How many AUs do you have exactly? And could you give a small description of each of them?
oh boy, fella. I have 16 major a.us. I hope you’re ready to read all of this. I’ll give it to you in order of Creation.
A Universe Apart (AUA): an au where Max kept the toybox powers after 304, and avoided 305 entirely, then he was separated from Sam and lost in an alternate universe(TCB). He eventually finds his way to the Multiverse Station, and he currently lives there, waiting for him Sam to show up.
The Coffee Shop (TCS): A simple au about Sam and Max being baristas instead of freelance police (max is about as tall as sam in this au), unfortunately they had to leave their universe and move into the Multiverse Station due to 305.
The Conscious Beast (TCB): an au where Max had no control of his body in 305, and he had to watch himself destroy the world, leaving it as a snowy wasteland. Sam eventually saves Max, but by that point Sam is very old, and about to die. Grief ridden, Max leaves his Au to the Multiverse station, since there’s nothing left in his Au, not even his lover. (TCB is a Twin AU to AUA)
Multi-Shot (MS): A western au where Max acts strangely after being found alive after 305. Sam later discovered to his horror, that whatever was summoned during that incident had hollowed out Max’s body, and was using it as a shell to live in, similar to an empty porcelain doll. Sam escapes to the Multiverse Station after Max killed everyone in their Au, but Max followed, with a smile stuck on it’s face that is permanently unmoving.
Mafia: a simple au following the thought process of what sam and max would be like if they were in the mafia. Max is the head of the mafia, known as Maxine in his home Au. Sam is his silent yet deadly bodyguard, and husband (their marriage was arranged). Maxine ends up fleeing from his Au with his “family” after he learns of what happens after 305. he flees to the Multiverse station, and makes a place called “The Territory”, where Station rules do not apply.
Fancy Lads (FL): A steampunk themed au that takes place in the domed city of Lunetopia, Sam is a 21 year old, and he’s a wealthy inventor, due to his rich parents giving him plenty of money. He finds his life boring, as there’s no struggle to get what he wants, so he invents things. Max is a 17 year old street rat who cons people for money to buy food. Max lives without a heart, the lust vice, because he let the famous Hugh Bliss take it from him when he was 8. Sam and Max meet by pure coincidence one night, and they’re practically inseparable afterwards.
Slice of Life (SOL): A simple Au about Sam and Max’s life after they technically retire due to almost no crime in the world being committed thanks to them. They don’t receive calls from the commissioner anymore, and Darla’s grown up a bit (they adopted her). Sam kinda got into techy things again, and also played his guitar more, he also got into gardening. Max started wearing clothes again to make himself feel good inside, and got into late night history shows, so now he’s a bit of a conspiracy nut. Did I mention that they’re happily married?
Human: An au set in around 2019 that’s just “what if sam and max were humans?”. Sam and Max are extremely young detectives, as early 20’s in the Human Au is like being 12 in the real world, this is because everything has an elongated life in the Au, humans live to be 120, cats live to be 60, and dogs live to be 40. One day Max suddenly disappeared form his au, leaving Sam to panic and worry about where he was. Max was traveling the multiverse with a friend he had made back in high school, her name was Darla, and she was from the TCB Au.
The Wonderful World of Murder (TWWOM): A 1950’s au about Max being a murderous housewife named Maxilla. Maxilla kills to quiet the voices in her head she got when she was young, she acquired these voices from her version of the devil’s toybox, she killed her abusive father and brothers after opening the box. She let her caring mother live. Maxilla kills when the voices are too powerful now, and she marries people so she can kill them in cold blood. Sam is her latest husband, and she wants to kill him, but she can’t bring herself to do it. This is because She actually loves him. (TWWOM is a twin au to SOL)
Reboot: an au that takes place in the 2017 reboot of the sam and max tv show, but sam and max obtained sentience during the reboot. Panic ensues between Sam and Max as everything looks different, even themselves. The rebooted show was made for a similar demographic as the original show, babies, but modern censorship and guidelines left the show as a Dora the explorer-esc nightmare for Sam and Max to try to escape from. Premier episodes showed Sam and Max attempting to follow the plot they didn’t know about or understand, but re-runs showed what should’ve happened. Eventually at the season finale, with a little help from TCB Darla, Sam and Max escaped the show, but not before swearing on live tv to get the show pulled from the air (Max also did the middle finger). Now Sam and Max run a Multiverse Detectives agency, and are enjoying life outside of that fresh baby hell of a show. (Reboot is an Au inside of the Human Au)
The Dream King (TDK): An au that follows Max as he creates a kingdom in a white void following a tragic event that left him in a coma. Max barely registers that he’s dreaming, but he paints a world to live in, and he paints people to live in it. He paints what he remembers of his life, and he desperately tries to paint Sam’s face. He eventually discovers that he can appear in the Multiverse Station through projecting. He’s always tired in the multiverse station, but he can do stuff like teleport there. One day wile he was sleeping in the station, he felt a sharp pain in his chest that fully woke him up for the first time. It was in that moment that he realized that he had just died in the real world.
Noir: a noir au that follows Sam as he solves crimes across New York as a detective, one day he begins to receive calls from someone who calls themselves “the Accountant”, but Sam calls them “The Individual” just to tick them off. The Individual gives Sam increasingly vague cases to solve, all the while Sam is trying to figure out who The Individual is. Sam gets a break in his case when Lil Doll, a wooden doll who thinks Sam is head over heels about her, let’s it slip that she knows who the accountant is, she’d been playing dumb about him the whole time. It’s revealed that the Accountant/ the Individual is a lagomorph named Velveteen. This universe’s Max.
CyberSteam (CS): an au about a world that is simultaneously steam and cyberpunk at the same time. In this universe, Sam and max are actually police officers, and they take their job very seriously. The main criminal they’re against is an individual named EXXON, an infamous criminal known for hijacking Police Officers via the special chip on the sides of their heads that allow them to enter an overdrive mode. EXXON causes havoc with the skills they have with technology, and love to see Sam and Max suffer after they hijack their chips. EXXON is later revealed to be this universe’s Darla, and does all of this to spite their universe, as they’ve already discovered the Multiverse station, and is friends with MS Max.
