I remember this poem being used in a couple artworks and gifs in some other fandoms a year ago. I've actually wanted to make this gifset for a while, but I genuinely didn't think they had enough screentime to make it properly. I considered making this about all the mentors towards Felix, but honestly, I think simplicity is best since finding suitable footage of other mentors would probably make this more challenging.

Apologies for the bad contrast with the type and it's background at times. As a member of the bad eyes club, I tried my best, but Felix's corpse was fighting me.

so i went back & read issue 37 while listening to “drunk walk home” by mitski (both the original and the live at palisades version), timing my reading with the listening so that certain panels & passages would line up with the right points in the song, and dear. fucking. LORD. i wanna make a rainhaze pmv with this so badly. the only question is which version of the song to use

so the best way i can explain it:

*drumbeat intro* - the title page

“i will retire to the salton sea/at the age of 23” - that comic panel at the beginning showing how much he changed

“for i’ve started to learn i may never be free/but though I may never be free/fuck you and your money/i’m tired of your money” - idk exactly how it’d line up with the issue but something something him being influenced by defiance & ranger, something something “you can love someone and still hate/hurt them”

*guitar picks up* - the canine realization and/or slug’s reaction to the murder reveal. some combination of the two.

“and i sit on the curb ‘cause it’s the prettiest night/with no one else in sight/don’t you know i wore this dress for you/these killer heels for you” - rain gets all defensive & tries to justify the murder with the sleep thing & the hypocrisy

“see the dark, it moves/with every breath of the breeze” (+ the buildup before the guitar solo) - “convince them…okay”

*guitar solo* - slug attacks him, big fight scene

and of course the screaming at the end correlates to him screaming as he’s gutted like a baked potato

As a Johnny Cash enjoyer I must say I do prefer his cover but of course I love Nine Inch Nails too. More dark and gritty does fit Rainhaze better.

I've never actually listened to or seen Repo, but it does seem like something that would be up my alley. It does fit him too, driving in what he's done and forcing him to remember killing Asphodelpaw.

It's Hoshikuzu Telepath day (for me and my watch buddy anyway)! So here are my thoughts on EP6!

Matataki is so funny. And I'm saying this as gently as possible because I adore her, and on some level I can very much understand the way in which she approaches and reacts to social situations. Especially when it comes to rockets (and I assume on a meta level also close contact with other girls because let's face it, she's very aware of how some situations look extremely like romantic romantic closeness. I'm not going to write an essay on that one though. Yet.) and getting praised for her skills and knowledge.

And yes, we did laugh out loud in the chat when she very much avoided the "indirect kiss". (Honestly, I love Matataki so much! Someone do a live slug reaction of her face when Umika and Yu do their forehead thing!*)

I did not expect for the girls to meet Kei again, honestly, but that was such a fun meeting! And I very neat way to set up specific goals for the hobby club. The whole scene where the girls starting building their little rockets before, and where Matataki did lots of explaining and math reminded me of Yuru Camp - which is great, since Yuru Camp is one of my no. 1 comfort animes. It had the same charm! I can't wait to see what they come up with to participate in the competition :D

Honarary mention goes out to the teacher who still has to pay off her student loans, but who bringing much excitement to the whole thing (I'm making big eyes emojis at whoever it was she was meeting/looking for). She's very lovely.

*Okay so: I have thoughts. I have thoughts on how other girls at their school were going "Oh, it's the forehead girls" as if they've been doing that a lot and people saw and just shrugged their shoulders. It's such an interesting thing; it's also so fun how it is now Matataki who is all "please don't do this in public" when at first it seemed like Haruno would be the first to shake her head about it. Ah man, I have many thoughts but not for a ramble post.

Seven and Raffi in Picard S3: What We Know (part 2)

Original thread was getting too long, but do give it a read for the full story! I'll probably chop these into parts now that we're getting content of their interactions.

Episode 6 Round-up (now with gifs!)

When Raffi and Worf beam onto the La Sirena, Raffi immediately scans the room - and her face softens when she sees Seven. She approaches her - "hey, you. you alright?" - and Seven responds in a very Seven way - not revealing much about how she is, rather a summary of the Titan crew. Very professional. Work-focused. "We're alive, if that's what you're asking". For me, it calls back to when she calls herself "functional" in S1E5.

Worf does walk ahead of the two of them side by side in this episode, but they're not storming the bridge - whoops - just heading into the transporter room. Having had more time to process everything, Seven reaches out - "uh, it's good to see you", and Raffi says, "it's great to be seen". (I interpreted that as a reaction to her being undercover and not being seen by anyone). Then they share an exchange that, to me, showed... regret? Grief? Some poignant acknowledgement of, "we did what we had to do, but it was still hard to say goodbye"?

