Johann Friedrich Blumenbach (1752–1840) divided the human species into five races in 1779, later founded on crania research (description of human skulls), and called them (1793/1795): the Caucasian race (Europe, the Caucasus, Asia Minor, North Africa and West Asia) I STRONGLY BELIEVE THIS WAS A BAD MOVE IN SCIENCE TO STUDY HUMAN BEINGS AS A SPECIES AND A RACE! HUMAN BEINGS ARE HUMAN BEINGS AND THERE SHOULDN'T BE SPECIES OR RACES IN OUR NOMENCLATURE AND CLASSIFICATION! WE ARE NOT ANIMALS WHO COMPETE FOR THE FITTEST. INSTEAD THROUGH ARBITRARY COLLABORATION, UNDERSTANDING, AND ADAPTATION, WE ENGAGED IN A WIN-WIN RELATIONSHIP, AND THIS SHOULD ALWAYS BE THE NORM! FAILURE TO UNDERSTAND THIS RELIGIOUS TRUTH AND GOD ORDAINED PRINCIPLE WILL ALWAYS LEAD TO CHAOTIC INTERACTION WITH OUR KIND. SIMPLY BECAUSE ONE WILL BASE HIS SUPERIORITY OVER ANOTHER DUE TO HIS SKIN COLOURATION, TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENT AND ENVIRONMENTAL ADAPTATION, DOESN'T NECESSARILY MEAN THAT YOU ARE A SUPERIOR HUMAN BEING! Reposted from @reform_for_equity - These statistics clearly show that our country is investing money in oppression rather than advancement. WHY SCHOOLS SHOULD ADAPT TO THE FUTURE OF TOMORROW
In the face of constant change, students will need to have different skills all the time. Education is the foundation on which a country is built.
It is through education that we help our children to reach their full potential, both as productive members of the economy and as responsible, principled citizens. But how can we build an education system that best develops the adults of tomorrow? It’s…

Stereotypes
In today’s society, woman are constantly thought of as weak and powerless while men are thought of as strong, aggressive, and emotionless. These stereotypes create deep rooted systemic issues in society, so in our utopia these stereotypes will be abolished. The solution will start early in the school system. Instead of or in addition to gym class every week, girls will be taught self defense. Likewise, boys will be taught mindfulness and mediation and how to express their emotions naturally. No longer will women be forced into a victim role and feel powerless against aggressors. No longer will men face emotionally turmoil because they have been taught to suppress feelings. Also, boys will be taught from an extremely young age the definition of consent, just how wrong sexual assault is, and the extreme punishments one faces for committing such a heinous crime. School curriculum will be infused with lessons on gender equality, and roundtable discussions on what they have learned.

Meanwhile... 012 As much as this episode is a commentary about conventional teaching methods, I think it also speaks to the deep affinity I have for fictional characters. There are times when I feel like they've spoken for me and I've spoken through them, be they characters of my own making or of others. Anyway, back to the narrative on teaching. I have a lot of issues with the standard approach that conventional teaching takes. These issues range from educator wages including those within early years as well as primary and secondary schooling, teacher to student ratios, the focus on "the whole" to the extent that "the self" gets lost in the haze, and many other areas that need more balance. In regards to the attitude towards teaching at present as I write this - during the COVID-19 pandemic - I'll say this, which I wrote in reply to a relative who feels likewise... During this pandemic, people have underestimated what a great opportunity this social shift has been to engage children in much more different approaches to teaching. It's the perfect opportunity for the children to focus more on family, connections, homelife, and share that with one another through their education - rather than making them reflect on learning a curriculum, let them reflect on themselves, and let them share what they're comfortable sharing with their peers and teachers. This opportunity, for children to be liberated from the structures and social moors that bind them, is a rare thing. These children have a wonderful chance of connecting with peers, teachers and even family in some cases, in a way that has meaning, individuality and sincerity. Adhere to some curriculum guides by all means, but don't pretend this is a normal scenario. Doing that is an enormous disservice to how openly, sincerely and honestly children view the world. We shouldn't be letting one of the greatest challenges faced in their lifetime - in our lifetime - be a lesson in maintaining the status-quo. All that teaches them is that their own journey, their own selves, their own uncertainties, are things that need to be uniformly shaped so that they can be stacked uniformly in order. Children could learn so much more from this if the perception of what "learning" is was shifted. And in regards to the very valid argument that schools are a safer place for some children than it is for them being at home, that in itself just shows another facet of our social standards that desperately need to be addressed and why maintaining or returning to the status-quo shouldn’t be the end goal - not now and not ever as long as any child is at risk. Education that includes growth that's emotional - not just academic - would be a lovely place to start. Because those children become adults. Teach them to be good ones, not just workers. -::-::-::- brettjcole.com instagram.com/brettjcole twitter.com/brettjcole facebook.com/brettjcole brettjcole.tumblr.com Merch Available at Redbubble bit.ly/BJC-Redbubble #brettjcole #meanwhileBJC #meanwhile #actuallyautistic #autisticart #autisticartist #autismacceptance #autism #drawing #illustrator #artistsoninstagram #cartoonist #art #writing #humor #satire #comics #students #educationreform #education #teaching #schoolreform

Great blog post by Smagorinsky about the myth of failing schools: "I find considerable evidence for this phenomenon in Arne Duncan and David Coleman’s educational world and their decision to barge ahead with Race to the Top and the Common Core State Standards, even though there is no evidence whatsoever to indicate a need for either, or the efficaciousness of either as planned and implemented. ... [T]hey are part of a great national chorus of people repeating over and over that schools are in crisis, teachers are terrible, public education doesn’t work, market-based thinking applies as well to schooling as it does to commerce, charter schools work by virtue of being charter schools, vouchers can enable private schools to admit unlimited numbers of students who don’t want to attend their neighborhood schools, educators know less about education than people who have never taught in schools, teachers are greedy and selfish, principals all know what’s best for teachers and students and so should have unlimited authority, and countless other canards whose verity follows from repetition rather than documentation."
