#september botm

picked up clockwork angel for my first september botm and i'm already past the first 100 pages of the book. only one major plot point happening for now since we are pretty early into the story.

one thing i do have to say though, i can't vibe with tessa just yet. she seems like a strong girl, sure, but her idea of what a girl/woman should and shouldn't be is pretty naive and juvenile(?). maybe it's just me being a girl myself, living in the 21st century, but girl grow up?? i also couldn't get into her acting like she knows a person just because she spent like what? a day max with said person? glad she got told off about it too. she needed that little wake up call for sure.

but! with all of that being said, i do find the plot and world building intriguing and i'm actually super excited to met jem/james in future chapters.

Meg... I have the worst news... I am in a reading rut :( I haven't been able to get myself to pick up Immortal Longings and now I don't know what I am in the mood for. I have so many books that are perfect for fall vibes but it's not close enough to September for me, personally, to start getting really cozy for my fall reading. The Adventures of Amina Al-Sirafi has been a fantastic summer book, and also great on Audio, but it's my work book (I work from home) and I don't want to get too far ahead. Struggles :/

Not really sure what to read next, but I've been reading ACOTAR before bed because it puts me to sleep, and maybe I'll have to commit to the bit. I think I will see what my BOTM pick for August is, or maybe just sit and force myself to read. I think I am in the mood for something light, something entertaining!!

I was hoping that this weekend I could go up to my dad's cottage and read a lot 😭😭 but... we got approved to adopt another cat and we might be picking him up this weekend! 😍 we're discussing the best time for this, and we might just ask if we can pick him up late sunday or monday, because we'll have to spend time introducing them and we won't be able to leave town for a little bit. Is this why expecting parents just fuck off for a week before their babies are born?? who knows, and now i am rambling bc I am bored hahah

oh nooo reading ruts are the worst :// I've been in one myself too, I hope we get through this phase and come out stronger! AND OH OH OH A NEW KITTY THAT'S SO EXCITING!!!! looking forward to ALLLLL the updates, and in the meanwhile a little book rec that kept me intrigued and might help you with the slump - Do Tell by lindsay lynch, imo it's an interesting, much, much better version of evelyn hugo with a more confident and mature narrative

Sarah’s book recommendation: My September Book of the Month, “The Attic Child” by Lola Jaye was a great but difficult read. Though it was over 400 pages, I found myself glued at the end to find out what was going to happen. The book follows two separate timelines—one in the 1900s and one in the 1990s, connecting them both at the end with the central characters. This book touches on difficult subject matters, like racism and abuse, but presents them from the unique perspective of the child who is experiencing it and has never encountered such evils. I love a good underdog story and this book told one of the best ones I’ve read. The principal character endured such depravities that could have easily lead him down a bad road, but he kept fighting and made an incredibly successful life for himself and his future family. He also learned how to trust others again and how to coexist with the scars of his trauma, eventually passing along his story to the other principal character at the converging timeline.
