ong seongwoo x y/n
enemies to lovers au
fluff
summary: ong seongwoo, the popular guy in school who’s the reason you can’t get that number one
You looked at the bulletin board seeing that number 2 beside your name. You don’t even have to look at the name on top of yours ‘cause you know, it’s him again.
Your best friend went beside you and congratulated you. She knows that you hated it but she still encouraged you that there will be a next time.
Truthfully, you’ve never been this obsessed with rankings. It started when it was the third time that you were second place. You were genuinely happy about it.  You were looking for your friend because you also saw her name in the top rankings, when your eyes landed to a man looking at you with a smirk. You were confused. You broke the contact when your friend hugged you. After congratulating her, you asked her about the whereabouts of that man.
“Who?”
“He’s Ong Seongwoo, the rank one in school.”
Was that the reason he has such smug look on his face?
But of course, you did not judge him quickly. It may be a misunderstanding.
Months passed and you’re finally on your third year. As you entered your new classroom, you saw men chatting by the teacher’s table. You looked at them briefly and he is there, staring at you. You did not mind him and just chose any seat available.
You were minding your own business when you saw him coming closer to you. He stopped in front of you and he had the same smug look the last time you saw him.
“You’re y/n, right?”, he asked.
You nod.
“Oh, so you’re miss number 2?”
That hit your nerve. The way he said it was insulting to you. The class felt the tension between the two of you and one of his friends called him to stop whatever’s happening between the two of you.
After that, you two became enemies. Talking to each other was rare and if it ever happened, it would be an exchange of sarcastic comments. You were always on the losing side though like, what insulting thing can you even say to him?
You studied really hard for the examinations so you can finally beat him but here you are, looking at your name at the 2nd place. Your friend already went to class while you are still looking at the list of names.
An arm rested on your shoulders. You looked behind.
“Oohh, it seems like you are still number two”, while he was looking at the board.
God. You want to wipe that smirk from his face. Pushing his arm away, you walked away to go to your next class.
After class, you immediately went to your favorite cafe to relax after the stressful day. At the same time, you’d also like to study even though the next exam would be 3 months from now.
The cafe’s usually quiet but when you went inside, it was noisy and you saw familiar faces. You rolled your eyes when you made eye contact with him. You chose a table far from them.
Seongwoo, on the other hand, was already eyeing you. He stood up but Minhyun grabbed him by his arm and made him sit again.
“Seongwoo, stop bothering her.”
“Why? It’s fun.”
“Well, you’re the only one having fun. She’s irritated whenever she sees you.”
“I already know that. In fact, I love looking at her expressions.”
Minhyun let out a deep sigh and let go of Seongwoo.
“Suit yourself.”
He was so excited to tease you again, like a child given a free time to play with his favorite toy.
You were listening to music and your eyes were focused on your notes. You felt a light tap on your hand. Assuming that it was a staff, you readied a smile to face them. You raised your head just to see Seongwoo sitting in front of you.
Your smile turned into a frown. Removing one of your earphones, you gave a questioning look. When he did not spoke, you decided to start the fight talk.
“What is it?”
He’s still looking at you.
“Seongwoo!”
Still no response.
You lightly pushed his shoulder and he finally blinked.
“What’s wrong with you?”
“Oh, yeah. Right. Let me just go back to my table”, and he walked away.
You were dumbfounded. What was that all about?
The following days were torture to you. For some reason, his teasing upgraded. Before, talking to each other was rare but now, the first thing that you’ll hear in school is his voice.
“Number 2, did you study hard last night? The quiz might be too difficult for you”, Seongwoo said while you are getting books from your locker.
You rolled your eyes. “I did and my name’s y/n, not number 2.”
Right after the quiz, your teacher announced the top scorers. He announced your name first which made you really happy.
“y/n..... and Ong Seongwoo got a perfect score for this quiz.”
When will I ever beat him?
During lunch, you decided to eat on the rooftop, also to study. It was quiet. There was a faint noise coming from the field but it sounded like music to your ears.
The door opened which made you flinch. You saw Seongwoo with a smirk, as if seeing his toy again. You ignored him but you can hear the sound of his steps coming closer to you.
You heard ruffling sounds beside you which is a sign that he sat beside you. You were reading your physics book, which is the subject for the next class but he grabbed it. You looked at him with a glare.
“Woah woah, don’t be so angry”, Seongwoo said when he saw your face.
“Wow! Your notes are good”, he said while flipping one of your notebooks.
You continued ignoring him.
“You know, I think it would be nice if we can talk like normal, without the bickering and all”, he suggested. You raised your eyebrow.
“Seongwoo, you started everything”. grabbing your book and notebook from him. He just looked at you. You sighed in response.
“I didn’t even care about rankings but you rubbed the fact that I’m ONLY second place on my face when we first met”, you explained.
“Yeah, I was such a dumbass”, he replied which made you scoff.
“You still are”, and then you stood up. You were about to leave but you told him one more thing.
“By the way, this is my spot. Don’t come here again.”
The next time you went to the rooftop, he was there, obviously waiting for you. At first, he was there starting a casual conversation with you which you find weird. But as time goes on, it becomes normal. It came to a point when he brought his own books and notes to study with you. You felt that the rivalry between the two of you is disappearing. With that, your motivation to get 1st place is also out-of-sight. You thought it’s okay
The results for the recent examination was posted. Your ranking dropped to the 5th place which was unexpectedly okay to you. Seongwoo is still at number one though.
You were on your way to the rooftop and you even brought snacks to share with Seongwoo. You stopped on your tracks when you heard faint voices. You peeped at whoever’s talking. It was Seongwoo and Minhyun.
“I can’t believe she fell to 5th place”, you heard Seongwoo say.
“It’s because you were distracting her”, Minhyun replied.
“She can’t resist me, huh?”, Seongwoo said with oozing confidence from his tone.
You felt like everything’s falling apart. You actually trusted someone who had bad intentions towards you. Tears fell and you tried to quiet down your sobs. You went down slowly so they won’t hear you.
When he returned to your classroom, you looked at the floor the whole time so he won’t see your puffy eyes. The teacher came earlier than expected which hindered him from approaching you.
The bell rang signaling the end of school hours. You sighed in relief when Seongwoo was not in his seat. This time, you were on your way outside but you saw him standing by the gate, seemingly waiting for someone.
You walked faster while facing the other way, hoping he won’t recognize you. It failed.
“Hey y/n! I waited for you during lunch break but you did not come”, he said with a joyous tone.
Is he mocking me?
“Why are you not looking at me?”, he laughed softly.
I want to drain every ounce of happiness from his body.
“I’m not in the mood”, you replied. And you walked again.
“Woah, miss y/n? Not in the mood? I haven’t seen this in months”, he chuckled. You can tell he’s following you.
He turned you around just to see your puffy eyes. He got a worried look in his face.
What a great actor.
“What happened?” You would definitely fall for his acting if only you didn’t know his intentions.
“...Wait, is it because of the rankings?”, he asked.
And again, just like what happened before, his words hit your nerve. You pushed him away and started running. You stopped from running ‘cause you needed to catch your breath. You heard steps approaching and you were shocked to see Seongwoo running towards you. You wanted to ran again but your legs says no.
He finally caught up with you. He was catching his breath. He held your wrist tightly, afraid that you’ll run again.
“So if this is about the rankings, I’m sorry about that ,okay?”
“Are you really sorry about it? You planned it really well. I can’t believe I trusted you!” ,you said which left Seongwoo speechless.
“W-what? What are you talking about?”
“Oh come on. Are you acting innocent now? I hear what you said on the rooftop. You must be happy now since you’ve distracted me!”
Color faded from his face. He held you tightly on your shoulders.
“N-no! T-that’s not it! Y-y-you’ve misunderstood what I said.”
He panicked more when he saw the tears flowing through your cheeks.
“W-wait, y/n. N-no. Please don’t cry.”
Suddenly, you felt the crook of his neck on your face. He was hugging you tightly.
“Don’t cry. I didn’t mean it in that way”, he said softly. You pushed him lightly and stared at him.
“So what were trying to say then?”, you asked.
He stuttered trying to answer you.
“See? You can’t even make a decent excuse.”, you pushed him again, this time, with force.
“I can’t believe you Seongwoo. You gained my trust but you actually had a bad plan for me! You know, I enjoyed the times when we spent our time on that rooftop but you? You were just playing on me! On top of that, I can’t believe I fell in love with you. Are you happy that you distracted me?!”
Realizing what you said, you covered your mouth and turned your back on him.
God. Why did I have to say that?!
“You can laugh, Seongwoo”, lowering down your head.
You flinched when he held your hand. He held it softly constantly rubbing the back of your hand with his thumb. Then,  he looked at you with seriousness on his face.
“I love you too, dummy”, then he smiled. He lowered a bit to match your height. Now, only few inches separates you two.
“That smile you accidentally gave me in the cafe was everything”.
You didn’t know that Seongwoo’s capable of saying such sweet words. You’re blushing profusely. A smile never left Seongwoo’s lips.
“S-so what was with your conversation with Minhyun?”
He stood up, rubbing his nape.
“I.. was happy that I was able to distract you. Don’t take it the wrong way. It’s just that when I saw your ranking, I thought that I maybe have some effect on you”, a shy smile creeping his face.
“That is such a weird analogy”, you told him which made him panicked.
“... but it’s true”, you continued.
He smiled so brightly and he even rested his arm on your shoulders.
“So, how about we go on a cafe date? I’m tired of that rooftop”, he said, slightly pouting. You chuckled then nod as approval.
And that was the start of your relationship with Seongwoo where rankings do not matter.

words: 2316 | genre: a little angsty, fluff
Seongwoo was tired when he got out of practice. Getting ready for a comeback was never easy, although pretty fun. Their newest choreography was their best one yet, and he was proud to have participated in making a few steps. But today had been difficult. He had barely slept the night before for some reason, probably because he was too anxious, so he kept getting the moves wrong during practice. And because all the members were exhausted, some tensions arised, and they decided to cut it short. That's how they got to get home early, for once.
But Seongwoo was still very upset as he entered their place, and walked straight to his room, ignoring the calls of Daniel, who was clearly worried about his friend. The brunette was so frustrated with himself, the only thing that he wanted to do was to sleep it off for hours. As he laid on his bed, got under his blanket and closed his eyes for a few seconds, he heard someone calling him. He was exhausted but could still recognise Daehwi's voice. He didn't move though, his body wasn't even reacting. So he wasn't surprised when the younger member knocked on his door and opened the door, a bit scared to bother Seongwoo.
"Hyung, Y/N called, she'll be there in a few minutes with food for all of us. Jisung hyung sent me to get you, so we can all eat together."
"I don't feel like it Daehwi, tell the others I'll just be sleeping, yeah?" answered Seongwoo, too tired to lift his head, but still sending a soft smile to his friend.
"Are you sure? I think she might be coming to see you especially though.." said Daehwi, pouting. Y/N was a good friend of all the boys, but it had always been obvious she had a soft spot for Seongwoo. To which extend, they were all wondering. So the youngest thought she might be a little disappointed to not see her friend tonight.
"I'm sure she'll understand. I'm too tired Daehwi, I can't even walk out of the bed, I just need to rest."
"Is that all? You don't look just tired, but also upset and kind of sad? Frustrated? Do you want to talk about it hyung? You know we're always here?" whispered Daehwi, so that the others won't hear him. It made Seongwoo smile weakly, but he couldn't meet the younger's eyes. It was true he wasn't just sad, but he didn't want his friend to worry about him. He had enough to deal with on his own.
"Daehwi-ah, I'm fine, I really am. Just exhausted, so I just need to sleep it off and tomorrow will be a better day so please, don't worry about me? Tell the boys and Y/N I'm okay. And I don't really want to be bothered.. please?" pleaded Seongwoo. He never really liked to share his burden with anyone. It was his own problem to deal with.
Daehwi understood and nodded, closing the door on his way to the living room. Seongwoo let out a sigh of relief, not feeling like talking at all. He closed his eyes again and felt himself drift off, finally feeling at peace.
It was a few minutes later though, that he heard the door open and close, and someone sit by his side. He recognised your presence in a heartbeat, and he almost felt happy to have you here for a moment. But as he had told his friend, he wasn't in a great mood to talk. And you were definitely here to talk.
"Seongwoo? I know you're not sleeping.. the boys told me you weren't feeling so great so I wanted to check on you.." you told him, your hand slowly reaching his shoulder to smooth him a little.
He sighed once again, and opened his eyes, looking at you. You were usually at ease with him, but his gaze was so intense and void of any emotions that a chill ran down your spine. You didn't feel that great, like this conversation wasn't going to end well and you almost regretted getting in his bedroom in the first place. But you were worried about him, a lot. He had been so tired lately, he hadn't sent any messages like he'd usually do to reassure you.
"Please, leave Y/N. I know what you want, and I'm too tired for this." said Seongwoo, his voice barely audible.
"I'm not here to bother you, I just... I'm worried about you. With all the comeback preparations, you must be under a lot of pressure. The boys said you helped choreograph and that you haven't been sleeping properly for days and I'm just.. Seongwoo, I'm just worried about you."
"Well don't be. I'm fine, alright? It's no big deal. I've been through a survival show, a debut and two comebacks already and guess what? I'm still alive. So please, just leave." his voice was stronger, and his words sounded so harsh to you. It hurt you, but it was so hard to let go of this conversation when you knew how affected your friend, if you could call him like that, was by all this.
"Seongwoo, please. I'm sure just talking about it, letting it out will help you feel better and get a good night of sleep. I get it if I'm not the person you'd rather turn to but the boys.. they worry as well. Daniel especially, so please talk to any of us. You need to learn how to share your burden with the people around you." you whispered, as you sat closer him, your hand caressing his skin. But you could tell your friend was truly pissed off as he pushed your hand away and got up, putting some more distance between you.
"I said leave, Y/N. What don't you understand? I don't want to talk and you're right, you're not the person I'd turn to for this anwyay. You woulnd't understand as you're not even in this world! Just leave me alone already, I just want to sleep for goddamn sake!" he shouted, a little louder than he had intended to. Your heart broke, and he saw your face fall. He felt bad for shouting that way, especially since he knew you only wanted him to feel good. But with the state he was in, he couldn't care less at the moment.
And you got that, as you looked at his cold face. You got up as soon as you felt tears coming up, and left the room without turning back. You knew it was a bad idea from the start, but you cared so much about him that knowing he wasn't feeling was killing you. You just wanted him to share his problems with someone, wehther it'd be you or the rest of the members.
You felt all of their worried looks as soon as you entered the living room. You didn't want to talk about it, even though they had probably heard Seongwoo yell. Sungwoon, one of your closest friends, was angry and was about to share his mind with the brunette.
