From photo cards to video art installations, a tour through a recent exhibition showcasing K-pop fans’ communal creativity and cross-cultural exchanges.

This piece is a bit of a departure for us—rather than our standard fandom reporting or analysis, this is an expanded version of a fannish art exhibition, complete with images, videos, and excerpts from the K-pop fans and artists whose work was featured in the show. The co-curators, Rea and Bo, are both BTS fans, so they write about that position as both fans and curators as well.

By highlighting the creativity, passion, and collaborative spirit of K-pop fans, I came to ruin you recognized fans’ roles as cultural producers. Their collecting practices intersect with and challenge traditional art forms, transforming what might otherwise be considered ephemeral or niche into meaningful cultural expressions.

As someone who loves Transformers, I love seeing mechanical things shift their parts to do something cool. This sequence in Shin Kamen Rider was probably my favorite part of the movie. I know plenty GIFs of this part exist already but they didn't have it at the quality, frame rate, or length I wanted exactly. Also, I edited the cut for the 2nd GIF so that the scarf tightening shot and the helmet henshin are played in sequence, even though the motorcycle transformation shots played out in between those. Not to mention, I need these GIFs to be relatively light on the file size so I can keep them around or under the 8mb size limit in case I need to upload them to Discord for whatever reason instead of using an image embed.

I was having so much trouble drawing transformers but I drew Mechagodzilla once and suddenly it just clicked. I think the giant robots and kaiju should be friends.

Also planning to make a bunch of sticker designs of kaiju and random transformers. Already have a bunch of ideas for combos, too many honestly considering how far behind I am with the idea.

idk why I drew shin Godzilla so weirdly, but the idea of the Japanese military enlisting Optimus to help kill Godzilla is funny to me.
