“Fool Me Once” - Part 3
Pairing: Kacchako, Bakugou Katsuki/Uraraka Ochako
CW: Cheating, Underage Drinking
<- Previous Part | From the Beginning
~~~~~~~
“Jeez, Bakugou,” Frog Face croaked. “You don’t look so good.”
Katsuki stabbed his chopsticks right through the heart of the egg yolk in his bowl and swirled its golden blood into his gohan.
“Are you sick or something?” Tsu added.
“Sick of fucking bullshit,” he grumbled under his breath, trying not to glare at Deku across the room.
He was sitting with Tenya and Shoto and Ochako like it was just another bright and shiny UA day.
Tsu was about to join them too judging by the extra chocolate anpan balanced on an extra cup of tea made with cinnamon and honey just how Ochako liked it.
Bitterly, Katsuki noted that Deku should be the one getting her breakfast. Especially if he liked her enough to keep dragging her along while going on museum dates with brainy blondes.
His breakfast turned tasteless in his mouth.
God how he wanted to think of anything else.
“His bad mood’s my fault I think Tsu,” Eijirou said, stepping between them, shielding Tsu from the miasma of rage slowly oozing off of Katsuki. “Tetsu crashed at my place last night and we might have gotten a little rowdy watching old Schwarzenegger movies.”
“Schwarzenegger?” she questioned.
“He’s this super manly Austrian bodybuilder turned American Actor turned American Governor.” Ei flexed his bicep. “You should see his guns. The man’s an inspiration!”
“How does being muscly qualify someone to be a politician?”
Ei shrugged. “Don’t know. America’s weird like that.”
“I guess.” Tsu walked off to join the rest of her happily ignorant crew.
Katsuki hoped Eijirou would follow suit and leave him to stew in his misery, but the redhead was not so easily shaken.
“Bro,” he said as he sat down, “I don’t want to tell you how to feel your feelings. But you gotta at least come up with some sort of excuse or else you’re gonna start raising suspicion.”
“Maybe I want to raise suspicion,” he snipped, stabbing at his breakfast. “Maybe if people were a little more suspicious around her, people would get away with window shopping girls like their trying to pick a new pair of stupidly priced, stupidly big sneakers to wear on their stupidly freckled feet.”
“Kats, we went over this. It’s not like—”
“I know what it’s not like.”
Katsuki grabbed some hot sauce and dumped it liberally over the rice. Maybe that would bring some taste back to it.
Eijirou sighed. “So what do you want to do?”
“It’s not about what I want to do. If it was about what I want to do, it’d already be done and I’d be arrested.”
“Then what can I do to help?”
Katsuki huffed a laugh. “Make numb nuts over there fucking choose a chick.”
Eijirou stroked his chin in thought. “I don’t think I can make him but I could probably hype up one of the girl’s a lot. Question is who?”
“Who what?” Mina asked.
The bubbly pink gossip also known as Eijirou’s girlfriend sat down beside the pair. Antennas and curls bouncing. Katsuki swore they gave her a super hearing quirk none of the knew about.
“Who Kats is going to be for Halloween!” Ei quickly lied. “He doesn’t have a costume yet.”
“Oooo!” Mina squealed excitedly. “He could be our Subotai!”
“You’re what?” Katsuki growled.
“Ei’s going as Conan the Barbarian, I’m going as Valeria. I’ve still got enough fabric to whip up one more toga for ya if you want to be out trusty archer,” she smiled.
“Yeah, bro! We’d have to find you a wig and stuff but I’d bet you’d look damn good in a handlebar mustache,” Ei added.
Katsuki shuddered at the thought, recalling the patchy handlebar ‘stache his dad had sported for way too long, insisting it would eventually grow into a beard.
“And want to scratch my face off all night? No fucking thank you,” he said. “I ain’t going to the party anyway.”
“What? Why?” Mina asked.
“Because why the fuck would I want to be surrounded by a bunch of drunk, screaming idiots all night?”
“Because you’d be drunk too?”
“Tch. And deal with feeling like fucking shit the next morning?” he washed the newly added heat of his breakfast down with his coffee. “No fucking thank you.”
Mina pouted and looked down at her breakfast forlorn. “Guess a certain brainiac will be disappointed then.”
His coffee soured.
Mina peered up at him and smiled, clearly misreading his pursed expression.
“Gotcha there. Bet you’re thinking twice about going now that you know Miss Shield will be there,” she mocked. “Denki told me all about y’all’s little study dates. So cute!”
“It wasn’t a date,” he grumbled. “I’m just helping her out with her apprenticeship project.”
“By flexing your muscles?” she tugged her earlobe playfully. “News travels fast around here.”
Not fast enough, Katsuki thought.
“Do you know who Mel’s going as for Halloween?” Ei asked
“No clue,” she said. “Which means she might be open to doing a couples costume with someone.”
Katsuki chugged the rest of his coffee and stood. “I’m going for a run.”
“Awww come on Kat! There’s no need to be bashful!” Mina called after him as he walked away.
He flipped her off and headed outside to clear his head with the crisp morning air.
🔍🔍🔍🔍🔍
He had managed to avoid direct contact with all three of them for most of the day, thank god.
Did it mean he had to be an absolute jerk all day to do it? Sure. But honestly it felt good to be a—
“Jerk,” Ochako smacked him in the back of the head, surprising him and jolting him to his feet.
“What the fuck?!”
Ochako released her quirk, letting herself down to the ground slowly. “I should be asking you the same thing! What the fuck crawled up your ass today?”
“Nothing crawled up my ass,” he snapped back. “And how the fuck did you find me anyway?”
Barely anybody knew about his spot in the woods. Only Ei.
Had he told Ochako? Was he setting this up as an excuse for him to tell her what Deku was up to?
“I followed you!”
Oh.
“You followed me? Why the fuck would you do that?”
“Because you’ve been acting like a jerk all day, avoiding me *and* Melissa, then next thing I know you’re randomly stomping off into the woods,” she threw her arms up in the air. “I was worried!”
“About me in the woods?!”
“About you in general! You only act this off and jerky when something’s really bothering you. So what’s up?”
Katsuki chewed the inside of his cheek.
“And don’t say ‘nothing’,” she added with a huff.
He couldn’t tell her outright.
But she would know if he lied.
“I think Melissa’s seeing someone else,” he said. Not a lie.
Ochako’s eyes widened, the angry furrow in her brow softening a bit.
“No,” she said so shocked and softly, he would’ve found it comforting any other time.
But now it felt like a twist of a knife.
“Oh no.” All the anger melted from her face. “You’re sure?”
Katsuki kept his eyes to the ground and tapped the toe of his shoe against it. “Pretty fucking sure.”
“Who is it? Someone from UA or—”
“Someone from her past, I think. So—”
“So you’re gonna win her back, right?”
He ran his hand down his face and sighed. “Cheeks I don’t—”
“If it’s someone from her past, then they’re probably from the US, right?” she said. “Which means they’re all the way over there and you’re here. Looking hot, making her laugh, being there for her… you can’t give up!”
“Look, it’s alright. I—”
“It’s not alright!” she insisted, stomping her foot for emphasis. “Bakugou Katsuki doesn’t give up! Not in the face of deadly villains and certainly not on winning the heart of a girl he likes!”
“Cheeks if she likes—”
“If she liked this rando so fucking much she’d just be with him instead of flirting with you,” she huffed.
Katsuki ground his teeth subconsciously, cutting into the side of his cheek and drawing a bit of blood.
Her footsteps crunched across the leaves towards him.
A pair of sparkling, kind, brown eyes blocked his view of the dying grass.
“What I’m saying is you still have a chance, Bakugou,” she smiled softly. “You’re here, they’re not. She won’t feel so lonely with you.”
“Tch. I don’t wanna be just a body to keep a bed warm.”
“You won’t be,” she said. “It might start like that, sure. But over time she’ll see how wonderful you are and fall in love with you slowly, then all at once.” She took his hands in hers and ran the soft pads of her thumbs over his knuckles. “But it won’t happen unless you try.”
The thought of winning Melissa back was far from his mind. He wanted to get even.
He wanted her to hurt just as much as he did, as much as Cheeks would if she ever found out.
Deku too. Fuck however innocent or love torn he was. The nerd had to choose.
He’d make him choose.
His churning thoughts had a new target to focus on, the sparks of a plan already starting to smolder in his mind.
Ochako smiled. “There you are.”
“What?”
“There’s that Dynamight determination,” Ochako cheered. “You want to win now, don’t ya?”
Katsuki smirked. “Yeah, Cheeks. I wanna win.”
🔍🔍🔍🔍🔍
There were a lot of ways to win, but the right way to win was what his mind couldn’t settle on.
Threatening Deku to choose head on wouldn’t work. After the war he’d unfortunately (in this case) developed a spine. Fucker wouldn’t willingly hurt someone but Katsuki wouldn’t be surprised if he kept dragging his feet just to spite him. Or worst would tell Ochako that he’d pressured him to choose. Or worst worst, end things with Ochako super messily because he would be scared shitless and respond stupidly.
Or he could end things with Melissa super messily. But something in his gut told him that wasn’t going to happen.
Deku was going to pick Melissa, he just needed the balls to do it without worrying about what their classmates might think.
He needed a challenge to do it.
He needed to feel like he was going to lose her. Which was easier said than done when Melissa was into him enough to ask him on a date.
Katsuki groaned as he flopped back on his mattress, finding himself at another obstacle.
His phone pinged, a welcome distraction before he saw that it was a message from Melissa.
A selfie even. Her with her glasses hung low on her nose, wearing a dark curly wig.
Think I should go brunette? 😉
Shouldn’t you ask Deku that? he considered texting back.
Was this part of her Halloween costume? Why would she—
At once, two voices echoed in his mind sparking inspiration.
The first belonging to a well meaning Alien Queen.
“…she might be open to doing a couples costume with someone…”
The second belonging to a pair of kind brown eyes and plump rosy cheeks.
“…she won’t feel so lonely with you…”
Katsuki rose from his bed and opened his dorm door just a crack, listening, quickly picking up Deku’s high, breathy laugh trickling down the hall.
Game night was tonight. Deku never missed a game night and was intense as hell the entire time.
God themselves could be texting him and he wouldn’t answer.
Katsuki’s phone pinged again, pulling him back towards his bed.
MS: What are you doing tonight?👀
Katsuki smiled wickedly.
She *was* lonely. Deku’s attention was elsewhere so she put her attention elsewhere.
Not a healthy coping mechanism by any means but one that could be exploited.
BK: Checking out this new cute brunette that just texted me.
BK: Still waiting to see her in that white wig and blue skimpy outfit though.
MS: 🤔🤔🤔 I’ll think about it. Would need to find a cunning linguist to sell the costume though.
Katsuki cracked his knuckles and leaned back on his pillows, readying himself for spiteful flirting.
BK: I think I know a cunning linguist 👅 but what about the brunette? What does she need?
MS: A brawny, brainy explorer to help save me from an evil mummy.
So she was going as that librarian from The Mummy.
BK: Well, I definitely think I can help you out of those wraps.
A picture followed, angled a little lower. The button up blouse she was wearing had opened up a bit, exposing her cleavage and the crimson lace of her bra.
MS: These wraps? But I worked so hard on my Halloween costume. 🥺
Katsuki closed his eyes and took a deep breath, calming himself, maintaining his focus. She was hot, no doubt about that.
He didn’t have the chance to give a witty response back before she texted:
What are you dressing up as?
Fuck.
He didn’t have an answer for that one.
He looked around his room for something, anything to claim was a costume that would be enticing enough for her.
A shirtless pic was the obvious choice, but saying “a washboard” was too much of a douche reply for her. And he wasn’t a fucking cosplayer pulling props out his ass.
His gaze fell on the pair of reading glasses resting on his nightstand. Ochako had dragged him out to get them after catching him squinting at their history textbook one study session.
She had picked out the style too, nerdy round shaped frames that she said looked good.
Really they made him look like a dork.
And Melissa liked dorks so…
He whipped off his shirt, threw on his glasses then posed with his signature scowl for a mirror selfie.
BK: The perfect blend of brains and brawn.
MS: 🥵🥵🥵
MS: Those glasses tho 🤔🤔🤔
BK: 🤔?
The fuck was that emoji for?
MS: Those glasses look familiar. More like a cunning linguist than just some brains and brawn.
Katsuki looked at himself in the mirror. They looked familiar? Did Deku fucking wear glasses too or some shit? Or…
He smiled wickedly.
BK: Dunno. Guess you’ll have to wait til the Halloween party to find out.
Katsuki didn’t give two shits what she texted back, he was too busy searching up the perfect picture and knocking on Eijirou’s door.
Mina answered, just as he expected.
“What’s up Bakubro?”
Katsuki shoved his phone towards his face. “This.”
“What?”
“You said you’d help me with my Halloween costume. I need you to make me a sexy version of this motherfucker.”
Mina knit her brow and took the phone from him. “Really? I didn’t even know you knew this movie.”
“I don’t, but Mel loves it.” He exchanged a knowing glance with Eijirou as he joined Mina at the door.
Ei raised a doubtful eyebrow. Katsuki smiled impishly for a moment before dropping back into a scowl as Mina looked up.
“Ohhhh. I’ve got an idea.”
She handed the phone back to him, a smug grin on her face. “What do you think about that? I’ve got enough fabric and some leftover festival face paint we can use for it.”
He nodded. “I think she’s gonna love it.”
🔍🔍🔍🔍🔍
Mina took his costume idea and fucking ran with it.
The other guys however.
“So run us through this plan of yours one more time,” Hanta said beside him, having made his way up next to him mid-run.
Shoto, Eijirou, Shoji, and Tetsu all fell in stride him, annoyingly crowding the track.
Katsuki rolled his eyes and snarled.
“How many times do I have to fucking go through this?” I’m making Deku choose.”
“By helping Melissa feel less lonely at the Halloween party?” Hanta clarified. “That’s the part we’re hung up on.”
“The party’s gonna be packed with people,” Shoto said. “Why would she be lonely?”
“And she’s got 2 guys competing for her heart,” Tetsu added. “That seems like a lot of attention coming her way.”
“I ain’t competing for anything of hers,” Katsuki snapped. “She’ll be lonely because Deku’s will be fucking busy saving face with Uraraka the whole night.”
“Saving face?” Ei asked.
“Everyone knows he’s supposed to be seeing Uraraka, right? It’d be weird if they didn’t spend the Halloween party hanging out together. Which means Melissa’s gotta watch them spend the whole party hanging out together.”
“She’ll be jealous,” Shoji noted.
“And drunk probably,” Katsuki added. “And surrounded by people she’s only sort of friends with. So when the guy she sends titty pics to whenever Deku’s busy walks in looking like her fantasy, I’m sure she’ll be giving me a lot of attention.”
“Thus making Deku jealous,” Shoji concluded.
“Exactly.” Katsuki turned to Hanta. “Now 3M if all of a sudden IcyHot started flirting with another guy in front of you what would you do?”
Shoto frowned. “I would never.”
“It’s a hypothetical, Peppermint, calm down.”
Hanta narrowed his eyes at Katsuki. “I wouldn’t let that happen.”
“You’d cause a scene, wouldn’t ya?” Katsuki snickered.
“Not a scene but,” he glanced towards Shoto, “I’d handle it.”
His boyfriend blushed and Katsuki groaned in disgust.
“Anyway. What is Deku gonna do then?”
“Handle it?” Shoto asked.
“Bingo.”
“But this all rides on Midoriya liking Melissa more that Uraraka,” Ei said. “And I’m not sure—”
“Ya don’t skip out on a date with the girl you like more to hang out with the girl you like less last minute,” he stated. “The moment he chose that museum date over pumpkin picking with Uraraka, who he likes more was clear. He just needs to fucking own up to it now.”
Their footfalls against the rubber track underscored their processing as they considered Katsuki’s argument.
“How can we help?” Shoji asked.
“Keep Melissa and Deku from talking one on one with each other tonight, and make sure Deku and Uraraka stay together in Melissa’s line of sight as much as you can,” Katsuki instructed. “I’ll handle the rest.”
“You’re sure this is a good idea?” Ei asked.
“You worked real hard to get over you and Midoriya’s past bullshit. I don’t want you throwing that away over something like this.”
“Tch. I’m doing this because I fucking know the idiot doesn’t even realize what he’s doing is messed up,” he replied. Either way it goes him and I will be fine. I’ll still be fucking pissed at him for it. But I ain’t gonna beat the shit out of him or something over it.”
“Good,” Ei sighed in relief. “Last thing we need is another Aizawa lecture because of that.”
BnHA 323: “I Don’t Know How to Explain to You That You Should Care About Other People”
Previously on BnHA: Kacchan was all, “Izuku, I’m sorry.” Bakugou Stans were all, “[sobs for a week straight and tearfully awards him the Nobel Prize for character development].” Deku was all, “[faints in Kacchan’s arms].” Iida was all, “[trying to decide if Ochako genuinely tried to kill him a few minutes ago].” Horikoshi was all, “NO TIME FOR HUGS WE MUST GET BACK TO UA.” The civilians holed up at U.A. were all, “WE TOOK A VOTE AND DECIDED THAT WE’RE ALL GOING TO BE JERKS ABOUT THIS AND MAKE A BIG FUSS ABOUT YOU LETTING DEKU BACK INTO THE SCHOOL.” Deku was all “[stands there looking like he expected nothing less and breaking my heart more and more with each passing moment].” Ochako was all, “that does it, looks like I’m gonna have to do something about this... next chapter, that is.”
Today on BnHA: Flashback!Rat Principal is all “I just want you all to know that I spent nine million dollars turning U.A. into a giant Battleship-style grid that can burrow underground and zoom around in a giant subway maze because Horikoshi lacks a grounded understanding of both civil engineering and economics.” Back in the present day, Jeanist is all, “EVERYONE TAKE HEED, MY COMRADES AND I HAVE DEEMED IT EXPEDIENT TO CONVEY THIS AUSPICIOUS YOUTH BACK TO THIS STRONGHOLD. WE ANTICIPATE THAT WE MAY DEPEND UPON YOUR GOODWILL AND ACQUIESCENCE TO THESE TERMS.” The civilians were all, “NO.” Ochako was all, “EMPATHY, MOTHERFUCKERS, DO YOU SPEAK IT?!” The civilians were all, “oh shit.” Anyway so Ochako is a giant badass, but I’m a little worried that she’s going to get struck by lightning. Please come down from there.
so before we start this chapter, I would just like to apologize for having not posted the ch 321 recap yet, and would like to reassure everyone, and especially Iida who is staring at me with Sad Wobbly Guilt Trip Eyes, that I will get to that as soon as I can
OMG FLASHBACK??
Tumblr media
yes please Horikoshi please show us more of class 1-A and their Deku intervention strategy jam sessions
oh dear
Tumblr media
Iida you are too pure and good for this cruel world. [sprays the U.A. civilians with a water bottle] NO. BAD CIVILIANS! NO OSTRACIZING SCARED AND EXHAUSTED CHILDREN IN THE HOUSE
EXCUSE ME RAT PRINCIPAL WHAT’S WITH THESE MIXED MESSAGES
Tumblr media
???
RAT PRINCIPAL: he’s free to return to us at any time!!
ALSO RAT PRINCIPAL: but it’s too risky for him to return to us
?? ??????? ?????????????????????
so now he’s going on about how strong the U.A. Barrier is, and how it’s comparable to the defensive capabilities of Tartarus. this would have sounded a lot more impressive before chapter 297 lol
Tumblr media
OH!!!! HELLO, WHAT’S THIS!!!
Tumblr media
A TIMELY CALLBACK TO A CERTAIN MYSTERIOUS EVENT WHICH HASN’T BEEN REFERENCED SINCE USJ? [U.A. TRAITOR MUSIC INTENSIFIES]
so now Rat Principal says he upgraded U.A.’s security systems with his own “modifications”, whatever the fuck that means. I mean look, I’ve been saying for a long time now that U.A. is the best place for everyone to hole up, don’t get me wrong. but that was mostly on account of there not being any other practical alternatives. but you’re making it sound like you figured out a way to actually make it Decay-proof or some wild shit like that
-- hold up, DID YOU ADD A FORCE FIELD. DID YOU TRICK THIS SCHOOL OUT WAKANDA-STYLE YOU CRAZY MARSUPIAL. HOLY SHIT. because that would actually be perfect
LMAO
Tumblr media
WHAT KIND OF GALAXY BRAIN BULLSHIT. “NAH THERE’S NO NEED FOR A FORCE FIELD, LET’S JUST PUT WHEELS ON IT”
oh okay so the whole campus is basically capable of burrowing itself underground. that’s insane lol I wonder how they pulled that off. probably got poor Cementoss working overtime
blah blah blah so basically the entire campus is split into a grid and each section of the grid is capable of its own independent movement. lol this is just the Merone Base from KHR. you thought no one would notice this casual plagiarism ten years after the fact, but YOU UNDERESTIMATED YOUR AUDIENCE, HORIKOSHI
“joke’s on you imma just lampshade it” WELL ALL RIGHT THEN
Tumblr media
“look at me I’m so fucking self-aware” fucking swear to god. I can’t believe this man is my favorite mangaka of all time smdh
“excuse me, I wasn’t finished describing all the rest of this bullshit yet,” Rat Principal breaks in impatiently. “we also added a steel wall all around the underground of the campus that’s 3000 steel plates thick. that’s fifteen fucking meters of solid fucking steel just fyi. and if anyone fucks around with any part of it the defense system will activate immediately! and also all of the plates are independently motorized, whatever the fuck that means!! in conclusion you’re gonna need a fucking tower crane to suspend all of your disbelief by the time I’m through with this paragraph”
“also Shiketsu is almost as reinforced as U.A. but not quite because we still had to make sure we were better.” but of course. and apparently the two schools are connected via a secret tunnel as Hagakure mentioned earlier
LSDKFJLSDKJFLK
Tumblr media
“WAIT WHAT” LMAO YOU HEARD HIM, NOW INASA CAN VISIT YOU BOTH IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT AND TELL YOU ALL ABOUT THE WEIRD DREAM HE HAD. GOD BLESS YOU HORIKOSHI
(ETA: moment of appreciation for Shouto and Katsuki having the same thought at the same time and making Knowing Eye Contact and saying the exact same thing out loud in perfect unison like the best friends they are. what a blessed day.)
so Tokoyami is all “but wait if you engineered all this shit all the way back during the Band arc how did you even know that Tomura’s quirk awakening would become a thing, Horikoshi -- uh, I mean, Principal Nezu”
and Rat Principal is all “lol idk”
Tumblr media
“basically I just woke up one morning and was all ‘say, you know what this school really needs? a fifteen-meter-thick underground steel wall, and the ability to break up into little pieces that individually zoom around wherever the fuck they want.’ jesus christ. lol if money and common sense were apparently no obstacle why didn’t you just teleport U.A. to the fucking moon or something. maybe I should shut up before I given him any ideas
dsfaelkjldkjgl
Tumblr media
you heard it here first, folks, all of this cost a grand total of nine million U.S. dollars. well technically it cost “more than” nine million dollars. never has that distinction been more important lmao. are we sure this barrier was really made of steel and not cardboard? who the hell sold it to them, Ea-Nasir??
Tumblr media
this is my favorite manga series of all time. yes I am ashamed
“in conclusion please do your best to reach Deku-kun” SO WHAT WAS ALL THAT NONSENSE ABOUT IT BEING TOO RISKY THEN. anyway thank you for this super informative and edifying flashback, Horikoshi. I will cherish it always. I don’t even want to read another translation of this absurdity lmao, there’s something special about it just the way it is. pretty sure Horikoshi just had a cracked out fever dream one night and transferred it to the pages of the manga verbatim
anyway so back to the unruly mob
Tumblr media
not their finest moment. please excuse me while I cover poor Deku’s ears and give him a good shoosh pap
oh wow the parents are out here too
Tumblr media
is Mitsuki trying to hold Inko back?? that’s the last thing this fandom needs right now is more Mitsuki discourse fffwlkjs. and even Jiroudad, scientifically proven to be the best dad in all of BnHA, is just standing there silently looking vaguely unhappy. way to rise to the moment you guys
MONOMA
Tumblr media
so this settles it for me that Aizawa is not at UA. I know a lot of people have been wondering about his whereabouts, and if I had to wager a guess it would be that something happened with Shirakumo/Kurogiri. I can’t think of anything else -- even the loss of an eye and a limb -- that would keep him from his kids at a time like this
anyway but this is excellent Monoma content right here though. I love that he apparently adopted Eri after a single interaction with her. also WHERE IS SHINSOU DAMMIT. THE PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW
and Kouta’s there too looking like he wants to run over to Deku but Ragdoll won’t let him :/
Tumblr media
it’s gotta be pretty upsetting for him to see his hero like this and not having anyone stand up for him. [taps megaphone] IS THIS THING ON. OKAY YEAH IT SEEMS TO BE WORKING. AHEM. PAGING URARAKA OCHAKO. GONNA NEED YOU TO GET OVER HERE ALREADY AND MAKE THAT BIG DRAMATIC SPEECH WHICH YOU ARE CLEARLY DYING TO MAKE. IF YOU DON’T DO IT SOON I’M GONNA HAVE TO STEP IN, AND YOU REALLY DON’T WANT ME TO DO THAT SINCE MY SPEECH WILL NOT BE VERY GOOD OR INSPIRING, AND WILL PROBABLY JUST CONSIST OF “HELLO, YOU ARE ALL STUPID, PLEASE SHUT UP AND GO AWAY”
so now Mic is telling them to calm down. at least someone’s speaking up here, geez
OH MY GOD
Tumblr media Tumblr media
MY MAN JEANIST OUT HERE DOING WHAT HE DOES BEST: MAKING EVERYONE FEEL GUILTY AND JUDGED
OH MY GOD HE IS GIVING SUCH A LONG AND BORING SPEECH LMAO IS YOUR STRATEGY TO PUT THEM ALL TO SLEEP OR WHAT
Tumblr media
truly in awe of this man’s ability to take messages which could easily be conveyed in ELI5-speak, and stubbornly convert them into incomprehensible language the likes of which you need a graduate degree in order to understand
“hey guys, so originally our plan was to use Deku as bait for the villains, but that didn’t really work and also we realized it was kinda dumb and was probably gonna get him killed, so we brought him back here instead.” was that really so hard, Jeanist. also are we all really just gonna sit back here and watch Jeanist take full credit for Bakugou’s plan just like that lmao
(ETA:
Tumblr media
WHERE DID ENDEAVOR GO AND WHO IS THIS DIABOLICAL MASTER OF DISGUISE. lol I genuinely didn’t notice this because I was too busy digging through thesauruses trying to rewrite Jeanist’s speech; many thanks to @class1akids for pointing it out and making my day immeasurably better. take it easy there Dick Tracy.)