"Don't. He's not feeling well, let him sleep and he'll be just fine tomorrow. I'll go for now, I shouldn't have come in the first place. I should have asked about your day before intruding in your life, again. I'm sorry guys, see you soon." you told them, your voice about to break. They all began talking at the same time, trying to make you stay and cheer you up, but you weren't having any of it. You took all of your stuff and left, feeling a bit hopeless.
It was only two days later that you received a text from him, asking if you could meet up at a coffee near your place later at night, when people wouldn't recognise him. You were still upset, but more with yourself than with Seongwoo and the way he had talked to you that night. You had been in the wrong, entering his room in the first place and trying to get him to talk when he just wanted to be left alone. You hadn't thought about how he would feel and the situation had turned bad mostly because of that. Even though he had his wrongs as well.
And he was pretty aware of it. Daniel had talked to him the morning after your fight, saying that just because he was tired wasn't a reason to shout at someone who only cared about his wellbeing. And Seongwoo knew that. He knew how much you care, as he cares just as much for you. You two had quite a special bond, relationship. You had clicked immediately, spending a lot more time together than you do with the rest of the boys. It was somewhat difficult to trust people and make friends once in the industry, but he had been able to count on you on so many occasions, he knew you only wanted the best for him. And he was truly grateful for that. He was grateful for you, and your relationship that was sometimes hard to define, as you both had never tried to hide the beginning of romance feelings for each other.
Seongwoo really wanted to make up with you after being such a dick. At ten pm, he saw you walking towards the coffee shop he was sitting in. You looked beautiful, and the thought of spending time with you made him smile. He's missed you a lot, and didn't like it when you two fought.
The coffee shop was pretty much empty, as you live in a calm area. You entered the place feeling a bit nervous. But all of that went away the moment you saw him, smiling at you. You walked to the table, and sat right in front of him. He didn't leave you time to take off your coat, and grabbed your hand immediately.
"Hey, I missed you Y/N." he said, his voice softer than the last time you had spoken. "I missed you too Seongwoo, a lot." you answered. It was hard to resist a smile. You felt comfortable.
"I'm sorry for making you come here so late in the week.. I just needed to apologise, and I didn't want to send a lame text. I had to meet you... I was such a dick to you, I didn't mean to. I know it's not an excuse and I was so tired and pissed off because of the practice we had that day that I just didn't feel like talking at all. I wasn't expecting you to try to get to me and I just lost it. You didn't deserve any of that. I know you only care about me, and thank you for that. I might be bad at showing it, but I'm so glad you're by my side, Y/N. Trust me on that." he finally took a breath at the end of his apology, and you felt your entire being melt. He was the cutest for sure, and you just wanted to give him a hug.
"Your words hurt but it's not like that I didn't see it coming. I should have known to stay at my place. If you didn't want to talk, then I should have respected that. We were both in the wrong, Seongwoo. So let's just forget about that, and order some drinks. We have to catch up, two days felt too long."
You ended up talking for an hour, and only stopped because it was getting late and you still had to walk home. Seongwoo offered to come by, and you couldn't turn him down. It felt so great to spend some time with him. As you two were walking side by side, you felt his hand gently grabbing yours. You looked up at him, surprised. You had held hands before, but in private, not in the street. Well, not like anyone could see you at this time but still. You stopped in your tracks, looking at him, your eyes asking questions as your found his. He only smiled, and interlocked your fingers.
"I told you, I missed you. It's been too long since I held you like that." he whispered, getting closer to you. He kissed your temple, making you shiver. He had never tried hiding his growing feelings for you, but it still took you by surprise every time he was this affectionate.
"I don't like it when we fight, when I hurt you. But I know it always happens because I keep everything to myself and make you worry about me. Let's change that.. I'm not the best at confessing feelings, but I'd like to talk to you about stuff I'm going through, from time to time, if you're willing to listen.." he admitted, as you placed your free hand on his cheek, stroking it slowly.
"I would love to Seongwoo. You can always trust me." you whispered back. And it was right, he could always trust you. He had found a friend in you, but a confident as well and, he hoped, a lover. His contract with his agency was making it impossible for you two to be anything more than friends at the moment, but he hoped to be able to call you his soon. For now, since there was on one in the street, he felt free to act on his feelings for once. He reduced the distance between the two of you, and placed his lips against your soft ones. Making up had never felt so good, to the both of you. You felt the happiest when you're with him. And he knew, as he kept kissing you tenderly, that he had it real bad for you.

here’s to our future
summary: On your graduation day, you and Seongwoo realized that breaking up may not be the best choice for you two.
genre: angst, slice-of-life, fluff
characters: (fem) reader x ong seongwoo of wanna one (ft. kang daniel)
word count: 1621
a/n: hope you guys like it!
You stared at the tall building in front of you, feeling relieved that you managed to get out of this hell called university just in time. But you somehow felt sad too; everything that happened inside that building had been nothing but amazing for you. Well, most of your days as a university student consisted of you looking half-dead after pulling an all-nighter and you cursing out heartless professors who seemed to forget that they were once students too. However, you were happy. You were hopeful; that everything would be worth it, that your future would be bright enough for you to live well.
Now, you were terrified. Terrified of your future job, terrified of your future co-workers, terrified of days without Ong Seongwoo.
Ong Seongwoo, you tested his name in your head. You almost never thought of him as you didn’t want to make yourself with memories of the two of you together, but you never moved on. You tried to make yourself believe that you did, but a voice inside your head always told you to avoid thinking about him.
“You’re so dumb how did you lose your cap  when we’re not inside the hall yet!” Kang Daniel, your best friend slash partner-in-crime, appeared out of nowhere. He dumped one of the graduation caps he had on your head, ruining your hair that you spent two hours styling. Curse words were already on the tip of your tongue, but you decided to hold back. Today is a happy day, you chanted.
“Can you be just a little bit more considerate I woke up at 5 to do my hair,” you retorted, fixing the cap while trying to save your hair. “But thanks,” you added. Daniel only chuckled, eyeing you from head to toe. “Wow, you actually put some effort to look decent today,” he teased, pulling you inside the building as other graduates started to enter the hall.
“Seongwoo found it, though. Not me,” Daniel continued, causing you to stop on your tracks. “I see,” you answered sheepishly, your eyes caught Seongwoo’s as the latter entered the hall with his friends Hwang Minhyun and Yoon Jisung. He gave you a small smile, and you could almost hear him say, “How are you going to live without me, Y/N?” in a playful tone that you loved so much.
Yeah, how am I going to live without you?
The graduation ceremony ended faster than your expectation. You and Daniel snapped as many selfies as you could since you two wouldn’t be able to see each other often after this. Daniel decided to go back to Busan to teach at a dance academy, a decision that caused his parents to flip out since he spent 4.5 years to study marketing but didn’t even bother trying to look for a job in that field. You, meanwhile, were recently hired as a member of the creative team for one of the biggest entertainment companies.
“You really should talk to Seongwoo,” Daniel suggested, looking dead serious all of sudden. You groaned, not wanting to have this useless discussion again with him. You and Seongwoo were over. He was the one who wanted to end things with you, he was the one who left you. Why would you talk to him again?
“Don’t you think that he probably, you know, regret his decision?” Daniel asked again, but you only shrugged. Only a few steps away from you, Seongwoo was busy striking silly poses with Kim Jaehwan, and you started laughing before you could stop yourself. Seongwoo was funny, not because what he did was funny, but because he was Seongwoo. He was always being himself.
That was why you never tried to ask for explanation from him after he broke up with you. If he did it, then he meant it.
You just stood there with Daniel for a while, watching Seongwoo took a few more photos with Jaehwan, Jisung and Minhyun. At one point, you felt Jisung’s eyes on you. You panicked when he suddenly stopped posing to whisper something to Seongwoo’s ear. You immediately started dragging Daniel away when suddenly you felt a hand on your shoulder.
There he was, standing so close to you, staring into your eyes. You felt weak; Seongwoo always did that to you. One stare was enough to melt you. To mess up with your whole system. Everytime he looked at you like that, something big always happened. The last time he did, you two broke up.
You wondered what would happen this time.
“Yeah, sure,” you mumbled after he asked you to talk to him. He led you to the audio visual room on the sixth floor, where you first met him. Seongwoo closed the door after you entered the room before sitting down at one of the seats. You sat beside him, trying to figure out what made him do this months after your breakup.
Seongwoo pulled out a little blue box from his pocket and put it on your lap. You looked up and met his eyes. This time, his eyes told you that he felt nervous. You slowly opened the box, a silver bracelet that you had always wanted was inside. You turned to Seongwoo, feeling your eyes brimmed with tears. You remembered seeing that bracelet during your last date with Seongwoo, just an hour before he destroyed your heart and everything inside.
“I’m sorry,” he broke the silence. “I didn’t break up with you because I stopped loving you. I never did.”
“What the fuck, Ong Seongwoo,” you snapped. “Don’t play with me. You clearly said that you couldn’t imagine yourself being with me anymore. You said that you felt nothing when you were with me, now you’re saying that you’re still in love with me?”
“Yes,” he answered. “Yes, I said those things. Yes, I wanted us to be over. But I lied. I was afraid.” You frowned at his last sentence. Afraid? You were never a romantic, but you always believed that as long as you two were together, things would eventually be okay. There would be bad days, there would be disastrous days, but you would be able to go through them. Because you were you, because Seongwoo was Seongwoo. Because you had each other.
“You got a job before I did, and at that time, I didn’t know whether I would get one before we graduated. You know I took a semester off after my father passed away. I took part-time jobs instead of doing internships. No company wanted to hire me because of that,” he confessed. “I really, really wanted to make you happy. I want you to be proud of me, and I just couldn’t tell you how little I felt compared to other people.”
“But then I realized I was just ashamed of myself. It was me, my stupid pride, that made you suffer. And I’m sorry. I know you’re disappointed in me, but give me a chance to try again. Only if you want to,” Seongwoo concluded while reaching out to envelope your hand with his. He tightened his grip on your hand when you didn’t resist, his eyes piercing straight through your heart.
“You really know how to mess up with my heart, Seongwoo,” you said as you lifted the bracelet he gave you. It had the word “hope” carved on its inner side, and that was why you fell in love with it at the first place. Seongwoo glanced at you as he slowly took the bracelet from you. You watched him fasten the clasp on your wrist, and you honestly didn’t know whether you wanted to thank him for being honest with you or yell at him for hurting you.
You were still trying to sort out your feelings when your phone rang. It was Daniel, probably wanting to tell you that your parents were looking for you. “Come on,” Seongwoo stood up, his hand was still holding yours. “We’ll talk again later. I’m sure you still need time.” You nodded and followed him, staring at your intertwined hands.
“Seongwoo,” you called him. He turned back, and you couldn’t help but feel breathless. You knew how much he suffered, how much he wanted to be strong for both of you. He failed once, but you knew how much he wanted to try again.
You circled your hands around his waist, burying your head in his chest. “Y/N, I’m sorry. I’m so sorry,” he muttered into your hair, his hands hugging you so tight. You nodded, letting his warmth that you had missed conquer your senses. You loved him, and maybe he loved you too.
“I love you,” he whispered as if hearing your doubts. He repeated those three words again and again and again until his voice cracked. “I won’t give up on you. I’ll work hard. I’m sorry if you think I did. I love you,” he said while letting you go. He grabbed your face with his strong hands, brushing your bangs in the way that always made you weak on the knees. “I really want to kiss you right now, but if I do I don’t know when I’ll stop,” Seongwoo murmured, his fingers tracing your lips softly.
You only chuckled, pulling him closer to close the gap between you. As you felt his soft lips against yours, you promised yourself that you wouldn’t run away from any kind of challenge that the two of you could possibly face in the future. Seongwoo gave you his brightest smile when he pulled away. “Anyways, I’ve bought that bracelet even before you saw it. I planned to give it to you as your graduation present,” he said, before adding, “You’re my hope.”
You cringed at his words, but he knew you loved it anyways.

santa baby
member: ong seongwu genre: fluff, comedy summary: you take your baby cousin to the mall to take a photo with santa only to find out that the mall santa was someone you knew. a/n: hi i know this is super random, but here’s an unfinished scenario i wrote and found in my drafts from idek how long ago..... LMAO ok byeeee
you’re carrying your baby cousin on your back, making your way into the mall. she was beyond excited about seeing santa for the first time. she was five and her parents (your aunt and uncle) had tight schedules during this time of the year. you started babysitting her this year, and she grew an attachment to you.
she’s heard many stories about santa and how he leaves gifts for good people around the world. the last few weeks you’ve witnessed her cleaning up after herself, brushing her teeth after every meal herself, and eating all her veggies. it was a miracle itself that broccoli went down her throat.
“i was a good girl so santa is going to get me the my little pony that i want, right?” she asked you as she hugged your neck even tighter at the thought.
you smiled and nodded, “yup! santa gives gifts to good kids and his elf asked me whether you’ve been good.”
“really? you told him how i ate broccoli right?” she was enthusiastic as her little feet started kicking.
“i told him all about that and how you clean up after playing your toys now,” you told her.
“you’re the best. i love you,” she snuggled against your cheeks before planting at kiss on it.
“i love you too,” you chuckled.
“say what do you want for christmas? does santa know?” she asked you, “you should sit on santa’s lap with me and ask. good people get gifts right? you’re so good! you’re like earth’s angel.”
you laughed even louder. what was she saying? “i’m not earth’s angel, honey,” you told her but she only disagreed even more.
“you have to sit on santa’s lap and tell him what you want. please, for me?” she pouted and gripped onto your shirt, begging you.
you agreed only to get her to stop attempting to choke you with your own shirt, but when santa was in view point, she began jumping up and down on your back. tears almost filled her eyes as she was overwhelmed with so much excitement. she was almost like a fangirl seeing her idol for the first time, a sight you might be seeing when she gets older.
when you put her down, she started running to santa. luckily, santa’s shop wasn’t open for business yet and there wasn’t a line, but it wasn’t good that she was running off on her own. by the time you got to her, her arm was already clinging onto santa’s leg.
“santa! it’s me,” she cheered.
“ho! ho! ho! look who we have here,” santa smiled down at her and picked her up.
“i’m so sorry, san––” you stopped and almost choked when you saw his face when he turned around to look at you, “oh my god?”
what the hell was ong seongwu doing in a santa costume? isn’t he... i don’t know too young looking?
“y/n?” ‘santa’ called your name in his out of character vocals and he quickly caught himself, “i mean, ahem, y/n?”
“wow, y/n! you know santa? i can’t believe this!” she cried out and hugged him even tighter, “i didn’t believe her but you even know their name. i’m so happy.”
“of course. i know all the good boys and girls and all the naughty ones too,” he said as he glanced over to you with a smug look, to which you rolled your eyes at.
seongwu was always like this, making small remarks only to get you annoyed. he’d say it’s not his fault that you were just so easy to tease, because... you were. you don’t know how to react to most of the things he say to you.

Seongwoo as your boyfriend
Tumblr media
He sends you snaps when you aren't together and most of them are captioned as "I miss you" or "Come cuddle".
