A number of fanfiction authors are pulling their fics from Ao3 because people are illegally selling bound copies of these fics on etsy.

Pretty sure this hasn't happened to any of my stories. And I have given permission to folks to bind copies for personal use, which is perfectly legal and just and this post does not apply to those situations.

But this needs to be said:

If you are the kind of person who would download something from Ao3....bind it....and sell it on Etsy...you're dead to me.

The fact that people have the balls to take creative works that aren't theirs, that are provided for free to the world because of the joy it brings authors to share their stories with people who love the characters as much as we do, and turn around and sell them for HUNDREDS of dollars is gross and morally corrupt.

And the people who buy these copies, knowing they are putting the entire world of fanfic at risk, are just as bad.

It is ILLEGAL to sell fanfiction. It is immoral to buy it.

Fanfic exists in a liminal space where writers are protected because no money exchanges hands. The greed of a few is going to fuck it up for the rest of us. If you see bound fics for sale, please report the sellers.

Neat data fact to share with you all to put IFs into perspective…

The original novella of Viatica is 33k words. The completed IF Viatica is 170k words. That’s a 5x increase. 😳 While I did add a few scenes that weren’t in the original, that jump is mostly due to having 4 possible romance routes instead of just one, and 2 completely different endings.

So you IF authors out there with beautifully branching stories and unique routes, hats off to you. That is an enormous amount of labor and time. I myself didn’t know the amount of writing that goes into these. You have my immense respect and gratitude for telling your stories. You guys rock!

Let's start off easy: how did you become a fan of the Inuyasha fandom?

I was watching InuYasha AMVs in middle school (shout out Bad Boy by Cascada) and stumbled upon a link to a fic on FF.Net.   

Art or Fanfic: which work of yours are you most proud of?

While I do both, I am most proud of my fanfic writing. I feel like I’ve grown a lot as a writer with the love and support of the Crescent Dreams community. As for something I’m most proud of, I’d say For the Dancing and the Dreaming. That was my first long-form fic ever and I still love it to this day. 

Is there anything you don't like to draw?

Landscapes and backgrounds. No thx. 

What are your favourite fanfic tropes to write?

He falls first, fake dating, ballet/ice skater AU, idiots in love.

You're in a creative mood: how do you decide whether to write or to draw?

It’s a gamble on which mood I’m in xD If I can’t draw it I’ll write it and vice versa.

Where do you find inspiration?

My biggest inspirations come from my fellow creators, songs, and movies that I’m watching. 

If you could spend one day in the feudal era, what would you do?

Chill in a hot spring and gossip with the girlies. 

Describe your dream project.

My fic Pure, Beautiful, Wicked was initially a doujinshi idea. I hope one day that I can make that happen.

If you could get the power/skill of one Inuyasha character, what would you choose?

Hmmm, I’d have to say Kagura’s wind manipulation and fan skills. Badass and versatile!

Jeff the killer (specifically the jeffrey woods story) is one of the most bad written creepypasta I've ever read, it lack many things in the story to make it good and that's facts sorry bro. (This ain't even an opinion this is just a fact many people already knew and accept, hence why there's more than a lot of headcanon to him and rewrites of his origins.) Glazing Jeff's story that were written by some edgy 14 year old back in 2011 (that isn't even the original story mind you, the first story of Jeff was of Jeffrey Hodek in 2008) is fucking insane lmaooo

ps, you can acknowledge a character story is bad while enjoying it. If you can't than how are your enjoyment genuine???

Yes, my enjoyment of Jeff the Killer is genuine. And yes, I do think it's a well written story. Yeah. That's right. I find it very relatable and I think the themes of bullying and mental health are intriguing and well explored. And the prose, while admittedly not Pulitzer-worthy, is masterful in its Hemingway-esque simplicity. Just because something is not 2 your taste doesn't mean it's bad.

And yeah. I know the original was Jeffrey Hodek. And guess what? i think that one is VASTLY inferior. The one with Randy and his goons is much more realistic (who gets rid of acid in a bathtub?).

I am not "glazing". I am simply appreciating a piece of art. Who are you 2 judge how others enjoy art? What is it someone once told me?...."If you can't handle it, I'm afraid fandom spaces aren't for you?"

So, I've been noticing how rude some anons have been to some authors and some IFs on Tumblr. It made me kind of sad, it's unfair to all of you, so I thought: "Why not do the opposite? It would be nice!".

So, I just wanted to come here and say that you, like many other authors, are amazing people with even more amazing games. You should always be proud of your work and the effort you put into everything you do. You need to have determination to do what you love, be proud of that!

No need to reply, that's not why I was writing this, I just wanted to send this message to all the authors and game creators that I follow and admire, a form of support, even if it's small. 🤗😊

Prior to 2025, I never reported spam or scamming on fanfiction.net because if it happened, it was too rare to be a problem. Since 01/01/2025, I have reported 28 different accounts and have another sitting in my inbox. I’m not feeling super great about that, and as I look for different possible platforms, I am considering Ko-Fi. I don’t know much about it, but I know a fellow author (who also started with fanfiction) who found success with it. Does anyone have thoughts on that platform or suggestions about another one that might be helpful?

Having said all that, I’m also still trying to get everything over onto wattpad. It hates Restitution for some reason, but I haven’t had issues with the other stories I’m slowly migrating over there. Including Hello Hurricane, which I just posted there today! If you want to see Season 4 Castiel (after endless centuries of alternating torture, isolation, and mind games) struggle to trust reality after Sam and Dean find him in an abandoned hospital at the start of Season 5, you might wanna check it out!

We are so, so close to having the full cover for Collision Course done, and I am so excited to post it and update my website. I am salivating. I have also edited 54k, so that’s great, and I’m definitely not panicking about having this done in time.

No update this Wednesday, but the nest chapter of Rehearsing Tragedies will come out on 04/09!
