Morehead City, North Carolina — Star Rods has now been used to break more than 250 world and state fishing records since the brand launched nearly 40 years ago. Nash County local Logan Ennis is the latest record breaker. On Monday, January 2nd, Logan along with his son Jackson and a family friend were sea bass fishing along the Morehead City coast near Cape Lookout. Weather conditions were slightly overcast with fair temperatures as Logan and his companions spent the day telling jokes and doing what they love. Logan was reeling in what he thought would be another sea bass, but was surprised to find a white grunt attached to his squid baited hook. He describes how he didn’t expect to see a grunt on that particular day, as he was only thinking about how to catch a sea bass, a fish he was accustomed to finding on these trips. “It was the biggest grunt I’ve ever seen”, describes Logan. Logan tells how he really didn’t even think twice about the fish, “de-hooking it and tossing it to the side.” Though he figured it was just another common grunt, Logan’s buddy sure didn’t, and encouraged him to take it for an official weigh in the next day at Chasin’ Tails in Atlantic Beach, NC. To Logan’s surprise, the kind folks at Chasin’ Tails let him know that he was on his way to the North Carolina state record. Whether to end a 22 year marriage or to endure the verbal abuse and controlling ways from my inlaws.

Where do you draw the line?? I have endured numerous times where my inlaws try to control our life, children, and our home .

It started right after we were married. We flew to vegas just the two of us and were married in a quiet and private ceremony . I was 7 months pregnant with my daughter Mia who's 21 now. My husband was 30 and I was 22. I didn't feel any different after we were married all I knew was I was madly in love and was thrilled to be having my first child. I watched" a baby story" everyday daydreaming about the day i would meet my first child. Jumping ahead to the day I knew that these people are going to be a problem. The day my daughter was born it was me and my husband and my mom in the delivery room. The moment she arrived my husband and I cried tears of joy and ahhh. It was love at first sight, then the nurses proceeded to do there first assessment. Then an aid comes in and states your family is causing a scene in the waiting room. The midwife I had suggested that I try to breastfeed right now to try and get a good start because I was a new mom. Then a nurse came in and said can we let the family in they are pretty upset they haven't seen the baby yet. I guess the breastfeeding can wait a little bit so my inlaws can meet there new grandchild. They came in and asked if my mother n law could hold my baby and i said ok. She held and stared at her, she looked at her so intently it was like nothing else existed. She stared like a mom stares at her new child. I waited patiently then I told George I would like my baby back please. It took 15min for George to pry my baby away from her. When they were done they just left. Didn't ask how I was or anything but i was so pumped from my new baby I let it go. Then next day a nurse practitioner was doing rounds and in my room i felt uneasy and depressed. I knew my controling inlaws would try and take over caring for my baby and at 22 i didn't know how to handle it. All I wanted was to be left to care for my child. Before I even had my baby my mother n law said that I wouldn't be a good mom and that id never be as good of a mother than her because shes had 5 children. One of which died at 6 months of sids according to her. Here first child from her first husband she left with her x husband in the Philippines because she got remarried and was afraid her new husband would hurt her son "her words".

I went back to work after 3 months and my inlaws watched my daughter during the day. While my daughter was at my inlaws I wasnt allowed to feed or change her cuz my mil would say im doing it wrong and take her from me. The insults and digs continued consistently then when my daughter was in first grade she came home and told me grandma said your stupid and had a fat butt. Whatever, then they gave her a cell phone so they could call her whenever she was home. Then came my first huge mistake. My husband wanted to go to nursing school in Connecticut so she wanted us to leave mia there and see her on the weekends. I was weak,young and i was stupid. I went with it then when school was over and we moved back it took us 3 years to untangle there grasp of my daughter. Souly because my mother n law was worried about my daughter. Apparently my father n law filled out the 6 month check from mass health and put himself as her primary guardian. So I couldn't even take my kid to the md without my father n law. Got a job and private insurance and they had nomore BS excuses to keep my kid. Now we are going to jump ahead to the present home and how we got here.

We were living with my dad because he had just gotten a divorce and fired from his job so he needed help . When we were there my inlaws walked in without knocking and walked around like they owned the place. George was preapproved for a VA loan so we started looking for our own home. Then my husband asked his father advice on buying a home and they took over. They found this house thats 50+ years old. My husband said he didn't like the house. My inlaws said you buy this house or were not going to help you, he said fine ill do it on my own. The next day they went to George and said we bought this house and its your inheritance so dont look a gifthorse in the mouth. This is you and michelles new home. Boy was that a blatant lie. 1 year after we got there my inlaws decided they don't like my father so while he was visiting having a coffee with me . They sent the police to my home and had him arrested. Firsttime in 60 years my dad was arrested.

At that time they announced that this was their house and they will say who can and cant go over. Then while George was at work they showed up unannounced as usual and said to me we got a lawyer to make sure that when you and George divorce you will not get this house. Whatever I said but was that necessary to announce to me. Throughout the next few years they told me to get out like 6xs not the family just me. They called the police on me 3xs because they started announcing there visits but could never take no as an awnser. My daughter got lice from school not a good time ,they called the police. My son has a fever not a goodtime they called the police. They also every 3 months would show up demanding a check for $1000 to pay the taxes. Take the check and pay at town hall because they didn't believe there son who has really good credit couldn't pay the taxes himself he was too irresponsible. Now I decided that im no longer spending my holidays with these people every holiday when we show noone would say hello or even look at me. We always ate alone because they never waited for us to arrive. They put me at the kids table and it was just a miserable time. Im done trying to endure the comments and yelling. Not having anyone to talk to during the holidays. So i stayed home told my husband feel free to go bring the kids but im staying home. Sex has seemed to have ended or if im lucky once a month. Whatever love was between us has been reduced to a coparent relationship. I miss him so much but I love my husband but i cant be apart of his family anymore. Im sick of having my property thrown away. Being belittled and be told im overreacting.

Your mission was simple. Always was, always had been. You liked working for the Agency, you’d been a young cadet once – bright eyed and eager. Got in a little too many bumps and scrapes which got you well known as reckless. That recklessness helped you rise through the ranks though – because you were prepared to take risks no one else would; both to stop people and save people. You supposed you were glad you weren’t I the same class as Lance Stirling – having opted for a different career path through the agency, but like Lance Stirling you were the best at your job – and you also believed in flying solo. You’d been offered to head a team many times; but that meant pulling you back from the field and you had way too much fun in the field to want to leave it. And you at least had good reason to fly solo. You were a covert agent. And instead of sneaking around trying to stop the bad guys, ending with a massive showdown that made you a hero and got you all the glory, you infiltrated to take them down from the inside. To anyone else – you were the bad guy. You only contacted the Agency twice – to receive a new assignment, and once the assignment was done, but under no other circumstances did you have contact with Agents. That kept them safe as well as you, and you knew how dangerous this was, but you were good at it. And that’s what mattered. A few years back you’d been sent to uncover facts about a plot manifesting in Kyrgyzstan; before you’d got a chance to go out there, Lance Sterling had gone and taken it out himself. Through some twist of fate, whilst working something for Katsu Kimura (you had to keep up apparencies!) you’d met the sole survivor of that very incident. He referred to himself as Killian – although you were fairly certain that was a code name for something else – a tall, handsome, careful Australian man who wanted nothing more than revenge on your Agency for what they had done to him, and everyone he knew. That kind of thing you could completely understand, but suddenly you found yourself in the midst of a plot to destroy both your employer, and all your friends. It made you uneasy. But you knew your job, and you’d damn well do a good one here too.