He didn't care if his members or staff were looking at you two, if he wanted to be mushy, he was mushy with you in front of everyone.
A BIG TEASER but he stops when you tease him back.
Seongwoo is pretty confident around you but he has his shy moments though like when you two weren't a couple yet and Daniel asked about you. He got all blushy and giggly because he had the biggest crush on you.
Daehwi loved to be around you to get him jealous, 90% of the time didn't work but the other 10% yes and Seongwoo wAS POUTY.
Kisses your cheeks a lot... A LOT. Your cheeks and nose are free state for him.
"If I could have anyone in the world, it would still be you"
Seongwoo loves being feed by you and only can be more perfect if you cook the food. You'd spoil him a lot, especially if it's food.
Slow dances in the living room with you when he's feeling particularly romantic.
Plays the drum while you sit on his lap and sings for you when you can't sleep.
His day is not complete if he doesn't make you laugh.
For him, your smile is wonderful, a 100% effective remedy that takes all his stress away. He always tries to make you the happiest person in the world.
"Damn, that smile"
You love his reactions so you love to scare him. It's as simple as saying "boo" behind the couch and he'll be yelling or doing weird fighting poses. Then you feel bad for scaring him and you fill him with kisses.
You are not a fan of horror movies but whenever you can choose, you choose one only to watch Seongwoo hide himself in your neck, holding you tight.
You guys never fight but sometimes his teasing and personality can be a little to much for you. If it's something small, you will tell him and he'll apologize right after but if it's more serious, you'll give him the silent treatment and he'll be a lost puppy until he knows what made you upset.
He calls you by cute and really cheesy nicknames even if you are older than him.
"Boo boo, can I borrow one of your hoodies?"
"The boys are coming today, gummy bear"
"I love you my sugar plum"

Penny Up, Penny Drop
Tumblr media
Genre: fluff/soulmate au
Words: 442
Warnings: n/a
a/n: yo so like no one requests Wanna One and I love Ong sm (as well as Daniel and Jisung) so here’s some Wanna One soulmate stuff woop
“I swear I’m going to kill this man when I meet him,” you grumbled as you iced your wrist.
This was the 3rd injury this month and honestly, you were starting to get fed up with whatever your soulmate was doing. What in the world could he be getting up to that lead to him, and you, to be injured so frequently? You felt like you needed a degree in medicine at this point, seeing how many times you’ve had to patch yourself up.
“Aww come on now,” your friend Somi said, “At least you’ll be able to figure out who your soulmate is right away. He’ll be just as banged up as you!”
“Haha, very funny,” you said sarcastically.
You wrapped up your wrist in a bandage, securing it with a safety pin. Somi started talking to you about gossip and such as the two of you left your home and went down the street to the local cafe to eat some lunch. You let Somi talk your ear off the entire walk there. Once you walked in, however, she went a bit quiet.
“Look over there!” she exclaimed quietly, “It’s Daniel and Seongwoo. They’re so handsome~”
“You’re so hopeless,” you laughed
You turned to look at Somi but she was walking towards the boys. You sighed and trudged over to join them.
“Hey Y/N,” Daniel smiled at you,
“Hey,” Seongwoo raised his arm and stiffly waved his arm
“Hi, Daniel,” you squinted at Seongwoo, “What’s up with your arm?”
“Ah, I just sprained my wrist during dance practice, nothing major. It happens all the time,” he chuckled
“I can confirm,” Daniel interjected
“Penny up,” Somi said to herself
You turned to ask Somi what she had said but Daniel asked you what happened to your wrist before you could say anything to her.
“Ah, you know, soulma-” you paused, “Oh.”
“And penny drop,” Somi chuckled, “Daniel, I think we should leave Ong and Y/N alone for a little while. They need to talk about some things~”
Before Daniel could ask what she meant, Somi whisked Daniel away, leaving you and Ong alone, your face turning pinker and pinker now that you realized what was happening.
“So you and I,” Ong pointed between the two of you
“Yeah,”
There was silence between you two, the air filled with awkward tension. You sat down across from him and looked at him dead in the eyes.
“How in the hell do you get so many injuries?” you asked flabbergasted
Ong didn’t know how to respond so he just laughed heartily, clearing the tension and making both of you relax so you could talk.

Truth or a dream? | seongwoo
genre: angst
member: seongwoo
requested: nope
summary: you never knew that you are just a rebound to the most important person on earth to you.
side note: hiii everyone!! i’m not sure if anyone still remembers me but i’m back here with another scenario :> i know this is really out of the blue because i’ve disappeared for a good 8 months since my last scenario and trust me, i really do miss updating and writing as much as i used to do.
it has been a really really long time since i wrote something so please do forgive me because i know this is really crap... i just wanted to write something but unfortunately, i think i have lost all of my writing skills which really suck :( even having hiatus for 8 months, i still can’t get my life together :’) can someone explain why is my life such a mess
anyways,, i do hope everyone is doing well in this new year 💓
“how can i ever forget someone that once meant the world to me?” you sighed as you lied on your bed
you honestly wished you knew the risk of love earlier
way earlier before you met seongwoo
because he crushed every little hope you have about love in your mind
just like how fairy tales are never true
looking at the condition of your heart, you knew it is a wiser choice to have never meet seongwoo at all
you thought seongwoo is finally the one after waiting patiently for all these years
you thought that he’s the guy that would stay with you
that would embrace your flaws
that would love you when you let your true self out
you thought seongwoo could help you get out of your comfort zone and turn your life around
but guess what
your dreams of finding such a person don’t exist after all
you had chills all over whenever you thought about seongwoo
because he fits exactly into your ideal type
tall? checked
a witty person? checked
having boyfriend manners that would melt your heart? checked
you just don’t get it sometimes
seongwoo fits exactly into your ideal type
and yet
he is also the one that broke your heart
ironic isn’t it?
and no matter how hard you try
your mind still remembers every single day with him, clearly
as in your memories with seongwoo is already part of your blood
right from day one, where you first met him at your part-time job, at the convenience store
he already left a positive impression
you realized how happy you were back then
and not only the first day
it happened for the next day and the day after
and surprisingly, even after bidding goodbye to seongwoo
that smile on your face has never left
he is probably the first guy that made you smile in such a long while
you assumed that all these kind of wild thoughts you were having would only last a couple of days
but oh boy
you are very wrong here
you smiled and brush off the thought of possibly falling in love with him
you even suspected yourself for being crazy for liking someone that you just met 2 weeks ago??
“nah nah that is not happening and that will never happen”
butttt
the more you denied, the harder you fall for seongwoo
you realized how doomed you are when he’s the last and first person on your mind
and before you know it, you really did like seongwoo already
your heart isn’t helping as well
it is already beating so fast just with the thought of seeing him later in the evening
the thought of having dinner together also gets you excited
and your smile got even wider after knowing that both of you stay near each other
“i swear you’re driving me nuts, seongwoo” that’s your conclusion whenever your heart beats like mad
and when you finally see at the store, oh boy
you could become like a fool
and honestly, it was freaking hard to control your feelings
when seongwoo would trap you between those shelves when you couldn’t reach for something on top
or all those moments where he would ruffle or pat your head just because he thinks you’re cute
your feelings would just get deeper each time
and every single day at work, it is just like an adventure
you have no idea what he would say to make your heart race a little more
“i got your back, you can always lean on me”
seongwoo reassures you whenever he could tell that something is bothering you
with that, your trust got deeper each time, knowing that he always say such comforting words
you started letting seongwoo into your heart, thinking that he is someone worth entering your heart
you knew you were in love with seongwoo when you wrote everything that happened for the day in your diary
simply because you’re afraid that you will forget about all these precious memories that won’t come twice
you’re so afraid that a disaster might happen tomorrow and seongwoo would just leave you
but guess what :-)
each day with seongwoo just gets better
you have never look forward to working this much before
although it can be freaking tiring to sit there and just stare at all those snacks
but you know when seongwoo joins you for work, you never felt tired anymore
and even on days where seongwoo is working on another shift, your heart still skips a beat whenever you see his name appear on your phone’s notification
you’re just super happy whenever he texts you
and although you guys could be talking about random stuff, that makes your heart full enough
and the fact that he always tells you goodnight is really warming you up
at this rate, you started questioning yourself if seongwoo ever likes you
and when Christmas day comes, you really thought you got yourself an answer
“if you wanna see the christmas tree at the town later on, i don’t mind meeting you and we could go together”
when you read that text, you’re about to explode into billion pieces
did your crush really just asked you out????
you couldn’t believe your eyes
obviously, you agreed and went to meet seongwoo
oh god you thought working with him at the store alone is nice enough
that night was the best night ever
there wasn’t a moment that you didn’t stop smiling
you guys walked so close to each other that your shoulders would meet his once in a while
not to mention
your hands would brush against his and seongwoo didn’t even bother moving away
it was so freaking obvious you were in love that night
and that night is also the night you were pretty sure seongwoo felt the same way
you guys took a photo together like how couples would do
he held you close by the waist
while your heart could jump out any moment
after that night, things continued to get better
until one day
a day, just like any other day
but just that things started to collapse
seongwoo started working lesser and lesser
same goes for the number of text
and even if you do text him, you just couldn’t help but sense that coldness in his tone
“what’s wrong?” you wondered to yourself
you didn’t want to sound to overprotective and ask him that
your heart started to ache because it’s a question that you’ll never have the answer to
you constantly prayed that this would stop and it is just a nightmare for a day
but things continued to spiral down
he didn’t bother replying to your text
and you know things are so wrong when he decided to ignore and walk past you when you’re obviously there standing, looking at him
it drives you crazy
because how can someone that means the world to you, is also the reason why you’re hurting now
you just don’t understand how could things changed in a week
just shortly in a week, you forget how it’s like to smile
how it’s like to go to bed without having these endless thoughts running around
you just couldn’t figure out why
until your close friend, soojin asked if there’s anything bothering you and you just spilled everything
“i’m sorry that you’re going through this now but from what i see... i think you’re just a rebound to seongwoo”
“seongwoo just broke up with his girlfriend 2 months before you came and... they lasted for a good 5 years”
“... rebound?”
that’s all it takes to break your heart
now that you recalled every single memory, every single day spent with seongwoo
it really does seem like it
you were just a rebound after all
how great is that
now the question is, “how can i ever forget someone that once meant the world to me?”
you sighed as you lied your bed
were you in a dream all these while?
plsss do forgive me if this is really bad!! :(

April Fools’
Tumblr media
fluff, bit angst
ong seongwoo x reader
“Ow!”
You exclaimed when you felt a hand hitting your head. You knew exactly who it is and you glared at him.
“Oops! Your head is just too perfect for hitting”, he nonchalantly replied. You kicked him back.
You and Seongwoo had been in this game for years. It started when you were still in high school and it continued on to college. He gave you one last glance before disappearing. What’s with him?
You fixed your hair then you touched.. something. You quickly looked for a mirror and you raced after him.
“Yaaaah! Ong Seongwoo!!!!”
He heard your voice and run fast while laughing. That guy just placed a gum on your hair. The bell sounded and he went to his class immediately. Of course, you can’t follow him inside since the professor is already in.
I’ll get him in the next class.
You share two classes with Seongwoo and it always give a headache to your professor. Before you went to your class, you went ahead and cut your hair to remove the gum. Thanks to him, you now got a short-hair which definitely doesn’t suit your circle-shaped face.
Before entering the class you shared with him, you made sure that you have an extra bottle of juice. It would be perfect with the white blouse he worn today.
When you opened the door, everyone’s eyes was on your hair you. You walked towards him. He had this smug look on his face that you absolutely want to remove.
“You’re looking good”, he teased.
“Really? Well, let me thank you for that.” You poured the juice on his head and stains were left on his blouse.
“Now, you got the wet look. Pretty sure, girls will like you more now”, you said with a fake smile. He glared at you. He stood up to get revenge but the professor just arrived. The professor looked at the scene and sighed.
“It’s you two again. Seongwoo, clean up then come back.”
You stifled a laugh as you looked at his angry face. At first, the professor scolded you for doing such pranks but he later gave up. Seems like it will not end even with a scolding so he just dealt with it calmly.
When you went home, you marked the calendar with an X. Tomorrow, huh?
Tomorrow’s April 1 aka April Fool’s Day. Yours and his friends refrain from approaching you two on that day. The worst pranks are done on that day. Let’s just not mention those pranks ‘cause they were really embarrassing. You prepared a dress that he can wear. You’re planning to pour juice again on him and he’ll probably think that’s it. But you’ll follow him to the toilet and as soon as he removes those clothes, you’ll grabbed them and leave that dress, leaving him with no choice. It’s the perfect plan.
After the preparation, you lied on your bed. When will this end? You wanted to end this for a long time but you were afraid that the only connection you have with him will vanish. The truth is, you like him from the start but your stubborn self refused to believe your feelings. Instead of confessing, you did jokes and pranks on him and because he is quite playful, he went along with your games.
The next day, you were walking along the corridor and you saw Seongwoo walking towards you. You observed him with scrutinizing eyes. You’re not letting your guard down.
“Good morning!”, and he left. What was that? Is this his new scheme?
When you entered class, you worn a raincoat. You remembered that last year, he prepared a bucket of water and flour to pour on you. It was hard to remove all that mess from your body. This time, when you entered, nothing happened. You heard his giggles.
“I ain’t doing that.... In fact, I won’t do anything today.”
Huh? But it’s April 1???
Now, you are hesitating to do a prank. What if he really meant it? You thought that this is the opportunity you were waiting for to end all of these. What if he’s lying? You hated the feeling. You don’t know what to do.
You postponed your plan and waited for him to do something first. But it’s already 4 in the afternoon and still, nothing happened. Was he telling the truth? After your classes, you decided to go home immediately. You were almost at the school gates when someone pulled you.
“Seongwoo?”
“Hey. Do you have time? Let’s talk.”
Suddenly, your guard is up. This day is not yet done. He led you to the back of the Engineering building. At this time, no one passes in this area.
“So, why are we here?”, you asked.
“Well, the truth is... Wait. Give me some time. I’m a bit nervous.”
He really did seem nervous. He touched the nape of his neck and continued talking.
“This is a bad time to say this since it’s April 1 but I’m not joking. I like you, y/n.”
Wait.. What?
You did not reply and he noticed it.
“I’m not lying, y/n. I really like you. I actually did all of these to get your attention”, he added.
Really? Then we actually felt the same way?
You were happy. You can finally stop these pranks and can move on to the next level at the same day.
“Me too. I also - - -”
“April Fool’s! Hahaha!”, one of his friends was secretly filming everything behind the bushes. Then, your heart dropped. His friend run away, thinking that you might grab the camera from him. You were left with Seongwoo. It was quiet.
He heard your last words and he got the gist of it. To escape from this awkwardness, you faked a laugh. You kept your head down. You approached him and lightly hit him.
