So yeah, I've watched Yokai gakuen and I love it, it's like a power rangers but more furry. The lore is incredible and the characters are really well writen. The only thing I don't enjoy is season 3, it just feels like it was made just to gain more money, the season 2 final was the perfect way to end this anime. And yes, Fubuki is my favorite character, I can't express how much I love her! I love her design, aspirations, personality, lore ...

So go and Watch Yo-kai Watch gakuen right now!! You won't regret it! But, it's a good idea to watch Yokai Watch Shadowside first so you understand some things

Today (March 30th, 2018), the final episode of the original Yo-kai Watch anime has aired.

Akihiro Hino, CEO of Level-5, has made a tweet with a small statement regarding this, and the future of the series:

“今日のアニメで、ケータの物語が一旦ひと区切りになります。でも、妖怪ウォッチは終わりません。これからもいろんな方向で続きますよ！4月からのシャドウサイドもお楽しみに！”

“With today's anime, the story of Keita ends for now. But, Yokai Watch is not over. It will continue to go into many directions from here on out! Please enjoy Shadowside, starting in April, too!”

I think it's very likely that yokai watch is ending. Ykw♪ ended a while ago and now the manga is ending. Hino has mentioned his new project being part of the yokai franchise and not the yokai watch franchise. This may not be a spinoff like Shadowside or Y Academy.

Since Level 5 is going to be localizing games again, I think its likely that the new project will get localized. I know people have been saying that we might get yokai watch 4 localized becaude of Lvl5's revival in the West but I dont think it possible anymore. I think SS and YA are going to get skipped over in the West. Localizing ykw4 and YA would mean that the anime would need to get dubbed. Localizing some type of revival (?) would be easier than having to continue where yokai watch left off.

While I’m impressed at the anime committing to retiring Ash I can’t help but have mixed feelings and a sense of dread.

Ash in a lot of was was functionally the best known mascot alongside Team Rocket, and to loose them now feels like the series has lost a bit of its soul. The new anime having this slightly generic vibe doesn’t help either.

I’m sure the new kids will be lovely, but this situation reeks New Gen drama that’s hurt other series because of fan backlash: Yokai Watch, Kinnikuman, BuddyFight, Naruto and others have all gone through this, and it wasn’t pretty. Now to be fair there were other factors at play and Boruto largely seems to have evaded this, but the point stands the attempt to move on didn’t work...

It’s worth mentioning this happened in a fashion in the anime where Team Rocket was supposed to retire during Best Wishes, but fan backlash at the mere thought guaranteed their return after a brief break.

The new generation vibe also feeds into the new kids, who feel like they could be, as of typing, Ash and Go’s kids. The new lead girl looks like Ash and Serena smooshed together, and along with wearing Ash’s old hat logo as a pin, it feels like a cheeky conclusion to long standing shipping discourse lol. (If the girl is unrelated, the pin is probably just a cute reference all the same.)

Already the fanbase is pretty split between upset at Ash leaving and overjoyed at starting fresh. I’m curious to see how long this goes on for once the epilogue OVA ends and the new anime starts and how that may feed into the future of anime projects…

Personally I was fine with Ash and Pikachu because of how the anime functioned as a silly continuous adventure, and I semi suspect Ash will continue to journey anyway, we just won’t see it anymore going forward, so it’s honestly very bittersweet. Especially since I was looking forward to see how Ash (potentially Go too) and Team Rocket would adapt to Scarlet and Violet’s storyline. Ah well.

As eluded to prior, I think my main concern about this is it’s gonna get unfairly flung in the mud by various factions for various reasons, and I can’t shake the feeling the new kids are gonna be Rodimus Prime like martyrs, and like Yokai Watch Shadowside, they’re gonna revert back to Ash and Team Rocket because of backlash. And that’s in spite of a grand finale they seem to be building towards that addresses some lingering loose ends for Ash and co…

I hope I’m wrong though and this takes off, I’m sure it’ll be fine, but past experiences has me very wary (and weary) something absolutely stupid is going to happen.

Lowder's Horrible and Weird Yo-Kai AU Part 5: Countdown to Escape Part 2

Alright here is the finale of the series before this AU's events of shadowside. Read Part 1, 2, 3 and 4 to get the full story and ideas.