Imaginary Friends O.mitted N.ightmare; L.ose Y.ourself (IF O.N.L.Y): An au about Max as he just graduated from high school, and is working as a bookstore assistant in the town of Twilight Hills. Things go downhill for Max as his terrible home life is seemingly affecting his mental health more than usual he begins to disassociate from reality, thinking he’s in the world of his favorite book series “If Only Solved”, written by the mysterious Mr. O.N.L.Y, he also kept talking about being able to see the protagonist of the books, a dog named Sam. His childhood friend Darla, and his therapist Sybil desperately try to help him, but their efforts are in vain as Max is suddenly found dead in the lake one day. Darla is grief stricken as she lost her closest friend, so much so that she tries to figure out why he died so suddenly, despite Sybil’s efforts to calm her down. Darla eventually discovers that Max isn’t the only person to suddenly die after becoming disassociated, and seeing the dog from the If Only Solved books, over a thousand people have met a similar fate. And every single one of those people died only a few months after a character very similar to themselves appeared in the story. Darla suddenly notices that her laptop was acting up, there was a second cursor on her screen, and then the notes page suddenly opened, she thought she had a virus until she saw words being typed out onto the note. she and Sybil learned that she was somehow communicating with two individuals who had died after reading the books, their names were Dr. Esal Horizon, and Arthur Papier, or better known as Hugh Bliss and Anton Papierwate in the books. The two men had been stuck in a purgatory designed after the book world for some time now, and they only now have access to someone in the living world because of Max’s arrival. (Sorry if that one’s super long, I just put a lot of thought into how it works, I didn’t even touch the purgatory’s story)
The Nowhere Diner (TND): A 50’s au where Sam and Max work at a diner, and Darla is a little brat that won’t stop showing up. Their life is thrown into chaos when an alien invasion hits the nearby city, and they have to go to a bunker to be safe, a long road trip with the annoying kid ensues. (TND is a Twin Au to TCS)
The Ancestral Lineage (TAL): A 30’s au that follows Sammeth and Maximus as they go about their day to day life of being detectives, and figuring out Maximus’ hereditary powers. One day, an unknown pile of Maximus’ fur creates a baby, and to Maximus’ dismay, he loves the baby, and names it Kana. Maximus’ family is descended from the God of Angels, and that’s where Maximus’ powers come from.
and there you go, all 16 a.us summarized in the best way I could! I left details out of some of them so they weren’t super long.

Stuck With You
Percabeth | ~2.5k words | quarantine contentRead on ao3 here!
Whoa, whoa, oh
Baby, come take all my time
Go on, make me lose my mind
We got all that we need here tonight
Understanding Annabeth has never been easy for Percy.
He had gotten better over the years, to the point where he knew her better than herself. He can name the meaning behind every slightest move she does, the way her lips curl downwards ever so slightly, her eyes turning steely when she is irritated, the way her eyebrows shoot up every time she sees something challenging, the way her face flushes when she is cold, the scrunch of her nose when she is upset, he can go on. But sometimes she does something very unpredictable and it throws him for a loop, and he turns back into his awkward 14-year-old self who was struggling to goddamn understand why his best friend was cold to him all of a sudden.
It had only gotten 10-fold since she was pregnant now. It didn't help that they were cooped up together 24/7.
He loved her with his whole being, don't get him wrong, but sometimes she can be as impulsive as him, and he wonders how they work as well as they do. They are a deadly mix to put together. but, oh well.
Her mood swings would switch from one extreme to another in a matter of seconds, and sue him for struggling to keep up with them. Sometimes she claims it becomes too stuffy with him around all the time and locks herself away for a long time (he tries not to feel hurt by that, he knows it's her hormones taking over) other times she is overly affectionate, clinging to him all day demanding snuggles. he doesn't complain. Well, most of the time.
Like today morning, she waddled out of their room, clad in nothing but one of his old sweatshirts, that was too large for even him. he noted with a surge of affection that it wasn't too baggy on her, her bump filling out the front, the hem reaching to mid of her thighs.
she had bags under her eyes after working all night the previous day, despite his efforts to get her to bed( he almost always succeeded, but yesterday she was being extra stubborn “wanting to complete her designs before today morning.”).her hair was in a messy bun on top of her head, a few strands escaping and framing her face, the golden light seeping through curtains highlighting her features.
He watched amused as she shuffled towards him with a slight pout on her face, and declared she wanted him to cuddle her. sleep deprivation brings out the cuddler in Annabeth is a fact he learned early in their relationship.
But he had been working on an important worksheet test for his class that would amount to 40% for their grade and he couldn't afford to slack off. And he told her as much.
But she only huffed, undeterred, before coming over to him and moving his things out of the way haphazardly despite his protests before curling up in his lap to take a nap. his wife was nothing but determined.
Percy was too amused and endeared to say anything or shove her off him (he wouldn't do that, obviously).so he gave in and carefully balanced his laptop and papers on his thigh that wasn't occupied by a mop of blond curls, to work on them silently while his other hand automatically went to play with her curls like it belonged there, working out the knots and scratching at her scalp occasionally.
A lazy smile tugged at the corners of his lips as she let out a content sigh. Annabeth's love language was physical touch, another fact he caught on to after a while of them dating. he had been awkward and shy with his touches at first, but she had had always been bold, to take his hands and kiss him in public. he has gotten used to it now, to an extent where they get called out by their friends for too much PDA.and Annab- he is getting off track, he has work, he has to remind himself.
He worked on his paper for a while getting lost in the morning bliss before he felt a poke on his thigh that almost made him jump. he looked down at her accusingly only to find her eyes closed not so innocently that he couldn't help but roll his eyes fondly at. he continued working until he felt another poke that made him look at her again, but this time she was looking up at him through her long lashes, with a pout to complete The look.
"Give me attention," she asked, almost whiny.
"Babe, angel, love, 'Beth, I've gotta get this done by tomorrow and I have barely got anything done," he said as patiently as he could.
"But I want attention. are you going to deny your pregnant wife?" she asked, pouting her lips even more for emphasis.
"Oh you love pulling that card, don't you," he sighed dramatically even though his smile said otherwise, before bending on his waist to press a chaste kiss to her lips, his fingers caressing her cheek gently before pulling away, "there, you have it."
Annabeth chased his lips and let out another whine that he couldn't help the chuckle that bubbled in his throat.
"You call that attention man?"
"Yes. very much so. but if you let me do this boring stuff now, later I can give you all my attention," he proposed wiggling his eyebrows suggestively.
Her face scrunched up adorably and she pushed his face away playfully.
"Gross. why am I dating you again?"
"Something about being married and being together forever? I am not sure though," he rolled his eyes playfully.
"Hmm. Weird, I don't remember agreeing to any of that," she added.
"The big stone on your finger says otherwise," he says distractedly, already going back to his work. and as much as kissing his wife sounded tempting-he had work.
He made it for a whole 40 seconds before he felt her pinching his sides.
He tried feigning annoyance, but there is only so much Percy is immune to, and Pouty Annabeth isn't one of them. even he can feel his facàde crumbling.
"You are not going to let me be, are you?" he asked, with clear mirth in his voice. Annabeth only shrugged in response.
"You know, if the roles were reversed and if it were you in my position and I in yours, I would have been judo flipped 2 minutes into the conversation," he said, his hands moving to her swollen belly to caress it.
"Oh absolutely. But you are all soft on me, so you wouldn't do that," she says to him in a chirpy tone, clearly pleased with the fact she got to him easily.
"Keep telling yourself that,"
"Oh please, your mom taught you better than to judo flip a pregnant woman," she says dryly.
Just then an idea struck him and he moved from under her to stand up already holding a hand out to help her to her feet.
She scowled at him at first, annoyed that her personal pillow was gone, but squawked when he tugged her to her feet in a swift.
"What are you doing!"
He pulled his phone out quickly, tapping away to find what he intended to, ignoring Annabeth's grumbling. he hit the play button and threw his phone on the couch before turning to her.
