USJ Incident: Why it Should've Worked, (with fun gifs to space out the text!)
TLTR: All Might would've been ripped in half if Shoto, Bakugo, and Kirishima hadn't shown up. Nobody can plan for those fighty little monsters. And, despite the whiny tone, Shigaraki not childish to want to leave at first when there was no All Might and Tenya ran to get help, because his point was proved when the teachers arrived and he got shot instantly.
Tumblr media
Okay, hear me out here folks. ~takes a deep breath~ It should've worked.
Honestly, ya'll, with the target being All Might, Shigaraki's plan for the USJ had a decent chance. It was not a rushed plan. Right from the top, Shigaraki used the reporters as a distraction to steal the USJ schematics and the class schedule. He knew the layout and who to expect, and had a plan to deal with everyone.
He had Kurogiri to scatter the students and handle Hero 13, which Kurogiri did. A large mob to slow down Eraserhead and tie up students to keep them from interfere, which they (mostly) did. All Might, had he been there, was most likely to go straight for the leaders, aka Shigaraki and the nomu... which, when All Might did arrive, he did after saving Eraserhead.
What's more, All Might, when he did show up, ALMOST lost.
Tumblr media
Kurogiri and the Nomu were about to rip him in half when Shoto, Bakugo, and Kirishima showed up. Honestly, 1-A has a bunch of fighty monsters for students, and that's not something ANYONE would expect from fifteen year olds in their first week of hero school!
People (and the show) give Shigaraki crap for wanting to leave when All Might isn't there, especially after Tenya escapes and goes for help, but why would he stay? 🙄 This is basic conservation of energy from the mind of a predator. He's in a high risk area, rescue is on the way, and his main target isn't there. His only loss would be the low-level villains, which are cannon fodder anyway. And he's right to want to run. The second the teachers do show up, he gets shot four times before they even finish their dramatic entrance. THREE TIMES.
Tumblr media
So yeah, the plan was a very good for a first time villain debut. Flaws, sure, but the kid just barely turned twenty, give him a break.

I think it would be hilarious if there was a My Hero Academia game but Shigaraki is the 'helpful' UI. Fully voiced. The gameplay is 30% listening to him bitch about how bad you are at playing the game instead of teaching you how it works. He doesn't give you time to learn anything in the tutorial fights. He will give you wrong advice on purpose. He will give you correct advice to mislead you into distrusting him and making you do the opposite. He rearranges the UI layout and meddles with the gameplay if he's bored. He's like the Narrator in the Stanley Parable and the narrator from There Is No Game but make it a dusty, disgruntled villain who can't believe you fucked up that combo, you useless level one dungeon goblin, have you never pressed buttons before.
On the upside, he always lets you pet the dog.

The Aftermath and Everything Else
Tumblr media
FEATURING Shoto Todoroki x Female Reader, Tomura Shigaraki x Female Reader
SUMMARY the aftermath of your kidnapping
CONTENT WARNINGS kidnapping, naughty language, feelings of inadequacy
AUTHORS NOTE I apologize for edging you all for so long only to deliver a shitty chapter :( I just haven't been feeling all that inspired to write for this series in a while. I am going to try and reconfigure the layout of chapters and reevaluate where I want this story to go and hope that I can find a better alternative.
SERIES MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
“That was irresponsible, Tomura,” the smoky figure, Kurogiri, scolds as soon as you and Shigaraki stumble into what looks like an abandoned bar. His voice is even, yet laced with disapproval, his glowing eyes flicking between you and Shigaraki.
“It was part of the plan,” Shigaraki hisses, dropping your arm carelessly. Your legs buckle, and you fall to the floor, still disoriented from the dizzying sensation of being dragged through the warp gate. The cold, gritty surface of the bar floor greets you harshly as you try to gather your bearings.
