Talents in Navamsha
The D-9 Divisional Chart, or Navamsha Chart, is the second most important chart after the Rasi or D-1 chart. It reveals our potential and certain patterns that characterise our inner world, which typically evolve over a lifetime. With the help of the Navamsha chart, we can also identify our innate talents - these are reflected in the Trikona houses (1, 5, 9) and the planets located there. Any planet placed in one of these houses indicates capabilities and talents carried over from past lives, as well as the areas of life that are naturally preferred for one's activities.
Besides planets located in Trikona houses, it is important to analyse their placement in the Rasi (D-1) Chart, too. And of course, we need to pay attention to the signs of the Trikona houses as well as their rulers.
HOUSES IN NAVAMSHA CHART DESCRIBE...
The first house - The planets in the 1st house of the Navamsha chart reveal the skills, talents, and preferences that are inherent to a person from early childhood, essentially from birth. These often manifest as unconscious abilities, yet people still identify with them on a deep level. Interestingly, individuals may not even recognise these traits as special, assuming them to be average or ordinary simply because they come so naturally.
The fifth house - The planets in the 5th house of the Namasha chart will tell about those talents, which require some personal efforts.
The ninth house -The 9th house planets in Navamsha chart reveal the true direction, skills, and talents that help a person live in harmony with the world and fulfill their life mission.
PLANETS IN NAVAMSHA TRIKONA HOUSES (1,5,9):
Sun: bestows a gift to make an impression, inspire, manage, protect, and unite. Areas where to implement these talents: business, politics, social work, medicine and healing, protection of public order
Moon: talents in pedagogy, psychology, caregiving, the arts and writing. Areas where to implement these talents: charity, social work, childcare, artistic fields, psychology (especially in roles involving or supporting women)
Mars: natural skill in management, sports, martial arts, cooking, mechanics, electrical work, and engineering. Areas where to implement these talents: business (particularly oriented toward men, such as automotive, shipping, or barbering), restaurants, maintenance services, engineering, industrial design, and architecture.
Mercury: gives sharp intellect, eloquence, and talents in public speaking, writing, acting, teaching, and commerce. Areas where to implement these talents: business, trade, accounting, education, journalism, medicine, creative and technical writing and scientific research
Jupiter: grants innate wisdom, reason, and talent for teaching, coaching, and guiding others. Areas for applying these talents: education, writing, life coaching, psychology, medicine, law, jurisprudence, and banking.
Venus: bestows a natural talent for charm, aesthetic expression, and the ability to bring beauty into the world through art, decoration, and refinement. This placement often indicates artistic gifts in painting, music, design, and performance (dance, singing, etc.) It supports success in fields related to the beauty and entertainment industries. Areas for applying these talents: arts, sewing, beauty industry, entertainment, acting, makeup, design, and businesses aimed at or involving women.
Saturn: gives wisdom beyond one's years, natural talents in self-discipline, resilience, and endurance. It grants a strong capacity for long-term planning and working within structured systems. People with Saturn in trikona (1,5,9) houses often possess a karmic affinity for supporting the elderly or those in need of stability and care. Areas for applying these talents: social work, management, work with the elderly, construction, architecture, working with metals, building materials, antiques, or anything aged and worn that requires repair, restoration, or preservation.
Rahu:grants a broad perspective, a unique and unconventional mindset, and strong abilities in learning foreign languages and adapting to new environments. It bestows talents in psychology, entertainment, and innovative thinking. Individuals with this placement often stand out for their originality and can serve as both innovators and provocateurs, challenging norms and opening new paths. Areas for applying these talents: IT, social media, advertising, psychology, esoteric studies (including astrology), innovation-driven fields.
Ketu: grants strong intuition, deep knowledge in psychology, religion, esoteric studies (including astrology). Talents in maths, programming, IT. Afflicted Ketu can give thievish tendencies. Areas for applying these talents: psychology, IT, research, esoteric studies, hairdressing (Ketu is known for cutting abilities).