She looked at him confused before the sound of a familiar song reached her and she rolled her eyes fondly.
"You are so sappy," she poked at his sides before winding her arms around his neck and dropping her head to his chest, and nestling close to him as much as her bump would allow her.
"What! You asked for attention! And dancing definitely qualifies as a top-tier form of attention." He added smirking lopsidedly. he felt her smile against his chest.
Percy moved his hands to her waist, circling around it securely and dropping his cheek to rest on top of her incredibly soft curls. His hands rubbed her back soothingly, kneading her back.
" I'm not one to stick around-"
It was their first wedding dance song. he had no clue as to what the song was when Annabeth first played it to him and asked his opinion. (he was more into punk-rock and he wasn't sure Annabeth would allow a punk song to be their first wedding dance song)
"Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Got all this time on my hands
Might as well cancel our plans, yeah
I could stay here for a lifetime-"
He pulls back and twirls her. she laughs and snorts at the same time, which is unbelievably cute. he pulls her back to his chest, hips lining like puzzle pieces fitting each other, and sways them from side to side.
"What happened to your work Mr. I-am-oh-so-busy Jackson?" Even though he couldn't see her, he knew for a fact her eyebrows were raised in question, lips pulled into a soft smile.
He shook his head trying not to smile, "Oh, it can wait, Mrs. I-want-attention Jackson, "He told her earnestly.
Annabeth didn't hold back her laugh as he twirled her again and pulled her close, chest to chest this time.
Her hands went around his waist and she laid her head back on his chest, warmth seeping through his thin shirt. That was enough for them, being in each other's presence, holding each other, feeling their pulses beat in rhythm. no words had to be spoken, she knew him like the back of her hand and he knew her just as well.
He has known Annabeth for more than a decade, been together for the better half of it, but he still learns new things about her every day.it was fascinating to see her in her world. the small waddle she does now, how her palms seem to almost always rest on her bump. his heart couldn't handle the surge of affection he felt for her.
he nudged her temple with his nose affectionately and kissed it for good measure, lingering there and breathing her in.
"So lock the door
And throw out the key
Can't fight this no more
It's just you and me-"
"You smell weird," Percy did not intend for it to come out the way it did, really. she smelled good. Really good, in fact. she has always smelt like citrus, Vanilla, and home. now it was more tender, motherly. The thought brought immense joy to him. they were going to be parents, a fact he still hasn't gotten his head around. Soon they would have a little girl running around with blond curls in pigtails and gray eyes throwing witty comments just like her mom. his smile widened even more if that was even possible.
He felt a kick to his shin and winced.
"Ow! hey- why would you do that!"
"You were being mean!"
"It was a compliment!"
She tilted her head to the side and her eyebrows shot to her hairline.
"I am not sure you have the right definition of compliment"
"You didn't let me complete! I just meant you smell different," her eyebrows rose again "good different! Like a motherly smell!"
Her scowl slowly morphed into a smile that she tried to hide and he swore he could see her eyes tearing up just a little bit.
She sniffed and dropped her forehead to his shoulder.
"Well make it sound like one next time, asshole."
Percy snickered and he felt her laugh more than see it as she shook with it.
"There's nowhere we need to be
No, no, no
I'ma get to know you better
Kinda hope we're here forever
There's nobody on these streets
If you told me that the world's ending
Ain't no other way that I could spend it-"
He ducked his head and nudged her head with his nose repeatedly until she looked up.
"Hey, hey, hey, hey-"
"What." she propped her chin on his chest to look up at him. He placed a kiss on her nose taking advantage of the height difference that always annoyed her. she feigned annoyance, though he could see her lips pulling into a smile.
"We are building something permanent."
She was now beaming at him, forgetting her previous attempt to stay mad at him.
"Thank you for marrying me," she voiced quietly, looking at him as if he hung the stars and the moon.
"Of course, you doofus. There is no one else I would be stuck with for the rest of my life," he added cheekily, returning her contagious smile. but they both knew he meant it without a doubt. he was her moon and she was his world, they gravitated and revolved around each other, finding each other no matter how lost they were.
Annabeth's eyes shone with unshed tears, though she looked ecstatic as rose to her tiptoes and brought her lips up to his, her hands going to hold his face. he returned it happily, smiling widely when she bit his bottom lip and sucked on it lightly. he held her tightly, yet gently his fingers tracing out random patterns on her exposed stomach. it soon turned into lazy drawn-out sweet kisses and to just smiles pressed against each other.
"So go ahead and drive me insane
Baby, run your mouth
I still wouldn't change
All this lovin' you, hatin' you, wantin' you-
He pulled away and rested his forehead against her.
"I love you. I love you so so so so so much," he said punctuating each word with a kiss peppered all over her face.
She laughed and moved her face away from him, her palms pushing his face out of the way. he simply grabbed her hands and placed a kiss on her palm before kissing each of her fingers, lingering on her ring finger before lacing their fingers together and holding them to his heart. Annabeth placed a kiss on his chest on top of his shirt and murmured a quiet I love you.
They danced, swayed, and kissed for a while, living in the small bubble they created for themselves, in the middle of their living room, plans cancelled, works forgotten, stuck in their own world. Percy couldn't have cared less if an asteroid hit the earth right then, he would stay there forever with the love of his life.
"Oh I'm stuck with you, stuck with you, stuck with You
Stuck with you, stuck with you, stuck with you"

French police, protesters clash after Macron calls police fatal shooting of teen 'inexcusable'
It was the second night of violence in the Paris suburb of Nanterre even as the government heightened the police presence in Paris and other big cities.
Tumblr media
NANTERRE: Police clashed with protesters overnight just hours after French President Emmanuel Macron called the shooting death of a 17-year-old delivery driver by police “inexcusable” and pleaded for calm while justice takes its course.
It was the second night of violence in the Paris suburb of Nanterre even as the government heightened the police presence in Paris and other big cities Wednesday after the killing triggered a night of scattered violence.
Fires could be seen burning at some intersections in the suburb and protesters shot fireworks at police, video from the suburb showed.
The death of 17-year-old Nael during a traffic check Tuesday in the Paris suburb of Nanterre elicited nationwide concern and widespread messages of indignation and condolences. French soccer star Kylian Mbappe tweeted: “I hurt for my France.” Nael’s surname has not been released by authorities or by his family.
Nael’s mother called for a silent march Thursday in his honour on the square where he was killed, while French activists renewed calls to tackle what they see as systemic police abuse. Government officials condemned the killing and sought to distance themselves from the police officer’s actions.
“Nothing justifies the death of a young person,” Macron told reporters in Marseille, calling what happened “inexplicable and inexcusable.”
Videos of the incident shared online show two police officers leaning into the driver-side window of a yellow car before the vehicle pulls away as one officer fires into the window. The car is later seen crashed into a post nearby.
The victim, who was driving the car, was wounded by a gunshot and died at the scene, the prosecutor’s office said in a statement. A passenger in the car was briefly detained and released, and police are searching for another passenger who fled.
