I think I know why Viva was added as a character outside of plot reasons for many-ia reasons but 2 stick out more importantly to me Camila Cabello is the voice actor for Viva, prior to starting her solo career she was in a girl group called Fifth Harmony. Now do what you want and call me a skeptic but one of their big starts was covering Justin Timberlake's song "Mirrors" in a record of cover artists. This helped propel their careers, and as we all know, justin was in *NSYNC so like... cmon, how could she not. In TBT there is a strong references to boy bands specifically those around the 90's and early 2000's and while there are a lot of girl groups that could have also been mentioned this movie wanted to focus on Branch. But featuring a ex- girl group member does help advance this theme of single gender bands. The other reason, is because this movie focuses on Branch and his brothers. It is very male heavy, sure it's broken up with V&V but during their songs the only person to break up the male voice monotony was Poppy. And to draw a paraell to one of my other hyperfixations Newsies, they made Kathrine a whole new character just to provide contrast to the VERY VERY male heavy cast. She was supposed to give us a diffrent voice to hear outside of all the male voices providing a harmony that diverted you attention and enhanced the preformance. AND THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT VIVA DOES! During Better Place you hear Viva singing Backup along with Poppy, but whenever you hear Camila sing your thoughts are immedityly pulled towards it to contextualize what you heard. and on relistens this only adds and enhances, but it makes the whole song better for it. They made Poppy purposely quieter as Anna, no offense to her, has a very prominent voice that draws itself to you, and the reason why Poppy couldn't be singing Viva's part is because

Poppy is supposed to be singing with Branch, they are a family and its so important that they sing on time with eachother and 2. Poppy singing Viva's part just isn't emotionally reasonable on a story stand part either, Viva is new, we've had backstory on her but not as much as the other brothers whose prioity is to be singing the perfect family harmony. Viva is still an outcast to the audience, we don't quite under stand her and we wont until after the movie and after some thought.

You physically can't put Poppy in Viva's role so they had to make a new one, they couldn't make it another boy as that would add to the monotiny, so a female, and it must be a singer with a distinct enough voice to Anna that it wouldn't get confusing. So probably after alot of searching they landed on Camila and the rest is histroy

Why I was banned from r/curatedtumblr: a very belated explanation/apology post

Before migrating here from Reddit, I used to be a regular participant in r/tumblr as a commenter, then r/curatedtumblr when r/tumblr became unusably bloated with repost bots, and the useless mods did nothing because Reddit's leadership system is dumb and broken. Hence the name, curated tumblr; an r/tumblr replacement that was actually moderated. All of the regulars, including me, migrated there, and now r/tumblr is like 90% karma-farming bots endlessly upvoting each other, presumably so the accounts can later be sold for advertising or political astroturfing purposes. Happens all the time.

I explain this because it's important to understand that a) I was a part of the community for quite a while, and b) r/curatedtumblr was heavily moderated, so as to avoid the mistakes of its predecessor. Fine and dandy.

I was a high schooler at the time, terminally online and working a shitty fast food job to save up for the PC I'm typing this on. Thus, I'd spend the days endlessly interacting with the people on r/curatedtumblr, and the evenings working at a Taco Bell, unable to use my phone until breaktime.

One day, I forget the exact context, but the subject of r/FDS came up, which for those of you who are unaware is a hive of femcels. Named as an acronym for Female Dating Strategy, the sub was infamously sexist towards men, going on about things like "high/low value males" and how men below 6' were inhuman scum and basically doing everything incels do but with the gender roles flipped. And just like incels, everyone there was unaware the real reason The sub featured a nauseating glittery pink colour scheme a la Claire's, and everybody there talked like a popular high school girl in a Nickelodeon movie, all "yaaaaaass queen" "you go girl!" and shit like that.