He made it hard, though. It was just far too easy to fall for him; easy on the eye, mysterious… terribly broken. You could sympathise all you wanted but you knew what it was. You knew it was a full-blown crush. And that led to you trying to find a way to stop this man that wouldn’t lead to him being hurt even more than he already was. As things picked up, you became closer and the more he let you into his world, the more you understood his reasoning. You’d never much been Lance’s biggest fan yourself – his methods didn’t matter to him so long as the job was done. You had always been far more meticulous even when reckless. That led from you suggesting things, and just helping out when you could, to being a partnership. Dare you say a team? And that partnership got closer and closer until one day it got a little too close and you decided that drinking champagne alone together was probably something you should never do again. But then it didn’t become a state of awkward co-workers trying to avoid each other; if anything if might well have helped relieve the tension. And before long you were telling him I love you and meaning it – and on occasion, Killian would even say it back. Deep down you knew it was stupid and probably wouldn’t last. It was your job to stop him after all, but you were allowed to let him be at least a little successful before you really had to step in. And that made him happy. And you made him happy. (Well, as happy as you supposed he got). There was nothing you dreaded more than having to shut him down – than having to betray him back to the organisation that had done this to him in the first place. But you weren’t going to let your emotions run this, and you knew you absolutely could not hesitate when the moment called for it. Killian was far more dangerous than anyone else you thought you’d ever come into contact with; and although you still didn’t know the full details of that fateful day in Kyrgyzstan, you got a pretty good idea of what exactly they could have been up to. So you stood by, as he gained the M9 Assassin, and tested it, meaning you were now holed up in a weapons facility in the middle of the North Sea. That came with its own mixed emotions – because although you did know what your Agency was capable of, seeing a stark reminder of it left you nothing but cold. Why should it surprise you that men like Killian wanted to take the whole thing down? And the M9 was something else entirely. How in the hell did the Agency even think that planning something like that, let alone building it, was a good idea? You sighed gently, turning away from the mass production line and walking towards the window – nothing but choppy waves for miles and miles. You raised your eyes to the skyline, currently a dull grey and waited. It might have been a long wait for him to get back from Venice but you’d likely stay here until he was back. And then you’d have to make your choice – because if he got ahold of that agent database and enacted his plans, it would be game over…

*** The problem was waiting for the right moment. Standing by whilst he lectured Lance about the how and why wasn’t it, and neither was the targeting system coming online considering you were surrounded by 1000 drones. And by the time they had cleared and you thought it was about the right time, you were already a little too late. Not for the situation. Oh you’d been too late for that for a little while, and you could of course, kick yourself for it. But for yourself. As soon as the room cleared and you thought you might well be able to breathe again, the screen flashed up a warning. Warning: Target in Proximity then it asked him if he still wanted to proceed. You weren’t exactly sure how these drones were going to kill people but you assumed that the warning was because Killian wouldn’t want to be anywhere near it when it happened. For safety reasons. To you it made sense for the warning to come up. Lance was in the room. Though you were sure that Killian wasn’t going to use a Drone to kill him – if kill him at all. Killian however, was confused; “What? Yeah, I told you not to target Lance. What are you talking about?” It took a couple of moments to register, and suddenly you were filled with an overwhelming sense of dread. Shit please don’t tell me that as an undercover agent – with the operations I run I’m still on the damn Agency list!!!

You were. Because as soon as he touched the screen your picture flashed up. And even Lance was perplexed. Oh you have got to be fu- You didn’t even have time to finish the thought before Killian turned to you, light in his robotics red as ever. “YOU-!?!” You looked back to the screen; well – it wasn’t even like you could deny it. It wasn’t even that old of a photograph. And you couldn’t even think of a decent excuse. “Killian, it’s not-” “Not what-!? Not what it looks like-!? Don’t you dare! How can it be anything else?” “The Agency didn’t ask me to… Yes - I work for them, but I chose to work this mission… and I…” He took steps towards you that made you concede them, and suddenly you were backed against the wall. Eyes wide; it was the first time you’d ever really been afraid of him, and what he might do to you. “I love you, that’s never been a lie! I fell in love with you!!” Nobody in the agency was asking you to get close to him by any means necessary and there is no way in hell you’d agree to do that in the first place. But that was ALL that was crossing his face. He might have been angry, obviously angry – but there was an element of hurt there too, that you could possibly have betrayed him like this; “Yeah, like I can believe that-!” “Killian-! Please-! I-” He wasn’t giving you much time to finish anything, as you were ruthlessly yanked from the floor by a drone. “No! No! NO! No! Don’t do this-! I love you-! God-! Please don’t do this---!” Whatever about him made him a good person, made him sympathetic and fragile and sometimes damn near soft towards you was all but gone. There was no way you were getting through to him now. “KILLIAN-!” You screamed as suddenly you weren’t over metal flooring anymore but rocks and ocean. You’d seen him do this to the researcher and never would have dreamed that you would suffer the same fate. “Please…!” Tears stung your eyes but you weren’t sure if that was the salt in the cutting wind, or because the man you loved was about to throw you to your death “…You don’t need to do this.” There wasn’t even a flicker of emotion across his face as he stared at you, maybe even through you, suspended over those unforgiving waves. “No, you see…” His mouth pressed into a hard line, and his eyes narrowed – cold and icy, “I do.” The freezing gusts stole your breath instantly, so as you fell you couldn’t even scream. And he was the last thing you saw.

*** “…Hey… Hey… wake up… Hey, gosh you must have taken quite the fall – Yeah Lovey, I think she’s okay!” Your vision remained blurred and occasionally went black as you tried to focus. Clearly you weren’t quite dead. “Woah-! No I wouldn’t try to move just yet; you’re hurt pretty bad just lie still…” When your senses decided to calibrate themselves, you were staring at a very young man. Messy brown hair and bright blue eyes. “Did you… save my life?” Your voice croaked but it’d have to do, he seemed a little bashful; “Well uh, yeah… I mean I guess I did.” With the limited moment you had you found yourself staring around – the noise of the waves still crashing against shoreline meant you were still on the weapons facility island. “Thank you.” “Oh. I don’t know how thankful you’ll be when you start to feel again, I feel like there’s quite a few breaks and fractures here…” There was a coo from beside him and you found your eyes flicking to a pigeon. He turned; “We better find Lance, and quick! Oh, but we can’t just leave her-!?” No, wait, make that three pigeons. You blinked a couple of times; “Wait, did you say Lance?” His blue eyes widened; “Yeah-!?” “You’re with the Agency-!?” He didn’t look like an agent – and if you thought it wouldn’t be terribly painful to laugh you might well have. “Y-Yeah-! Walter Beckett, I mean I work in the science labs but… you’re with the Agency.” You decided to shift your body up, resting on your elbows, taking it a little at a time; “Agent L/N. Covert Ops. Infiltration. This is the first time it hasn’t worked out.” You cracked a smile, “It’s a pleasure to meet you Walter.” Then winced as a sharp pain shot through your side, “Woah-! I told you not to move!” “I’ve always been just a tad reckless…” But you laid back down, “Lance is up there.” You nodded, “He’s pretty tied up right now. You gonna be able to save him.” “We’ve got this!” Walter smiled “Don’t worry-!” “You and your… pigeons?” You couldn’t really help the disbelief in your voice “Mhm-!” but he seemed confident; “Trust me, this is nothing compared to my day-!” He stood; “We’ll stop him L/N.” “Y/N. Call me Y/N.” That only made him beam; “I’ll contact the Agency, Y/N-! They’ll be here soon I promise!” “Thanks, Walter.” Then you did laugh; “You take your pigeon friends and end this-!”

Walter wasn’t wrong and before long further agents arrived and you did indeed receive medical attention.

You’d certainly have to thank the kid later; you knew you owed him your life now. But your body was also incredibly broken, and you knew you’d be stuck in rehab for a little while before you got back to work. But you couldn’t help but worry about Killian, what would the Agency do to him? What would Lance Stirling do to him - you knew the man’s reputation, after all. And it wasn’t like he hadn’t tried it once before.

What about what would happen if you had to face Killian again? You weren’t so sure you could handle that well.

You’d never wanted to get back to work so much in your life. You’d recovered well - probably pushing yourself a little harder than you should have and were back on your feet in record time. You wanted to see this one through and you knew that Killian was awaiting trial. Joy would let you do that, but she wanted you to continue to rest up as soon as it was all over.

