night that felt so pointless. I usually find movies pointless to be honest. Rarely interested in beauty, sensation, rarely moving. Don't really get dialogue hevay movies, wpople talking about stuff, story telling, not particularly moved by that. Just enjoy romance, light, set design, good interiors, people looking at each other, at things. Wait- what was that AI incest pedophilia movie. That was actually good. Other good science fiction that actually made me think about existential stuff and not just be bored was Her, and under the skin of you'd call it scfi. Most movies I can hardly sit through they're so boring and I don't get the drive to make them so. I liked bones and all, a lot! Others recently were all about Eve, ummmmmm. What's it called with the Japanese up skirt religious thing and has love in the name?