“anyway so please stop being dicks and let him fucking rest so he can save all your ungrateful asses” what an impassioned and inspiring plea. time to see if the masses will listen to reason
Tumblr media
narrator: they did not listen to reason
oh my god finally Ochako is doing something. YEAH OCHAKO WOOOO SHOW THEM HOW IT’S DONE
hmm
Tumblr media
this entire chapter is truly and utterly nonsensical to me lol
(ETA: on my second readthrough I’m fucking dying at how she stole the megaphone right out of Mic’s hand lmao. and how Kacchan is all “fuck yeah nothing I appreciate more than some quality fucking larceny.”)
oh I see she was jumping on top of the main building so as to scream down at them all more impressively
Tumblr media
“ANYWAY DEKU IS PRETTY COOL ACTUALLY, YOU GUYS ARE JUST MEAN” couldn’t have said it better myself Ochako
lol uh
Tumblr media
gotta say I did not have “Ochako reveals the secret of OFA to the entire U.A. Citizen Clown Parade” on my bingo card for this week. it’s a bold strategy cotton let’s see if it pays off
SDLFKJSL
Tumblr media
“NO, SERIOUSLY, HAVE YOU LOOKED AT HIM YOU GUYS. YOU THINK HE LIKES RUNNING AROUND DRESSED LIKE A RUSTED OIL DRUM?? HE DID THAT FOR YOU YOU UNGRATEFUL SLOBS”
so she is basically explaining the entire Deku Angst arc to them and explaining what a good and selfless protagonist Deku is, YES, PREACH
OMG IT’S THE GIGANTIC FOX LADY
Tumblr media
not to insinuate anything, but what exactly were you doing standing out here with the hysterical mob, Gigantic Fox Lady? you’re better than that
-- KACCHAN SIGHTING!!
Tumblr media
sdlkfjl. thanks for weighing in with that helpful and important observation. where have you been for the last five minutes. were you asleep. was it Jeanist’s speech
never mind, now he’s yelling at the civilians so I instantly forgive him
Tumblr media
THE FUTURE NUMBER ONE HERO, EVERYONE. THANK YOU, THANK YOU. HE’LL BE HERE ALL WEEK
“anyway so I’m just going to end the chapter here” lmao seventeen pages truly do go by so fast. at least he didn’t try to force in a cliffhanger at the end this time. dare I say, growth
so I guess the civilians are either gonna have a Kamino and/or Fukuoka-esque moment where they remember how to be decent people and apologize to this poor young man, or else they’ll remain unpersuaded, and so Kacchan will have to knock a few of their heads around until they become more inclined to be reasonable. either option is fine by me lol
You Make Me Weak
Bakugou x Gen Neutral reader
Summary: Bakugou and y/n are constantly bickering and fighting. They both like eachother but are too in denial to admit it. Their friends pick up on this and plan a way for them to get along.
Wc: 2.300
!Language warning!
You banged on the door and relentlessly fought with the handle. “Get back over here and open this door!” you yelled to your friends on the other side of the door. You heard some laughing and finally got a response from someone.
“Sorry, but we’re not opening that door until you guys get along!” Ochako yelled back. You heard their footsteps fade signaling they were gone. You stopped fighting with the door handle and turned around to face the biggest thorn in your side since you started at UA, Katsuki Bakugou.
That morning
He couldn’t stand you. At all. Just seeing you in class made his blood boil and heart start racing. If he got too close to you his head would start spinning, or he would become overly conscious of his sweaty hands. He’d constantly catch himself thinking about you all the time and sneaking glances at you during school. You made him feel things he’s never felt before. He didn’t know what was going on or how to stop it. He hated it.
It was even more irritating because his friends would constantly tease him about it. Like right now. Bakugou was in the homeroom sitting near his “friends” and not really joining in their conversation much because he wasn’t in the mood to talk. Instead he kept staring at you from across the room while you were busy deep in conversation with Uraraka. Anytime you would look his way he would quickly avert his eyes and plaster on an angry expression.
His cheeks would turn a slight shade of pink as he tried to act like you were the bane of his existence. Denki picked up on this.
“Yo Kachan what’s got you all blushy,” he asked with a smirk.
“Shut up, I’m not blushing”
“Is he staring at y/n again?” Sero asked.
“Probably,” Mina answered.
“Shut up, I can barely hold in my puke just by looking at them,” Bakugou lied.
At the start of the school year the two of you tolerated each other. You didn’t speak and you didn’t interact most of the time. Even when you did it was pretty neutral. But somehow over the course of the last few weeks Bakugou found you more and more annoying.
It seemed like most of his hatred turned from Deku to you. He would throw insults at you and call you names and you got sick of it. At first you just tried to ignore him, but after it kept happening you snapped at him.
“Can you just shut up!” You practically screamed at him.
Bakugou froze in shock, he’d never heard you speak that loudly before, and with so much fury in your eyes.
“You are always shitting on me for no reason at all and you’re acting like a total jackass! Can you for once stop acting like you’re better than everyone here!” You continued.
“Tch, it’s cause I am better than you,” he smirked.
You balled your fists and your jaw clenched. “UGH I can’t stand you!” You retorted and stormed out of the common area. After that encounter a few weeks ago, he’s only been more intrigued in you. No one has snapped back at him like that. It seriously ticked him off.
All while Bakugou was going through his roller coaster of emotions about you, his friends were paying very close attention. How they always caught him staring at you or bringing you up and how “annoying” you are. How they saw he would fidget with whatever was in his hand or bounce his leg whenever you were talking or your name was brought up. How he would bring you up all the time despite his dislike for you. They all slowly figured out that he had the biggest crush on you and was in serious denial.
They tried to mention it to him once and he almost blew them up for even suggesting that, so they haven’t brought up the subject since. But they still do like to tease him from time to time.
-
You couldn’t stand him. Katsuki Bakugou was the most annoying person in your class. His ego was through the roof and constantly thought he was better than everyone else. Most of the time you kept a distance, not wanting to get yelled at by the explosive blond.
What bothered you even more was that after your little spat with him, he was always trying to talk to you or was always looking at you. You and Bakugou were almost as bad as him and Deku. You were constantly fighting and spitting insults at each other. You weren’t even paired together during heroics anymore after last time you two almost killed each other.
Thankfully you hadn’t had any spats with him today, only some staring and dirty looks during homeroom. School had ended and you were spending some alone time in your dorm finishing up your homework. You heard a knock on your door.
“It’s open,” you yelled from your desk.
The door was opened and revealed Uraraka and Mina.
“Hey y/n, what’s up?” Ochako asked.
“Nothing exciting, I’m like 2 minutes away from finishing my homework.”
She smiled, “oh cool, so you’re free after that?”
You scribbled down the answers as fast you could, “yup.”
“Awesome! so some of us are chilling in one of the vacant dorms on the third floor. You wanna join?” Mina cheered.
You furrowed your eyebrows and tapped your pencil against your notebook. “Why are you guys in a vacant dorm? Why not just hang out in someone's room?”
Uraraka played with the hem of her shirt. “I don’t know, it was Seros idea. But come on, it'll be fun.
You quickly finished up the last question of your homework and left with your friends to wherever your friends were. On the way downstairs you felt something was off. Uraraka and Mina weren’t acting strangely, but something was telling you that they knew something.
The three of you made it to the third floor and your friends guided you to one of the vacant dorm rooms. You stepped inside and there was no one there. “Umm where is . . “
Before you could finish your question you heard Kirishima and Kaminari voices making their way from the elevator to where you are now. Your stomach dropped once you realized that the last person you wanted to see walked in the room with your friends.
But that wasn’t even the worst part. Seconds after the boys walked inside Kirishima, Sero, Mina and Uraraka ran out of the room and slammed the door shut. You and Bakugou exchanged confused looks and ran to the door.
Bakugou fought with the handle and banged on the door. “What the hell? Open the damn door!” He screamed. You could practically see the smoke coming out of his ears.
“Sorry but this is for your own good,” Kaminari giggled.
“How the hell did you guys even lock the door? No one is living here, you don’t have a key!” You yelled through the door.
“I taped the door shut,” You heard from Sero.
“Anyway we’re gonna go and leave you to chat,” Kiri added.
You pushed Bakugou out of the way and banged on the door relentlessly fighting with the handle. “Guys this isn’t funny! Get back over here and open this door!” you yelled to your friends on the other side of the door. You heard some laughing and finally got a response from someone.
“Sorry, but we’re not opening that door until you guys get along!” Ochako yelled back. You heard their footsteps fade signaling they were gone. You stopped fighting with the door handle and turned around to face the biggest thorn in your side since you started at UA.
You sat down on the bed and let out a loud sigh, this can not be happening. You glanced at Katsuki, his arms were crossed and his eyes were on the floor. You noticed he had calmed down since your friends left, but he had left his guard up and set up some imaginary barrier.
It was almost annoying how easy he was to read, maybe that was another reason why you disliked him.. Most of your friends couldn't comprehend how you could read him like a book, but at the same time you stand within a 5 foot radius of him.
Nothing but silence filled the room for the next few minutes. You glanced back at him, now he was situated at the desk chair with his feet propped up on the desk. Some of his hair fell onto his forehead and his bright red eyes stayed fixated on the floor. His arms were still crossed like before but because of the way he was sitting his biceps were  . . . wait WHAT  . . stop thinking about his hair or eyes or muscles.
Your thoughts started to wander and you thought back at your encounters with the blond at the beginning of the school year. The two of you barely spoke and when you did there were no insults or name calling. Just classmates like everyone else. It wasn't until about a little over a month ago that you noticed Bakugou's attitude towards you change.
Although you didn't want to disturb the somewhat peaceful setting that was the predicament you were in, you had to know why he hated you all of a sudden. You had to know what switch was set off for him to go from tolerating you, to despising you.
“Why do you hate me so much?” you broke the silence.
His head snapped to you with a look of confusion. “Tch cause you’re annoying.”
Ok this boy was on thin ice with you right now. “That’s not an answer.”
He rolled his eyes, “Well it’s the answer I fucking gave you.”
“Can you not, for like two seconds?” you spat, patience growing thin.
“I don’t know, can you shut up?” He placed his feet off the desk.
You clenched your fists in frustration. It was nearly impossible to have a normal conversation with him. “You know what! I can't with you! Why are you like this?” You stood up and raised your voice unknowingly.
“Like what?” He stood up mirroring you.
“The insults and dirty looks. You staring at me all the time with that dumb look on your face!” You explained as your voice gained volume. You stepped towards him and stared him down. You both stood in silence. The tension in the room rose by the second.
“What the hell did I do to you to make you hate me so much!”
He stepped closer to you, your faces inches apart. His breath was ragged and uneven, his eyes were narrowed on you. Your heart beat was quickly rising as the seconds passed.
“You wanna know why I hate you?”
“Yes”
Within an instant his lips were on yours. At first you were startled and unable to move, but soon you fell into the rhythm of the kiss. It wasn’t until right now that you realized just how badly you wanted this. How badly you wanted to capture his lips into your own and . You wrapped your hands around his neck deepening the kiss. He placed his one hand on the back of your head, and the other lightly trailed down the back of your spine leaving goosebumps. You slowly parted, breaking the kiss and gasped for air.
“You make me feel weak,” he admitted.
Your eyes went wide and met with his red ones. Your heart was doing a number on you and your cheeks were heating up. You rested your head against his chest to hide your blush and let out a long sigh. “Of all the things for you to say, I did not think that was going to be one of them. Who knew Katsuki Bakugou was a huge softie,” you giggled.
He removed you from his hold and placed his hands in his pockets. “Shut up dumbass,” he scoffed
Both of you stood there in silence, not knowing what to do next. But this time there was no awkward tension in the air. After a few seconds you cleared your throat and spoke up, “So . . . what do we do now?”
“We get the fuck out of here that’s what,” he replied.
He walked towards the door and glanced back at you silently asking to join him. You walked over and he started to yell and bang on the door, you followed suit.
Shortly after the yelling and banging began, your friends ran upstairs to prevent the possibility of you two killing each other, or worse, Aizawa finding you guys locked in a room.
“Yo, what's going on?” you heard from Kaminari.
“Let us out, we made up!” you answered.
There was quiet from behind the door for a few seconds followed by some whispering.
“How do we know you're telling the truth?” you heard from Mina.
You looked at Katsuki and he smirked. You could read him like a book, you knew exactly what he was planning.
“Open the door and we’ll prove it,” he added.
There was more quiet behind the door and soon your heard tape being peeled off. Not long after, the door was opened and behind it a group of friends with questioning expressions.
“Ok, it's open, what's your proof?” Kiri asked.
You and Katsuki exchanged looks and he planted his hand on your waist and pulled you into another kiss. This one is much quicker then the first one, but just as passionate.
You pulled away from the kiss and looked back at your friends. All with wide eyes and jaws hangin on the floor.
“Holy shit I knew it!” Kami and Mina screamed with excitement. A few seconds later Sero handed an unknown amount of money to Uraraka.
“How’s that for proof?” you smiled.
pls tell me more of ur fic pet peeves
K OSMFKS OKAY MAN. man. HSDBBSJDJS
so i have like. a FUCK ton of pet peeves for fics, and i just wanted to say first that fanfic should not be placed in any boxes or standards because it is freely written and it is something meant to be enjoyed. these are my opinions and all peeve me to only a certain degree (meaning it squicks me out at worst)—so if you are a fic writer and you find yourself doing any of these things, do NOT take it to heart and just know i love you for doing what you do and i wish you all the best ♡
im gonna give reasons why certain things peeve me so i dont just sound like im bitching but generally, when reading ANY fics, i dislike the ff:
- long paragraphs with no breaks. bro i have adhd i cant go through all of this im going to get LOST.
- underlining, bolding, italicizing, AND capitalizing statements for emphasis like sir its chill i think i get the point. imho if you wrote your scene well enough and paced it properly, the most you'll need is an italics and maybe an exclamation mark. u gotta trust ur own writing and the reading comprehension of your audience.
- jittery perspective jumps especially when its fic about characters who use the same pronouns and youre constantly shifting the thoughts being presented. it... gets kinda confusing.
- FIRST PERSON POV. ITS NOT BAD I JUST GET SO JARRED BECAUSE SASUKE UCHIHA IS DOING WHAT TO ME??
everything else like grammar and punctuation and spelling is literally just. whatever. like as long as i get your point i really dont care. sometimes writers dont speak english fluently. sometimes writers just fuck up and dont have betas. sometimes writers just post their chapters at 3 am and leave all their mistakes out for god. i have no right to judge.
for personal bnha fic pet peeves, ig most of my annoyance lies on characterization and my own personal beliefs
- i already said it previously but i cannot STRESS how much i dislike the whole "fuck redemption arcs and fuck all authority figures except LoV for some reason" theme. it annoys me and i just flat out dont agree with it
- HATE tropes that reduce deku to being like 🥺👉👈 uwu okie soft helpless bean. theres nothing wrong with it if thats how you prefer deku, but i just get annoyed by it
- ANYTIME BKDK HAS AN UNEQUAL DYNAMIC. again. nothing wrong with exploring it in fanfiction. i just dislike reading fics that make either deku or bakugou blatantly weaker than the other. i love quirkless deku fics but i hate ones where he's also characterized as amounting to nothing and still acts like bakugous punching bag/okay with bakugou disrespecting him. their whole dynamic in canon is built on a great deal of respect
- speaking of bkdks power dynamic, FRICK GOSH I HATE SEEING FICS WHERE DEKU "realizes bakugous been abusing him for years!" and gets him expelled from ua and everyone claps. like. LIKE??? N. NO???? thats not how it works 😭
- all might slander. also unjustified or unnuanced endeavor slander where they dont tackle the complexity of his character. also also unjustified or unnuanced bakugous mom slander. this ones a bit controversial so i wont talk about it much.
- sexist homophobic or racist bakugou. im kicking that away. no. especially fics where bakugous past bullying is explained as "repressed homosexuality". i like making that as a joke but i genuinely do no believe in it.
- BAD MOM MIDORIYA INKO. ITS A TROPE I SEE SOMETIMES AND IT MAKES ME CRY I DONT HAVE A RATIONAL REASONING FOR IT I JUST LOVE INKO
- fics where ochako is obviously very reduced into a supporting figure with absolutely no dimension except being a supportive character and maybe having a shoe-horned wlw romance just for the sake of making her unavailable. shes my fave bnha girl and sometimes in fics i can literally FEEL her character being butchered to only show up when deku needs Love Advice. *note that this only applies when literally every other male character has something else going on for them and its just the females being sidelined into Boy Advice Givers and Talking Sense.
- fics that very obviously belittle asian principles and culture. family means a GOOD DEAL to a lot of asian cultures and fics that spout "if you dont like your family then leave and find your own! its that simple!" usually sound incredibly ignorant or outright claim moral superiority to the weight of familial bond in asian culture. same with manners, respect, and discipline.
- jeALOUSY/CHEATING FICS OK IM SELFISH I ONLY WANT BKDK TOGETHER LIKE IM DEKUBOWL ONLY SOMETIMES BUT BKDK ALWAYS HAS TO END UP TOGETHER
- "murdering is ok if its characters i hate 🥰" ... listen, you do you bestie but like. no thanks. if i wanted to read about mineta getting murdered by momo with a pistol i dont think id be opening a bkdk soulmarks au
- any dekusquad slander 😭 i love them okay
- *kicks mean/bakugou-hating todoroki out the door*
- *kicks 'all mha characters text, talk, and behave like 14 year old stan twt users (no offense ok i speak like that too)' fics out the door*
- *kicks bratty deku and/or bakugou out the door*
thats. all i can think of atm.
And today is the day we power through the rest of chapter 3! The last three pages have been living rent free in my head since I first saw them, and by god I’m gonna fucking ramble on those as much as my brain allows - but first I need to get there. Well, I know there are more fantastic Izuku faces along the way, so I suppose I can live.
[No. 3 - Entrance Exam]
God, that’s an actual small city, what the fuck UA, how do you afford this? Izuku is trembling from nerves (and exhaustion, you can still see the eyebags on him). A picture of the crowds around him:
Tumblr media
So there’s Shouji and Aoyama, along with Uraraka, and we know Iida’s here too, so that’s a fourth of 1a in the same arena. We also have the featured extras (right to left): Beaker (The Muppets), High School PE Teacher, MSPA Reader (Homestuck), Big Meaty Elbones, The Pompadour to Pierce The Heavens, and Slenderkid.
(Yes, before you ask, I will be giving all the extras names in the spirit of Bakugou.)
But yeah, Izuku notes everyone’s confidence and the gear that goes with their quirks, and then he notices Ochako, who is getting herself into the zone. He tries to shakily make his way over to thank her, but Tenya comes in again and stops him, telling Izuku that she’s meditating and wondering if Izuku’s there to interfere, which of course freaks out Izuku.
Engineer (TF2) recognizes him and calls him out:
Tumblr media
Hello Aoyama, yes we see you looking at the camera, good to know that’s not an anime-only thing. And that looks like proto-Tokoyami, who does appear to be the actual one next time we see him, so that’s six members of 1a in one zone. But yeah, everyone considers themselves lucky, which seems a bit silly when he’s just one out of, what was the number again? 1550 students per cityscape? I suppose this is something future Izuku is narrating, so maybe that’s just how he felt about it.
Anyways, the call to begin goes out, with everyone going ‘hmm?’ all at once in confusion. They all look up to the top of… what the fuck?
Tumblr media
How fucking tall is that building?? When the cities are this big??
Tumblr media
Is there an atmosphere up there? Is he halfway to low earth orbit? What the fuck UA. (Also poor Izuku, so many nerves.)
By the time Izuku catches on and turns around, the rest of the crowds have already gone off, including Ochako, Tenya, Tokoyami, and the extras Pompadour, Dudley Dursley, High School PE Teacher, Knock-Off Pussycat, and Skull Mask. He panics and starts running after, telling himself to calm down, that it’s fine, that he’s meant to do this, even as the crowds get further ahead of him.
We then flash back to the beach, with this fantastic face:
Tumblr media
Hahaha poor kid. Izuku mentions he doesn’t feel himself transforming, and All Might laughs and notes that it needs time to digest and that he’ll feel it in a few hours. Izuku is flailing with nerves as he walks off, thinking about getting home for a shower and breakfast; All Might calls out to him, telling him that he might be a proper vessel, but he was put together in a hurry, and hasn’t had time to get used to the power, so prepare for kickback. He says there’s no time for a detailed explanation, and so we then zone back into the present as his words echo in Izuku’s head, saying that when using OFA, to ‘clench your butt and let your heart cry out, saying…’
Before it’s cut off with a one pointer crashing out in front of Izuku, literally - you can see the wall debris flying away.
Tumblr media
Yeah, me too. The one-pointers are noted to be quirk but fragile while the robot that it’s target locked on him. Izuku sees it coming, but he can’t move and his body is shaking from the instinctive terror. He chastises himself, calling himself an idiot as he tears up-
And a laser slices through the bot, Aoyama giving the quick save. He thanks Izuku for the assist, but that he doubts they’ll meet again, giving Izuku a sparkly wink as he zooms off. Present Mic then announces six minutes left, and Izuku starts to panic and think about how bad the situation is.
We see him take in the situation around him:
Tumblr media
Yup, that’s definitely Tokoyami, and who might that dark-haired person be close to the middle?
Tumblr media
Yup, a discord friend pointed out that that’s Kirishima! So that’s no less than seven members of class 1a in the same battle zone! And considering how Ashido and Kirishima were in the same school and her name comes before his, like Katsuki’s comes before Izuku, I wouldn’t be surprised to know she’s in Katsuki’s battlezone.
(Imagine if all of 1a, sans the recommendation duo, were either in Katsuki or Izuku’s battle zones. The sheer odds of that happening…)
But yeah, Ochako is up to 28 points, Tenya to 45, and Eijirou to 32, all while Izuku realizes there are barely any enemies left. He’s freaking out, tearing up, and you can see just how fucking exhausted he is.
We shift over to the ‘teacher commentary’, where we can see Midnight and Thirteen in the back, and then Vlad, Cementoss, and presumably other teachers in front of and to the sides of them. They note how a wide battlefield with limited time brings out the best in the applicants - intelligence gatherers (featuring Shouji), mobility experts (Tenya), decision makers (Aoyama), and natural born warriors (Katsuki). The abilities the students need to preserve peace are judged by their points.
They note that that year has a bumper crop, but that that’s not confirmed yet, as they push the big button labeled ‘Yaruki Switch’. Which unleashes massive, multistory robots into the battle centers (and where the fuck were they hiding???)
Tumblr media
Yeah, me too, kids. Izuku thinks that that’s way too big to be a ‘gimmick’. It punches down into the street with a massive blow, sending wind and debris everywhere, and the other students run while Izuku is sitting there, frozen in terror. Tenya runs past him with barely a glance, while the teachers’ commentary continues - people show their true colors when faced with the zero pointer.
Izuku is in tears and yelling at himself as he picks himself up to run. He knows he has to get away while also getting points, but he’s still stuck at zero, and believes this’ll all be for nothing.
And so we get to the pages that have taken rent-free residence in my head for days now:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
God just. The composition, the entire change in his thought process and demeanor because someone was in danger, the fucking smashing blow and the power behind it, everyone else’s reactions to him oneshotting the monstrosity, and that ominous ending, with Toshinori grinning while the narrative notes that Izuku’s current score is zero.
I’m just going to paste in my gushing from discord, to be clear how I feel about all this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And no, I’m not particularly ashamed of all the gushing or the images or how much I repeat myself. I’m still feeling a whole lotta things from these pages and like. Jesus fuck if I wasn’t already in this fandom, I would be now.
What Happened To You?
Pairing: Kirishima x reader
Genre: angst with fluff :)
Word count: ...
Synopsis: You were a very positive girl, but when you have one of the hardest weeks ever and break down, who will be there to comfort you?
——————————————————————————
This week was so great, perfect justttttt perfect. <— that was sarcasm, it was most definitely not perfect. :(
Y/n was a very positive girl, not only for others but also herself, if she was struggling she would focus on the good. She would constantly go to bed and try to clear her mind, de-stress and not talk to others about negative stuff because she knew it would bring her down and make others worry. She would wake up everyday with the idea that no matter how busy she was, she could make the day great.
This week was no different, but as you know, time carries on, stress builds, it can wear a person down. Exams were coming up, y/n’s family had been really busy and although y/n loved her family she just couldn’t talk to them right now. All of her clothes looked weird these days, thank goodness UA had a uniform. Her classmates seemed so cheerful, she didn’t want to ruin that, so she carried on.
She would run everyday, it became a routine and it helped her cool off, today was just like other days. She tied her shoe laces, pulled up her hair, stretched a bit, and got on her way. She usually went the same route and she knew her way well.
She was running when she lost her footing. Ouch, what the heckkk, that never happens. She had twisted her ankle, she could tell, not from the pain but from the grossly worrying ✨crunch✨ she winced, couldn’t even feel the pain yet but she had fallen too. As she tumbled down the hill the earphones in her ears were ripped out, covering her head she came to a stop.
A large sigh escaped her mouth. ‘It’s alright, it’s okay’ is what she said to herself, she got up and it was very apparent that the adrenaline rushing through her body was basically gone now because her ankle hurt like hell. ‘It’s alright, it’s okay’ she mumbles to herself. She can walk, she can. It just ~really really hurts~ and she can push through.
She’s almost up the hill when she remembers her earphones weren’t with her. Another sigh. She turns and waddles down the hill again. ‘It’s okay, you can get you music going, make it back, get a hot shower, and then sweatpants. :) sweatpants.’ and that became her motivation.
She bends over, grunting loudly, much like a hippo, and gets her earphones, she’s plugging them in as she makes her way up the hill and starts her music.
?? Starts her music. ?? ‘What the hell?’ Pressing the volume button, she turns it up. Pauses and unpauses the music, checks her data, even wastes one of her precious skips on her free Spotify plan 😩 The next song was her favorite-most recent add. She unplugs her earbuds and presses play, the music loudly booms out.
‘It’s alright, it’s okay my earbuds are broken it’s cool it’s not like their expensive’ and she carries on. Tosses them in a public trash bun and makes her way back to the dorms. Smiling and waving at people on the street and ❤️boy does her foot hurt❤️ She’s just back at the building when she sees Momo.
“Hey y/n!! How was your run?” She smiles at you and you smile back.
“It was good, how are you?” Momo says she’s well and they go their separate ways. A very tiny part of y/n is sad that Momo didn’t notice the pain she was in, but then again, it’s not like she gave any evidence of the ache in her ankle. This was her fault.
She opened her dorm room door and closes it up. She sighs and takes off her shoes, her socks are sweaty and gross as she removes them (🥵) she had missed dinner and she groans in disappointment. Hopping in the shower she stretches her back.
Update: the water never got hot enough and she had run out of conditioner.
‘It’s okay some people don’t even use conditioner, it’s fine...’ she thinks, but her hair already felt uncomfortable. The idea of her favorite soft sweatpants she bought from the men’s section is all she wants right now, and luckily for her she had cleaned them that morning. Her ankle is crying at that point and for some reason her shins and thighs really hurt. Maybe she can text and ask Jirou to get them for her :D
“Heyy Jirou 👋🏻”
“What’s up?”
“Your dorms right by the washing machines 🥺 I was wondering if you could get my sweatpants from the farthest right machine, their pretty big and dark blue.”
“Oh y/n, the machines broke, the water pipes burst this morning 😯 I can’t believe you didn’t know, all the clothes were soaked”
“What? oh my gosh :( well it’s okay, how are you?”
It wasn’t okay, things were getting progressively harder for y/n to be positive and now she can’t even be comfy while she stresses out about exams. Y/n spent another hour and a half going over school stuff while icing her ankle. And she’s embarrassed to say she went through a few toilet paper squares whipping away her angry tears, her tissue box empty as it was also allergy season.
She went to bed stressed and sad. But she still went to bed with ‘it’s alright, it’s okay, tomorrow is a new day, I can do this’ her eyes closed and luckily got some shut eye.