As soon as you stepped out of that elevator and through the security gate - huge smile on your face to see the Agency bustling as ever; considering how different it would have been it Killian had succeeded - you were accosted by the very same young man who had saved your life. “Y/N!!” You couldn’t help but return his hug “Walter-!” Then laughed “Were you waiting for me-!?” “Kinda- I gotta say! It’s good to see you back-!” You thought that was very sweet, considering he’d never actually seen you here “Thank you... but honestly it’s me who should be saying that it’s good to see you... you saved my life!” He looked bashful again; “Oh. I mean, I’m sure you’d do the same, anyone would.” You tipped your head, certain that Walter knew that probably that wasn’t the case. But it was also clear he saw the best in people. You answered with a gentle smile; “Well, I would surely try...” you looked around him, “Where’s your pigeon friends-!?” He laughed; “Lovey, Jeff and Crazy Eyes-!? They’re home! You remember them-!” You folded your arms - “When you wake up thinking you’d died and you see a guy and three pigeons I think it’s pretty hard to forget... and Lance?” “Around, I’m sure.” “Uh huh... I heard it was all a little unconventional...” You made him walk with you as you spotted Joy waiting for you at the other end of the main lobby area “Unconventional sure-! But pretty awesome-!!” “You came up with all the gadgets too?” “Mhm-!” “So I guess I better start commissioning you for my stuff too, huh?” “Oh I dunno... you’re the covert one.” “True. Could come in handy...” You paused your walk and turned to him, “I’ll have to keep in contact - Walter! For sure!” “Or-! Maybe you can join our team-!?” “Your team?” “Lance and I, we have a team of agents now - oh this is all really new but-” He hesitated at the puzzled look on your face, “No?” “...Let me discuss this one with Joy-!”

By this time, you were in front of her; “Agent L/N.” “Joy” you folded your hands in front of you and dipped your head respectfully; “Thank you for allowing me to see this through.” “My pleasure. I believe you would be the one to know the most about this man, given your mission.” You nodded, wondering if she’d want you to speak at trial. You hoped not; how you were ever supposed to go back to what you did when this could well be publicised. “Therefore, we’d like you to keep an eye on him and escort him to trial. No one knows him and his movements better than you do.” You really hoped you didn’t look shocked - and you didn’t dare protest. That would mean you had to see him again- right?! Shit! How would he like that? Let alone you? Did he know you weren’t dead-!!? Although you were sure someone would probably let slip that the agent he tried to kill survived. “Yes M’am-!” You gave a nod, you needed to be prepared - If seeing this whole thing through meant being in proximity again, then you would simply have to bear it. He’d tried to kill all your friends after all - you couldn’t start being soft now. Besides they might know that you knew him, but they didn’t know your history - your romantic history. If you could keep your feelings in check it would all work out okay, and Killian would receive the justice he deserved.

“Good. We head to trial in few days. Let’s bring you up to speed...” ***

Killian wasn’t all that surprised to see you. Or, he didn’t look it at least. You assumed someone would have told him that you survived – you wondered what his immediate reaction was, was he relieved? Was he angry that he hadn’t managed to do the job? Either way, his face was anything but stoic, torn between staring at you so hard he was seeing right through you, like you weren’t even there – and he probably wished you weren’t, and looking like he was ready to murder you. Twice. You gulped, unsure now you were in front of him just how good of an idea this was. But it was certainly a little too late to back out of this now. You instructed the guard to hand over all the keys, and made the mistake of telling him you could handle this yourself. He looked sceptical; “But, Y/N, he did throw you out of a window.” You folded your arms, knowing that wasn’t EXACTLY what went down. “I can handle this.” Your voice was cool “But M’am-” “I can HANDLE this myself.” Your glare at least made him give up. “Fine, but remember the cameras are on him.” “I haven’t been doing this as long as I have to lose this one.” Then you turned back to Killian, still giving you that same look, and jerked your head. “Let’s move.” Killian sighed, which was as verbal as he’d gotten and followed you, turning back to smirk at the guard – which had him immediately reaching for his comms. “This one?” The smooth Australian accent cut the air with about as much venom as he dare give you. You ignored him, falling back behind him – but he kept walking the straight corridor and didn’t stop. “Not so talkative now, huh?” “Shut up.” “Oooh. I see.” “You tried to kill me, what are you expecting me to say?” “I figure with our history there’s a lot to say.” “SHUT. UP.” “They don’t know.” He stopped so suddenly, that you were only saved from crashing into him by your reflexes, and you scowled. Killian half turned, smirk renewed; “Do they?” “What happened between you and I is hardly relevant.” “Is if I bring it up at trial.” You opened your mouth, decided against it, and grabbed his arm roughly. You had a strong grip, he’d give you that, though he’d probably expect nothing less than a spy trained by the Agency “Don’t you dare.” “Or what?” You squeezed his arm even harder to the point where he winced and dragged him around the corner to a set of double doors that would lead to the armoured truck with which you’d drive him to the Agency trial. “You’ll be lucky if you get there at this rate.” “I figure I should be the one more upset here.” You scoffed again, yanking him back as you awaited the door to open automatically; guards flanked your walk to the car. “If you had your way, I’d be dead.” Even he couldn’t come up with a good comeback to that.

You loaded him in the back and attached his cuffs to the bench, before eyeing him suspiciously; “No funny business. I’m watching you.” His eyes searched yours for a moment and you stood still for a little too long; Killian raised an eyebrow; “You still think about it don’tcha.” “W…What?” “Me and you.” Then he smiled, and it was a real smile – nearly gentle, not malicious and certainly not a smirk. “Don’t ya?!” “Would you not be satisfied until I admitted it to you-!?” He sat back, look pointed. You’d walked right into that one – and suddenly you found yourself flushing. But his head tipped, “I’m glad I’m not the only one.” “W…” You were about to repeat yourself and stepped away pointing at him; “I know what you’re doing and it’s not gonna work!” “What am I doing, pray tell?” “Manipulating me. It’s not going to work, Killian. You’re going away for a very long time.” You hopped out of the back and glared at him again as you prepared to slam the door on him; “And I’m gonna make sure of it.” **

I’m glad I’m not the only one. Those words echoed in your head as you drove. And you started to drum your fingers on the steering wheel, biting your lip. After a while you were checking your rear view mirror a little too often – he was hunched over, and quiet, alone with his own thoughts. But every so often he’d look up and those startling blue eyes would catch yours – and he’d give you that smile again. You could barely tear yourself away – and yet at the same time couldn’t pull your eyes from his fast enough; and he had you heating up again. Your internal fight lasted nearly the whole journey. Your resistance waned but was surprisingly strong – although you knew it’d eventually break. And you could have done a billion things, called for an escort. Called for backup. Called Joy and apologised profusely but also said maybe you weren’t ready. Take the blame – maybe not come back until all this was over. You wouldn’t see it through – but at what cost were you about to ‘see this through’? You weren’t, and as you slowed the truck to a stop, you knew that your reckless streak was back. You didn’t hear Killian ask you why you’d stopped or what you were doing, as you rounded the vehicle. This was middle of nowhere USA territory – lots of things could go wrong out here. And no Agency cars for miles. They were either all already there, or so far behind they’d never catch on. You unlocked the back of the truck, and waltzed up to him. Killian regarded you uncertainly for a minute; “Think I’ll make good on my threat?” He chuckled, “You just gonna kill me now?” “Do what you couldn’t?” You laughed, “Maybe, and I’d do it a damn sight better.” Instead, you reached forward and pressed the release button on his handcuffs, stepping back. “Ah. Ooops.” He looked to his hands for a minute; raising them slowly – out of the cuffs his robotics weren’t disabled, and the red and blue lights shot through them again. But when he raised his eyes to your face again, his look told you he thought you were insane. “Why?” You folded your arms, thinking it was pretty obvious, and also not wanting to answer as he rose from his seat. But Killian’s eyes narrowed – and left eye changed from blue to red; “Why-!?” He growled it, not liking to be ignored. You gave a soft sigh; “Because I can. And I love you.” He took a step forward that was supposed to be menacing, but didn’t faze you; “I could kill you. Right now.” And he could certainly make good on that, this you knew. Eyes flicking momentarily to his machinery. But you knew him, and he’d shown his hand as much as you had. You met his eyes again, confidently; “You won’t.” “I already tried.” Fact, perhaps. But he’d failed, and didn’t seem to mind so much about that. “You won’t.” “They’ll know.” Killian smirked; “No way a smart girl like you would go to prison for me.” “I know my skill set. All its gonna look like is you did something to cause a car crash and you escaped… By the time they get here, you’ll be long gone.” You nodded to the open back door, “So I’d go get your head start.”