“You got me.” It was perfect until your voice cracked. You’ve never felt this embarrassment before.
“y/n...”
“I should go. You won today.”
You walked away but the tears started to fall on your cheeks so you soon run away.
The next day, you desperately wanted to miss class but you can’t. Exam week is near and you can’t miss any lessons. Fortunately, your eyes are not puffy. You look.. okay.
You attended all your classes. Some of your friends were bewildered that no pranks happened. Unlike before, you don’t even look at Seongwoo if he ever pass by.
One afternoon, Sungwoon, the one who took a video of you approached you.
“y/n, do you have time?”
“Uh.. sure. What’s the matter?”
“Don’t worry. I did not show that video to anyone. Only the three of us knows about it.”
You haven’t even told him anything. Why is he approaching you?
“Umm.. okay. Thanks”, you replied shortly.
“Now, can you please talk to Seongwoo? That guy is becoming weird”, he added.
“He jokes less and he’s quiet. You know that’s not the normal Seongwoo, right? So can you talk to him? He’s afraid to approach you first”, he explained.
Later on, you saw him alone at his classroom after class.
You threw a rolled paper to his head. Usually, he would over exaggerate but not this time. He simply rubbed his head.
“There’s really something wrong with you, huh?”
Upon hearing your voice, he stood up and looked at your direction.
“So is this all because of what happened on April Fools?”, you asked. He didn’t reply and just stared at you. You lightly hit him and that woke him up from his daydream.
“Oh come on~ It’s not a big deal”, you lightly laughed.
“I’m sorry”, he said.
You can tell the sincerity from his eyes. You gave him a smile.
“It’s fine. You are forgiven”, you replied.
After that, he finally had a smile on his lips. He picked up his things and went out of school with you.
“Okay, so just don’t post that video anywhere. Or else I’ll be mad at you. That video is an embarrassment”, you chuckled.
“So you really....--
Before he can finish, you ran towards the bus station and as if it was timed, the bus arrived. You waved him goodbye and entered the bus.
“See you tomorrow!”, you shouted.
Whew! Good thing, the bus came in time.
The next morning, you were on the hallway, going to your room when you felt an arm on your shoulders. It’s Seongwoo, with a smirk on his face.
This guy... Just because I forgave him yesterday, he’s starting already.
You pushed his arm away and did some karate stance.
“Are you starting again?!”
You laughed and grabbed your arm. He again rested his arm on your shoulders.
“I’m not but I’m definitely starting something today.”
You looked puzzled.
“Let’s meet at Mistea Cafe later”, he told you.
“Huh? Why?”
“Let’s go on a date.”
You looked at him with a blush on your face. You pushed him away and ran. Of course, typical Seongwoo ran after you and asked you plenty of times to agree.
You agreed. ;)
Note: I’m so sorry for posting this sooo late. I should have post it on April 1st but I got too busy at work and failed to finish it on time. I have plenty of drafts so hopefully, I can finish all of them and I can share them to you. Enjoy reading!

Though you had initially wished for the two months to end as quickly as possible, now that they were just about up, you wanted quite the opposite. This place had become a haven for you, very different from your regular office, and you weren't quite ready to leave this workspace yet. Honestly, when you first arrived, you thought that you were going to be miserable. You were sure that, much like your other office, people here would also flock to Seongwu, due to his outgoing personality and looks. You thought they would ignore.
But they didn't. On your first day there, they were equally excited to have both of you there. They told you about how their last tools programmer had left them in a bit of a lurch, and they were glad that your team's project was far enough along that they could borrow you both for a bit. They walked you through what they needed, and you were to work with Seongwu on a plan of how best to tackle it all before the end of two months. And, even though Seongwu was there with you the whole time, they never treated you differently. This was how you thought that work was supposed to be, and you were glad this place lived up to that.
Speaking of Seongwu, being around him on the daily, even living with him, hadn't been that bad. It was actually quite bearable. Of course, at first, the two of you had danced around each other, trying not to step on the other's toes with your new living arrangement. The company put you up in a small apartment complex near the work site. This made it easy to walk to and from work, saving you both the awkward car rides. It was quaint, the only downside was that the small studio apartment lacked room for two beds further than three feet apart. This always put the two of you near one another. It took some time to adjust to having another person in your living space. Small things like nightly routines and morning routines had been a bit rough at first. But after the first week, you both learned how to steer clear of each other. Hell, you even went so far as to leave for the office at different times.
Yet, some time in the middle of your second week rooming together, things began to change. It had started when Seongwu asked if you wanted to go and get coffee with him before heading off to work. You were exhausted and needed your coffee that day to keep yourself going, so you didn't decline his offer. And that was how you started spending more time with him. You would go to get coffee together on most days. Coffee became lunch, and soon, you were even spending your evenings at home together. No longer did you ignore each other, typing away on your laptops. You'd plan dinners together, catch up on shows that you both watched.
Though you had been apprehensive at first, thinking that he was just doing this to get more dirt on you, you soon realized it wasn't the case. He actually wanted your company. Slowly, you learned more about Seongwu, though not to the point of knowing his entire life story. You did learn of his hobbies though, what he did on weekends. He learned the same about you. Within a couple of weeks, you were speaking comfortably with each other, something that never would have happened at your office back home. You would ask each other for advice, for suggestions, and having this newfound comradery with him was something you didn't want to leave behind.
The frequency in which you spoke of Seongwu to Jongin didn't go unnoticed. The male had teased you that your crush was back in full swing, and you had vehemently denied it... at first. Yet, as he started to pick out how this was the age-old, 'falling in love with your enemy' trope, you had a hard time believing that it wasn't true. You had found Seongwu handsome from the beginning. Even when he had been picking on you, you tried to find the good in him. Now that he was so kind to you, you felt those feelings come back. However, you knew that a change like this wasn't enough to really show he was different. And... well, he was out of your league. Girls like Yena were more his speed.
On a whim, you tried to drop some hints here and there to gauge his interest towards you. He seemed to humor you, but it wasn't anything out of the ordinary. You felt like that was all there was to say on the matter. You may have liked him, but there didn't seem to be any signals on his end.
Still, this didn't stop you from noticing things about him, from falling for him more. You found his little quirks cute. Like the way, he would furiously blink when he was confused or trying to focus on something. Or the way his tongue would slip past his lips when he was buried in concentration. The way he'd smile at you when you came back with his mid-day coffee. They were little things, and as a girl that lived mostly through dramas and manga, they made your heart flutter.
On your last day, the office threw a party for the two of you. They wanted to send you off with a massive celebration... as well as an excuse to drink. The party had started off at the office but moved to a nearby restaurant when the team got hungry and needed something to eat. You were seated across from Seongwu, who was having a great time chatting with your coworkers. You did much the same, your eyes making contact periodically with Seongwu. And halfway through the night, with more than enough alcohol in you, you realized something. When the two of you left in the morning, when you headed back to your actual jobs, the chances of Seongwu treating you as an equal... felt low. Once he was in a place where people loved him, respected him more than you, he'd probably just go back to treating you terribly.
The thought was fleeting, but it had always been in the back of your mind, now only brought to the forefront thanks to some alcohol. You knew that a significant change like the one between the two of you wasn't meant to last, but you also didn't want to think that Seongwu was putting on an act either.  Still, even in telling yourself that, you started to doubt this friendship you had with him. It made you uneasy that night, and you had never wanted sleep to last for longer than you did that night.
The pair of you woke up at a decent hour the next morning, though alcohol and a slight hangover definitely made mobilizing stressful that morning. You were now in the car, on your way back, but Seongwu couldn't quite shake how eerily quiet you had been. You had been pretty open with him during your time together. You even went so far as to read to him memes or stupid little posts you found online. But on your way home from the party last night, you had been a bit closed off. He figured that you were just a bit too tipsy, leading to the lack of conversation, but now that the only thing that filled the void between you was the music from his playlist, he knew something was up. At first, Seongwu wanted to give you time, time to open up to him yourself, but the silence was excruciating, so he spoke first.
"So, are you going to tell me what's wrong, or do I have to weasel it out of you?" Seongwu stated, eyes momentarily looking at you while the two of you sat at a red light. Your body stiffened slightly, surprised by his sudden declaration. In the time that you had spent together, he had learned to read you like an open book, and it was now clear as day to him that something was indeed wrong.
"N-nothing-" you started, but when you saw the pointed look he gave you, you knew that Seongwu didn't believe you. Were you that easy to decipher now? You knew that you had significantly let your guard down around him, but did he know that much already? And if he did, was there any point in hiding it? Probably not. "You... you're going to find it silly..."
"Why don't you try me. We've lived together for two months now. I think I know when something is silly versus when it's a real concern to you. I promise, I won't make fun of you," Seongwu vowed, giving you a smile in hopes that you would reveal to him what was bothering you. His eyes were back on the road as he drove, but you knew he was listening, and gently you bit your lip.
For a moment, you had considered lying to Seongwu, saying that there was something up in your friendship with Jongin, but you had a feeling he would see right through that. Seongwu was extremely smart, his outward appearance aside. He would see right through it. And part of you thought, maybe if you told him what bothered you, if you were honest, perhaps the two of you could officially clear the air. Maybe you were worrying about nothing after all.
"Are we... are we going to go back to the way things were when we return to work?" you asked quietly, eyes trained on your lap. Though you wanted to clear everything up, you couldn't bring yourself to look at him.
"What do you mean?" he inquired, confusion evident in his voice.
"Seongwu, you've been extremely kind to me throughout this entire trip. We got to know each other, we spent a lot of time together. But, even I know that people's relationships don't change this quickly," you started, finding it within yourself to explain the situation fully. "We're adults after all. We can't just go from hating each other to being the best of friends in only two months. I couldn't really be a person that you would be interested in being around for the long term. You can tell me that, you know. I'll understand."
Seongwu refrained from showing any type of emotion on his face. But it wasn't because he felt like he was caught in an act. But instead, he felt guilty. He had a feeling that you might have thought he had ill intentions this entire time. He supposed it was the time that he was straight with you as well. "Can I be honest with you?" he asked.
"I've got nowhere to go, Seongwu. I'm stuck in this car with you for the next five hours. If you've got something to say, this may be the best time to do so." Your words came off as a joke, but you weren't wrong. Where could you go?
The smallest smile formed on Seongwu's lips, knowing that he now had the floor, and he had to do his best to be clear, concise, and not screw this up. "When I first heard from my lead that my transfer was going through, I was beyond excited. I liked my team a lot, and they were amicable people, but many of them were set in their ways. Even if there were a solution for what they were working on, they would often choose the traditional way, the long form of doing it to ensure accuracy. This isn't bad as long as time allows for it, but it didn't leave me with much of a job. I wasn't innovative. Conversely, I had heard of some of the innovative techniques that you were applying in your project, and since it was fairly new, I thought it could be a place for me to also make my mark, do something I would be proud of."
"I had asked a lot of people on my team about you, people that had worked with you in the past, and they couldn't stop singing their praises about how kind and fair you were. And after I met you, you definitely lived up to those expectations," he said with a chuckle. "You were knowledgable in the few times we talked, and I was looking forward to working with you. However, I was overeager to show the team what I could do, and I was also overeager to fit in."
Seongwu let out a gentle sigh before he continued. "I spent a lot of time talking to some of the people that had some pull, and they really liked my ideas. I was excited, but when I heard them talk about how you hadn't started implementing these things, listening to them wonder what you were working on instead, it struck a chord with me. I thought it didn't sound right, but the more they spoke about it, the more I believed it. I didn't know about the social climate of the team. I didn't realize that everyone, though they worked well together, was also rather cliquey."
"When those teammates spoke badly of you, I took it to be a known fact. I didn't think it was just because they were upset with you for not going out with them. Or that they had said all of those terrible things to you. So I took on teasing you like they teased you, thinking that it was familiar. I didn't know about those other things. I should have known my words were too much, but I got to the point where I couldn't stop. We became hostile towards each other, and I didn't mean for that to happen," he admitted, seemingly uncomfortable now.
"So, when we were supposed to work together off-site, I couldn't help but be a bit worried. What if you didn't pull your weight? Or what if we didn't give a good impression because we were too busy arguing? But then, I saw you working with everyone. I saw you doing your job in the ways that everyone said you hadn't demonstrated. The more I saw this side of you, the more I realized I was wrongly informed. I treated you poorly when I should have reassessed our situation at our office. So I made an effort to make it up to you while we were here. I know it doesn't make up for all of that time I was an ass to you. I know I'm a jerk, but I do want to work with you. Though, after hearing this, you probably just think I'm crazy," he said with a dry chuckle.
Your brain did its best to follow Seongwu's thinking. He was definitely in the wrong, in your opinion, but you also knew where he was coming from. Your team did have a lot of cliques. Everyone was often fighting for the limited hiring resources, and that didn't necessarily mean everyone was your friend, unfortunately. Seongwu had tried to navigate that social climate in the best way he could. He chose the simplest route so you couldn't blame him. It did hurt to know that they thought those things of you, and that, for a bit, so did Seongwu. "I don't think you're crazy. I understand what you were thinking..."
"You know you can just call me an asshole, right? I know you've done so before. I've heard you," he teased gently. "Truly though, I am sorry for the way I treated you. It was wrong of me."
"I don't think you deserve that in this case," you told him. "I do accept your apology to a degree, but it's a lot to take in at once."
"And I understand that. So it's okay if you end up not accepting my apology at all after you work through all of the information I just told you. But, there's also a bit more..."
"There's more? Seongwu, if you keep spilling your guts to me like this, I think we'll need an official counseling session," you shot back, hearing him chuckle. You knew that he was glad that you could still make a joke after all of that. He knew you were trying.
"I like you."
"I know. You've been trying to make up for all of that these last two months. We can't be instant friends or something, but we can try working it out."
"No, I actually like you. As in I have feelings for you. I realized I did when I got upset by how much you were talking to Jongin during our off-site work. I got jealous," Seongwu confessed. "Look, don't make this awkward okay. I know you feel the same. I got the hints... I just, I didn't know how you'd react after finding out why I've been treating you so terribly..."
So your hints weren't ignored after all. "You're the one that made it awkward confessing to me like this, Seongwu. I don't think I know how to respond to that right now."
"And you don't have to. I wanted you to know because I wanted to be honest with you about everything that's been going on between us. Even if I'm not smooth about it. Even if it is awkward, I just needed you to know. Take some time to think about it, alright? You don't need to make up your mind right now," he reassured you. He saw you gently nod as the conversation slowly came to an end...
========
"So, I noticed that some of your old friends don't stop by anymore," you pointed out as you finished typing up one of your task summaries before closing it out. "Not only that, but Yena has been coming to me for all of her tools questions. What did you do, Ong Seongwu?" you teased turning around in your chair to look at the male next to you.
He chuckled, the action as attractive as ever, as he looked up from his own keyboard. "Honestly, I think part of the problem is that I started dating you five months ago, but I wouldn't say that too loudly. Some people might think that I'm calling them out," he replied, getting one of your smaller plushies lightly thrown at his arm.