Being put in a live slug reaction situation, Worf points out that he's gone into battle with lovers countless times - Seven interjects and says she's not going - and Worf says that it was a relief, and he was practicing deceit. "Breakups on my homeworld seldom end without bloodshed". That's pretty much confirmation that Seven and Raffi are broken up, or at least on a break.

Between going into battle with lovers being therapeutic, and the breakups (the phase of being broken up?) not ending without bloodshed, it's very promising foreshadowing for when Seven and Raffi storm onto the bridge. They'll spill some blood, they'll air their feelings, they'll kiss and make up.

A now taken-down review says that "there is enough sexual tension between Seven and Raffi to power a small-scale ship". We start to see hints of that tension this episode. These two clearly still have eyes for each other and are not over each other, and there was a lot repressed in the short conversation they were able to have.

I mean, look at the way they look at each other. Eyes up here, people.

Anyway, I suspect we'll see more of this tension as they try to repress their feelings and attend to the mission at hand. But I think they'll realise that - in the words of Matalas - they will always be family.

This is significant wording! Family has been a great part of this season. From ep4 onwards, a Family Theme was introduced. This motif was reintroduced when Seven talks about her family aboard the Voyager this episode. The way she phrases it makes it seem like she doesn't have anyone to call family right now.

I think Seven's arc will be to realise that Raffi is family to her. Not only Raffi, but people on the Titan, Picard, etc. That being in Starfleet means that other people have her backs and she can do the same for them. It'll be a continuation of her long-standing arc to learn to be more vulnerable, to learn to trust, to create a home with someone.

Notably, Seven and Raffi were left out of the significant action towards the end. The TNG crew try to revive not-Data Data, Worf vows to hunt down the Shrike and save Riker and Deanna. I'm not sure what Saffi will be doing next episode. Probably hunting down the Shrike on the Titan. But I am hoping that this means they'll have some time to catch up with each other and talk.

Predictions for Ep7:

Terry has said it's a Vadic-heavy episode, so my guess is whatever Saffi are doing is the b-plot.

Seven and Raffi collaborate on a task, and they butt heads as they learn to work with each other again. The tension builds up.

Their relationship are still on the backburner this episode.

Predictions for the rest of the season:

More tension building in ep 8. Possibly, Raffi's family is addressed again, especially her granddaughter.

Saffi's key moment comes in ep9. Much like last season's extraordinary moment. Either in the aftermath or the eve of a great battle. Or both. It will be underscored by the Family Theme.

Seven and Raffi storm onto the bridge in episode 9.

Seven commandeers the Enterprise-F and hails the fleet of retired ships to attack against the infiltrated, interconnected active fleet.

There will be a Saffi kiss in the season finale. Just a gut feeling.

Possibly Raffi (and Seven?) meeting her granddaughter and Gabe, if they're present for Frontier Day.

Thoughts on Doctor Who - Dot and Bubble!

You know what, it's a bold new choice on Doctor Who to go, "Actually, this entire pastel-washed Celebration-meets-Tiktok society probably should die" but I can't say it's like. Entirely wrong in this case. Can't help someone who's so thoroughly wedged up their own arse (or stuck in their own bubble, ofc) they actively refuse help due to their own bigotry, y'know?

Actually, it's very much an 'offering mercy to the enemy' kind of thing. Which, historically, hasn't tended to go great either. It just hits a little different because we spent the entire episode focused on Lindy's storyline that we go, "Oh, she's the protagonist" and it's only at the end that we really get confirmation of, "Ah. She's the enemy." Although, in fairness, the endless microaggressions piling up culminating in killing Ricky was a pretty big hint, so…

Kind of refreshing that the first episode in which the Doctor's skin colour comes up is set in the future, which normally are pretty free of like. Racism and bullshit like that. Like Martha, Bill, Yaz, and Ryan all mention racism being an issue in historical episodes, Thirteen only gets talked down because of her apparent gender in a historical. You kind of make this assumption that even if there are still massive issues in the future, something like race isn't one of them. Only, it is. And Fifteen is the one to come up against the brunt of it. Any other Doctor, and the entitlement may have shown, but the racism may have stayed hidden (unless, again, Martha, Bill, or Yaz and Ryan as companion). Fifteen, however, gets them to show their asses just by virtue of existing. He was literally trying to save their lives!

Quote from RTD: "The moment we cast Ncuti, everyone said to me, "Oh my god, what's it going to be like when he goes into the past? Because a Black Doctor's going to face such racism." You sit there going, "What about now? Why do you think that racism's only in the past, when you look at what's happening to the world?""

