As a someone who surfs in Florida I’ve watched large sharks swim past my board. I’ve seen them explode out of the water and catch a fish where I was just wading. I’ve literally looked in the face of a wave and a small black tip was within arms length of kids wading in the water and they never even knew it. I’ve had what I consider a “healthy fear” borderline fascination of sharks my whole life but as I’ve grown up I’ve realized it’s completely irrational. I’ve been waiting to watch this for months. As sad and just absolutely depressing as it is to watch humans exploit a species that has survived 5 major extinctions, it is more important to understand something like this before we decimate our oceans. Contrary to popular belief most of our oxygen comes from the ocean. The more unhealthy the ocean, the more unhealthy the planet. You’d be a fool not to see that we are at a tipping point. As the human population increases, we lose hundreds of thousands of species around the globe. This was the most evident to me a few years back when @craigsuede and I tried to free dive with sharks in #Bali and #gillitrawangan it’s impossible to find them but you’re guaranteed to find one thing trash. Beer bottles, cups, styrofoam, plastic bags... in every beautiful place we explored. I’m posting about this as someone who intends to be a father within the next couple of years and a contributor to not just humanity but this planet. Our generations will decide the fate of many species on this planet including our own. I think like life on this earth it starts with the oceans and saving our apex predators. Rob says in the documentary that he started with anger towards humans for doing this to the oceans but it turned into optimism after seeing what people can do. I agree. It's a Red Cove and I post this from @seashepherdsscs LISTEN UP FROM⬇ @seashepherdsscs Global __________________ Every year from September 1st to March 1st, thousands of dolphins are viciously herded into a hidden cove in Taiji, Japan, by local hunters who have the sole purpose of kidnapping some and murdering the rest. This bloody massacre is conducted with the backing of the Japanese government. The dolphins that are not brutally killed, are permanently traumatized after being forced to witness the horror of their family members being slaughtered. This is then followed by a horrifying existence of living in a tiny 10 X10 enclosure and being forced to beg and learn tricks, just to receive food. Once they have properly “conformed” to the ritual of performing for a meal, they are ready to be sold into a life of slavery to the highest bidder from marine parks around the world. The dolphins endure long rides in the back of trucks and on airlines, sometimes for a total of 30-40 hours. If they miraculously survive this trip, when they arrive to their new “home” they are forced into equally small, sometimes smaller pens, and must live and compete with dolphins from other pods. The enslaved dolphins are now required to perform in shows multiple times per day, and in between shows, they are made to “play” in the pools with humans, who want entertainment. These dolphins are force fed pills that make them more subdued, to keep them from lashing out at humans and this is followed immediately by “uppers”, so they will still have the energy to perform.  This is only a small glimpse into the dreadful and cruel existence that an enslaved dolphin must now endure.  If you buy a ticket to a marine park, or participate in a “swim-with-dolphins” program, remember that you are directly contributing to the Taiji dolphin drive, as well as the miserable life that these intelligent and sentient beings are now forced to live. #seashepherd #taiji #dolphin #slaughter #captivity #coveguardians