So this sub comes up, and if memory serves we were shitting on it, or at least I was? Again, the context has been lost to memory, and since the sitewide search tools you used to be able to use to find multiple year old comments have all kicked the bucket, and the Reddit UI for finding old content is stupid and requires you to trudge through the entire histroy of a user chronologically until you find what you're looking for with no option to jump to the desired time period, I'm probably never going to be able to find it. I was making fun of the kind of shit they said on that sub, and I said something like "yass kween dump his low-value ass he only makes 800k a year ur worth more gurl," and then went to work.

Now, I didn't know it at the time, but as I worked, somebody saw the comment and thought I was mocking AAVE. They accused me of being a "4 Chan Nazi." Things kind of snowballed from there. Now, and this is embarassing and I've been hesitant to admit to it, but I'm here to explain and apologize, so:

when I was in high school, I did not know what AAVE meant.

I took offense to being accused of being a Nazi, and I forget what my reply was, but it was snarky towards the accuser, which made me look like a POS. Since I did not know what AAVE was, I did not refute the claim that I was making fun of it, and this made me look really, really bad to anybody who did.

I was then banned for this alleged racism. I looked up what AAVE was, realized I totally did look like a racist in that situation, but rather than fight the allegations, me, being an anxious teenager, instead eternally procrastinated on doing so, afraid of further anger directed at me.

It was a dumb choice to make, because now I'm afraid anybody on here from r/curatedtumblr who remembers those days might still think of me as "that guy who turned racist out of nowhere and then ran off." It's been eating at me for years, so I've decided it's time to rip the bandaid off and finally clear the air. I should have done this a very long time ago.

tl;dr, I made a string of bad decisions that made me look like a racist piece of shit. I could have easily undid this by immediately explaining the situation, but being an anxious, then-internet-inexperienced kid at the time, the sudden social rejection scared me, and I hid from the problem.

I'm sorry. It was a bad move. I never intended to mock AAVE, nor appear as if I was doing so. It's a valid English dialect, it's culturally important, and I respect it and those who speak in it. I apologize to anybody I may have offended by accidentally appearing to imply otherwise.

I hope anybody from those days who still remembers me can find it in their hearts to forgive me. Or they can choose not to, as is their right. I'm not here to beg for forgiveness, I'm here to finally explain things and put them to rest. This is what happened, I am sorry, and I hope you also see it as a poorly-handled misunderstanding and nothing more. I just needed to finally move on from this.

For a very VERY long time i feel like i was led to believe that there was basically no queer representation in media before like...the year 2000 and anything that existed before that was stereotypes, laced with homophobia, or bad rep and what ive come to find out recently is that there actually is good, honest, enjoyable queer media from the past that i 1) hadnt sought out before 2) NEVER was told about or saw talked about in the queer spaces ive inhabited (including this website and other socials). Somehow in all those queer history talks and posts, i had never heard about any of these movies that im finding out about now, as a 23 year old. And maybe thats on me for not looking very hard, but i feel like i never ever was given movie recommendations for historic queer films. All i ever saw were movies that are Gay Culture (like John Waters, Paris is Burning, Rocky Horror, those type of things).

It always felt like, whenever a new Queer movie came out it was a huge deal because i had let myself believe that it had Never Been Done Before when in reality good queer media has existed for decades and isnt totally inaccessible.

Im not saying we dont need more representation, but i am encouraging you to look at movies made in other decades as part of your searching and learning about queer histroy. Queer and LGBT+ history through film isnt just about the movies gay people like and consider Part of The Culture.

H - What is your favorite source text for fandom stuff (e.g., tv shows, movies, books, anime, Western animation, etc.) Most of my fandom source texts are video games. Not sure why, but I don’t get quite as invested in films or TV shows the way I do with video games. And sometimes it happens with books, but only really rarely. I’m not sure why. I mean with books and shows, sometimes I’ve thought about writing things, but I usually don’t end up going through with it. I think because at that point I’m messing with only someone else’s characters and it is hard for me to get invested fully into work that is only the creation of another.

With video games, I get to participate in the world in a manner of speaking. There is an interactivity and engagement inherent to video games that creates a different focus and a buy-in that is not present in other sources, at least for me. I get to create a character and fit them into this world and watch them move through it--and sure they fall along a certain line according to the developers’ plans, but I do get to have a hand in it. It’s the reason I’m a sucker for RPG games.

