On Being a Dork
This morning, I’ve been thinking about grasping for joy. How important it is, especially with the *gestures at the world* everything.
I tend to be an effusive human. Part of that is simply who I am. And part of it is that I know we need to hear the good things more often than we usually do. So, I’m shouty and vocal, and I’m good with that.
Because what we have, in this mad world, is each other. And if we are holding back because of how it might look or a litany of other fears, then we’ll gain exactly nothing. But if we do the opposite and offer that joy, out loud, to the universe—we gain everything.
I fully and entirely believe in being a wholehearted dork. There was a time where I was less out loud about it, because…of reasons. Namely, someone made me very bad about how much I cared. It took me a long time to work through that particular gift of darkness and put it aside as not mine.
There are times where I still wonder if I am too much. But when looking at a situation or a moment or a truth and trying to decide what I say or don’t say, I’m never going to play it cool. If I like you, I like you. If I just had the best taco of my life, I’m gonna do tap dance of joy. If I think you’re attractive, I’m gonna let you know it. Or try to. I’m still mildly awkward on occasion.
Point is, life is short and weird. Do you like something or someone? Don’t do it quietly.
Because too often, we badly need to hear that kind of thing. We need to know that someone likes us just as we are (shoutout to Bridget Jones) or that there was a cool sunset or fireflies or random cat. Connection and shared joy don’t eradicate the bad things. But they ease the ache and the dark of it. And I swear to java, the time to play it cool is never.
There are people in this world who think I am too much. Those are not my people. I am always going to get over my own insecurity and do and say the thing. Because what if it matters? There’s always only one way to find out.
So, that’s my lesson for today: grasp for joy, even now. Maybe especially now.

Us map editor
Tumblr media
#Us map editor update
#Us map editor download
#Us map editor mac
#Us map editor windows
This became an apparent necessity as I noticed some users had their playerPrefs in their steam folder and some didn't.This includes a file search, checking all your drives for the file.(Fixes a semi big bug though)Ĭhanged the way the playerPrefs file is found, now checks multiple locations Note: It says pre-release as I took the screenshot before I released this version
#Us map editor update
Update checker can now show a changelog or other messages contained in the version file.
Changed the File Chooser to show hidden files.
The pet displayer has been made larger for more visibility of said pets.
The window title will now change if you're using a pre-release or outdated version.
Shifted the hat displayer 5 pixels to the left, this makes it look more centered on average I believe.
Changed what activates the warning, it now only occurs on save not when you select it.
Changed the warning to more thoroughly express what issues will occur when using Fortegreen.
#Us map editor windows
Update checker now called after windows is made visible (I just felt like it was better this way).
These offsets are located in the src/club/koupah/amongus/editor/gui/settings/cosmetics/hats.java file, if you make a pull request with more offsets that'll make my life so much easier and I'll happily credit you!Ĭreated AUEMain class (Among Us Editor Main).
Some hats now have custom offsets so they look the same in the GUI as ingame!.
I would GREATLY appreciate anyone on a non-windows machine who could message me and give me feedback on how I can make the program any better for people using that operating system
With the changes of the showing hidden files, the file chooser with the config and other changes I made before this release, this application should now fully work on Linux/Mac systems.
Preferences tab, currently only preference is the look of the GUI but more will be added soon!.
Change your cosmetics easily without needing to take more than a seconds glance.
You no longer have to look at settings that don't interest you!.
Join us today! (Windows) GUI as of this update
#Us map editor mac
Linux & Mac fixes along with numerous UI fixesīig thank you to ALL of the discord members, everyone in the discord gets access to prereleases and they've had these features for weeks.
There has been NUMEROUS bug fixes and I want to say a massive thank you to the testers in the discord.
I only recommend using it with you're having issues launching the editor.
Theres now an optional Launcher for if you're having issues launching the Editor.
You can also make your OWN theme and choose what colors it uses!.
Theres now many themes such as Light & Dark mode and even RGB themes with customizable speeds.
Create a profile, save it and then share it with others in the discord or anywhere else!.
You can now save your cosmetic configurations and share them with others.