But he didn’t move, not for a few minutes, and you were about to get annoyed at him for not accepting your charity – before he rushed forward and pretty soon you found yourself pinned up against the wall again, his lips on yours. You couldn’t help but instinctively close your eyes to him, wrapping your arms around his shoulders, fingers in his hair. It wasn’t a long kiss, but still one you were going to savour, and as he released you, you knew his thank you wasn’t about to be verbal. That was it. You both gave each other the same understanding smile, before he turned back to the open door, walking slowly forward. Killian paused, letting the wind tousle his hair, and took a deep breath, before turning back to you. “Y/N… I…” You shook your head, wanting that sentence to go unsaid as much as he wanted to say it. “Catch you later.” He smirked, “You might...” With that he hopped down, and giving you a nod, took off. You stood where you were for a minute or two, smile on your face – before walking out of the truck yourself. You turned this way and that, but he was gone. Disappearing just like that… A little piece of you was disappointed. But you knew you’d see him again. That much was certain. You looked back to the truck, thinking you better get started, but gave one last glance to the desert around you. No, Killian, I will.

Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri Word Crawl

National Novel Writing Month is upon us, so I thought I’d make an Alpha Centauri themed wordcrawl. Probably quite a difficult wordcrawl, but I haven’t actually tested it. Tasks are to be done in order.

Disaster: A reactor malfunction damages the Unity! Do a five minute word sprint trying to get your bearings and reach one of the landing pods.

Factions: Now comes the time to join a faction. Which one should it be?

Cult of Planet: Technically not around yet, but you've had a premonition about Cha Dawn. Guess a number between one and 10, then generate a random number in that range. Write for a number of minutes equal to the absolute value of difference.

Cybernetic Consciousness: Binary is best! Write for 10 minutes.

Data Angels: How many characters does the password you use most have? Write for 16 – that number minutes, and you can skip this task if your password has at least 16 characters.

Free Drones: There’s work to be done. Write to the nearest thousand words.

Gaia's Stepdaughters: A year on Chiron is about 389 Earth days long, so write that many words.

Human Hive: Do as your told and write 300 words.

Lord's Believers: In most Christian traditions, the New Testament consists of 27 books, so write 270 words.

Morgan Industries: Look up the wealth of the richest person in the world. Sum the digits of their net worth until you reach a number you can handle, then write for that many minutes.

Nautilus Pirates: How many taps do you have in your home? Write for that many minutes.

Peacekeeping Forces: Find a partner and both write for 5 minutes.

Spartan Federation: Word war for 5 minutes.

University of Planet: Open a random wikipedia article. How many letters does the title have? Sum the digits until you reach a reasonable number, then write for that many minutes.

Your Own: Don't like the sound of any of these? Well you can start your own faction with whatever agenda you like, but that's harder than joining an existing one: Write 1000 words.

Alien Skies: Go outside and get a look at the sky, then write 100 words.

Research Priority: How do we want to prioritise our research?

Build: Build a solid foundation of 500 words.

Conquer: Do a 5 minute word war. 100 words or more to win, repeat until you succeed.

Explore: Get up and walk around, then write 200 words.

Discover: What are the first three digits of your wordcount? Write that many words.

First Facility: What should our first facility be?

Network Node: Don’t go online until you have written 200 words.

Recreation Commons: What is your favourite type of recreational activity? Count that word’s letters and write for that many minutes.

Fungus: The fungus is difficult to travel through, but you'll get there eventually. Write to the nearest 500 words.

New Base: Time to expand. Write the next paragraph.

Secret Project: Which secret project should we concentrate on? Write at least one to progress.

Command Nexus: Know thy enemy, but do not forget to know thyself. How many words do you think you can write in 10 minutes? Then write that many words.

Human Genome Project: Humans typically have 46 chromosomes, so write 460 words.

Weather Paradigm: What's the temperature where you are? Write for as many minutes as the absolute value of the local temperature.

Virtual World: No browsing the internet until you have written 300 words.

Indigenous Life Forms: Your scouts encounter a writhing mass of worms. What should they do?

Study: Hang back and carefully study the mind worms and compose an encounter report. Write 300 words.

Attack: Speed is your ally. Write for 5 minutes. If you write more than 200 words the mind worm boil is vanquished. Otherwise, write another 200 words as another expedition tries to piece together what happened.

Befriend: Careful does it. Write for 10 minutes.

Social Engineering: Now it's time to decide on the political system of our new society.

Frontier: A frontier society has no time for complex political structures. Simply write 100 words.

Democratic: If you are in the Data Angels or Peacekeeping Forces, you must choose this. Write to the nearest 1000 words.

Police State: If you are in the Human Hive, you must choose this. Do as you are told and write 500 words.

Fundamentalist: If you are in the Lord's Believers, you must choose this. If you are in the Cybernetic Consciousness or the University of Planet, you may not choose this. Write for ten minutes.

Planet Dreams: The planetary consciousness seems to be contacting you while you are asleep. How many hours did you sleep last night? Write for that many minutes.

Alien Discovery: It’s clear you aren’t the first sentient beings to live on this planet.

Monolith: The monolith provides a boost to morale. Write for 5 minutes.

Alien Artefact: The alien artefact unlocks a new technology. Write the next paragraph.

Vendetta: Find someone to do a 5 minute word war with. If you write fewer words than them, write another 100 words as you lick your wounds.

Brood Trainer: Your most promising young talent has the potential to command mind worms. But that is a terribly dangerous endeavour. What do you do?

You forbid an attempted contact. She has a long and distinguished career in something totally different, but your faction never gains access to Planet’s indigenous life as weapons of war. Skip this task.

You order the attempted contact. Write for 10 minutes. Her fate depends on the number of words you write.

Less than 200: She dies horribly during the attempted bonding process.

200-500: The contact with the mind worms is successful, but she later falls in battle. Fuelled by desire for revenge, if you lose a vendetta, you have to write 100 words fewer to rebuild.

More than 500: The contact with the mind worm boil is successful and your faction has gained a powerful handler for Planet’s wildlife. During indigenous life forms tasks, you either have to write 250 words or 10 minutes fewer.

Social Engineering: Now it's time to pick our economic system.

Simple: Every complex economic system has its disadvantages. Simply write 100 words.

Free Market: If you are in Morgan Industries, you must choose this option. Look up how many billions the world’s wealthiest company is worth, then write that many words.

Green: If you are in Gaia's Stepdaughters or the Cult of Planet, you must choose this. If you are in the Free Drones, you may not choose this. A year on Chiron is 532 local days long, so write that many words.

Planned: Fulfil your quota and write to the nearest 1000 words.

Indigenous Lifeforms: A wave of mind worms is attacking! To battle them off write

250 words if you picked Green economics.

750 words if you picked Free Market economics.

500 words if you picked Simple or Planned.

Social Engineering: Now it's time to pick our fundamental values.

Survival: You're to busy trying to survive to write treatises. Simply write 100 words.

Knowledge: If you are in the University of Planet, you must choose this. If you are in the Lord's Believers, you may not choose this. How many years of schooling have you done? Write for that many minutes.

Power: If you are in the Spartan Federation or the Nautilus Pirates, you must choose this. If you are in the Data Angels you may not choose this. Choose one type of exercise like sit ups, push ups, or squats. How many can you do in five minutes? Write that many words times 50.

Wealth: If you are in the Cult of Planet, you may not choose this option. Time is money, so write for 10 minutes.

Vendetta: As humanity expands on Planet, the vendettas are getting more vicious. Find someone to word war with for 15 minutes. If you lose, you have to write another 250 words to rebuild.

Planetary Council: Everyone gets to be heard and compromises made. Ask three people for a number and sum their digits up until you have reasonable number. Write for that many minutes.

Secret Project: Complete at least one of these to contine.

Empath Guild: Ask someone to think of a number between one and twenty. Guess that number, and write for as many minutes as the absolute value of the difference between your guess and their choice.

Planetary Datalinks: Do not go online until you have written 450 words.

The Supercollider: God might not play dice, but you do. Throw three six-sided dice, add the results and write for that many minutes.

Air Power: Air Power rests at the apex of the first triad of victory, for it combines Mobility, Flexibility, and Initiative. Get 5 minutes of exercise, then write for another five.

Centauri Preserve: No need to write anything for this one, but if you're here, you've already put quite some effort into this. So make sure that your work is sufficiently backed up, if you haven't already!

Planet Dreams: Planet is growing steadily more aware and sophisticated. It is even composing poetry. Find a poem you like: How many stanzas does it have? Write for that many minutes.

Vendetta: The War to End All Wars! For Real This Time! Find someone to word war with for half an hour. If you lose, you have to write another 500 words to survive the devastation.

