I want to start basic witchcraft but I literally have no clue where to start, and tips?

Hey, babe! Sorry for taking so long on this reply -- between the COVID-19 panic and some other personal stuff, I haven’t been online since last week.

I actually have a new series on my YouTube channel called Baby Witch Bootcamp, which is a series of short “Witchcraft 101″ type videos. There are currently two episodes out, which you can find here. The third episode will be coming soon! 

Like I mention in those videos, I think meditation is really the best place to start for someone who wants to get into witchcraft. Developing a daily meditation practice will help you to develop the mental and spiritual skills that you need to be a successful witch, along with a load of other proven health benefits. Check out my longer video explaining the benefits of meditation here.

Once you’ve got a handle on meditation and grounding (a specific type of meditation that helps connect you to the earth), the next logical step would be to start learning about the Law of Attraction. The LoA is essentially a psychological/metaphysical explanation for why magic works. Working with the LoA will help you learn to align with your desires, and will help you ease into the idea that you create your own reality.

I’m planning a video on the Law of Attraction soon, but in the meantime here’s a playlist with some of my favorite videos from other people about this topic. There’s a lot of different perspectives on that playlist -- some that are stereotypically witchy, some that are more religious, and some that approach it from a more psychological/self-help angle. Watching the whole playlist can give you a good idea of the many different ways to work with the LoA.

If you want a book about the Law of Attraction, I recommend Practical Law of Attraction by Victoria Gallagher. While not perfect, it’s the best introductory book I’ve found on the subject. 

Once you’ve got your daily meditation practice and your Law of Attraction practice established, you’re ready to dive into spellwork. For this I would recommend two books:

First, read Green Witchcraft by Paige Vanderbeck -- this is a really great non-religious introduction to nature-based witchcraft and contains a lot of info on herb and crystal correspondences, so it’s a great reference for new witches. Once you’ve read that, I recommend Light Magic for Dark Times by Lisa Marie Basile -- this is a self care-focused grimoire with lots of simple spells that are presented in a very accessible way. Self-healing and self-care are big parts of my practice, so I reference Basile’s book a lot.