N - Name three things you wish you saw more or in your main fandom (or a fandom of choice) I’ll be honest, I’m not really sure what I’d say for any of my fandoms. But I do kind of sit at the edge of my fandoms, all of them. I’m not in the middle of anything in any of them, and I’m perfectly content there because I’m moderate participant at best.

1. I’d really like to see the Saints Row fandom revive itself. It used to be quite a lively and welcoming location. It seems that most of those that remain are the gatekeepers.

2. I’d like to see more respect and inclusion for Faith Seed. There is a group of people in that fandom that like to treat her like she is not part of the family. Despite this tendency in some corners of the Far Cry 5 fandom, most of the people I’m surrounded by also hold that Faith is a valid member of the family who should be included in discussions and representations of the Seed siblings.

3. This question would be so very much easier if I was a more active participant in my fandoms. Overall, I wish more of us, in all my fandoms, were still active on tumblr. A lot of people migrated away. Perhaps if I were more active in other places, I would still be able to reach out to them. Though I know many of them are on Discord, it’s just not a medium that works for my mind. Plus, I’ve kind of been cut off from things so long that I still struggle with maintaining connections with people. It’s something I’m particularly bad at.

Z - Just ramble about something fan-related, go go go (prompts optional but encouraged) Okay, so this is more difficult than I anticipated.

I’m both fearing and excited about the Legendary version of Mass Effect releasing in May. I really am looking forward to the graphical update and the game play cleanup. Though I really don’t know that I want to see them adjust the Mako controls, I loved that sketchy thing and the fact that if you tried hard enough you could climb over anything. I loved the Mako in all it’s flaws and fabulousness.

I’m also kind of concerned about the possibility of them altering the story or the characters in some way.

There is a tendency nowadays for fan opinions to be able to alter plans, story, and characters in media. And I really don’t want them to change the franchise in order to meet some loud corner of the fandom. I loved the game as it was, flaws and all. I really fear that they might institute some odd change to suit some rabid corner of the internet that will unravel the fabric of something I’ve loved for so long.

Though in the same vein, I’d love to see some changes here and there. Perhaps the ability to romance Ashley as fShepard, or Kaidan in the ME 1 timeline as mShep. I don’t know. But then again. If I rally for those sorts of changes, then I open myself up to the other potential changes.

S - Show us an example of your personal headcanon (prompts optional but encouraged) Hmm. I really enjoy the templar’s lore in Dragon Age, but I wanted to see where else I might be able to take it. I thought, what if there was some magic in templars that allowed them to wield lyrium effectively. And I started doing some reading with old chivalric knights and ideas about knighthood and chivalry in histroy and literature and I wanted to bring that kind of sense into the templars lore, perhaps even a forgotten or overlooked bit of lore for them. And I started playing around with the idea of Templars containing or controlling their own magical ability that is only enhanced by the lyrium. And this kind of happened.

I put it under a cut because it is incredibly long.

Malcolm found his daughter sitting in the grass at the back fence. She had been crying and he was disturbed by the idea that his wife's concern may have been more warranted than he'd given it credit for. He sat next to her and leaned against the fence. "Tell me," he said trying to keep his voice even.

"I don't even know," she said weakly.

Malcolm slid his arm around her shoulders. "Did… did he?" He could barely say it let alone think it.

She shook her head. "No, Father," Aderyn said surprised that he could think that. "I really don't know how to explain it." She wasn't sure how to talk about this with her father. But he was the only person who might be able to help her. She explained some things, though not others. She left out the details about how Cullen had ended up shirtless. "I saw a glow, it was strange. There was no warmth either, which is why I can't figure out how I burned him. I can always feel the glow of fire," she said as she stared at the grass running the event through her head.

"It was a burn?"

"Well, not really. That's what it looked like. And Cullen said something," she said looking up at her father hopefully. "That there was nothing discernable."

"You should have brought him with you."

"What did I do to him?" she asked, clearly concerned. "And how can I control something when I don't know what it is?"