Did come across as very nihilistic, ending-wise. RTD has said this episode was Black Mirror-influenced, and yeah, can definitely see that. You know what, that planet and the Finetime community are doomed. The planet's population is gone, a good chunk of Finetime's population is gone (or couldn't be led to safety, in which case it's only a matter of time), and lbr these kids only learned to walk a few hours ago. I would be amazed if they lasted a week playing Pioneers outside. And there's nothing that the Doctor can do, because they're so entrenched in their own racism that they refuse the literal lifeline he's throwing to them!

Conclusion: Fascinated how they went from, "Social media bad!" and "Killer AI!" to, "Actually, maybe social media isn't the problem and maybe, just maybe, it's people being so obsessed with staying within their literal bubbles that they begin to systematically dehumanise anyone who doesn't 'belong'" and also, "Actually yeah I'm kinda going for the AI deciding that the best way to deal with institutionalised and entrenched racism and bigotry is to kill them all with giant slugs."

(I mean, if the Dot AI could see how literally everyone was, I assume they realised they wouldn't accept a sapient AI as a new life form…)

Acting: Not quite as Doctor-lite as 73 Yards, this was more… Diet Doctor and Companion. That said, what we did get from Ncuti Gatwa was goddamn masterful. His reaction when he realises what's going on the end was heartwrenching - the disbelieving laughter, then the anger and frustration. So goddamn good. That said, Callie Cooke as Lindy was obnoxious and thus perfectly acted. Like at the beginning you were lowkey hoping she'd get her head out of her arse, and by the end you were hoping she'd get eaten :D Also enjoyed Tom Rhys Harries as someone who's been raised in the bubble but is at least trying to start just… slowly stepping out of it, only to be violently rejected by the rest of the bubble.

Continuity: Another Susan Twist! This time, actually called out! You know, there are two possibilities here, and both are extremely funny: 1) RTD intentionally cast an actor named Susan Twist to appear in every episode in order for her multiple appearances to foreshadow a twist revealing Susan Foreman, or 2) RTD intentionally cast an actor named Susan Twist to appear in every episode in order for her multiple appearances to have absolutely nothing to do with Susan Foreman and the repeated appearances are something else entirely. Either way, it's goddamn hilarious.

Nothing on Ruby's backstory this week, including a lack of snow. Ruby did feel somewhat unimportant here, she was only really there to make Lindy actually listen, because she's white and blonde and therefore Like Them and therefore worthy of listening to, and could have been replaced by any other young white companion, like Rose or Clara. If it had been the Doctor on his own, or Martha, Bill, or Yaz and Ryan as companions (or potentially even Donna, who might have got caught by ageism?), Lindy would have just kept blocking and blocking and never, ever listening.

The Big Bads of the season continue to oscillate between the possible Pantheon (the Toymaker, Maestro, possibly Mad Jack/the Fairies?) and just. Humanity. The humans who forced babies to be born then abandoned them, the military industrial complex, nuclear ambitions (the only one so far not set very far in the future), and now pastel-washed white supremicists. Very much a 'yeah, humanity definitely still hasn't solved these issues yet' kind of thing.

The 'stories being real' theme was handled kind of obliquely. Still definitely there, but it was a human consequence of being stuck in their own bubbles/narratives and being unable to see or accept anything outside it, and less a metatextual example like with other episodes.

which would help her better understand both of her lives and consecutively be at peace with her identity again. it becomes a blend, Fish guides her to look for the best of both worlds n embrace that. accept her strange existence as is, because ultimately what matters is the present moment and in the present moment she is simply... Living. and that's good. she'll be okay as she is

I think it's important to mention here that I KNOW I can be 100% myself around Girt, I'm just so wildly afraid of rejection/judgment/being seen as "weird" that I'm still sometimes needlessly hesitant. I've gotten better about it, though.

Something helpful to lose weight is… Not a very helpful response, but real talk, the most reliable "how to" I've found is to be in a good mental health state. My heaviest era took place during my saddest, and my healthiest weights post-initial mass weight gain came from periods where I was mentally well. NO, you do NOT need to be "okay" to lose weight, I'm just saying historically, that stood out for me.

A fear of mine is… Aside from the answers I normally give, for some variety, slugs. I'm very afraid of them just because of their sliminess and general texture. I will scream if I see one, and will NOT touch something one is on, even though I know how stupid that is, it's like I expect them to bolt up my arm when they're fuckin slugs, bro lmao. I want to overcome this fear, I actually think visually slugs are quite cute, and they're also helpful organisms that are just so harmless, but I'm so freaked out by them. It's funny, I'm not scared of snails at all; it's like put a shell on their back and suddenly the cuteness overrides the "ew slimy" reaction.