She did not wake up from her alarm, nor the sun, nor a villain attack, no, it was the 🙂throbbing pain🙂 in her ankle. But heyyy it’s alright just choke down a few ibuprofen, probably some acetaminophen since she finished off her ibuprofen last night and God knows she doesn’t have the extra $$$ to buy name brand meds right now.
And dangggg did her legs hurt, she shimmies up her skirt and tucks her shirt in, she’s looking in the mirror as she ties her shoes when she notices her bruises, ya know the purple and yellow globs of skin all along her knees. Great.
It was hard to keep a positive mindset that day. She was really struggling to keep it up. And it wasn’t hard for others to tell. She smiles as she takes her seat in class, Ochaco immediately notices her bruises.
“Y/N WHAT HAPPENED?!” She wails, y/n shakes out a laugh sorta sound and shrugs,
“I don’t know, like they just come outta nowhere, it’s so weird, I probably got them on my run or in training.” She smiles at Ochako.
“Y/nnnnn” she wines, “you gotta be more carful!” And then she turns around to respond to iida calling her.
Y/n sighs, you were tired, unmotivated to even focus on the lesson, your normal happy vibe wasn’t there anymore and you were definitely not the only one who could tell.
Kirishima was a really observant guy, he knew from past tests how worked up you got over you’re studies but this didn’t seem like the same stress. You looked overworked and tired, not to mention the bruises, ᵂʰʸ ʷᵉʳᵉⁿ’ᵗ ʸᵒᵘ ᵗᵃᵏᶦⁿᵍ ᶜᵃʳᵉ ᵒᶠ ʸᵒᵘʳˢᵉˡᶠˀ :(
He spent most of the lesson focused on you, the frown on your face made his stomach hurt.
“Hey y/n! :D” Kirishima dances over to you.
Your face immediately brightens up, “Hey Kiri, how are you?”
“I’m doing well, I just wanted to check up with you.” He has a kind of concerned look on his face, a cute eye smile but his eyebrows furrow together.
Y/n pauses, but then smiles, “D’awe Kiri that’s so sweet, I’m doing well, thank you for asking”
Kirishima isn’t dumb, yeah he’s not the smartest book-wise, but he’s really good at reading people.
“Oh, okay, just making sure.” He’s disappointed and a little sad you didn’t confide in him. He rubs your shoulder and gives one last smile.
As he leaves your hand traces over the phantom chill of his lingering touch. For some reason his concern brings a tinge of tears to your eyes. ‘Geez get over yourself y/n’
In other news, your ankle was doing terribly 😁.
——————————————————————————
There’s a certain line for you, a certain line that if crossed you just can’t help but break down. At this point you were close, but not in the danger zone. You shoulda known better than to spent the night studying again.
You wake up feeling terribly rested but what did you expect? There was a noise at the window and you thought you were imagining it at first but it continued. The blinds screech open and you make a mental note to try to never provoke that noise this early ever again. But all thoughts leave you at the sight of a baby bird.
Laying on your window ledge is a baby bird, probably not a week old, there was nearly no fuzz on the innocent creature, definitely no wings yet.
Y/n is kicked into action. The baby was hurt, barely moving. Y/n’s tentative hands scoop the lil guy and he’s cold, shivering, and still as loud as ever, a strangled noise comes from y/n. She did not care if she was gonna be late, this bird was gonna die.
And this is the part I hate the most because there’s nothing, nothing she coulda done, nothing. And she just watches as the little bird wiggles slowly and then just stops. Her mind is as silent as ever and her lips are sealed, her eyes water and she doesn’t know what she’s supposed to do, just let it sit there? Does she bury it?
As tears roll of her cheeks she sets the little bird in an empty shoe box, she sets the box on the window sill and then she leaves.she leaves as if nothing just happened. She’s still taking it on okay? That was literally he most sporadic thing she’s ever done, there was no plan, no thought in that event, she just watched a creature die. ‘It was just a bird, it’s alright, its okay y/n’
But tears are still rolling off her cheeks and she knows it’s not just about the bird, it was about everything, not talking to her family, her friends, stress over school, her bad days piling up, it just crashed. She hid herself in the bathroom and washed her face with the sink water. There were no towels so she had to dry it off with tissue paper that stuck to her face. Her tears never stopped, though her eyes clenched painfully, and her hands kept rubbing and she kept taking those deep breaths it seemed that nothing helped and then she sniffled and then a choked squeak left her. Her eyes kept watering and her head ached. Her legs ached. Her bandages foot ached. Her heart ached. She cried loudly, she can’t remember the last time she cried audibly, but she’s gasping and wailing.
At some point she picks up her feet and splashes her face again, this time drying it with the bottom of her tucked shirt. Her eyes are red and swollen but if she walks into class with her hair and head down nobody would notice.
People noticed. She was late, Aizawa scolded her and she cleared her throat before apologizing. Nobody could tell yet as she took her seat. Froppy pokes her back from her desk,
“What happened, ribbit?”
Y/n clears her throat loudly and coughs a bit, she leans back and tilts her head, “I just slept in.” Her voice does ~not~ sound like her. And everyone can tell. Bakugou is staring and from the back of the room kirishima watches carefully again.
By the end of class y/n’s head is down and covered by her arms, her eyes are closed-the light only worsening her headache.
The girls whisper about her, nothing malicious, just about their worries, she wasn’t herself, y/n was a morning person, never late, never. She always greeted the class and today she sounded so distressed.
“Hey y/n, lets head to lunch, todays lesson was so boring I was just thinking about how hungry I was all lesson.” Ochacohad a smile on her face as she looked down at your sunken form, your head still on the table.
“Nah, Ochaco, I’m not too hungry today.” You mumble.
“You okay y/n? you seem kinda down.” She squats down to try to look at you.
You clear your throat and take a deep breath to fix your voice, “yeah I’m just tired is all no worries, you lift your head up and smile at her. Her face only grows more concerned at your swollen eyes. “O-oh okay, hang in there y/n we’re here for you.”
She walks sideways to share glances at the other girls and also look at you. They leave to the cafeteria and you scold yourself for worrying them. Everyone else is gone, you sigh and tug on your hair.
The noisy drag of rubber on stone fills the room and you flinch up, full attention. A chair drags it’s way in front of your desk, a mop of vibrant red hair clears your view. Oh. Well... that’s a thing.
“Hey.” He says
“Hey.” You say, trying to sound little congested as possible, but your nose is just so clogged and your throat is a bit scratchy. “We’re you not too hungry? You should still get something, I have somthing in my bag if you want- oh well maybe I don’t but I have some cash for a vending machine.” You spew out, he doesn’t respond.
He just looks at you, and he feels the guilt he felt yesterday once again, he should pressed kn more, her shoulda made sure you really were okay, he could tell you were upset yesterday but he shrugged it off and now you were pretending to not care and offer him snack money.
You had obviously been crying, why? It had to have been this morning, what happened, were you stressed again? He doubts you would’ve cried about sleeping in, so what was going on, why didn’t you confide in him? Did he make you uncomfortable?
“Y/n.”
“Yeah? What’s up?” You quickly answer, trying to clear the air and make it as little awkward as possible.
“What happened?” His eyes hone in on yours, his deep rooted compassion always shines through his eyes. “What’s wrong?” He asks quieter.
You would be lying if you said this didn’t make you want to cry again. “Ahh yeah I’m just so tired these days, but it’s really-“
“Nah” he breaks you off, “nah that’s not it, I’ve seen you tired, we’re classmates y/n, this isn’t like you.”
It stresses you out even more to have to talk about this and years are vèrÿ ćłôšē to spilling out. Nevertheless you mumble out, “what do you mean? It’s me, Kiri.” The pained smile you wear hurts him physically.
“No, no, y/n I can tell. What happened to you? Why are you so... sad?” He weighs his words, questions wether or not he should be saying anything at all. “You would light up a room, what happened? What made you like this?”
And bam. Wow kirishima, thanks, you have officially made y/n cry, do you feel good about yourself?
Tears slip over your cheeks and he doesn’t look up until they hit the desk. He pulls his legs together and suddenly is on his feet, “oh, oh no!!! Y/n I’m sorry, what’s wrong, hey, hey it’s okay.” Officially freaking out®
He dashes over to the back of the room to grab some tissues while he violably hits his head, ‘why did you say that??? What’s wrong with you? You made a girl cry!’ He internally yells at himself.
“Here.” He hands you some tissues and awkwardly rubs your back. “I’m sorry. I never meant to make you... upset.” His feet fiddle and his knee bobs on up and down with the pitter patter of his shoes.
“No, I’m sorry, I never meant to worry anyone, I want to go back to normal, this-“ you swallow, choking on air, “this week just, just sucks.”
“Hey.” He bends his knees and balances on the balls of his feet. At your eye level, he yanks your chair towards him, pulling you in so you’re facing him. “No, don’t apologize, I want it.”
What. The. Fwak. Is you saying kirishima?
“I want you to worry me, I mean I don’t enjoy worrying about you but I want you to be comfortable with me, and tell me when your stressed or bothered by something, or when you’re excited about something or when your sad about something, it’s not a burden you know? I want it, I want you to be close to me.” ̶L̶a̶y̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶i̶t̶ ̶o̶n̶ ̶t̶h̶i̶c̶k̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶r̶e̶ ̶a̶r̶e̶n̶’̶t̶ ̶w̶e̶
You just stare at each other, his eyes are dead serious, he doesn’t break eye contact for a second.
“Y/n?”
You look at him again, not having found your voice quite yet you simply nod.
“There is no pretending in friendship, in any relationship, y/n. We have to be honest with each other, you need to- to let others care about you, ya know? The girls were really worried, we all were, so when you feel like this you gotta tell us. Okay? Can you do that for me?”
And for the first time that week, it really was alright, it really was okay, and just like always, tomorrow was another day, and even though today wasn’t the best y/n now realized the incredible importance of her friendships, the increasing admiration for Kirishima and the growing hope for today’s tomorrow.
——————————————————————————
(Unedited) I’m not the most happy with this, I wrote it so quick because my original writing of this was deleted suddenly and I had to rewrite it and I didn’t want to forget anything, anyway, I’ll make it better in the future, hope you enjoyed it, even just a little.
Izuocha Week 2020 Day 3-Silent Night!
Hey! Who asked for a Werewolf X Hunter AU!? Nobody? Well too bad you’re getting one anyway!
Much longer than the last two, I blame the fact that I never have much of a chance to write AUs like this so I was relishing the opportunity to do so.
Also, Eri is here, because of course she is. Enjoy!
The thing that was strangest to Ochako was how quiet it was.
She was in a forest in the middle of the night, she should be hearing creatures skittering about, owls screeching, leaves falling, something, but there was not a single sound to be heard. She knew what that meant, it meant that there was something else in that forest that every other animal did not want finding them, it meant that something was dangerous, it meant that bring her rifle along was actually a good idea.
Going out this late, on a full moon, was not a good idea though, she knew that too, but her coffers were growing empty too fast for her comfort, so she needed to do something to line her pockets before she ran out of money for food, much less any to send to her parents.
She wasn't even out to find the kind of trouble her rifle was usually for, she'd be happy to find a sleeping deer, anything she could skin and chop to sell back in town to give her a few days of breathing room to plan for a bigger pay day.
Unfortunately, it seemed the only thing she found tonight was very awake, and would probably take more than a shot or two.
She slowed her breathing, straining her ears to hear anything, a twig snapping under a padded foot, claws dragging across bark, anything to give that split second she would need to whirl on her target and keep her neck from getting ripped open.
She stepped softly, every inch of ground around her with the potential to hold a landmine, ready to end her life. Not with a boom, but with a roar.
She froze, there, right there, a low, guttural sound of something with sharp teeth and little patience for trespassers. She lifted her sights to point at a dark void between the trees. She placed her finger on the trigger, muscle tensing under her skin.
"Wait!"
Every nerve in her body screamed at her, pleading with her to empty her magazine into the darkness until silence returned, but something in that voice, the one sending her that desperate plea, stayed her hand and stopped her trigger finger.
There was fear there, some sort of deep terror that felt altogether too human for a silver bullet.
She spent what felt like hours staring into the dark, the sound of footsteps slowly making their way closer to her, she refused to let her gun drop down, even as her limbs began to protest from holding the same position for too long.
Soon a figure emerged from the gloom, the sight of the hunched form nearly enough to make her heart drop through the floor. The monster stood on two clawed feet, covered entirely in dark moss green fur, it's fangs and claws shining in the moon light.
It's eyes-his eyes, were a brighter shade of green, shimmering with worry and fear.
A werewolf.
Afraid of her, a hunter barely two thirds his size and probably not even a third his weight, if she wasn't so concentrated on keeping her aim steady she'd feel flattered.
And that wasn't even the oddest thing, that honor would go to the little girl shivering behind his left leg. White hair, red eyes, dressed in rags and looking scared for her life. But the fear wasn't for the monster, no, that girl was afraid of Ochako, of this strange person who was still pointing a gun at her.
Slowly, the hunter lowered her weapon, cleared her throat, and tried a weary smile, "hey sweetheart, it's okay." She put the gun on her back, displaying her empty hands to the frightened child, "nobody is gonna get hurt…" she turned her eyes to the werewolf, who hadn't made a sound since his earlier plea, "…right?"
His eyes roamed her form quickly, his eyes taking in every detail of her attire, from the bag on her back to the bandolier filled with extra bullets across her chest. The intensity sent a shiver down her spine, like his eyes ripped right through her and down a few miles behind her to see the path she took to get here.
Soon the intensity in his gaze lessoned somewhat, though it hardly left, and he let out a breath, his eyes darting back and forth, "…yeah." He placed a protective hand on the girl, who gripped at his fur like a lifeline, both of them searching the trees for shadows, "…are you alone?"
She considered lying, saying that she was part of a group in order to dissuade him from trying anything violent, but again that girl came into her sight again, her eyes shimmering with tears, form shaking in fear, but still hanging on to the werewolf like he was the only person she could trust.
She knew werewolves could be reasoned with, talked to, that's what made the feral ones such a terror, but a werewolf caring for a child like that? This was not your average man-wolf, something in his gaze was gentle, smart yet unsure.
She wasn't sure why, but she ignored every instinct she had and shook her head, "no, just me…" She looked behind them and swept her eyes around the trees looking for whatever they were afraid of, finding nothing, "…you running from someone?"
A tense moment passed where the werewolf's eyes sharpened, Ochako having to forcibly keep herself from reaching for the knife hidden on her belt line as he looked for…something, some sign that she was part of whatever he and the girl were trying to avoid, before he sighed, his eyes turning…panicked, as if he was realizing how deep in the water he was, "there were…these men, hurting her."
The girl sniffed and placed her forehead on the back of his leg, but kept quiet like before.
"Badly I-" He let out a harsh breath between his fangs, Ochako just noticing the very faint red stains on some of them, "I had to do something, get her away from them but I-" He gulped, his arm raising to grip at a nearby tree to support his weight, a patch of his fur near his shoulder glistening slightly in the moon light, he was hurt, "I don't know if there's anyone else around, too dangerous for her here."
The girl hiccupped and looked up at Ochako, eyes leaking, "help him! Please!" She tugged at his fur, and pointed to that patch of fur that started dripping blood on the grass, "he's hurt!"
"Forget about me!" He shouted of a sudden, pushing the girl from behind his leg and towards Ochako, who was still trying to figure out what in the ever loving hell was going on, "please, get her out of here, there's a town nearby right?"
Ochako, flat footed, gaped for a second before she took a few careful steps towards the girl, who rushed back to the man, and soon she decided to flow with the situation and hope it might start making sense, "yes, a few miles back, if I hurry I should be able to get her to my house in an hour…what about you?"
He took a knee and placed his hands on the girl's shoulders, holding her firmly, ignoring Ochako for the moment, "please Eri I can't keep you safe in the woods." He placed her face between his clawed hands with a measure of gentleness that caught Ochako completely off guard, "she can get you to a town where people can help, you need to go."
"But-!" Eri pleaded helplessly, tears falling freely now, "but you're hurt!"
"I'll be fine," he said to her, but his eyes went to Ochako, as if to answer her question from before, "what matters is getting her somewhere safe," his eyes narrowed, though this time she found her spine straightening at the sight of them, "can you do that?"
With courage she didn't feel at all, she walked forward resolutely, putting her hand on Eri's shoulder gently, "she'll be okay, leave her to me." She smiled in a way she thought she never would at a werewolf, earning her a look of surprise from him, "trust me."
Trust in a hunter must have been as hard for him to give as it was for her to ask, but his eyes filled with gratitude, and some amount of awe that colored her cheeks as he smiled gently at her, as gently as one could with a maw filled with razor sharp teeth anyway, "thank you."
"Izuku…" Eri pleaded one more time, fingers bunching up the fur of his chest, "please…"
"It's okay Eri…" He soothed quietly, moving his claws through her white hair slowly, "just focus, alright? Focus on following this hunter, get help, tell her about the men who did this to you." Eri grabbed at her forearms when he said this, and Ochako could feel a pit in her stomach, "everything is going to be alright, I promise."
With one last miserable hiccup, Eri turned around and buried her head in Ochako's legs, hugging her desperately.
Izuku rose to full height, and turned to walk back into the dark, and for some reason that sat wrong with Ochako, that he would risk himself like this for a helpless child only to slink off to bleed in the woods all by himself, "wait!" She called out, her voice mirroring his desperation from before, "I live by myself, I can hide you in the roof if I need to, you're too hurt to go off like this!"
"I need to make sure there isn't anyone else from that group hurting her." He kept his back to them but didn't move further away, "…thank you for the offer though, it's been a while since anyone's been this nice to me."
He continued to walk, determined to make sure Eri was safe, so Ochako decided to offer one last kindness before she legged it back to town with Eri in toe, "Ochako Uraraka, look for me in UA town in the morning, or as soon as you can, you are not bleeding out in the woods if I can help it, understand?"
He turned to look behind him, mouth agape, before he nodded dumbly, "y-yes, got it."
They stared at each other for a long, silent moment, the woods still quiet around them, something warm settling in Ochako's stomach as Izuku offered her one last smile before rushing off into the forest, his footfalls weakening as he went further away.
"C'mon sweetheart." She muttered to Eri as she gathered the girl in her arms and turned to return home, "let's get you out of here."
"Thank you." The girl mumbled into her shoulder as she hugged Ochako's neck, still crying a little, "thank you for helping us."
Ochako was about to wave it off, helping a little girl was common practice for most people, but something in her voice stopped her, something like disbelief at being helped, like the girl didn't consider herself worth the trouble.
"You're welcome." She replied instead, hugging the girl close as she made her way back where she came, for the first time noticing something fluffy rubbing her stomach.
Looking over the little girl's head showed what it was, a short, scruffy tail hanging from a little over Eri's beltline.
Ochako held back a groan as she gathered the tail in her hand as gently as she could, went looking for money in the woods and now she came out with something far too precious for her to handle.
She walked on with steady steps, hoping the woods remained as quiet as they were so far.
-_-
She spent most of the next morning equal parts freaking out and trying to make Eri breakfast.
Part of her freaking out was her trying to figure out what she could even give Eri, considering her...lupine qualities. Qualities that were more easily readable in the light than they were in the dead of night.
She had slightly sharper nails, like the beginning of a pup's paws, her hair was a lot scruffier than at first glance and it seemed to poof out whenever she was surprised, her pupils were narrow, not like a full werewolf but just enough to notice if you stared at her nose to nose. When she gave Eri a simple sandwich with sausage she saw that even her teeth were just a bit sharper than they should be. Even her face had some wolfish shapes too it, the roundness of her nose, the angle of her chin, the more she looked the more she wondered how she missed it the night before.
Combined with the tail, it was all beginning to give Ochako a stomachache.
She wasn't a werewolf, or at the very least not any werewolf Ochako heard of, she seemed like some mix between a child and a puppy, her true being, whatever it was, peeking out from between where the two halves met.
Whatever she was, Ochako knew it wouldn't matter to any of the other townsfolk, all they would see is sharp teeth and a tail and drag Eri off to be skinned and stuffed, and odd as it was to say about a child she had only known for a few spare hours, but Ochako would shoot up the entire county before she let that happen.
Not that Ochako could keep her here, she could barely afford this rickety roof over her head as it was, along with her sending money to her folks and keeping herself fed and clothed, how much did she have to spare to care for this little girl-wolf-whoever she was?
She wasn't going to toss her out either, Ochako resolved to simply tough it out, like she's done her entire life since her parent's company went bankrupt, push through this and figure out what to do. She had no earthly idea how she might manage that, but she was just going to have to try her best and figure it out.
With any luck, she might be able to convince some of her friends to help with this, provided they don't freak out for long enough to let her explain.
And they might even help find Izuku, where ever he was.
What time she had left after panicking and making Eri food she spent looking out her window to see if anyone was coming, she was starting to contemplate going into the woods and looking for any clues she could use to find him, or at least find out more about the men who were hurt Eri so she could put a bullet or two in them for the trouble they caused.
The girl refused to speak of them, every time Ochako tried to broach the subject the girl went impossibly paler and hid in her long hair. So going out herself was looking like the only way she would get any answers.
But that would involve leaving Eri alone, and doing that left a rotten taste in her mouth, all the more because she knew she would eventually have to if she wanted any money to buy food and keep the place.
But leaving Izuku alone seemed just as rotten, after seeing him willing to throw himself away like that for a child she couldn't very well just let him bleed out there, she owed him proper medical care at the absolute minimum.
As she scratched her head trying to figure out what to do, there was a knock on the door.
Both she and Eri looked at each other in mixed alarm and hope, the hunter grabbing her rifle and motioning for Eri to go hide behind her ratty couch in the tiny living room as she slowly made her way to the door, more knocks sounding from it.
"Hello? Anyone home?"
As soon as she was next to the door, Ochako called out in a deep voice, "yeah?" She grabbed her rifle tightly, ready to strike at a moment's notice, "who are you looking for?"
"Ochako Uraraka?" The voice called out again, soft and timid, barely reaching past the door, "I was told she lived here?"
Ochako thought he sounded familiar, but like hell was she going to get Eri any closer to potential danger just to be sure, she took half a step away from the door to aim her barrel at the middle, "and who told you that?"
"Iida Tenya of the hunter's guild."
That made enough sense, but she wanted to be absolutely sure, "and why are you looking for her?"
A soft chuckle tickled the air before he answered, "I met her in the woods last night, she helped me when she had every reason to shoot me dead and I want to thank her properly."
With a sigh of relief, Ochako lowered her gun and opened the door, and there on her welcome mat stood a young man about her age, with wild green her and soft green eyes, dressed messily and with a tired smile.
"Izuku?" In her relief she flung her arms around him without thinking, squeezing him in a hug, "I was so worried!"
"I'm okay! Sorry for worri-" He trailed off when he noticed their positions, Ochako quickly following him as she jumped a whole foot away with an awkward chuckle forced out of her throat, which Izuku mirrored, "did you get back alright? Both of you?"
She knew who he meant so she cleared her throat and invited him in, ignoring the heat in her cheeks for the moment, closing the door behind them as she called out, "Eri! He came back!"
The sound of small feet shuffling about filled the small apartment before Eri appeared around the corner, launching herself at Izuku without a word and clinging to him without a care, Ochako sitting in a chair as she watched him slowly calm the poor girl down.
After he managed she put some food in front of him and refused to hear a word before he finished cleaning his plate, and judging by the way he, pardon the pun, wolfed it down he sorely needed it.
Once he put his dish away he sat across from her and Eri at the table, wringing his fingers, "I'm guessing you probably want a better explanation, right?"
Ochako rubbed her forehead and sighed, "just…some basic stuff; for instance, do you know the people who were…hurting Eri?"
"No." He shook his head, "they had these weird…plague doctor masks on, never saw anything like that before, maybe they're a cult?"
"Knowing my luck they just might be." She sighed again and shook her head before she went on, "were there any more of them after we split up last night?"
"None that I could find," His brow furrowed, "though I saw some carriage tracks on the opposite side of the forest, so who knows."
Thinking back on that night, with the mysterious villains and silent shadows, Ochako leapt to her feet when she remembered how badly he was hurt, "your wound! Did you get it fixed up?"
Izuku's eyes widened, as if he didn't expect her to worry as much as she did before he raised his hands to calm her, "y-yeah, I went to a nurse this morning to get patched up." He opened the buttons holding his shirt closed, laying bare the wound from the night before, properly bandaged.
Consequently, he also bared to her a lot more toned muscle then his thin stature would imply, his chest flat and stomach defined like that of someone who trained his whole life to keep in top shape.
Ochako felt more than a little silly, staring at him like she was, feeling her heart beat pick up slightly at the sight like she was some little girl with a crush, so she cleared her throat to hid her blush and nodded stiffly, "good, good, I'm glad you're better." She waited for him to close his shirt back up so she could think properly before she went on, "so, those tracks, did you see them lead anywhere?"
He shook his head, "too dark, I followed them for a mile or two before my wound hurt too much to keep running." He scratched his head in frustration, "they seemed to go on a long while though, for all I knew they could have come from the opposite side of the country."
Ochako took a deep breath to swallow the lump in her throat, one thing at a time, possible country wide cults would wait until she wasn't completely in the dark about her new housemates, "Eri…is she a werewolf?"
Izuku was quiet for a moment, looking at Eri as if asking for permission to speak, she nodded faintly and he looked back at the hunter, "no, I'm sure of it."
"Oh yeah?" She laughed a little, frustrated that she barely got any information about this mess, "and how long were you a werewolf to be so sure?"
"Long enough."
The way he said it gave her pause, as if she pressed on a raw nerve without looking, she sighed again and walked around the subject to continue asking, "do you know what she is then?"
Izuku's face scrunched up in embarrassment, "no idea."
"Of course not…"
She rubbed her forehead before she heard a light sniffling coming from the girl's direction, "sorry…" She mumbled miserably, "you two going through so much trouble for…just for me…"
"You're not trouble, Eri." Izuku soothed again, patting the little girl on the head, "me and Ochako want to help you…" He looked at her quizzically, "…right?"
She blinked at him for a moment, looking between him and Eri, whose eyes were beginning to water slightly, she sighed good naturedly, "of course, though that depends."
Izuku raised an eyebrow, "depends on what?"
"You two aren't going to eat me in the middle of night, are you?" They looked at her with some mild horror, before she smiled uneasily and put her hands up to calm them, "relax! It was a bad joke! A bad joke!" They both sighed tiredly, though Izuku did it with a smile, "I do Eri, I want to help you too, you deserve to live life without looking over your shoulder, and Izuku and I are going to make sure of that."
Eri blushed at that hiding her face in her arms and hair as Izuku laughed warmly and pat her on the head again.
Looking at the two of them, filling her small ramshackle home with laughter, Ochako thought back to last night, and how utterly quiet the woods were. As she did, she realized she recognized that silence back then, it was the silence that accompanied her every night as she slept on her own, reaching her bed at a time where everyone else was already fast asleep.
That sort of quiet was lonely; it was a void you felt because you knew it needed to be filled with something. It seemed her own life had a void in it she didn't know she had to fill, or even how.
When Izuku looked back at her, smile worried but trusting, she began to think that maybe she might be able to figure that out by the time this whole ordeal was finished.
Maybe, by the time Eri was safe and Izuku could relax, she would never again have to sleep in a silent night.