“You’re telling me we went through all that trouble... for a girl?” A man lounging by the bar smirks, cigarette dangling from his lips. His cocky tone grates at your nerves, and he lets out a raspy laugh. “You’re one crazy motherfucker,” he sneers. “Lost some of your lackeys in that mess, didn’t you? Good thing I’m here to pick up the pieces.”
“Who are you?” Tomura grumbles, his voice cracking as he collapses onto a barstool. He doesn’t even look at the man, waving him off with a dismissive hand. “You know what? I really don’t care. If you want to talk business, do it later. Kurogiri, take care of him.”
The man flicks his cigarette to the floor, stepping on it with a calculated ease. As he gestures behind him, two figures step through the door. One is a young girl, about your age, with bright, crazed eyes that glint in the dim light. The unsettling smile on her face sends a chill down your spine. Her eyes lock onto you, her gaze predatory, and you instantly feel on edge.
The second figure is a man, perhaps in his mid-twenties, though it’s hard to tell with the way his skin appears—charred, stapled together in crude patches. Parts of his flesh are exposed, burnt and dead, giving him a haunting appearance. He moves with an air of nonchalance, as if the grotesque state of his body is inconsequential to him.
“I’ll keep an eye out for more recruits,” the man with the cigarette says, his voice dripping with nonchalance. “Stain’s got the streets buzzing, so it'll take time to weed out proper candidates. My rates are high, but you know I’m worth it.”
Tomura waves him off with a half-hearted nod, gesturing for Kurogiri to follow and discuss the finer details of whatever deal they had in mind.
You had edged your way to a darkened corner, trying to stay unnoticed. Observing in silence, you watched as Tomura questioned the newcomers. They bantered for a while, the tension between them crackling until he finally allowed them to stay. The girl, Himiko Toga, introduced herself with a girlish giggle that didn’t match the predatory glint in her eyes. Her gaze slid over you appraisingly, and you shuddered, her smile sending a jolt of unease through you. It was a smile you had seen before—one that held an insatiable bloodlust just beneath the surface.
Dabi, the other man, offered you little more than a cold glare before retreating into a shadowy corner, clearly uninterested in forming any bonds with the group beyond whatever short-term goals he had in mind.
Tomura sighed, wrapping his bloodied leg with a hasty strip of tape, wincing as he tightened it. “Now,” he muttered, his voice low and deliberate. He looked up at you, his eyes gleaming with malice. “Where was I?”
He pretended to hum in thought, but you knew exactly what he meant. You were the loose end. The hostage. And now that the chaos of the USJ attack was behind them, you had become the center of Shigaraki's twisted attention.
Tumblr media
The atmosphere at UA was tense, weighed down by the aftermath of the USJ attack. As the dust settled and the injured were tended to, a dark cloud hung over Class 1-A. You were missing, captured by the League of Villains, and the lingering guilt gnawed at those who had been left behind.
In the quiet of the dormitories, Todoroki stared out the window, his reflection ghosting in the glass. His fists clenched at his sides, trembling as flashes of the battle played in his mind. He had been so close—too close—and yet, he failed. The ice he’d shot toward Shigaraki had crumbled into nothing, and he had been powerless to stop you from being taken. The guilt burned deep inside him, eating away at his usual calm exterior.
"I should’ve been faster. Stronger," he muttered under his breath, eyes narrowing as his resolve hardened.
Midoriya, sitting on the couch nearby, looked up from his thoughts. His own knuckles were white as he gripped the fabric of his pants, his mind replaying every decision he made during the battle. It wasn’t just Todoroki who felt this weight—they all did. Even Bakugou, sitting in the corner with his usual scowl, felt the tension simmering beneath his exterior. Despite his rough demeanor, he hadn’t uttered a single insult since the incident, the silence speaking volumes.
“We have to get her back,” Midoriya said softly, his voice resolute. “We have to do something.”
Todoroki finally turned away from the window, meeting Midoriya’s determined gaze. “I won’t let this happen again.”
Bakugou, leaning back with crossed arms, let out a sharp breath through his nose. “Damn right, we won’t. Next time we face those villains, we’re not holding back. We’re bringing them down.”
