Snow in Seattle is rare but beautiful❄️. It’s cold, but compared to other cities, we’re lucky. Late today, I took a short walk🚶‍♀️. The snow is gone though there were still small deposits on the north sides of houses. There are NO FLOWERS in sight🚫! I hoped to find some to post today, but winter still has a grip🥶. The best treat was seeing Mt Rainier out in all its glory🏔️. A few days ago, I saw an encouraging story about one of my favorite subjects: Instagram.  Petapixel, a photo blog📷, began, “A new report claims that Instagram Reels views are plummeting while photos are finally performing better on the social media platform. 📰” They quoted Adweek, a US advertising trade publication, which said Reels views are falling as IG corrects its emphasis on videos🎬. Social strategists have reported Reels as earning fewer views, where the performance of photos has improved🙂. (feed-post engagement had decreased by 44%. ) Maybe you’ve noticed fewer Reels in your feed 🎞️ or better performance of your photos🤳? Or perhaps your Reels’ views have been underwhelming 😢?  IG’s change of focus impacts marketers who prepared budgets to create video content in 2023 💰. The changing priorities have messed with many of us, but have also impacted branding agencies, undermining their ability to develop effective strategies for their clients 📊.  At least IG applies pain evenly as both users & advertisers have been penalized by poor leadership 🤕.  Have you ever started a diet, & quit, then wondered 8 months later what would have happened if you’d stuck with it 🤔? IG must have asked itself why it spent so much time & energy to catch up to TikTok 😟. The push was a failure ❌. If it stayed true to its focus, everyone would understand what to expect here 👌. Photographers who fled, would likely still be here; users would’ve felt less angst about posting Reels; & new users would understand photo imagery is Instagram’s strength 🏋️‍♀️. Happy Valentine’s Day weekend! 💝 Everyone has been posting snow photos for months, ❄️but Seattle is just finally getting some of the white stuff. Significant snow here can be 3” (7.62cm)—just enough to cause fender benders. 🚗 Last week I asked if you’d heard of Clubhouse, a disappearing audio app. 🎤 My buddy @bridgetmwillard sent me an invitation and I joined. 🎟️ I’ve mostly “lurked,” 🦸‍♀️which is a good thing to do at first. There are many “rooms” of various sizes and topics. Tonight I browsed the list and found “Ask me anything,” and it featured one of my heroes, @guykawasaki. 🏆 I had a chance to ask him a couple of questions 🙋and it was thrilling. No joke. Recording isn’t allowed. 📻 You don’t have the right to record unless you’ve obtained the speaker’s permission. In my case, he said it was OK! 👌 Success on platforms like TikTok & IG can influenced by the way you look, 💅but Clubhouse is more about spontaneity & articulating your thoughts. 💬💭🗯️ Personality & depth of knowledge have a lot of currency. 💵You’re unseen, 😎so it’s easy to raise your hand and say something if you’re inclined. I quickly abandoned Snapchat, and never got into TikTok. With the proliferation of platforms and limited “bandwidth,” it’s not impossible to do justice to every channel. 📲 I don’t think I’ll be an active participant on Clubhouse, but having a small encounter was extremely cool. 👍 If you like podcasts, 🎧 Clubhouse offers opportunities to hear experts talk unscripted and unedited, or “#nofilter.” I see the mad scramble for amassing followers. My friend [pictured here] and Seattle need to be rescued from this blizzard! Never done a comic before, so I str8 coppied the "this is fine" meme comic [by KC Green] which is a classic. I was not only inspired by Seattle's frozen state it's currently in, but also by my friend who has more willpower than I can ever imagine.
