Sam: "It's a private room. Go away."

Bucky comes into view beside Sam.

Bucky: "Missed you too."

They look at each other. Bucky a soft smile. Sam looks away, a smile tugging the corner of his mouth.

Sam: "I hate to admit it...I'm glad you're here."

Sam looks back to Bucky and they both go in for a hug, Bucky closing his eyes in it. They part, stood side-by-side again.

Bucky: "You looked good out there on that 6 o'clock."

Sam shakes his head a bashful smile. Then sombre again.

Bucky: "But then I saw this."

Sam: "Doctors had to restart his heart. They don't know if..."

Sam closes his eyes.

Bucky: "This isn't your fault."

Sam: "It makes me think of Steve. How many alien invasions did he stop, again?"

Bucky: "Two."

Sam: "Two. Wow. What made me think I could follow that. I should have took the serum. Like Steve. Like you."

Bucky looking at Sam.

Bucky: "Why?"

Sam: "Because this is all starting to seem much bigger than me."

Sam turns to fully face Bucky.

Sam: "Ross, he asked me to restart the Avengers, Buck. But Joaquin's in here. Isaiah's in prison. And Sterns...I had him. I had Sterns. Right in my hands. And he got away. He damn near pushed us to the brink of war, because I wasn't—"

Sam emotionally cuts himself off.

Bucky: "Say what you need to say."

Sam looks down, then back to Bucky.

Sam: "Steve made a mistake."

Bucky: "No he didn't. He gave you that shield, not because you're the strongest, but because you're you. You think if you had that serum, you'd be able to protect all the people you care about. Steve had it, and he couldn't. You're a human being and you're doing your best. Steve gave people something to believe in, but you...you give them something to aspire to."

Sam squints at Bucky.

Sam: "Did your speech writers help you with that?"

Bucky: "They did, yeah, the ending, a little bit. Well, did you like it? Was it—?"

Sam: "No no, it was good. Solid...B plus."

Bucky: "Yeah. Emotional."

Sam: "Very. I felt it."

Bucky: "But just enough."

Sam: "Yeah."

Bucky: "Listen, I've gotta...catch a plane. I have a campaign fundraiser. It's so stupid."

They look over Torres, smiling. Bucky looks at Sam.

Bucky: "He's gonna be all right, man."

Sam looks at Bucky, shakes Bucky's hand.

Sam: "Thanks, Buck."

Bucky: "I love you, buddy."

Bucky cuffs Sam's arm and leaves; Sam nods, looking after him.

thinking about q!bad.... he hangs in the back of crowds because he gets overstimulated easily and has a low social battery... he goes nonverbal when hes upset... he cant read rooms properly and often has inappropriate emotional states juxtaposed to the actual situations at hand... he has a one track mind when it comes to blaming his pranks on other people and is confused as to how others dont take words they see at face value and continuously tries to do that over and over despite it never working... he doesnt pick up on inappropriate jokes or people flirting with him or laughing when he unintentionally makes sexual innuendos.... he has his own set of personal convictions and rules that dont coincide with the law or regular morals of other people around him.... he often misinterprets how people react to things and is completely oblivious to it until they tell him otherwise and is then surprised because hes been reading their signs wrong the whole time.... he fights for attention from others in unconventional ways... the way he loves and cares for people deviates so hard from the standard that people he knows often take a while to understand how he expresses affection and then have to take the time to explain it to others... he writes letters in complete extremes and cant ever properly find a middle ground.... he stims so fucking often both vocally and physically.... he over explains himself because he is afraid of people misinterpreting him... he has an abstract view of gender, names, familial roles, and the world around him extending to time and space.. he has a hard time digging deeper into other peoples thoughts and feelings because he often takes things others say at face value... he follows instructions down to the letter... he fixates on tasks and hobbies easily and spends extensive amounts of time and attention to detail to get them absolutely perfect or hes not gonna do them at all... he doesnt like physical contact... he often makes a clown of himself and doesnt understand whats so funny when people laugh... he eats fucking everything.... he has the fattest tits on the island.... he lays eggs.....

Books of 2024: Cincy Bookstore Crawl Haul!

I have spent the past thirty (30) hours whirlwinding through ten (10!!!) indie bookstores in the Greater Cincinnati Area, and I had such a great time!! I told myself I was allowed to purchase Up To One (1) book at every store, which I actually mostly stuck to--I did get two used books at the Friends of the Public Library (INVISIBLE MAN and BLACK LEOPARD, RED WOLF), because those were each $3 (so I figured it hardly counted), and two at Downbound (beloved), but one is a gift so it also doesn't really count thanks :)

Silly little craft project for my mental health: my own take on Topsy from Raggedy Ann and Andy: A Musical Adventure! It's been a while since I worked with clay, it took a few tries to get her face the way I wanted it, but I'm super happy with the results :D

since it seems to be the topic du jour this morning, the only worldstate for veilguard i have a strong opinion / have a default for - at least for this blog's canon i have very strong opinions about everything otherwise and no i will not apologize - is going to be the mortal vs lich decision.

mostly because it, as a whole, is the only thing that really effects emmrich's overall path. like...if minrathous is blighted he still reaches out to and makes friends with neve anyway. if treviso is blighted, the only thing that changes is that even with lucanis lashing out he tells him he's going to look out for him and spite, anyway. no matter who dies in the battle with ghilan'nain he's still going to grieve because they were a friend. he has his own opinions on things, sure, but overall he's there to act as support, as opposed to as a major piece on the board in a lot of it.

(there's nothing wrong with playing the support role, either. his generally being otherwise of the not having a personal horse in this race for a lot of things means he acts a pinion character, his role to support and bolster those who do doesn't change, it just has a different focus depending on those outcomes.)

but for him, personally (and for the purposes of this blog's worldstate), mortal vs lich is going to matter. on the one hand we still have a man who is still very, very mortal and squishable pushing on against his fear of death anyway to the very end. on the other, a veritable undead magical juggernaut who takes immortality as meaning invulnerabllity and charges recklessly ahead because it's like he thinks he's suddenly got superpowers or something instead of being held together with spit and magic and a little chewed gum.

(my guy, you are a literal skeleton, you are definitely not invulnerable or indestructible.)

(also yes i recognize it does make him scarily...like that, but c'mon, i'm right, i know i'm right, at some point he's going to bite off more than he can chew without any sense of self preservation because he's built this up in his head to such a large degree. hubris is gonna be his downfall, i said what i said.)

anyway, i don't think it comes as a huge surprise when i say i can roll with either one (since it's a thing that generally only matters to, like, me and/or a rook that's romanced him), but the default state in this house is mortal at the end.
