We host two Fandom Creation Nights (FCN) per month, complete with prompts and banners. Let your imagination run wild, and come create with us!

Hello! Firstly, thank you so much for all you do for the sesskag fandom. We are indebted to you ♥️. Secondly, I just saw your reblog about FanFiction.Net and the possible need to download some older sesskag fics that are only stored on that site. Do you know of the big ones that need to be saved? I'd be more than happy to help download some for prosperity's sake. We cannot let these things get lost and I'd be willing to bet there would be other that would like to help keep them! Sorry, I ran out of space in the last ask! Or could we perhaps start a masterlist on this blog that people can contribute to and make note of fics to save? I hope that makes some sense and I'm just speaking rubbish! 😂♥️♥️

I can definitely start a masterlist if people feel there is a need for such. To begin with, it would be easy enough to go over the rec lists we've created here at the archive and make note of any fics that have been only posted on FFnet.

The immediate ones I would want to see saved that come to mind are fics by Tally Mark and Just A Starving Writer and some of RosieB's fics, but I'm sure there are plenty of other authors who only have their fics posted on FFnet. That's why I appealed to the fandom as a whole, everyone has read different fics and has different favourites so everyone together could name/save much more fics than one person alone.

Another tip I might offer for anyone who is willing to save fics and would want to keep them organised is a software called Calibre. I personally use it with ebooks and it's very handy.

Inktober 2017

I tell it to myself every year.  Every year I say, “Jasmyn,” I says “Jasmyn we’re gonna do Inktober this year I mean it!” But every year my depression gets the best of me and before I know it, October is over and I miss it EVERY. YEAR. 

WELL NOT THIS YEAR LADIES AND GENTS. By george I’m standing up to my damn depression and self doubt and I’m gonna do it!  Put that art degree of mine to some good use again.  And to keep myself from not having any inspirational ideas and skipping a day, I took 31 of my favorite fandoms and things and used a random generator to mix em up and pair them with the official Inktober prompts set by Jake Parker.  So, here’s the list of what I’ll be doing this coming Inktober:

How did you become a fan of the Inuyasha fandom?

I discovered Inuyasha on Adult Swim on Cartoon Network over 20 years ago. 

What are your favourite fanfic tropes as a writer?

To have the ML fall for the FL first.

Fake relationship turned lovers is always a fun read. 

Which work of yours is your personal favourite? The one you are most proud of?

Dear Sesshoumaru. After reading fanfiction for over two decades I finally dipped my toe in to start my own. Writing it helped me through a rough time in my life and gave me the creative outlet I needed.

Which SessKag fanfiction of another author is your go-to choice for a great read?

Numbing The Pain by Angelic Memories is one I go back to over and over.

What do you think makes a good story?

A good hook, something that will grab my attention. Also one that the writer has put time and work in to convey their vision.

Is there anything you need while writing? Snacks? Music? A comfy blanket?

I always have my tablet playing something in the background, right now it's Gilmore Girls (Probably why I wrote One, Two, Three...) and my cat who is constantly in the way climbing over my lap. Do I NEED her to do that? No. Will she do it anyways? Yes.

How do you get your ideas? In your dreams? The shower?

Normally it's when I am feeling tired and want a nap... I get cozy and ready to sleep and then my brain is like "Hey! You know what would be really fun to write???" Nap time turns into me grumpily writing out a plunnie. The other inappropriate time I get ideas is while driving and a song will hit me just right and an idea will form. More than once I have pulled off the road just to type out my idea before I forget it.

If you could meet an Inuyasha character, what would you tell them?

I plead the fifth... I am known to make a fool of myself in front of people I admire so I would rather have Sesshoumaru melt me then talk to him. 

As a writer, what would your spirit animal be?

A puppy? Because I go through stages where I write, write, write and get so much done and then other times I crash and just... nothing. I'm kaput and need rest.

What is your kryptonite as a writer?

Dragging out a story... slow burn means slow burn! 

What advice would you give someone who wants to start writing?

Do it. Write whatever comes to you whether it's for fun or a way to vent your problems. You don't always have to share what you write, it can be just for you. At one point years ago, I wanted to start writing, so I did what I always do when I want to try something new. I researched. I googled creative writing classes, best programs from writers, and anything I could think of, but in the end, I still never wrote anything, thinking I couldn't. So almost a year ago I was struggling mentally and just needed a new outlet, so I opened Word and started typing. I learned it doesn't have to be perfect, just write what you feel is write because ultimately, only you need to like it. Thank you for reading my rant.