After that car ride back, where the two of you had thrown everything out in the open, things had gotten a bit awkward. Seongwu continued to be kind towards you, much to the confusion of all of his friends, and you were just... uneasy. There was suddenly a lot of attention to you, and you weren't sure if you liked that.
There was one thing that you both noticed when you got back, however. You missed each other's company. You had spent so much time together for those two months you were away, to suddenly not be stuck to each other, to not be living together, it felt weird. You were the first one to bring this up with Seongwu, and though you thought that he might reject the idea of hanging out again, he didn't. The more time you spent together, the more apparent that it became that it was more than just each other's company that you enjoyed. And though it was awkward, as everything between the two of you seemed to be, you started dating.
"Don't blame this on me, mister. You brought this on yourself," you retorted.
"Maybe I did. But you know what I know is your fault?" Seongwu asked, watching as you gave him a quizzical look. Your boyfriend leaned down and dramatically pointed to the top of his head. "The bump that I got when you threw that plushie at my head the first time. It was there for days! I accept apologies in the form of kisses, by the way."
You scoffed. "First of all, that was almost eight months ago. Second of all, it was a plushie, you silly man. It isn't going to leave a mark. And if I'm to be honest, you deserved it back then!"
Seongwu lifted his head, the most massive pout forming on his lips. "I did not deserve it!"
"You did! Do I have to remind you how much of an ass you were?"
"You don't! I made up for that. Now kiss me and apologize for this!"
"I will not!"
The pout on Seongwu's lips only threatened to grow as he looked at you, knowing that you couldn't resist his puppy dog eyes. But when it seemed like it wasn't going to work, he was about to protest, only to have you lean in and give him a quick peck on the lips, leaving him speechless. Your relationship wasn't like the ones that came out of the dramas you watched or the manga you read, but in a way, you found the person that was best suited for you...

You blinked a couple of times, wondering if you had heard Seongwoo correctly.
He was waiting for your response, and sighed when you didn’t answer. “Y/N?”
“Did, did I hear you correctly?”
With a simple nod, Seongwoo grinned at you. “Would you date me, please?”
“But, this would be really stupid. No one would believe we’d be dating,” you retorted, blinking back the emotions from receiving his offer not once now, but twice. You were soon shaking your head incredulously. “Mad, you’ve gone mad.”
“I have,” he agreed earnestly, leaning over the bench towards you. It made you slightly apprehensive to be in close proximity after such a request. He then sighed. “But it’s the only way I can get Hanjoo back. I just need to get her sufficiently jealous, and then she’ll come running back, knowing we belong together. Please Y/N, there’s no other girl I can ask this of. Besides, you said you wanted to get the attention of Daniel, and there’s no easier way than showing that you’re capable of being more than a friend, than dating someone in front of him.”
“Ong,” you started, shaking your head at your childhood friend. “We’ve known each other for years. If we were to have hooked up, it would have happened by now.”
“Many friends turn into lovers.” He grinned. “You helped ease my broken heart and I was enamoured that the most beautiful woman was under my nose all this time. It’s plausible, as long as we play all the right cards, Y/N.”
You sighed, he had you there. As much as it made sense, you were hesitant. Fake relationships always had the possibility of turning messy, or worse, falling in love. You stared at the man across from you and cringed. You had never thought he was your kind of attractive once in life. He was just the dorky kid who could fold his ears down that lived next door.
And now he was asking you to be his girlfriend, a fake one of course.
Seongwoo leaned in closer, battering his lashes at you dramatically. “Please help me?”
“Fine.”
Seongwoo cheered before scooting closer to you and you visibly flinched at his body pressing into yours. It wasn’t like he hadn’t ever been this close before, you were good friends after all. But given the situation, it had your eyes nearly bouncing out of your head as his arm came to rest over your shoulders. “Are you mad?! People can see you!”
“Y/N, I want people to see this,” he said matter of factly, shooting you an expectant look. “We’re dating, remember?”
You weren’t certain this was the best idea, but there was little room to turn back now.
Tumblr media
Over the next month your relationship was well established within your circles at university. The funniest thing was that no one seemed bothered by it, of course Hanjoo being the exception. Everyone else believed you had actually fallen in love after all this time of being neighbours.
And they should with how much effort you had both put in creating the same stories, choosing what kind of skinship to exhibit and how fast the relationship was progressing. At first you had been hesitant to listen to Seongwoo about the physical aspects needed to make this look real. You hadn’t ever thought of being with him, and now he was expecting you to kiss him? It was all too much and he had spent an entire week convincing you, even suggesting you schedule in a practice night, where you both did just that. Now you were a pro at reaching for his lips, feeling the softness of them in every kiss.
You didn’t want to admit that it was kind of a perk.
And your little plan was working. Hanjoo was worked up watching you until she’d had enough, either ignoring you both and making it entirely obvious that she wasn’t happy about your relationship, or approaching Seongwoo when you weren’t at his side, smiling up at him and touching his lower arm. You were hopeful this would all be over soon and you could move on with Daniel.
You had been spending a lot of time with Seongwoo’s other friend, partially because Seongwoo would purposely invite Daniel out with you to group events, and because you were taking the same English paper this semester. It was easy to talk to him now, and you honestly believed it was because of the confidence you felt from pulling off this fake relationship so well. It had given you the momentum to express yourself a little more than the reserved girl who sat in the shadows before.
You had to admit, Seongwoo was helping you a lot these days.
After another two months of fake dating, Hanjoo was back to messaging Seongwoo daily. And whenever she saw him on campus, she was no longer afraid to approach you both, her niceties making you feel irked every time, especially when her hand reached to touch Seongwoo. In the past it hadn’t bothered you at all, but then again that was back before the make out sessions had begun.
You weren’t exactly sure when things started to change for you. Perhaps it was when Seongwoo bought you a novel you had been wanting for awhile, or when he told you how much your glasses really made your eyes the most captivating pair he’d ever seen. And then when you’d be lazing around at his house planning what to do next, touching and kissing just seemed natural now. Neither of you questioned it but you really should have.
When he first really kissed you, pinning you to his bed and unleashing pent up passion from obviously not getting enough lately, you had been stunned, appreciative and welcoming of such attention. No one had ever kissed you like that, and when he did it again, you didn’t hesitate to meet his fevered kisses with your own. Soon it was you initiating them, and he was just as obliging. You had crossed the lines of this fake relationship with very real progression.
So it made sense you didn’t like Hanjoo touching him now. He was yours; you had been dating Seongwoo for the past three months. Except you knew deep down, Seongwoo was still invested in her. He would always exclaim when she’d like his social media posts, or tell you about how she had yanked him into an empty classroom to talk. He didn’t seem to catch the fall in your expression, or the hurt in your eyes the longer he gushed about these meetings.
And you were too dumbfounded to tell him how much it hurt to hear such things. After all, in his eyes you were both only faking this. You wondered how he was able to do such a good job at separating the feelings, because you weren’t anymore.
It’s why you decided to break up.
“What did you just say?” Seongwoo asked softly, dropping the phone he had been smiling down at. His dark eyes grew wide and he shook his head rapidly. “No, we can’t break up! I don’t want to!”
“Seongwoo, we’ve been at this for over three months now. You clearly have Hanjoo’s interest; just tell her you couldn’t handle being with me anymore when you still love her.”
It hurt to say it and your heart was breaking, but you knew if you didn’t separate yourself now from all of this, it would hurt too much later on.
“No, I can’t leave you yet!” He was up off your bed now, running a frazzled hand through his hair. “I can’t leave you.”
“This is fake, Seongwoo,” you reminded him and he blinked a couple of times at your reiteration of your agreement, which fuelled some stupid sense of optimism in the pit of your stomach. You really didn’t need to be reading his expression right now in hopes you could be just like every movie out there that started with a fake relationship and fall endlessly in love. This wasn’t a fictional world, it was real life. Nothing was ever that simple for you.
“Y/N, we need to continue. We can’t be over yet.”
“Why not? I’m done pretending to be yours, when I could actually be in a loving relationship right now, Ong.”
His eyebrow hitched up then, and he jumped back on the bed, his lips hovering around yours. “What’s not loving about what we have, hm?”
“You’re kidding, right?!”
He shook his head and placed a chaste kiss on your lips. Pulling back, he smirked at how flustered you appeared. “I’m pretty sure you’ve been enjoying this as much as I have been.”
He had you there, and he knew it. More kisses followed the first, and soon you were underneath him, his hands slipping under your shirt and running over the skin just under your bra. He was too good at this, and your mind was swimming with desire. Finally he pulled back, panting a little and brushed the hair out of your face. “One more month, then I promise if Hanjoo and I still aren’t together then, we’ll break up and I’ll let you date someone properly. Who knows maybe we’ll fall in love and not need anyone else either?”
You had been stupid to believe that line, kissing him back and accepting his deal far too easily.
Tumblr media
A month went by, and then another, and soon you were up to your sixth month together. Somehow Seongwoo had you addicted to his promises, none of them coming true but each time you’d believe the next one would be, and he’d finally set you free. You had lost all willpower of your own to say it was done and dusted, you were too in love with him now. Everything about him suited you. He let you have your alone time when you needed it, or would smother you in kisses and cuddles when you were particularly needy. Your dates were more complex, now attending things together that you wouldn’t have as a fake lover. And you knew him so well that whenever things were hard for him with school you could appease him, making him laugh again in an instant. You were long gone down this rabbit hole and there was no exit in sight, because he had you completely captivated. And it was because you both worked so well together.
You had hoped that because you had lasted so long, Hanjoo’s attention would wane. If Seongwoo wasn’t ready to give up yet, then perhaps the other party involved would, and you all but were personally at her side encouraging this. Once she moved on for good, Seongwoo would only have you, and realise his saying all those months ago of having the best woman all along would come true.
It was juvenile, but you were desperate to keep him as yours. You had long forgotten your crush on Daniel, Seongwoo’s lips and sweet nothings blinding you to any other guy out there. He was your everything, and you couldn’t believe you had wasted so many years just being his friend. You yearned to have come first, to have taken his heart long before Hanjoo had.
And with the graces of God, there was a fleeting moment when you actually tasted this. Hanjoo had agreed to a date with an older man, sending Seongwoo’s temper through the roof and your elation just as high. She was finally moving on.
Of course this meant Seongwoo was needier, but your lips were up for the job, and he seemed to settle with your avid attention. For two weeks, you felt the transition into this being just you and him for the first time. He was more attentive to you, wanting to be with you all the time, and even sleeping over a couple of times.
But it was short lived when you went to the party your year was hosting on campus. Hanjoo had come with her new beau, and was not holding back in showering him in affections, Seongwoo downing shot after shot until his neck was red and you could tell he was drunk. You hadn’t drunk as much, but you still felt the affect of the alcohol in your body, stumbling a little as you helped Seongwoo back to his home.
“I don’t want to be alone tonight, Y/N,” he murmured as you went to leave after placing him on his bed and you hesitated, you could see the lust in his eyes forming as he looked at you from under his drooping eyelids. He licked at his lips. “God you’re gorgeous, you know that? I’m glad we started this, because I never knew you were this beautiful back then.”
“That’s the alcohol talking,” you confirmed and he shook his head, reaching for the lower part of your thigh as you stood beside him and ran his hand up and down your bare leg.
“No, I’ve known this for awhile. Fuck, why are you messing around with me, I don’t deserve you, Y/N. You’re so gorgeous.”
“Okay, I’m going before we do something we end up regretting.”
He sat up then, gazing up at you with such intensity it erupted flutters into your stomach. “What if we don’t regret it? What if I want you more than anything right now? No, I’ve wanted this for months now. I just didn’t want to hurt you, but now I know, I want to love you.”
“L-love?” It wasn’t uncommon in company for Seongwoo to say he loved you; it was all part of the act. But behind closed doors he had no need to. And with the look in his eyes right now, you believed he meant it.
You were in his arms in an instant then, kissing him with such demand that it knocked him back down on his bed, his hands finding the hem of your dress and started yanking it up. You helped him by removing it and finished unbuttoning his shirt, leaving a trail of kisses all over his upper chest. This had him groaning and grinding up into you, his hands on his belt buckle and shedding himself of his clothing altogether, whilst your bra and panties soon joined them.
He eyed you for a moment and you held your breath, the way he looked at you made you feel on fire. He shook his head softly, smiling seductively a moment later. “This was under all those clothes? Jesus Y/N.”
“Please tell me you have protection,” you breathed and he fumbled in the drawer of his nightstand, producing a foiled package and grinning up at you.
It wasn’t long until he was entering you, neither of you having the patience to wait any longer to be completely together. Your moans elicited his groans, and soon you were both panting from the exertion of your love making, his hands exploring every inch of you as you rode him into ecstasy. When you collapsed on top of him, Seongwoo kissed the top of your head, bringing you closer to him. “I love you.”
“I love you too, Seongwoo.”
You felt euphoric for the next two weeks, several other love making sessions happening to further cement your good mood. But it was stolen from you far too quickly, the moment Hanjoo turned up on Seongwoo’s doorstep. You had been over studying with him when he swore at a message he received on his phone, his eyes darting around the room in haste.
“What’s wrong?”
“Hanjoo’s here!”
“So tell her to leave?” you replied, watching him carefully. He hadn’t mentioned her once since you had uttered those three magical words to each other, and Seongwoo had honestly seemed free from the traps of his old flame. It made no sense to you as to why he was acting like this anymore.
He glanced distractedly at you and then his eyes widened. “You need to not be here!”
“I’m your girlfriend, I have every right to be here, Ong Seongwoo.”
“Please, just let me deal with this and then I’ll come to yours and we’ll be fine. I need to end this, once and for all.”
“You’re really going to?” He nodded and you got up, grabbing your things, stretching up to kiss him.
“I won’t be long,” he urged and you nodded, heading out the back door of his family home and going over to your own.
An hour went by and you tried not to watch from the window that faced his to see what was going on. Another two and you could see the light was still on in his room, and people moving in there. You were growing tired and a little frustrated. He wasn’t answering your texts, and soon the light went out.
You stood there wondering what that meant. Was he ushering her outside and then coming over? You waited like a fool for another twenty minutes and then it dawned on you.
He wasn’t coming.
Tumblr media
The tumultuous end to your love was bitter. It was cruel and you were at fault for believing him. You knew when Seongwoo turned up on your doorstep the next day he hadn’t slept alone. You could see it in his eyes, the guilt he held for what sinful acts he had gotten up to. You slammed the door shut in his face, not wanting to hear what excuse he could give you. There wasn’t anything that would ease your heart from it.
As you struggled with the forgotten chapter of your own love story, Hanjoo and Seongwoo soon were picking back up where they left theirs. It wasn’t as open as your own relationship had appeared to others, but you knew him so well know that you could tell. The way Seongwoo looked at her was the way you had looked at him, and when they first kissed on campus it was when your world truly broke. You wanted to quit and move to another country. You were ashamed, feeling completely used and destroyed by someone who you had trusted far too easily. You decided you didn’t know Seongwoo at all.