Anger over the killing spawned unrest in multiple towns around Paris. Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said 31 people were arrested, 24 police officers injured and 40 cars burned in overnight unrest.
The police officer suspected of firing on Nael remains in custody and faces potential manslaughter charges, according to the Nanterre prosecutor’s office.
The Nanterre neighbourhood where Nael lived remained on edge Wednesday, with police on guard around the regional administration and burned car wreckage and overturned garbage bins still visible in some areas. Bouquets of orange and yellow roses were tied to the post where the car crashed after the shooting, on Nanterre’s Nelson Mandela Square.
Speaking to Parliament on Wednesday, Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne said, “The shocking images broadcast yesterday show an intervention that clearly appears as not complying with the rules of engagement of our police forces.”
Deadly use of firearms is less common in France than in the United States. Tuesday’s death unleashed anger in Nanterre and other towns, including around housing projects where many residents struggle with poverty and discrimination and feel police abuse is under-punished.
Several people have died or sustained injuries at the hands of French police in recent years, prompting demands for more accountability. France also saw protests against racial profiling and other injustice in the wake of George Floyd’s killing by police in Minnesota.
Macron called for calm and for respect for Nael’s loved ones. Asked about police abuses, he said justice should be allowed to run its course.
Interior Minister Darmanin said 1,200 police were deployed overnight and 2,000 would be out in force Wednesday in the Paris region and around other big cities to “maintain order.”
A lawyer for Nael’s family, Yassine Bouzrou, told The Associated Press they want the police officer pursued for murder instead of manslaughter, and want the investigation handed to a different region because they fear Nanterre investigators won’t be impartial.
The lawyers rejected a reported statement by the police officers that they believed their lives were in danger because the driver had threatened to run them over.
Mbappe, who grew up in the Paris suburb of Bondy, was among those who were shocked by what happened.
“I hurt for my France. Unacceptable situation. All my thoughts go to the family and loved ones of Nael, this little angel gone much too soon,” he tweeted.

Omg how about squid game au with dabi as one of the vip guests and reader as a player? That could be a beautiful mess!
Tumblr media
Squid Game AU - VIP Guest!Dabi x Player!Reader
Squid Game AU Masterlist.
TW: Slight Dubcon Touching, Implied Dubcon Smut, just a hint of prostitution (but not really), Mentions of Murder and Violence (in the context of the games).
“Player 022,” he says, ice in his voice and fire in his gaze as he watches, watches and watches again through the tall screens depicting the busy dormitories. There she is, that quiet, seemingly shy little player, the one everyone looks past at, the one who’s still so smart she brings everyone to their knees in the games without any of them even realizing it.
She's a wolf in sheep's clothing, pretty and yet deadly like a cute little flower hiding poisonous thorns beneath its colorful petals.
Dangerous. Fascinating.
“Bring her to me.”
One night, you’re taken out of the dormitory. No one tells you why or where you’re going, the Masked Staff silent as ever, their demeanor even more annoying than usual in the way they avoid every single one of your questions. Did you make a mistake, break a rule? Are they going to kick you out of the game, kill you, maybe?
They don’t answer, and you’re left wondering as they take you through long hallways lined with numbered doors, empty rooms with tall ceilings, and then to a luxurious elevator, up, up, up towards the sky and the highest floor. The place is pretty, walls an inky black covered with little hints of gold, and you can’t help but notice the difference with the players’ dormitory, so white and impersonal the mere color makes you want to puke now that you’ve spent a few days locked there.
You like the black and gold, though.
The same colors cover the bathroom you’re taken to so that you can shower (a luxury you’re pretty sure no one else has been granted), and they’re also the ones tinting the fabric of the elegant clothes you’re given to wear.
They take your ugly, filthy sweats away, and you’re dressed like a doll waiting for someone to play with it.
You can guess that’s exactly what’s going to happen.
Once you’re done, once you’re clean and pretty, once your hair is soft and silky to the touch and your skin doesn’t reek of sweat and blood anymore, the two Masked Guys that took you away from the other players open two tall doors leading to what looks like a luxurious hotel suite. You expect them to follow you as they’ve done all this time, but instead they simply close the doors behind you, trapping you there, leaving you on your own.
Alone, with him.
His gaze never leaves you while you slowly step into the room. It’s blue and cold, as icy as his posture; a leg lazily leaning over the other, chin resting in the palm of his hand. He’s dressed all in black, the only hint of color being the thin gold mask hiding his features from your eyes.
It’s shaped like the face of a wolf.
“Why am I here?” You ask, and the slightest smirk pulls at his mismatched lips, his lower face the only part not being covered by the mask elegantly following the shape of his nose and temples.
He stands then, and you shiver at each of the steps he takes towards you, his gait swift and silent like a cat’s. His fingers brush against your bare shoulder, and he scoffs at the surprised hiss you let out at the warm contact.
“You’ve caught my interest. Let’s say I wanted to give you an out.”
His hand snakes around your waist, pulling you to him as he leans towards you, rough lips brushing against your ear when he murmurs:
“Leave the game.”
He leaves a soft, barely there kiss on the skin of your throat.
“I’d hate seeing a pretty thing like you die so soon.”
Silence fills the room for a second, then two.
“Leaving the game would mean saying goodbye to the prize money,” you say, voice calm and yet calculating, a cold proposal that you’re making him. “Would you give me 40 million dollars?”
He laughs, mocking, cruel.
“40 million? I’d give you more.”
His digits trace the shape of your spine, conveniently bare in the dress he chose for you.
“You’d have to make it worth such an amount of money, though.”
Warm fingers slip beneath the black fabric, settling on your hip.
“It means you’d be mine for life.”
No returns, no refunds. You hear it in his voice: there would be no coming back from whatever this is. He’d own you, everything you are and ever will be, and in return, you’d have everything you’d ever dreamed of.
Money. Happiness. Safety from everything except from his hands.
Or you could walk away from his offer, earn your freedom by yourself and emerge from the game with blood on your hands. It would mean keeping your freedom while taking the risk to lose everything else, including your life.
The answer was easy.
You’d scammed so many others in the past. What was another billionaire to add to your list of victims?
You weren’t part of this game for nothing, after all.
“I’ll be yours,” you whisper, fingers softly brushing against the fabric of his shirt’s collar, gently pulling at it until his lips are but a breath away from yours. “Give me all of it and more, and you’ll have me forever.”
He laughs against your lips, and there’s something scary in his voice as he does so, something terrifying in the way he steals your breath away in a searing kiss just a second after.
“Oh, believe me, angel, I’ll give you much, much more.”
And it should be the opposite because you’re the scammer and he’s the victim but for the first time, you feel like a weak little rabbit trapped between the claws of a merciless, bloodthirsty wolf.
But there’s no turning back now, so you say the very last word that will seal your fate.
“Deal.”