Do you work better alone or in a group? ALONE. I was one of those students in school that was often allowed to work alone when things were meant to be group projects; my teachers liked me and also had faith in my ability to deliver, so they respected how I was comfortable working.

What are 3 essential items you won’t leave the house without? My phone and inhaler are the only real musts. I carry my wallet in my purse too (where my phone and inhaler are too), and it has important cards in there, such as my blood type in case of some wild emergency where I need a blood transfusion and I'm nonresponsive.

What is something you want to be remembered for? I advocated for love and peace and kindness towards our planet and all that live in it.

What is your favorite thing about the beach? Being in the water. I'm one of those people that love being smacked (but not totally abused lol) by the waves, being tossled a bit and stuff. If reminds me how small I am, how inconsequential my ass is in the giant scope of the universe and even just this single planet. It's VERY freeing from anxiety, I just feel very peaceful when I'm in the ocean. I hate the salty wind, I hate the yucky sand and walking through it and having it stick to your wet body, but being in the ocean is an S-tier experience for me.

Are you afraid of snakes? Not at all, snakes are some of my favorite animals on the planet. Like sure, I'm going to be respectful to venomous species and give them space, but even those I'm not properly "afraid" of.

Do you like mangoes? So I'm funny with mangoes. Mango flavor? It's one of my favorites! But the texture of real mangoes is so fucking repulsive to me, I can't eat them. I was SO disappointed when I tried one the first time.

What’s your hair texture? It's VERY thick. Smooth, I guess. Mostly straight, mild waviness.

Do you play games on your phone? Yeah, I enjoy PokemonGO, DragonVale, Dragons of Atlantis, and Amaru (it's a self-care pet but has "game" traits to it).

A Friend Loves at All Times

After a party's friends last night, Brick woke up, finding that he's late from job. "Oh shit!" He thought to himself, it was like 07:00am and the local should start at 08:30am, the traffic were completely terrible that time. Brick looked to that asleep Carrie, oh how adorable she looked during the sleep - he couldn't help but giving at kiss at her cheek.

"Goodbye, love! Promise to return later." Whispered to her ear, she could feel a chill running on neck, but smiled by hearing his typical sweet-goofy tone. And grinned with a red smile around the cheeks.

And with all caring to not wake her, Brick crawled silently like a slug, feeling the coldness on floor by his fingers. "Uuugh! Looks like it would be freezy today..'' Exclaimed to himself. And in few seconds, brushed the teeths, wore some clothes, a toast with butter and drove faster as could. Roading tires for minutes, Brick looked to clock, now it miss just three minutes to arrive the doom at time.

"HEY DUDE! MOVE ON, I DON'T HAVE TIME!!" Yelled in frustration, but nothing to the traffic move, so he tried for a short cut. It worked, however, his car got an engine dysfunction: it didn't stop leaking oil, it some short smokes and one of the tires were empty because a sharp rock on way. He could call Bill the Mechanic, but he was already pretty late, so Brick didn't have choices except to push after the job. As expected, Brick was scolded by his boss and made to write down all the paperwork and followed up by screwing in all the long pipes for buildings under development.

At lunchtime, Carrie decides to call her husband and notices that, as well as having forgotten his coat, Brick hasn't taken the lunch she prepared last night.

"Hi darling!" Said the freckled girl, in the same sweet, soft tone, which was like a song to the young man's ears.

"Hi, sweetheart!" Carrie explained to him what had happened, and of course the boy apologized, but the understanding girl consoled him, saying she'd put it in the microwave so he could eat it at dinner time. And later, after all the paperwork has been done and the screws have been fixed in the pipes, Brick pushes his car to Bill's garage, and it takes more than three long hours before the car finally starts working again, and so Brick, despite dealing with a hangover, storms, a car that had broken down and all dirty and messy with sweat and mud, manages to get home.

"Bricky!" Carrie came running towards her, completely excited by her husband's arrival. She wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed his cheek, making him blush shyly.

"Hi, princess!" Said the boy, tired and a little weak from overwork.

"Are you all right, darling?" Brick tried to hide the fact that nothing was wrong, but from the moment he started sneezing, the girl realized that the boy had caught a cold, so the blonde used her powers to carry the boy's suitcase and support him to the living room. In the living room, while Carrie went to the kitchen to prepare some medicinal tea, Brick noticed that there was a box next to her. It was pink, decorated with red roses and small white balls. Next to it, there was a letter and this letter was not ironically for Brick, which made the boy smile genuinely, even after a stressful day.

He kisses the letter and opens the package, which turns out to be a beautiful sweater, made by Carrie herself, which was due to be unveiled at Christmas. When Carrie returned, she laughed at the boy's reaction.