Tumblr media
You never realise what you have until it's gone. Once it's gone you'll realize you should have cherished it more. Should have loved it more. Should have appreciated it more. Should have appreciated her more.
Izuku Midoriya never realised how much you did for him. How much he needed you. How much he depended on you. He never realised it until you left.
Until you got fed up. Until you had enough. He should have listened to you. Should have respected you. Maybe then he’d still have you.
Throughout your days at UA, you supported Izuku. You trained and sparred with him, you encouraged him, you defended him when Katsuki bullied him. Hell, after moving to the dorms you would always make him lunch knowing he would forget, and Inko wasn’t there to do it for him anymore.
You were an exemplary girlfriend. Did he ever thank you? At first, yes. But after you always being there, he got used to you always being there. He depended on you and he threw it all away.
You loved Izuku. You loved him dearly. You also trusted him. You felt stable in your relationship where you could trust him around other girls.
Except, Ochako Uraraka.
You loved Ochako. She was a great friend and a great person. You had nothing against her. But you knew she had feelings for Izuku.
You knew Izuku before Ochako did. In middle school, you were best friends with Katsuki Bakugo. You didn't really talk to Izuku, but you did stop Bakugo from bullying him a lot. You had to move and when you did, you grew away from Bakugo, but you met Ochako and became best friends.
You and Ochako both developed feelings for Izuku. Being best friends, you told each other. Since you met him first, you had a claim on the I-saw-him-first rule. He was rightfully yours to pursue.
Despite this, it's not like you had made any moves on him. It’s not like you tried to take him from her. He confessed to you. He made the first move.
And despite you telling this to Izuku, he never listened. He couldn't believe his precious friend Ochako had feelings for him. He refused to believe it.
But it's not like you were asking him to stop hanging out with her. You weren't a possessive girlfriend. You wouldn't control who he sees. You just didn't want them hanging out alone. He could take a friend with him, any friend, Iida, Tokoyami, anybody in class 1-A. He had tons of friends.
But Izuku didn't respect what you had asked him. Instead, he did quite the opposite. He let her inside his dorm room of all places, after hours, alone.
Just as fate would have it, the day Ochako decides to make a move on him, you drop by unannounced.
You didn't bother knocking, knowing he wouldn't be asleep yet. You just needed to grab a school book you left behind.
"Hey, Izuku, have you seen my English-"
You gasp as you see them and hot, salty tears start to leak down your face.
Ochako Uraraka, your supposed best friend, on top of Izuku Midoriya, your beloved boyfriend. Her lips were on his cheek. Sure it could be friendly, but with her hand on his thigh, no way in hell. Too close, too touchy, to be friendly.
You frown and sneer at them as tears cascade down your cheeks.
"Sorry! Didn't mean to interrupt your date. Left my book here by accident."
Izuku wanted to say something, but he couldn't move his lips.
'No! It's not a date.'
'Don't apologize. You're my girlfriend, not her.'
'No, I’m not cheating on you.'
Any of those would be great sentence starters. But nothing left his throat. He was in shock. She had kissed him, just as you walked in.
You scoff at his silence and grab your book of the table before storming out. This seems to knock Izuku out of his shock.
"Wait-"
But the slamming of the door cuts him off.
Uraraka guiltily grabs her bag while looking at the floor.
"I'm sorry. I don’t know what I was thinking. I shouldn't have done that. I was- I was jealous. I'm really sorry."
Izuku never responded. He just stared blankly at the door, as if you would come back in and tell him it would be okay. That your relationship wasn't ruined. That you were okay.
But as Uraraka leaves, he realizes that will never happen. That he should have listened to you. He should have respected and appreciated what you said.
Tumblr media
It isn't until the following morning when Midoriya realizes how bad he fucked up. He sees you sitting farther away from where you usually sit. Away from Squad-Deku, closer to Baku-Squad.
After all, your Ex-boyfriend and Ex-best friend were there. You would want to avoid them as much as possible.
The sight of you sitting with Eijirou breaks his heart. He wasn't prepared to see you with someone else. Laughing and smiling as if he hadn't broken your heart.
But he did. This was his consequence.
He still stands outside the classroom building the courage to walk in. That's when Katsuki slams him into the wall.
“Deku! You damn-nerd! I'm gonna fucking roast you, you fucking extra.”
You told Katsuki. Of course, you did, you were friends with Katsuki in middle school. If you were back with Baku-squad, then that meant Katsuki was gonna take back his responsibilities as your best friend from Uraraka.
"You fucking cheated on her, you fucking shit-munch!"
Katsuki punches Midoriya. He would have beat him some more and Midoriya would have let him had you not come out.
"Katsuki! Katsuki, it's okay. Leave him be, it's not worth it."
Katsuki drops Midoriya on the floor. You and Ejirou were the only ones to really understand and calm him down.
"Your bleeding!"
For a minute, Midoriya thinks your talking to him. He almost tells you he's fine, Almost. But then he realizes you were talking to Katsuki.
How his heart swells and his blood boils as you examine Katsuki’s hand. He wishes that were him. That you were worried for him. Not for Katsuki.
"I'm fine! Hit that fucking extra too hard."
"Let me clean it for you."
He remembers every time you did that for him. Cleaned his wounds. From the biggest of gashes to the tiniest splinter. You wouldn't care for him like that anymore.
Tumblr media
It isn't until three weeks after the breakup that Midoriya reaches out to you. You agreed to meet him after all closure was needed.
So you talked after class, Katsuki and Eijirou six feet ahead from you. Too far to hear, but close enough to see if you needed help. Not that you thought Midoriya would ever hurt you.
"I didn't cheat on you."
"Right. What was it then? Had food on your cheek? She was looking for something in your eye?"
"She kissed me when you walked in. Please believe me."
You ball your fists up to stop them from shaking.
"It doesn't matter if I believe you or not."
"W-Why? If you believe me, then w-we can get back together."
Midoriya was crying those big crocodile tears now. Something cute while you were together that now annoyed you.
"It wouldn’t have happened if you weren't alone together! I asked you not to be alone with her, and you disrespected my feelings, my insecurities. You knew she liked you, yet you hung out with her!"
Midoriya balls harder and you see Katsuki walking over to you but you shoot him a look saying not to interject. Calming your voice down you try talking again.
"I'm sorry Midoriya, I can't be with someone who doesn't respect my feelings."
Every time you call him Midoriya it breaks his heart. You went from first names to last names. You once called Katsuki, Bakugo. Now he was simply Katsuki.
Midoriya watches as you walk over to Eijirou and Katsuki, linking your arms together and walking away. Smile on your face, laughing as if you hadn't stomped on his heart.
To be fair, he stomped on yours first.
Tumblr media
It isn't until two months after your breakup that he realizes he really lost you.
He watched as you walk the halls, hands entertained with Eijirou’s as Katsuki holds your bag. Katsuki’s own hand entertained with Eijirou’s other hand.
The Happy Couple.
After you three came out as polyamorous, everyone thought you were just the cutest couple ever. The perfect match. Who better for Katsuki than the two people who could calm him down.
He wants to punch them both and take you away. But he can't. Your not his anymore.
You sit down on Katsuki’s lap, resting your feet on Eijirou’s lap before Aizawa comes in and makes you move. This was a daily routine.
Katsuki nuzzled himself in your neck and kisses your cheek.
"Did I tell you how fucking beautiful you are today?"
"No."
"Well, you are."
Midoriya clenches his fist. That should be him. He should be the one saying you're beautiful. He should be nuzzling you. He should be kissing you. But he can't. Your not his. Your Katsuki’s now.
He watches as Eijirou rubs your clothed feet that sit in his lap. Massaging them, earning a blissfully smile and small moan from you.
"Not just beautiful, you're gorgeous babe."
He wants to be the one to call you gorgeous. The one to rub your feet. To make you moan and smile. But he can't. Your not his. Your Eijirou’s now.
He’s just Midoriya now. He's not Izuku or even Deku to you anymore. He's just Midoriya. Midoriya your classmate. Simply Midoriya.
What I love about BNHA Season 4 Ep 1
Okay I said my thoughts about the series being posted on my Tumblr would be a regular thing but the past chapters have been really making me nervous. I have several Tumblr drafts already but I couldn’t post it. HAHA. So for now, here are my thoughts for the first episode of this most anticipated season!
 Spoilers after the cut!
As a journalist irl, this one really touched me so much. Often in anime/manga or jdrama, I’ve seen media being depicted as being terrible xD only after scoops and stuff. BNHA was no exception. Even I felt so bad with the grilling that UA had before the media. Of course media culture is different for my country, but my pride with my pen was also questioned thanks to these things I’ve been watching. SO to see a bunch of journalists who love All Might but also their job? It was so good to see! (EDIT: His camera quirk too! I’m so glad it was given to him just imagine if Mineta had such quirk!! OH GOSH THE HORROR) The episode-special character was shady at first but given his past, his goal was super touching. I LOVED WHAT HE TOLD DEKU THAT HE’D WRITE “THE SYMBOL OF PEACE WHEN HE WAS YOUNG” I ALSO LOVED HOW HE SAID HE WAS SO HAPPY TO WRITE THAT THERE IS HOPE.
Because that one line got through me. Even from episode 1, I knew BNHA wouldn’t be all the fun adventure it looked like despite the comic reliefs. It had several foreshadowing of darkness that is slowly being peeled especially with the upcoming arc (a bit of a warning for anime-only watchers because darkness will really come for the next episodes). But that one line made me realize that we are watching these kids’ growth and even if Deku is All Might’s successor, these kids are all symbols of peace. These kids are all the hope that the world needs. And that is so heartwarming to realize again.
I also loved how this episode was a creative “recap.” The swimming episode seasons ago was fun, yes, and also a creative to have a recap. But this one was done (for me at least) more tastefully. Not just fun, but something that leaves a good impression.
THE DAY TO DAY LIVES OF THE CHARACTERS GOT ME. I had to pause and rewind several times. It’s just so good to see everyone in their “natural habitat.” With all the action and pressure of being a hero and all the things that make the plot turn heavier each time something happens, it’s so good to see them having fun or just being chill. They are still kids and I’m so happy to see them doing kid things.
THERE ARE SEVERAL DETAILS THAT ARE SO FUN TO LOOK AT. Hate him or don’t like him, Mineta and his usual perv ways was a thing that needed to be shown. He completes the Class A experience. Hagakure and her consciousness on her appearance is one too! Same as Aoyama’s sparkling and “looking into our souls.” Sadly we didn’t hear a dialogue from Bakugou but it’s fun to see him all angery again (and admit that the idle eating scene of him was eye candy). Sadly, no Todoroki dialogue too (right or I missed it?) but his stolen shots were cool. Tokoyami and Dark Shadow! GOSH how many times were they shown eating? HAHA. It’s so cute to see Dark Shadow serving him food <3 Kaminari charging phoneS was another great thing to watch! Koda being that cute cinnamon roll. Iida being IIDA haha. Aizawa snapping on Mineta was fun too xD The Ashido-Hagakure team-up when it comes to chats is also wonderful.
Another thing I loved about this episode is that though the profiles of each UA student, we got new scenes. it wasn’t purely just recycled scenes. We got to see more of their daily lives. Some good things to note about their characters!
If there’s one thing, I wish I saw more Kyouka? More Momo? Or more Bakusquad interaction? More Tsuyu? Meizo? But in a 20-min episode, that is understandable! I’m already happy to see the kids.
Notice that I haven’t mentioned Ochako or Izuku BECAUSE WE GOT IZUOCHA!? I MEAAAAAN. For this episode, it was mostly Izuku being flustered! That is so cute! We all know that it’s confirmed that Ochako has feelings for him but we’ve yet to get a clear one from Izuku. So you know, instead of getting Ochako being the one flustered (when she’s the one who has a crush), it’s Izuku. So my shipping heart is happy!
That selfie shot of Izuku and the journalist though! LOL Ochako blushing like that!? I mean I know she’s confused. But LOL. I can’t.
IZUKU WAS SO PRECIOUS IN THIS EPISODE. I COULDN’T GET ENOUGH OF HIM EVERY TIME HE WAS SHOWED. HE WAS SO CUTE.
HIS LITTLE SCENE WITH ALL MIGHT TOO WAS SO HEARTWARMING OH MY GOSH!
AND ALL MIGHT WAS SO CUTE IN THIS EPISODE! I’M SO SO HAPPY THAT THE EDITOR IN CHIEF SAID OUTLOUD THAT HE IS CUTE!
Speaking of All Might, mentioning the movie was pretty good! Makes you think that all fillers are connected.
Izuku’s intro is also new compared to the past 3 seasons. So cute to see everyone in it but I noticed my ships sharing same scenes so maybe that;s an addition for my personal enjoyment
All in all, I love this episode! It’s a good refresher that has its own story and content! The upcoming episodes are gonna go darker so I super appreciate this gift.
I won’t specify my thoughts on the OP and ED because it would take so much time! Probably another post? IDK but both are chilling! The OP has all the elements of foreshadowing to more happenings in this arc EVEN THE SUBTLEST ONES (like Touga suddenly appearing after Ochako? That one was soooo good!) so anime-only watchers, I suggest you go absorb that opening because you’ll see lots in future episodes! The ED was just... heartbreaking. I didn’t want to make a joke but it really broke me then Mirio and Deku smiling in the end built me up.... but it’s a bad joke... if you know the story... of Eri. SO YEAH. These are my thoughts. Thanks for reading if you reach here!
BNHA Rewatch: Episode 57 “Rescue Exercises”
mysterylover123
aka The One With Rescue Exercises. Title basically says it all.
Tumblr media
Wow what a waste of resources. I’m realizing that Tomura, if he hadn’t been so traumatized, could’ve had a very lucrative job sparing them expensive explosive equipment. What could have been.
Tumblr media
Ah Deku is so thrilled. This is his thing. Saving to win.
Tumblr media
LOL HUC. They’re such a clever idea. I wish the series used them more. This is the kinda material I signed up for when I started watching BNHA. How to teach being a Superhero.
Tumblr media
Ugh why must we do this. I do like the idea that everyone in Class A thinks Deku is some kind of sex god because of this (they’re right). On the other hand, it’s Mineta. So it’s automatically stupid.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Deku is not responding to a hot girl waving at him like this. I think his gay is confirmed.
Tumblr media
Uraraka’s annoying crush counter: 12. Deku is again scared of a girl, and Ochako just gets jealous of him.
Tumblr media
Nagamasa apologizes to Katsuki so I instantly like him. Also WOW Kirishima may be the only guy in Class A with a waistline more fabulous than Kacchan’s.
Tumblr media
Todoroki trying awkwardly to make friends with Inasa Aw.
Tumblr media
Ooh Deku notices Tododeku moment?
Tumblr media
Jesus Uraraka just ask the guy out already! Or are you actually just jealous that he gets so many hot girls? The way you’re eyeing Camie is making me wonder if you’re really as straight as you claim to be.
Tumblr media
“Damn extras” really Kacchan? Kiri and Kami are still damn extras? That’s harsh, man.
Tumblr media
Yeah yeah Naga that would be cool if Ibara didn’t have the same power already. Also I kinda ship Nagamasa/Inasa a bit, since Inasa is Deku level of Fanboy over him in this scene.
Tumblr media
Deku screws up a little here, but immediately recovers because he’s the best and that smile saved my life and made my small heart grow three sizes that day.
Tumblr media
This is clever, of course, speaking to Nana Shimura’s philosophy about saving a person’s heart as well as their lives.
Tumblr media
Deku is just the best.
Tumblr media
Uraraka’s annoying crush counter: 13. OK she finally gets rid of it in this episode (for now), but seriously, what was the freaking point of all those annoying repetitive scenes reiterating her feelings if she’s just gonna get rid of them in the end?
Tumblr media
I have no idea what the point of this is, honestly, except to prolong the “will they or won’t they” for no good reason.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It also ends up creeping me out because if that imitation theme, since Uraraka is still trying to be just like Deku and hasn’t learned a goddamn thing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She’s only bailed out from failing here by Momo, and frankly I think she should’ve had to fail here so she could learn a lesson, like Todoroki and Bakugou, and change a bit, and stop falling into the same pattern. Because she still hasn’t figured it out, as of the time of this writing. Nothing’s changed. She still just wants to be like Deku and hasn’t learned to see him as a flawed, human being who she genuinely connects with and loves on a personal level beyond hero-worship. And that’s a bad thing in HeroAca. So unless the series actually does the hard work of changing their relationship and letting Uraraka mature and learn what it really means to love someone (which is not hero-worshipping them from afar and trying to be just like them, whatever Toga might say), I can’t ship them. I just can’t get behind it in canon. I like the fanon for it, where the positive aspects of their relationship are focused on, with maturity and grace. But in the show…they’ve got a lot of work to do, if they’re gonna be an endgame couple. (And frankly, she has a long way to go before she can supplant Kacchan in Deku’s eyes as his confidante, hero duo teammate, and object of greatest admiration).
Tumblr media
Ah Inasa is great at wind!
Tumblr media
Seiji is so hilariously out of touch.
Tumblr media
Momo is just the best and we don’t deserve her.
Tumblr media
Oh look isn’t Uraraka doing so much better now she’s decided to pretend she doesn’t like Deku dammit Ochako why can’t be cool anymore.
Tumblr media
HAHA WOW BAKUGOU. I mean, you know what it feels like to be kidnapped and in need of rescuing, would you wanna be talked at like this? OK in hindsight, maybe he’s projecting his own feeling of inferiority onto these people - it’s himself he’s mad at, in the end, after all.
Tumblr media
I’m really jealous of that HUC guy right now. Why does everyone get to be carried by Deku except me.
Tumblr media
And now Ganga Orca. Ooh that fierce little smile on Deku’s face. I love it.
Episode 57 is ok. It doesn’t entirely feel like a complete episode, actually, because it’s so much a transition between two parts and an exposition dump about what part 2 of the exam entails. But there are some strong moments in it here and there, it’s full of adorable Deku scenes, and moves the plot forward nicely.
BKDK CORNER:
Nothing really, just the usual contrast between the two. Notably, both screw up in the rescue exercises at first, but Deku gets yelled at in return and ends up learning from his mistake. They’re definitely foils, as  always. Though in this arc, Deku has the advantage, because he’s been starting to embrace that other side of himself, and Katsuki still hasn’t.
BEST GIRL OF THE EP: I’m gonna go with Momo again.
RANKER: Weird and Whacky  BNHA institutions
5 The Business Course at UA
4 The MLA (Meta Liberation Army)
3 Hero Online Network
2 JP Hero Billboard Chart
1 HUC
The Evil Warlock
“Father,when can I go outdoors? I know you say the outside world is dangerous,but-but maybe I can prove you wrong!” Ochako pleaded.
Her father knotted her eyebrows and knelt down on the floor to be the same height as his daughter.
“My dear Uraraka,when your mum and I were young,we went out for a walk and a bad guy called the Evil Warlock killed your poor mother. The Evil Warlock has a potion that persuades people to join forces with him. And,there’s a lot of chance that you will touch the potion. I don’t want you to be evil,my dear. I told you this sad story many times,did I? Now go to take a nap,”
Ochako nodded and headed to her room. She has to go out of the world at least one day.
That afternoon nap,she can’t sleep. She tossed and turned on her bed,thinking of the outside world. She really wanted to go outside and explore.
“Creak!”
The door opened. Ochako sat up quickly,her heart beating.
“Would it be the Evil Warlock?” She thought.
She opened the door ajar and peeked her head out. She saw a shadow on the floor and didn’t dare to look up and see who caused the shadow. The person chuckled slyly and said,”Today,Ochako will join my evil forces! Daughter and father! How amazingly fun. Got my potion ready! I can’t wait. The Evil Warlock is getting more helpers!”
The poor teenager gasped quietly. It was her dad. Her dad was the Evil Warlock. But the worst thing is,her dad killed her beloved mother. Ochako burst into tears and ran towards the window,floating,and crying.
She was in the outside world.
It was a bright,beautiful place. Just like a legend. It was not like home, dark, gloomy and boring.
She smiled,full of delight. She escaped her house,she escaped her dad.
Her dad. Her dad’s the Evil Warlock.
***
“Where’s Ochako?” The Evil Warlock asked himself. He looked closely and saw glass on her bed and a broken window.
“Urgh!” He shouted,”I forgot about her silly quirk!”
But little does Ochako know,the Evil Warlock still has many evil plans in mind...
***
Uraraka ran as fast as her legs could take her,holding back tears. When she was tired,she sat down on the floor and breathed hardly,drinking the water she grabbed when she escaped.
The people walking on the street glared at her,seeing a strange girl sitting on the floor alone with wet cheeks.
Uraraka suddenly heard laughters at the other side of the street. There was about ten people.
A boy,just the same age of Ochako with sea green hair took notice of her. He tapped a person with a bird head and the bird head person also looked at her.
The poor girl stood up,ready to run.
“Wait!” A really tall man stopped her with his six long arms.
Ochako turned,and saw the boy with green hair who noticed her,a person with a raven head,a boy with spikey red hair,a blond boy with a grumpy face,a cute girl with pink skin,pink hair and with little horns on her head,a man who wears a blue mask with six long arms and mouths and eyes on them,a boy who looks like he was born in China with black,sharp hair,a girl with long,green hair tied up like a bow with a super long tongue,a boy who has sticks on his legs and with glasses and a short kid with purple balls on his head.
“Hi,do I know you?” Ochako asked. Definitely not.
“Of course we don’t know each other,DUMBASS!” The blond guy yelled rudely and continued watching a YouTube video on his phone.
Uraraka was shocked and stepped back a little.
“I’m sorry,don’t mind him,he’s...you know,a little bit rude to strangers. We just saw you lost and scared,and maybe we could take you home?” The green hair boy said nicely that calmed Ochako down.
“NO!” Uraraka screamed.
“Oh,I’m so,so,so sorry...” Uraraka smiled awkwardly.
She then explained everything that happened.
“The Evil Warlock?! It’s the villain all the heroes are inspecting about!” say the red haired boy.
Uraraka shifted uncomfortably and nodded like she was forced to.
“Oh sorry,we forgot to tell you our names,” the bird head said and sent a glare to the rest of them.
“Tokoyami Fumikage,” said bird head.
“Izuku Midoriya,” said green hair.
“Shoji Mezo,” said six arms.
“Tsuyu Asui,” said the frog tongue.
“Hinata Sero,” said China boy.
“Katsuki Bakugou,” scoffed blond boy.
“Hi! I’m Mina Ashido!” Pink girl with horns said excitedly.
“Mineta Minoru,and I would like to touch your breasts,” the kid stretched his hands out.
The glasses boy slapped the kid.
“Sorry,he’s a bit of a...a...pervert. I’m Iida Tenya,” the glasses boy saluted.
“Kirishima Ojiro,” red hair raised his hand,”And...you?”
“Ochako Uraraka,” she whispered.
Izuku looked hopefully to his friends. They immediately know what he wanted.
“Not in my dorm,she’ll be scared of the dark,” Tokoyami protested.
“DON’T LOOK AT ME,YOU STUPID,DAMN NERD!” Bakugou shouted and put on his earphones.
Ochako sat back down on the same spot on the floor.
“Tell Mr. Aizawa. Aizawa is our teacher,” Iida offered and advice.
“Yes,great idea. YOU THINK HE WILL ACCEPT THIS?!” Kirishima crossed his arms.
“It’s ok,if he doesn’t agree,he can stay with my mum and All Might,” Izuku beamed.
“Seriously,you live with All Might?” Shoji scoffed.
Midoriya shook uncomfortably.
“No-no! He visits everyday,you know...uh...we’re close!”
Everyone rolled their eyes and quickly turned back to Ochako.
“Come on then,follow me,we’re about to go to our dorm and get ready to have dinner anyways,” Asui held her hand out and Uraraka took it shyly.
They walked for ten minutes,also knowing more about Ochako on the way.
When they stopped in front of the school,Ochako exclaimed,”You go to UA? It’s my dream school! But...my dad doesn’t let me go to the entrance exam...”
***
“Mr. Aizawa,we have someone we want you to meet,” Sero said anxiously,already knowing the he will refuse the condition.
“Yes,Sero’s right,it’s a really cute girl named Ochako Uraraka! She’s nice by the way,just a little bit shy,” Mina took Ochako’s hand and moved her closer the Aizawa.
Aizawa turned and examined the girl,and frowned.
“We will not accept intruders! Take her out and tell her to go home!” Aizawa said blankly and turned away after.
Ochako turned away sadly and headed towards the exit.
“MR. AIZAWA! SHE’S THE EVIL WARLOCK’S DAUGHTER! SHE ESCAPED HOME USING HER QUIRK!!!” Izuku shouted,thinking of the aftermath if Ochako was not safe.
Aizawa’s eyes shone with light. “Come back,Uraraka!”
Uraraka stopped walking and turned around with a hopeful look in her eyes.
“You can stay if only you tell facts about your deadly father.”
She nodded.
“Very well. Now go take a shower in the right wing where the girls dorm room are when I tell Principal Nezu. Later I will show you to your room and protect you from the Evil Warlock. Then later dinner will be served. Oh,and I’m sure the bathroom with have some extra clothes. You can wear them if you want. Now go,” Aizawa said and crawled inside his sleeping bag.
“Don’t think he’s gonna tell Nezu,he’s gonna sleep,” Ochako heard Tokoyami whisper to Shoji.
But she didn’t care,as long as there’s somewhere safe for her — especially UA,it’s fine and she’s very graceful for it.
After taking a nice bath and changed her clothes,Aizawa showed her to her room.
Moments later it was 6:30. Dinner time.
Everyone gathered around the dining hall and got their dinner. The ten students that saved Ochako sat together and chatted non-stop (except Tokoyami,he was just sitting there eating his burger while listening to other people chat).
“Wait,I’ll be right back,” Izuku told his friends and slipped away.
***
“Knock,knock!”
There was someone knocking Ochako’s room. She opened her door and Izuku was standing there.
“Hi...um,you can come in if you want,” Uraraka told him,cause she couldn’t find any better idea than that.
Izuku handed her a tray with food on it.
“Here,I figured you don’t know where the dining hall is. So I got some food for you,it’s burger and fries,hope you like it. And also,the dining hall is downstairs. Just take the lift,you’ll find it at the end of the girls dorm area.”
Uraraka smiled at the kind boy.
“Thanks,Izuku,you’re so thoughtful.”
“I’ll always be here,” Izuku replied and got up,”You can eat,I-I’ll give you some privacy. See you soon.”
Ochako blushed and Izuku slammed their door.
Everyday,Ochako will nap,take a walk in the dorm gardens,check her phone,watch YouTube,and sometimes Koda’s rabbit will come stratch her door and she will play with that little guy. Izuku visits her everyday was normal and fun.
Days pasts by,Ochako and Izuku knew each other more and they got closer. And yesterday was Friday,and Izuku wants her to meet her mother,Inko Midoriya. Ochako was very excited about this.
Inko thought she was a nice,beloved girl and treated her well as a guest. She also let her sleep at the Midoriya house every weekend because the dorms won’t be open.
“Come on! I’ll show you to my room!” Izuku cried and led her way to his room.
It has light blue wallpaper but it was full of All Might posters and pictures and two All Might figures.
“You love All Might? I love him too! Sacrificed a lot,did he. But now he isn’t the No.1 hero...that’s sad. My favourite hero is No.13. I guess yours are All Might!” Ochako said and threw her hands up high in the air.
Izuku chuckled.