Tumblr media
Across campus, Aizawa sat in his dimly lit office, his usually sharp eyes clouded with concern. His head rested in his hands as he replayed the moment Shigaraki took you. He had been too injured, too late to stop them. The sight of your terror-stricken face haunted him. He prided himself on protecting his students, on making sure they were ready for anything, and yet... he’d failed. And now, one of his own was in the hands of the enemy.
A knock at the door pulled him from his thoughts, and All Might entered, his usual larger-than-life presence subdued. Aizawa didn’t need to ask—he knew All Might felt the same burden.
“I wasn’t fast enough,” All Might began, his deep voice laced with regret. “If I had been there sooner…”
Aizawa cut him off with a tired wave of his hand. “It’s not just you, Toshinori. We all carry this weight.”
The two heroes sat in heavy silence for a moment, neither needing to say what was on their minds. You were gone, and there was no way of knowing what the League of Villains had planned. But this loss wouldn’t be in vain.
Aizawa sat up straighter, determination flickering in his eyes. “We need to be ready. I’m going to train them harder than ever. This can’t happen again.” His voice grew more resolute with each word. “I’ve already let them down once. I won’t do it again.”
All Might nodded, standing tall despite the creeping weakness in his body. “You’re right. We need to prepare them for what’s to come. But first, we’re going to get her back.” He clenched his fists, feeling the strain in his arms but pushing it aside. He could feel the limitations of his power pressing in on him, but he wouldn’t let that stop him. Not this time. “I’ll make sure of it.”
Aizawa raised an eyebrow, his gaze piercing. “You can’t keep pushing yourself like this. You’re already stretched thin.”
“I know,” All Might admitted, his voice steady. “But I won’t stop until she’s safe.”
There was a fire in his eyes, the same fire that had made him the Symbol of Peace. Even now, with his power fading, that unyielding resolve remained.
Back in the dorms, a plan was already forming. Midoriya, Todoroki, Bakugou, and the others gathered in one of the common rooms, eyes locked in determination. They knew they weren’t ready, not yet. But that wouldn’t stop them.
“We need to get stronger,” Todoroki said, his voice cutting through the heavy air. “If we don’t, more of us will fall.”
“Damn right we will,” Bakugou added, his voice low but fierce. “So what the hell are we waiting for?”
Midoriya glanced at both of them, his thoughts racing. We’ll train. Harder than ever before. And when the time comes, we’ll be ready.
This wasn’t just about a battle anymore—it was about redemption, about proving that they had what it took to be heroes. And nothing, not even the League of Villains, was going to stop them from getting you back.
And in the shadows of the bar, as you sat in silence under Shigaraki’s cold gaze, the same determination echoed in your heart. You weren’t broken. Not yet. And you wouldn’t stop fighting, no matter what.
The countdown to your rescue had begun.
Tumblr media
The sun was setting, casting an orange glow over the small park where you and Tenko always met after school. The air was warm, and the grass tickled your bare ankles as the two of you raced toward the swings, your childish laughter filling the air.
“Come on, faster!” Tenko yelled, his wild grin spreading from ear to ear as he pumped his legs, trying to get higher than you. His pale, messy hair flopped into his eyes as he kicked off, determined to outdo you.
“You’ll never catch up to me, Tenko!” you teased, your feet reaching out toward the sky, feeling invincible, like nothing could ever go wrong.
The two of you had been playing heroes for as long as you could remember. It was a shared dream—both of you wanted to be heroes when you grew up. While other kids avoided Tenko for reasons you didn’t quite understand, you had never been bothered by his fidgeting or the way he scratched at his arms sometimes. He was your best friend, the one who always had your back. And in your imaginary world, you always saved each other from whatever villainous threat you faced.
You jumped from the swing, landing triumphantly with your arms raised. “Look out, Tenko! Villains are attacking!”