Note: It says prerelease as I took the screenshot before I released this version The discord members also have had access to these features for weeks, so if you'd like early access to stuff join now! Huge shoutout to the discord members, they've helped me fix numerous bugs and issues with the editor!
I can't remember all the changes I've made but there was lots of smaller ones.
Discord Rich Presence! This can be toggled off in the preferences tab.
There is also a warning system for when things are patched/don't work, so I can warn you ahead of time!.
#Us map editor download
This version still requires Java, however running it without Java will just take you to the Java download.
With the use of Launch4J, I can now supply an executable version of the editor.
I can add these dynamically so if you'd like one (yours?) added, contact me.
You can now play on custom servers, like, which allow for custom gamemodes.
Amount of wins, games played, Impostor streak etc can all be changed.
Things like negative speed are possible, causing you to walk in reverse.
Change Kill Cooldown, Player Speed, Task Count etc to complete custom values.

Credit:• @forgoodcode HTML tags and properties you should know in 2021! HTML and CSS are quite powerful and you can build fantastic websites by using just the two. However, despite the heavy usage of these two languages, many developers don’t really dive deep and fun with these. There are a lot of such tips and tricks besides the few which I have shared above and surely they are worth trying out in your project. Let me know if this was helpful! Michelle and Derek
This week we are honored to introduce Michelle Ubowski and Derek Kreider. This beautiful couple tied the knot on April 13th, 2019. They celebrated with friends and family at The Arbor Loft in downtown Rochester, NY. Photographed by Jill Studio Photography. Florals by I Do Wedding Flowers. Michelle and Derek are both RIT graduates, where they met back in 2009. After 10 years of love and friendship, Derek popped the question back where it all began.
Tumblr media
“ As were passing by our alma mater, RIT, Derek mentions he needs a bathroom break and gets us to pull over. After disappearing for a couple minutes, he returns to the car and urges me to get out and take a look at campus since we hadn’t been there in so long. It was a snowstorm in the middle of February and I was in flats, so I protested but finally gave up and went out with him. Next thing I know, we’re at the “whisper wall” bench where we met. We reminisced for a bit and when I turned around to leave he was on one knee!”
Tumblr media
We asked Michelle to tell us her favorite memory from her wedding day, she expressed it was so hard to choose just one!
“ The entire day felt like a dream! From getting ready with my best friends while drinking coffee from one of my favorite shops (shoutout to Java’s!), our first look at the Memorial Art Gallery, feeling like a celebrity taking photos, walking down the aisle, exchanging the vows we wrote ourselves...”
She goes on to say that a highlight for her was her celebratory sparkler send off, which was a last minute decisions. Surrounded by family and friends, it was the most magical way to end the perfect day.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“ This is just the beginning. We have a whole lot of life left to explore, and I get to have my favorite person along for the ride.”
A special thanks to Michelle and Derek for letting us share their love story this week. We hope you have had the most wonderful first year of marriage and wish you every blessing on your journey together!

ENFPs and Coding!
shoutout to @riipeplum for this!
Tumblr media
Why should ENFPs learn to code?
universal application: you can code apps and websites for anything! finance, environment, art! coding is not restricted to science-y stuff and what matters is what you bring to the table
outlet for creativity: think of code as paint and the world as your canvas You are only restricted by your imagination!
impact, impact, impact: we live in the Era of the Computer and we are more connected than ever! everything you do has more global impact than you can imagine!
no two days are the same: we’re always on our toes, always learning because the world we live in is constantly changing!
Being a programmer is the ideal career for ENFPs because it satisfies all our needs for creativity, spontaneity, helping others and doing important things that match with our values
BUT I cannot stress one thing enough: coding has universal application so whether  you’re a counsellor, an environmentalist, a musician, a law student, a waiter or a bartender please consider learning to code as well. what you bring to the table matters because your experience helps you recognize and solve problems that a stereotypical engineer might not even understand (examples: fire chief makes app that helps off-duty trained specialists know if someone just has a cardiac arrest near them)
So, where do you start?
Start with learning how to make ANDROID APPS!
The following is a list of courses that need be taken after one after another and GUESS WHO IS TEACHING THEM?