Indigenous Life Forms: Compared to what is happening with Planet, the threat from the other factions doesn’t seem so important. Write more words than you did during the last vendetta.

Social Engineering: Now it is time to choose the ultimate direction of our future society:

None: It might be the future now, or soon at any rate, but you don't have time for this. Skip this section.

Cybernetic: If you are in the Cybernetic Consciousness, you must choose this. Round numbers are good, write to the nearest 1024 words.

Eudaimonic: If you are in the Free Drones, you must choose this. An excellent life requires exertion, and does not consist in amusement. Write for 15 minutes.

Thought Control: Do as you are told and write 800 words.

Secret Project:

Bulk Matter Transmitter: Matter comes in, matter comes out. Write 750 words.

Clinical Immortality: How old are you in years? Write for that many minutes.

The Nano Factory: Nanomachines are small and convert existing matter. Look at your wordcount, what are the last three digits? Write that many words.

Indigenous Life Forms: Swarms of Locus of Chiron darken the skies, demon boils pour forth from the fungus and vast Islands of the Deep erupt from the waves. Write for an hour as you try to survive.

Voice of Planet: Thousands of years of civilization compressed into a single searing burst of revelation, but it will suffice to write 1000 words.

Ascent to Transcendence: Finish the chapter you are working on.

Blackmail, Beatings, and Bad News...

Rounding up a week in Hollyoaks (10th-14th May 2021)

Fergus found himself in big trouble this week when his blackmailer, Katja, demanded a large sum of money in exchange for her silence about his perverted ways. Of course, Fergus wasn’t about to pay up and so told Warren that he needed to get rid of Katja, otherwise they’d both go to prison for the laptop robbery. Later, Joel saw a scared looking Katja in the village and she admitted that she had information about a robbery. Joel encouraged Katja to go to the police, however, as Katja made the call, Joel realised with horror that she was reporting his dad and urged her to hang up. The following day, Katja went to see Fergus and told him that she was willing to forget about the robbery, but only if he paid her £1000 per month. Fergus agreed and went to share the news with a relieved Warren, who decided to celebrate by taking a couple of days off work to spend time with Maxine. Unfortunately for Warren, this angered Fergus, and he told Maxine about Warren’s role in her accident. Maxine was furious by the news and told Warren that she wanted nothing more to do with him, infuriating Trish, who believed that her daughter was throwing away her last chance of happiness. Going to see Warren, Trish told him that he was probably better off without Maxine, causing Warren to leap to his ex’s defence. Predictably, Maxine overheard everything, and was touched by how much she clearly meant to Warren. Maxine agreed to give Warren another chance on the condition that he severed all ties with Fergus...

Meanwhile, Cleo found herself in a difficult position at work when she suspected that a young patient, Tommy, was lying about how he sustained an injury. Suspecting that the boy’s step-dad, Adrian, had something to do with it, Cleo tried to get Tommy to open up, but, just as he started to speak, Adrian arrived and he and Tommy got ready to leave. Sensing that Tommy was in danger, Cleo chased after them and lied that Tommy was having to stay in overnight as a precaution. The following day, Tommy eventually admitted that his step-father had caused his injury, and Cleo shared the news with Toby, breaking every patient confidentiality rule in the book in the process. Unfortunately, Tommy wasn’t willing to be honest with the police, and Cleo and Toby were left angry when DS Cohen told them that, unless Tommy made a formal statement, there was little she could do. Toby, however, wasn’t about to let Adrian get away with anything and he and Cleo confronted him. As Adrian ranted about Tommy, Toby viscously attacked him, much to Cleo’s horror. The following day, word reached Cleo that Adrian had handed himself him, however, Cleo denied any knowledge of his injuries when DS Cohen questioned her...

Elsewhere, Misbah found a way to solve all of Shaq’s money worries when she found an antique statue in the attic. Knowing that the statue had belonged to Misbah’s late husband, Shaq felt terrible about it being sold, but soon changed his tune when he realised how much Misbah had been offered for it. Knowing he’d soon have the money he needed, Shaq excitedly shared the news with Fergus. As we know, it’s actually the Maalik’s house Fergus is interested in and, when no one was looking, Fergus knocked the statue to the floor. With their last hope at getting the money together lying smashed, Misbah decided to sell the house to Fergus, but insisted that Sami mustn’t find out.

Yasmine was also keen to help solve Shaq’s money worries and decided to enter a journalism competition offering a cash prize. Yazz decided that Peri and Juliet would be the perfect interviewees but was left disappointed when they refused to be interviewed. Not be deterred, Yazz hatched a plan to get the answers she needed anyway, leaving Peri and Juliet angry when they realised they’d been tricked. When Yazz admitted why she needed the money, the pair agreed to be interviewed, but Juliet took offence to one of the questions and stormed off. Juliet was later seen receiving a text from an unknown individual, and her short temper over the days that followed left Peri fearing that Juliet was dealing again. By the end of the week, the pair had made up again and Peri was delighted when Juliet offered to move in. However, it looks like trouble could be on the horizon when Juliet confided in Sid that Donna-Marie had been trying to contact her.

In other news this week, Trish was furious when she discovered that Marco and his brother, Jacob, had stolen her list of clients, and threatened them with the police. However, she was forced to back down when they in turn threatened her with whatever dirt they have on her. The McQueen’s decided to get rid of George’s belongings and sold his iPad to Verity, who was horrified to discover that it contained a video that could incriminate John Paul in George’s murder. Finally, Martine won the Dee Valley Businesswoman of the Year award, but was later devastated when she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Rob Zombie; "Why it's time to step outside the confinements of his own box."

For close to four decades,

Rob Zombie has brought nonstop psychedelic grooves and a rockstar presence while gracing his own music and the silver screen with gut-churning, drug-tripping visuals. He not only commands quite the presence in films (whether his own successes or others’), but also makes appearances within many other horror soundtracks. There’s no denying that Zombie is a bloodied savant who has stayed incredibly consistent.

Let’s take a dive into his music before getting into his film library. From 1985-1997, White Zombie released six albums (between studio and compilations). La Sexorcisto: Devil Music Volume One didn’t break into the Billboard 200 chart until a year after its 1992 release. Shortly thereafter, it became the hot and groovy bong success of the band, going on to sell two million copies. Astro Creep 2000, their final and fourth studio release, was their first and only album to chart within the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 in 1995. Up to this day in 2020, “White Zombie” has been featured in 47 TV, film, and video game soundtracks, from Beavis & Butthead to Pen15 to Bride Of Chucky (which includes a personal favorite moment of mine), amongst many others.

After the disbandment and separation, Zombie continued on his solo journey. He has gone on to release six studio albums, with a seventh on the way in March 2021, titled The Lunar Injection Kool Aid Eclipse Conspiracy. A multitude of hits—eight to be exact—sat within the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 records.

Zombie’s extensive film career is a “Super Beast” on its own.

He has been very vocal about gaining inspiration from 1920s-1980s horror culture. In many interviews, he’s cited Stan Lee, Bella Lugosi, Alice Cooper, and Steven Speilberg as being responsible for molding the brain that we know today.

George A. Romero’s Dawn of the Dead (1978)

A Clockwork Orange (1971)

Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920)

The Shining (1980)

Zombie’s upbringing in the carnival industry alongside his family is another key influence.

In 2000, Rob made his directorial and (very memorable) screen debut with House Of 1000 Corpses.

It took three years to be released because of quarrels with major production companies regarding the film’s majorly aggressive themes of torture, blood, violence, sex—not to mention his arrogance with MGM, fighting to get rights back from Universal. Eventually, Lionsgate bit the bullet, albeit with the major stipulation of having Rob edit it down much further so House could pass with a “tame” R rating.

In 2005 and 2019, the franchise’s next two installments—Devil’s Rejects and 3 From Hell—were released. The franchise is heavily influenced by the shocking, sickening, and unforgettable ’70s classic Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It follows a family of psychotic, sadistic, and bloodthirsty (if I’m being honest) necrophiliacs. They kidnap, kill, torture and brutalize anyone who gets in their way. At the end of Devil’s Rejects, they somehow manage to survive a police shootout, escape prison, and waltz on into Mexico (as seen in the franchise finale 3 from Hell).

Look, this is a remake that you either adore or hate with a burning passion. If you’re a horror fanatic, you know what’s up with the original.