He laughed, jumping from the swing too—less graceful, tumbling into the grass, but laughing all the same. “I’m not afraid of any villains!” he called back, scrambling to his feet. “I’ll defeat them with my amazing quirk!”
“Yeah? What’s your quirk?” you asked, turning to face him, pretending to strike a heroic pose.
Tenko paused for a moment, considering, before his face lit up with an idea. “I’ll make them disappear! Just like this!” He crouched down, pretending to grab a rock, and then held out his hand like it was dissolving into nothing. “See? Gone!”
You clapped, playing along, grinning widely. “That’s amazing! You’re the best hero, Tenko!”
His face flushed with pride, his eyes shining with happiness. “We’re both the best heroes! We’ll save everyone!”
The two of you spent the rest of the evening running around, pretending to fight off invisible villains, taking turns saving each other from imaginary danger. There wasn’t a care in the world then—just you and Tenko, and the dreams of being heroes together.
As the sky darkened, you both flopped onto the grass, staring up at the stars just beginning to appear.
“I’ll always protect you,” Tenko said quietly, his voice suddenly serious. He turned his head to look at you, his blue eyes soft and sincere. “No matter what.”
You smiled, feeling that warmth in your chest that only Tenko could bring. “And I’ll protect you too. We’ll always be heroes. Together.”

About the unfairness of Volume Covers.
Tumblr media
Ngl, I was so optimistic. All other final arc covers have been absolute bangers! Look at the Deku-Shigaraki one, or the BkDk one, they're sooo good! Plus, if we had, DkSk, DabiShouto, then why didn't we get a TogaChako? Like seriously? Was Toga that important that they decided to give her a solo cover when it could easily have been a TogaChako battle cover just to complete the Trilogy? Heck, this could have been a battle cover and no one would have a single complaint....
Tumblr media
Why is that, when it comes to Volume covers, Ochako gets the most shit treatment? Like she could have easily been a part of a lot of covers, and she could easily have gotten at least one solo Volume Cover but nope! 400+ chapters and not a single Ochako dedicated cover making her the only MC in MHA to not have a single volume cover.
Heck, even Toga, her antagonist got one but not Ochako.
Heck, even Star and Stripes got one but not our main female lead.
Heck, even Lady Nagant got one but not Ochako.
What's worse is that it's not even bad contextually but it's just soo random that it feels like a total disrespect to the amazing TogaChako arc that this volume covered.
Tumblr media
When, I saw the TogaChako colour page, I knew we weren't getting a TogaChako battle cover, plus it also had the Todoroki family drama, and Todoroki is Hori's favourite, so he had to be included somehow, despite already getting his cover in vol 36. But seriously this is so unfair.
If we count it chapter by chapter, TogaChako arc covers 5 CHAPTERS, i.e. 391 to ch 395 making it the CENTRAL arc for volume 39!! And not only that, her Quirk Awakening happened in this Volume!! She literally saved everyone's ass in the GUNGA battlefield!! (Yeah, she did that, it's not even an argument)
When Bakugo got an awakening, he got a solo cover. When Todoroki got an origins chapter, he got a solo cover. Then why not Ochako? The main trio literally appears in almost every other cover, then why not the same respect be extended to the main female lead?
Why is the unjust only to Ochako. It's not even the first time, this is happening. It happened in vol 22 too, when she saved Deku from BlackWhip in season 5 and Everyone was on cover, excluding her.
Tumblr media
Why? Because after the layout, Hori decided it looks better without her. What a shame.
Her own solo cover, is way overdue and what's worse is that since the series is on the verge of end, we will NEVER get a solo cover for her. All hope is lost.
And that's sad because Ochako is such a good character! And when people like SnS, Lady Nagant and even Mirio get a solo cover, then why not her?
I wasn't this angry with vol 33, because the art was phenomenal...Ochako was looking absolutely stunning!! The tears in her eyes, and the microphone in hands were the absolute highlight of that cover but this?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They have some weird flag in the bg, they're sitting on that golden throne that is supposed to represent Mech AM or something....plus unlike Izuku-Chako-Iida, these three people have NEVER had a single interaction in the entire manga!! Vol 33 was about a young hero who has been overburdened with responsibility and his two best friends fighting the world to save him but vol 39?
