Based on Kvitebjørn Kong Valemon by Theodor Kittelsen. As a kid I always really enjoyed that painting, and the norwegian folktale it depicts. So naturally I had to recreate it with Halsin and Gaia.
#halsin#bg3#i mean the story isn't very similar at all#just the imagery!#the princess sees a bear with a golden wreath she's dreamed of - she agrees to go live with him in exchange for it#at night the bear transforms into a man#well... she can't resist temptation and she looks#turns out he was cursed by a witch#the only way to be free was to keep the princess with him without seeing him in his human form for x amount of years#now that she's looked him however the witch won and he must now marry the witch instead#so he takes off#she follows after the best she can#and eventually frees him#oh hey that last part actually applies#and then they lived happily ever after

I cannot recommend this fic enough, it is an absolute delight so far. It's a classic, traditionally lighthearted fanfiction trope being handled dead serious and it's everything I didn't know I needed. It doesn't hesitate to dig its claws (haha) into visceral discomfort for our lead, but it still has moments that made me laugh out loud. Can't wait to see what happens next!

If Kipperlilly DOES end up betraying Porter/Jace as part of a secret other scheme she has (whether good or evil) and it has to do with saving Lucy, I just know she’s going to be a bitch about it and pull a ‘sorry, I only save High Five Heroes’ before leaving her other friends to die or some shit. And then she will take her final form: Magic Betty from Adventure Time, betraying her allies and saving her frost gf at the expense of the world. It would also parallel what Ankarna is going through (‘your girlfriend’s out of town, it sucks’, becoming a little imperialist rage machine under the influence of Porter/Sunstone but not being able to fully turn on Lucy despite going against her values and turning into a violent weirdo). i love finding old fanfic ideas in my notes app
#old like i think i wrote this one around this time last year#it's basically EMT!Robin doing a first aid demonstration at a high school#and there's a bit where everyone can ask questions about being an EMT and all that#and robin talks about how her actual dream was to study linguistics and maybe go into translating or teaching#so someone asks what made her change her mind and she talks about how her best friend (steve obvs) saved a life once#and after that realised /that/ was what he was good at and they made all these plans and he started going to school for it#and then he died. and for awhile it was the only thing that made her feel close to him again so she went into the course for him#and years later it's something she actually weirdly enjoys - if only for the routine of it all#she likes that her background in linguistics means that she can make all sorts of people more comfortable just by talking to them#she still doesnt have the stomach for it the way steve always had though - it's supposed to be a buckingham fic sorta#so eventually she was going to meet chrissy and they were going to get close and chrissy was gonna like. inspire robin to follow her dream#idk i have a couple 'robin lives' fics where she has to deal with the fallout of steve dying when vecna comes back

BECAUSE IM WORKING WITH THE GUY WHO SOLD HER TO ZARIEL#SHE WOULDNT JUST QUIETLY FOLLOW ME *AND HIM* TO THE MORPHIC POOL#shes literally the best character on my team so gameplaywise itd be a fucking nightmare but NARRATIVELY SPEAKING#karlach should at the very least leave the party#she literally leaves the party if you side with the goblins and you want me to believe that thats more egregious than siding with gortash#like yeah youve been in it together for a lot longer by the time you hit act 3 but STILL.#she can expect you to just be fucking with him before the last scene before the morphic pool idc#but wouldnt it make sense if she attacked you during or immediately after that#maybe shed even only attack if shes in the party when you go there. maybe she just leaves if shes not#big fan of consequences for my actions. like when i had 0 backup at moonrise#i just think karlach wouldnt stay with me. not with everything ive done. the slayer. bhaal's gift. gortash ALL OF IT#i like act 3 a lot because it finally lets me be the worst. ok. el isnt a guy who kills hes a villain who occasionally helps others now#and obviously. orin & gortash my beloveds (derogatory)#but MANNNN missed opportunity#i havent reached the ending proper so id totally believe karlach & wyll leave if you decide to control the brain but WHATS THE POINT#at that point that isnt a consequence its just part of the ending#i deliberately helped the grove so shed stay with me till act 3. now make me regret that