A few months later, Lord Enma is overthrown by his old frenemy, Lord Ananta, and wants Komasan dead because of Swartz telling him that the komainu would kill him if he took power(Komasan would not really kill someone he doesn't know unless their evil) but Komasan hears this from Hovernyan being in the palace at the time and runs away with Kamen Rider Decade and Kamen Rider Diend to another universe, so they can train to become a lot stronger but Komasan uses a projection that can see things that happen in other universes and sees that some people are getting attacked by Ananta's men and the trio save the people and uses a way to indicate to his friends that they will be back in 30 years by Decade using illusion Ridercard, which summons two more Decade. After that event, the main group, now, trains for 30 years to become stronger to defend the weak and for their friends.

During these 30 years, Nate and Katie got married and had Natsume(Summer) and Tate(Keisuke) as their children. Usapyon got married to a yo-kai he started to date after breaking up with jibanyan named Snow Spect-Hare. Jibanyan gets over her crush obsession on Komasan and moves on to go back to live in an intersection, where she trains by destroying trucks with her strength. Yuki, sadly, couldn't stop her ancestor, Goku Blizzaria, from taking over her body, which means Komasan now needs to save her if she is freed from the seal. Komasan is trying to master his soul abilities and Rider power, Decade and Diend are trying to master all of the power they have. Swartz starts Mechagodzilla ver 5 AKA Kiryu-5 to counter everything that Megaoptimuszilla has to throw and starts to use the resources that Goku Blizzaria has to create Another Ridewatches to turn more people into Another Riders to make an army of Another Riders. The drivers of Jibanyan and Usapyon were put into a storage so no one could use them but will be used again when Komasan, Decade and Diend return in 30 years.

Alright, this post is gonna be cut short because I think Shadowside is probably gonna need its own post.

Yo-kai Watch Episode 170 Subs

Okay, so I managed to squeeze out at least one episode this month (possibly 2 depending on when 161 gets done...it’ll happen guys I promise). Now don’t get too excited because it’s still not gonna be a regular schedule for now :L (not that I have that many more episodes anyway...) Today’s new Yo-kai was Kechirashi. This Yo-kai’s name comes from ke (毛), meaning “hair,” and chirashi (散らし), meaning “scattering” (in this context anyway). In the English localization, the name they went with was Shedwin, which I think is kinda cute actually. Not like I can think of a punny name anyways. As for some miscellaneous stuff that might’ve flown over your head: toward the end of the Oni Stars segment, Tomnyan says “Call me and I will appear, meow-meow-meow-meow!” This is a reference to an old 60s anime called Hakushon Daimao (meaning “Achoo the Great Demon King,” with the official English version by Saban in 1992 being called “Bob in a Bottle”). In the show, a boy possesses a lamp that summons a genie named Hakushon/Achoo (or Bob) with a sneeze, and when this happens, Hakushon says “Call me and I will appear, ja-ja-ja-jaaan!” This catchprase was localized, but I went with the original because the localized version mentions sneezing and there was no sneezing in the scene in this episode so...yeah. In the Board Meeting segment, Whisper’s segment idea is a parody of a 70s Japanese show called “The Unfettered Shogun” (Abarenbo Shogun) that I don’t exactly know how to explain in brief so here’s it’s Wikipedia page :L Finally, I threw in a couple of references in the Nyanpachi part in the little mini-titles that show up every so often...the one that says “Yo-kai Eleven” was directly translated, but there are two others I put in. No hints this time :P (Don’t worry, they don’t drastically alter the literal meaning too much.) Oh yeah, apparently Shadowside is ending and going back to the old comedy-styled YW in April. Can’t say I expected this to happen so soon, especially because SS is doing well ratings-wise. I’m not particularly thrilled to go back either after the really bad note the original show ended on, but who knows, maybe they’ll go back to doing it right. As I’ve mentioned on Twitter, I will not even think about working on subs for the new show until both the original and SS are completed or at least close to completion, cuz three shows at once is just way too much. Also Noroinohanako is getting back to Shadowside in between other translation projects so please stop directing me your Shadowside questions because I don’t translate those anyway I’m just the QC guy.

A few potential pointers on promoting a roleplay community/fc/linkshell, and some pointers on how to make your community feel like a good one; in the highlight of Balmung being locked again. From my own P.O.V, so take it as that and not anything else.