It's meh.

Have an mha AU idea running through my head
Set for after the war
Thinking of calling it either "Project Hero"
Or "The Allegiancey"
Keep in mind I'm not fully up to date on the Manga (i have been going off of spoilers and how far I've made it in the show) but this idea felt too good to pass up.
After the war, two years to be exact, a revival quirk is going around.
Certain villains are being brought back, but they have developed still. Stain, Shigaraki, toga, compress, and a few others are brought back.
They have the same end goal as before, bring down hero society, or at least change it. Stain is admittedly not that different.
(admittedly this au has five OCS in it [only four if you don't count the one that's dead])
Main character here is a kid who is incredibly smart. He joins the hero course, but not out of desire to be a hero, but the desire to observe.
His quirk allows him to change into a snake, any kind any size and he uses it well. Eventually he runs into the revived shigaraki who is confused on the world around him.
They have a long conversation on how things are and their views.
This happens a few times, with the student occasionally listening in on info circles. He and shigaraki become acquaintances, borderline friends, and change the title over from The League of Villains, to The Allegiancey.
After the war many of the pro heros had begun to see some of the not-so pretty sides of the hero commission, particularly out of their treatment of hawks.
Hawks had disappeared out of the commissions grasp and the public eye. Pro hero's Eraserhead and Present Mic have started to rebel more and more, playing more on their own rules rather than letting the commission work heros to death, and a certain student starts to pick up on it.
The Allegiancey has it's name for a reason. It's a large alliance of former villains, civilians who want to better society, some of the new generation of heroes, and former pro heros, or rather, pro heros who want to pull away from the commission.
After the war the commission is desperate to make up for lost numbers, so they start recruiting and training civilian heros, and further more starting the process of what they had with hawks all over again, scouting out children with powerful quirks with the intention to raise them up to be weapons.
This was called Project Hero.
The student, or rather by his hero name The Observer, had been going around and watching how the heros worked, noticed the changes, and acted accordingly.
More and more heros joined The Allegiancey, soon neither villain nor hero knew who they could trust, and the began working more subtly.
Once the observer got aizawa and mic to join, more information on the project had been spilled, it wasn't just rumors anymore, they had actual evidence that it was true.
After that he formulates a plan to break into the hero commission and bust up their training equipment and steal some much needed files.
He recruits Shinso, monoma, and kuroiro Incase he gets caught so they'll still be able to pull information in.
He breaks into the commission after being given the layout by hawks, he has monoma and kuroiro with him. He breaks the equipment while they get the files.
He gets caught and sends out a signal for the others to get out, stalling the guards long enough to give them time to get away.
He gets himself arrested, being treated horribly by security and heros until they get him into a cell for interrogation and they take his mask.
Upon realizing he was a next gen hero they started being nicer to him. This is the type of thing he wanted to expose.
His good ole pall shigaraki had control of the cameras and had been broadcasting their horrible treatment all the way over to their switch and refusal to hurt him further.
He threatens the guards, acts aggressively and all they do is ask him to calm down, even when he breaks not only the table but the cuffs, only further proving his point.
He makes a move to actively attack the guards (making it look like it, he doesn't actually do it)
They don't do anything, not at first, not until he could legitimately do it if he wanted to and they detain him yet again.
They transfer him and because of the broadcast there are already plenty of reporters and civilians outside. He puts up a small amount of fighting, riling them up to show how aggressive these guards are towards villains, even if he technically wasn't one. He's only fifteen so all these people see is them hurting a child.
He doesn't really struggle that much, only by tugging slightly to be able to look around, they have a muzzle on him because of his snake features so he can't talk to the reporters but they can see how he's being treated like an animal.
They're cruel and unjust in front of all these people and his plan is working.
