The World Needs More Love

There are many in the world who are dying for a piece of bread but there are many more dying for a little love. How true, and how sad and where Mother Teresa talks about spirituality, it is lacking in the world. But all it would take is a change in perception, to think about others, how we can help the less fortunate. How we can give back.

Where the world is divided, now we are seeing huge chasms open, in all aspects of societies; we have all been taken out of our comfort zones, but we need to find our way back. And with lifting restrictions, many hundreds of thousands of people who are high risk, and vulnerable have been left, stuck in their homes. They are uncared for in our communities.

The media have talked about us being opinionated and disapproving, also divided on many aspects of the pandemic. Hundreds of thousands are now stuck in their home. My home is my confinement. In the pandemic where we should be working together, in our everyday, many of us have also become invisible and distant.

But it is something we should be thinking about and changing. The more enlightened and less earthly we are, the more love we have to give, the more we can change lives. Mother Teresa and Princess Diana, throughout their lives always sought to give back, to help those less advantaged, even though they both dealt with mental and emotional trauma.

We may not all be a Mother Teresa or a Princess Diana, but life is about giving back, it’s why we’re here, take the ego out and you’ll see that. It’s small steps, and we have to want to change.

In the early months of the pandemic we saw doctors and nurses coming together to save lives, in many cases many having lost their own. Another act of service and an act of love. Now for the world’s survival, we need to give some of that love back.

The Motive of Love | Galatians 5:14

What drives your action? Your love or Christ's love?

Today, our call-out goes to Craig Rogers from Long Island, NY. Thanks for your encouragement!

For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” — Galatians 5:14

This is an interesting line from Paul because, throughout this letter, he has been referring to the law and the works of the law negatively. But here, he makes an abrupt turn. He encourages obedience to the law summed up in a single command. So why this change?

He does this only because he views the law through the life of Jesus, who fulfilled it. In Jesus's fulfillment of the entire law, we are freed to love. In loving others, we embody Jesus's love because his love sustains and empowers us to love ourselves and others rightly.

Returning to the previous text, this all hinges on what motivates our love. Is our love motivated by selfish intent or selfless intent? Do we love our neighbor with our selfish love, or do we love our neighbor with his selfless love? There is a vast difference between these two motives.

This is the motivational tightrope we walk every day, and the hope is that all our motivation is driven to love others perfectly from his perfect love working through us. So go, love people today. But love them differently. Look at them and love them by his love, not your love. Love them selflessly, not selfishly. Love them like Jesus loved them, and I pray all your actions will reflect more of him and less of yourself.

Think about a challenging relationship in your life. How might intentionally choosing to love that person with Christ's love instead of your own impact the dynamics of the relationship? What steps can you take to embody Christ's love more fully in that relationship?

PRAY THIS: Lord, help me to love others with the same selfless love that You have shown me, guiding my actions to reflect Your heart for humanity. May Your love flow through me, transforming my motives and empowering me to love others as You have loved me. Amen.

22-year-old Army automated logistics specialist, #GlendonOakley , assigned at Fort Bliss, Texas, had been shopping at a sporting goods store inside the Cielo Vista Mall in El Paso when a young child burst into the store shouting about an active shooter at the nearby Walmart. "The guy at the register and I sort of looked at each other," Oakley told Task & Purpose in a phone interview on Saturday. "He's a little kid ... are you going to believe him?" When Oakley exited the store minutes later and headed to the neighboring Footlocker, he finally heard the sound of gunfire echoing across the mall. He immediately pulled the Glock 9mm he occaisionally carries under Texas's concealed carry laws. While he had just returned from an incident-free deployment to Kuwait, this was not his first firefight. "That's what you do," he told Task & Purpose. "You pull your gun, you find cover, and you figure out what to do next." A group of a dozen children clustered in one of the mall's open play areas, screaming for their parents. Oakley says he tried to get fleeing bystanders to help, but none would stop. "I didn't even think. I just grabbed as many kids as I could and ran five stores down to the exit," he said. "I heard four kids died," he said, his voice softening. "I wish I could have gotten more kids out of there. I wish those guys who ran would have stayed ... I just think, what if that was my child? How would I want some other man to react?"
