random haikyuu!! headcanons

Hinata loves learning languages. It gets to the point that if a friend has to learn a language, he will try learning it with them so they have someone to work on it with. (That's what he says. He's actually just excited to have an excuse to learn a new language.)

Oikawa falls in love with random people all the time. At the cinema, the supermarket, restaurants, literally anywhere. He will either think about them for a couple hours or years. (He also never speaks to any of them.)

Akaashi reads so much shoujo manga. It's a stress reliever and it's fun watching how the formula will play out. He sees it as a guilty pleasure, but he will also admit it without fear.

Atsumu has read everything Rick Riordan has written. He's read Percy Jackson and the Olympians series over 10 times. He's anxiously waiting for the show to come out and loves the casting. Osamu hasn't read any of the books, but basically knows what happened because of Atsumu's in-depth summary/analysis on it.

Osamu has read the entire The Hunger Games series at least five times. Catching Fire is his favorite movie, but Mockingjay is his favorite book. Atsumu has only watched the movies and convinced Osamu to play The Hunger Games movie at Osamu's restaurant one day since it was off season for volleyball.

Tsukishima forced Yamaguchi to sit through dinosaur presentations when they were younger. These consisted of his talking about a new dinosaur/dinosaur fact he learned while holding up a photo of said dinosaur he printed out. These presentations later turned into just watching documentaries.

During university, Iwaizumi had trail mix in his bag at all times. He'd buy it in bulk and have liked 10 small bags of it in his backpack. This was because his friends and classmates would feel sick because they hadn't eaten, so he always had something with him. Also helped when he had back-to-back classes and couldn't get lunch. He continued bringing trail mix with him after university. Japan's National volleyball team has made him have to buy so much trail mix it's ridiculous.

After three years of not getting sick, Sugawara was sick for a week, so he couldn't go to work. A coworker stopped by and delivered a get well soon card signed by all of Sugawara's students. He cried and put it on his fridge so he can always see it. (And as a reminder that he shouldn't actually quit his job.)

akaashi's parents are divorced (woah that's a 180) but they still love him (or, in his perspective, claim to but really they just don't know how to show it properly which is also one of the reasons their marriage failed lmao) and they work 9 to 5's so akaashi's almost always alone at home

akaashi writes poems and fics about bokuto (bokuto x reader bc he's delusional) and bokuto doesn't know about it (has seen a few of the poems bc akaashi's stupid and leaves it displayed on his desk but doesn't know they're about him--not that he can read it anyway)

akaashi's normal handwriting is barely legible because it's rushed cursive. like you seriously have to take the time to understand the pattern in his writing (aaannndd i just remembered that in japan you have to have neat handwriting to read the letters properly. IMAGINE THIS WOULD BE HIS HANDWRITING IN ENGLISH ALPHABET)

akaashi also likes to do traditional calligraphy!!! (now when i first made this headcanon i didn't realize calligraphy in "english" and calligraphy in japan were ENTIRELY different BUT PLEASE let me have this one or he could do both)

akaashi's favorite ink color is gold because it reminds him of bokuto's eyes but bokuto's favorite ink color are those dark teal green shades (seek reference: diamine's teal or aurora borealis or pilot ink's syo-ro) that remind him of akaashi's eyes (coincidentally those are also my favorite)

your giggles and sweet voice encouraging akaashi to join you lying down on the snow, swaying your arms and legs on the bed of the silvery ground, leaving impressions of your actions in the shape of what looked like an angel.

akaashi eventually agreed, lying down next to you, just observing you and watching you play around in the snow like a child. there something so pure about this moment, akaashi thought; all his worries melted like the snow on his back while he watched you and heard you laugh. you gazed back at him, smiling sweetly. taking his hand, you continue to leave marks of the two of you having been here in the snow, guiding him on how to make a snow angel.

akaashi was really awkward about it at first, believe it or not, he had never made a snow angel before. "it was quite common for me to get sick, actually, i couldn't stay out in the snow for long," akaashi explained, looking into your eyes with his own navy blue ones. "really?" you asked, pressing your hands to his face, checking if he was getting warmer or colder, but he was actually getting warmed up by you instead.

akaashi's face flushed a bit by his cheeks and ears, and he told you he would be fine, he'd get himself warmed up later. So this isn't really a headcanon, just something i needed to talk about but could be relevant. So Lonely by Noah Cyrus is a song, I don't know if it charted, how well it did, how well known it is. What I do know is that the lyrics are very much Kageyama. So we're gonna go through this song and I'm gonna just talk about this song and how it applies to Kageyama

So first two lines are literally "I'm slowly killin' myself / I'm trying so hard at the back of the shelf". So, to me, this is Kageyama throwing all of himself into volleyball and constantly trying to get better, at both volleyball and general communication. Him just slowly wearing himself down and not taking enough breaks. Also maybe him killing the awkward but endearing volleyball loving child he was and becoming the king of the court.

Then a little bit later " and everyone's dying, so I keep on trying / To make 'em proud before they are gone". So obvious thoughts his grandad dying and him wanting to make his sister, and maybe his parents proud. But also maybe wanting to make Oikawa and Iwaizumi proud.

The entire chorus, i feel like is middle school and early Karasuno Tobio but especially the "miss all my family" part. But can't someone help me? Oh, please, someone help me I don't care, anyone, anything 'Cause I'm so sick of being so lonely Miss all my family I don't care, anyone, anything 'Cause I'm so sick of being so lonely. This especially feels like it would be his mindset after his last middle school match and he just wants, needs, someone, anyone, to help him, to be there for him.

So the next chorus is more fanfiction-y but some good old-fashioned unrequited love angst. So I imagine this as Oikage but any unrequited Kageyama ship will work. Maybe some rare Kenma x Kageyama where the "her" is actually Hinata. Or Hinakage where Hinata is in love with Kenma. Honestly any Kageyama ship could work. But well "I'm spending more than I earn Drink all the time to forget I'm not her 'Cause I go to parties sometimes And I'll kiss a boy and pretend for the night". Like, would he do this in canon? Probably not, no, but in fanfiction? Yes.

And honestly this part is especially Kageyama coded and sums up his thought about middle school king of the court and who he's trying to be in Karasuno "'Cause I don't know much about me I'm still ashamed of who I used to be So I try way too hard But I still miss the mark to fit in". Like, idk. I feel like if I sat and wrote and angsty Kageyama fic, I'd use this song as inspiration because it just kinda sums him up. A lonely guy who's made mistakes but is trying his best to make up for them and play volleyball, but can't quite do it. He just wants someone to love and be proud of him. Actually, if I wrote an AU fic based on this, it would be one-sided Oikage and whoever he hooks up with at the party would be endgame, maybe Tsukishima, maybe Atsumu, but i feel like they don't fit here. I feel like it should be someone who'd be caring and loving and affectionste and encourage him to care for himself. I don't really ship Kagehina romantically, though i do like them as friends and platonic soulmates. Maybe a rare pair with someone like Kuroo or Daichi or Akaashi?