Eventually he gets transferred to a holding facility where he will stay for the next two years until just after he turns eighteen.
(he was already almost sixteen when he was detained)
No actual trail is held for him even though he confessed to being the Allegiancey leader and of all the different raids of hero/villain fights they'd done to get any and all injured out and cared for (regardless of being hero/villain/civilian)
They keep making excuses and try to hold him there as long as possible.
Occasionally he talks to the cameras because there's always a good chance shigaraki is listening.
And finally one day explosions and fighting can be heard. His plan had fallen into place. The hero commission wanted war so war is what he gave them.
He's broken out by none other than eraserhead and Dynamite themselves.
He quickly joins the fight
(and you can decide what to do from there)
Aaaaanndd that's all I've got aside from hyper specific scenes. Please someone if you wanna write this or draw for it then go for it, I wanna talk about it more so if you're interested pleeEassee talk to me about it.

not only does everyone have their own room but when they show the dorm layout in the manga there’s a bunch of empty floors like the whole class could’ve fit on two floors — p sure UA is a money laundering front/tax scam
bnha town is using their working class citizen’s taxes to fund UA’s absurdly luxurious standard this is why we should all support shigaraki’s dream to bomb the whole city 🎤👵🏻💗

Healing Touch
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dabi x Fem!Reader fan fiction
Synopsis: You encounter an injured Shigaraki and offer your healing quirk to his aid. Little did you know, healers were hard to come by in the underground and Shigaraki takes a liking to your skills. To further his cause, he kidnaps you and holds you captive under the watch of the LOV. You play the role of the LOV's little healer while you think of a way to escape. Unbeknownst to you, the pyromaniac with a cold heart begins to melt in your presence. Your compassion and wit draw him in, all the while he swears it's only curiosity he feels toward you. But when your touch heals his burns and your personality soothes his anguish, Dabi begins to wonder, what exactly is he feeling for you? And why the hell does he feel so torn up when you slip away?
Author's Note: I have no idea what the full layout of the original LOV bar/base was, but the Bakugo kidnapping episode showed that they keep the Nomu somewhere in the base. The AFO and All Might fight makes the building seem bigger as well. Idk, if I was a villain, I’d keep my monsters and dying mentor (AFO) behind a security door, so that nobody can snoop around. So that’s what I’m going with (also no windows because plot).
Warnings/Tags: Stockholm syndrome, eventual smut, kidnapping, female/afab reader, healing quirk
Abbreviation Guide: Y/N (your name), E/C (eye color), H/L (hair length), F/C (favorite color), S/T (skin tone or color)
Word Count: 2K
Chapter Two: Normalcy
It’s been two weeks since your arrival at the LOV base. You hate to admit that you’re acclimating, as the rebellious and angered side of you sees this as giving up. To quell that rage in you, you remind yourself that you haven’t fully accepted the role thrust upon you. You’re just playing along. Somehow, you know you’ll escape. They can’t watch you forever, one of these days they’ll slip up.
You’ve been taking this time to observe your surroundings and familiarize yourself with everyone’s patterns. If you’re lucky, maybe your watchful eyes will catch a slip in the chain. You’ve observed that some of the members stay at the base full-time, while others trickle in as need be. Toga, Tomura, Twice, and Dabi stay on site, except for missions and personal errands. Kurogiri is practically a piece of furniture in the base, seldom leaving and always attending to either Shigaraki or the bar.
Everyone keeps a close eye on you, particularly Toga and Twice. Toga is much more “hands-on” with her approach, choosing to follow you and pester you, with either affection or questions, wherever you wander.  She frequently asks you about crushes, relationships, and blood. You want to think of her as a little sister given her age and her adoration for you, but the danger and bloodlust that lurks in her eyes make you wary of letting your guard down. Toga’s persistence is a significant roadblock in fabricating an escape plan for you.
