The doctors cant do anything about my lost vision. Of course they cant. It seems to be permanent at this point.
Who knew extreme stress could make you partially blind

I think it's very easy to make accessibility a joke for people. and I think many ppl don't realize just the extent of how unfunny it is until they're disabled from age, but we tune out disabled voices in our society, especially elder ones.
I guess my point is just that when u have a condition that limits your ability to read, u get used to averting your eyes. you scroll past eyestrain and have to lay down for five minutes to make sure u can still drive later. huge swaths of internet users, probably like OP does, feel that people with a vision condition need to manage their own issues as if it were a trigger warning for mental health. it's not! the person accidentally exposed to pixelated snow effects can't pick up their kid from school after having a seizure, or a migraine. the person who wants to meaningfully engage with your writing will end up avoiding your work in future if they know the formatting could trigger an episode.
and the crazy thing is, it's all preventable by just being a little bit more boring. use the basic PowerPoint transitions, link to an alternate format of your plaintext post, tag your eyestrain. when we express ourselves online it's super easy to feel pushed around by others' opinions of your work, and to push back in a strong voice that defines your journey. I get that. my hope is just that we get better at recognizing when something is a pushy entitled request, and when it's an accessibility need we can meet through very simple acts of foresight and compassion.
everyone becomes disabled one day, if you live long enough.

so yesterday i had a scintillating scotoma thingy for the first time. 0/10 do not recommend and i really hope it never happens again because damn
i didnt know what it was when it started and suddenly noticing something wrong in your vision in both of your eyes and having no idea what it is and whats going on is Not Fun. and then i also didnt get lucky with being one of the people that has it happen without any head pain because my head proceeded to feel awful and i still feel kinda weird from it
today was literally going to be my productive day where i got schoolwork done i could feel it but i got SABOTAGED

Scintillating scotomas diseases are similar to other scotomas in that they present as dots, floaters, or blind spots in the field of vision. Scotomas smear and blur the vision, but they are not bits of dirt or grit that have accidentally fallen into the eye.

Hey bibliomom, can you or your followers recommend any good readings on scintillating scotomas *without migraine*? I get them a couple times a year, but I've never had any associated pain. I've been wondering if it's worth making sure it's mentioned in my medical files...
Scintillating scotomas without pain can still be a sign of silent migraines or some other form of neurological disruption either caused by a hormonal shift, high blood pressure, or something else, so I'd be sure to talk to your medical provider about it and get it added to your file.
It's also important to know that if you have this kind of aura disruption and it is related to migraines, taking hormonal treatments that include estrogen can raise your chance of developing a stroke, so that's something to be mindful of as well. I had several neurologists drop the ball with that when it came to my healthcare.

Hello, I was wondering since your always drawing if you had any tips for getting eye strain? My eyes get strained from staring at my tablet drawing and I get sleepy and sometimes even feel sick, thanks!
yes ! ive been struggling with this for a while as well- (ive recently found out that the headaches n stuff ive been having were ocular migraines with a scotoma))
id been having migraines like that off and on for the past few weeks and i decided to look into it, and now ive set aside breaks in my computer/ screen time. I either do some traditional art or just anything else to do with my hands like crafts, or go outside for a while, generally just taking a break from my screen, and i havent had one be triggered in a while ! thats what works for me, but there can be different triggers for headaches n stuff.
figuring out things to help out with this is honestly a life saver for me- cause whenever id get headaches like this that lead to the migraines id literally just have to call it quits for the rest of the day cause i couldnt see anything properly and i got so nauseous after the headache past i couldnt do nothin but sleep, so yea ! i highly recommend taking screen breaks !

Just had two attacks of this vision impairment which is apparently called scintillating scotoma. It scared the sh*t out of me as I also had one last week which made me feel really dizzy and nauseous. I've not had it before so I'm headed for the optician tomorrow

scotoma
Scotoma: a partial loss of vision or blind spot in an otherwise normal field of vision. Nico didn't realize that when he watched Leo die, he developed one of these. Words: 9277
Leo Valdez does not keep his word.
That's not exactly accurate, but it rolls off the tongue easier than saying "Leo Valdez was six months late in delivering on his promises and in the meantime had left dozens and dozens of his people wondering if they hadn't all just had a mass delusion that he had contacted them telling them that actually 'I've been resurrected, no need to craft a funeral shroud for me."
It wasn't a mass delusion.
Nico knows it has happened, because he keeps the proof on his person. A letter Leo sent them a few weeks after he and Festus had disappeared in that godsdamned golden blaze of a sky.
It in no way reflected Leo's talkative nature.
No explanation for why he lied to his friends, no hint about where he was and what he was doing that could have taken six months. No, "I'm sorry for hurting slash scaring slash devastating you". No "Please forgive me for making you feel my death".
Like a fucking hang nail that got caught on everything and tore and bled and just wouldn't come off to heal.

Being an M.E. with dyslexia is great.
"Can you explain this to me? How is this even possible!?"
Sees that I wrote "scatoma¹ in the eye" instead of "scotoma² in the eye"
"Oh no, I fucked up"
¹A type of tumor...not near the eye...at all, Google at your own discretion
²A blindspot in your vision

this may in fact be a migraine but my primary migraine symptom is rarely headache so idk. I always rely on an aura to tell me whether or not it's a migraine, except I woke up with this thing so the aura would've happened in my sleep, but I have literally had scintillating scotomas in my dreams that translated into real migraines upon awakening, BUT lately I've stopped having scotomas as my telltale aura and instead get sudden and intense bouts of vertigo. so I don't know. what I do know is last night I had a zelda-themed nightmare where this fucking big scary thing was chasing me and I had a little green stamina wheel