The so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is starting to put together a team to migrate the Social Security Administration’s (SSA) computer systems entirely off one of its oldest programming languages in a matter of months, potentially putting the integrity of the system—and the benefits on which tens of millions of Americans rely—at risk.
The project is being organized by Elon Musk lieutenant Steve Davis, multiple sources who were not given permission to talk to the media tell WIRED, and aims to migrate all SSA systems off COBOL, one of the first common business-oriented programming languages, and onto a more modern replacement like Java within a scheduled tight timeframe of a few months.
Under any circumstances, a migration of this size and scale would be a massive undertaking, experts tell WIRED, but the expedited deadline runs the risk of obstructing payments to the more than 65 million people in the US currently receiving Social Security benefits.
“Of course, one of the big risks is not underpayment or overpayment per se; [it’s also] not paying someone at all and not knowing about it. The invisible errors and omissions,” an SSA technologist tells WIRED.
The Social Security Administration did not immediately reply to WIRED’s request for comment.
SSA has been under increasing scrutiny from president Donald Trump’s administration. In February, Musk took aim at SSA, falsely claiming that the agency was rife with fraud. Specifically, Musk pointed to data he allegedly pulled from the system that showed 150-year-olds in the US were receiving benefits, something that isn’t actually happening. Over the last few weeks, following significant cuts to the agency by DOGE, SSA has suffered frequent website crashes and long wait times over the phone, The Washington Post reported this week.
This proposed migration isn’t the first time SSA has tried to move away from COBOL: In 2017, SSA announced a plan to receive hundreds of millions in funding to replace its core systems. The agency predicted that it would take around five years to modernize these systems. Because of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, the agency pivoted away from this work to focus on more public-facing projects.
Like many legacy government IT systems, SSA systems contain code written in COBOL, a programming language created in part in the 1950s by computing pioneer Grace Hopper. The Defense Department essentially pressured private industry to use COBOL soon after its creation, spurring widespread adoption and making it one of the most widely used languages for mainframes, or computer systems that process and store large amounts of data quickly, by the 1970s. (At least one DOD-related website praising Hopper's accomplishments is no longer active, likely following the Trump administration’s DEI purge of military acknowledgements.)
As recently as 2016, SSA’s infrastructure contained more than 60 million lines of code written in COBOL, with millions more written in other legacy coding languages, the agency’s Office of the Inspector General found. In fact, SSA’s core programmatic systems and architecture haven’t been “substantially” updated since the 1980s when the agency developed its own database system called MADAM, or the Master Data Access Method, which was written in COBOL and Assembler, according to SSA’s 2017 modernization plan.
SSA’s core “logic” is also written largely in COBOL. This is the code that issues social security numbers, manages payments, and even calculates the total amount beneficiaries should receive for different services, a former senior SSA technologist who worked in the office of the chief information officer says. Even minor changes could result in cascading failures across programs.
“If you weren't worried about a whole bunch of people not getting benefits or getting the wrong benefits, or getting the wrong entitlements, or having to wait ages, then sure go ahead,” says Dan Hon, principal of Very Little Gravitas, a technology strategy consultancy that helps government modernize services, about completing such a migration in a short timeframe.
It’s unclear when exactly the code migration would start. A recent document circulated amongst SSA staff laying out the agency’s priorities through May does not mention it, instead naming other priorities like terminating “non-essential contracts” and adopting artificial intelligence to “augment” administrative and technical writing.
Earlier this month, WIRED reported that at least 10 DOGE operatives were currently working within SSA, including a number of young and inexperienced engineers like Luke Farritor and Ethan Shaotran. At the time, sources told WIRED that the DOGE operatives would focus on how people identify themselves to access their benefits online.
Sources within SSA expect the project to begin in earnest once DOGE identifies and marks remaining beneficiaries as deceased and connecting disparate agency databases. In a Thursday morning court filing, an affidavit from SSA acting administrator Leland Dudek said that at least two DOGE operatives are currently working on a project formally called the “Are You Alive Project,” targeting what these operatives believe to be improper payments and fraud within the agency’s system by calling individual beneficiaries. The agency is currently battling for sweeping access to SSA’s systems in court to finish this work. (Again, 150-year-olds are not collecting social security benefits. That specific age was likely a quirk of COBOL. It doesn’t include a date type, so dates are often coded to a specific reference point—May 20, 1875, the date of an international standards-setting conference held in Paris, known as the Convention du Mètre.)
In order to migrate all COBOL code into a more modern language within a few months, DOGE would likely need to employ some form of generative artificial intelligence to help translate the millions of lines of code, sources tell WIRED. “DOGE thinks if they can say they got rid of all the COBOL in months, then their way is the right way, and we all just suck for not breaking shit,” says the SSA technologist.
DOGE would also need to develop tests to ensure the new system’s outputs match the previous one. It would be difficult to resolve all of the possible edge cases over the course of several years, let alone months, adds the SSA technologist.
“This is an environment that is held together with bail wire and duct tape,” the former senior SSA technologist working in the office of the chief information officer tells WIRED. “The leaders need to understand that they’re dealing with a house of cards or Jenga. If they start pulling pieces out, which they’ve already stated they’re doing, things can break.”