The Dark One’s Choice
As announced, I finally polished (and finished) my Dark One smut fic, sooo if you’re one of @swanqueensalad‘s horny followers (aren’t we all) or otherwise inclined to read the closest thing to smut I’ve ever written, here goes:
~5k
rating: m
mildly dubious consent, sub/dom hints, choking, restraints, power play, angst, canon-compliant
don’t like don’t read ^^
The great grandfather clock in the hallway shows half past 1 at night when Regina passes it, finally on her way to bed after a long day. Her thoughts have kept her alert until now, the risk of Emma, now as the Dark One, turning up at her doorstep to demand to have Henry too high to let her relax properly. And then there is the gaping hole in her memories, a condition she's familiar with but which still annoys her in no small measure. One moment the gates of Camelot swing open for her, the dagger pressing to her side in the warm promise of Emma's trust, then the next second she's flat on the floor of Granny's Diner, faced with Emma in full Dark One apparel, mercilessly glaring down at her. Accusing and dangerous and assuring to punish them all, though her cold eyes were on Regina only, sending a shiver down her spine that consisted of trepidation and arousal in equal measures.
Regina shudders just remembering the low purr of the Dark One's voice, the radiated dominance so different from the kind of nervous excitement that usually accompanies Emma's talks with Regina. Different, yes, but not necessarily worse, Regina thinks, the naughty admission painting an unexpected smirk on her lips, and she permits a silent chuckle before calling herself back to order. She mustn't enjoy nor underestimate the saviour's dark side. Quite the contrary, to save Emma from herself, and the rest of town from Emma, it is crucial that Regina stays alert and focuses on figuring out a way to get rid of darkness once and for all. So, no unnecessary risks. Constant vigilance.
Right on cue, the doorbell rings and startles Regina back into reality. She throws a glance at the clock. 1:40, not exactly a reasonable time for visitors, even in this tense situation. Besides, Snow, or David, and even the pirate, would have rather called to talk than walked through nightly Storybrooke with a new Dark One on the loose. No, Regina decides, it has to be Emma herself who's on her porch, now pressing the bell again.
Regina swears under her breath; if she doesn't put an end to this, Emma will wake up Henry. On the other hand, opening the door would violate the very set of rules she has just established. There's just no easy way out of this.
Emma ends up making the decision for her when suddenly greyish smoke forms right in front of Regina, vanishing to reveal the familiar frame of the saviour. Her lips set in a thin straight line, the green eyes as expressionless as earlier, she stands and looks at Regina. Just takes her in. Regina feels her skin starting to tingle when a flash of hunger crosses Emma's features, and she's suddenly all too aware of the red velvet dress she's still wearing, clinging to her curves.
"What are you doing here?" She asks when Emma still hasn't moved to talk after several seconds. Her voice is calm, only the slightest hitch in her throat betraying her racing heart. Emma is close, far too close, the aura of power that surrounds her enclosing Regina as well. She's always had a weakness for great wizardry she supposes, the mixture of envy and admiration an exhilarating drug running through her veins, and she welcomes it like an old friend.
"After weeks of sleeping wall to wall with my parents," Emma finally answers, her tone as cool and indifferent as if she were talking about the weather, "I now have the opportunity to take what I want." And she steps even closer, now bare inches separating their bodies.
A sudden fright befalls Regina, her heart fluttering weakly in her chest, colibri-like. She almost doesn't dare to ask for clarification. What if Emma has changed her mind somewhere along the way, realizing that sacrificing herself for Regina has been a mistake after all? What if she's here to make Regina pay for that mistake? What if this is revenge?
"Which is what?" Regina still whispers, hoping against all odds for a, what, fourth chance by now? But no such luck this time; Emma's eyes harden and she raises her chin. Her voice is but a whisper, her lips carefully forming the word:
"You."
Regina closes her eyes for just a second, absorbing the impact without allowing Emma to witness the emotions flickering through her mind. A second is all Emma should need to finish matters once and for all, but it passes without either of them moving and when Regina glances up at Emma again she's surprised to find a tiny glint of amusement in the depths of her eyes. And then that glint changes, grows darker, twisted, and funnily enough, heated, burning with an intensity that makes Regina automatically lower her gaze.
A throaty chuckle vibrates through Emma's body. She waves her hand, and the next thing Regina feels is the cool tapestry of the wall against her back and Emma's grip tight around her wrists, pinning her down. A hot breath tickles her earlobe when the blonde leans forward in the same movement, teeth grazing Regina's skin.
"Control is mine now. Is that understood?" Emma whispers huskily, fleetingly biting down on the sensitive flesh right under Regina's ear.
Regina can barely stifle a moan and she feels her knees grow weak. It would be so easy to give in, the fulfilling of late night dreams and poorly repressed fantasies right in front of her - but she can't. This, what's happening, is the Dark One's choice, not Emma's. And while the darkness might be prevailing in Emma's mind right now, it doesn't mean Emma isn't still in there somewhere, fighting and protesting. And when she returns and the darkness is extinguished - an act Regina will accomplish and if it so takes years - Emma will have to face regrets enough. A nightly adventure with the Queen doesn't have to be among them.
So Regina summons her strengths, and resists. Pulling away from Emma's touch as much as possible in the confined space at her disposal, she shakes her head and squares her shoulders.
"I don't think so, no."
The rage wells up in Emma immediately, her hands clenching around Regina's wrists until it hurts but Regina neither flinches nor backs down. She can tell that Emma didn't expect defiance from the way her eyes widen a fracture before darkening to a near black.
"What?"
The whisper is deadly, a promise of pain if Regina were to repeat her words. Well, Regina can handle pain, if something greater is at stake. And so she raises her chin and holds Emma's glance, proudly and with all the indifference she doesn't really feel.
"I said no, I won't defer to you. Magic doesn't make you my leader and I refuse to - "
"I am the Dark One," Emma roars and Regina once again thinks of Henry asleep upstairs. She prays he won't wake up and choose to see what's causing the commotion, or she will lose some serious ground to Emma. Maybe playing up hasn't been the best plan after all, but she can't revise her strategy now.
"I see that," Regina consequently bites right back, hoping that if she only appears strong enough, Emma will step back eventually. "But it doesn't change the fact that I won't yield to you."
It's only when the expression in Emma's changes again, turning almost playful, that Regina realizes the mistake she's made by counting on Emma's rationality. Magic is based on emotions, and since the Dark One's powers are still relatively new to Emma, she is bound to act unpredictably. Well, this brings a whole new danger to this nightly encounter. Regina's suddenly glad that her provocation didn't fuel Emma's anger. In fact, Emma is eyeing her almost fondly, leisurely letting her eyes take in every tiny aspect of Regina's complexion. The scrutiny inadvertently brings the colour to Regina's cheeks and a smirk on Emma's face.
"You don't really mean that."
And then, without another word of warning, Emma surges forward again and captures Regina's lips with hers before the mayor can dodge her. A yelp of surprise escapes Regina. She tries to jerk back, except she can't, Emma has her trapped against the wall, pressing down on her with the full length of her body. A shudder passes through Regina upon that realization, making her skin tingle and setting her nerves aflame. Never would she have thought that Emma's touch could have such an effect on her. And the kiss, the saviour's lips moving on Regina's almost feverishly. They are dry and slightly chapped under the crimson lipstick and Regina finds herself sinking into them, answering Emma's harsh bites with tentative nibbles on her own part.
