"If War Is A Choice, Peace Can Be Too" - Side Event on Young Leaders' Contribution to Peace and Security.
A Side Event on Young Leaders' Contribution to Peace and Security organized by Rondine with the Permanent Missions of Italy, Costa Rica and Monaco to the United Nations with the support of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC).
Tumblr media
In the fifth iteration of the series, Rondine and its student community reaffirm their commitment to a world free of armed conflict and violent extremism through peace education, workshop trainings on youth leadership for peace, and by promoting the values outlined through the "Leaders for Peace" global campaign in line with the United Nations' Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development and UNSC Resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace and Security.
The campaign is a call to action for all UN Members to invest more in education for peace, to structurally integrate the teaching of Human Rights in national education systems, and to devote a symbolic amount from their budgets to scholarships for outstanding young leaders of peace.
Since 2018, Rondine and the Permanent Mission of Italy to the United Nations have been jointly promoting an annual follow-up event at the United Nations Headquarters, where Rondine students discuss international developments in the fields of peace, human rights and transformative peace education together with diplomats, policymakers, and experts from all over the world. Through these events, youth participants highlight recommendations on identifying warning signs, focusing on how to defuse new and re-emerging tensions, and how to support youth peace leadership in an increasingly fragile post-pandemic world.

Bridging the Financing Gap: Unleashing the Potential of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs).
Under this session, two panels will be convened to discuss how to increase SMEs' access to finance in order to unlock their full potential. Panelists include regulators, industry associations, financiers, multinationals, SMEs and technology platform representatives. The objective of the session is to highlight proposed actions that can be taken to unlock the potential of SMEs and strengthen their ability to contribute to the implementation of the SDGs.
Lead Facilitators:
UNCTAD
International Trade Centre (ITC)
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) make a significant contribution to global trade flows and economic value within countries. SMEs account for over 90 per cent of all business worldwide and are responsible for more than two-thirds of jobs created, including for vulnerable groups such as women and youth. They are the SDG drivers on the ground as they deal with local and regional challenges and are key in promoting innovation and contributing to the greening of industries and the energy transition. Yet access to affordable and timely financing and participation in value chains at global, regional, and domestic level remain a key challenge, hampering their economic and social contribution.
The outcome of the discussions will be fed into major international events and the Report of the UN Secretary-General on Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Development.

Transforming Multilateralism for Social Justice and Inclusion.
The COVID-19 Pandemic underscores the importance of social justice and inclusion to strengthen global resilience to crises. Despite major progress in social development since the 1995 World Summit for Social Development, the pandemic has evidenced enduring inequalities and exclusion dynamics, resulting in a disproportionate impact on vulnerable communities. Last October, Club de Madrid hosted its Annual Policy Dialogue on Multilateralism that Delivers. A Working Group chaired by Friedrich Ebert Stiftung presented a policy brief on Transforming Multilateralism for 21st Century Social Justice and Inclusion. Among the Working Group's recommendations is a call for a new global compact on social development.  This side event aims to share the Working Group's recommendations with a broader community of global stakeholders and build momentum around the call for a new global compact on social development among UN institutions, Member States, and civil society.

Full offense but if as a queer goy your first response to “Jewish people are in danger because of Kanye West’s antisemitic comments” is “they’ll come for queer people after they come for the Jews, we need to act” you should really be asking yourself why you need to make this about queer people and not Jewish people to care enough to act. Like yes this isn’t good for anyone but why does it need to be about you for you to care. Queer Jews are already in danger from this. Are we not human enough for you to give a shit about us?