If you hadn’t of been so blind, you would have seen the signs more easily. The way he never gave Hanjoo up. The way he was still checking in on her months after their break-up. The fact that their connection had never ended even though there was no physical signs. It was all there and you had been a stupid fool to think you could sway him to think of you the way he did Park Hanjoo.
The year ended and you took a semester off, unable to cope with seeing them in your face smiling whilst you were crying on the inside. Then you started looking at other universities, convincing your parents you were being bullied and wanted a new start. They believed it and you were soon packing up to leave the only home you had known.
It was too close to Seongwoo’s and you couldn’t cope living so near to the person you allowed to break you.
You were outside throwing trash in the bin, hesitating over the things you had been given by Seongwoo. They had been in a box under your bed all this time, and clearing out your room meant taking out what you didn’t need anymore. When you returned from university you hoped to start a new life and keeping this wouldn’t help you at all.
You felt eyes on you after awhile and glanced up, letting your hardening gaze drop immediately. Seongwoo hadn’t really spoken to you since the first week of his apparent getting back with Hanjoo, and you never let him get more than a few words in before you were running away from him. Soon he gave up altogether. It was easier for you both to just avoid each other. You willed for him to go away, there was no need to change the routine of life now.
“Hey, uh, I heard you’re changing schools?”
You didn’t answer him, too preoccupied on breathing properly and not letting the tears fall from your eyes like they wanted to. Seongwoo sighed heavily and you could see out of your peripheral that he was moving his hands about awkwardly. “We should have never done what we did. I’m sorry I asked you to be my girlfriend, and-”
You dumped the box of stuff quickly into the trash, glaring up at Seongwoo a moment later. “It’s too late to apologise. But don’t worry; it was my fault for being an idiot who believed your lies.”
“I wasn’t lying, Y/N. I really wasn’t. I fucked up, and I fell for you too.”
“Just not enough,” you concluded and he didn’t respond.
“I miss you.”
“You have no right to. We’re not friends, we’re nothing now.”
It hurt you both to hear that, and you knew it.
“Right, nothing. Of course. Y/N, I hope your new school treats you well.”
“Don’t worry; I won’t have anyone to convince me to date them there.”
“Can you stop being bitter for just a-”
“I can’t,” you admitted, letting the tears fall. “Seongwoo, it’s best that you just focus on what you have. I need to leave before I don’t have anything left.”
“What does that even mean?!” he exclaimed, his own emotions rising. “Listen, Y/N-”
“I’m leaving now. I hope if we ever cross paths in the future, you look the other way. Goodbye Ong Seongwoo.”
You could hear his crying behind you as you walked away, and your own overwhelmed you as soon as you shut the door, sinking down to the ground and wishing you never would see him again.
Tumblr media
Of course your parents living side by side meant your wish was never fully granted. And you had done well enough to make sure you wouldn’t visit on holidays when you knew Seongwoo would be home. You had been alerted from social media updates from mutual friends that Seongwoo and Hanjoo hadn’t lasted long after you left, Seongwoo getting a taste of what betrayal felt like. It didn’t bring you any comfort though, it hurt to be the receiver of such pain, and even if you hated him for what he did to you, it didn’t mean you wanted him to suffer. Even after trying to deal with your feelings, you had once loved him endlessly. It would be wrong to want him to feel pain you had.
But it didn’t mean you wanted to run into his arms either. There was a small part of you that wouldn’t mind it, but you weren’t that feeble girl you once were. You had gained a degree, further life experiences, and wisdom over the past few years. Running back to Seongwoo would destroy how hard you had worked. You couldn’t trust in him to hold onto you anyway.
It was hard though. The times you did cross paths weren’t as awkward as you wanted them to remain. Sometimes you’d even share a smile or two. And once you even rode the subway side by side after work. But it never went further than that, both of you far too hesitant to spiral away from whatever was building between you.
It couldn’t be allowed to go any further than this, but you didn’t want it to go back to nothing either. It was a horrible limbo, one that sometimes kept you up at night, much like the distant memories of how his kisses tasted or they way he spoke lovingly into your ear.
Love was complicated and you craved it, but after the heartache you endured you couldn’t reach for it. And so whilst everyone else married around you, your relationship status remained single. It annoyed your family, but your level of trust in love was gone.
Sometimes you liked to imagine what it would be like if you had still remained together. You’d envision the bobbing of little heads running around your home and maybe a dog playing with them too. A kiss on your forehead as he arrived home from work and lots of laughter. Putting the kids to bed together and then curling up in each other until exhaustion hit and a new day would arrive. It was torturous, but you enjoyed these images far too much.
Some days you were certain you saw a similar gaze in Seongwoo’s that made you know he thought about it too. You never did anything about it though, the fear of it being another fake world tearing down any hope you had conjured up momentarily.
Maybe one day you’d find the courage to step forward. You hoped it would be with someone else. But you knew your heart craved him, and whenever you closed your eyes to sleep it was always Seongwoo who greeted you there. At least in your dreams he loved you as much as you did him.
Dreams were all you could have.

They smell floral. Heady. Familiar. It’s jammy sweetness, and rich as wine.
He’s a freshly laundered linen, clean bedsheets, and cotton woods type of guy. His mother always called him a shower on a summer’s night.
Not this. Whatever this was. It rubbed him in all the wrong ways. Grated at his nerves, and messed with his senses terribly. But he couldn’t get enough. Can’t get enough.
He knows the scent. But from where?

a/n: vampire ong for my soulmate/supernatural verse. can be read as standalone; but skimming daniel’s for context is recommended. dubious consent-ish. mildy mature (it’s all… implied).
More than hunger, what he feels is almost akin to need… and hunger. There’s not really an accurate way to describe it. Apart from the fact that there was a yearning separating it from being a physical desire.
He thinks it’s his soul’s own way of desperately missing a part of him. The burning inside is painfully reminiscent of sunlight exposure. Sending signal for him to find them while his body moves on its own. Dazed. And his mind is dulled by the toll of daylight.
Whoever he’s searching for... they feel like a lullaby even when he’s sleeping.
It’s opulent and rich in an entirely opposite way to the plush leather and carpets that he trudges through with closed lids. Carnal in the barest sense of the word.
Perhaps in the day it would be play out differently. Yet, in his drunken state there is nothing standing in his way to blindly follow.
Close enough to make out her form - she smells creamier in person, less pungent and charring. Instead of permeating through the still night air, she envelops the whole area. He registers it as a floral note - something his mother would plant in the gardens, night blooming and vining along walls, entwining and protecting the grounds.
Seeing her wrapped tightly, unmoving, he’d probably be angry in the morning if he remembers this… To think that while he’s suffering night after night, she’s resting calmly without worry.
Each stride he takes, his hand lifts a bit more. Reaching for her. Seongwu kneels at the side of the low bed as he takes in the feel of being surrounded by the addictive thickness in the air – pressure pushing against his chest with each breath.
Murmuring intangible words on soft fragrant skin, muskier and saltier than the blood running warm underneath, he rolls a strand of hair along the pads of his fingers. He let it wrap around his hand, enjoying the feel of dark strands gliding from his hold.
It’d be so easy.
He moved closer. There was no flinching at his touch as she chose to inch closer with closed eyes and wet lashes. No movement to wake, as he nuzzles at the crook of her neck, the pulse beating in steady staccato.
It’s only when she reaches for him, hands in wanton search for that cool touch under the thick covers, clutching at the hand that left too fleetingly - that he blinks. Eyes wide open as they drink in alien surroundings, taking in the foreign touch and flinching away in a flurry of lost embarrassment.
‘What am I doing?’
Shutting the translated book, Seongwu stretched his arms up in attempt to lessen the ache beginning to develop at the back of his shoulders. His sleeping patterns these days seemed to have a mind of its own, so he’d turned to reading to try and take his mind off things.
One book led to another, and before long, he’d ploughed through all the vampire fiction available in the school library, a part of the non-magical studies corner.
It had been amusing at first when Daniel suggested the idea - ‘don’t you want to know what the humans think of you?’- and being a lover of books and poetry, a no brainer as a way to take his mind off things.
But soon, he found himself falling deep into the rabbit hole and wondering when vampire fiction had begun to stray further and further from the truth.
Dracula started the craze; and it was admittedly truthful – at least, it was at the time it was written – though a little too dark for his taste personally, and he’d side-eyed Minhyun for having it readily available in their room.
Interview with a Vampire was of his parent’s generation. Romantic at heart, and so unapologetically gothic. Yet, it wasn’t until the recent years that he learned to appreciate this gem.
Because, contrary to popular belief, vampires did age (at least… up until a certain point, at which, growth was drastically abated); and being a child of the 90s, he grew up at the cusp of Buffy the Vampire Slayer ending, with a new trump on the scene.
Twilight. That was the commercial poster success of vampire fiction for kids his age.
Sparkly creatures. As if a fairy had cut off its wings and been fed the same bloody diet. He wondered how Yoonmi-ssaem would feel about letting him babysit her first-born. A sanguivorous diet may not be all that bad… Kids needed a lot of protein.
While much of what was known about them was subject to the seasoning of human authors, Seongwu couldn’t understand how little was accurate when the humans had been so alarmingly accurate in the olden days.
Was it due to the rise of more magical species of similar abilities misleading them? The lack of clear governance between the realms? Or precisely because there was so much on them – both fact and fiction – that the truth had become lost somewhere in the middle?
The boy was just grateful that the successful franchises always left one thing untouched – his race was consistently gorgeous.
Sinfully good-looking night dwellers. Of course, it was a marketing technique to make money. He’s seen his share of ugly uncles. But it doesn’t mean that the humans needed to know.
Tilting his head to the side in attempt to relieve the strain from another sleepless night, he let his gaze fall to the side, dark lashes catching the last remnants of sunlight reflected off the window.
He knew his instincts would never lie to him. Not when the sun was drowning at dusk.
Seongwu sighed.
“Just come out.” Eyes downcast, tired and lax figure making him seem as if he’s napping, if not for his words. Lips curling into a smirk as he confirms earlier suspicions. “I can smell you.”
His senses were dimmed during the day, his sight limited to a few meters in front, and his hearing annoyingly selective, worse of all – his sense of taste and smell – dulled to near naught – barely in existence. But at night… Everything he gives up for comes back at once.
Vampires were the perfect example of magical energy exchange – as with all energy, nothing ever lost. Only transferred and exchanged. And always in balance. Day and Night. Good and Evil. Yin and Yang.
Taking off his glasses, Seongwu rubbed his temples in mock annoyance when he hears the sharp intake of breath, but no movement. Still frozen at the same spot. He’d wanted to sound hostile, dubious, but he’s not quite sure it’s worked given how he can’t sense any fear. Something about the hidden figure is affecting him.
They smell floral. Heady. Familiar. It’s jammy sweetness, and rich as wine. All at once.
You held your breath. It’s obvious that there was no point hiding, but the fluorescent lights should mean that - unless you were a step too slow – he shouldn’t have seen you.
Turning to peek at the vampire, he didn’t seem angry or annoyed. But he did seem curious as to why you were currently hiding - if the tilt of his head your way was anything to go by.
It’d be a lie to say that you hadn’t been looking at him. Mind embarrassingly blank at the sight of him. Given how often you see him, you really shouldn’t be affected, but you still are.
Seongwu’s handsome, and his tall body is all lean muscle and taut lines, but from where you were, you couldn’t help but notice how small he manages to make himself, hunched over whatever he’s focused on. The way he’s able to put all his focus on something.
And he looks different too. Never have you seen Seongwu – neat, put-together, pretty-much-royalty, comma haired, and tight-uniform-immaculately-in-place-everyday-Seongwu look like this. Hair slightly mussed up from the way his hands have been threading through it, playing with the dark un-styled strands, his lips glistening a little - wet from absent-minded nibbling – hiding his fangs.
Pivoting around so that your back was no longer leant against the bookshelf – you straightened the papers in hand and walked to where he sat. Printer-warmed sheets now stale to the touch.
Knees buckling slightly - walking on such loosely tufted wool carpeting after having stood so stiffly made it hard to balance - and you fidgeted with the edges of the sheets to distract yourself, straightening the edges to line in perfection.
“You weren’t in class today. Cheetah-ssaem said to pass these on to you.” The cat demon was known to have a soft spot for him, so it came to no one’s surprise that she’d rather someone hand him notes instead of asking him to drop by her office if he was feeling unwell.
Or ‘seemingly unwell’.
Because upon closer inspection- he looked to be fine. If maybe a tad bit tired. But who wasn’t at this point of the year? Tousled hair and dark circles on pale skin. You weren’t even sure if it really was tiredness, or if it was just the normal traits of his kind.
“Thanks.”
“Welcome,” dropping the notes on the table, you scan over the vampire fiction skeptically.
Maybe reading human fiction about his kind gave him a sense of ironic humour? Perhaps he really was ill?
“Are you feeling any better?”
“I’m alright. Could be better.” He turns his body towards you, and up close, the dark circles do seem more prominent – almost hollowed bruising under the shadows of his eye bags. In contrast - making his eyes shine even more brilliantly under the dim light.
“Thanks for asking though. And…” You looked down to avoid the way he scanned over you. “Are you alright?”
“Yeah?” Blinking in surprise, you supposed you were. Was any reason to his worry? Did you look particularly drained? Was he even worried? The workload must’ve finally taken its toll on you as well.
“Good.” He nods to himself more than anything. As if he’d simply been confirming a fact he’d already known… or looking for an anomaly.
I really must be tired… He’s just asking out of politeness.
Seongwu was known to need time to warm up to people. The way he carries himself … Aloof and careful down the hallways, but cracking up in toothy (or is it fanged?) smiles and loud chuckles near his (equally famous) dormmates. There was no reason for him to suddenly be interested in your well-being.
“Is it the moon cycle?” If it was, what a bother it must be. Your race wasn’t really affected by such things, but you knew vampires rarely had trouble seeking out sleep. “Is that why you’ve been missing classes?”
Seongwu pursed his lips as he looks up at you from where’s he sat. Tutting, fingers drumming over the hard cover.
“Is it obvious?” He asked, hating to think that it was now taking a physical toll on him. If there was one thing he took pride in, it was his appearance.
“Well, yeah. You’re probably the only person I know who hasn’t drowsed off in that chair.” The old armchair was notorious for being the worst seat if one had to study. Cursed by some old senior when they fell asleep on it and missed an exam. Misery loved company.
“Is that all?” Seongwu’s vaguely amused, as if thinking that no weak cursed chair could affect him anyway. To each their own – you weren’t lining up to give it a try. Especially not after what happened at your last curse breaking exam.