Tumblr media
You’ll be learning how to make apps from the best! And keep in mind: NO fancy math experience and NO prior coding experience needed! Heck, even middle schoolers can start learning from this! and its FREE (ignore the offer to pay to get a Nanodegree, that’s not needed)
Step 1: Android Basics:
Android Basics: User Interface
Android Basics: User Input
Android Basics: Multiple App Screens
Android Basics: Networking
Android Basics: Data Storage
Step 2: UX Design for Mobile Developers
Step 3: Git and Github
Step 4: Developing Android Apps
Step 5:  Add services to Google Apps:
Location and Activity
Google Analytics and Tag Manager
Google Maps
Display Ads with adMob
Step 6:  Advanced Android
Step 7: Android Performance
Step 8: Gradle for Android and Java
Step 9: Firebase in a Weekend
Step 10: Material Design
Step 11: Apps that run everywhere:
TV and Google Cast
Android Wear
Cars
Message me know if any of the links don’t work! I’ll make a more general post that can be shared with the general public :D
Happy coding!

i started Viper as my project. something for me. a what if scenario for myself to test out the Dad!Stain idea that ive had for a while. then you all came in droves and it became more than just a small project for me anymore. the reception I got was overwhelming. i love the energy you all brought to the comments. i love the notes and tags you all put in the bookmarks (cuz i read that and it makes me smile). i love the enthusiasm yall have when reading and it makes me. so. damn. happy!!!

I almost died but “Fuckhands McMike” was worth it. hope you don’t mind me usin that
shoutout to Kisana for bringing consistent commentary that helps me in my writing
shoutout to eldritchcore for giving me the idea that Izuku should have a snake. spoilers. i am absolutely giving him a snake
again. shoutout to Princess_Crystal because you are just a treasure. you always give me such nice comments and I die every time.

shoutout to everyone who commented.
shoutout to everyone who bookmarked.
shoutout to everyone who gave kudos.
shoutout to everyone who took the time to read and support Viper.
again, i know that p much no one who reads Viper follows me, so i can say this without feeling like a cliche.
thank you. so much. i say that before and after every chapter, but i mean every word every time. all of your comments and encouragements and reactions mean so much to me. i never thought Viper would be for anyone but myself. it was always just me exploring ideas, trying new things, putting my mind at work and the response is overwhelming. the one-shots were never planned. half the shit i now have in my notebook was never planned.
all of your support inspired me. i would never have been able to write in one universe so consistently without your feedback and encouragement. before, i had to go on the ao3 website and check the things i publish to reference Viper. now i just have to google "viper ao3″ and it pops up. on. the. front. page.
none of this would have been possible without you and i am just so so grateful that you took time out of your day to support me. i hope that you all enjoyed the ride so far, and i hope that you’ll stay with me until the end of the line. i’ll do my best to update more consistently and frequently.
again, i keep saying this every chapter, but thank you.
yall are the real heroes here

The Node.js Community was amazing in 2017! Here's the proof:
Let me just start by stating this:
2017 was a great year for the Node.js Community!
Our favorite platform has finally matured to be widely adopted in the enterprise, also, a lot of great features have been merged into the core, like async/await & http2, just to mention a few.
The world runs on node ✨🐢✨ #NodeInteractive http://pic.twitter.com/5PwDC2w1mE
— Franziska Hinkelmann (@fhinkel) October 4, 2017
Not only the developers who contribute to Node make this platform so great, but those who create learning materials around it were also exceptional.
In our final article of 2017, we collected a bunch of longreads which were created by the Node community. We used data from Reddit, Hacker News, Twitter & Medium to search for the most read, most shared & liked stuff out there. We intentionally omitted articles written by RisingStack (except 1, couldn't resist) - if you're interested in those, please visit our top15 of 2017 post!
I'm sure we left a bunch of amazing articles out - so if you'd like to get attention to an exceptional one you read, please let us know in the comments section.
Also, keep in mind that this post is not a classic "best of" list, just a collection that shows how amazing the Node community was in 2017! I figured that a big shoutout to the developers who constantly advocate & teach Node would be a great way to say goodbye to this year.
So, here come the proof I promised in the title:
1. We have insanely useful community curated lists:
If you'd like to gain useful knowledge quickly, you can count on the Node community. These lists were created in 2017, and contain so much best practices & shortcuts that you can definitely level up your skills by going through them.