How did you become a fan of the Inuyasha fandom?

I've loved Inuyasha since the days of Adult Swim in the early 2000s, when I was still in middle school. It was the second anime I ever got into (after Sailor Moon). However, I didn't start reading Inuyasha fanfiction until 2021 and writing until 2023.

What are your favourite fanfic tropes as a writer?

Soulmates, Love Confessions, Mutual Pining, Enemies to Lovers, and smut, of course. There's just something about a good love story that I find hard to resist.

And as a reader?

Same as above, really. I just really love love, y'know? And I love reading about my favorite characters falling in love. Though, I always need to have a happy ending, too!

Which work of yours is your personal favourite? The one you are most proud of?

Hmm, so far, I'm really proud of "in a barbie world". It was such a fun fic to write, though "the second hand unwinds" is a very close second. It's my baby, so I imagine in the end, it'll take first place.

Which SessKag fanfiction of another author is your go-to choice for a great read?

"Transgressions" by @wbficaholic. I can't hype this fic enough. It's the perfect combination of smut, romance, humor, and angst with a happy ending, and I tend to reread it often.

What makes a good story?

Character development, but also world-building. I love to be able to close my eyes and see the scenes play out in my head. 

Is there anything you need while writing? Snacks? Music? A comfy blanket?

My playlists and noise-canceling earbuds, a hot cup of green tea, and my computer. I do my best work when I can block out the world.

How do you get your ideas? In your dreams? In the shower?

Usually, they come to me when I'm lying in bed at night, trying to fall asleep—which then means I never actually get to sleep because I'm too busy planning things out in my mind. Sometimes inspiration will come from a song that's stuck in my head, or maybe a movie or a TV show. My Barbie fic, for instance, came to me when I came across the VHS case for the film "Life-Size".

If you could meet an Inuyasha character, what would you tell them?

Kagome—girl, aim higher. You deserve so much more than to feel like second best. Also, there's a certain daiyoukai lord who would surely treat you like the treasure you are. 

As a writer, what would your spirit animal be?

The llama (or alpaca), naturally.

What is your kryptonite as a writer?

I struggle the most with dialogue and having confidence in my work. I'm really introverted, so conversations don't come all that easily for me, and I think that's what causes me the most anxiety. Does this flow well? Is it a natural progression? Would the characters actually say something like this? I also tend to second-guess myself a lot and hesitate when it actually comes to hitting the post button.

What advice would you give someone who wants to start writing?

The easiest way to begin writing is to read read read. Find your style, develop your voice, and let your ideas flow. Write what you want to write, not what you think other people will want to read. You are your number one audience.

A good mix of everything. Well developed characters and plot, angst, adventure, romance, dramatic flare. There's so much that can go into a good story.

I prefer music and a hot drink, usually coffee or tea.

How do you get your ideas? In your dreams? In the shower?

Dreams, showers, people just talking to me. Sometimes other books or fics.

I would like to get drunk with Miroku. I feel like he would be a blast. 

As a writer, what would your spirit animal be?

I don't think I have one.

What is your kryptonite as a writer?

I am a very linear writer. I have to write from beginning to end. There is no skipping ahead so when I get stuck I just have to work through it before I can get where I want the plot to go.

What advice would you give someone who wants to start writing?

Just do it. You're not writing for anyone else but you.

Let's start off easy: how did you become a fan of the Inuyasha fandom?

An old friend of mine from middle school made me stay up late with her one night and watch an episode. I was immediately obsessed. I’ve been here loving these dogs ever since.

Art or Fanfic: which work of yours are you most proud of?

Oh, man. This is one of those questions that’s hard. The SessKag fic I’m most proud of would probably be The Arrangement. It was my first foray into writing smut, and I’m so proud of how it came out and how I grew as a writer with it.

Is there anything you don't like to draw?

Probably gore and action and stuff like that. I’m just not a super fan of that stuff anyway so drawing it would be difficult to have fun with.

What are your favourite fanfic tropes to write?

So many!!! But I love love love angst with a happy ending. Any of the tropes that cause the characters grief before they cross the happy finish line I’m a HUGE sucker for.

You're in a creative mood: how do you decide whether to write or to draw?