What you have noticed while under Toga’s gaze is that there’s an entire wing of the building you have not seen. Sometimes, you’ll see Tomura disappear through a set of doors guarded by a passcode. You think you’ve seen glimpses of light coming through a window when Tomura goes through and the doors are briefly open before shutting once more. It’s hard to know for sure, it’s not like you could get through without a code anyways. Something tells you that you don’t want to know what’s through those doors, though. The wing has a strange smell, reminiscent of a hospital.
Trying to break into the unknown wing seems like a bad idea, but there’s nowhere else you can escape from. You haven’t been able to locate a window that isn’t inaccessible or barred, nor have you been able to find an exit that is unlocked. However, even if you did find either of those things, the constant surveillance by the others makes it nearly impossible to escape. You reason your best bet is still to bide your time. Thankfully, it’s not too tortuous to go along with everything. You mostly find yourself bored or annoyed.
You’ve been occupying most of your mind lately by observing everyone. You need to predict the villains if you still hope to escape. Of course, that’s easier said than done for some members. Toga, Twice, Shigaraki, and Kurogiri speak their minds freely, so it’s easier to understand them. Mr.Compress is slightly on the reserved side and seems to be a bit of a strategist, but what makes him easier to analyze is his lack of impulses and instability. Dabi, on the other hand, is a complete wild card to you. He’s somewhat quiet, but when he does decide to speak, his words are ladened with sarcasm or insults. Dabi is by far the most frequently injured out of all of them, yet he barely shows any signs of pain. It surprised you that despite his wounds, he hadn’t approached you yet. He just regarded you with lazy eyes, gazing at you silently. He seemed distant from the other members, often choosing to wander the streets in search of new recruits instead. You guess that he is neither very convincing nor friendly given the state of his body after his outings. He smelled of ash each time. Regardless of his quirk’s effects on him, Dabi continued to use it anyways. You reason that continuously burning yourself takes a considerable amount of dedication and tolerance to pain. He’s driven, for sure, but to what?
It’s an interesting question, but you’re pulled out of your thoughts before you can mull it over. The bar door clicks, the telltale sound of the lock turning. Through the door comes Dabi, and along with him is the smell of ash. He’s quiet, but so is the bar. Wait, how long has it been quiet? You realize that it’s just you and him in the bar. You would silently curse yourself for letting the opportunity escape you, but you’re thankful you were distracted. Nothing good would come to you, had you seized the moment and attempted to bolt. With Dabi being just outside the door, you were saved by your thoughts.
He seems to sense your staring, as his eyes meet yours. You try to suppress the way you feel when his intense gaze bores into you. There’s a glint of surprise in his eyes. “‘M surprised they left you down here alone. Unless… were you cooking up an escape plan?” He interrogates.
“I guess even wardens need breaks. Not like I could go anywhere though, the doors are locked,” you admit. You rest your face in your palm and entertain yourself by tracing your fingers around the rim of a glass left on the bar top. “Besides, you’re here now. Your quirk has range over me.”
Your words take him a bit by surprise. You’re smarter than he initially gave you credit for, not that he thought you were stupid before. It’s just that he only really saw the feistier side of you. With how you barked back at Tomura, he thought you’d be the type to make rash choices. Instead, he’s having a hard time predicting you. The things you say and do surprise him. While Toga and Twice crowd around you, he observes you from a distance. He convinces himself it’s necessary to figure you out.
You feel him staring at you again. He seems lost in thought. His staring makes you uneasy and the silence feels strange. You decide to joke around with him, to see if it lightens up the mood or if it creates more tension. Seeing his reactions could lead you to predict him more accurately in the future. “I know it’s called head-hunting but something tells me you’re taking that expression too literally,” you comment, referencing his habit of coming back with burned hands.
“Oh yeah? What’s got you thinking that?” He banters back.
You shoot him a sly smile, “Just noticed your recruitment process involves a lot of fresh burns, is all.” Usually, Dabi would have killed people for less, joke or not. For some reason, it’s different with you. Perhaps it’s because even with your situation as a captive, you still don’t seem fearful of him. He wants to test that.