Berenice Abbott Wastebasket

Stella Simon, Wastebasket made from a photograph design by Berenice Abbott, 1931
The great art historian Svetlana Alpers published a book on Walker Evans in 2020, Starting From Scratch. Alpers discusses the influences of surrealism versus documentary in photography at the time Evans arrived onto the scene.
She makes the case in the first chapter, writing about the influence of Atget, whom the Surrealists claimed, that photography has a default surreal quality. "The surreal and the abstract are defaults of the camera." The argument doesn't work for me, as any image in a rectangle has surreal qualities. She contrasts surrealism with abstraction this way: "the accident juxtaposition of things in which surrealism produced surprise, while abstraction brought order."

Berenice Abbott, Photograph design for a wastebasket, 1931
Alpers plucks this one abstract Berenice Abbott photograph of crumpled paper as evidence that Abbott always had an abstract vein. This is an odd choice; it's not represenative of her output at the time, which was the topographical "Changing New York" project. Alpers points to the Abbott’s scientific photography, twenty years later, as the continuation of this vein.

Berenice Abbot: Refraction of Water Waves, 1958-1961 / portrait of Julien Levy, 1930
Abbott's crumpled paper abstraction was also a commissioned work. As the title suggests, it was for a design for a wastebasket. And it was Julien Levy's design. Levy had opened his gallery in 1931 and was high on Surrealism and photography. He was intent on bringing Surrealism to the states and he'd experienced the multi-media aspect of the movement and wanted to host films and sell books. Levy had a vision of photographs everywhere: large, statement-making architectural four-meter murals down to small cigarette boxes.
The murals project ended up being part of an exhibit at MOMA in 1932, whereas the smaller objects, which Levy called "kinick kinacks" are a curious footnote. A superficial search doesn’t turn up any surviving examples of these products in museum collections or auction results. A bulk of Levy’s archive is in Philadelphia and the museum has photos documenting both the finished products and the source photos.
Further evidence that Levy commissioned the crumple paper is an alternative crumpled paper photograph by the firm (or simply two people?) Whiting-Salzman Studio. This version has writing and a stamp and it's clear why Abbott's more abstract crumpled paper works better on the basket. There's also a second Abbott crumpled paper in vertical orientation, but it appears to be the same piece of paper, just rotated.