“Oh yes,I’m a big fan of All Might! Bakugou loves him too. He’s really cool,don’t you think?”
Ochako nodded and sat on Izuku’s bed. His bed is really soft,and it reminds her about her mother always tucking her into bed when she was a little tiny kiddo. But thinking of his mother,she remembered her father.
“But what about my father?!” She cried suddenly.
Izuku sat on his bed with Uraraka.
“Don’t worry,UA is safe,I heard that the pro heroes are after him,” Izuku said,comforting his friends.
“Thanks for everything.”
Midoriya beamed.
Ochako shifted closer to Izuku and put her head on his shoulder. Izuku held her face up and their lips smacked together. They both touched each other’s soft lips and till Ochako pushed him away playfully.
“I guess we can share the same bed today,” Izuku joked and they continued to kiss passionately.
***
“You and your father has Instagram,right? We are doing a search of your father and we need his location,” Aizawa asked Ochako.
“Oh yes,he does. I pulled a prank on him making an account. Thank goodness I did that,” she replied and handed him her phone.
“Oh god,he’s in Tokyo! We need to get there!”
Ochako really wants to stop her dad and she got an idea.
“Mr. Aizawa,let me go to defeat my father. I may know his plans and skills and help you defeat him. Please let me go,I could be useful!”
Aizawa shook his head and left.
***
“Izuku?”
Ochako explained everything to her boyfriend. After listening,Izuku kissed her on the cheek.
“Ochako,I’ll think about it and tell you if I’ll go with you tomorrow. Now go to sleep,I’ll wake you up tomorrow.”
Ochako sighed and kissed him on the lips to say goodnight.
The next morning,Izuku decided to go with Ochako to secretly go to Tokyo and defeat the Evil Warlock.
“Ring! Ring!”
Ochako picked up her phone.
“Hello?”
“It’s Aizawa.”
“Yes?”
“Quirk?”
At first Ochako didn’t know what he’s up to but she soon realised.
“Telekinesis.”
“Ok,thanks.”
And he hung up.
She called Izuku.
“Zuku,they’re going now! Quick,meet me in the gardens!”
“Ok.”
The couple quickly dressed and followed the heroes secretly to defeat the Evil Warlock.
The fight has only just begun...
Aizawa tied the Evil Warlock with his ropes on his neck and the warlock turned around.
“Oh,you found me. What smart little babies. These ropes tied to me are just a little silly trick for a villain. Don’t you know...?”
The warlock stared at the ropes and they immediately broke.
“Well,well,well...now WHO wants to fight...?” The villain asked and chuckled slyly,”I have many tricks up my sleeve...if your wondering. Prepare to die today.”
Izuku and Ochako arrived at the venue. Ochako’s eyes lit up.
“I have an idea.”
They ran the building next to where they are fighting and tried to budge open the door.
“It’s locked,” Ochako said,looking at Izuku.
“Oh no! So what do we do?”
“Smash it open.”
There’s a loud bang and the people who were fighting turned around but the two moved quickly and disappeared in the building. Ochako touched the walls and it parted from the building and floated.
“Izuku,hide and I’ll run to the other building and make the wall float. Here,take this AirPod and had in my pocket somehow,probably it was there when I escaped,and I’ll give you a signal to smash the rock open,right on father’s head. Remember,Aizawa is the closest to father,don’t kill him. Try your best.”
Ochako kissed him and left.
She ran as fast as her legs could take her and made the wall float.
“Zuku,now.”
“Got it.”
Izuku jumped and aimed at the middle. Ochako made the wall fall just in time and Izuku smashed both of the walls with his legs and it all collapsed on the villain.
The pro heroes looked up and saw two kids on top of the building and cheered.
It was always a happy ending. Or so they thought.
The next morning,they arrived back in the Class 1-A dorm.
But suddenly,Aizawa budge opened the doors and Izuku’s room,where Ochako and Izuku were talking about that fight.
“Did you know you two can get into big trouble?! That was a REAL VILLAIN! What can I tell Nezu?”
Izuku shrugged. Aizawa sighed and left the room. Ochako smiled at her boyfriend and kissed him fiercely and roughly.
But they didn’t know that something dangerous was coming in their way.
That night,Ochako was sleeping in her room,snoring softly. Suddenly,a cold,chilly breeze opened Ochako’s window. A man wearing a cloak and a mask stepped in and gently tied ropes around the girl,not waking her up.
“Let’s see how you escape me today,shall we...?” He let out a cunning,deadly smile and disappeared through the window along with Ochako.
***
“Uraraka! Wake up! You’re so late for breakfast!” Sero rushed into Ochako’s room and looked around. He lifted up the covers but there was no one.
“Ochako?” Sero called. There was no response.
“Hey,Yaomomo,check the bathroom and see if she’s there or she’ll miss breakfast!” Sero yelled as loud as he could.
Momo ran up the stairs and panted,”Roger that!”
She ran the the girls’ bathroom and called,”Uraraka-san! Are you here? Breakfast’s almost over,wanna come together?”
There was no response too.
She ran down to the dining hall.
“Izuku! Your girlfriend’s missing!” Yaomomo told Midoriya.
He jumped up from the chair and searched the whole dorm with Yaomomo and Sero. There was no one.
Izuku gulped loudly that everyone heard.
“There’s only ONE reason left...her father didn’t die.”
***
“No,do not go,” Aizawa put on his goggles and said firmly.
“I fought Overhaul! We won! I fought ten thousand villains! I don’t know if it’s that much...but still! Let me go save Ochako! Please!!!” Izuku pleaded.
Aizawa sighed.
“Fine,but now you go change,take Ochako’s phone downstairs and tell your dear friend Shinso to go with us. He might be useful.”
Izuku saluted.
***
The Evil Warlock took off Ochako’s blindfold. Ochako scanned the area and made a confused face.
“Where am I?”
She quickly caught a glimpse of her father and gasped.
“You! You...you! Didn’t you die?”
“I am not stupid,my beloved daughter. I saw the walls about to collapse on me and quickly moved away,” the warlock chuckled and took a bottle out of his belt.
“The potion!” Ochako let out a squeak,”I’m not joining forces with you!”
The warlock opened the cap bottle using his eyes.
“The thing is...you are. I made this potion for years,and I’m not gonna just put it aside and let it sit. Don’t worry my dear. No one’s going to save you...this MY secret lair!” The warlock raised the bottle and suddenly...
“YOU CAN’T BEAT US,WARLOCK!” Izuku shouted.
The gang glared at him.
“What are you doing?” Aizawa hissed,”I told you to FOLLOW my plan!”
Izuku apologised. “Sorry,I forgot!”
The villain clapped his hands and a dozen of wolves came out of nowhere. Ochako locked eyes with Shinso and got an idea.
“Father,I know I can’t escape this,so I have to join your forces,unfortunately. But before that,can I ask you a question?”
“Certainly.”
“Did you love me in the past when I don’t know you were a villain?”
“Of course I do. Why ask?”
“Cause I love you too. So farewell.”
The warlock gave a confused face to everybody. Ochako nodded to Shinso and mouthed,”Get ready.”
“I’m not going to die.”
The wolves growled fiercely and slowly stepped closer,snapping their mouths and saliva dripping.
Suddenly,the villain’s eyes went white.
“Walk forward to me,” Shinso ordered.
The villain walked to him.
The gang of heroes looked at each other and then ran to the villain and punched him till he fainted.
At the police station,Aizawa erased his quirk for a few seconds and the police handled him.
But at the dorm,a couple was on the bed,kissing till the moon goes down and the sun goes up.
Class 1A || The annual UA Hunt
For the BNHA Gen Secret Santa exchange at @bnhagensecretsanta. My secret santa was @mymusicismylife77. It was nice meeting you (if talking to you on anon counts...) and I hope you enjoy this!!!
SUMMARY:
THE ANNUAL UA HUNT IS HERE!
FIRST YEARS - YOU’LL BE SPENDING 12 HOURS IN USJ FINDING CANDY CANES AND BAUBLES AND OTHER ASSIGNED ITEMS! YOUR TEACHERS WILL BE OUT AND ABOUT READY TO ELIMINATE YOU! MAKE IT TO THE END AND YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO DO THE SURPRISE ACTIVITY!
GOOD LUCK AND PLUS ULTRA!
WORDS: 16k (It got a bit long)
NOTE: You might need to pay attention to the times. Nothing really important but I jump around a bit and have really long time skips whoops. (And I’m so sorry I’m late!! (It’s the 24th where I am)) (pls excuse the mistakes I’m going to come back to edit more properly lol)
DECEMBER 1 | 5:55AM | 5 MINUTES UNTIL THE HUNT
The snow piled on top of the dome. On a sunny day, they would have been able to see past the glass to the sky, but now, all they saw was the white nothingness. Though even if there had been no snow, it was too early in the morning for the sun to shine.
It was unsettling, to say the least. Especially when the students of class 1A felt quite alone in their designated areas. Though they stood with their team, the silence was almost unbearable. The fact that the teachers were supposedly somewhere near them did not help their nerves.
The timers on their watches beeped.
30...
Uraraka Ochako rechecked her suit, fighting off shivers and chills. Asui Tsuyu gave her an encouraging nod, mentally fighting off the cold. Iida Tenya and Midoriya Izuku shared a quick, soft smile. Todoroki Shouto scanned their area, the landslide looking exceptionally dangerous. It may have been early, but Team Christmas Tree was ready for the Hunt.
22...
Hagakure Tooru bounced on her toes, the movements of her gloves and boots giving her away. She refused to think about the cold, refused to think about how much she hated her “hero suit” at this moment, as she lifted a gloved hand. Her teammates, Ojirou Mashirao and Sato Rikido high-fived her.
18...
Jirou Kyouka leaned away as Aoyama Yuuga twirled around her and Yaoyorozu Momo. He was literally creating sparkles from his laser; from nerves or excitement or plain “Aoyama Yuuga”-ness, Jirou couldn’t tell. As impromptu her team had been, she was confident they’d be able to adapt to each other quickly enough, especially with Yaomomo in their team.
12...
Kouda Kouji whispered to the small ant on his hand, his initial fear of the insect subsiding as he spoke with it. Tokoyami Fumikage and Shouji Mezou watched as their friend let down the insect and as it crawled out and away from them. Kouda straightened, a shy smile on his face as he nodded; it was done.
6...
Bakugou Katsuki nudged Kaminari Denki and Ashido Mina, giving them a fierce glare as they jolted awake. They yawned loudly, the silence around them enhancing any noise. Sero Hanta shuffled away from some falling gravel, grabbing Kirishima Eijirou, sweating as he realised just how precarious the structure they were in was. It was too bad they’d been sent to the Ruins zone--with Bakugou’s quirk, it was all too easy to imagine everything crumbling down.
1...
In unison, class 1A tensed as their timers counted to zero.
Their watches beeped, signalling they were allowed to move.
An announcement poured into their ears, the familiar yell of Present Mic over the intercom.
“FIRST YEAR CLASS ONE AAAAAAAA! YOUR HUNT HAS BEGUNNNNNNNNNNNN!”
And as one, class 1A jumped into action.
Their Hunt had begun.
NOVEMBER 20 | BEFORE THE HUNT
“Sensei! What do you mean it’s only twelve hours? The poster said it was twenty-five!”
Aizawa Shouta stifled a sigh. It’s okay, he told himself, they just want to know. It’s not their fault they didn’t wait for you to explain. He paused. Oh wait, it is.
He intensified his stare, silencing the mumbling going around the class, Ashido slowly sliding lower into her seat.
“For the first years, your Hunt is only twelve hours. Next year, it will be eighteen. And in your third year--if you make it, that is,” He couldn’t help but add, enjoying the way some of them blanched too much. None of them had forgotten Mineta, though his expulsion had been a relief. And a reality-check. “Your Hunt will be twenty-five hours long. It’s to prepare you, slowly but surely.”
Another hand shot up.
“Yes, Kaminari?” He called tiredly. How many questions could they possibly have? Everything should have been explained in the posters damnit. All he was meant to do was explain the date, time, and the short paragraph he’d been given to read out.
“Why is it twenty-five hours?”
Bakugou scoffed, causing Kaminari to look at him.
“What? It’s a good question!”
“Like hell it is. Why do you need to ask? It’s Yuuei. They’re not gonna stop at two or twenty four hours. They have to go that extra fucking mile.”
“Plus Ultra, and all!” Sero added.
Aizawa nodded, already feeling his eyelids droop. He shouldn’t have stayed up so late with Hizashi making those stupid posters. Actually, Hizashi shouldn’t have left those damn posters so late in the first place. Actually, he should have just left him to deal with it on his own; Nemuri was right, he had a soft heart. “I’ll answer any further questions after I tell you this.” He cleared his throat, looking at the paragraph Nedzu had written. It was far too short to be informative, but the principal did have a knack for surprises--and he definitely wanted to surprise the first years.
Aizawa opened his mouth to read it out. “Number one. You will form groups of three to five, no more and no less. Two, food is provided in the neutral zone of the entrance and water is located in the drinking taps around each area. Three, teachers will be out to cuff and eliminate you. If you are caught, you will be brought outside to watch your fellow classmates succeed where you failed.” His lip twitched at that. Nedzu was being quite straightforward. ‘For fun and stress-relief’ his ass, he knew as well as anyone that this was going to be a test of ability for the students. It was merely poorly disguised. “Four, you will be given watches that will provide a timer, a button for help, the list of items you may be able to find, and your point counter. Five.” Aizawa raised his eyebrows slightly. “Good luck.”
The class was silent, eyes either on him or focused on the desk--great, the problem child already looked like he was planning something. Even greater, Bakugou was grinning like he planned to blow up the Simulation Joint.
“Well, I guess you all want to talk about it.” The sheer energy some of his students were emitting--namely Hagakure, Ashido, and Kaminari--told him enough. As soon as he dismissed them, they’d be on their feet chattering on and on. He might as well give them mercy. “You may talk about it for the rest of homeroom.”
As he’d expected, half the students were out of their seats, gravitating towards their friendship groups, probably creating their teams already. Aizawa sighed, slipping into his sleeping bag before shutting his eyes.
The temperature was much nicer indoors, better than the cold outside.
Aizawa fell asleep much faster than usual, to the sounds of his students’ chatter.
DECEMBER 1 | 7AM | 1 HOUR INTO THE HUNT
Uraraka scanned the rocky area, looking down at the slope and the buildings that jutted out. She found nothing in particular but still knew that something had to be there. From up high in the air--courtesy of her quirk and Asui’s tongue wrapped around her torso--she could see some of the other areas. She could even see the Central Plaza and make out the glint of the Golden Sack--though maybe that was just her imagination.
She twisted in the air, trying to spot something--anything, really--but found nothing that screamed out to her. She sighed, tapping Asui’s tongue to signal she was done.
There was a sudden tightening around her waist and she was slowly pulled lower and lower. When she touched down, she released her quirk, the effects of gravity returning, and Asui pulled her tongue back.
“Did you find anything?” Midoriya asked. She shook her head sadly.
“There wasn’t much. There’s lot to see on the grounds, but not here. Nothing, well, nothing really stood out enough to check it out,” Uraraka explained, shrugging. “No bots either. I guess it’s too rocky to have a bot roaming around this place.”
Iida stepped forward, a hand on her shoulder. “No need to worry Uraraka-san! We’ve only just begun the Hunt! We can explor--”
A burst of ice exploded from the ground, Todoroki suddenly yelling. “Move now!”
The other four ducked down, scrambling away as Todoroki blasted another wall of ice before following.
The ice triggered a landslide, rocks and debris raining down on them.
“What is it Todoroki-san?!” Iida called out, slowing to allow the boy to catch up.
“Midnight,” He said simply, all the explanation they needed. They nodded.
The hour they’d spent without seeing a single teacher had been far too quiet--suspicious, even. They shouldn’t have been surprised, and yet they still were. How she had managed to come up close enough that Todoroki had had to use his ice quirk in such a large burst...
At least they were on full alert now, eyes darting to every crevice in the landslides area.
They moved into formation; Todoroki in front, Iida and Midoriya at the back, and Uraraka and Asui in the middle. They’d planned that formation in case they ever needed a quick getaway from a threat, either from in front--which Todoroki would take care of--or the back--which Midoriya would take on. Putting Uraraka in the middle was so that she could use her quirk on the others, and in turn, Asui would be able to latch onto her and Todoroki, and then Iida would activate his engines to run, picking them all up on the way.
They continued to run for a good few more minutes, unsure of how fast Midnight was. Would she be able to catch up? Was she stuck in the ice? They doubted it; their teachers were craftier than that.
Todoroki swerved into a dark overhang, the crevice deep enough to hide the five of them as he created an extra layer of ice to protect them in case the overhang collapsed.
Uraraka leaned against a wall. The run had been rocky and dangerous--one wrong move and they could have gone sprawling down the hill.
“Do you think we’ve lost her?” Asui asked, staring worriedly at the entrance of the cave.
“For now, yes, but not for long.” Todoroki used his flames to light the cave more, moving his arm to look around.
Midoriya gasped, stopping Todoroki’s arm to leave it in one spot. A bauble sat in a hole, hidden enough that unless someone had been standing right where they were, it wouldn’t have been seen. Uraraka eagerly walked to it, snatching it and grinning triumphantly as she showed the glittering ‘2′ painted on it.
“We’ve found something! Finally!” She cheered, rubbing the bauble affectionately. When she remembered the others, she blushed, shyly handing it to Iida.
Their watches beeped. Their point counters now all said ‘2′. Their first points.
Iida smiled. “Well done Todoroki-kun! You found this cave, and so, you have found this bauble too!”
Todoroki shook his head, a small smile on his own face. “It was just luck. I did not see anything from the outside.”
“We should leave the cave now. There wouldn’t be anything else in here. If Midnight finds us, we’ll be trapped, kero.” They nodded, turning when a new voice spoke.
“It won’t be Midnight trapping you inside.”
They tensed, eyes landing on a familiar figure who stood at the mouth of the crevice.
Ectoplasm. Or, at least, one of Ectoplasm’s clones.
“I’ll be eliminating you all now.”
DECEMBER 1 | 7:15AM | 1 HOUR 15 MINUTES INTO THE HUNT
The sound of crashing and explosions filled the air--but it was distant, echoing off the dome.
Jirou looked above, aware of the way the rocks were suddenly all around them. She glanced behind her, meeting Aoyama’s distressed eyes and Yaoyorozu’s worried ones.
“Where do you think that came from?” Yaoyorozu asked, hand braced on the rocky wall. “It sounded terrible.”
“Perhaps it was Bakugou-san,” Aoyama suggested.
Jirou shook her head. “No, that was too...rocky, not like Bakugou’s explosions. It was like...like a landslide.”
“Ah!” Yaoyorozu gasped. “That’s right! The mountains area is right next to the landslides!” She nodded. “It was probably from there.”
The other two agreed silently and left it at that. No one really wanted to think about the implications.
Truthfully, the sounds had been one of the few things they’d heard. It was jarring, being in almost utter silence save for the sounds of their own footsteps and the falling of small rocks and gravel, to hear the loud booms. But it reminded them of the outside.
Had USJ always been so big? Jirou swore it hadn’t been so big before--not even during that USJ attack, and she obviously knew how isolated she had felt, being so far away from everyone else except for Yaoyorozu and Kaminari.
They’d been walking for so long, her feet were beginning to hurt, no matter how much she refused to acknowledge that. An hour and--what? Ten minutes?--her feet were already aching.
The worst part was that they hadn’t found anything but a candy cane, which had only been one point.
“Oh finally!” Aoyama suddenly cried out, pushing his head over Jirou’s shoulder to see the opening of the gap they’d been walking through. It hadn’t seemed so long and narrow when they’d first squeezed into it. They’d glimpsed the other side and had thought it would only be a good five minutes walk--it had ended up taking ten minutes. “I have never been so glad to see more rocks!”
Yaoyorozu and Jirou cracked small smiles. That was true.
But Jirou still held up a hand as she stopped a few feet away from the opening, plugging her earlobes into the rock and sending sound waves.
Nothing, nothing--wait.
She turned, looking up.
“Yaomomo, can you look behind you a bit? There should be something back there.” Yaoyorozu nodded, stepping back and looking up to see a small rock jutting out from above.
“Is it on that?”
Jirou nodded. “I can get it, though.” She extended an earlobe, reaching up and over, brushing against the surface of the rock--
She furrowed her brow, then sensed the slight beep within--
“TRAP!” She screamed, jumping backwards into the open.
Jirou’s eyes widened as she fell backwards, eyes on Aoyama as he lunged for her.
They wouldn’t make it.
The explosion knocked Aoyama to the ground, his hands instinctively reaching up and over his head. It rocked them and though his eyes were shut, he recognised the moment something fell over him, covering him from the light.
Oh non oh non--had a rock landed above him? Was he trapped? What about Yaoyorozu-san?
He risked peaking his eyes open, lifting his head to see a sort of metal roof above him.
Yaoyorozu coughed. “I-I just managed to get something out before anything hit us. Aoyama-kun, are you alright?”
He nodded, blinking rapidly. “Merci Yaoyorozu-san!”
“Guys!” Jirou called from the opening, ducking down to see them. “Are you alright?”
“Oui Jirou-san! My sparkle is fine too!” Jirou nodded slowly at that, slightly confused.
“Can you crawl out?”
“Yes Jirou-san!” Yaoyorozu said from behind. “Aoyama-kun, do you mind?”
Aoyama started crawling forward, his face scrunching in distaste as he noticed how much dirt and gravel had lodged itself in his suit. But he kept going forward, shaking his head to rid his hair of the excess dirt as soon as he made it out. Yaoyorozu followed suit and the team stood out in the open.
Aoyama turned, seeing the red in the corner of his eye. “Oh! Is that a candy cane?”
The other two stopped, turning to see the candy cane resting on top of Yaoyorozu’s metal sheet. Smiles broke out on their faces. Aoyama reached forward, eager to grab the candy cane when--
Ectoplasm leapt down, landing on top of the sheet, his boot crunching down on the sweet.
Aoyama lurched backwards, bumping into Yaoyorozu and Jirou, all their eyes trained on the teacher.
“Come on, can’t you give us a break?” Jirou muttered lowly, eyes narrowed.
He stayed silent--it was probably a clone--but charged forward and the trio dived to the side: Aoyama and Jirou to the left, Yaoyorozu to the right.
Ectoplasm’s leg snapped out, catching Yaoyorozu in the stomach, sending her rolling away.
“Yaoyorozu!”
She stopped rolling a few metres away, pushing herself up and squinting as Ectoplasm quickly ran after--her eyes widened, readying herself to produce something else when he suddenly swerved to the side, Aoyama’s laser shot missing.
He stood, hands behind his head as he shot laser after laser at the teacher, forcing Ectoplasm to dodge dodge dodge--
It allowed Jirou to come up from the side, her earlobes out and racing towards him--
They landed, sticking into the clone’s body and she let out a sound wave large enough that it melted back into, well, ectoplasm.
The three of them panted, left alone in the clearing. Yaoyorozu stood up shakily, dusting off the gravel from her cloak. Jirou walked over to her, helping her steady as Aoyama approached, trying to ignore the way his stomach ached.
“That was...” Yaoyorozu began.
“Surprising.”
“Terribly rude.”
The girls looked at Aoyama, who smiled. “Honestly, right after an explosion too!”
“I suppose we should expect nothing less from Yuuei.” Yaoyorozu said, nervously laughing. The other two agreed.
“Still.” Jirou twisted an earlobe around her finger. “It’s only the first hour and--” She glanced at her watch, “--fifteen minutes. What else will we have to face?”
They looked at each other, the reality check slapping them in his face.
Aoyama twirled on the spot, startling the other two. “Well, let’s not waste time then!” He stopped, grinning, almost sparkling. “We’ve got candy canes to find now!”
Jirou and Yaoyorozu glanced at each other, then back at Aoyama, who was already looking around the open mountainous space. They smiled.
None of them noticed that their point counter had gone up by three.
DECEMBER 1 | 7AM | 1 HOUR INTO THE HUNT
Midoriya didn’t hesitate once as he ran forward, using a small percent of One for All to push him forward; his arm pulled back as he charged it up, aiming straight for Ectoplasm.
“GO NOW!” He yelled.
Iida spurred into action, activating his engines as Uraraka used her quirk on her and Asui, Todoroki too far back to reach.
Midoriya was close--so so close. He waited until he was just a foot away, until his fist was a foot away, and heaved it towards Ectoplasm, the teacher having kept still.
He ducked and Midoriya punched the air, cracking the ground slightly from the force.
He couldn’t dodge Ectoplasm now and with the teacher jumping straight up and landing his head right into Midoriya’s stomach, he was forced to take the blow, eyes bulging.
Though it allowed Iida to run past, Uraraka and Asui holding on.
Asui shot out her tongue, wrapping it around Ectoplasm and pulling--
Their teacher was thrown into the air, spiraling down down down the slope, rolling and rolling until he disappeared below.
Iida gritted his teeth, hard, as he forced himself to stop before he followed Ectoplasm down.
It wasn’t enough. He was going to fall and bring the two with him damnit damnit--
Uraraka pressed all five fingers to shoulder and Iida went weightless--the three of them weightless together--
They slowly floated forward, Iida’s legs leaving the ground before Todoroki reached out and grabbed his foot, pulling the three back down.
When their feet were firmly on the ground, Uraraka released her quirk, her stomach only slightly upset. She sighed in relief--both in evading Ectoplasm and in her stronger stomach.
Then their attention was taken by the groaning Midoriya.
“Midoriya-kun! Are you alright?” Iida called, marching to the doubled over boy.
Midoriya raised his head, a shaky smile on his face. “Y-yep! Just...just fine.” He dropped his head again. “That was just a really, really strong headbutt,” He said, voice wobbling.
“It’s okay Midoriya-chan, we can stay for a bit while you recover,” Asui said, crouching down next to him.
“I don’t think so,” Todoroki spoke up suddenly, getting their attention. “Our watches haven’t gone off. We would have gotten three points if we had defeated Ectoplasm, but we haven’t. I don’t think he’s incapacitated.”
They blinked, all looking at their own watches for confirmation.
“We’ll be on the lookout for him!” Uraraka declared, pumping a fist in the air.
“And Midnight-sensei!” Iida added.
Midoriya shook his head, straightening slightly. “No, it’s okay, I can handle--” His cheeks puffed out.
“Midoriya, you shouldn’t push yourself. You’re clearly still recovering.”
“It’s just a headbutt guys, I’ll-I’ll be fine after I stand up.”
“A headbutt from Ectoplasm,” Asui corrected. “Though, I admit, I am a bit surprised. He must be stronger than expected to get such a reaction from you, Midoriya-chan.” She tilted her head. “After all, you manage with broken arms and--”
“Annnd that’s good Tsu-chan!” Uraraka interrupted, smiling apologetically at the other girl. She made to put a hand on Midoriya. “Don’t worry Deku-kun! Just relax--”
“Oh? So you were here all along?”
They tensed, blood freezing.
Midnight stood above them, perched on a ledge high up. She smirked down at them, holding her flogger whip from her shoulder.
Midnight licked her lips, her eyes narrowing.
“Seems like you were just attacked.” She rolled her shoulders. “Well, it’s not my problem.”
The atmosphere thickened as she shifted her weight.
“It’s so early to be eliminated.”
DECEMBER 1 | 8AM | 2 HOURS INTO THE HUNT
“Bakugou, if you growl one more time you’re going to turn into a dog.”
