lo! a human person whom no danger nor destruction ever follows!! do NOT look into the darkness beneath his hat no it does not matter how much his normal human eyes are glowing do NOT look. looking too closely gets you too close to his teeth. which are also normal

Tamaas (eventually Tamara)
Addressed as: Madam* (she/her)
Age: 23
Height: 5’0”
Occupation:
Main Skills: Shadowy, Watchful
Prominent Quirks: Melancholy
Closest to: The Urchins
*it's a form of address that feels strange compared to its Varchaasi equivalent, but she no longer has any claim to that title.
Backstory below the cut:
She never questioned her life, much like she never questioned her love for Mihir and her native Varchas. One rarely has to when all is well and life is easy.
She doesn’t understand why her brother did not share this contentedness. Fraternal twins, they were ever-close, sharing everything, but his interest in the Jewel-Turbaned Youth and his fanciful club was something that she simply could not get her mind around. The rest of the family paid it no mind—they’re harmless anyway. Let him have his fun.
She doesn’t know what it was that stopped her from retiring to bed that one fateful evening, a nagging in the back of her head that something was off. When she stepped back out into the yellow evening lamplight, a familiar shape slipping down the streets confirmed her intuition. Her brother made it as far as the Mirrored Gate before she clamped her hand around his wrist. Was he mirror-mad? What could he possibly be thinking? Who would want to leave the light, and to set sail on a steamer with a Tamaas captain he’d only met that morning? She’d argued with him, begging him to see sense, until they were both shouting. Deep in their quarrel, she’d barely noticed the shape in the mirror pressed up against his back until it was too late. It struck and he screamed, jerking to the side. Hand still latched around his arm, she slipped in turn, down the slope beyond the gate and both of their lives ended in an instant.
She’d later piece together what had happened from The Sympathetic Captain, most of her memories a blur, and Mihir knows, she’d had enough time on that ship to play her retelling back in her head in endless combinations. Before her brother had even met the ground, before his head had hit stone and his heart had stopped beating, he was Tamaas. As was she, not a fraction of a second later. The Captain had heard the commotion and was not far from the bottom of the cliff. She had insisted that the Captain take them both, that no one in the city would help them anymore. She had to get him to the next port where he could recover.
How his body had disappeared a day later, on a ship miles from the coast, was not one the Captain could answer, no matter how much she raged, how many objects in the cabin she smashed in her fugue. The Captain could only offer a sympathetic ear and a cup of tea.
When the ship finally docked in London she disappeared into the darkness, too ashamed of her grief to say goodbye. Her life was over, but somehow she would have to keep living, Tamaas or otherwise.

Imagine if Shadow High didn't immediately go downhill after series 1 and instead they focused on giving the SH line just darker, edgier, and more muted fashion. Rainbow High could have focused on more colorful and whimsical designers (think Vivienne Westwood) and Shadow High could have given us more serious, dark, and edgier (I'm thinking specifically of Gareth Pugh but the world is bigger than that).
Look at this!!! These pieces are just as complicated as anything else they've put out and do like like something high school students could be seen out in.

Shadow at the Water’s Edge
Tradition plays an important role in this Nancy Drew game, just like tradition plays a role in fashion. Use some classic, time-honored pieces in this outfit that invokes the spirit of SAW. A bow blouse, a floral kimono, simple burgundy pants, gold loafers, a gold hairbow, and a box bag create the base. Fan earrings, an origami crane necklace, gold bamboo bracelets, a floral phone case, a bow ring, and a cherry blossom ring complete the look.

second chance shadow doesn’t regret having died, or the nature of his revival, until he’s again reminded it means he’s unable to return to his original timeline.
that doesn’t bother him at first either—it’s whatever. maybe he’s missing out on some fun places he otherwise should’ve been able to see for himself, like white park zone or sylvania castle at night, etc etc. he can find places like that elsewhere. he’s got access to every other place in the multiverse now, after all.
but nothing can take the place of the ARK and all the memories tied to it. he’ll never have the chance to return to it and collect keepsakes or photos. no cork board filled with those photos of him and maria or pictures they’ve drawn together or scraps of paper with childish scrawl repeating lines from books they liked, no baby blanket, no gaudy scarves or prop outfits she used to dress up in on good days, not even anything so clinical like medical reports or details of his own existence.
in his scrapbook, which he’s kept since the day he had access to a camera in his second life, there is a lovingly-crafted collection of his adventures and new experiences. it’s well-worn with care and use; there are so many extra stapled-in pages it’s practically doubled in size, the edges are all faded and the slightly-too-big pages or bookmarks are bent and rounded at the corners. every photo, with handwritten dates and old-fashioned descriptions, is a polaroid. of places, of important people—like metal. a beautiful retelling of his life without her.
on the inside back cover of it is a mock photo of gerald and maria he’s drawn from memory. maria deserved to be in that book too, but he wasn’t revived with any of his belongings. a drawing is the best he can do. every detail of maria is perfectly rendered down to the stitches in her dress, while the details of gerald’s face are foggy and unsure at best.
it’s the best he can do. it’s the only thing he can do to keep her memory alive alongside everyone else.