"Do you like the sweater, love?" He looked like a child who had just been given a new toy, the boy hugged her tightly and kissed her cheek several times, making the shy girl blush absurdly.

"You're simply the best wife in the world, darling!" Carrie couldn't help but blush again at her husband's compliments. And so, that evening ended with Carrie and Brick having a relaxing hot bath in the tub, then eating the leftovers from the previous party and watching a romantic movie in the living room, with the couple cuddling up to each other.

Fullmetal Alchemist Chapter 91

This chapter is just setting up the last fights against the remaining villains.

Outside Central City, Al is facing against Pride and Kimblee.

Kimblee seems a bit unsettled by Pride killing Gluttony. Remember that he's fighting alongside the Homunculi because they let him be a mad bomber. But he ultimately wants to see if humans or Homunculi are more fit to inherit the future.

Pride's sheer lack of concern for his fellow Homunculus seems a bit off-putting to Kimblee, but it's not a dealbreaker to him. He accepts Pride's excuse for eating Gluttony, however flimsy it might be.

First time I read this, I was so worried for Heinkel. I thought he might die right after I'd decided I wanted the Chimeras to all live.

Pride doesn't attack while Al and Heinkel are trapped in the dust cloud. Maybe all that dust blocking light without making effective shadows limits Pride's abilities?

Ed impressed Kimblee with his resolve to not kill. And now Al has impressed him with his resolve to fight to protect those around him.

Somewhere in the underground passages, May has encountered an army of the artificial soldiers. More likely than not, Envy revealed some additional secret passage that may could take to enter Father's layer. Still don't know why it took her several months to get to Central City though.

Envy getting tossed around in that jar is cute and funny only because Envy is a little slug.

May had an appropriate reaction to seeing Envy assimilate all the artificial soldiers to recreate itself. Only question I have is could Envy have done that with regular humans or was it able to do that because they were artificial bodies powered by Philosopher's Stones?

And Envy is super heavy again.

In Central HQ, Major General Armstrong takes one of the top brass as a hostage to demand Central to withdraw their troops. Surprisingly, the commander refused to yield no matter how much she stabbed him. Not that it saved him.

And Olivier Mira Armstrong SAYS THE THING!!! Her sword has been passed down the Armstrong line FOR GENERATION!!

Not much to say about team Ed. We're just getting assurance those dolls aren't going to escape into Lab 3.

And Hohenheim has reached Father's lair. He had gone in the same direction Roy and Havoc had gone back during the Super Heist, so he likely walked into that abandoned lab room and walked through the door Lust came out of. Ed's team has to fight a big army of zombie dolls to get to Father, and Hohenheim just casually reached him with no issue.

Upon meeting, Hohenheim is quick to remind Father of who he is. He's just an arrogant little dwarf kept in a flask. And not to be outdone, Father reminds Hohenheim that he was once a slave who didn't even have a name.

Father's insult doesn't really strike as much as Hohenheim's though. Hohenheim has grown and become far more than what he was. Father is still the same conniving thief.

It thankfully doesn't get bad due to the chapter lengths and Arakawa's quick story-telling pace, but this chapter leaves us with SEVEN major concurrent plot threads. Alongside the 5 we saw in this chapter, we also have Roy's team fighting the Central troops and Foo and Lanfan searching for the rogue Greed.

I think the closest the story has ever gotten to this many major threads happening at the same time was in the aftermath of Heist 3. We had Ed and Lin trapped in Gluttony's stomach, Al and Gluttony visiting Father, Sacar and May searching for Xiao Mei, Roy discovering the corruption in Central City, and a minor thread of Lanfan recovering from her lost arm. And there was only one fight going on prior to any of these threads coming together.

The next several chapters really show how well Arakawa can juggle multiple events simultaneously while making sure each chapter feels like the story is moving forward.

“Hmm,” Dazai hummed raising an eyebrow.

Chuuya looked like he was about to burst, whether from embarrassment, annoyance, or both he didn’t know. But, he had very little patience and would rather ask literally anyone else. But, Dazai was perfect for this, and he didn’t have time to find someone else.

“ I said I need a favor.”

Dazai had that stupid look on his face that told Chuuya he’d never live this down. But at this point, he was willing to do anything to piss off Kouyou. If she was going to pester him about having no love life, he would bring a date to christmas dinner, it was just going to be the person she hated most. 

Chuuya took a deep breath, "I need a date to christmas dinner with Kouyou, but it has to be someone she hates.”

“Awww. Chibi-chan wants me to meet his family? I’m honored! How about new years at my place then?”

“Grrrrr, did you not hear me say I just needed someone she hates!”

“Fine.”

“Look I don’t like this anymore then you do but一 wait what?”