Stella Simon, Lampshade made from a photograph design by Berenice Abbott, 1931
Besides the wastebasket, Abbott also created what looks like a photogram for a lampshade design, with leaves or feathers that resemble a flock of hummingbirds. Philadelphia does not seem to have the source photo. The mysterious Whiting-Salzman Studio created a photo-realistic lampshade design and this source photo still has the Levy gallery tag on it.
Levy got House and Garden magazine to cover the new product line for the April 1932 issue and the first page has a small photo of the cigarette box, but the subsequent two-page spread has illustrations of what spaces could look like with "photography as architecture."
Levy's vision of photography everywhere was constrained by the available printing technology. Ninety years later, with countless services that will print a photo on nearly any surface, swag and trinket, perhaps having that constraint was a good thing. There's a Whiting-Salzman photograph of marble, perhaps a design for a lightweight serving tray that looked like marble. Today a great amount of new flooring is a photograph of wood under vinyl.
1932 was an incredible year for photography in Levy’s gallery. Along with the historic Surréalisme exhibit (which included Atget, Man Ray, Moholy-Nagy), that year he put on a European photography group show, a Man Ray solo exhibit, a New York photography group show (18 photographers, including Berenice Abbott, Walker Evans, Bourke-White), an Abbott solo show and a portrait photography group show. There was a fantastic 2006 exhibit about the gallery and photography (the catalog is at archive.org and has a few paragraphs about the design products).
About twenty years after Abbott's crumpled paper, Robert Rauschenberg was experimenting with blue print / cyanotype paper, some featuring figures as large as several meters tall. With a smaller piece of paper, he seems to have created a process for crumpling that was not simply balling it up, but folding the paper to create a controlled crumple.

In 1953, a few years after the cyanotype, Rauschenberg created a sculptural object, a glass box with crumpled tissue paper. The work was lost or destroyed and only seen in a few photographs.

Denominations as High-School Cliques
(This is a remake of a post I made a while ago)
Catholics are goths because they invented Gothic architecture and love memento mori and gory art of the Crucifixion.
Orthodox are theatre kids because they're the most high-church and hence dramatic.
Church of the East are loners because they're very small and spent most of their history being persecuted by Islamic rulers.
Oriental Orthodox are foreign exchange students because they're very exotic to Westerners.
Lutherans are the mean rich kids because they're high-church and have a reputation for being mean to other denominations.
Reformed are nerds becy they're rationalist and love systematic theology.
Anglicans are a bunch of kids who hang out due to sharing the same lunch table but don't really have much in common - if you know Anglicanism, you get this.
Anabaptists are religious weirdos because they founded their own counterculture.
Congregationalists/Puritans are rebels because they were historically banned in England.
Methodists are activist kids because they're very concerned with helping the poor.
Baptists are jocks because they're very active (sporty, you might say) in evangelism.
Pentecostals are party kids because they have lots of music in their services.