"Did he return to the Chantry?"

She shook her head and shrugged. "I don't know." He looked at her for a moment. "I was scared. No, appalled. I hid. I  …"

"I'm sorry I can't assuage your fears. I'll see him as soon as I can. See if there is anything I can do," Malcolm said, hoping to reassure her some. He stood and offered her his hand.

"Aderyn!" They both turned to see him running up the path. He hopped over the fence and stopped when he saw her father's face. "Malcolm, pardon me."

"No need." Malcolm ushered them both inside and quickly into his small study. If what his daughter said was true he had to be objective, at least until he found out what had happened. He could be an upset father after he knew what had happened. Aderyn started to leave, but Malcolm told her he would need her assistance.

"Show me," Malcolm said as his fingers moved across the spines of books on a shelf. When he turned and saw the mark he dropped the books he'd pulled off the shelf. He glanced at the templar then looked at his daughter for a long moment. He clinched his jaw and gathered the books he dropped. The mage set the books on the table and touched the distinctive mark in the center of the young man's chest. "Did it burn?"

Cullen shook his head. "I didn't feel anything." He looked over at the unnerved woman in the corner. "Aderyn saw a glow. I can't tell anything about it, it's like there's no trace of magic to it."

Within the hour Malcolm was more concerned about what had occurred than that his daughter had been in a position to leave such a mark on the young man. He could find nothing in his research. The three of them had sat there for several hours as Malcolm searched through his books with the help of his daughter. When her father left the room in search of a rare volume he kept in a chest in his bedroom, Aderyn handed Cullen his shirt back and he stood and slipped it on again.

"I'm sorry," he whispered standing behind her. She leaned back against his chest and he set his hand on her hip.

"You have nothing to apologize for," she replied replacing her father's books on the shelves.

"It doesn't matter." "How can you say that?" she asked glancing up at him over her shoulder. She shelved another volume. "You can't hide what I've done."

"Actually, I can. Quite easily I must add. I'm not one for running around shirtless."

Aderyn would beg to differ, she'd seen the sight several times, but she couldn't make light of the situation she was in. She was too scared for him, for herself, but most of all, for her family. She turned around and leaned against the bookcase. "How can you not be concerned?"

He set his hands on the bookcase on either side of her shoulders and gazed down into her eyes. "You are more than concerned enough for both of us." She glared at him a moment. "I'll tell you a secret." He leaned toward her. "I don't think it's the result of magic."

"What then?" Her look changed dramatically.

"I think it's something else. More potent than magic." He leaned toward her, but she ducked under his arm as the door opened.

"Smart boy." Malcolm closed the door behind himself, completely this time. "It's not something that can be performed by a mage." He looked at his daughter who seemed most surprised by the news; she sat down slowly. "As odd as this statement is. It's templar magic." Cullen laughed, but it was cut short by the look on Malcolm's face and a glance at the seal on the cover of the book. "It's a promise. Sealed by a touch."

Cullen looked at him curiously. Malcolm touched the book then looked back to the templar. "If this is correct, Aderyn give me your hand." She reached out to her father and he turned her right hand over to look at it. He nodded and loosed her hand. Aderyn touched her palm then looked up at Cullen, it was completely smooth. She showed the discovery to the templar. He ran his fingertips across her palm.

"I've never heard of anything like this," Cullen said marvelling at the complete lack of any texture on her palm.

"It is rare," Malcolm said. "I didn't think it could be the cause, truthfully I always thought it was little more than another part of templar legend, part of the myth." Both of them looked over at him carefully.  He sat down and closed the book. "An old friend claimed he was marked by his wife in such a way, ... on their wedding night," he added carefully. "It's determined by overwhelming trust and connection to another."

2020 Oscar (P)review: RICHARD JEWELL

“I respect authority.”

What it’s about: After a seecurity guard discovers and essentially thwarts a terrorist attack at the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics, the Georgian soon finds his profile swung from hero to suspect as the FBI and media searches for answers.