The largest Node.JS best practices list is curated from the top ranked articles and always updated.
Awesome Node.js is an extensive list of delightful Node packages & resources.
The Modern JS Cheatsheet contains knwledge needed to build modern projects.
These lists have over 300 contributors & gained around 50K stars on GitHub!
Also, we recommend to check out these articles written by Yoni Goldberg & Azat Mardan which will help you to become a better developer:
Node.JS production best practices
10 Node.js Best Practices: Enlightenment from the Node Gurus
2. There are actually insightful Case Studies available!
One of the best articles on using Node.js was written by Scott Nonnenberg in April. The author summarized his Node experiences from the past 5 years, discussing basic concepts, architectural issues, testing, the Node ecosystem & the reason why you shouldn't use New Relic.
"I’ve already shared a few stories, but this time I wanted to focus on the ones I learned the hard way. Bugs, challenges, surprises, and the lessons you can apply to your own projects!" - Scott
..
Also, did you know that Node.js Helps NASA to Keep Astronauts Safe? It's hard to come up with something cooler than that.
NASA choose Node.js for the following reasons:
The relative ease of developing data transfer applications with JavaScript, and the familiarity across the organization with the programming language, which keeps development time and costs low.
Node.js’ asynchronous event loop for I/O operations makes it the perfect solution for a cloudbased database system that sees queries from dozens of users who need data immediately.
The Node.js package manager, npm, pairs incredibly well with Docker to create a microservices architecture that allows each API, function and application to operate smoothly and independently.
To learn more, read the full case study!
Also, shoutout to the Node Foundation who started to assemble and distribute these pretty interesting use-case whitepapers on a regular basis!
3. Node.js Authentication & Security was well covered in 2017:
When it comes to building Node.js apps (or any app..) security is crucial to get right. This is the reason why "Your Node.js authentication tutorial is (probably) wrong" written by micaksica got so much attention on HackerNoon.
tl;dr: The author went on a search of Node.js/Express.js authentication tutorials. All of them were incomplete or made a security mistake in some way that can potentially hurt new users. His post explores some common authentication pitfalls, how to avoid them, and what to do to help yourself when your tutorials don’t help you anymore.
If you plan on reading only one security related article (..but why would you do that?!), this is definitely one of the best ones!
..
Also, we recommend to check out the Damn Vulnerable NodeJS Application github page, which aims to demonstrate the OWASP Top 10 Vulnerabilities and guides you on fixing and avoiding these vulnerabilities.
..
Other great articles which were receiving a lot of praise were Securing Node.js RESTful APIs with JSON Web Tokens by Adnan Rahic, and Two-Factor Authentication with Node.js from David Walsh.
4. API development with Node.js has been made even more easy:
One of the main strengths of Node.js is that you can build REST APIs with it in a very efficient way! There are a lot of articles covering that topic, but these were definitely the most popular ones:
RESTful API design with Node.js walks beginners through the whole process in a very thorough, easy to understand way.
Build a Node.js API in Under 30 Minutes achieves the same result, but it uses ES6 as well.
10 Best Practices for Writing Node.js REST APIs (written by us) goes a little further and includes topics like naming your routes, authentication, black-box testing & using proper cache headers for these resources.
5. We're constantly looking under the hood of Node.js.
Luckily, the Node/JS community delivers when you want to go deeper, in fact there were so many interesting deep-dives that it was really hard to pick out the best ones, but one can try! These articles are really insightful:
Understanding Node.js Event-Driven Architecture
What you should know to really understand the Node.js Event Loop
Node.js Streams: Everything you need to know
How JavaScript works: inside the V8 engine + 5 tips on how to write optimized code
ES8 was Released and here are its Main New Features
6 Reasons Why JavaScript’s Async/Await Blows Promises Away (Tutorial)
What were the best articles that peeked under the hood of JS/Node in your opinion? Share them in the comments!
6. Awesome new Tools were made in 2017:
Two of the most hyped tools of the year were Prettier & Fastify!
In case you don't know, prettier is a JavaScript formatter that works by compiling your code to an AST, and then pretty-printing the AST.