I personally adore Zombie’s take. The fact alone that he gave us an entire background story as to why Michael became the psychotic slasher that we’ve come to know and love. Plus, with an increased suspense and gore factor? Worked incredibly well and did justice (in my opinion).

The film made me feel bad for Michael, with moments of child Myers in therapy, particularly his love for making masks to pass the time while he was locked up and the touching family moments between him and his mother Deborah (Sheri Moon).

Add in the supporting cast of Michael McDowell (Loomis), Brad Douriff (Sheriff Leigh), Scout Taylor-Compton (Laurie Strode), etc., and I honestly think that it came together very well as a remake.

The films rated relatively low, but they did gross higher than the budgets that they originally had to film on. Again, I’m not going to give much attention to the higher-ups of critical perception—it all comes down to personal taste.

“Lords of Salem” (2013)

A film that’s centered within Salem, Massachusetts,

this film—you guessed it—tackles witches, occultism, possession, Satan, and all the usual topics. Heidi (Sherri Moon) is a radio DJ who gets sent a mysterious record that’s labeled as being from “The Lords.” From then on out, shit gets a little dicey and admittedly, very disjointed. You can’t fault the cast here, and I loved the visuals that they were going for. However, with set schedule conflicts and multiple rewrites, which led to essentially running out of time to film? As a whole, what looked great on paper just couldn’t be done justice.

My FAVORITE sequence within the film (SPOILERS):

I can forgive the disjointedness solely because of how mind-boggling and brilliant the film’s history and proper visuals were. Also, we got to see Dee Wallace, Judy Geeson, and Patricia Quinn as creepy and badass witches who moonlight as Heidi’s landlords. Also Meg Foster who leads their coven? Can we talk about what a femme-fueled power cast that is?!

Like I said prior, the film gets a little wild. If you’re...well, buzzed prior to watching, it may make a little more sense.

“31” (2016)

[Synopsis from IMDB; “Five carnival workers are kidnapped and held hostage in an abandoned, hellish compound where they are forced to participate in a violent game, the goal of which is to survive twelve hours against a gang of sadistic clowns.”]

Here, we clearly see that Zombie is invoking his childhood growing up within carnivals. In a 2013 interview with LA Weekly, Zombie divulged more about it:

“When we were kids, my parents would [work at the carnivals], and me and my brother would get dragged along to these things all the time and have to work.”

He went further on to say;

“Yeah, and it's not the nicest world. As a kid, you get exposed to the crazier underworld of the carnival. Me and my brother, when we were very little, we'd be inside the haunted house playing all day. So, already, what people are paying money to be scared [of], we're just playing in because it's fun. We saw the inner workings behind the machines.”

Set in 1976, Zombie stays true to his nods. Again, depending on taste, this is a huge hit or a wild miss with mindless homicidal violence, campiness, and climbs across the monkey bar of standards that we’re used to seeing from him.

So at this point, you’re probably wondering why I think that it’s time for Rob Zombie to step out of the confinements of his own box...

It’s no secret that Zombie sticks to only a small group of tropes:

Slashers, families or groups of homicidals that lack remorse, the occult, etc. There’s no shame in sticking to what you know. Hell, Zombie has seemingly cracked the code over the past two decades that he’s been in the film industry that so many directors still don’t seem to get.

IMO, despite whatever you personally feel about the films mentioned above- I feel like we’re living a freaky groundhog day repeat within Zombie’s filmography.

Now, if it ain’t broke, why fix it? Look, I’m not saying that Zombie has to change anything. However, I would love to see him tackle some other nuances that we’ve already seen from him in small doses.

- Children: We haven’t seen Zombie exactly take on what horror films depict kids as. Sure, he made a breakout and impeccable choice with young Michael Myers (Daeg Faerch) back in 2007. I personally would adore to see a reimagined (NOT remade) Children of the Corn on acid, one we all know Zombie can tackle and turn every existing view on its head.

- Witchcraft, The Occult, Satan, Voodoo: Zombie genuinely had a phenomenal concept (on paper) for 2012’s Lords of Salem. It was unfortunate that they ran out of resources and ran into unfortunate circumstances on set while filming.

The film wasn’t a total tank, though, given how inspiring and insane all the visuals were throughout the 1 hr, 41min film. I am absolutely positive that, given a full-force opportunity, Rob could rectify the mess that was out of his control. We completely saw that he provided visuals that left quite the impression, and he could take those taboo subjects by the goat horns.

- Animals (not the human form): It’s no secret that Rob and his wife Sherri are ethical vegetarians. It would be so tongue and cheek to see them take on such topics as animals getting their revenge, or even vegetarians torturing carnivores. This twist on the formula would make for an interesting viewing.

2.) In regard to time periods,

Zombie stays within—and pays homage to—the 1970s and 1980s quite a bit. Obviously, those are the eras that Zombie personally loves the most when it comes to filmmaking. However, it would be very interesting to see him take on current day settings.

Zombie has such a unique viewpoint. Given changing climates in politics, human decline/growth, the economy, etc., he would do work that could easily put Ryan Murphy to shame.

3.) He could also do with some different casting every now and then.

Let me preface this by saying that I adore every repeat casting choice that Zombie has made for his films.

Of course chemistry is a huge thing, and sticking to his friends is a very smart choice. However, he also has the potential to make new stars, boosting the power of those that may be under the radar. He can support those new stars with cameos from classic actors that we haven’t seen in awhile. I can’t begin to even fictionally cast those who fit the bill, but I do believe that with the “Zombie Touch,” he can bring so much more fresh air to the usual casting.

There’s no doubting what Rob Zombie is clearly very good at. Despite mixed reviews from the horror world and critics, it’s time that his fans open their eyes to new possibilities. Of course, there are die-hards, but digging your feet in further doesn’t allow the growth of horror and its ever evolving themes.

This theory has been on my mind for a very long time—since 3 from Hell came out. I’m sure, in his usual fashion, we won’t be seeing any new films from Rob anytime soon (what with his new album set to release in March 2021, not to mention the toll that the pandemic has had on Hollywood.)

Still, it never hurts to challenge the set standards and ways.

Taken in by Yen Sid at a young age, they trained their abilities along with two of his other apprentices.

Occasionally, they would travel to the Land of Departure to spar with Terra, Aqua, and Ventus.

BBS:

After having recently passed the mark of mastery, Yen Sid sends Fae to investigate strange activity in Radiant Garden along with Oswald, another recently appointed keyblade master (and Mickey’s brother). While trying to sneak into Ansem’s castle, they meet two young boys - Isa and Lea. They agree to let them tag along. While exploring the deepest depths of the castle, they find an amnesiac girl being held captive. After repeated visits, the trio make a promise to break her out no matter the cost. However - on the day of the fated jailbreak - the girl is nowhere to be found. Determined to find out what happened to their friend, Isa and Lea become Ansem’s apprentices while Fae joins the castle guard. In secret, Fae gives Oswald access to the castle to help investigate. For years their search reaches dead end after dead end until Ansem himself goes missing. Things continue to fall apart after the trio become nobodies and consequently recruited into Organization XIII. Oswald reports back to Yen Sid about Fae’s fate.

10 year gap b/w BBS & KH1 + CoM:

While Saix and Xefa grow closer during their continued search for their lost friend, Axel drifts apart after losing hope of finding her. Meanwhile, Xefa begins doubting Xemnas’ insistence on nobodies lacking hearts and isn’t entirely jazzed about summoning Kingdom Hearts either. After a series of unfortunate miscommunications, Xefa escapes the cult organization and eventually ends up hiding in Twilight Town, where they’re found by DiZ/Ansem. After quickly being replaced by Roxas as the organization’s 13th member, Xefa keeps to themselves watching things unfold in the “haunted” mansion in the outskirts of town.

358/2 Days:

During a routine mission in Twilight Town, Xefa saves Roxas from an unexpectedly strong heartless. Shocked to find another keyblade wielder (especially one wearing the orgxiii coat), Roxas asks them to help him on missions, since his usual partner is currently unable to use their keyblade. Despite being told to keep hidden, Xefa regularly sneaks out to help Roxas & Xion. This goes on for about a month before they’re forced back into hiding after a certain organization member becomes suspicious of outside “help”. In order to keep themselves busy, they oversee Namine’s work on restoring the memories of a boy they know only as Sora. Time passes by and one day Xefa finds out about DiZ placing Roxas inside a virtual Twilight Town. Soon after, they realize they suddenly can’t remember the identity of the second keyblade wielder that was with him.