“Shut up pinky.”
Screech.
“Hey! I thought we graduated from stupid nicknames!”
“Not when you’re being annoying.”
Clang.
“Guys--”
“Hmph! You’re the one being annoying, growling like a dog at this and at that!”
“Guys--”
“Well, maybe if we’d start doing something I wouldn’t be so restless.”
Clang clang.
“Guys!” Sero yelled, eyes widening at how loud his voice had been. The bickering two stopped to stare at him; Kirishima nudging Kaminari to wake the blond boy up more. “Didn’t you hear that?”
“Hear what?” Kirishima asked, looking around them at the creepy buildings.
“I don’t know, like, something moving?”
Bakugou scoffed. “We’ve been hearing these buildings fall apart for hours. That’s nothing new, damnit.”
Sero shook his head, determined to make them hear it too. “No, no it was new. Not like something had broken. Like something had been pushed off.” He held up a finger. “Just-just wait, yeah?”
They waited for a good twenty seconds, though some more begrudgingly than others.
Nothing.
“Oh come on!” Sero groaned, throwing his arms into the air. “So when I need them to hear it you don’t make a sound!”
Kirishima patted his shoulder. “Don’t worry Sero--”
“Oof, you alright there Sero? Not going crazy?” Ashido poked his helmet. Sero sighed, stepping away. It was no use. Unless he heard it again, unless they all heard it, they probably wouldn’t believe him.
They continued walking, eyes on all sides.
The ruins were creepy. They’d nailed that aspect of this area, at least. The buildings were tall and leaning against each other precariously. There had to be more around here, but so far they’d found only three candy canes and one bauble--their points adding up to four in total.
It wasn’t the same as before--during the USJ attack--Kirishima had to admit. It was quiet, so so quiet, so unlike the way they’d been attacked from all sides by villains back then. He was happy to be with his friends.
Kaminari yawned again--getting him another harsh nudge to the back.
“Goddamn, how tired can you be?” Bakugou huffed.
“I’m sorry okay!” Kaminari said, raising his arms in surrender. “I’m not used to waking up at the buttcrack of dawn!”
“It wasn’t even that early!”
“For you!” He retorted. “No normal person wakes up at five to do morning jogs you know.”
“Hah? What do you mean no normal person? People who want to fucking exercise will do that.”
“Ughhhh, we already do so much exercising at school. I can’t figure out how you want to do more--”
“Okay that’s enough,” Ashido interrupted, pushing forward to lead the way through the streets. Or fake streets. She still wasn’t sure whether she was impressed by the authenticity of it all. It seemed too real to be fake. Had it really been built like this? Or did Yuuei just build around a ruined--
“Wow, it’s not like it was you and Bakugou fighting just a minute ago,” Kaminari mumbled, pouting.
Ashido simply smiled as they broke into a crossroad, a few cars piled up in the middle.
As they neared it, she gasped excitedly. “Oh oh guys guys! I think I see a candy cane! Finally!”
She raced forward, Kaminari hot on her heels. There hadn’t been a rule about not eating the candy canes, and so far, they’d all given the lollies to him. Apparently, they were trying to ‘wake him up’ with sugar. He’d keep faking his sleepiness if it meant he got all the candy canes.
The other three followed more slowly, looking around.
Sero’s gut clenched. It was too easy. Right in the middle of the road. He fingered his helmet, using the new upgrades the support department had added--heat vision, night vision, to name a few--since the start of winter.
With the heat vision activated, he turned as he walked, looking at the buildings, down the road, the roof--
The roof!
“Ashido! Kami! Duck!”
The duo did as told without question, ducking and diving to the sides as a few bullets shot out towards them, shattering one of the car’s windshield.
Bakugou grinned, crouching. “Snipe, huh?”
“Hm? Yeah, why?” Sero turned--
Just in time to see Bakugou running forward, the bullets narrowly missing him as he propelled himself with his explosions.
“Bakugou!” Sero and Kirishima yelled. They glanced at each other, before clenching their jaws and rushing after him.
Bakugou raised his arm up high, in the direction of where the bullets were coming from--
BOOM!
He smirked at the explosion, the satisfying recoil of his shoulder as he continued forward, leaning down to grip Ashido’s collar and heave her up.
“Let’s go damnit!”
She swayed but steadied herself, following him across the road and behind the building. They glanced back to see Kirishima and Sero yank Kaminari up, running after them.
“So what do we do?” Kirishima asked when they regrouped.
Bakugou’s grin was near-feral. “We take him out, of course.”
Kaminari stared. “Do we even get points for getting him?”
Sero tapped at his watch, scrolling through the activity sheet quickly. “Uhhh--” He reached the end, the last activity glaring up at him: ‘FIND SANTA AND THE GRINCH!’ He looked above it, finding what he was looking for. ‘INCAPACITATE A TEACHER WITH THEIR OWN CUFFS - 20 POINTS!’ “We get twenty points.”
“Hell yes!”
“Oh hell no, do you think we can take him?” Ashido said, incredulous.
“What? You think we can’t?”
“Well, I mean, it’s Snipe and--”
Bakugou cut off Kirishima. “And invisible girl and four-arms--”
“Shouji?”
“--won against him during exams. This’ll be a piece of cake.”
Sero shook his head. “Sorry, I’m not convinced. They had quirk suppressants and weights on back then.”
“And they were only two against him. We’ve got five against one.” Bakugou sighed, irritated. “Do you really think we’re all that fucking weak?”
Kirishima smiled at the phrasing. “We can’t slip up this early in the game.”
But Kaminari was nodding, a grin forming. “You know what, I think we can take him on.”
“Hah! See?”
“Yeah,” He said absently as the idea grew on him. “Yeah! Come on guys! Let’s do it!” Kaminari stood straighter, his arms raised in excitement. “We’re class 1A! If anyone can take him on, it’s us! Five against one!”
Ashido raised an eyebrow at him as she murmured to Sero, “Motivational speech much?”
Bakugou clapped Kaminari on the back--probably a bit harsher than what was normally deemed affectionate. “So you do have some guts!”
He turned to the others, his grin downright feral now.
“We’ve gotta go plus ultra, right?”
Sero looked at Ashido, then Kirishima. He wasn’t sure they were sold yet, but he knew if the two kept at it, they probably would be soon.
“Brave words for people standing around unguarded.”
The five shots were impossibly loud in the otherwise silent ruins.
DECEMBER 1 | 9:30AM | 3 HOURS 30 MINUTES INTO THE HUNT
Aizawa grimaced as the familiar screaming of Yamada filled his ears. Well then, he thought bitterly, it seemed he was on the move. He wasn’t sure if it was a bad thing.
No one had made a move on the golden sack. Which was good. He didn’t really want to fight this early in the Hunt; didn’t want to eliminate any of his students this early. Of course he wanted them to have fun--god, did they deserve to have fun--but it didn’t mean he was going to go easy on them.
Nevertheless, as Yamada’s screams echoed from the Flood zone, Aizawa felt a shift in the Simulation Joint.
Yamada’s voice would be heard from all over.
It was a wake-up call for everyone.
Maybe he would need to prepare.
DECEMBER 1 | 9:30AM | 3 HOURS 30 MINUTES INTO THE HUNT
“See anything?” Hagakure called out to Sato, a few metres away on her left. She refused to let herself shiver, knowing that if she started, she probably wouldn’t be able to stop. Ugh! She really hated her ‘hero suit’ right now. No, actually, she hated that the USJ wasn’t heated properly. Come on--did the teachers even care about them?!
Sato shook his head, sighing. “Nothing! The water’s too dark. Was it always this dark?”
Ojirou jogged back over. “I don’t think so. I think they made it darker for the Hunt.” Sato groaned.
“That makes things so much easier for us.”
“If only we had Tsu-chan with us!” Hagakure said as she walked over. “Hey, Sato, are you sure we can’t eat the candy canes?”
Sato looked thoughtful for a few moments before shrugging. “Well, they didn’t really say anything about eating it. Or not eating it. So...”
“So can I eat one?” She asked hopefully, clasping her hands together. “It’s already nine thirty! We’ve got the points from the candy canes, they can’t take it away right? Because, technically, we still have the candy canes--it’ll just be in my stomach!”
The boys glanced at each other, smiling at Hagakure’s logic. It was...technically right.
Her stomach rumbled. Loudly.
“Oh! That’s-that’s embarrassing!” Hagakure squealed, hands on her face. “Don’t look at me! I’m just starving! Ahhh!”
Sato scratched the back of his head, reaching into one of his pouches. “I guess we should have some. To keep our energy up.” He pulled three candy canes out--three of the five they had--and handed one each to the others, keeping one for himself.
So far, Team Spirit had eleven points. They had probably exhausted the supply of candy canes and baubles in the flood zone, having found most of the candy canes as they went down the water slide.
That had been a disaster. The water slide had had an explosive halfway through, and as Ojirou slid down, he’d triggered it, collapsing the slide. He’d splashed safely in the water though, but not before giving Hagakure and Sato mini heart attacks.
There’d been three candy canes in the slide alone. They weren’t complaining, it was a good thing, especially since they hadn’t found anything else after that.
Ojirou had seen something glittering underwater though, and he’d attempted several times to swim towards it, only to come up sputtering and coughing. It was too deep but he had sworn it was a bauble--a shiny, golden one too.
So now they were peering into the dark water, trying to find more, closer baubles but with no luck.
“Should we just leave? I don’t think there’s a chance of us getting whatever’s down there unless you’re sugar rush gives you bigger lungs,” Ojirou said, looking at Sato.
Surprisingly, the boy blinked in thought. Then shook his head. “Man, I got really hopeful there but...” He sucked on the candy cane resentfully. “Even if I did get bigger lungs, I’m not confident that I’d make it back up safely--cause I get sleepy and all.” Ojirou nodded, understanding.
“So!” Hagakure started. “What should we do? If we leave, where do we go?”
They looked around.
The conflagration and ruin sections were next to them, but they were sure some of their classmates had been put in those areas. Would it be a good or bad thing to run into them? Would the competition be too intense? Would there be anything left in those areas?
“Maybe we should try just going down into the general area? And take down some villain bots?” Sato suggested. The other two thought about it for a few moments.
“That sounds like a good idea! But...well…”
“What is it, Hagakure?” Ojirou asked.
“Like, is anyone else down there? It’s silly, never mind!”
“No no, go on, it’s okay,” Sato insisted.
“Well, I just think if no one else is down there, does that mean we’re doing a bad job? Only because that means they’re all still looking and haven’t given up on their areas!” She added hastily.
The boys nodded slowly. She had a point. They glanced at each other. Were they giving up too easily?
“HEY HEYYYY!”
They froze momentarily, turning to see Present Mic standing on top of the rocks, staring down at them.
“YOU KIDS ALRIGHT?!” They swallowed, Sato finishing the rest of his candy cane--it wasn’t his pure sugar, but it was still sugar. “WELL EITHER WAYYYY! I’M GONNA HAVE TO TAG YOU ALL NOW, YEAH!”
Present Mic opened his mouth.
“COVER!” Ojirou yelled, bracing himself.
The scream was piercing. It hurt and made their heads ache no matter how hard they pressed their hands to their ears.
Ojirou gritted his teeth as he pried his eyes open, staring at the water. It was rippling--but would it muffle the sound?
At this point, anything was better than the screams.
He let go of his ears--loud loud loud--and lurched forward, grabbing Hagakure’s gloved hand and Sato’s torso with his tail. Sato opened his eyes, wordlessly asking the question.
“THE WATER!” Ojirou yelled. He doubted they heard, but Sato nodded, and all Ojirou could do was hope Hagakure had understood too.
They ran forward, leaping into the air and splashing into the cold water.
Instantly, it filled their ears--good, oh thank goodness it really did muffle the screams.
Present Mic stopped, watching the trio disappear underwater. He grinned. “Ah, smart kids. Really, why’d they put me in the water area?” The grin darkened. “Ah well. I conquered water a long time ago.”
He leapt down from his perch on the rocks, stepping into the water until he was knee deep. He sighed. “Man, and I just got this dry-cleaned too.” Shaking his head, he inhaled deeply.
Hagakure gasped, bubbles escaping her lips as the water rippled. The other watched her worriedly as she began to thrash, swimming up and up, losing her hold on Ojirou’s hand. They followed--it was probably a better time than any to get a breath of air in.
As soon as they broke the surface, the screams returned with full force, their gasps of air lost in the noise.
Hagakure ducked back down, the vibrations in her skull making it hard to figure out where the screams were coming from--she hadn’t had the nerve to stay above water for too long.
They swam as far as they could, breaking the water to breathe and duck back down.
How long was the lake again? How long had they been swimming for?! Sato thought tiredly. He glanced at the other two, meeting Ojirou’s eyes. We have to take him out. He wasn’t sure if the message was conveyed, but the boy nodded.
Hagakure gurgled something incoherent, pointing ahead.
A dark mass loomed just in front--the ship!
Bracing themselves, they waited until they were right next to it before swimming up.
Present Mic frowned, stopping to rest his throat. He hated having to push that hard to be heard underwater. Now, where were they? “Great job Hizashi--you lost them.” Probably for the better, he added to himself. He didn’t really want to have an underwater battle--his clothes were far too good for that and this early in the Hunt? He was not going to fight the other students sopping wet.
Meanwhile the trio were slowly swimming around the boat, finding a ladder to get on or at least hold onto.
“It stopped. He stopped.” Sato huffed out.
“Not for long though. I’m sure he’s gonna start any time now.” They nodded.
Hagakure looked down, squinting at the water. “I’m going to see if there’s any baubles on the hull!” She breathed deeply and ducked down before hearing their responses, using her hands to propel herself forward through the width of the ship.
Nothing nothing nothing. Dangit! There had to be something right? The ship had been the one thing they hadn’t checked yet, considering it was out in the middle of the lake and she really hadn’t wanted to jump in--it looked way too cold for her, and well, it was. She was shivering already.
You know what? Stuff it. I’m asking for a cloak or a jacket next time, she thought, resolved. Invisible girl or not, she wasn’t going to freeze for the next few months.
Her hands hit a spherical object, the ball-like thing attached to the hull. She brightened--a bauble! And a pretty, sparkly one too!
She shoved it out, pulling it from the hull just as more screams rippled through her brain. Argh! Could he just stop already? It was beginning to force a harsh headache.
The bauble sunk as it ripped from the hull and Hagakure turned it over in her hands, her eyes widening at the painted ‘4′ on it.
Four points! That was great!
She was reminded of her limited air and hurried to push herself forward when suddenly the bauble opened--opened to reveal four robotic arm-like things that latched around her hand.
She winced, but continued swimming--whatever it was, she’d inspect it above water, her lungs were beginning to--
Yank!
Something was pulling her back--no, not her, her hand--the hand with the bauble attached.
She struggled, pulling her arm as far as it could but it was like-was like a magnetic force!
The bauble was still attracted to whatever it had been attached to.
And now it was pulling her along.
Oh no no no--Hagakure fought to keep her mouth closed, fought to stop herself from screaming. Oh no--was she going to drown? No, no she wouldn’t, Yuuei wouldn’t let her.
But if she didn’t get out soon she was going to pass out.
She stopped resisting and instead focused on the bauble--the robotic arms were skinny, but metal and strong, it dug into her hand painfully.
She used a nail to pick at it, gave up, and went to shove it off, the way she’d shove off a bracelet that was too small on her. It scratched her hand as it moved--but it moved! And that was the main thing.
Pushing pushing pushing, Hagakure tried not to let the squeezing of her chest affect her. One arm of the bauble was nearly off--and it was gone! It left a stinging line on her hand and even though she couldn’t see it, she knew it’d be there.
Using the now free arm, she pulled at it, getting the second one off--good good, just a bit more--and then she used both to pull it more effectively.
She was turning blue--well, she couldn’t see herself turning blue but she hadn’t held her breath for so long before. If she wasn’t turning blue then she didn’t know what she was. Was she even making sense? Her panic increased, but she tamped it down, refusing to let it surface. If she panicked now, it would be all over.
She was hero! She wouldn’t panic!
With one last, desperate, heave, the bauble ripped off of her hand and she sent it sinking away. Did they get the points? Agh, who cares who cares--she did, she didn’t want to disappoint her friends--she needed to breathe!
A large arm caught her on her back and suddenly, Hagakure rushed forward, water streaming past in bubbles.
Sato! And by the looks of him, he’d devoured some sugar!
Sato kicked his enhanced legs, his mind slightly furry around the edges, but he knew he had to get Hagakure up and breathing--how long had she been down there? They hadn’t realised--Present Mic had been so loud--until too late, until it had been at least thirty seconds. Maybe more. He couldn’t tell.
They burst through the water, Hagakure immediately breathing in a lungful, maybe two, of air, coughing and wheezing as she clutched Sato’s arm.
Sato glanced hazily at her, unsure of what to do now.
Luckily Ojirou had made his way around the ship, finding his teammates and letting out a sigh of relief.
“You guys okay?” He called, swimming over to them.
Hagakure nodded, then coughed. “I-I--”
Ojirou shook his head. “It’s okay, take your time. You got us four points! That’s great Hagakure!”
Blinking the watery tears away, she beamed--thank goodness! At least it hadn’t been for nothing.
“You okay there, Sato?”
“Hmm? Yeah...just...” He shook his head, blinking rapidly to wake himself up. He couldn’t get sleepy this early. “Good job Hagakure-san! That was a good idea.”
She smiled again, her coughing subsiding.
“Wait, what’s that?”
They all stopped, peering at the small metal stick still hanging onto Hagakure’s hand.
“Eep! Gross gross!” She shrieked, shaking it off. It didn’t sink immediately, so Ojirou took it in his hand, looking at it closely.
Tiny golden letters shone on the side--Hatsume industries!
He blinked. Wasn’t that that...determined support department student? The one that had used her gadgets during the festival? And helped make most of their suits?
“Looks like they get support students in on the fun too!” Hagakure said, somewhat less bubbly. “That was a really scary invention though.”
“What did it do?”
“I think it was magnetic! It grabbed onto my hand and pulled me back!” She shuddered. “I do not want to know how she comes up with these things.”
“YOU KIDS ALRIIIIIIIIIIGHT?!”
They started; Present Mic had moved, standing half in the water but still relatively close to the shore.
He watched the trio. He had been starting to get worried. From what he recalled, none of them had underwater breathing like quirks, so not seeing them for a while had been concerning. Plus, Thirteen and Recovery Girl would kill him if he had just stood around doing nothing--Hunt or not.
They didn’t respond, merely swimming away and behind the ship. He frowned. He was being considerate! “WELL I GUESS YOU ARE THEN! GET READY!”
He continued to scream, almost bored. No matter though, he was not going in the water either way. He knew he’d be getting an earful from the other teachers as soon as this was done. Aizawa and Kayama were sure to ask how he’d gone. His fights were never quite interesting. All he could say was--
“HOLY CRAP!”
He dived to the side, sloshing water out of the way as a--was that a lawn chair?! As a lawn chair was launched towards him.
“WHAT THE HECK?!” He looked up, his glasses askew, at the team that had made it onto the ship--how fast had they climbed?!--and now the yellow one was chucking probably whatever was on the ship at him. He groaned. He’d been too soft and now look at him, cowering at furniture!
He waded out of the water quickly--hating how soggy his pants felt, damnit, there better be no cameras around here--and dodged another lawn chair. His only comfort was that they had to run out of furniture soon.
Oh wait.
He crouched, waiting until something else was thrown--this time a lamp, were they going below deck too?--and then popped up.
“YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!”
The yellow boy visibly winced, crouching down and behind the railing of the boat. He did not stand up for a while and Yamada did not see the other two.
Maybe he should stop for a bit. If their eardrums got shot, Recovery Girl would be on his ass about it for weeks.
He relented, resting his throat for a bit, hands behind his head as he whistled.
Eh, they could spend the whole day like this unless either one of them made a move.
Yamada turned his head slightly, keeping an eye on the boat to see the Central Plaza--
“Oh man! Someone’s out there!”
He glimpsed a group of students running out and towards the Central Plaza. From where he stood, he couldn’t see where Aizawa was but the teacher was probably somewhere in there--
WHACK!
Yamada fell to the side, his face pounding as it hit the ground. Damnit, how had he missed--what had he missed again?
A shadow loomed over him and he froze--oh no.
“Sorry sensei, but--” A jingle of metal and Yamada tensed, ready to get up when-- “Oh. That’s a big caterpillar.”
Yamada’s blood curled.
Where? Where?!
He screeched, jolting up and butting heads with the student--Ojirou, that’s his name--and frantically roamed his hands over his own body, feeling the hated tingling of bugs crawling over him even through clothing.
“WHERE? AHH WHERE IS IT?!”
“Sensei--wait! Are you--”
“AHHHHH!” He screamed, unintentionally activating his quirk.
He couldn’t find the caterpillar but ooh something was crawling on him, the sensation tickling his hair--his hair!
“It’s in my hair isn’t it?! ISN’T IT? MY HAIR!”
A click of metal and suddenly his arm was cuffed.
Huh.
How’d that get there?
He looked up to see the other cuff floating in the air along with a watch. Ohhh. The invisible girl.
“Good thinking Ojirou! You took advantage of his fear of bugs!”
The tailed boy blinked. “His fear...of bugs?”
“Mmhmm! Jirou told me he was scared of bugs! I completely forgot about that until now!”
“Oh.” Ojirou looked at him, suddenly guilty. “I’m sorry sensei, I really didn’t know. It was just a really big caterpillar.”
Yamada clenched his jaw as he tried to smile.
Their watches beeped.
“Oh my god! Thirty five points guys! THIRTY FIVE! SATOOOO!” The watch bobbed up and down--maybe she was pointing at it. Yamada smiled at the weak yell. He tried to squash the thought. Get on my level, kid.
Ojirou helped him up, smiling apologetically. “Really, sensei, I’m sorry. I didn’t know--”
“Ah it’s okay kid.” It really wasn’t. How could the world hate him so much. “Good job you two.” He was going to get such an earful from Recovery Girl. “Now I gotta take myself to the Entrance.” A walk of shame. “Better spend this time wisely while I’m not here to bless ya with my voice.”
Ojirou and Hagakure glanced at each other--blessings, huh?
“Good luck with the rest of the Hunt, YEAHHHH! I’ll be coming for you all!” Yamada savoured their pale faces--well, the boy’s paling face. He turned swiftly, hurrying away to the Entrance through the back of all the areas.
He did not want the other teachers to see him.
Team Spirit met up on shore again as Sato used his strength to swim fast.
“AWESOME GUYS! YOU DID SO GOOD!” Sato grinned, high-fiving his teammates.
“So did you Sato! You have good aim!” Hagakure replied.
He blushed, shaking his head. “Nah. I was honestly worried I was going to chuck you two out of the zone. How’d you manage to get him in the end?”
Ojirou turned away, looking down as he scratched his cheek. “I...I said there was a caterpillar and Yamada-sensei...well...”
“He freaked! He freaked sooo badly Sato! Jirou wasn’t kidding when she said he was scared of bugs!”
Sato raised his eyebrows, glancing at Ojirou. Clearly this win wasn’t the type he’d enjoy; even if he had unknowingly taken advantage of their teacher’s fear. He patted Ojirou on the shoulder. “Don’t worry about it, Ojirou. They’re not gonna pull their punches, so why would we?”
“Yeah Ojirou-kun!” Hagakure added. “I nearly drowned back then! All’s fair in love and war!”
Ojirou smiled weakly, thinking, Is this a war now?
“Anyways, we’ve got sooo many points now! I think we can go get something to eat!”
Sato checked his watch, eyes bulging. “Whoa! It’s ten past ten! We fought for a while!”
As one, their stomachs all rumbled, eliciting various degrees of embarrassment.
“Yeah, let’s just get something to eat now.”
“Mmhmm! Before Yamada-sensei comes back!”
That got a shudder from all of them.
As cheerful and boisterous as their teacher had been, the way he’d said ‘I’ll be coming for you all!’ did not reassure them at all.
Not one bit.
DECEMBER 1 | 10:30AM | 4 HOURS 30 MINUTES INTO THE HUNT
“Taken down by some bugs?! AGAIN?”
“Ehehe, well...”
“Don’t you ‘well’ me Yamada! Pathetic! You’re a pro! Your students are braver than you!”
Yamada sunk into his seat as Recovery Girl roughly unlocked the cuffs, practically fuming at the ears.
“That’s a good thing! You know...for them...to be...” He stopped talking as she gave him a glare.
“You know just as well as I do what I meant! Hmph!” She bustled over to the cameras. “So early in the Hunt too! Look at them all! Aizawa’s managing with a whole flock of those students!”
Yamada grimaced. He could only hope the old woman wouldn’t tell anyone but that was unlikely.
“Wait till they hear about this!”
Yep.
Unlikely.
Impossible.
DECEMBER 1 | 7:30AM | 1 HOUR 30 MINUTES INTO THE HUNT
Kayama sighed for the fiftieth time.
What a time to be stuck in ice.
She wriggled her arms, stretching them over her head. She really shouldn’t have underestimated them--shouldn’t have underestimated the fact that the winter cold would help Todoroki’s ice powers in this way.
Though, she supposed, they had put up a good fight. If it weren’t for Todoroki’s surprise at the end, she might have eliminated them all. She smiled; how terribly cruel that would be, eliminating them when the fun’s just begun. She’d cut off their youth-fueled energy just like that.
Still, she gripped her flogger whip tighter and continued her chipping. It was such a tedious job, the ice wouldn’t give way at all, and when it did, only the barest fractions fell away. And with Ectoplasm out of commission--or at least, one of his clones--she wasn’t going to get any help anytime soon.
She glanced up at the camera drone hovering above and waved.
“I wouldn’t mind a little help you know!” She called out to it.
It bobbed away.
She sighed again. Recovery Girl was probably huffing and puffing at her ‘incompetence’. Well, she thought in defence of her imaginary argument, at least the kids hadn’t been able to cuff her.
Todoroki had been too focused on stopping her from eliminating his dazed teammates that he hadn’t been able to hold back and, though it was kinda a win-lose situation, he’d frozen her all the way up to her neck, leaving her head out. They hadn’t been able to cuff her, unfortunately. Fortunately for her though.
Kayama glanced around, searching for anyone.
And when she found no one, she let a bit of her composure slip.
“Damnit just melt already why are you so freaking cold what is this ice made of--”
A mechanical but familiar voice spoke from the side and she froze.
“Maybe you should have been more on your guard instead of being so caught up in their ‘youth’! Hmph!”
Kayama smiled at the drone that made it’s way around her, waving. “Nice to see you too, Recovery Girl.”
“You can’t see me! But I can see you! Stuck in that pile of ice.” Incoherent muttering came from the drone, and Kayama could only imagine the scorn. “It’ll take another half hour to get free of that by the looks of it.”
“It could take shorter--”
“Good luck Kayama.”
Kayama slumped, pouting. She lifted her whip, saw that it was being worn down instead of the ice and clenched it tighter.
Those kids were going down.
DECEMBER 1 | 8:30AM | 2 HOURS 30 MINUTES INTO THE HUNT
“Split up damnit! SPLIT! UP!”
“No Bakugou I don’t-don’t leave me with him!”
“WHO SAYS HE’S GONNA GO AFTER YOU?”