The result is good-looking code that is completely consistent no matter who wrote it. This solves the problem of programmers spending a lot of time manually moving around code in their editor and arguing about styles.
Fastify was introduced by Matteo Collina, Node.js core technical commitee member during Node Interactive 2017 in Vancouver.
Fastify is a new web framework inspired by Hapi, Restify and Express. Fastify is built as a general-purpose web framework, but it shines when building extremely fast HTTP APIs that use JSON as the data format.
..just to mention a few.
7. There are Amazing Crash Courses Available for Free
If you'd like to start learning Node, you can count on the commmunity to deliver free, high-quality resources that can speed up your journey!
One particular author - Adnan Rahić - received a huge amount of praise for releasing crash courses for different topics on Medium. Here they are:
A crash course on testing with Node.js
A crash course on Serverless with Node.js
We hope Adnan will continue this series and create crash courses on other areas of Node as well!
8. Miscallaneus Topics are Covered as Well
What do we mean under miscallaneus topics? Well, those are topics that go beyond the "traditional" use cases of Node.js, where the authors describe something interesting & fun they built with it.
For example there were exceptional articles released that used the OpenCV library for either face recognition or just regular object recognition.
Chatbots were a hype topic too, and there was no shortage of blogposts describing how to build them using different languages.
Building A Simple AI Chatbot With Web Speech API And Node.js was one of the most praised articles. In this post Tomomi Imura walked us through building a chat-bot which can be controlled by voice. Yep, it's pretty cool.
We also recommend to check out Developing A Chatbot Using Microsoft's Bot Framework, LUIS And Node.js too, which is the first part of a series dealing with the topic.
What other fun projects did you see? Add them to the comments section!
9. The community can attend great conferences, like Node Interactive!
Node Interactive Vancouver was a major event which provided great opportunities for it's attendees to meet with fellow developers & learn a lot about their favorite subject.
Fortunately every prezentation is available on YouTube, so you can get up-to-date even if you couldn't participate this year (just like us.)
The 10 most watched right now are:
Node.js Performance and Highly Scalable Micro-Services by Chris Bailey
New DevTools Features for JavaScript by Yang Guo
The V8 Engine and Node.js by Franzi Hinkelmann
High Performance JS in V8 by Peter Marshall
The Node.js Event Loop: Not So Single Threaded by Bryan Hughes
Welcome and Node.js Update by Mark Hinkle
Take Your HTTP Server to Ludicrous Speed by Matteo Collina
WebAssembly and the Future of the Web by Athan Reines
High Performance Apps with JavaScript and Rust by Amir Yasin
TypeScript - A Love Tale with JavaScript by Bowden Kelly
Of course this list is just the tip of the iceberg, since there are 54 videos upladed on the Node Foundations' YouTube channel, and most of them are really insightful and fun to watch.
10. Node.js is finally more sought after than Java!
Although Ryan Dahl recently stated in an interview that..
for a certain class of application, which is like, if you're building a server, I can't imagine using anything other than Go.
.. we have no reason to doubt the success of Node.js!
Mikeal Rogers, one of the core organizers of NodeConf, community manager & core contributor at the Node Foundation stated that Node.js will overtake Java within a year in a NewStack interview this summer!
We are now at about 8 million estimated users and still growing at about 100 percent a year. We haven’t passed Java in terms of users yet, but by this time next year at the current growth, we will surpass. - Mikeal.
Mikeal is not alone with his opinion. There is hard data available to prove that Node is becoming more sought after than Java.
According to the data gathered by builtinnode, the demand for Node.js developers has already surpassed the demand for Java devs by the summer of 2017 in the Who is Hiring section of Hacker News!
Since Node was already adopted and is being advocated by the greatest tech companies on Earth, there's no doubt that it will remain a leading technology for many years ahead!
We hope that the Node community will continue to thrive in 2018 as well, and produce a plethora of exellent tools & tutorials.
At RisingStack, we'll keep on advocating & educating Node in 2018 as well, for sure! If you're interested in the best content we produced in 2017, take a look!

The world runs on node ✨🐢🚀✨ #NodeInteractive http://pic.twitter.com/5PwDC2w1mE
— Franziska Hinkelmann (@fhinkel) October 4, 2017