“A chance to annoy dear ane-san, I’d be a foul to pass it up! But, I have one condition.”

“Ugh, I’m gonna regret this. What?”

“You’re trying to piss her off, so I can do whatever I see fit.”

“...could be worse, fine,we have an agreement. Saturday, meet me at Kouyou’s at 7.”

“So, where’s this date of yours?” Chuuya could hear the condescension in Kouyou’s voice.

“He’s just running late,” Chuuya grumbled, he hoped Dazai was just late.

Just then the doorbell rang, and just as he had hoped, Kouyou went to open it. She looked so proud, and happy, Chuuya couldn’t wait to see her reaction. Following her to open the door, he felt a bit of panic. Dazai liked to annoy him more than anyone, what if he acted like an angel in front of Kouyou instead of his usual shittyy self (not that it’d change her opinion of him). 

“Welcome to一” by the smug look on Dazai’s face, Chuuya could imagine how Kouyou’s face looked. He let out a small smile before pushing past Kouyou and saying,” Ane-san, this is my boyfriend. I don’t think I really need to introduce him.”

This would be fun.

“So, that went well!” Dazai chirped. How he could be so chipper after Golden Demon almost killed him at least twice in the first 5 minutes he didn't know. But, Dazai did exactly what he needed. Between horrible flirting, trying to kiss him (his third brush of death for the night), and asking to stay the night, Kouyou was beyond done with him. 

Chuuya was only aloud to walk Dazai home by insisting it would be rude if he didn’t. Kouyou being who she was had to let him walk Dazai home. At first he had picked Dazai to annoy Kouyou, but now一 now he wasn’t so sure. When Dazai wasn’t trying to piss Kouyou off, he was nice company, he also looked really good cleaned up. Hell he even changed his bandages.

“Uh-oh.”

“What?” Chuuya turned to look up at Dazai.

“Is the slug thinking? You should be careful, you might blow a fuse,” Dazai giggeled, avoiding a kick from Chuuya.

“Anyway, since I helped Slug, Slug should do a favor for me.”

“Who said anything about that?!” Chuuya tried to look offended, although he seemed more flustered then angry.

“I did. So, how ‘bout new years?”

“What, need me to help you piss off Mori?” Chuuya sneered.

“Nope! I had fun tonight, so, what do you say?”

“Ugh! Fine,” he yelled,” but only so I don’t owe you.”

“Sure, sure. Since we’re going out together, wear a Kimono?”

“Like hell I will you shitty Mackerel!” He yelled kicking at Dazai again before storming off back the way they came.

“Hey! I thought you were walking me home?!” Dazai snickered.

“Walk home yourself shitty Mackerel!” 

Ah yes, new years would be fun. And maybe he’d talk with Kouyou about a kimono just to mess with Dazai… just maybe.

[The church is changing. That much was obvious enough with the old preacher was slaughtered on the altar. But the man taking his place seems to be able to get along well enough with most of the others, so Gedian does what he can to play nice with the man. Even if that lands more in the area of avoiding him when possible.

He notices before the rest of them, that his sister is fawning over the man, and trailing behind him near every night. Notices how he sees her less and less as the weeks draw on. Sees her disposition change for him, subtle as it may be.

For a man that killed their preacher in front of them. Displayed his entrails like a holy wreath. Made a mockery of… anything the man had been trying to do.

Ged likes a good fight as much as the next troll, but taking brutality into worship like this just strikes him as wrong.

But what did he know? This Speaker supposedly had a direct connection to something, messiah or otherwise. What would his thoughts matter in comparison?

His words fall on deaf ears. So he lets himself grouse and sit in irreverence as much as he pleases. Nobody else should much care, after all. It’s not like they’re the ones he’s rolling his eyes at.

He‘s asked to meet with Maldyn after service.

His sister is there. Of course she is- she’s the one that’s been trying hardest to smooth over the tensions between them, after all.

“If I didn’t know better, son, I’d think you hated me.”

The man has his stupid ever-present smile, like Gedian doesn’t feel the sneer that’s trying to turn the expression in spite of it.

His sister gives him a harsh look when he rolls his eyes.

“Gee, couldn’t imagine why. Come in and turn over all our lives and don’t expect a little resistance? Think nobody’s gonna give a shit when folks start disappearing? Either you’re hunting your own fucking congregation, or you’re ignoring someone else doing it. Either way, makes for shitty leadership. I don’t respect you, and I sure as hell don’t like you, so I’d rather not piss around the bush with the niceties, if you’d save us both some fucking time for once.”

The man lifts his chin with a hum. Glances to Desnea behind his glasses.

“Well. If we’re saving time, I see no reason to wait on this decision. Echo, do me a favor and kill your brother, for me.”