“LOOK AT HIM! HE’S GONNA KILL ME PLEASE BAKUGOU--”
Bakugou grunted in irritation as he rounded the corner, stopping short at the half-crumbled doorway. Beams were placed haphazardly across it, and there was only one opening he could try. Everywhere else was too small. He took off his gauntlets, pushing them through first.
Kaminari bumped into his back, winced as he clutched his nose.
“Is your head made of rock?! Dang that hurt!”
“Maybe you should watch where you’re going damnit.”
“Why have we stopped? He’s right behind us!”
Kaminari glanced behind him, fearfully waiting the moment Snipe would round the corner and shoot them dead. He still thought the bullets were real, no matter what the others said. They broke through the road and shattered glass--real or not, it would hurt!
“Bakugo--” He stopped dead as he turned back, finding Bakugou’s foot slipping past into the crumbled doorway. “Wait wait wait! How am I supposed to fit through? Bakugouuuuu!”
“Just fit through. Bend or something, I don’t care. Hurry up, or you won’t be able to catch up.”
As his footsteps receded, Kaminari’s panic increased. First of all, he wasn’t as flexible! Second of all, how was Bakugou that flexible in the first place?
Kaminari jumped as a shot hit the wall. Snipe was coming oh great Snipe was coming near.
He hastily jammed a foot through the opening he’d seen Bakugou fit through, gritting his teeth past the pain as it scratched against his clothes. He lowered as he got the rest of his right leg through, using the wall to support himself as he twisted to fit his shoulder.
“You’re being incredibly slow.”
Kaminari jumped. Snipe stood at the corner, watching him with guns raised. He lifted his left arm.
“Please don’t shoot me I’m innocent!”
“What?” Snipe muttered lowly. “Never mind.” He cocked his gun up higher, walking forward as he took out a pair of cuffs from behind. Kaminari’s heart raced--no no no he couldn’t get out.
He sped up, pushing the rest of his body through and getting his head and other shoulder out. But his left leg was still on the other side and--
Another shot rang out and a beam fell, trapping his foot.
“Oh crap.” His face blanched. “Oh craaaaap! No no no! Get off get off get off!” He pulled at his leg uselessly, twisting his foot this way and that but it didn’t budge, in fact it only made the beam slip lower, putting more pressure. Kaminari turned his head. He was in another room, but there was a hole leading to the next one over. Was Bakugou in there? “Bakugou! Bakuuu! Gouuuu! Please help me please please please--”
A shadow fell over him and he yelped as he glimpsed Snipe through the beams. He could electrocute the teacher--he knew that--but what if Snipe cuffed him first? Who’d be faster? And what if Snipe jumped as he shocked the ground? And then he’d be out of commission for the next few hours?
He didn’t want to find out. Not if it meant risking that much.
But Snipe was looming closer and with a resigned expression, Kaminari shut his eyes, mentally preparing himself for the shock--
BOOM!
The explosion rocked him to the side, his arms reflexively being brought up to protect his head from the smoke.
Boom!
Another explosion rocked the ground, but smaller. His foot was free but he didn’t feel safe yet.
Kaminari blinked his eyes open, peaking through his arms to see the beams blown away, Snipe all the way back down the hallway again, the window illuminating Snipe in a dark shadow, Bakugou standing beside him.
Bakugou standing next to him!
“I knew you wouldn’t leave me to die!”
Bakugou scoffed, rolling his eyes. “Yeah? And what was that look then? You were about to shit your pants.”
Kaminari grinned, waving his hands as he stood up. “Just for the theatrics!”
“Sure,” Bakugou mumbled, eyes trained on the teacher. His arms were still raised, probably ready to set off another explosion in the event the teacher shot them.
“Hm. I would have gotten you if it weren’t for your friend.” Kaminari grinned wider, giving Bakugou a thumbs up and a thanks at that. “Too bad.”
Snipe pulled out his other gun, returning to wielding the two guns when a different shadow lurched up from the window--
The remaining glass shattered as Sero leaped inside, tape pooling from his elbows as it shot out and wrapped Snipe up. The teacher grunted, his arms uselessly tied back but refusing to let go of the guns.
He flicked his wrists, angling them.
“SERO!”
Sero glanced down just in time to see the guns aimed at his feet, his eyes widening--
Ashido slid from behind the corner, her acid destroying the floor. She reached out a hand and slapped the gun away, shooting some acid to it for good measure.
Snipe still had the other gun though, and without hesitation he shot once, twice, thrice, at Sero, who jumped backwards in a flurry of movement his tape getting cut off.
Snipe used that moment to break himself free, the tape falling away.
He sensed Ashido’s kick before he saw it--ducked, stepped back once, and rammed his elbow out, catching her in the other leg.
She yelped, sliding into the wall, her last image of Snipe being him jumping out the window.
The four rushed to the window, seeing him land on the ground where Kirishima stood, hardened, but the man merely ran back inside the building, shooting bullets at their friend.
Kirishima made to follow, but saw them and stopped. “You guys okay?!” He called out.
“Yep!” Ashido yelled back.
“We didn’t get him buuut.” Kaminari held out an item--the cuffs--and beamed. “We got these! I think they fell off when you exploded him Baku!” Bakugou turned away, scoffing, but with less venom that normal. Below, Kirishima grinned, giving them a thumbs up as their watches beeped.
5 points for getting the cuffs of a teacher. Of course, it wasn’t the twenty they’d been hoping for, but it was better than nothing.
“We should start exploring the buildings better. I saw so many candy canes while we were running, but I didn’t have time to pick them all up,” Sero suggested as he created some tape to help them down.
They nodded when they reached the ground, a new fire burning in them after the fight as a result of the adrenaline.
It was early. They’d had a slow start but...
They were going to win this.
DECEMBER 1 | 11AM | 5 HOURS INTO THE HUNT
The bot’s arm came crashing down, it’s weight forcing Tokoyami to steady himself as Dark Shadow pushed it back up. It was the same bots they’d fought during the sports festival, but something told him that there had been upgrades made. And in the dome of USJ, there was a lot of light, so Dark Shadow was sufficiently weaker than usual.
But as Dark Shadow held the bot’s arm in place, Shouji leapt up, jumping onto the arm and pounding down onto the bot, sending it’s head flying off. It jerked around a bit, it’s other arm turning in an erratic circle, digging into the ground as it passed.
Shouji brought his arms down on the exposed wiring, ripping them out until the bot stopped moving.
He jumped back onto the ground as their point counter went up by one.
Kouda came running up to them, smiling and signing, though a bit shyly. “Good job guys!”
“It was nothing. The burden of my wrongdoings is heavier than any monster,” Tokoyami said quietly. Kouda smiled, nodding along.
“We should get moving to the Entrance before any more bots attack. I admit, I’m hungry. Now’s a better time than any to get going.” Shouji advised, looking around. They’d gained two points by taking out two bots but now the rest of their attention was being taken by Team Riot who were charging forward towards Central Plaza.
Tokoyami shook his head. “Are they taking on Aizawa-sensei now? Have they even eaten yet?”
“I don’t know, but while all the bots are distracted, we should go.”
They nodded and rushed forward, Dark Shadow and Shouji keeping an eye on their backs. They broke out of the trees, feet running on concrete once again.
They skidded to a stop, staring up at the looming robot.
A three-pointer bot from the entrance exam swiveled it’s head towards them, the lens swirling and zooming in.
Like before, it’s arm swung high, but this time the arm spun as it lifted and--
It froze, electricity sparking around. A laser beam cut through the middle and it broke apart in two, revealing the team behind.
“Hey, sorry for taking the kill.” Jirou smiled, her earlobes retracting. Aoyama had his arms wrapped around his middle, leaning against Yaoyorozu for support. The trio looked particularly beat up, dirt on their faces; Yaoyorozu’s and Aoyama’s cloak ripped.
Despite that, there was a gleam in their eyes; burning bright and strong.
Shouji nodded at them in acknowledgement. “Are you going to the Entrance too?”
“Yes. It’s already been several hours since we begun. I am feeling quite famished,” Yaoyorozu explained. Indeed, she looked pale, maybe even thinner than before, though they couldn’t be sure.
"Let’s go then.”
The two teams started up the stairs, a swift jog in case any robots decided to follow them up, though it was unlikely considering it would be harder for them to drive up stairs.
But then again, in the course of the part five hours, they’d learnt not to underestimate Yuuei.
Several times.
“We moved to the Conflagration zone to dry after we stayed in the Downpour for a few hours. Cementoss-sensei was there but we managed to evade him long enough.” Tokoyami looked to Kouda. “Kouda’s quirk is quite good for finding things--his insect friends told him the whereabouts of ‘strange objects’. It’s thanks to him that we found most of our items without running into Cementoss-sensei.”
Jirou turned to him. “That’s great Kouda! You’ve gotten over your fear!”
Kouda blushed, shaking his head and signing quickly. “Only a little bit!” He returned his teammate’s looks. “And you two did so much work too! Shouji-kun-you’re great at getting information! And Tokoyami-kun too!”
Shouji ducked his head, one of his arms creating a smile. Tokoyami and Shouji thanked him for the compliment.
“What about you three? Where did you come from?”
Yaoyorozu smiled weakly. “The mountains. It’s lucky we had Jirou-san otherwise we would never have dodged half the traps in there.”
“But even with me, we couldn’t get away from them all.” Jirou replied bitterly, clenching her jaw.
Yaoyorozu gave her an encouraging smile but it was Aoyama who said, “But you still did wonderfully Jirou-san! It is not your fault we were attacked by several Ectoplasms!” He huffed--the sound still encompassing some of Aoyama’s usual flare. “My hero suit has been ruined so terribly! It’s hard to keep up my sparkle!”
Jirou shook her head, her lip quirking up. “Yeah, that reminds me, how many Ectoplasms did you guys have to fight?”
Team Eclipse looked at each other.
“We fought four, but one of them might have been the same one,” Tokoyami answered. Team Sparkle nodded, grimacing. He noticed their looks and asked, “How many did you fight?”
“Seven,” Yaoyorozu replied immediately, resentfully.
“And they weren’t the same ones!” Aoyama added.
“At that point, I was wondering if he was just out to get us or something. I stabbed my earlobes into so many Ectoplasms I had to clean it off.” Jirou suppressed a shudder.
They slowed as they reached the top of the stairs, the smell of food making it to their hungry noses. More than a few stomachs rumbled, but no one mentioned it. As they stepped up, they were met by the sight of three Ectoplasm’s.
The stairs to the Entrance had two flights. They had only made it pass the first.
“If you want food, you will have to get past us.” The Ectoplasm in the middle spoke. Something about him told them that that was the real Ectoplasm. The way he spoke and kept unnaturally still. “Of course, you could always let yourself be eliminated.”
Both teams readied for a fight.
Jirou clicked her tongue, sick of the sight of that particular teacher.
“You really can’t give us a break, huh?”
DECEMBER 1 | 11AM | 5 HOURS INTO THE HUNT
“KAMINARI! NOW!”
Ashido stepped forward, onto Kirishima’s back--the boy using his quirk--and leapt into the air, willing herself to stay aloft as Kaminari readied himself and activated his quirk. She shot acid out of her feet to give herself a few precious moments more.
The ground sparked, electricity travelling into Ectoplasm and the three-pointer bot and Ectoplasm and--
No, not Aizawa-sensei.
“Sorry guys! He’s-he’s hard to control!” Sero gritted his teeth, digging his heels into the ground. Aizawa-sensei was currently in the air, using Sero as a way to swing him around. His torso was wrapped in the boy’s tape but his own capture tape was out and shooting straight for him--
Sero ducked, stepping a bit too close to the area where Kaminari’s electricity ranged and felt a striking zap go through his body. His teeth clattered together, and he tasted blood--crap, he’d bitten his tongue.
The zap was over just as quickly as it had begun, Kaminari feeling the aftereffects come on and deciding to stop before he truly went out of commission.
A few metres away, Bakugou stood blasting at advancing robots; three-pointer bots, a pain. He barely glanced at the rest of his team, trusting them to do good enough not to get cuffed.
Team Riot were currently in Central Plaza, having made an effort to go for the Golden Sack (worth forty points). They’d charged in, a semi-plan made to lure the Ectoplasm clones away using Sero’s tape so that Kaminari could zap them all in one go and make it easier for Ashido, Kirishima, and Bakugou to take on Aizawa-sensei.
But it had all gone wrong.
Though maybe it hadn’t gone wrong. Their plan had just been rushed and slightly loose.
Aizawa-sensei had been fast--faster than they imagined--and even though they’d timed it so that their homeroom teacher was on the other side of the fountain, where the Sack sat upon, he’d managed to swing himself over to them, landing in front and erasing their quirks.
They’d struggled evading their homeroom teacher--who knew almost all their strengths and weaknesses--and the three clones without their quirks, but through a series of running and ducking, they’d managed to split Aizawa-sensei’s focus, allowing some of them to get their quirks back.
Sero had been the first to get away, and he’d instantly shot out his tape to catch all the clones in one go. It had been a massive effort to pull them altogether but when done, he’d yelled at Kaminari to get ready.
Aizawa-sensei had heard that though, and he’d returned to erasing his quirk but the tape was already out.
Kirishima and Ashido instead used a few harsh, strong kicks to finish off one of the clones but then a bot had come up from behind Sero and they’d been forced to run, leaving the other two to escape.
It had been at that moment that Kirishima had come running to them, Bakugou leading Aizawa over to the other side as he made a run for the Sack--whether he knew he was helping by distracting Aizawa-sensei or he genuinely thought he could reach the sack, they didn’t know.
But it helped.
It had been the moment they’d needed.
Their quirks returned.
That brought them to the present.
The robot malfunctioned, it’s movements jerky and strange until it collapsed onto the ground. Ashido threw a wad of acid to the clones for good measure--they’d started to melt down but they could never be sure--and she rolled onto the ground.
Kaminari wobbled on his feet, a shaky smile on his face as he gave them--or he gave what he hoped was them--a thumbs up. It wasn’t them.
But Sero and Bakugou were still locked in battle.
“Oh c-come onnnnn--” Sero hissed, feeling his hold on Aizawa-sensei loosen and the teacher slipped free, using his own tape to swing down to safety.
A large blast shook the ground--Bakugou’s howitzer. It had sent all the bots away though and allowed him to focus back on their battle.
He snarled in joy as he beheld Aizawa-sensei’s falling form--falling in front of where he stood, their teacher’s back to him.
Without wasting time, Bakugou blasted himself off the ground, racing towards him fast fast fast--
Aizawa twisted in the air, kicking his legs around to meet eyes with his students behind his goggles. Bakugou’s explosions sputtered out, but he still had the momentum--
Aizawa sent out his capture tape to trap the boy’s arms.
It had worked--but Bakugou was still grinning.
Aizawa’s eyes widened--the Sack.
He looked down--the ground coming up fast--, and sure enough the rest of team Riot were speeding towards the fountain--Ashido especially fast with her acid. He used his quirk on her and she stumbled but continued, none of them bothering to look up.
He couldn’t help the twitching of his lips.
They all had that much trust in each other. A development, he supposed.
But their success wasn’t going to last.
Before he released Bakugou, he swung the boy to slam him onto the ground and rolled. Aizawa snapped up immediately, returning his capture tape to get it to catch Kirishima in the ankles--and the boy went falling.
Sero spared a glance.
“GO!” Kirishima yelled, yanking his foot away but ultimately letting himself get pulled backwards.
That left the other three.
Aizawa felt a headache start. Damn, this was troublesome.
Yanking Kirishima far enough, he sent his capture tape out past Sero and Kaminari--to Ashido, the closest.
He smirked.
It grabbed onto her legs, trapping them together as he pulled her back, making sure to give the tape an extra jerk to get her spiralling backwards, knocking into Sero and narrowly avoiding Kaminari.
Kaminari stumbled sideways. His head was still stinging and his stomach ached from the emptiness but--crap, now he was the only one left. Damnit Aizawa-sensei! You couldn’t have taken me out?! This pressure’s too much!
He gritted his teeth and pushed forward--ten metres, eight, five--
The Sack was blindingly bright--gold, too. Probably fake, but who knew with UA? And so close, so damn close--
He reached out, stepping into the moat around the fountain’s main section.
He barely registered the beep in time.
The fountain blew up.
Something wrapped around his waist and he was pulled backward, the pressure around his midsection too strong--too strong too strong he was going to puke up his empty stomach--
The heat seared his front, his face; he turned his head, his arms lifting uselessly to cover his face.
He was thrown backwards, landing near Kirishima, the redhead scrambling towards him.
His ears rung, but he could vaguely make out what he was saying.
“Are you okay? Kami--talk! You okay man?!”
Kaminari tried to nod.
A shadow passed over him and he was being lifted by strong arms--Bakugou. One arm slung over the explosive boy’s shoulder as he was dragged away.
He didn’t know where they were going, but they were going away--away from Central Plaza.
And the Sack.
The ringing subsided, only to be replaced by a different kind of sting.
He’d been so close.
And he’d ruined it.
“‘M sorry guys. Coul’n’t get it,” He mumbled, hazy.
He heard a scoff. “Tch. You got closer than any of us dunce-face. Don’t sell yourself fucking short.”
“Yeah Kami! That was amazing! You can’t blame yourself for not knowing they’d blow the whole thing up!” Ashido chirped from somewhere behind.
Kirishima appeared in his line of sight. “That was super manly dude!”
Silence.
“Hey Sero, say something.”
“What? I mean you guys all said it already!” A pause. “Okay! You did great Kami. Seriously. Rest up, we’re bringing you to food.”
At the mention of food, his mind focused a bit more, his vision narrowing. Yes, food, food food. Finally.
Though it still felt like forever until they made it, Kami’s feet hitting the stairs over and over until it finally stopped only to start up again--how many stairs did the USJ have? He couldn’t remember but surely it hadn’t been--
“You made it. You can relax now. You’re in neutral territory.” He was being moved somewhere else, laying on a soft surface. “Kaminari, if I heal you, you’ll feel tired. Are you okay to risk that?”
“Yeah yeah, just heal him already.”
“Hmph, patience Bakugou.”
SMOOOOCH!
Instantly, his body relaxed, sinking into the soft mattress. He felt better, but he did feel tired now.
Kaminari opened his eyes, meeting Kirishima’s eyes. He grinned at him, giving a thumbs up.
“So where’s the food?”
A packet of something both hard and soft landed on his chest.
“Here.”
Kaminari turned to look at Jirou, her eyes uncharacteristically narrowed. She was glaring at him furiously.
“What’d I do?” He asked, confused and slightly intimidated.
Yaoyorozu appeared next to her, putting a hand on Jirou’s shoulder. “Jirou-san, I don’t think it’s a good idea to glare so much.” Her eyes softened, but she still frowned.
“I can’t help it. We had to fight through three more Ectoplasms just to get up here and they could walk through free. Fantastic,” She said flatly, slumping on the ground.
“I guess being first isn’t always the best, huh,” Sero added unhelpfully, as he received another glare.
Kaminari looked around, finding the two other teams--Eclipse and Sparkle. Ashido laughing at Aoyama’s ripped cloak, the blond boy clearly trying not to pout. Sero talking to Shouji and Tokoyami. Kouda sitting against a wall, nibbling on an apple as Bakugou chomped on a banana next to him.
Though everyone was beaten up considerably, bruises and scratches that hadn’t healed, there was a spark in their eyes.
For once, they weren’t fearing for their lives. For once, they were having fun.
DECEMBER 1 | 11:10AM | 5 HOURS 10 MINUTES INTO THE HUNT
Recovery Girl smiled at the cameras, shaking her head. She could hear the students’ chatter from behind the door.
She watched as Aizawa reset the fountain, the Sack slung over his shoulder, bots roaming the area.
A softie through and through, she thought.
You could have cuffed and eliminated them all, Aizawa, before going to reset the fountain.
And yet you didn’t.
DECEMBER 1 | 1PM | 7 HOURS INTO THE HUNT
“Are you sure this is a good idea? Do you really think it’ll work?”
Hagakure nodded, taking off her boots. “Well, maybe not! But we have to try at least! If I can’t get past Aizawa-sensei, I won’t be able to get past villains in the future!”
Ojirou and Sato smiled hesitantly, nodding slightly. “It might be a bit different than that, Hagakure-san. Aizawa-sensei is a pro at stealth too.”
“Exactly!” She piped, ripping off her gloves. She shivered. Now the cold could really attack her. “If I can get past him, this’ll be a true show of my skills!”
Sato pointed at her watch. “Are you going to take that off?”
Hagakure looked at it, poking and prodding before relenting. “No. I don’t want to risk disqualification or something, but I’ll be careful.”
She peaked over the tree, staring at the new fountain. After it had blown up a few hours ago--it had been one huge explosion--something had opened up below and a new fountain had popped right up. The only sign that it had been blown up in the first place was the debris scattered around.
“There’s no more Ectoplasms too! This could work out great for us guys!”
Her teammates looked at each other, before resigning to the fact that she wouldn’t give up.
“Be careful out there.”
She nodded, grinning.
She waited until Aizawa was on the other side and ran forward, keeping low so that her floating watch wouldn’t be too visible.
The run was longer than she’d anticipated, and by the time she made it to the cut hedges bordering the fountain, she was panting. But she’d made it!
Aizawa was walking back over to this side. She could tell by the sounds of his footsteps.
Closer, closer, closer--he should be walking away by now--closer, closer--closer?!
Hagakure’s heart raced. Why was he coming closer? Had he seen her? She glanced at Ojirou and Sato--her heart dropped.
Their eyes were wide, even from a distance she could see that, and they waved frantically at her.
Someone was standing over her.
She looked up, a squeak leaving her lips as she stared into Present Mic’s eyes.
Was he always this scary?
“Told ya I’d come for you!” Present Mic opened his mouth. “SHOUUUUTAAAAAA!”
“What? There’s no need to shout,” Aizawa-sensei grumbled, coming over.
Hagakure scrambled away from the hedge, stumbling up as she spun to face the two teachers.
“So you thought you’d be able to sneak past huhhhh? Well, that’s too bad man!” Present Mic yelled, the second sentence in english. Hagakure swallowed, continuing to step back--dangit, why did she have to have a stupid watch? That gave her such a disadvantage!
Ojirou and Sato appeared at her sides in defensive stances.
“We should run. I don’t think we can take the both of them,” Sato murmured from the corner of his lips.
Still, the two teachers heard him.
“Really?” Aizawa-sensei muttered. “I would have hoped you three knew you were at an advantage.” They stilled. “Two of you have quirks I cannot erase. And the third is sufficiently trained in combat to put up a decent fight.”
Present Mic grinned. “And you know! You’re all pretty close! You could get to me before I shot your eardrums.”
Team Spirit looked at each other.
They came to a silent agreement.
Stepping back--
They ran.
“AW COME ON MAN!” Present Mic sighed, running a hand through his hair. “I was really looking forward to that you three! Yeee-AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!”
The trio winced--they hadn’t gone too far yet and the effects of Present Mic’s quirk could be heard all over USJ. It was a piercing as they remembered from a few hours ago.
Aizawa elbowed him.
“OW! Man that hurt!”
“You’re hurting my ears.” He clicked his tongue, turning away.
Team Spirit made it back to the trees, running past for good measure. They slowed, stopping and resting on the grass.
“He thought we’d forget about the capture tape or cuffs? I feel underestimated,” Sato huffed out.
The other two smiled wryly.
“Though without those two things, we really would be at an advantage,” Ojirou said, straightening.
“I’m not taking any chances! We’ve only got five more hours to go! We can do it!” Hagakure cheered, still out of breath.
“Yeah. Just a few more hours to go.” Sato looked at Ojirou, smiling. “Plus ultra, yeah?”
They nodded.
DECEMBER 1 | 2PM | 8 HOURS INTO THE HUNT
Kouda waited until the ant had finished speaking before standing to tell his teammates. He also couldn’t believe it, but then again, he really should be able to. It wasn’t something out of reach for UA.
“What is it, Kouda?” Shouji asked.
“There’s some in the dome. Wedged between the glass and taped to it. They’re saying it’s the same thing as our candy canes.” He looked at Tokoyami. “Can you..?”
Tokoyami nodded, Dark Shadow already wrapping over his body. “I’ll do my best.”
He flew into the air, climbing higher and higher--the ground lower and lower. It would have been dizzying and despite his training with his special move, the day’s events wore down on him. Eight hours, one meal, and no sleep since the beginning--he didn’t want to think about his bed.
From in the air, Tokoyami could see much of USJ. The mountains zone had been half-destroyed, smoke piling up high; the waterslide in the Flood zone had collapsed; bots roamed the grounds, looking for students to attack. From that height, Tokoyami felt untouchable from the threats of below.
“Dark Shadow--keep an eye out too!” The beast nodded, and they swerved close to the glass--though he couldn’t see out of it anyway, snow covered the outside from view. They’d been walking behind the Flood zone, keeping to the edges of the dome to get easy candy canes and baubles. It had been a fruitful excursion and they’d barely run into anyone--friend or foe.
Tokoyami scanned the dome with his eyes. Nothing yet, but he trusted Kouda and Kouda trusted those ants.
Dark Shadow flew them closer, almost skimming against the dome.
There! A bauble, black to blend into the beams, hanging.
“Do you see it, Dark Shadow?”
“Yeah! Grab and go!”
Tokoyami reached out his hand--his fingers grazed the bauble--he latched onto it, ripping it free.
“Good, we got--”
Electricity sparked through his body and Tokoyami hissed--what the--?
A second set of shocks rippled through him and he looked closer at the bauble, eyes narrowing at the circular object stuck to it’s skin.
“What is it? A taser or something?”
“Something like that.” With a grunt, Tokoyami scratched the device off, letting it fall to the ground. “I should have realised there’d be traps. Even up here, they’re not going to go easy on us.” Though if the rest are just like this one, we won’t be able to tell there’s traps til it’s set off. Tokoyami thought bitterly.
He shook his head. It’d be fine if they were just zaps.
He checked his watch--their point counter at forty-eight now. The bauble had been worth four points.
“Tokoyami! Is that an item?” Dark Shadow asked, and Tokoyami looked up to see a pair of red glasses attached onto the side of a beam. Midnight’s glasses--worth seven points. He smiled.
“Yes. Good spotting Dark Shadow.”
They repeated their routine, though more carefully now.
And yet it still did not prepare them for the burst of pink gas.
No--Midnight’s gas!
As Tokoyami had pulled the glasses away, it had triggered the trap--releasing a shocking amount of Midnight’s gas. Somehow they’d stored it up here.
Dark Shadow dropped to escape it, but then something shot out of the glasses and latched onto Tokoyami’s hands. He felt a pull and his arm went up, towards the beam where it was slowly but surely being encompassed in the gas.
“Tokoyami! What is it?”
“Some-something is pulling me back up! It’s strong,” Tokoyami gritted out, clenching his jaw. He shook his hand, but the rod-like things on the glasses were unyielding. “Keep going Dark Shadow!”
Dark Shadow charged down, leaning more to the left as a result of the force of whatever was pulling Tokoyami’s right hand. He tried to pull his hand down, make it easier for his shadow beast to fly.
They were hurtling as fast as they could go, but still it pulled them back--
The pressure released, sending Tokoyami’s hand shooting forward and then his whole body, the same feeling when someone would step on the brakes--
“DARK SHADOW!”
They were nearing the ground faster than he knew they could control--no, nearing the Conflagration zone’s dome. Somewhere in the back of his mind, he swore he heard Shouji yell over the sound of the wind rushing past.
“Tokoyami! Duck!”
