Green Turtle (Chelonia mydas) 🐢

Honestly throughout my scuba diving journey, I haven't seen green turtles while diving, only hawksbill until my most recent dive trip. I got to see a total of 3 green turtles underwater and it was cool experience:) A bonus nesting mother out of water as well. 4 green turtles on the trip:) Omnivorous when they are juveniles and move more into a herbivorous diet of seagrass and algae as adults.

oh my god YES absolutely!!!

my favorite fish are frogfish! (although wobbegong sharks come a close second.) these guys look so angry all the time. it's hilarious.

frogfish are like ocean ninjas. their pectoral fins are modified so they can do a shuffly little "walk" along the ocean floor, and they have a little dangling lure they use to attract prey.

the coolest thing, though, is that their bite is so fast that even slo-mo can't capture it: they can expand their mouths to 12 times its normal volume in 1/6000th of a second. it's the fastest bite in the animal kingdom! here's a really good video of them.

my favorite bird is a little (LOT) harder to decide, but i'm a really big fan of hummingbirds.

my favorite hummingbird fact is that their tongues don't actually work like straws! their tongue is made of two tubes and is forked, sort of like there's two feathers coming out of the tip. the tubes expand and roll up, sort of like a pump. when their tongue sticks out, the "split ends" absorb nectar, and when their tongue is pulled back into their beaks, it's squashed and the nectar is squeezed out!

also hummingbird tongues are so long they wrap around their brain.

My first night dive at Juara Tioman area at the JSA house reef 'Aquarium' :) back in May. I definitely have a hard time IDing squids 🐙, probably a species of reef squid from genus Sepioteuthis. If you look closely, the little black pigment spots are chromatophores that aid in their camouflage. Chromatophores are skin color cells that can expand or retract to show different levels of color, reef squids and many other cephalopods can change their colors and patterns extremely rapidly.

Without question one of the best experiences in life is when you connect this incredible new friends, definitely of kindred spirits! A massive gorgeous endangered Great Hammerhead coming within inches of my camera lens! The moment she emerged out of the deep blue, I lost my breath! And then to have her circle around to get a closer look at me was absolutely surreal! With so few of these magnificent creatures left in our oceans, it was truly special to be able to share the open water with her. She was so curious and non threatening. New series of pictures of my dives in Oman. These pictures were taken with my Nikon Coolpix AW130 during a dive with Extra Divers Qantab during my stay at the amazing 5-star Shangri-La Al Husn Resort & Spa in Muscat. These pictures show a very nice white and black spotted moray eel. The dive site’s name is Mermaide. Diving conditions were quite good, in warm water. The maximum depth during this dive was 7.6 m with a good visibility and 29 degrees water temperature.