𝐑𝐎𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐄 𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐃𝐂𝐀𝐍𝐎𝐍𝐒.
name: kaveh nickname: none / verse dependant gender: male / androgynous presenting romantic orientation: bisexual preferred pet names: habibi, ya hayati / words of endearment relationship status: verse dependant
opinion on true love: kaveh believes in true love wholeheartedly. he watched how in love his parents were, and he watched this love destroy his mother after the loss of his father. kaveh has seen both ends of what a fierce love can do, and while he wishes and crave to have a love like his parents, he's also scared of the possibility of that same love ripping his heart to shreds. he has experienced grief, loss, and a broken heart already. he does not know how he would fare to once more place his heart in the hands of someone else. if his heart were to be broken this time, kaveh wonders if he has the strength to pick himself back up again, and he thinks that maybe that won't be possible.
opinion on love at first sight: love at first sight is so romantic to him. perhaps it's all the novels that kaveh has read, but being loved at first sight sounds flattering. of course, he would not want someone to pursue love based on appearances alone. he believes getting to know someone and how they would mesh into your own life as a crucial step that can't be skipped.
how ' romantic ' are they: it would be a dishonor to not express just how much of a romantic kaveh is. while he is scared of the concept of a person loving him, he wishes to have a fairy tale like love where his partner adores him as much as he adores them. kaveh thinks of quiet strolls while holding hands and cute little picnic dates. he buys flowers and creates little trinkets or objects that he believes his lover would like. he has a habit of drawing his lover's image into the pages of his sketchbook, and he presses words of endearment into their ear with each soft kiss he gives them. kaveh wants a soft and fulfilling love, and he loves the idea of the dates and domestic life that comes with it. it's okay if his partner is not as romantic as him so long as they allow him to cherish them in the ways that kaveh knows how; acts of service, gift giving, and words of endearment.
ideal physical traits: kaveh thinks that someone who is physically strong would be a great candidate for him. not that kaveh considers himself weak, but he doesn't consider himself particularly strong either. someone who's the same height as him or taller would be nice too, but he's not too picky about physical traits so long as he and his lover likes each other.
ideal personality traits: intelligence is a must. they don't have to have a formal education, they just have to be able to think for themselves and engage with him in conversations from time to time. it would be nice if his partner can keep up with him when he speaks about the finer details of his research and architectural rants. and it would be nice if he could also understand his lover as well when they speak of their own interests. he hopes that his partner has a sense of whimsy. kaveh is an artist first and foremost, and picking up little details as well as enjoying the beauty and fun that life can throw their way without ruining the moment would be nice.
kindness, attentiveness, and empathy are also traits kaveh wishes to find in a partner. someone who cares about him and will make sure that he's okay, mentally and physically. someone who can listen to him rant with interest and encourages him to speak up. someone who will take care of him when kaveh forgets to do so himself.
unattractive physical traits: as someone who carefully grooms his appearance each morning, bad hygiene is a trait that kaveh can't ignore. bad hygiene would remove a person from kaveh's interest instantly.
kaveh is not the epitome of health, but he would prefer if his partner or someone who was pursuing him doesn't smoke. he's not fond of the smell nor does he like the fact that that person would be destroying their lungs in the process.
unattractive personality traits: arguing with him at every turn is not a trait that kaveh would look for in a partner. while intellectual and challenging conversations are great to have, someone who rebukes his every word even when he is not actively trying to start an intellectual conversation would not only grate on his nerves, but in time it would make him feel small. he doesn't think that he's stupid, his withstanding innovations and creations as proof of his intellect, but he doesn't think that he should be labeled as a genius when his own choices landed him in misery. having his thoughts and choices critiqued one by one brings up bad memories along with the negative emotions those times brought him.
greed, selfishness, and narcissism are also traits that kaveh finds unpleasant. if someone were to speak down to him or make him feel bad about himself, then kaveh does not consider that person someone he would want to place himself around.
ideal date: a simple but nice day spent together is already a perfect date for kaveh. he's not picky so long as he and his lover enjoy themselves.
do they have a type: not really! kaveh has not thought too much about dating in general when he has been under constant pressure, stress, and guilt for years on end. making a livelihood has been his first priority. so when he does start considering dating, he just thinks that someone who he likes and who likes him back would be nice. of course he has preferences, but he can't condense that down into a single type.
average relationship length: not applicable. in every verse where kaveh is dating, that person would be his first relationship.
preferred non-sexual intimacy: cuddling. kaveh enjoys the warmth of his lover pressed against him regardless if they're enveloping him in their arms or if he's the one trying to wrap himself around them. perhaps the best part about cuddling is when he lays his head on his lover's chest and listen to the steady beating of their heart as he feels the rise and fall of their chest.
opinion of public affection: kaveh isn't adverse to public displays of affection. in fact, he would enjoy hand holding or having one hand on his partner or his partner having one hand wrapped around him. he's a little more hesitant when it comes to more intimate acts like kissing, but so long as his lover makes him feel safe and comfortable then pda is not off the table.
past relationships ?: none !

