It was a harmless try, from the way he would start biting you out of nowhere. You would shrug it off as an attempt at cuteness aggression.

Except that it didn’t stop there.

His hand lingered longer around your neck, feeling your pulse. His eyes dilated from observing part of your exposed body.

Until his desire to consume you literally could no longer be bottled.

By the corner of the room, he knelt down and gnawed at your gutted stomach, blood splattered all over him and the room.

Miraculously enough, you were still alive. You could feel the way his hand rummaged through your internals, his hand feeling the way your heartbeat to the way his teeth cut through your guts.

His mouth couldn’t stop munching on your intestines, his tongue lapping all the blood dripping on his fingers, savoring the steel taste.

“… hur..ry and… kill… me already…”

Alas, your pleas fell on deaf ears as his lip crashed onto yours, blood infiltrating your taste buds. To your better judgment, you could only think of something worse as you saw something bulging down by his trousers.

“Can’t do that, ever, love.”

monoco's holding so much back and I kind of feel bad that we only really get small glimpses of him letting his guard down, letting his true feelings of grief and dread poke through.

because this wasn't the first time he lost noco. and he knew about the circumstances behind verso's plan when it came to the expeditioners and the canvas for so long. he had to have.

it's why he was so quiet through much of everything regarding the monolith. he knew what was coming, and wasn't as emotionally prepared for it as verso was. verso wanted this, but monoco wants more time with the people he loves.

that's truly why monoco is heartbroken by the idea that he isn't allowed to take noco back to camp with them in act 3. it's unsafe, yes, but he just wants to spend what little time he has left with noco, esquie, and verso. there's also the grief of noco not having all of the same memories, so it's no wonder why he outright sobs when they visit him in the gestral village.

I think he spent a lot of time with verso in the time between the end of act 2 and the end of the game, processing much of what's happening and what was going to happen. that no matter what maelle's goal was, monoco knew exactly what verso's intentions were. and as much as he wanted the canvas to continue on, to be able to continue along the people he loves, he also has seen so much of verso's pain and he wants that to end.

monoco is willing to sacrifice his, noco, esquie, the gestrals, everyone's futures just so verso isn't in pain anymore. he doesn't stop him, he helps him. it's why verso and he don't say a word during the confrontation between maelle and renoir. bc they agree with him, and just hope renoir could convince her, but it never comes. unfortunately, they have to fight alongside maelle, but they know what their end goal is. they know how things are going to end (if verso gets his way).