“I guess you look different in a way as well?” Like he needs a good snuggle. “Like… you’re kinda drowning in your current sweater-“
You gesture at the soft knit. Much more comfortable looking than your own uniform. A great deal more casual than anything you’ve ever seen Seongwu in. Less stiff. Less militant.
It doesn’t cross your mind to say that it’s different because he’s wearing something that doesn’t remind others of his rank.
“And you’ve been blinking really hard. Like your eyes are strained. And your face…” Seongwu’s head cocked slightly to the side. Blinking as if to make a point. Like a kitten.
Cute.
The kind of cute that he shouldn’t be allowed to exude because Seongwu carried himself like he’s one of the demigods, when in truth he was just another pompous blue-blood, but he’s just-
Really soft.
Your mind fails you momentarily. Blushing when he stares back unashamedly. Waiting for you.
”It’s slightly puffy.” Your hands fly up to the sides of your face to try and imitate what you think ‘puffy’ might look like. No point hiding what he already knew.
On a more serious note…
“You look tired.”
The words spill out as a garbled mess. You hope he doesn’t mind, your diction isn’t normally so embarrassing. And you knew that a few of the older clans had pet peeves for these things.
“Thanks.” He snorted at the serious look on your face. Seongwu rolls his eyes, but he did feel better, to think that you noticed these things.
And the scent – he could grudgingly admit - was comforting. The strings that had tied around his head so tightly – loosened, strangely dampened at your closer distance despite how it had stung at him earlier.
“I mean- you still look good though! Very good! Don’t worry! Kinda messy, but like - purposefully. Like you just rolled out of bed!”
That was a compliment, right? That was surely the look that people that take bed selcas went for. And Seongwu took them! You’ve seen his Instagram!
“You’re not going to keep going?”
“Your ego doesn’t need to hear anymore!”
If he kept leading you to talk, it’d almost seem like he wanted to keep you around.
Noticing the chesire grin on his face - you pout, a look that he mockingly imitates – so you squint, and he squints back.
But Seongwu’s still smiling, so he just looks funny, which causes you to laugh too; and the next thing you know, you’re tumbling. Doubling down, Seongwu pulling you over.
Ha, Seongwu could’ve cackled – full on 90’s kids-superhero-movie-villain type of cackled - at how easy it’d been to verify his theory.
He didn’t really want to think about the repercussions if he were to be misguided, but he’d been half prepared to start groveling and apologizing and blaming his current state of craziness on some exotic vampire illness if he’d got the wrong person.
But what he felt was right. Whatever had hold around his head loosened, and the pressing over his ears were gone.
It felt good to have you close. Close enough that he could almost taste the sweetness under your skin. Everything feels real. As if nothing did before. Everything’s clearer. Less cluttered.
He wonders if he’s experiencing a sensory overload.
“But I want to hear more.”
He says, but all you hear is the wild beating of your heart. It’s going so quick, you can feel it knocking at your ribs, the tingling of blood rushing up to your face ticklish as your breathing slows.
Maybe it’s the sudden wash of oxygen, but you feel slightly lightheaded. Floating and drifting.
You’re normally good with words. Never not having anything to say. It should be easy. Yet it wasn’t. Because he was messing with everything.
There’s no way Seongwu doesn’t know what he’s doing to you.
Leaning back from his hold, you search for any signs of the sugar-rush delirium you’re feeling. But he looks perfectly at home with the current turn of events. In fact, Seongwu looks overly comfortable, slightly smug, and amused while playing with the ends of his bangs.
Your hands kinda, maybe, really want to wipe that smirk off his face.
“You don’t always get what you want.”
There isn’t even time to be proud of your comeback (at least, you’d intended it to be), since it applied to you too.
If anything, the boy looks even more determined to keep on bothering you, tongue tracing the edges of his fangs as if to remind you that – hey, I have fangs, so if you punch my very good-looking, statue-like face you might scratch your hand – and that, he did have a very very good-looking face. Damn him.
A buzz resounds from the table that traps you against Seongwu in a weird, contorted angle, and you turn – extorting maximum amount of effort from your poor back - to look at his abandoned phone – about to say something. Anything else would be better than the awkward silence that’s settled.
But instead all that comes out is an even more awkward ‘uuhhh’ when he starts smiling at the slip up. All kitten lips and twinkly eyes and nose crinkles (what is actually going on???).
There’s no slow motion and sparkling background like the dramas and webtoons… it’s just awkward since Seongwu is still just staring (but also smiling now) – as if this is the funniest thing he’s seen since nuguseyo, and the constant pause-and-buzz action going on behind you does nothing to help relieve the situation.
You should really be creeped out and also, maybe mildly offended. Because wow, you’ve totally fallen for that “handsome-guy does douchey things but gets away with it because he’s handsome” troupe – but you can’t even bring yourself to be annoyed since Seongwu looks freakishly happy for some reason.
He just seemed… content.
And seeing him look happier also makes you feel good. And warm inside.
But that isn’t the point. Point was - he’s already sick (or tired? Very very tired. Just not well enough to attend classes), and you were being nice because of that. And he wasn’t doing more than hugging you? Half hugging?
Maybe he was just stressed, and all the poor guy needed was a hug.
If he’d looked like a sad kitten stuck in the rain earlier, now he looks like a kitten that’s been fed warm milk and just wants a nap. Sated. And, oh - look how dark it is outside - you really, probably, should stop with the kitten comparisons before you start melting into a pile of mush- -
By now, you’re making a conscious effort to let your eyes drift anywhere but him. rubbing your lips together to spread what remains of your lip balm when the phone buzzes again. More messages coming in.
It was almost curfew. His dorm was probably looking for him before the maglocks activated.
“Ignore it.”
Seongwu says to get your attention back at him. Stretching his neck to nuzzle at the palm of the hand you raised to point at the phone. Senses dull and awake in response to the fragrant warmth.
Taking your hand back, your fists clenched, willing shudders to subside as you slip in the hole that formed between his arms and the table, opting to support yourself on the chair.
“Okay.”
Vampires were instinctively predators. Maybe Seongwu is also the type that lets go when prey stops struggling. (You wish your heart would also stop struggling to keep a steady pace too).
“Is this alright?”
“Is this… what?”
“Is this alright? Can we stay like this for a moment?” Seongwu closes his eyes, inhaling. “Just a moment.”
Nodding, you let your arms rest on either side of him, elbows digging into the couch to keep you from falling flush against him.
It was obvious that as strange as this was, he was in no state to hurt you, and whatever Seongwu was suffering from seemed to have found temporary relief.
Feeling you lean in, pulse steadying, eyes flashing the same shade of dark red to match his own - a clear sign that the strings of fate were somehow involved between the two of you. He hasn’t quite grasped why you’re putting up with him. How long would you let him stay this way? To what extent?
Does she feel the same?
If he’d known how soft hearted you were, he’d have to keep an eye out for you earlier. Seongwu let his eyes drift from the sharp chin and ruddy lips up to the dark lashes, thick enough to form a curtain over her eyes… It wasn’t too late to start now…
Echoes of the magically enhanced curtains shutting from the end of the hall cause you to look away distractedly whilst more lights and candles begin to flicker and flutter.
“Do you usually like to read?”
“Reading’s okay. I like poetry though.”
“I-“
“Like painting. I saw your watercolours the other day.” He thinks of the girl so intent on mixing the right shades of aqua and gray that she wastes half the lesson before starting to paint - while he sticks doodling black lines on paper.
“I was going to say that I like reading, as long as it’s not part of the curriculum.”
When he’s not busy pretending to be the most important person in the room, you guess Seongwu was nice. There’s an easy-going streak to him. And despite having pegged him as the type to enjoy dark humour and sarcasm, it seems like slapstick and hyperbolic parodies were more of his turf.
Then in a true case of awkward timing - a yawn escapes to break the supine pattern of low mumbles and slow breaths, the comfortable conversation you’d fallen into – as if reminding the two of you that the locks were definitely going to be switched on soon; and you’d have laughed at Seongwu’s instantaneous reaction to throw you off him if not for the worry evident over his handsome features while you try to re-balance yourself.
Your hands fly to the nearest offer of support – which in this case – end up being Seongwu’s shoulders (kinda bony, you make note of absently), as his hands come around your waist help to lift you off. Settling you on the ground again.
Huh? From being haughty to friendly, cuddling to leaving, everything seemed to be going at his designated pace.
“Shall I walk you back?” Collecting the papers, he looks to the entrance, books floating back to their original spaces on the shelf as his gaze narrows at the darkening sky.
“Uh… No. No. I’ll be fine to go back myself. I think.”
“Are you sure you don’t want me to go with you? It’s getting dark and your place is far.”
It doesn’t strike you to think how Seongwu knows where you stay. Nor does Seongwu seem to think too much of how he knows. All you notice is the almost guilty look on his face. Wearing his features down further. And when he blinks – again – as if readjusting his sight. It’s like he’s straining.
In truth, you think, Seongwu’s the one you should be walking back in that state.
“I’ll be fine. You go back and have an early night. See you in class tomorrow?”
“I’ll try to make it.”
He doesn’t.
It’s clearer that night, as if mist had cleared amidst the dawn’s arrival, Seongwu supposes it has in a way; and it’s with knowledge of his destination that he heads out, more aware of his surroundings and the security cameras at every turn. Mind is only half awake, body taking the reins once again.
His consciousness is very much present, and he wills himself to travel faster, stealthily drift towards the figure that kept haunting him at night. Body remembering its way as it drifts through the halls.
This time, however, he pauses at the door.
Takes his time to pick up the whoosh of air escaping your pillow, of the duvet sliding off your limp body, and the barely-there sighs of slumber as you toss and turn.
Seongwu blames this stupid primary-school-stalking-his-crush behaviour on natural instincts. And the watching-her-sleep part largely on reading Twilight.
It’s strikingly familiar regressing the room, once again occupied by the young winter’s first breaths of midnight chill. A cause for the soft duvets and blackened-wick candles spread atop the coffee table he’d neglected to noticed on previous visits.
Seongwu isn’t even able to muster surprise when he finally sees his sleeping beauty for the first time.
It’s her. Of course, it’s her.
He’d known the moment you stepped out the library that night. There was no way you could’ve seemed so familiar. Intimate.
You’d been more effective than valium, and more addictive than opium. Becoming this form of cacoethes to bother him night after sleepless night.
Just one taste.
Pliant and trusting, leaning towards his warmth as he sat by your side - he could picture it – how easy it’d be to mark you. Behind each nibble of flesh under his teeth, a bud of pink would bloom. Then if you let him, he’d indulge in more – and each bite would blossom fragrant petals of red.
Seongwu’s biting so damn hard on his own lips - just to hold back from biting something else - that its strange to think that he isn’t bleeding when its usually so easy to draw blood with a scrape of his fangs.
One taste. And it’ll all stop.
Rubbing his sideburns now, really making an effort to not lose concentration, dragging it up with his fingertips until he feels the slight burn, he’s sure that whatever control he has won’t last any longer –
Seongwu widens his jaw carefully, the slow motion usually causing his jaw bone to crack as he widens his mouth to let his fangs fully form. Letting the cool ivory graze upon the pulse point. He could already tell that it’d be delicious from the scent.
The fangs are cool metal on warm skin, and from the way you squirm away slightly, he can tell that your neck’s ticklish. How cute.
When the first signs of red begin to leak from the small incision he’s made, Seongwu tentatively laps at the blood. Sweet and fragrant don’t even begin to describe it after so many nights. This was the blood he’s been looking for.
Shifting to the side to try and rid of the ticklish sensation, you seem to be having the strangest dream. There’s trickling water down your neck and a dark shadow by your side. Yet despite their hidden silhouette and presence, you don’t feel fear.
Just the need to see them. Know them.
In the dim light of your room, your blurry eyes seem to have painted a mop of black hair and pale skin, a smattering of colour over his lips, with thin wrists and beautiful hands… ones you recognize.
“… Seongwu?” Your dreams seem to have formed a constellation in his image. “Is that you?”
“... y/n?” Pulling away, his hands remained between your head and the pillow.
“Why are you here?”
Was it fair to ask a figment of your imagination why they were there? One who wore Seongwu’s face because your mind unconsciously wanted it so? To listen to words you wanted to hear spoken by Seongwu’s images? And hope to hear that he was here for you?
Proof that he also felt the same pull you did.
Seongwu stood in place, studying the dazed look in your eyes. You certainly seemed to be awake instead of sleep talking, but too calm to think him a threat despite the drawn blood.
He’s the one that wants an explanation. A reason for you to keep on bothering his thoughts, but not while you’re still in a state of confusion. Subtly intoxicated with vampire venom.
“Your blood called me.” He whispers. Raspy. His throat is dry. Thirsting for more.
Draping his hand over your eyes, Seongwu closes his fingers over your temple firmly, another hand supporting the back of your neck to lay you back on the bed. Willing for control and power as his hands begin to glow.
For now, he’d lay you down on a throne of pillows, make you feel like royalty. Seongwu hoped that in the future, perhaps you’d find it in your graces to allow him another taste.
“Forget the night.”
Dorm arrest is fun, Seongwu mused, now with a proper reason to stay away from classes.
But it’d be a lot more tolerable if the others stopped making fun said dorm arrest.
And if they alone in his misery instead of bringing their lunches over because Minhyun was going to murder him if any crumbs fell on their carpet.
“What was it again? You felt her or something? That’s how you know she’s your soulmate.?”
Not feel, but more like – sensed. Some type of magnetic forcefield sci-fi shit he couldn’t explain. But that sound too corny, so Seongwu changed his approach-
“I just seem to smell her everywhere.”
“Normal people tend to say that they see them everywhere when they like someone, hyung.” Guanlin offered, gently, as if trying to gauge whether it was a cultural difference thing. But nevertheless, worried about his senior. “Is it the lack of sleep? Do you want me to ask Daehwi to brew you a sleeping draught?”
“Don’t worry so much.” Sungwoon laughed at the scandalized look on Seongwu’s face after hearing what the maknae had to say. “Ongcheongie isn’t exactly normal.”
“Love makes you blind, hyung.” Woojin adds in between mouthfuls of food while Jihoon nods absently, already used to simply agreeing with whatever his same aged friend had to say whenever they had (loud) group discussions as long as it didn’t affect him and the fried chicken in front of him. “Maybe that’s why you smell her.”
For members of a four-legged race in the pack, it was norm to primarily locate mates through their scents. Was there a point in worrying over something like this? Once again, Seongwu was overreacting.
“Ongie-hyung’s as blind as a bat!” Daniel adds cheekily, prodding fun at his similarly blood-feeding friends, before bursting out in laughter over his own joke. Repeating the word ‘bat’ at himself and giggling each time, only pausing in between his laughs to take a bite of his burger.
“At least I’m not a big puppy that likes to pretend to be a cat!”
“Yah!”
Sulking, Seongwu folded his arms in front of him to lean on, pushing his chin onto his wrist until his lips formed a pout. “And I’m not in love.”
