People out here really are thinking fiction means you’re writing your opinions and rubbing them on others. Especially the fanfiction.

The author made someone the antagonist? Oh they hate that character, how dare they?

The antagonist character is not white? Oh they are racist, what the heck?

The author is subtly trying to justify canon character? Oh they obviously didn’t watch the show.

The protagonists are not a canon couple? Oh they’re mortal enemies, how twisted are they to make them lovers?

It goes on and on and on. I see this in so many fandoms. Like, chill out bro! It’s fiction. You got a problem, scroll on, unless it is actually harming someone. If it’s just against your own opinion, don’t engage. Don’t bother them. Mind your business. You have a brain, so it shouldn’t be that difficult, right?

We're back for 2024!

Teen Wolf AU Fest is an open collection prompt fest that will take place over five weeks, starting in the first week of May.

This fest will be similar to fests like Flufftober or Kinktober in that anyone can participate as little or as much as they want. Instead of daily prompts, however, there will be two weekly prompts to choose from. For 2024, these prompts will be beings and places. We're also introducing bonus prompts for genre.

FAQ

This is a low-key, participate as-you-wish fest. You can create something for all five weeks or just for one.

The prompts will be posted weekly through the Tumblr fest blog (@twaufest). At least one of the weekly prompts should be incorporated in the work.

There will be two prompts per week. You can use one or both of them. There will also be a bonus genre prompt, if you wish to also include that.

You can create one work using just one of the weekly prompts, or create one work with both prompts, or create two works using one prompts for each work.

All ships are welcome (or lack thereof).

All types of transformative fanworks are welcome.

Your work can be shared in the AO3 collection (twaufest24) and/or on Tumblr by tagging @twaufest.

Rules

AU works only. Since this is an AU fest, all works must be AUs. They can be human-AUs, supernatural AUs, or any other type of AU. But they cannot be fully canon or just canon divergent.

Tag your works. Fics must be tagged appropriately. Please tag for major content warnings and other common warnings/triggers.

At least one of the weekly prompts must be used in your work for that week.

Late submissions are accepted while the fest is ongoing. The collection will close a week or two after the fest is over for the year. If I run this fest again next year, I’ll reopen the collection at that time.

If you are participating as a reader, please practice good fandom etiquette. If you don’t like a work or a particular ship, don’t read it or use the back button. All TW ships and all types of transformative fandom works are welcome.

while scisaac is not normally my go-to ship (its actually stackson) @theslowestpoke 's 'Kinstugi' work actually makes me go feral with their characterisation of isaac and stiles.

i also adore the title of kinstugi especially in regards to the character isaac because hes one of the only characters that i think may see the bite as a gift truly, giving him a sense of power and control when he was previously powerless in an abusive household. and because hes a beta werewolf that manifests in his golden eyes. gold is literally a sign to isaac that he has independence .

Hello to July! Today is the first day of a new TWAD round, which means we’ve got 15 new prompts from the 2024 Full Moon Round prompt card. 6. Has fandom ever made you enjoy a pairing you previously hated?

stalia!! my first time watching tw (2015) i hated them, mostly bc i was a hardcore stydia shipper LMAO but eventually like,, i calmed down. and was able to enjoy other ships. and yes also thanks to the fandom creating amazing content like edits on ig or fanart or whatever

9. Most disliked character(s)? Why?

10. Most disliked arc? Why?

kira and allison i guess?? but not because i didn't like them, but bc the writers did them dirty. season 1 allison's purpose was to be scott gf. they talked TWICE and were in love??? and just when she was becoming a great character she died. and kira...... oh my baby didn't deserve that, to be abandoned in the desert when she was such an interesting character..... she just disappeared. also did scira broke up??? bc i don't remember. or did it happen offscreen?

16. If you could change anything in the show, what would you change?

kira coming back on season 6. and yea i would make thiam canon lol (not on season 6 tho, theo was obviously into liam but liam wasn't there yet, at least not like theo. @jeffdavis give us season 7 pls)

23. Name a fic you’ve written that you’re especially fond of & explain why you like it.

It has to be my Season 5B AU, Enemies to Peace.  In many ways, it’s not my best work, but it was the first time I got engage in what I call ‘canon reengineering,’ or the ways I hoped that canon would go.  It was written before Season 6, and it actually manages to focus on Scott and the parts of Scott’s story that the canon simply chose to glide over because it wanted him to solve everyone else’s problems.  

Needless to say, we didn’t get that in Season 6.  Strangely enough, it is also a scisaac story, of which I haven’t written a lot even though I am a fan of the ship.

28. If someone were to draw a piece of fanart for your story, which story would it be and what would the picture be of?

There’s a scene in my historical AU, Never Lost, set during the French and Indian Wars, where Theo meets Scott at his homestead in the Hudson River Valley.  I managed to capture the imagery of autumn and the feel of the stories of Washington Irving, and it would lend itself to some amazing art, which is far beyond my ability to create.  

40. What do you struggle the most with in your writing?

Other than my annoying abilities to leave the suffixes off of words, to confuse  homophones, and to shift tenses in the same paragraph, I think it has to be authorial intrusion.  Out of insecurity (”Will the audience get what I’m trying to say here?”) or out of excitement (”I can’t wait for the audience to see what I’m doing here!”), my personal voice will suddenly intrude into the action of the story, like a particularly annoying director’s commentary on a DVD.  I have instances where I overwrite, where I try to explain, where I lecture.  It’s hard to stop myself from doing that when I’m in the groove.

46. If someone was to read one of your fanfics, which fic would you recommend to them and why?

My longer works are very complex, so I would probably begin with a shorter one.  I’d recommend either Not a Puppy or The Deep Breath Before the Plunge and for the same reasons.  The first is an Isaac-centric story and the second is an Erica-centric story.   They let you experience my writing style, my overall take on the show, and the goals I have when I write without having to commit to a novel-length work.  

They also deal personally with the two characters that I feel are often misrepresented in fanfiction, if they are represented at all.  Isaac is written as a soft baby in need of protection, when I don’t get that, and Erica is treated as either an appendix to Derek or as a unit with Boyd.   I wanted to give them some time to shine.  I’m working on a third one for Boyd.