KH2:

After Sora awakens and begins travelling from world to world, Xefa decides to try to interfere with the organization’s plans to the best of their ability. Meanwhile, Oswald works with the team in Hollow Bastion in their efforts to restore Radiant Garden. Eventually Xefa gets caught by Saix, where they’re consequently imprisoned in the castle that never was. Escape is easy, and after running into Sora and the gang, they get into a fight with Xemnas. Which nearly ends in the worst way possible had Saix not interfered at the last second. Instead they’re dealt a slightly worse but still just as shitty fate. Xefa gets norted.

Coded/3D:

Being possessed becomes a little easier after being reunited with Saix, however awkward that reunion may have been. As per usual, it doesn’t last long. After having been informed about Yen Sid’s former apprentice, Sora and Riku keep an eye out for any appearances made by them. Which doesn’t take long. Xefa is sent by Xehanort to dispose of the two, hoping to trap them in a comatose state before they can finish their mark of mastery. However, Xefa is eventually defeated by Sora, where they wake up recompleted as Fae in Radiant Garden where they’re reunited with Oswald and the apprentices.

KH3:

After learning more about the situation at hand, Fae decides to help train Lea and Kairi with Merlin and the fairies. After completing said training, they meet up with Sora and the gang (now including Aqua and Ven). But before the big fight at the keyblade graveyard, Fae and Lea go for ice cream in Twilight Town where they’re unexpectedly greeted by Saix. After that it’s just a gauntlet of Rough Shit until Saix fades and Isa becomes recompleted. Which spurs Fae to return to Radiant Garden instead of joining the rest in the big endgame fight. They know they aren’t a part of the 7 guardians of light, so despite everyone’s protests they insist that Isa needs them more. And despite everything, it turns out okay (at no small cost however). Back as a trio, Fae, Isa and Lea hope to continue their search for their missing friend.

Lee Cyto Rinker Jr (Son): Kudzai's oldest son who is 1018 years old. Kudzai has a strained relationship with her eldest due to how similar he is to his father. A wild telekinetic, Lee makes foolish decisions and Kudzai thinks it is pure dumb luck he is not 6 feet under like his father.

Cristae Zephyr Rinker (Daughter): Kudzai's oldest daughter who is 980 years old and the reason why she refuses to train anyone under her mark. She has made many of the same mistakes Kudzai has and is a strong source of frustration for her. They are just too much alike.

Krebs Jay Rinker (Son): Kudzai's middle son who is 364 years old. He is Kudzai and James Thomas' son. Kerbs is Kudzai's least favorite child but she could not bring herself to get rid of him in her womb. Kerbs grew to be like his grandfather.

Hondria Edison Rinker (Daughter): Kudzai's youngest daughter who is 119 years old. She is a talented Projector and was trained by her father, Minsky. She and her mother often fight about Jamie and she left Chicago for New York to train in her advanced away from her parents.

Jamie Edison Rinker (Son): Kudzai's youngest son who was 17 when he died. He was Kudzai’s pride and joy, and she thought he had the potential to be the best Rinker yet. Unfortunately he inherited his father’s powers and randomly died in his sleep. Minsky and Kudzai were devastated equally and separated soon after.

Romantic Connections:

Lee Rinker (Ex-Husband): They were married under the stars in her wild teen years. Lee, a warlock, died during a freak training accident with his mentor. Leaving Kudzai behind with their first born son and daughter, Lee Jr and Cristae.

James Thomas (Revenge Lay): James was the only son of the slave owner that beat and raped Kudzai daughter. She stole him away, made him fall in love with her, took his virginity and then killed him. The Thomas family was shamed, neighbors believing that James ran off with a slave girl. Months later Kudzai found out she was carrying his child.

Roman Cleirigh (Unwanted Attraction): Roman is asexual but Kudzai has tried more than once to get the insane Cleirigh into her bed.

Mu’ba (Ex-Boyfriend): He was a strong and handsome man that Kudzai met in passing. Mu’ba found a way to weaken her powers. Causing their fun loving relationship to take a turn for the worst. It took Kudzai over 34 years to break away from the abusive relationship. It took another 135 years for Kudzai to kill Mu’ba, all within his lineage and associates that knew what he was doing to her..

Minsky Edison (Husband/Separated): Kudzai was smitten when Minsky chose to pursue her romantically. She held out because of the notion that Neuromancers die randomly and the dark cloud of her past relationships. However, he eventually won her over and Kudzai finally found true love and settled down. When their son Jamie passed away, nearly 60 years ago, it put a strain on their relationship and they eventually separated. Since then Minsky and Kudzai have been off and on again; they are currently on again and planning to rekindle their marriage for good this time. Kudzai knows Minsky is it for her but needs to heal on her own.

Platonic Connections:

Sid Velanica (Great Something Grandson): Kudzai hated Sid when they first met. It took decades before she saw his talents and was able to detach him from his mark. Sid is clever and has a good heart, despite being descended from her children. Kudzai neither approves or disapproves of Sid's relationship with Sada.

Cassia Trelawny (Mentee): Kudzai had originally thought Cassia was from her family line. Cassia fought to prove that while she does not know her parents she was not from the Rinker lineage. Kudzai does not know exactly why she accepted Cassia as her mentee. Kudzai saw something in Cassia that she could not put her hands on. They have a strong mentor and mentee relationship but nothing more.

Tristan Lawton (Mentee): In all her years Kudzai has never met someone with such passion for magic and the willing ability to use it but is an absolute disaster at it; Tristan has the drive but he does not have the telent. Her hands are full and tied with him. She is too afraid for mankind and the entire universe to let him train under anyone else. She believes they are slowly making progress.

Sada Warren (Ex-Mentee): Sada and Kudzai have a surprising relationship. Kudzai is certain it started around the same time she lost her son, Jamie. Sada will never replace her boy but she means more to Kudzai then most of her children. Kudzai neither approves or disapproves of Sada’s relationship with Sid.

Ronan Cleirigh (Council Member): Ronan believes Kudzai purposely goes against him on Council decisions. Kuzai is constantly competing with him.

Jace Cicero (Council Member): Jace and Kudzai are both very closed off and relaxed compared to others their age and who are on the local Council. This makes being friends easy. They are both able to leave Council business in the Council Room and continue about their day without taking it out on others.

Rhiannon Draga (Council Member): Rhiannon, Minsky, and Kudzai are all close friends outside of the Council. Rhiannon and her husband, Vladimir would often join Minsky and Kudzai for couples night. Rhiannon was a big comfort when Jamie died and helped Kudzai through her grieving process.

Kaylor Genesis (Best Friend): Kaylor is one of the other older females in Chicago beside Rhiannon and Kudzai. They have formed an unlikely friendship due to their strikingly different personalities. Kaylor has the ability to bring out the best in Kudzai and Kudzai’s happiest memories are usually shared with Kaylor.

Clarisse ‘Clara’ Fields (Associate): Clara is a part of the Animal Shifter Council. They rarely talk and Kudzai has nothing to say to her besides pleasantries.

Chris Bialar (Associate): Chris is a part of the Animal Shifter Council. They recently started speaking about a possible supernatural schooling system.

Ellis Watts (Associate): Ellis is a part of the Animal Shifter Council. They rarely talk and only share pleasantries. Kudzai knew Ellis' father and felt the same.

Juliette Willott (Associate): Juliette is a part of the Animal Shifter Council. They rarely talk and Kudzai has no respect or patience in regards to her.

Percy McCormick III (Associate): Percy is a part of the Animal Shifter Council. They rarely talk and Kudzai has nothing to say to him besides pleasantries.

Isaac Baker (Associate): is a part of the Animal Shifter Council. Kudzai has been unsure about Isaac as of lately, especially after he took Deucalion into his pack.

Scorpius Getta (Associate): Getta is the vampire clan master. She finds him annoying and scheming but productive and a better clan master then the previous one. He is easier to work with than the animal shifters but She will never admit it.

Sirius Cobic (Associate): Sirius is the human shifter leader and chief of police. They are the closest out of the clan leaders and council members. She considers him a friend on her good days and they coordinate magical coverups together

Emmett Wilhelm (Acquaintance): Emmett is the liaison for magical users and they have a basic understanding. She wants him to join the Council as a Wilhelm.

