Sandy: "Hurting others isn't a measure of one's strength—took me a really long time to realize that. As long as I'm doing something to help out a friend, I don't mind what it is! I just want to be there for 'em when they need me. Because at the end of the day, helping my friends is more important than anything else in the world!"
(2x08 To Catch a Leaf)
-
Macaque: "She's completely out of control! If there's a time to go, it's now."
MK: "NO! Mei is my best friend, I'd never abandon her when she needs me! We're heroes, it's what we do!"
(3x10 The Samadhi Fire)
-
Azure Lion: "I thought I arrived in time to contain the curse, but, based off of your expressions I would hazard a guess that Sun Wukong has already been consumed, along with your friends."
MK: "But it's fine right!? We'll just pop this bad boy open and get them back!"
Azure Lion: "It's too late to save them, we can't risk unleashing the curse into the world!"
MK: "You don't know, we'd risk it for sure! I won't abandon them when they need us."
(4x02 New Adventures)
-
Yellowtusk: "I know full well what will happen should Azure fail, but- but he is my brother. I owe him my life."
Sandy: "We get it! I'd do anything to help my friends, but at the cost of the world?"
Pigsy: "I'm sorry pal, but NOTHING is worth that price!"
(4x13 Rip and Tear)
-
Being there for your friends when they need you, but at the cost of the world.

Tonight's dose of pain is brought to you by the fact that JJ Maybank is the most physically affectionate, ride or die Pogue but he cannot handle someone telling him they genuinely care about him without falling apart.
We've all seen the way his face crumples in 3x04, when he's spiraling and Kie's trying to get through to him and she says "I do care!" and just for a moment, the dam breaks. His pain is right at the surface but it's more than that; it's the part of him that wants so desperately to believe her. And before it gets swallowed back up by his own self-sabotage, he lets himself want it for a single second. Lets himself picture a world where Kiara Carrera could mean that despite everything he believes about himself.
You wanna know where else we see that same look? When he's saying goodbye to Luke in 2x08. And JJ's so aware of what Luke's put him through but that's still his DAD. He helps Luke steal a boat, takes the pill bottles because he's hoping Luke can actually start over like he's claiming, gives the man who abused him the literal last $20 in his wallet. He tries so hard to keep the man at arms length but Luke tells JJ he has a good heart and the man is being sincere for once in his fucking life and JJ just breaks, right before he lets Luke pull him in. Because he wants to believe that his father actually does love him. Like there's a part of JJ where that's all he's ever wanted. And he can't let himself believe it because it'll hurt worse the next time Luke proves him right.
JJ, who thinks that being a jail-bound, good for nothing salt-lifer is his birthright, cannot reconcile the fact that Kie would care for him when everything about his life has reinforced the fact that he's not worth it. And he tries to push her away, unable to accept a good thing when it's staring him right in the face.
And she won't let him.
