A little about Holmes' new roommate in my AU. Aisha is a 21-year-old newly qualified journalist who moved to London in search of professional opportunities, but ended up at a second-rate newspaper that barely pays enough to survive. She was struggling with the rent on her old apartment when she met Mrs Hudson, who offered her a more affordable place to stay. Brazilian, she has a very good repertoire of swear words, which she uses mainly when she is on the edge or when she wants to provoke someone she likes, but in general, she is calm and friendly. She often speaks Portuguese when she is tired or stressed and has a habit of making hand gestures. At first Holmes ignored her presence, but little by little he became fond of the girl. The two have a relationship similar to father and daughter. He is a bit overprotective of her and is reluctant to take her on cases where she goes anyway.

Mice and Murder is the best depiction of Sherlock Holmes in modern media because if Sherlock had a furry it would be a fox.
It would be an incredibly specific fox that you've literally never heard of that looks just like any other fox but it's back toe beans are like black instead of pink or something.
And yes, John Watson is a puppy

So I imagined a Sherlock AU (in which I borrow heavily from Discworld, but hear me out) - "In which Watson's marital status stays consistent, leading to him and Mary having a son."
Watson's son is born shortly after one of the cases. Watson is there to hold his son for the very first time and Mary tells him "His name is John, and no argument."
So we now have a John Watson Jr. who features in a lot of Watson's "this is what's happening in my life" beginning paragraphs.
At least one of the cases happens at his boy's school, where he gets to see Sherlock's deductions for the first time and absolutely admires "Uncle Holmes" for how smart he is. (The case was a theft, not murder this time.)
(Imagine Lestrade's ever growing headache. First there were two Holmes and now there are two Watsons.)
Watson is even more interested in solving cases after his son is born. Because he thinks "my child has to grow up in this mess, time to clean it up." But he's also extra cautious because he's got a family to think about and he doesn't want to leave them behind.
This fact makes the events of The Final Problem sting more, since Sherlock definitely has Watson sent away to protect him from Moriarty's machinations.
This also makes Sherlock's eventual return more joyous, because the whole Watson family is there to greet Holmes.
As John Watson Jr. grows up, he knows he wants to be a doctor so he can help people. He's seen his dad at work a few times and there were even a couple instances where Watson made a "house call" to take care of his son and/or Mary.
By the time Sherlock retires to become a beekeeper, John Watson Jr. has gone to one of the best universities to study medicine. And he's gotten copies of his father's writings about all the adventures with Sherlock Holmes to read between his studies.

no no no the thing about sherlock! finarfin is that he's positively insane. there's an unhinged glint in his eyes and he somehow goes days on adrenaline alone. he's like a shark: he'll start dying if he stops even for a second. and it's so important not to underestimate him, he will exploit all and every weakness he finds. but he's also so fiercly loyal, and eärwen sees a soft and caring nature behind that surface, and, well, everything else is a known story

Sherlock AU where he’s a match-maker. His blunt, no-nonsense, no sugar-coated methods would be super effective in finding out who’s actually compatible with one another.
And as a couple leaves his office having had their illusions about each other completely shattered, John will be at the reception desk to comfort them and tell them all the bright side things to make them feel better. With feelings bandaged, the couple can go home and evaluate the facts for themselves

had a dream about a duck named Sheldunt Holmes who was the duck equivalent of the detective. He had an email ([email protected]) and a phone number (1-800-HIREMEIMFREE). He also had a website that was really funky looking.

I AM FILLED WITH SO MUCH DELIGHT OVER THE NEWMANN SHERLOCK THING. OH MY GODS YOU ARE SO GENIUS. (AND THEIR FIRST MEETING WAS SO CUTE IN THAT POST AAAAAA)
THANK YOU!!! I’m so happy you enjoyed the little snippet and the concept! I’ve been reading through the entire Sherlock canon and noting down lots of bits to include and figuring out how to bring a bunch of the Pacrim cast into the story! Hermann is falling pretty naturally into the role of highly analytical Victorian smart guy (which, let’s face it, is already basically canon) and Newt is shaping up to be quite a sassy Watson ;)

Wanna read a Sherlock Holmes Old-West AU short story? Mine is in the Sherlock Holmes in the Multiverse anthology by Belanger Books! Watson is a Union Army medic that goes west for a new start after the Civil War, and Holmes is a Southern Unionist, estranged from his Confederate family. The story is called "Snake Oil," and is an Old-West retelling of "The Speckled Band."
The Kickstarter's already funded, but the rewards range from ebooks to hardcovers to a card game to a whole second anthology to go with this one, so worth checking out!

John eased the salmon out of the pan and onto a simple white plate. He added his side of green beans and then a scoop of brown rice (which was out of the box and more heavily spiced than it probably needed to be, but John liked it and he was the only critic here tonight).
His restlessness probably had nothing to do with Mary, Victor or Sherlock. He wasn’t usually honest with himself, but he felt like he was on the precipice of some massive change in his life and he wasn’t quite ready. Perhaps, if moving out of Philly wasn’t the flavor of action he was looking for, a career change might be the right way to go. Start writing more and slowly pull away from the Dr. Watson image. The bureaucracy and paperwork of the medical industry left him feeling downright sick lately. He certainly didn’t feel like he was helping anyone.
John considered what sort of story he should start writing as he placed his simple plate of food down on his small table. A plain table in a small studio flat in a city that felt like it was suffocating him. A simple, nice dinner. Alone.
John took one bite of his salmon.
And then threw the entire plate at the beige fucking wall.