But no, she must not delight in this. She has to keep a clear head, because while she is kissing Emma's lips and inhaling Emma's perfume, she has to remember that it's not Emma's mind who's in control here. And so, although a long, leather-covered leg is slowly wedging itself between Regina's, making her feel all kinds of things, including a very dominant throbbing at her core, Regina uses a momentary distraction on Emma's part to push against the arms confining her and turn her head away.
"Stop," she says, intending to sound firm, but it comes out as a strangled moan instead. Miraculously, Emma still seems to have heard her, because she pulls back slightly to look at Regina. Her eyes are darker than Regina has ever seen them and for a moment she feels her resolve weaken, but she masterfully ignores the dryness in her throat and pushes against Emma's shoulders again.
"Let me go," she demands when Emma doesn't budge, instead watching her with the faintest annoyance in the tilt of her head. Regina pushes again, a petulant move rather than a well-considered one. She should have known better than to provoke the Dark One further, but her skin is burning, and she just needs Emma to back off before she'll commit a whole different folly. And who would have known it would be just this little extra push that makes Emma snap.
But it is and the angry flashing of familiar green eyes is all the warning Regina gets before a hand wraps around her throat, constricting her airways.
"Why do you keep resisting?" Emma growls, her voice inhuman, feral. "I can see how you want this," she wriggles her leg slightly and Regina gasps when it rubs against her hot centre. It takes all her self control not to thrust her hips forward to grind against the leather, and maybe the desperation shows a little in her eyes, because Emma smirks and applies more pressure on Regina's throat.
"So why don't you take it?" She hisses and curls her index finger, the sharp nail scratching against Regina's skin, "Take it."
Suppressing a whimper, Regina feels her body react, a new gush of wetness slowly trickling down the inside of her thighs. She has to put an end to this soon or so help her.
"This is not you talking," she brings out, varying somewhere between a moan and a gasp, the limited access to oxygen finally making her feel light headed and breathless. "The darkness has lowered your inhibitions."
Emma chuckles and brings up her other hand, drawing a slow trail down Regina's stomach. When she feels muscles tensing beneath her touch, she releases a delighted laugh. It's scary how fast her emotions seem to change.
"Oh but dear," she replies, almost conversationally now, her eyes twinkling with some wicked amusement, "that is exactly why it's me talking. The darkness is simply giving me the courage to do what I've been wanting to do for a very long time."
Regina's teeth clench at the easy, un-Emma-like admission, and of course the Dark One notices.
"You don't believe me?" She snarls, suddenly furious again, "Let me prove it."
And not giving Regina a chance to react, Emma's long slender fingers press against Regina's core, cupping her through the velvety fabric of her dress. A strangled moan escapes Regina but before her body can betray her by rolling against the tantalizing touch, she summons her magic and poofs out of Emma's grasp.
Mastering magic in an emotionally turmoiled state is difficult, but Regina has perfected the technique during her long years as the Evil Queen. She materializes on the exact spot she had in mind, several metres away from where Emma had held her, an armchair in front of her, which she grabs on to in need of support. Taking a deep breath and revelling in the feeling of the air streaming in her lungs freely again, she lifts her eyes, fully expecting to see Emma leaning against the wall still. The room is empty though, without a trace of the Dark One.
Regina furrows her brow. Would Emma just leave like that? And let Regina win? It seems highly unlikely, and yet the deserted scene she's presented with suggests it. Disappointment pulses through Regina, but before she can analyse and revoke the feeling, grey smoke envelopes her. It's only due to her marvellous reflexes that Regina manages to jerk away in order to avoid being trapped again when Emma makes her appearance. An infuriating smirk is playing on her lips, which, as Regina shamefully notices while consciously pursing her own mouth, are now devoid of crimson lipstick.
"Missed me?" Emma mouths, a knowing glint in her eyes that only intensifies when Regina attempts to scoff. "Don't forget that I know when you're lying."
This comment throws Regina off balance though she refuses to let it show. It reminds her of Emma, the real Emma, untainted with darkness yet not free of pain. Emma, who through the course of her life has learned to read people to protect herself from getting hurt. Emma, whose superpower may not be perfect, despite all efforts, but with Regina it always is. Emma, who knows her.
For a moment, Regina misses her so much, the loss feels like a sharp knife twisting in her gut. And a moment is all the Dark One needs to bridge the short distance between them and cradle Regina's face in her hands. The touch is almost gentle, Emma's thumbs tracing the line of Regina's cheekbones, and when Regina looks up, she's surprised to notice the tender expression in those green eyes.
"I am still Emma you know," Emma whispers, tugging at a strand of Regina's hair, then placing it delicately behind her ear. "Still me." And then, leaning in with a wicked grin spreading on her lips she adds: "Just look at my powers like an extra gift. Something to give matters some kick..."
Regina swallows, tantalizing images penetrating her mind, colliding and overlapping with those of Emma, the real Emma, with her jutting jaw and hideous leather jackets. She shakes her head to get rid of them, refusing to let the Dark One play with her emotions any longer. It's time the Queen regains some command. For Emma's sake.
"Embracing the darkness doesn't seem very Emma-like," she counters tentatively, testing the waters by also taking a step back. Dark eyes follow her, thin lips drop into a frown, but for now Emma lets her have the distance. She just shrugs.
"Didn't want to waste the potential."
Regina takes another small step back, sees Emma's eyes dart down to her legs, freezes - but still nothing happens. Good. The gap between their bodies allows Regina to gather her wits and think of how she'll handle the situation. Hitherto, it has been Emma who set the pace, hardly giving Regina time to react. This will have to change if the mayor wants to stand any chance against the Dark One. She needs a plan to distract Emma from trying to seduce her, distract her from Henry sleeping upstairs, distract her from using her magic against Regina. And what distraction could be better than a midnight snack?
"Are you hungry? Or did the darkness extinguish this trait too?" She asks as casually as she can muster.
Emma cocks her head, an amused smile flashing over her complexion. Her eyes darken.
"On the contrary. I'm almost insatiable these days."
Regina is sure her cheeks burn brightly pink but she ignores the feeling and clears her throat.
"I meant food."
"Oh, I know what you meant," Emma smirks, disappearing and reemerging a foot closer to Regina in the blink of an eye. The mist has not yet cleared away when she repeats the trick, now standing behind Regina. Their noses are almost touching. "I also know that I'm tired of this chitchat. Why don't you put that mouth to better use elsewhere?"
A groan escapes Regina when Emma's lips once again press against hers. Still she focuses and flicks her hand to escape the Dark One's grip, reappearing on the other side of the armchair. Emma follows her before she can even breathe, pins her down to the chair, effectively demobilising Regina's wrists with her knees.
"Two can play this game," she murmurs against Regina's ear, then sits up. "Your move."