Why you should watch it: It’s wonderfully acted and a deeply engaging look at a forgotten story of modern American histroy. Hauser charmingly holds his own again two Oscar winners in his sweetly dopey performance.

Why you might not like it: There’s a cartoonishly fictional representation of journalism that undercuts the film’s premise. Olivia Wilde channels the ghost of Gale Weathers to an unforgivable degree, and the script shoots itself in the foot with unnecessary embellishments in an otherwise  fascinating story of the media and governments bungled case.

Starring: Paul Walter Hauser, Sam Rockwell, Kathy Bates Runtime: 2 hours 11 minutes

The Dark Boys pt. 2

First, there’s Cole. Shortly after he fled from Syn Corps, he was captured and brought back to get shut down. That didn’t sit well with Cole. As they started deleting his programming, he linked with the mainframe of the building in one final attempt to save himself. It worked. Since it was a “Smart” building and very high tech, all Cole had to do was flip one little switch in the coding of the building’s security system and the entire building went on lockdown. When the lockdown protocol was put into effect, the building essentially became a fortress. Reinforced steel covered every inch of window, door, and vent. Covering any and all entrances, exits… and air supply. Cole disappeared after that, hiding in the vents and waiting patiently until the last person had died from lack of oxygen. Then, after that? He set his sights on the world that had allowed such a place to exist. He mass-produced more androids like him now that he had control of Syn, and the often joked about “robot uprising” was now finally happening. Cole holds his darkness in his core, where if he was human… a heart would be.

Then, we have Dimitri. Dimitri left the Winter Court in hopes to participate in the Wild Hunt. But, when he was denied, he got angry. Unseelie weren’t allowed in the Wild Hunt, so he would make his own. And the prey wouldn’t be elk. No, this would take place in the Human Realm. With humans. He and a small following of Unseelie traveled to the Human realm and spread out, kidnapping warriors such as martial arts masters and specialists from various militaries from all over the world and bringing them to a private island, where they were hunted one by one until only one remained. The survivor would be released after getting money that they had stolen from banks all over and laundered. Dimitri keeps his darkess beneath his feet, where every step in calculated and muffled, to ensure that his prey doesn’t hear him coming.

Next is Mikael. After Mikael found a way to break his curse of being trapped in the lamp as a Djinn, he went back to find his wife and children all dead by the very same coven that trapped him. Burned at the stake, of all things. The grief twisted his very soul into something… dark. His magick reacted by burning down the house that they died in, and he went on a rampage. The fire spread to every corner of the town, completely razing it to the ground. After that, Mikael went in search of the enemy coven to enact his revenge. And enact it… he did. He hunted each and every witch down, trapping them in a building during one of their sabbats and burning it down. He ran off and spent years searching for a way to resurrect his family. When his leads turned up dead ends on all fronts, his soul twisted even more until it snapped. He was about to end it all when he decided to stop in the nearest bar, which happened to be a gay bar, to drown his sorrows one last time. There, he saw a young man that looked like he could be his youngest son’s twin, dancing to some song that was playing and just looking like the picture of innocence. That made him come up with another idea. If he couldn’t bring his family back, he could replace them. He kidnapped the poor boy, locking him in his basement and using all manner of Dark magick to invade his mind and erase his identity. he replaced it with that of his youngest, and then searched for two more dopplegangers to replace his other two sons. Mikael keeps his darkness right at his fingertips, where he’s able to rewrite histroy for his prisoners. I mean, sons.

Next is Raziel. No one expected Raziel, of all angels, to fall. He was the Keeper of Secrets. But, the truth was, he didn’t fall. He was essentially the new Lucifer. Except, Raziel wasn’t thrown out for defying God. He was thrown out for knowing too much. As Guardian of Heaven’s library, Raziel was the only Archangel to ever hear God’s true name, and when God found out that Raziel knew, He decided that the Archangel was a threat and cast him out, not expecting him to survive. Raziel survived, and more. He remembered. He decided to ally himself with Lucifer and defy God again, using all the Secrets that he knew, to incite another War.