“Hazards of the job I guess,” he shrugs. You only hum in acknowledgment. “Mind taking care of them for me?” Your eyebrows shoot up a bit at his question. The tables have turned and now it’s your turn to be surprised.
“Yeah, I can do that,” you comply. You slide off the barstool and approach him. “Do you have any other injuries besides the burns?”
“Might be a staple or two loose,” he mentioned.
“Tomura gave me a first aid kit and medical supplies, I think there are medical staples too. They’re in my room. Do you want me to lug all that down here or…” You say, trailing off at the end in a question.
“There’s no point, it’ll be quick,” he declines. He gestures to you and the stairs. “Lead the way.”
You nod. His thick boots make distinctive footfalls while walking behind you. You try to memorize the way they sound, in case it becomes important later. Your attention is focused on his steps, so the two of you arrive at your door in silence. You open the door and cross the threshold of the doorway. He hovers at the entrance. He realizes this is the first time he’s really been in a girl’s room before, but he’s totally not the slightest bit antsy about it. He didn’t even enter your room when he first questioned you about your quirk. Now that all of your things are unpacked, it just feels so much more… Intimate?
“I don’t have much in the seating department so just sit on the bed or something,” you instruct. Your back is to him as you gather the supplies together. He tentatively enters and sits on the made bed. The mattress creaks, the sound partially muffled under the thick comforter. He’s not sure what to do with his hands, so he makes himself look busy by fiddling with the staples. You must have found everything you needed as he notices you setting down a box of first aid supplies next to him. You stand in front of him and reach for his hands. Your touch is soft and gentle as you observe his injuries. It throws him off, honestly. You’re aware of his disastrous quirk and you have an idea of what he does, yet your touch makes him feel like he’s made of glass. He expected you to be rough with him, taking out your anger at your circumstances onto him. After all, you’d still be getting the job done, just in a spiteful way. What’s stopping you from doing so? Is it fear that’s making you gentle on him?
You start cleaning his burns and his loose staples, carefully gliding a wet cotton ball over the area. For good measure, you wipe down the skin of your hands with an alcohol swab. Your quirk doesn’t do much against infection after all. Finding out how Tomura would react, should something like that happen on your watch, doesn’t sound appealing either. You whisper out a ‘sorry’ after you fix the loose staples. It looks like it should hurt, but Dabi doesn’t react much. You figure he must have a high pain tolerance.
You clasp your hands around one of his. Your skin glows and becomes icy once you activate your quirk. The coolness of your skin should be relieving, but he can’t seem to enjoy it. The question is nagging him. Fuck it, he decides he can just ask you directly. “Are you afraid of me?” You tear your attention away from his hands. Your e/c eyes meet his. There’s a look of confusion in them, as to you, this question comes from nowhere.
“No..?” You answer. Your voice is a bit wobbly with suspicion. “Why? Are you going to give me a reason to be?”
He’s dumbfounded by you. If you weren’t afraid of him, you had to be either stupid or crazy. It has to be the latter, because why else would you be treating him gently? “Did Tomura pick you up at an insane asylum?”
“Did I look like I was wearing a straight jacket when he brought me here? What gives with these questions anyways?”
“You’ve gotta be crazy or stupid to not be afraid of villains like us.”
“So that’s what this is about? You’re upset that I’m not scared of you?”
“I’m not upset. It’s just weird.”
“Okay look, Tomura wants my quirk and my compliance, I want to live. The way I see it, no harm’s gonna come to me so long as I heal you guys. That’s why I’m not wallowing in fear,” you defend. “Is thinking that really so crazy?”
He contemplates your words and you switch off to heal his other hand. “One look is all it takes for normal people to fear me,” he says. You can’t tell if he’s hurt by this, or proud of it.
“Well, your appearance doesn’t scare me,” you admit. There’s a faraway look in his eyes.
“That’s why you aren’t normal.”