He says it so casually, like when he asks her to bring him a pen or to repeat what someone’s said. A laugh bubbles up from Gedian’s chest before he realizes, and he sounds a bit hysteric.

“The fuck? Gonna have my own hatchmate do your dirty work for you? Gods, you’re farther up your own ass than I thought. Des, what the hell do you see in this guy?”

He doesn’t exactly expect a response, but the reaction he gets feels… out of place. She’s just… staring at him. She’s not… actually considering this, is she? Would she rea-

He feels her lunge an instant before she does it, and that’s all that saves him from a blade lodged between his ribs.

He’s got her hand in his own, and he can feel blood on his side, and she’s snarling at him, and…

Oh. He gets it.

Maldyn wanted a choice out of her, and he got it. Ain’t that something.

He feels like he’s swallowed slugs.

When Desnea swings again, he has a decision of his own to make. And he’s not the sort of troll to kill his kin if he can avoid it. He knows how she gets, and that makes things incredibly simple.

He runs.

And he runs.

And he scrubs the paint from his face until he can’t imagine what he’d look like with it anymore.

And he takes a saw to his horns.

And scissors to his hair.

And he keeps changing, each time she goes out of her way to find him again.

Because he’s never been anything if not stubborn, and this is somewhere he’s not going to give in.]

Caesar Route Chapter 12 (6-10)

Last time on the Caesar Route, everybody got very close to finally finding the Star Sapphire, and then Caesar died.

Nevermind, he just turned into a pig, I guess. Wait, who the hell did he kiss? Apparently nobody, according to the narration.

I guess this is supposed to clue us into Caesar becoming only an animal, not a human inside an animal, but I guess the route forgor that Liz’s special ability is literally talking to animals.

Nevermind, it looks like the route did not forgor, although it doesn’t really make sense for her to not understand Caesar just because she’s only at half magic power. From my understanding, she could just... do that. Idk, guess it’s weird for me to expect magic to act like anything less than what is convenient for the plot, y’know?

Slight tangent here, okay, but why the fuck is Lucious in all these CGs? Like, is it the fucking Lucious route? Wait your turn, budders. I swear, all these new routes just include fucking whoever in their CGs. Remember that one where Hiro was straddling Caesar and Liz was in the corner like she was the live slug reaction?

Ah, simpler times.

Anyway Lucious drops some previously unmentioned Baroque lore in that the curse slowly turns Baroques into pigs permanently and their spirit gets trapped in the Labyrinth, so I guess we just found out who all the shadows are. 

Idk man this still just makes you look like a huge asshole since you didn’t help a guy who was going to turn into a literal pig just because he didn’t tell anybody about that stipulation of the curse. 

It honestly seems like the least harmless of Caesar’s lies. Sure, it’ll hurt people emotionally and it was kind of a dick move to keep it from Liz, since he claimed he was in love with her, but considering his whole thing with Zett, it’s hardly the most dangerous lie in the mix.

So that’s the big twist of the route, I guess. Woo.

Liz starts crying and realizes she’s in love with Caesar because reasons. She kisses the pig’s snout, but surprise! Nothing happens.

WHY ARE YOU STILL HERE? And what the hell is everyone else doing? Are they just sitting there, watching this, without saying a single thing??

Then Zett of all people fucking shows up, claiming he can do something to help Caesar and Liz just,,,,, believes him. Without even asking questions. I mean I get it’s a dire situation, but geez..

Zett uses the Potion of Plot Convenience to somehow undo everything that just happened to Caesar and return him to human form. Liz is at first relieved to see him back to human form, then is pissed over everything he kept from her, and rightfully so tbh!

Zett gets butthurt over not getting any gratitude or attention, at which point Caesar thanks him and Zeus finally remembers how to open his mouth again (oh well, it was fun while it lasted), and everyone remembers that Zett is supposed to be imprisoned right now, which means he broke out.

Zett casually mentions that he let himself be caught (mmHM) and that it was all part of the plan. Mischa suggests that Caesar stop fucking lying, and he agrees.

Before I end today’s segment, I just want to take a moment to talk about some stuff. I know that I’m harping on Caesar a lot this route for some of his less than stellar choices, and I’ve been getting on Lucious’s case a lot, and Hugo’s bullshit is really ambiguous, and also Shithead (no other words are needed for that one). But I want to briefly talk about the main villain of these past few routes: the Day King. 

Like okay, your daughter falls in love with some dude you don’t really like. Whatevs. It’s a fictional dad rite of passage. It’s gonna happen to all of you. And I’m sure your response to it is totally normal and healthy. Oh wait, no it wasn’t. It was to throw him into a magical labyrinth and curse him to be trapped there for all eternity. And do you pay the price for that? No, of course not, the entire price had to be paid by all the descendants of the noble house that either helped you or you stole their magic, or whatever the arrangement was, because it feels like the wording keeping changing.