He ducked his head deeper into Dark Shadow’s arms, gritting his teeth as the inevitable impact arrived--
CLANG!
They collided with the dome, Tokoyami thankfully safe from most of the impact, though his head still rattled, but Dark Shadow absorbed the most of it.
Dark Shadow gripped a beam to prevent them from sliding off, then slowly went back, using the beams like a fireman’s pole as they slid towards the ground.
Shouji and Kouda ran to meet up with them.
“Are you alright Tokoyami-kun?”
He nodded, standing up, refusing to let his wobble be shown. “Yes. That gas...” They looked up at the still-spreading pink gas. “It surprised us. And then there’s this.” He lifted up his right hand, the glasses still attached to it.
“What is that?” Kouda asked, shyly stepping forward to peer at it. Now that he could see it better, it resembled something of legs. Or arms.
“I don’t know. But it latched onto me and kept pulling me up. Something was pulling it towards the gas.”
“Magnets?” Shouji supplied. Tokoyami nodded. That was probably it.
“Thank you Tokoyami-kun! You got us eleven more points even with those traps!” Kouda beamed, smiling. Tokoyami blinked, lowering his eyes. Yes, he supposed he had, even after all that.
“I can go back to searching up there after a few minutes rest. There’s clearly more to find up there.”
They nodded, looking up. The gas was was a reminder to be more careful, but Tokoyami wasn’t going to let his team down.
He’d fly up there and get them all the points.
DECEMBER 1 | 3:30PM | 9 HOURS 30 MINUTES INTO THE HUNT
Exhaustion battered them down.
Midnight had been out for blood. Wherever they went, she followed. They’d moved from the landslides to the mountains to the stairs--and still she’d followed!
Now team Tree was in the Conflagration zone. With Todoroki’s quirk, they assumed they would have an advantage in there, but the flames raged on around them--and sweating buckets did not help. They’d dressed for the cold; their extra layers of clothing becoming an enemy.
“Should...should we just leave?” Uraraka asked weakly, pulling at the collar of her suit uselessly. “It’s really...really hard to see anything in here.”
Midoriya pursed his lips, thinking. They’d been in here for half an hour and they’d found enough items to make it seem like no one else had gone through this zone--too hot or too dangerous?
He didn’t want to give up, but looking at his team, some of them were looking bad: Iida, in his elaborate hero suit, moved with less energy than usual. Asui was sweating, her eyelids drooping, and he himself felt groggy and sticky with sweat. Todoroki was the only one who looked decent, and even that much was a stretch, when he kept ocnstantly freezing his left side.
They’d already stacked up to seventy-four points. That was probably good, right? Yes, there was no need to push everyone to their limits, especially since they’d gone deep inside the zone now they’d need to take a while to get back out.
“Yeah, that’s a go--”
The pillar of concrete came out of nowhere.
Well, not nowhere, but the ground.
It brushed right up against Todoroki--the one who’d been leading--and a second on on their left started growing.
“It’s Cementoss!” Iida called, grabbing Uraraka and Midoriya and running to the right with them.
Asui leapt sideways, her tongue already half out when Todoroki used his ice to destroy the left wall and propel himself to the right.
They regrouped against a burning building, Todoroki freezing over the section nearest to make it safe.
“So it was you after all,” A deep voice rumbled out. They tensed, for once the searing heat replaced by a deep focus. The flames made it hard to find Cementoss, but the sound had come somewhere from ahead. “Only one other team made it in and out of this zone. They lasted fifteen minutes. I’ll try to make this quick.”
Concrete spiked up from the ground, heading straight for them--they had to split--
Midoriya and Iida leapt to the right, Uraraka, Todoroki, and Asui going left.
The concrete smashed into the frozen building, the ice shards shattering and falling upon them.
Todoroki gritted his teeth, activating his right and sending ice shooting in the general direction the concrete came from. He heard a shatter, and clicked his tongue--Cementoss must have shielded himself.
Uraraka tapped his shoulder. “We should go--he can obviously see us--” The ground wobbled underneath them and it was only with the help of Asui did they get pulled back in time before concrete shot up, right where they’d been standing.
“I don’t think we can win without risking too much, kero,” Asui said as they ran around the building. The flames leaped out at them but Todoroki iced the path as he led the way, pushing through.
Uraraka nodded. “Yeah. He must have something--maybe some sort of heat vision goggles to see us?”
“Whatever it is, we’re at a clear disadvantage,” Todoroki grunted. Damnit--and he’d been so confident in his ice quirk too!
They ran around, the building longer than they’d realised.
Uraraka glanced to the sides, watching as Todoroki iced the ground and walls for them--
Her eyes widened. She slid to a stop, stumbling uncouthly as she stared through the ice to what was inside.
A star--or, it looked like a star.
She racked her memory for what she remembered it from, squinting and scrunching up her face--what was it what was it?
“Uraraka-chan!” Asui hopped back to her side. “What is it?”
She pointed at the star. That’s it! “The star for-for the christmas tree! It’s worth like-ten points guys!”
Todoroki slid back over to them, eyeing it.
Uraraka turned to him, eyes eager. “Can you get it, Todoroki-kun?”
He nodded. “Keep an eye out for Cementoss, though.” He put his left hand onto the ice and melting it away as fast as he dared--he didn’t want to risk damaging the star, and thus losing the points.
The ice melted quick, and when he broke through a violent burst of flames escaped.
He stepped back with his right, letting his left take the heat. Uraraka and Asui stepped back, the flames large enough to melt the rest of the ice, making way for more fire to be generated by however way the school did it.
“Todoroki-kun! Are you okay?” Uraraka called.
He clenched his jaw and nodded. “I’ll take it out--be ready to run if it’s a trap.”
Uraraka and Asui stepped away, but not before Asui wrapped her tongue around Todoroki’s midsection. The heat stung, but in the event it was a trap, she wasn’t going to leave him to it’s mercy.
Todoroki touched the hot metal--his teeth were going to break with how hard he was gritting them--and found the pointed section, running his finger down until he could get a better grip. Bracing himself, he yanked it out--
Asui threw him backwards, the explosion shattering the rest of the ice until he created more to stifle it. Still, the ice cracked at the force.
Uraraka gasped--Cementoss!
“Run!”
They ran, pushing past the flames now that Todoroki was still being pulled by Asui.
The end of the alley approached, a wired gate separating them from Midoriya and Iida, the former ripping it open--
The ground shook--they refused to stumble--
It wasn’t wide enough for them to leap through--not yet not yet--
Midoriya activated One for All, using what was probably more strength than necessary to rip the rest of it open--the whole fence crashed down, but on their side.
“URARAKA!” Iida yelled, hand outstretched--and she understood.
Reaching backwards, she clapped hands with Asui who held out hers--the girl went weightless, still clutching Todoroki--and Uraraka ran forward, stretching to reach Iida--
In the end, the concrete bursting behind them was what gave them the speed to reach him.
They flew forward, Todoroki slamming into Uraraka’s back as she whipped her hand out and used her quirk on him too.
Bracing herself, she used it on Midoriya and her too, the nausea growing.
But now Iida could run.
They all gripped onto him, whether it was an arm or his torso--
He crouched, activating Recipro Burst and--
Zoom!
Rushing past the flames, Iida maneuvered carefully, knowing he had limited time to get them all out of there--ignoring the flames that reached for their bodies--far, far--
They made it a considerable distance before his Burst ended and he stumbled to a stop.
Uraraka released her quirk’s effect, and they all collapsed onto the grround, adrenaline pumping through their veins at the wild ride.
“We should...go...before he catches up...” Iida panted out, staring at his engines.
Midoriya grinned at him. “Do you really think he’ll be able to catch up with your Recipro Burst?”
Iida looked up at him, a proud smile growing. “Perhaps not,” He admitted. “But we need to make sure.”
“Well it’s a good thing we’re near the exit then,” Asui croaked out, looking in front.
They turned, the doors to leave the zone right in front.
“And our points too!” Uraraka piped up suddenly. “You did it Todoroki-kun! We’ve got eighty-four points now! That’s so much!” She threw her arms in the air, exhilarated, and threw an arm around the boy, who stiffened.
“So that’s what got the points?” Midoriya asked, pointing to the star still in his hand.
He nodded. “But it was Uraraka who found it. If it weren’t for your quick seeing, we would have missed it.” He looked down, clenching his right hand. “I was too focused on icing the area I didn’t think about the items we could have found.”
Uraraka shook her hands dismissively. “Don’t worry about that Todoroki-kun! We got the points so that’s good...” She trailed off as the ground shook again.
They all glanced at each other, standing.
“We should go...” Midoriya began nervously.
“Before Cementoss does catch up, kero,” Asui finished.
They all nodded, making their way to the exit.
When the cooler air of the outside hit them, they couldn’t help but sigh.
Sure it was cold, but it was much better than the searing heat of those flames.
They looked up.
And froze.
DECEMBER 1 | 4PM | 10 HOURS INTO THE HUNT
Toshinori hated that smile of Nedzu’s. It’s the smile that told him the principal was planning something.
Something that probably wasn’t going to be good.
Nedzu completely ignored him, too deep in thought.
It had been hard work getting all the puzzle pieces into place. His students were unpredictable, but it was the teacher’s who’d nearly messed it up. Especially Midnight and Present Mic--he’d have to talk to them about holding grudges with their naive first years.
But finally everyone had been gathered onto the grounds.
And by the looks of their confused faces, none of them knew what was coming.
Nedzu lifted his tea cup and took a sip.
He put a paw on the button.
And with another, darker smile, he pressed it.
Toshinori couldn’t help but wish his students good luck with all his heart.
DECEMBER 1 | 4PM | 10 HOURS INTO THE HUNT
The fountain split into four, the Central Plaza opening up to pull it in. The ground as class 1A tried to figure out what was going on--were they still doing the Hunt? What was this part all about?
The Golden Sack was the first thing that came back out.
And then a giant Ectoplasm followed suit, the Sack perched on his head.
(Yaoyorozu put a hand on Jirou’s shoulder to stop her from screaming. She was sick sick sick of that teacher!)
He loomed above them all, casting a menacing shadow. Once his upper body was out, the teachers seemed to follow, rising from the ground.
(Midnight smirked darkly at Team Tree; the five getting chills up their spine. She still hadn’t given up.)
(Hagakure subtly stepped behind Sato, hiding herself from Present Mic--despite the fact that she was the best hidden in the first place.)
As the ground closed up again, around Ectoplasm’s giant clone, snow poured out, filling the area around and piling around the teachers.
“Well well class one A,” Nedzu’s voice spoke all around them. “You’ve all managed to last until the final hours of our Hunt! Impressive! It’s been rarely done.”
“Hmph.” A distance mumble huffed somewhere. “If someone hadn’t been so stupid they would have eliminated some of them.”
(Midnight and Present Mic’s smirks twitched--the elderly lady was not getting over their earlier mishaps anytime soon, it seemed.)
“Yes yes. But in the end, class one a made it. It’s been so long since I decided to do this!” Nedzu laughed giddily, the sound chilling. “Now, you might want to take cover.”
“You won’t warn them hm? Of course you wouldn’t.”
“Where would be the fun in that?”
The sound of screeching and creaking pierced their ears and as one, the class looked up to see the glass receding and--
Snow fell.
And not the soft, beautiful snowflakes.
It fell in harsh, loud thumps.
(Tokoyami called on Dark Shadow to shield team Eclipse as the snow weighed on them.)
(Kirishima pulled Bakugou back, under the cover of trees, in an effort to stop the boy’s obvious desire to Howitzer impact the snow.)
When the snow finally made it all down, the class emerged from their covers.
It was thicker than they’d have thought, piling up as high as their shins in some areas. But it was uneven too; the domes of the Conflagration and Downpour areas taking up a large chunk of it.
Nedzu returned to the intercom. “So! It should be rather obvious now, I’ve left so many clues, but...” A low chuckle. “It’s a snowball fight!”
Simultaneously, they froze in surprise.
A what?
“I’m sure you all know what a snowball fight is. But…” A pause that shouldn’t have been as menacing as it was. “You don’t know what a plus ultra snowball fight is.
“If you want the sack, you’ll have to get past all of the snowballs and your teachers. But I warn you…” Nedzu pitched his voice higher in excitement. “If you get hit, you’re out! You can’t make any more attempts on the Sack nor can you help your teammates!”
Nedzu giggled--this was so fun! “One more thing. If any one of you gets the sack, you will win. Even the lowest scoring group can win with the Sack now. Any one of you could win the sixteen thousand yen cheque.”
(Uraraka’s eyes flamed. The amount of food she could buy with that!)
Nedzu put his paw on another button. “Good luck everyone!”
DECEMBER 1 | 4PM | 10 HOURS INTO THE HUNT
This time, class 1A was not facing the imminent, stressful threat of death.
This time, they were merely children once more, teaming up against the silly but real threat of snowballs.
Some of them smirked, grinned, smiled; others ducked their heads, and dug in their feet, tensing their muscles.
They were teenagers. And they were heroes-in-training.
They were going to defeat these snowballs, even if it meant using their stupidly powerful quirks for something as trivial as a snowball fight.
Plus Ultra, after all.
Concrete 3/3 (BNHA/MHA Kacchako)
Concrete 1 Concrete 2
Read on AO3
It reminded her of floating.
She would know.
Her body felt fuzzy and weightless. The sensation had once made her dizzy and nauseous, but with practice and understanding she’d quickly found herself used to the feeling of it.
Uraraka had a feeling that she’d never get used to this.
Though feeling hadn’t returned to her body, neon dots burst brightly behind her closed eyes and beeping filled her ears. Slow, steady, and accompanied by the soft hum of electricity.
If she had to guess, Uraraka would bet she was in the hospital.
In the handful of times she’d been sent to Recovery Girl’s office, she’d never been hooked up to a monitor. She’d woken up on the way to the med room after she fainted during her match with Bakugo at Sports Festival their first year. Aside from normal bumps, bruises, and broken bones, Uraraka could only think of one other time she’d sustained a serious injury.
She’d taken a knee to the head while sparring and was unconscious for a few hours.
Uraraka couldn’t quite remember what had happened this time, but…
“Any change?”
Who was that?
To her right, the shifting of stiff fabric scratched against her eardrums. “No.” There was a heavy sigh followed by partially muffled words, “They said she’d be awake by now.” Bakugo? How long had she been unconscious? “What are you doing here anyway?”
“I’m off duty until Sunday morning.” Boots clicked across the floor moving closer to her. “Figured I would check in on you guys since Iida had to go back.”
Okay, so it wasn’t Iida. She would say it was Deku, but it didn’t quite sound like him. Kirishima had mentioned something about being on duty, so she had to assume something had happened. Knowing Deku, he wouldn’t stop working until he couldn’t move.
Whatever incident it was, Uraraka had to believe it was the cause of her injuries.
She was okay.
Even if she couldn’t feel her limbs yet.
She heard Bakugo huff as he moved again, “I don’t need a babysitter.”
“Just making sure, man.” Kirishima. She should have known.
“Hey man,” she could hear the smirk on his face. “Someone needs to make sure you’re eating-”
The sound of paper crinkling and a whiff of something salty filled her nose. Smelled like teriyaki?
“And that you haven’t been arrested.”
If that statement didn’t wake her up, Uraraka wasn’t sure she’d ever regain consciousness.
The last thing she remembered was Bakugo scowling as she shoved pink and white frosted cookies in her mouth. He’d grumbled something about her “shitty eating habits” when he stole a cookie from her, refusing to admit how good the cookies were.
What exactly had happened to her…? Where did they go after breakfast? And how had her boyfriend nearly ended up in jail?
“Well-“ Why did Bakugo sound so tired? His voice was raspy and weak, not evening trying to but his normal amount of bite in his voice. “I’ve managed to stay out of trouble for the last day and a half.”
What day was it? Kirishima mentioned something about going back on duty Sunday, but she couldn’t remember what day she’d been rendered unconscious.
“I’m just making sure that you don’t punch anyone else out.” Had there been a fight? Had she gone out on patrol with him and gotten injured? Uraraka couldn’t recall being scheduled for a patrol or being teamed with Bakugo. As weird as it was, teachers at UA were aware of their relationship and made sure not to partner them up for patrol or projects.
There may have been one instance when he’d been assigned to be her partner randomly, but teachers had been sure to split them up for patrol practicals.
Kirishima’s voice was light as it faded toward the other side of the room. “You need to eat. Iida told me you didn’t eat last night-“
“I’m not hungry.“
“Kaminari told me you skipped lunch yesterday-“
“Not true. The nurse brought me a coffee and cookie-” A small part of her hoped that she could remember this conversation when she finally awakened. Bakugo had always been critical of making sure that she was eating regularly, especially with her training regimen.
“Mina told me you didn’t eat anything this morning-” It sounded like he was standing in front of Bakugo. “And I am not above telling Uraraka. She’s gonna be pissed.”
He wasn’t wrong. Uraraka was sure if she could move her body she’d sit up and knock some sense into her boyfriend. Warmth was finally beginning to tingle in toes and fingers, but her body felt like lead.
“She has to wake up first.” She’d witnessed her boyfriend fight against impossible odds without batting an eyelash at the odds. Why did he sound so hopeless? His soft sinking tone sent a jolt of fear down her spine as she heard the heart monitor play her nerves.
How bad was she hurt?
“Katsuki-” Kirishima resorting to calling him by his first name without Bakugo’s protest only confirmed the seriousness of this situation. “The doctor said that Uraraka’s surgery went better than they could have asked for. Brain scans are good-”
“She has a brain bleed-”
“Minor, non-surgical-” Personally, Uraraka would never think to associate the term brain bleed and minor, but if the doctor wasn’t concerned she could relax a bit.
“Her hair was soaked with blood and dust when I found her.” A head injury and the sedatives would explain her lack of memory. “I should have gotten her to a medic immediately when I-”
“Stop.” Kirishima’s voice was firm.
Uraraka could feel the pull of stitches against her side and at her scalp as she focused on trying to move.
“I should’ve noticed that she had a concussion.”
“Ka-”
“Like I should have seen that fucking gash in her side.” Had she been stabbed in an ambush?
“Don’t do this to yourself,” Kirishima sighed. “You’re going to have to forgive yourself eventually.”
“When she wakes up,” Bakugo insisted, stubbornly.
The sound of plastic and styrofoam rattling sounded louder in her ears.
“If you don’t eat something, you’re going to be in a bed next to her.” Kirishima’s hand came down lightly on something solid. She imagined there was a little table in her hospital room. “Eat the damn noodles and stop thinking about worst case scenarios. The doctor said she’s doing good.”
The black behind her closed eyes become lighter as she felt awareness returning to her body.
“Eat or I tell your mother.”
“You’ll be back on duty when she comes to the hospital.” Uraraka couldn’t ignore the small smirk in his voice.
“Actually,” Kirishima started with a smirk of his own. “She said she’ll be here this evening with dinner, so I can join you all.”
“Tch.” It was nice to hear the tension ease out of his voice.
Her eyelids painfully peeled apart, the fluorescent light above her head burning her eyes.
“I can’t believe you have my mother’s number.”
Kirishima laughed, pulling a chair of his own next to him, “How are you surprised?”
Uraraka would’ve laughed if her throat hadn’t felt like it was full of sandpaper and cactus needles. With a little inhale and eyes barely open, she watched as Kirishima unboxed the food and placed a covered bowl in front of Bakugo.
“Fair enough,” Bakugo sighed, leaning back in his hair as he shook his head. The skin around his eyes was dark and drawn tight.
When was the last time he’d slept?
He was dressed what looked to be a wrinkled pair of navy hospital scrubs, hair more unruly than usual.
“Stop pouting,” Kirishima said, holding a pair of chopsticks out in front of the blonde. “Eat your noodles.”
Uraraka licked her lips as the corners of her lips twitched with amusement. She inhaled deeply, opening her mouth. “Yeah-” That small word tearing at her throat. “Eat your noodles,” she rasped breathlessly, words slurred together.
Bakugo gasped, lurching forward as he pushed the small table out of the way. He jumped to her beside carefully cradling her head as he looked into her hazy eyes. “You’re awake?”
“Suppose so,” Uraraka breathed softly as she smiled at him.
His hands trembled as cool relief washed over him, hands gently pushing her hair back. “Shit,” Bakugo panicked. “We need a doctor!” He roared, turning toward the door.
“Ow,” Uraraka winced as her head throbbed.
“Shit,” he muttered, gingerly patting her face as he pressed a kiss to her forehead. “Sorry, sorry, sorry…”
“I’ll go get a doctor,” Kirishima offered as he made his way out of the room.
The doctors swarmed her bedside and pushed him into the hallway. Bakugo had quickly called Uraraka father, then followed up with his own mother.
“Katsuki!”
“She’s awake.” Bakugo peeked back into Uraraka’s hospital room making sure what his eyes and ears had seen were real. Red eyes glanced at Kirishima, confirming his witness was still there.
They’d carefully propped Uraraka up against the fluffy hospital pillows. Her usually bright brown eyes were hazy, but she was awake and responding to whatever questions they asked her.
“Thank goodness,” his mother breathed with relief. “What’d the doctor say?”
“I don’t know yet,” Bakugo look another look into the room. “But, I figure she still has a couple days here.”
“Did you still want me to come by tonight?”
“I guess,” he shrugged, phone clutched against his ear. “Ochako probably won’t mind the visit.”
“Well, if she’s too tired,” Mitsuki started sternly. “I can just bring you kids some food tomorrow.”
“Yeah.”
“You called her father, right?”
“I talked to him before I called you.” he peeked back into the room again. They were removing the blood pressure from her arm. Her eyes were still open, drowsy but alert.
“Good. Don’t forget to keep me posted.”
“I won’t.”
“You take care of her, Katsuki.”
“I am, mom.”
“You must have been worried if you called your mother,” Kirishima commented, a little smirk on his face as he watched his friend hang up the phone. He bit his tongue, forcing himself not to comment on how normal their conversation was.
Bakugo narrowed his eyes, placing his phone in his pants pocket, “Shut up, shitty hair.”
“Will do,” Kirishima smirked with a satisfied nod as he leaned against the wall across from his friend. “I’m glad Uraraka’s okay too.”
Bakugo nodded, shoving his hands in his pockets. He sighed loudly, looking up to the ceiling as he frowned awkwardly, “I owe you.” The words weren’t quite right to express how good of a friend he’d been to him, but Bakugo wasn’t quite sure how to say it.
“No, ” Kirishima patted his shoulder before stretching his back. “That’s what bros do, man.” He understood.
The doctor exited the room, stepping in front of Bakugo with a smile. “She looks great.”
Bakugo felt his body relax on a loud and long exhale.
“We’re still keeping an eye on that head injury, but hopefully on Monday we can have the specialist come and heal her. And,” the doctor flipped through the chart. “If everything goes according to plan, she should be able to go home on Tuesday. Do you have any questions for me?”
“No, sir.”
“Alright,” the doctor nodded. “I suggest you get some rest yourself now, hmm?” He suggested as he stepped away.
Bakugo ignored the glare and Kirishima’s chuckling. “Don’t you start.”
“What?” Kirishima raised his hands in surrender, unable to contain his grin. He pushed himself off the wall as he started down the hall. “I can’t agree that you need to get some rest?”
“No,” Bakugo frowned watching him walk away. “Where you going?”
“Figured you crazy kids could use some alone time.” Kirishima gave a small salute as he kept moving. “I’ll let the others know.”
Bakugo had forgotten about telling their friends. Kirishima hadn’t even disappeared down the hall, and he was already standing in the doorway. With slow breaths, Bakugo kept his eyes on her sleepy face as she watched the TV mounted in the corner of the wall.
The footage of the building dominated the screen.
Rubble and concrete slabs filled the screen as a reporter recounted the accident.
No villains.
No bombs.
Just a minor earthquake and an unstable building causing the death toll to approach two hundred.
Bakugo couldn’t help but think that it had could have easily been two hundred and one.
“Did I fall?” Uraraka whispered, eyes glued to the screen.
He took slow steps into the room as he cleared his throat. “No,” he replied softly stepped into the room. “You um,” he stopped at the foot of her bed, gently placing his hands on her blanket covered ankles. “You, I think-”
Uraraka slowly turned to face him, eyes widening a bit with worry.
“You and Deku-” Bakugo still hadn’t decided how much of the blame the green haired boy needed to shoulder. “Were helping to evacuate people inside, and when Deku came out-”
He wondered if she could hear how loudly his heart thudded.
“You weren’t with him. I,” he paused, looking at her. “I found you with a kid. You had blood in your hair-”
Uraraka inhaled sharply, trying to recall what he was saying.
“When I took the kid, you collapsed.” Bakugo’s gaze left her eyes as he stared past her. “You had some metal lodged in your side, and you were bleeding really bad.”
That explained the long row of stitches on her side. “Is,” Uraraka cleared her throat. “The kid okay?”
Bakugo nodded, “Yeah, he’s fine. They found his mom.”
She felt herself relax into the bed a bit, ignoring the burn in her body. “Good,” she sighed with a small smile. Her eyes drifted close as she breathed slowly.
“You know I love you right?”
Uraraka felt her head snap up faster than she should’ve. Her jaw clenched, feeling her head throb. “What?”
“You-” He wanted to blame this on the stress of the last few days. “You know I love you right?”
“Of course.” Why would he doubt that?
His hands tightened a little around her ankles. “I thought you were going to die.”
Uraraka felt her breath catch as she saw tears catch on his eyelashes. “I’m sor-”
“You don’t get to die on me, Ochako.” Bakugo’s head dropped between his shoulders as he panted. “You don’t get to bleed out on me, say ‘I love you’, and die in my arms.”
“I-” She wasn’t sure what to say to him. Even without the morphine flooding her veins, the right words seemed impossible to find.
“The last thing I told you was you could have as many those stupid frosted animal cookies you wanted.” His eyes squeezed tightly trying to will away his tears. This was supposed to be a happy moment, and he couldn’t erase the memory of the life fading from her eyes.
Uraraka chuckled, tears spilling on her cheeks, “Come here.”
Bakugo’s head slowly raised, red eyes tired and grief filled.
“Come here.” Her hands padded against the bed, motioning for him to get in.
“I can’t-”
“It’s not like we haven’t shared a bed before.”
True, but- “I don’t wanna hurt you.” The bed was small, and it wouldn’t be comfortable for her to lay on her side.
“Get over here, Katsuki.”
Bakugo smirked carefully crawling into the small bed with her. He pulled her against his chest as her toes tickled against his ankle. Cradling a gentle hand against her scalp, he placed a kiss to the crown of her head.
“Of course you love me,” she whispered, digging her fingers into the fabric of his shirt. “You said I could have as many of those cookies you hate.” A smile broke through her tears.
“Dork,” he murmured affectionately against her forehead. “Don’t scare me like that again.”
She tilted her head up, meeting his eyes. “I won’t,” Uraraka promised softly.
“You need some rest,” Bakugo whispered pressing their lips together. Pulling away, his hands gently held her face as his thumbs stroked her pale cheeks.
“So do you.” Snuggling against his chest, Uraraka closed her eyes relaxing into him.
A nap sounded nice. “My mom is gonna come see you this evening.” His arms carefully looped around her as he held her.
“You called her?”
“Yeah,” he sighed sleepily, finally able to relax.
“Hm,” she chuckled lightly as she felt herself drifting back to sleep. “You do love me,” she teased.
“Don’t you forget it.”