I decide to draw cuz it takes less brain power than sitting and writing lmao

Where do you find inspiration?

I get a lot of inspiration from music. I have several stories and art pieces directly inspired by songs. Movies/shows as well.

If you could spend one day in the feudal era - what would you do?

Hide.

Describe your dream project.

I’ve had a SessKag plot brewing for a while that I think of so often, but I’ve had writers block for the last year that’s made it hard to write. Arranged marriage, political intrigue, fantasy world-building…. I’m very excited about it.

If you could get the power/skill of one Inuyasha character: what would you choose?

I wish I had the muscle to haul around that giant boomerang like Sango does cuz… damn.

How did you become a fan of the Inuyasha fandom?

When I was about 8 years old, my older cousin and I were just starting to get into anime. She became obsessed with Inuyasha and since we spent a lot of time together I eventually became obsessed too. I remember recording the episodes on VHS tapes and watching them over and over again. I knew all the songs and today they are still on my spotify playlist.

What are your favourite fanfic tropes as a writer?

Romance, drama, angst, redemption, crack, friends to lovers, enemies to lovers, hurt/comfort, fluff, smut, virginity, drunk people, consent.

And as a reader?

DRAMA! SMUT! ROMANCE! ANGST! CRACK! I like almost everything, except fics that have controversial topics, illegal or immoral things.

Which work of yours is your personal favourite? The one you are most proud of?

Kagome's Will. It is my first story, and I have invested a lot of time and effort in it. Also with this story I was nominated in the feudal connection awards which made me very happy.

Which SessKag fanfiction of another author is your go-to choice for a great read?

I'm in love with Raindrops by YoukaiYume.

What do you think makes a good story?

Good pace. Good representation of the characters. Details that transport you to specific places. That you are able to feel what the characters feel.

Is there anything you need while writing? Snacks? Music? A comfy blanket?

Music related to the feelings I'm trying to represent. In the afternoon tea, in the morning coffee. Ambient lights. Good humour. If I was able to control the weather, I would put rain on demand too. Incense.

How do you get your ideas? In your dreams? Under the shower?

Things that happened to me or people I know. Songs (Music serves me a lot as inspiration). Things of daily life. Sometimes movies or k-dramas.

If you could meet an Inuyasha character - what would you tell them?

I would like to meet Kagome and tell her some things:  Please stop wearing only that damn uniform (there aren't seasons in feudal era? You don't feel cold? You don't have calluses on your feet with those shoes?). Abandon the feudal era and bring Sesshomaru with you ASAP. 

As a writer, what would your spirit animal be?

A fox. Because they adapt to change, and have a great fur.

What is your kryptonite as a writer?

Realizing that the plot of my story makes no sense or is losing its meaning.

What advice would you give someone who wants to start writing?

Don't hesitate, just do it!! Because if you don't, all those amazing stories won't see the light of day, and you won't find a story that fulfills everything you want to portray, so it's up to you to do it. While you write you will learn and improve as you go along.

All of those plus I like Sess somehow getting brought to the modern era and the well taking Kagome back further than it should so she meets Sesshomaru when he’s younger.

Which SessKag fanfiction of another author is your go-to choice for a great read?

I’ve read all of Kanna37’s stories probably 100 times each.

What do you think makes a good story?

I think you can tell when an author really likes the story they’re telling and that gives the story something more. 

Is there anything you need while writing? Snacks? Music? A comfy blanket?

No nothing special, just my laptop and a comfy place to sit.

How do you get your ideas? In your dreams? Under the shower?

Usually, while I’m doing mindless housework. It’s easy to get lost in your thoughts while you’re cleaning the same living room you’ve already cleaned a million times, I can think about my stories and that’s when I get new ideas.

If you could meet an Inuyasha character, what would you tell them?

I’d tell Kagome she was with the wrong brother, obviously lol. 

As a writer, what would your spirit animal be?

A hedgehog, I’m short and prickly.

What is your kryptonite as a writer?

Distractions, I have a terrible attention span so it’s very easy for me to get distracted and then the next thing I know, the whole time I allotted for writing that day is gone. It’s happened to me way too many times to count.

What advice would you give someone who wants to start writing?

Just do it, it’s probably not going to be great at first but keep trying and you’ll get better. It’s intimidating sitting in front of a blank page for the first time but once you get a few words on there, the rest will flow.
