Airport 1975 (1974)
"How's it flying now?"
"It's on autopilot."
"Well, how much damage was there?"
"Oh, not a great deal - there's just a big hole in it where the pilots usually sit."
#airport 1975#1974#american cinema#disaster film#jack smight#arthur hailey#don ingalls#charlton heston#karen black#george kennedy#efrem zimbalist jr.#susan clark#helen reddy#linda blair#dana andrews#roy thinnes#sid caesar#myrna loy#ed nelson#norman fell#jerry stiller#the first Airport film was a phenomenal success with both audiences and critics and so sequels must never have been in doubt#this was the first to arrive‚ and it came big and brainless. eschewing a lot of the careful construction and delicate character work of the#original‚ the focus here is squarely on spectacle. it meets that challenge well‚ with an impressive in flight collision and resulting#damage‚ as well as some truly impressive aerial photography; but i did miss the precision pacing and fine edges of the first film#altho separated by only a few years they really belong to different eras; the first a big budget‚ big cast‚ thoughtful event of a film#the second a flashy‚ smashy‚ dawn of the action blockbuster thrill ride. still‚ it's quite a lot of fun. Kennedy is the only returning cast#member and this time he has a personal stake (his family are among the passengers of the stricken plane) so he gets some nice emotional#moments. the inclusion of Gloria Swanson as some fictionalised version of herself is a weird choice and plays oddly (it feels like the film#as well as the characters within it are humouring her; it's a strange‚ slightly sad vibe for a former screen idol in her final film)

1985 promo for Alice in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass mini series. I remember watching the first night when I was very young and being traumatized by the cliff hanger ending, lol. But it's a wonderful version of the story with a star studded cast of classic actors, comedians, and even a Beatle! :D

Why hole yourselves up in a stuffy office when a terrace comes with it? Sid Caesar conducts a writing conference for his new TV show, Caesar's Hour, on the terrace of his penthouse office, October 28, 1954. Left to right around the table: Aaron Ruben, Joe Stein, Tony Webster (standing), Caesar, and Mel Tolkin. In the background, Howard Morris and Carl Reiner, Sid's fellow comics, lounge against the rail.
