I always make him pick up the Amulet. Behind Shadowheart he's got one of the highest Wisdom stats of all of the companions. He'll be fine, right? Plus love seeing him laugh and smile more.
*He's actually a Cleric of Corellon Larethian in my game since Astarion still wants to dabble in necromancy. I'm not sure Lathander would approve of a vampire spawn for a worshipper as he doesn't care for the undead or undead raising more undead for that matter. :p
My Tav's ongoing journey towards inner peace in Baldur's Gate 3
Just felt like sharing the story I crafted through my gameplay experience of my first BG3 playthrough. Still not finished.
I started put as a pretty rough and tumble wildheart barbarian, acting like a typical barbarian would. I kept him pretty firmly on the good side if a little prone to violence. I get to the goblin camp and make Crusher kiss my feet. After that I meet Kirz and she's the cutest goblin so far. I make a mental note to not kill her when things inevitably go sideways.
Fast forward, I deal with the goblin leaders, but I want to save the owl bear cub too. We fight the rest of the goblins outside, but in my barbarian rage, Kirz ends up getting killed too (I was under the impression they all needed to die and not just be knocked out to free the cub). Narratives, my Tav feels guilt over killing Kirz because he couldn't control his blood lust, even if it's still kind of a good thing for the Grove and tieflings.
All the while, Tav is getting to know his companions and can't help but notice a common thread with their problems, that being stuck serving some higher/supernatural power and their emotions getting them into deeper trouble. My Tav has been a pretty carefree wanderer (I don't play him as being from Baldur's Gate since I never played 1 or 2) and hasn't had any close friends or family, but he feels pretty empathetic towards the rest of the party.
Skip ahead to the Grymforge and Tav finds the sentient amulet and meets the cursed monk. He resists the laughter and decides to help. Out of game, I had been considering changing to Monk and the sentient amulet seemed like a good excuse. I had also gotten the Kushigo armor so there was that. In game, what I imagine is, the cursed monk sensed my Tav's inner turmoil and offered to teach him to find inner calm and focus to use ki instead.
So, from then on, the cursed monk acted as a kind of spiritual guide/mentor to my former barbarian after I respecced to open hand monk. The cursed monk imparts lessons about balance and patience onto Tav and in turn Tav tries to impart this wisdom towards the companions, acting as a balancing force to their more self destructive tendencies. Tav has to warn Gale and Astarion against lust for power and meddling with forces they don't understand. He cautions Laezel and Shadowheart to not blindly follow dogma and authority figures. He also tries to make sure Wyll doesn't get a big ego. My Tav initially was attracted by Karlach but ended up with Shadowheart instead. He still harbors some feelings for Karlach and tries very hard to keep her alive.
The cursed monk is an effective teacher despite his affliction. Eventually they reach the Open Hand Temple and find out the monk's granddaughter is dead and can't take the curse. For all that the monk taught him, Tav agrees to take the curse instead. The focus and control Tav learned as a monk helps him to resist the laughter and the spirit in the amulet is freed.
I still have the last part of act 3 to complete, but looking back on my playthrough so far I thought this made an interesting personal story. My Tav is a tempering force within the group, and he'll try to steer Astarion away from ascension and teach the vampire that he doesn't need to keep seeking power to be free.
love the broader grymforge area. vast ancient ruined underground temple with crumbling staircases and statues so tall you can't see their faces. lots of great skeletons to loot and an occasional mysterious room. could explore there all day. now, the lava sub-area, on the other hand,
No more slacking!
I'm on the job!
Yes, I know that everyone has to play their part
-Come on! Rev the engines of this beast!
[ID: Disheveled doodle of Cel from TFJ's bad end in chromatic aberration, meant to give off an abstract horror effect. Their entire appearance is nearly glitched out and overshadowed. The main trait emphasized being their wide eyed cyan stare in front of their completely wrapped face, and a long purple tear streak dripping down. Bits of binary code are crowding Cel's eye. /End ID]
(cw for scophopho.bia, tee.th, and ne.edles in the song linked!)