#dash games.#muse: kaveh#long post ///#this was so fun to think about#i'm leaving the nickname section blank because kaveh isn't fond of the moniker of 'light of kshahrewar' nor the title of genius#but he's over the moon every time one of his ship partners refer to him with words of endearment and cute petnames

Bio-architecture Formosana
Taisugar Circular Village (TCV) is the first residential project in Taiwan to be fully integrated to the circular economy ideology. TCV comprises three housing blocks, a Circular Demo House (C-House), and an Eco-House (E-House); it accommodates 351 rental units, an urban farm, and an eco-pond, centrally located in the courtyard.
TCV is designed in response to the call for collective requirements for contemporary living, while re-enforcing an intimate sense of community. For the residents, the residential units serve as their rooms, the E-House functions as the kitchen, and the C-House plays the role of a garden.
Designing a building for circularity relies heavily on flexibility and adaptability. TCV’s circular design focuses on modularization and service-orientated appliance supply, all integrated within a building passport for better optimization.

"For a History Lesson and reminder of the role Disabled people have played in activism, I singled out a few instances, but there’s hundreds of thousands throughout America’s history. Many of the privileges and rights people have had are due partly to the fight of our disabled ancestors."
My article details the oppression we've faced for centuries (how it impacts disabled folks of different races, genders, orientations, citizenship status), it talks about the strikes organized by the Disabled Miners and Widows in conjunction with other union groups (and the solidarity this created across union lines). I also talk about the origin of the concept of Accessibility.
As a reminder, Disability is the one marginalized group you can join at any time. Everyone can become disabled, and that is not something to fear -- society taught us to fear it, but I am here to remind you that disabled people are worthy of care, dignity, and respect. We matter and fighting with us will help save all of us including non-disabled people as what impacts us will impact you.
I'd recommend reading it all! I pull out this one example since we're having to defend Section 504 yet again. These tactics used for Section 504 was also used to push for the ADA. I believe it is time for solidarity and more sit-ins/occupations of federal offices:
SECTION 504 Sit-ins
In 1972, Congress drafted the Rehabilitation Act, which was driven largely by the needs of Vietnam veterans. However, this act drew the gaze of the civil rights activists largely due to Section 504.
In Section 504, it stated that people with disabilities should not be “be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.”
The bill was first vetoed by Nixon in 1972, however, activists across the country from various disability advocacy groups and many student groups testified before state legislatures and Congress to push for the elimination of architectural, educational, bureaucratic, and other barriers. They argued heavily for elimination of these barriers and for the ability to be considered for jobs.
Despite Nixon vetoing the Rehab Act a second time, it passed in September 1973. Its section 504 gave disabled people legal and cultural frameworks to gain access to the parts of society they’d been denied prior.
However, these laws were not enforced. Through the lawsuit Cherry v. Matthews, activists pushed for enforcement regulations, and in July 1976 a federal judge ordered the Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare (HEW) to develop regulations.
With the continued federal failure to enforce Section 504, Disability activists staged demonstrations in Washington D.C. and in each of the ten HEW offices across the country. This sit in lasted twenty-five days. Judy Heumann helped lead one of the largest sit-ins of federal offices.

“Oh deep in my heart, I do believe that we shall overcome today,” protesters sang at the sit-ins.
These protests gathered allies from local and national labor unions who joined protestors and wrote statements of support.
When phone lines were cut, the Butterfly Brigade, who were a group of gay men who patrolled streets to stop antigay violence, smuggled in walkie talkies.
The Black Panthers provided one hot meal a day, and Chicano activists brought food regularly.
Chuck Jackson, who was part of the Black Panthers, joined the protest by provided attendant-care services for Disabled Black Panthers in the sit-ins and other protest members.
Increasing media attention brought the focus of the nation. Images and video of disabled people crawling up the steps to reach the sit-in were heavily publicized.
Four weeks into the occupation, HEW secretary Joseph Califano signed the enforcement regulations, thus ensuring all programs receiving federal funding could not discrimination based on disability.