Hostile Connections:

Nick Hamelin (Associate): Nick is a part of the Animal Shifter Council. Kudzai knew Nick back when he was rumored to be the Pied Piper. She heard how much he has grown but she would never let her guard down around him, his brother, his mate or his pack.

Deucalion Thornton (Hate): Kudzai's hatred for Duke also extends to his twin brother, Aries. They both were menace to the warlock society. Duke has recently tried to break a curse that could have exposed the entire supernatural community.

History

Unlike most warlocks in the 1000-2000 years old range, Kudzai has retained a great deal about her early life. Her mother, Georgina, had her while in exile. Georgina was exiled and deemed nefarious because she believed had slept with the devil and was carrying his spawn. Their mother-daughter relationship was rough at times because Georgina had never let Kudzai forget she was a demon spawn but they both loved each other and depended on one another. Besides her shaking hands, Kudzai and Georgina had not seen any other proof of Kudzai being a demon spawn until Kudzai was about four years old. Kudzai was playing with a street dog which eventually bit her. Crying and in pain, Kudzai had covered the bleeding dog bite and ran home. However, once she reached the house, Kudzai noticed the pain, and the bite was gone. She had nothing to show her mother beside the blood that was still covering her hand and arm.

At the age of 10, Kudzai was taken from her mother and sold to the Head Chieftain of a nearby village. She was trained and forced to become the Chieftain son’s concubine. Kudzai endured abuse at the hands of the Chieftain son, his father, mother, siblings, and his wife. It took a few years but Kudzai was able to sneak away once she had proven to be broken and loyal. They become lax with her, therefore, Kudzai was able to free herself and the other concubines. Kudzai found herself hungry and alone when she stumbled across an older lady. She was hurt and Kudzai felt a strong sense to help her. Kudzai knew she was special, having helped the other concubines before, she reached out and healed her. It was the best decision of Kudzai’s life. The lady was named Mana and she was a witch. She sparked Kudzai's interest and taught her about the supernatural world. Mana educated Kudzai on what it meant to be a magic-user. Mana taught her both magical and human means of medicine.

That is how she met her first husband, Lee Rinker. Lee came in injured from practicing a curse gone wrong. They fell in love while Kudzai healed him and were married within a few months. Lee called her a ‘fellow hell-raiser to travel with for eternity’ as a part of their vows. He was her love and protector. They traveled to Africa and the Middle East, living as most wild warlock teens. They made love, smoked, and drank themselves into bliss. They learned magic together under Mana’s watchful eyes or at least when she wasn’t sending them away because of their scandalous ways. Lee had never told Kudzai about his family and kept his mark hidden from her but he always talked about having a big family once they were ready.

When starting on their Advanced magic, Lee and Kudzai left Mana to look for other mentors and sources of guidance for Lee’s curse craftsmanship. Given his personality and his status as a male, Lee always found mentors far easier than Kudzai. He never let her down, teaching her what he learned and finding ways to incorporate it into her own powers; especially when it came to controlling the emotional aspect of their powers. It was while they were living and training in Egypt that Kudzai gave birth to their first child, Lee jr. Lee was a proud father and was over the moon that Junior shared his powers and his love for curses. Things were no different when they had their second child, Cristae. She, like Junior, had Lee wrapped around her little fingers. It felt like the end of the world when Lee’s mentor brought his dead body home on the eve of Cristae's fourth birthday. No amount of healing and begging the Gods brought back her love. With a broken heart and enough tears to form an ocean, Kudzai focused on her children and powers.

Kudzai and her children's powers were no match for the slave trade. She was grateful that she was able to stay with Junior and Cristae since no one knew they were connected. Kudzai and Cristae worked as maids while Junior worked in the fields. It was in their masters' house that Cristae was violated and Kudzai plotted her revenge. It was the first time since Lee that Kudzai felt unprotected with a burning red hot rage within her. Killing James Thomas would have been a mercy and Kudzai wanted his family to suffer. She had heard about other slave owners being ridiculed or losing status because of mulatto’s babies. She knew that would be the best fitting reaction for her masters' only son. When Kudzai gave birth to Krebs, the Thomas family was shamed, neighbors believing that James ran off with and impregnated a slave girl but Kudzai had already killed James.

After escaping the Thomas farm, Kudzai, and Krebs, Junior and Cristae went their separate ways. Mu’ba found Kudzai in hiding with Krebs. He was a charmer and seemed willing to care for a child that wasn’t his. Kudzai was dead wrong. On his good days, Mu’ba would only beat her and Krebs within an inch of their lives. She is sure this is where Krebs' hatred and similarities to the Thomas family stemmed from. Making an escape and torturing him is still one of the top five favorite moments of her life. She fed him to his own pigs and sold the pigs for money that brought her and Krebs land. On that land, she practiced and became a known biokinetic healer.

When she heard about an open spot on the council in the newly founded Chicago, Kudzai leaped at the opportunity. It was a chance to start fresh and have a blank slate. There she found a community to thrive in. She was highly respected among her peers, and found fast friends in Rhiannon and eventually Jace. And then there was Minsky. The attraction was magnetic from the moment they met. He was arrogant, cocky of his abilities, but never cruel or violent. He could stand up to her opinions and respected her as an equal. They had a long, lively courtship that lasted 10 years before they married. Their marriage was a breath of fresh air and Kudzai finally had a place where she belonged. Minsky and Kudzai were both skittish around the topic of children. Minsky yearned for them but had always worried about abandoning his child, while Kudzai deemed her first three children's parenting fails. Eventually, they both took the leap together and had Hondria at the turn of the century. She was a projector and the light of her father’s life. While Hondria and Kudzai frequently butted heads, she saw her potential and was happy. A few decades later, she and Minsky tried again for a child. Jamie was born and in him, she finally found the one child with who she felt an instant connection. Maybe it was because he was so well behaved, or because he reminded her so much of Minsky. All Kudzai knew was that he was her special one.

Kudzai and Minsky waited eagerly for his powers to show, but once they did, concern filled them. He was a Neuromancer like his father. They tried to keep a positive attitude, but the ticking time bomb felt like it was always hovering over them. Kudzai forged on, however, pouring all of her attention into her son, blatantly ignoring Hondria. Their relationship turned colder, however, Kudzai didn’t care much. It was in his 17th year that Kudzai’s greatest nightmare occurred. She went to wake her son in the morning and found him still. She rushed over and shook him and tried to jump-start his heart but he was past saving. Minsky and Hondria found her hours later, still hovering over his body. Minsky was finally able to pull her away. They tried everything, and even Ronan could not bring him back. It was at this moment that they realized what had happened. Jamie, despite his father being alive for over a millennia, passed away from his power. Kudzai was distraught and angry at everyone; Minsky for cursing him with his power, Hondria for acting callously about his death, all of her previous children for being the ones who survived, herself for not being able to save him. She could not contain her rage and in her grief ended things with Minsky. Minsky and Hondria moved out and she was all alone. It was during this painful time that Kudzai began pouring everything into her work. She focused on her mentees and began looking into various studies by fellow warlocks to help with the hand tremors that plagued Biokinetics. She maintained her steady work with the council, despite the awkwardness and hurt between her and Minsky.

Present

Kudzai is primarily focused on her work. She is a general surgeon and was just offered the position of Chief of Surgery at the hospital. It took ten years to get back to her old position when she moved into a new hospital and she feels like she’s earned it. Another major focus in her life has been with her mentees. Cassia is following in her footsteps and despite not being emotionally close with the younger woman, she is proud of her actions in and outside of the hospital. She is incredibly competent and is working on finding a cure for the trembling of their hands. Tristan is much more of a project, and she isn’t quite sure she believes that he is a biokinetic. Kudzai believes Tristan wants to help people, but he’s a danger to himself and others. Because of this, he has become a puzzle that she wants to figure out.

On a personal level, Kudzai is working on her mental health and subsequently her relationship with Minsky. They have been on and off for years, falling into one another’s beds and then running at the first sign of a real relationship. After decades of being miserable and heartbroken over Jamie, Kudzai wants to start again. She has taken to seeing Nathan Cleirigh as her therapist and is working on those issues that have caused her so much pain. She and Minsky have also started marriage counseling to try and resolve the hurt feelings between them. Kudzai genuinely wants her marriage to work and is trying, for the first time, to be truly open with herself and those around her.