“Right.” Guanlin nodded in disbelief, evaluating the current situation. For such a hopeless romantic, he’d thought that Seongwu would be happier finding his soulmate. “Is she giving you a hard time? Does she not like you back?”
“Uhhh….”
‘Did she not like him back?’
Who wouldn’t like him back? Seongwu paused, thinking of the best way to explain without making him seem like an idiot.
“I might’ve tried to wipe out her memories.”
“HYUNG!” The lower classmen shout at him in chorus while he defends himself.
There were so many reasons why he had to do that!
For one, he could’ve got expelled for sneaking into the girl’s dorms (Daniel snickered at that); and two, if he wasn’t expelled for that – he could’ve been stuck with a permanent record if he suddenly lost control of his appetite and fed too gluttonously (‘But you didn’t, and I know you won’t,’ Sungwoon reassures).
“The fact that you’re Minhyun-hyung’s second-in-command makes me worry about the future.”
“Ahhh, hyung!” Even the maknae looked disappointed in him.
“You’re on your own.” Jihoon decides halfway through his chicken (and by proxy, his explanation). “I’m not involving myself in some idiot-hyung’s love life., or lack of.” He took one last bite to finish off his meal, reminding Seongwu of his own – untouched – food. “It might give me indigestion.”
“Demon!”
The demon only raises an eyebrow, pretty face hiding his evil intentions (evil evil eeeevvvvviiiiilll, Seongwu chants). “Was I supposed to be offended?”
“And I already said I’m not in love!” He sighed. Burying his head under his arms now. “I’m just. Maybe. In like or something.”
“In like.” Daniel repeats, nose scrunching in attempt to hold back his laughter.
He loved his hyung. Really, he did. Ride or die, brothers under oath, travel all three realms and back type of thing, but the things that came out of his mouth sometimes-
Daniel scrunched his nose.
“Don’t.” Ong warned. “Don’t laugh.”
“Too late.” Sungwoon bursts out in laughter with the rest of the table following. “So what do you plan to do now? It’s not like you can get those memories back after wiping them off.”
Seongwu opened his mouth, but closed it again when he realizes that – yes, indeed – while doable, it was risky considering he had no reigns over the amount of time he could give back to you.
Spots of memory were even more dangerous than a clean slate. Especially when you were in the advantageous state for memory manipulation, being half-awake.
“And you’re under dorm arrest now that you were caught outside after dark.” Woojin pointed out. Unhelpfully, might Seongwu add. “So, no more midnight stalker visits to knock her off her feet, maybe you should-”
Ears twitching at the sound of someone else about to enter the dorm with food, Woojin and Daniel stood abruptly to race each other to the door, ignoring Seongwu’s cries of ‘so what should I doooooo?’
When the door opens, it’s not who you expect.
You’d expected Ong Seongwu whose been bothering your dreams ever since that night in the library. Ong Seongwu whose hands gently comb through the knots of your hair, fingers sweeping along your neck in those dreams. And Ong Seongwu who made your heart race whenever the thought of him enters your mind.
But instead of the vampire, it’s crown prince, Hwang Minhyun looking down at you blankly.
Not ‘looking down’ as if you were a peasant (even though, that’s exactly how Hwang Minhyun – and by extension, Seongwu had initially made you feel), but because you kind of shrink into their front carpet under his calculating gaze. As if he’s looking for a third eye or something.
You knew that Seongwu shared a room with the gumiho since it was one of the many strange conditions the royal family had set for ‘security reasons’ in order to keep the general and advisor close to the future emperor; but whilst seeing Seongwu out of uniform made you want to take care and coddle him – seeing Minhyun in his casual wear made you want to cower away.
It wasn’t the way the carried themselves, or the glowing aura that always seemed to exude from the dorm 101 boys… but just a feeling, inside. None of the comfortable familiarity you found synonymous Seongwu is there.
“If you’re looking for Seongwu, he’s not in.”
“But he’s ill!”
He shouldn’t be going out in his state… Peeking through the door, you can see that it’s indeed dark in the room.
“Yes. Seongwu’s very ill.” The fox repeats in the empty room.
“I brought some iron tablets with me and the notes from today’s lesson. He’ll need them since they’re probably gonna show up in the test-“ next Saturday, you want to say. But catch yourself when you notice the amused look Minhyun is wearing.
There was no reason you had to explain to him when it was Seongwu you wanted to speak to!
“You should come back tomorrow.”
Nodding, you’re about to ask to pass the things over him instead, but quickly catch yourself before you make any more attempts to ask a member of the monarch for favours.
“I mean… If I may bother you again so….”
Minhyun laughs at this point, unable to hold the poker face any further when he sees how uncomfortable you look.
“Don’t worry, I probably won’t be in since I have a full day tomorrow.”
He looks to your right as if signalling for you to make a move on, and as you’re making your turn, the door shuts as abruptly as it opened. Lock loudly clicking in place.
“Ongie!”
Ongie! You blushed, hearing such a cute nickname, while your jaw dropped with the knowledge that he was inside. Liars!
“You can’t just hide at the back of the room. It’s not going to fix anything.”
“Nothing will fix it! Unless-” Seongwu whined, last words mumbled into the pillow he was beating in annoyance. “You don’t understand!”
“Evidently.” Rolling his eyes, Minhyun slid the pillow out of Seongwu’s grasp.
“But I can’t even control it. We’ve locked everything and even put a shifting charm on this place. You know I can’t risk altering the room too much in case we catch their attention.”
“Just speak to her. I’m sure she’ll understand.”
“How~?” He dragged the syllable out, wrapping the duvet over himself now that the pillow was gone. “Hi, it’s Seongwu, and hypothetically I may have been visiting you at night. You also seemed to like me the last time we met but you just don’t remember it?”
“Be serious.” Minhyun chided. Knowing that Seongwu defense mechanism was sarcasm when cornered.
“Should I just keep wiping out her memory?”
“I think the idea is to stop doing that.”
Summoning your strength, you grab the door handle and force it open, feeling the mechanics loosen under your touch momentarily. Authority be damned.
Neither of the boys looking too surprised at your entrance.
“Stop what?”
What did you say you’d been doing?
“Why are you still here?” Seongwu asks as if that’s the only thing on his mind when he should – in your opinion – be a lot more worried depending on how he answers your question.
Now was not the time for him to be curious.
“Go.” Minhyun says, and you note that there’s definitely something different in his tone from before. The authority, the latent power from his royal blood affecting the magic that runs in your veins.
Seongwu’s unmoving. Eyes shifting from Minhyun to you.
“No, you two were talking about me. I have no reason to leave. Not unless Seongwu comes with me.”
You needed answers.
The gumiho stands between the both of you, tension pulling back and forth, shaking his head as he takes leave.
But not before looking back at Seongwu as if asking for silent confirmation that he can handle this- you- as if you were some form of political coup practice question, while Seongwu and you stand in stalemate.
You don’t know whether to be honoured or offended.
“What have you done to me?”
Why do I dream of you, Ong Seongwu?
“Nothing.”
lies lies lies lies lies
Why has he taken over your mind, and made your blood boil in anticipation... for what you don’t know - if there’s nothing?
“You should stay away from me.”
One step.
Two steps.
Three steps.
For someone whose been so adamant of avoiding you, despite what he says, he’s not doing much to stop you from getting closer.
“Why?” You challenge, he may be able to use that haughty tone of his easily around here, but not with you. “Under the Peace Treaty you can’t do anything to me during the day.”
Or more accurately. Between daybreak and sundown.
The more powerful the race, the stricter the regulations and restrictions, and the harsher the punishments.
As a vampire - Seongwu wouldn’t even be able to lay a finger on you while the sun is up, lest he accidentally cut skin. Drawing blood without the donor’s consent was prohibited. Punishable by expulsion. And a record.
Seongwu glanced back into his room, well aware of the law, as the umbrage of the autumn foliage masks shadows in his room.
Internally, he gave himself a pat on the back for good timing as a smirk creeps onto his face – damn him and his good-looking face –
“But we’ve only seen each other after sun-down, haven’t we?”
Heat rose to your face – as Seongwu reaches to touch, his skin cold against yours.
“What-?“
Stroking the side of your cheek, he can feel every movement of blood that rushes to meet his touch. And he’s mesmerised by his image reflected in your eyes. The way you look straight at him.
Stupid girl, he thought. So trusting, so unprotected. Guess he’ll just have to be the one taking care of you now till you find someone better.
Which you won’t. Because he’ll make sure to treat you the best. Cherish you until the only things between the two of you were warm promises and pretty tones. The only mistreatment he’d let you suffer was him holding your hand too tight. And maybe some neck nibbles.
Seongwu resisted the urge to bare his fangs, body remembering the taste it craved.
“Your blood called me.”
“How do you know about…”
It wasn’t a dream?
Seongwu cocked his head to the side, reminiscent of the time you met in the library.
“Question is. How do you remember?”
Was it the effects of you being his soulmate? Did it mean that his abilities didn’t work on you?
He must feel as nervous as you. You can feel the nervousness coming off as waves through you while your gaze traces the movement of his adam’s apple swallowing down the tension.
“You’re not scared?”
And you are. You’re scared of the connection you feel to him. The need to stay close and claim him as yours, the thought of smelling his shampoo in your bathroom and seeing his toothbrush next to yours. It scares you because you’re not usually fond of physical gestures – and yet, you want his arms wrapped around you.
You’re scared. But not of him.
“No. Should I be?”
“Very.” His hands wander up your sides, stilling behind your neck. Cradling. Pulling you towards him. “You taste too good.”
“And you wanna drink?” You ask. Knowing full well the answer. You’ve suffered too much thinking you’ve gone crazy with the amount of times you see him in your supposed ‘dreams’ lusting over your blood.
Locking your arms around him too. You lean close with the knowledge that he was nowise less attracted to you than you to him.
Two can play a game.
“Wanna do more than drink,” he mirrors, mumbling on your neck, addicted; eyes tightly shut, retreating into your warmth, drowning out his senses as the beating pulse calls out to him.
Lifting your hand - you slap him on his forehead, and his eyes snap open abruptly.
“What was that for?!”
“I expect payment if I’m going to be your blood bank.”
“You’re not-“ Seongwu pulls back, appalled that you’d refer to yourself as such. “You’re not my blood bank!”
“Well, technically. I’m not your anything yet.”
“What do you want?” He snaps. Hurriedly. Absently. He’s just saying things without thinking now. Too distracted by the sight of you becoming clearer in front of him as the night begins to cover the room in darker shades.
“What do I want? Are you sure you can give me anything I ask for?”
Yes, he can. If he can’t – he’ll find a way - so that he can. Anything for you.
“Yes!”
You didn’t expect the vampire to be… so placate. Seongwu just stands there accepting everything you had to say with a nod. Almost like a pet being reprimanded. Even you can’t deny the pull in you towards him, but a soul-bond shouldn’t affect him that much.
It’s kind of endearing seeing him lose control so completely.
“I don’t have anything I want right now.”
Seongwu has his thinking face on. The one you’ve marvelled over countless times upon during class whenever he attends. A hint of the lack of patience from before remains, but his craftiness has definitely been amped up.
Seems like sunset does apparently mean that he’s a lot more in control of himself…
“Then you’ll have me until you know what you want.”
{ epilogue }
“What are you doing tonight?”
Now more than ever, Seongwu loathes that they’re only allowed to feed without fear of being caught in the brief bracket between dinner and lights-out. Why were the dorms so freaking far apart?
It helped that his urge to feed had been satiated these last few days, but vampires were nocturnal creatures, and he’d much rather spend the night by your side.
He was well aware that there’s been an assignment you’ve been working on too. Which meant – in the words of Woojin - no midnight stalker visits, even though Daehwi could technically organize a portal for him, he shan’t bother you while you were working.
Such was his sad fate. Dating but alone. He sighed.
“I dunno. Sleeping. Maybe.”
“Shame.”
You’d just handed in your assignment earlier and saw that Seongwu had neglected coming into class again, and decided to indulge in just a little teasing.
Your cool response does nothing to placate him. If anything, it urges him to seek for your attention even more as his hands rest at your side, leaning in, and you let his fangs sweep along your nape.
“I thought - we might be seeing each other tonight.”
“Oh?” He pulls back, wide smile creeping onto his face, eyebrows wagging. Expression all too cocky for you to willingly cooperate.
Rolling your eyes, you lift up two fingers to flick his forehead away from your neck.
“In your dreams.” But despite the joking you do fall into his embrace easily, letting him breath in your scent, hands creeping from waist to the small of his back, pulling him flush.
Up close, you can see that his eyes are half lidded, pupils blown wide catching streaks of light; his lips slightly rosy from your lip gloss, and it really shouldn’t be allowed for him to look at you like this.
Sliding his lips against yours, Seongwu kisses as if trying the take the air from your lungs. Demanding as always. He kisses with arrogance because he knows he’s good.
There’s no reason he wouldn’t be when he’s already fallen so deep, and Seongwu only wants to fall deeper and deeper until there’s no return back to reality.
The way you make those small squeaks of surprise, but continue letting him hold you and pull him closer only makes him want more. To lose his mind to desire. As if you’re letting him whatever he wants, moving to accommodate the growing greed in him to keep you close.
And it’s maddening. It shouldn’t be allowed because Seongwu’s going crazy.
Gods, he thinks he can hear you holding back on whines. The gods were really out there playing with him, huh?
You’re clawing at him to bring him closer and panting under him, and for what? Seongwu’s already driven crazy just from your presence. Strung tight and overwrought. And so so crazy.
He shuddered at the noises you made. Noises you normally wouldn’t let him hear until sundown because they’re so faint and he wants to tell you to stop before he loses control even further, but there’s words dying at the tip of his tongue.
Why should you have to do anything else to push his senses into overdrive?
He wants you. Wants you so much he could monopolize everything and let his manipulative streak take over if need be.
Seongwu wants to devour and be devoured all at once. He wants everything.
“y/n?” Seongwu searched for your eyes; wanting to look at you. His equal. The one person that can calm the sunlight burning of his cold blood and relight it with fire. Wonders how he has it so perfect. How he managed to live so long without you.
“Hmm?”
“I’m glad it’s you.”
Sniffing the air, Minhyun sighed as he paced around the palace grounds, enjoying the lilting breeze characteristic of this time of the year.
Leaving the institute for the holiday was perhaps the most appropriate choice. He’d had enough of Seongwu’s pining to last a few decades. There was no need to surrender himself into listening to his roommate’s poetry-writing process for the ‘love of his immortal life’ if he could avoid it.
His roommate and confidante fancied himself to have a keen nose, yet it was nothing when compared to one of the four-legged clan’s.
None of the werewolves or fellow gumihos were going to let the vampire live when they smelt the new marking. He remembers scoffing at Seongwu’s plan to pretend to not know that the girl was still outside their door.
Speaking of scents… how strange it was that the peach blossoms trees were all pushed into full bloom…