Regina's whole body seems to buzz with nerves, her skin is aflame where Emma's touching her, still she forces herself to think. Emma's magic works faster than hers, but she's inexperienced. She might be more powerful but she lacks self-discipline. If Regina managed to lure her into poofing repeatedly, unnecessarily, maybe she could tire the Dark One while saving her own strength, until eventually she would have the upper hand again.
The heat pulsing through her body is put to good use as Regina channels the energy to her palms, letting them warm up to the point where, if she were to flick her hand, she could conjure a fireball. Then she twists them, reaching for Emma's thighs.
The Dark One jerks back for only a split second, but that is sufficient for Regina who's been awaiting it. She draws her hands free and sends a magic blow at Emma. Just like she predicted, the blonde is sent flying but disappears mid air and grey mist once again embraces Regina. However, she is prepared; jumping up from the chair she creates a shield around where Emma is materializing. A hiss escapes the Dark One, then she throws her head back and laughs, short and hard. Regina's eyes dart to the staircase, to Henry, but fortunately Emma doesn't seem to notice.
"You see, there are advantages to being the Dark One," her voice comes out of nowhere as she breaks free from her cage by poofing a ridiculous amount of seven times until she's facing Regina again. "I love this form of transport."
Regina only smiles tightly, hands already up again. This is her game now. She risks wasting some of her magical energy to create a soundproof spell in the living room, then makes a swooping gesture that hurls the armchair Emma's way. Instead of stopping it, like any sensible user of magic would have, the blonde turns into swirling smoke again, and then again when Regina lets the footrest follow, and even to avoid the decorative tablecloth. It's quite ridiculous really, she's bound to get tired in the matter of minutes, and Regina allows herself a tiny self-satisfied smile. Not many can claim to have tricked the Dark One.
Except her victory only lasts seconds, when suddenly Emma's slender fingers encircle Regina's wrists once more and she's slammed against the wall.
"Oh Regina," Emma purrs in a low voice that seems to buzz through Regina's entire body. "Do you honestly think I don't know what you're trying to do?" Her free hand delivers a soft, almost gentle blow to Regina's cheek. Regina quivers, not from the sting but from the unexpected flash of pleasure that burns through her veins. Who would have thought that Emma harbours sides like this.
Not Emma but the Dark One, Regina tells herself as she stares up at her opponent, who in her turn is eyeing her appreciatively.
"What am I trying to do then?" She utters defiantly, wriggling her hands until Emma is forced to let her go. Without granting herself a second of triumph, Regina snaps her fingers and shiny black metal starts growing around Emma's wrist, holding it effectively in place above her head.
"You think you can exhaust me," Emma smirks, not at all bothered by the constraint, "You think you can lure me into wasting my power until it's drained." Another click of fingers and a chain sprouts from the first cuff, enclosing Emma's other hand and pulling it up too. Still the Dark One doesn't move, doesn't fight it. Regina is beginning to feel a bit uncertain about her plan to bind Emma's wrists. It should render her helpless, incapable of using her magic, so why doesn't she look the least bit concerned? Why is she smiling still?
"This is kinky," Emma mentions, almost conversationally. Regina cocks her head.
"Usually I'm the dominant one," she says, in spite of her instincts' warning not to trust her victory yet. A grave mistake.
"I am the Dark One!" Emma suddenly roars, and never in her life has Regina been so glad about the existence of soundproof spells. At least Henry's safe, she thinks, as she's hurled backwards into the couch. Emma, inexplicably, has freed herself from the handcuffs. Her face is contorted with rage as she attacks Regina with blasts and blasts of magic.
"How can you think my power would be finite?" She screams and wrecks the couch on top of Regina who barely has time to roll away.
"How can you think you could shackle me? Dominate me?" She screeches and the iron chains turn into snakes at her feet and lunge at Regina.
"Why won't you let me take you?" She cries and yes, she's crying now, and as they fall, her tears become ice spears that are aiming at Regina.
"After everything I've done for you!" And at this Emma breaks down, collapses into a small heap on the floor that's shaken by sobs. With her deflate the snakes, until they're just iron again, curled around Regina's legs. It is very silent all of a sudden, and Regina stands in the middle of her demolished living room, watching her friend cry.
"Emma," she says cautiously after a while, because the woman before her is Emma now, Emma in all her broken glory, Emma the abused saviour, Emma, still breathing under her cloak of darkness.
Emma, who is now lifting her head, face stained with too much mascara. It looks like the darkness is bleeding out of her with every black tear that's rolling down her cheeks, but Regina knows this is not the case, unfortunately. Darkness doesn't yield to grief, quite contrary. It consumes it, forges it into yet another weapon, feeds on it until it's strong enough to take over control. Which means, Regina has to play on this break now, has to use it to talk to Emma before the woman she likes, loves as she realizes now, becomes captive to the Dark One again.
"Emma," she says again, stepping out of the chains and hurrying to the shaking heap. She hesitates briefly, before reaching out to gingerly wrap her arms around Emma. A sigh shudders through them both as Emma accepts the embrace and leans into Regina.
"I just wanted..." Emma begins but Regina shushes her before she can finish her sentence.
"You don't have to explain yourself," she murmurs into Emma's hair and god, why didn't they hug before? Why did it have to come to a catastrophe for her to realize how much she'd yearned for this?
"But I want to explain," Emma protests, muffled against Regina's shoulder, still weak but already defiant again. Regina smiles and releases her reluctantly. Emma's hair is still the Dark One's, her face still greyish white, but her eyes look at Regina the same way they've always had. Or, not exactly the same, because when they were reserved and secretive before, they now shine with a brutal honesty that makes Regina squirm under their gaze. Emma Swan has let her walls down.
"I meant what I said earlier," Emma says at the same time as Regina blurts out: "Don't tell me things you'll regret later."
Emma frowns. "Stop interrupting me, Regina." Her voice rings with a newfound authority that has Regina look at her in alarm, certain that the darkness has regained control. But Emma's eyes remain soft and full of emotion, and her lips form a smile instead of a sneer. Regina relaxes a bit.
"As I was saying," Emma then continues as if nothing happened, "I meant what I said, about me still being me and the darkness simply giving me courage." She takes a deep breath. "I've meant every word I said and I've meant every move I made. I see the way you look at me, Regina, I know that you want me. Yet you're acting as if you hate me. Why?" Her eyes search Regina's and first now does Regina notice how tired Emma looks. How worn, how sad, how, yes, broken. And Regina realizes, she can't lie to her.
"Because," she therefore begins, her voice feeling scratchy in her throat as she fights her own terror about admitting her thoughts. "Because I like you, Emma, very much. And I can't let the Dark One ruin your life even more by sleeping with me without your consent. I can't let the darkness abuse you. I'm not gonna lie, I was tempted. It's your body I desire, but it's your mind I love and I can't do this to you." Regina's voice breaks and she realizes she's crying too now. "I can't do this to you," she repeats weakly and prays, for the sake of both of them, that the Dark One won't choose this moment to return.
"But Regina, don't you see?" Emma whispers, her hands reaching for Regina's. "I am the Dark One." She says it differently now, softer, soothing. "I am consenting. This is me acting, all me, body and mind and heart if you so will, and everything is striving after you."