It really sucks to be in desperate need of like...a weeklong vacation from work and family, but you barely make enough money as is and your bills wait for no one and if you take that break you'll just be stuck in your house because you're too broke to go anywhere and you'd also be missing out on a week's pay... I can't afford to take a break but I can't afford not to at the same time
I'm gonna go play BG3 some more and pretend it's not putting a bandaid on a stab wound
Me kicking my legs and giggling at the screen when Astarion was stabby stab-stabbing Cazzy boi a thousand times looking absolutely feral with it heehee
@bardchoices inquired: ❛ how often do people literally die laughing? ❜ / everything all at once ( accepting )
" At least once, apparently. " He's knelt on the ground, and he digs through his bag. He travels light, and there's not many things in there; finally, though, he finds an old coinpurse that had gotten squashed at the bottom. The leather is in bad shape, but it'll do; he opens it, and then pulls a skinning knife from his belt and gingerly picks up the cursed amulet on the end of it. " Hells. Once I would've said there's worse fates, but now it's a contender. "
It slithers down, and he can still feel the cackling monk in his bones. He shivers; part of him wants to toss the damn thing right into the lava, but some bothersome sense of bloody duty worms in his brain, and he doesn't need yet another worm — metaphorical or not — bothering him in there.
He lifts the knife, and lets the amulet slide off the knife into the purse, and then he pulls the ties closed. He scores a rough mark on the outside of the leather to remind that something's in it — it's an 'X' — and then lifts and waggles the thing in her direction. " You want to carry it or should I? "
ouu... my scrunkle design of leo from @sentient-stove 's 'my summer home is in superhell' story/au!!
it singlehandedly revived my love for leo valdez, valdangelo, and pjo/hoo with one chapter and ive kinda been obsessed ever since...
my take on living-in-tartarus leo is that hes quite literally verging on feral and about to cross the line between sane and insane, but at the same time has lots of respect for life and the balance of it... made his hair messy and wild but also (not-so-neatly) braided in several places to help that juxtaposition and layered his clothing in a fun yet somewhat practical way!! dear author, im very sorry if this is not at all like what your au's leo looks like😓😓
also gave him an amulet of some sorts for design purposes but honestly could be something from annabeth, damasen, his mom, etc
Dr. ████ Myriad - Naturalist, Shapeshifter, SCP-963's Host
Personnel File - Easier to read Personnel File - Tag
Summary bits under the cut!
Dr. Myriad is the host to SCP-963, an indestructible amulet that, when direct skin contact is broken with it, instantly kills the culprit.
At this point, the deceased's form and memories right before death are recorded inside SCP-963, both accessible by Dr. Myriad, who may shapeshift into any recorded subjects at will.
In the event of Dr. Myriad's death, her body will completely liquify into a viscous mass of flesh and retreat into SCP-963 for a healing period in which his Primary body is reformed wearing it, taking about 1-2 hours. During this period, a slit shape will appear in the ruby of SCP-963, which Dr. Myriad is able to view their surroundings from.
Dr. Myriad itself finds great freedom in self-expression through the shapeshifting abilities of SCP-963, though struggles to come to terms with its side effect of immortality. Outbursts due to stress have manifested in off-the-grid escapades, pranks, and in some extreme cases, containment breaches, but the extra energy is currently being funneled into their work. Many coworkers find them still quite agreeable and easy to work with despite these outbursts.
Dr. Myriad utilizes its shapeshifting to assess the behavior of their assigned SCPs, most often plants, animals, and the occasional sentient object. They have been essential in understanding the processes of several SCPs, especially those with intricate social structures. Any concerns the Doctor has with containment procedures WILL be addressed by it, regardless of authority rule.
While Dr. Myriad's loyalty to Foundation regulations is questionable at best, she is still a great asset to any site under threat due to past Field Agent training, flexibility in threat assessment, and lack of self preservation while protecting others.
She could escape the Foundation on her own if she wanted to. But still, they remain. They have something still keeping them there. Or someone.
When everyone starts to look too bummed out around camp, you suggest that the group pass around the Sentient Amulet as a sort of morale boost. A laughter inducing blunt-rotation, if you will. (I keep seeing compilation videos of everyone's laughter and they're always stood in a semi-circle, seemingly taking turns and I can't help but think about how fun that would be.)
Sometimes if someone is sulking too much about something small, you'll yell "heads up!" and hurl it toward that individual because you know whoever it is will instinctually catch it and (wisdom fail be upon ye) be sent into peals of laughter.
Some members of camp respond well to this, while others (not naming any names, but you could probably guess) do... not. Strange, that some people's thanks come in the form of a threat to your well being, or maybe even a scuffle in the dirt while the rest of camp plays audience.
Hey, they can chase you around the campfire with a dagger all they want to, but they can't say you didn't put them in a better mood, right?
Hah! Nice try! The amulet Goldstar anon gave protects me from transformation magi- He feels his body tingle the same way as before when other polymorph magic was used.