- Be unconditionally friendly and welcoming. It doesn’t matter where people came from, or what they’re into, it matters that they are here now, and they’re looking to you for advice. (Putting the rest under a read more cause this is so long agfklgh)

- Don’t be afraid to drop your bias. People will find the sides of any community that aren’t so shiny and nice to look at eventually; being real about it instead of denying that these shadowsides exist better equips someone to deal with them. This isn’t a free pass to drop tact and bitch away though. Big emphasis on that it has to be constructive, and not gossip or blatant degradation.  - Be ready to provide resources, and put out these resources where they can be accessible to everyone. Different platforms is a good idea, not everyone uses community sites (The rpc, tumblr, etc.), not everyone uses discord, not everyone wants to be in a busy discord server, and so on. A newcomer is going to need where to go, and guidance is always better than trying to sift through poorly described FC bios.  - Work together. FC’s with FC’s, linkshells with linkshells, discords with discords. This is especially important in smaller communities. Try to avoid having a person that acts like a “server leader” or “the one that does the things”; it’s a touch toxic for one thing, but another thing is that said person is at risk of burning out fast. Additionally, really complex ideas can come to proper life when you have enough hands to lift it.  - Accept that people sometimes move on. People want to be where their friends are, and that’s fair. Don’t beg people to stay, don’t proclaim it to be something they’ll regret, don’t end up sounding like that terribly clingy ex we all have. Do reach out, ask if you can stay in touch; do collaborate with where they end up- you have a walking, breathing link afterall.   - Check your essentials.  * RP tags on housing made/meant for RP  * RP tags when you RP. We’re not stuck in the times where walk-mode was the give-away.   * Mention of RP in your project description, additional mentions for sub-type if applicable.  * Foster open world RP if you can. It doesn’t have to be inclusive, just bumbling into a group of people doing a group of people-things in the middle of Somewhere Really Wet, Eastern Thanalan, can be an awesome and alluring experience. RP generates RP, so make it seen!  - Advertise where it makes sense.  * Party Finder - You may get the odd confused comment but it’s okay. You want to focus on the visibility, not the trolls.  * Shout Chat - Once a day is better than once every five minutes.  * Social media / community sites. I kid you not, I’ve seen RP FC’s advertised on Facebook. Thinking “Well it’s not going to be seen” and then not posting anywhere is how you guarantee that it’s not going to be seen. 

This turned out really long but I hope it can help/inspire people to do what they can for where-ever they belong.

Yokai Watch Corocoro Leaks (May 2018)

Corocoro leaks have been coming out, so I will translate under the readmore.

Beware of spoilers, naturally!

This month’s issue doesn’t have a lot of new stuff. It mostly summarizes information about the Yokai Arcs and the Yokai Watch Eruda toy that we know already. It did reveal release dates for both, though.

(Also if you’re wondering about my spelling of “Eruda”, I explained a bit here.)

So this time around, I will only translate the parts that seem new enough, and summarize the rest.

To put it briefly, the pages go over how using the Arcs with the Watch works. How the Arcs are a new way to summon yokai, how you can insert the Arcs, how the direction you turn them determines Shadowside or Lightside, how it makes sounds, all that stuff.

There is only some tiny bits of new information, which I will go over next.

"Yo-kai Watch Shadowside" Film's New Trailer Teases Guest Appearance of "GeGeGe no Kitaro" Characters

The official website for Yo-kai Watch Shadowside: Oniou no Fukkatsu (The Return of The Oni King), the fourth feature film in the Yo-kai Watch anime franchise, released a 100-second new trailer introducing its main characters, including the two human protagonists, Natsume Amano (CV: Mone Kamishiraisi) and Touma Tsukinami (Yudai Chiba).

  Kamishiraishi is best known for her portray as Mitsuha Miyamizu in Makoto Shinkai's mega-hit anime film Kimi no Na wa./Your Name. (2016), and her character Natsume is confirmed as a daughter of the ongoing TV anime series' protagonist Keita Amano. Chiba's best known tokusatsu role is Arata/Gosei Red in Tensou Sentai Goseiger (2010-2011)

  In addition, the previously-reported guest appearance of the seven main characters from Shigeru Mizuki's Gegege no Kitaro manga series can be also confirmed in the end of the clip. The seven are:

Kitaro, his father Medama Oyaji, Nezumi Otoko, Neko Musume, Sunakake Babaa, Konaki Jijii, and

Ittan Momen.

  In the film, while Kitaro is voiced by 80-year-old voice actress Masako Nozawa (Son Goku in Dragon

Ball/Dragon Ball Z), who voiced the character in the first two Gegege no Kitaro TV anime series in 1968-

1972, Nezumi Otoko is newly played by Akio Ohtsuka, a son of the original voice actor for the character,

the late Chikao Ohtsuka (1929-2015).

  Yo-kai Watch Shadowside: Oniou no Fukkatsu is set for a release in Japan on December 16, 2017.
