Do you ship Neji with anyone?

Hehe. I answered this once but I'll definitely talk more on it. I love Shikamaru/Neji, and considering I published fic for them as recently as of 2021 those feelings are still going strong. Generally I prefer my ships to have a little more, er, content, but they captured my imagination so what can I say ...

If my followers will forgive me for getting indulgent for a spell, there's something very charming about how, in the Sasuke Retrieval Arc, Neji is keeping up with Shikamaru.

When they're trapped by Jirobo, Neji seems a little surprised by Shikamaru's false surrender, but keeps quiet. Now he's not a loudmouth like Kiba and Naruto, but he's also not shy about speaking his mind. However, between his own observational skills, a likely respect for the command structure, and Choji's words, he doesn't interfere. He's then right in step with Shikamaru and Choji when the plan starts.

Neji then explains that he observed everything Shikamaru did (that the prison recovered from Kiba's attacks at different rates) and why Shikamaru spoke to the enemy and so on. We expect Choji to work well with Shikamaru 'cause they're besties, but Neji was essentially a stranger to them and he's right there with them because he can get why Shikamaru does what Shikamaru does.

When they break free, Neji briefly assumes command to stop Kiba and Naruto from attacking while Shikamaru is busy thinking of another solution. Shikamaru names Neji his second-in-command -- and I know it didn't come up earlier because it wasn't relevant to the story, but in a more Watsonian perspective, it seems like Shikamaru should have done this at mission start. Neji is the shinobi with the most experience there. So did Shikamaru just assume they wouldn't have to split up or he wouldn't die (optimistic) or would he prefer to evaluate someone's leadership potential before trusting the lives of his buddies to them? I'm more inclined to believe the latter.

From all this we gather that they're both intelligent, observant people who quickly gain a mutual respect of each other when asked to work together. I happen to be a big fan of relationships between people who are both strong-willed and opinionated leader types. Yes, they can clash, but so long as they're respectful of each other there's so much potential for an interesting dynamic to explore.

They're also both lowkey people with compatible lowkey hobbies (cloud gazing & bird watching, napping & meditating) who I think could just relax together, though Neji's got a more active personality to keep some of that spark and spice. Neji needs some relaxation in his life ... Shikamaru can be very tender and emotionally intelligent if he feels like it, and Neji could use that too. What does Shikamaru need? Someone who is unafraid to challenge him, haha.

In fact, figuring out what Shikamaru wants (answer: a hardass with a nice smile) is easy because we see it in canon, but what about Neji? That, my friends, is a separate post I will make because I get very sidetracked from just gushing about my little rarepair.

Thank you for the question! ♥ In the end, I stand by my opinion that so long as Neji is getting some love all's fair! short answer: yeah, i can get behind that. if certain canon events didn’t happen as they did, i could actually see this being plausible.

long answer: i have been thinking about nejitema a lot. they’re a rarepair that there’s not a ton of content featuring, for better and for worse — i like that my interpretation of them isn’t colored by anyone else’s, but i also wish i had *some* frame of reference for what their relationship would look like.

(extra long answer: i’ve specifically been thinking about them together in the context of the shikanejitematen fic i’ve been wanting to write. i’ll admit shikaten has given me an easier time than nejitema thus far, and tematen and shikaneji are incredibly fun. realistically, the next thing i publish will be shikatema so i can convince myself i know their characters before i dive too far into self indulgent territory!!)

hi everyone :) its been a moment since ive been on here, but ive certainly not forgotten it. i've been v busy and life picked up since the pandemic, which was the time i got back into writing, into fic in general, and i really miss that feeling bc god knows its definitely not 2020 any more. very odd. but that does bring me to my next steps, because i miss this blog, and i miss writing, a lot. so, house keeping notes:

i miss this blog but i feel like i want something that feels lighter, so i've officially moved over to @daizedream which is now my writing blog. it's not primarily 18+ content but i obviously do write content like that from time to time, so i ask that you follow and interact only if you're 18+. thank you!!

that means my ao3 is now also changed names, and you can find me there as daizedream ~ links from my posts are now broken because of that, but we are the same ppl and is confirmed in ao3 bios.

i have written a handful of things over the past two-ish years, but i havent yet started on some passion projects that have been sitting in my brain for a good near-3 years now, and im happy to say im going to be working on those soon :>

ive written for a lot of niche and rare pairs/ideas/etc and i really appreciated the support and the sense of community that came from those stories, so im actually really excited to say that i have a lot of ideas for those niche/rare pairs, and im planning on writing and completing them next year ~ shikaneji lives rent free in my head and it's been way too long since they've made it out of my head. i have a little fandom list on my other blog tho so i'll be writing for those fandoms too

i am on break now bc im back in school, so it's going to be a bit slow going next year for some projects, esp the big chaptered one that needs planning, but i am hopeful and excited for the short stories/oneshots that i wanna work on and share. school and work dictate the pace of these things, im afraid, so i cant guarantee consistancy

anyways, this is really long and i had to blow off the dust on this blog to even use it but if youve read this far then thank u very much, it means a lot to me, and i wanted to update because i really do miss the community and the writing and the indulgence of way back when, and i just wanted to pop back in and say it. thanks! happy holidays! and please stay warm, its a cold one this winter ~

I hadn't really paid attention to WHO was on my dash right? So I do the poll you reblogged and vaguely recalled seeing other lotr/Tolkien posts you might have done that I liked. Im staring at your name AwayLaughing because it scratched at a DEEP old memory of a fanfic writer who wrote my favorite ShikaNeji stories literally almost a decade ago! Dis you??! All the Days that Have Passed? ShikaNeji the tiny but mighty Naruto ship? I feel like a core memory has been unlocked and I gotta go check ao3!

Hi yes that is me! I am indeed the author of All the Days that Have Passed, and I don't recall how many pre-2014 Tolkien docs I have off the top of my head but it's much less than I have now!

I am indeed still writing in the Tolkien universe, and I'm not fully out of Naruto but it's definitely not my priority these days. There are a few ShikaNeji projects I might one day wrap up and post, who knows. Regardless, I hope you find stuff you like if you do go spelunking over on AO3.

Ok, I'll admit that I am pretty much skipping all non-shikaneji moments in this reread of the Break to Breathe series, and I know I'm gonna regret it because I distinctly remember in the last part of the series the Yamanaka OC made me ugly cry and it was all because the author was building up the storyline since the beginning to a perfect peak.

Anyway the shikaneji in this fic is killing me softly, the yearning...

I have such scattered memories of the last part of the fic (tbf I have very little memory of the middle fics) so it's been fun to revisit.

Now it's on to the epilogue of the second to last fic and then on the very last 500k+ behemoth lol.

Como a ADM aqui é a louca das Weeks e sempre pego as gringas, vamos fazer uma 100% brazuca (até onde sei), feita totalmente por mim.

Evento irá acontecer a partir de 15 a 21 de janeiro. Cada dia, três temas para sua escolha para escrever. Não precisa escrever para todos os dias, muito menos todos os temas. Se tivermos uma de cada ficwriter, será um sucesso!

✅As betagens e capas deverão ser pedidas com antecedência, para que a postagem possa ser feita no dia correto, ou seja, 15 dias antes no máximo, até dia 01/01/2024 para as que serão postadas no dia 15 e assim por diante.