Anyway, fuck the Day King, all my homies hate the Day King.

ok so update, i just found zee and went back to pyloons saloon. i havent gotten very far but i just have so many things to say!!!!

ok so i dont know if i already mentioned this but i loveee the customization. its so in depth and i really like that you unlock small paint collections with a couple different colors/materials. and from there you can change every individual part and choose how polished they are, then you can change the ware overall. i love the vibrant coruscant color set so first, i made a silvery lightsaber with purple and pink accents with a purple blade. and same thing for bd-1. right now, i unlocked some more orangy colors so right now i have a brownish-orange saber with vibrant orange accents and an orange blade. might fuck around with it some more. and i am loving the tactical jacket that has a CAPEE. my boy is so stylish. i made his undershirt the scrapper one (because it has rolled up sleeves and only one glove) in blue. i cant wait to unlock more things and continue to play with customization. only thing is that i WISH you could save designs you make. maybe you can and i havent unlocked it yet (praying)

i really like the upgrades to the camera feature. i didnt mess with it a whole lot in fallen order but i really like how much more in depth it is. heres a picture i took

i really appreciate how much attention to detail there is. the decoration around the saloon is very nice and it feels very homey there.

also i need to mention that the subtle nods to jokes are so good. greez’s salt shaker, cal’s ponchos, THE LITERAL LIVE SLUG REACTION CREATURE (not the same one but you know.). also i must mention that the bathroom in the saloon is really cool? (and i laughed so hard when cal removed that thing from the toilet). ive never seen a star wars bathroom, except the one in disney land 😭 it was so dirty and ugly in there and it STUNK so bad and there were like 30 people in it. also the sinks were really weird and it took me a hot minute to figure out how to activate the sensor lmao

okay characters. mosey? she is so hot im gonna die. i like doma’s design. OKAY ZEE? i will die for zee. i love her so much shes the best droid ever. i love my high republic era droid and will protect her from all harm.

this game really is an upgrade in all categories. especially in cutscenes and story, it just feels much more polished and smooth. the cutscene after cal woke up was a particularly emotional one, what with the first real dig we’ve seen into cal’s emotions. we see him acting rash and emotionally, getting angry. its so interesting to see how he’s changed. and to see the rift between him and cere especially. he’s clearly avoiding it and i haven’t seen much yet, but im guessing that theyve gotten into more disagreements about how jedi should act. cere is very traditional in a lot of ways, where cal is doing what he needs to survive. from the trailers, it looks like cere’s trying to build up the jedi archives again, where cal is working with saw gurera or however you spell his name and trying to hit the empire where it hurts. cal is a man of action and that can’t be reasoned with. its just how he grew up. with the jedi order gone and him having to fend for himself and protect his identity from the ripe age of 10, he’s definitely not going to be a traditional jedi like cere, who became a master with her own padawan before it fell. she’s had more teaching and learned more lessons and overall taken away more than cal. he can’t just settle down. that’s not who he is. he needs to fight back and help others. he’s active and cere seems more passive. so anyway im excited to see where this goes.

thats about it i just wanted to sit and write my thoughts before i play too much and forget these things over more important things i’ll see later on.

My #1 post of 2022

I feel like any read of NitW that concludes that you're meant to dislike Mae because "she is a horrible person," which there are many of, is a reading that fundamentally misunderstands the game and how it forces you to key in to her humanity and hopes you empathize with her.

I think my favorite moment like that is at lategame in an optional conversation with Pastor K where Mae ends up upset at how the pastor said she also has difficulty believing in god sometimes.

Of course even Mae realizes she just behaved like a dick to Kate by asking her what the point of her job is if she can't definitively tell people that a higher power is real... and Kate is 100% correct in saying that it wouldn't actually do any good for her to get up in church and tally how many times she believed during that week. It's a discussion about Faith.

But it's important to see that interaction in concert with what's happening in Mae's life: not just the mental illness she's dealing with, but also that time she met who she believed to be God... and it pretty much told her it doesn't really care.

Mae's young adult alienation is a key theme of the game and at that moment, all she wanted was to have someone tell her there is an easy answer to everything, but once again, Pastor K correctly tells her there isn't one... which ties back into what the cat god said... and once again makes Mae feel lost, directionless and adrift in life.

You can understand why, even though she messes up a lot, sometimes on purpose, sonetimes not, she would feel the way she does - and making the climax of the plot heavily tied into her emotional journey is cogent with a narrative that wants people to get better, even if it may not happen all at once.