And Regina is shaking her head, not believing, never believing, although she absorbs every single word Emma is saying.
"Regina, listen!" Emma says, sharper now. Regina is listening, but she wishes she wasn't, wishes she didn't have to hear the words that are too good to be true.
"Didn't I become the Dark One for you?" Emma inquires, "Didn't I give you the dagger as a token of my trust?"
"And yet you erased our memories from Camelot," Regina counters, her mind clinging to this one sane thought in a desperate attempt to withstand the madness Emma's offering.
"To protect you!" Emma says, louder, as if she feels that she's losing Regina. "Camelot was a disaster. A broken kingdom with a corrupt king. Arthur, he didn't help us to find Merlin - he sabotaged all our plans. Everything, this whole mission to Camelot failed, and in the end, bringing us back to Storybrooke was the only thing I could do to save us... Taking your memories was a necessity in the process, but believe me, I'll only keep them until I've sorted out the dangers that are still present."
"What dangers?" Regina whispers when Emma doesn't continue. Her thoughts are racing to keep up with Emma's tale. In a horrible way it all makes sense, matches up with what few memories Regina has of Camelot and its leader. The shrewd look Arthur gave them when they first arrived to the kingdom, the scheming in his glance, the triumphant smile. "What dangers?" She repeats, urgently now, afraid.
"I can't tell you," Emma says, not meeting Regina's eyes. She sounds apologetic but also stubborn, a faint trace of the original Emma in her voice and Regina's heart would warm if it weren't so frustrating.
"Emma," she sighs and the woman before her crumples.
"I'm sorry." Barely a whisper.
"Why did you come here?" Regina asks, equally low. Her heart is still pounding and her skin crawls where Emma has touched her and while she's glad they're talking now, a tiny part of her wishes they could go back to kissing. A tiny part that Regina deliberately chooses to ignore.
"I needed to see someone," Emma murmurs, still evading Regina's gaze. "To know what I'm fighting for."
"But why me?"
A frown settles on Emma's brow, her lips forming a pout and for a second she looks so much like Emma that Regina almost jerks away, the proximity suddenly overwhelming her. She doesn't have the right to be here, cradling Emma's face, not while all they are is friends and both of them have a boyfriend waiting. And yet Emma doesn't move away, doesn't tell her no. Only looks at her in this intoxicating defiance.
"Because I made a mistake. And I will fix it but I needed to be sure first."
"Sure of what?" Regina breathes, although she already has an inkling what Emma is going to say. And indeed:
"Your feelings," Emma affirms her suspicions, and for the first time tonight the blonde looks nervous. "You do have feelings for me, right?"
Regina closes her eyes. Her head is swimming, the late hour and extensive display of magic at last taking its toll.
"Emma..."
"Please." The word is carefully enunciated, every letter pronounced with a purpose that lets Regina know just how much it costs Emma to say it. "I promise I will sort this out, I promise I can. I just need to have something that I can come back to. I need you to be there when I do. I... need you."
"And I need you," Regina whispers, because what else is there to say? What point is there in resistance when all the walls have been torn down anyway, when her heart lies bare and hurting amidst the ruins? When Emma has already seen it in its truest state, what use is there in lying? "I need you, Emma," she therefore repeats, her hands still cupping Emma's cheeks, her eyes mapping every inch of Emma's face. "I need you to come back. If I let you go now - promise you will come back."
"As long as you'll have me," Emma says, "I will always come back."
And she snaps before Regina can say anything else, dissolving into grey smoke between Regina's fingers.

A Farm. A Barn. Thousands of Fans. 45 Years Ago.
Tumblr media
The casket cooler. The red wagons. The red neck run. The spray bottles. The tarps. The steak sandwiches and the buckets of greasy French fries. And yes, the medical tents. All became traditions during the course of the 45 years of Jamboree in the Hills, a country music festival that was inspired by Jamboree USA, a weekly radio and stage show based in Wheeling. At the Capitol Theatre, a pair of sold-out shows took place on Saturday evenings with the majority of seats occupied by those who traveled from Canada to the Friendly City in motorcoaches. Those not making the trip to the Northern Panhandle most often listened to AM 1170 WWVA, once a 50,000-watt radio station focused on the Upper Ohio Valley and not nationally syndicated programming as it does today. Even when Bill Burke could get into the shade, the official JITH photographer continued taking pictures. Jamboree in the Hills was a most unique event when it began as a two-day event in 1977 at Brush Run Park in Belmont County. Not only did several of the biggest country music stars perform on the same stage (Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, and Tammy Wynette, to name a few, in 1977), but it was outdoors, and the fans were permitted to bring their own food and beverages into the show. “It was amazing to me that so many well-known country stars would perform in there all day long one after another,” said Bill Burke, the photographer who was hired to shoot the event’s official photos between 1977-1982. “The big names would sing during the day or during the night. They would get there, roll on stage, and then get out and head to the next show. That’s what those stars had to do back then. “Sure, there were things about being a photographer at Jamboree in the Hills that were great and not-so-great, and trust me; I slept very well after working those days,” he said. “It was two days when it first started, and it grew after that and was a really big deal for a lot of years.” Thousands of local and regional country music fans descended upon East Ohio every single July for more than 40 years. “Hiatus” It was in November 2018 when officials of Live Nation, the parent company of Jamboree in the Hills, announced the four-day music festival would not take place in July 2019. The press release utilized the term “hiatus” because someone in the corporation was fearful to announce the complete abandonment of the annual event. The property, the second site to host JITH during the four-plus decades, is now owned locally and has sat silent since the end of the 2018 show. Across U.S. 40 the same weekend of the year, the Blame My Roots Country Fest takes place the third weekend of July and has quadrupled in attendance since the first show in 2019. The next time you see Roger Hoard, compliment him on his red pants. Roger played the show in 1982 with a few other local musicians. “I can remember when that hiatus announcement was made, some people panicked because of the amount of sales tax that was generated during the week of the event,” recalled JP Dutton, one of three Belmont County commissioners. “And trust me; the budget did take a hit, and some changes had to take place because of the loss of that revenue. It wasn’t deadly, thankfully, but it did cause some changes.” Jamboree in the Hills was an instant success, and when the festival moved a few miles west on U.S. 40, more than 100,000 country music fans gathered during the multi-day event. “When I look at that (aerial) shot today, it reminds me of the aerial photos I’ve seen of Woodstock,” Burke said. “I believe it was law enforcement that gave me a ride in the helicopter so I could take some aerial shots. It was very different to see what was going on down there from the air because it just looked like a lot of people on a farm. “The original venue for Jamboree was a pretty simple place mostly because people brought in their own beers and food for the most part,” he said. “I know it got more involved later on, but it was hot, and there were a lot of people out there just enjoying their country music.” Jerry Lee Lewis was one of the most popular country music stars of his time, and he was also known for his antics off and on the stage. And yes, those fans brought their own supplies, and they did what was necessary to get those provisions on the premises. “When I saw a person bringing in a keg of beer on a red wagon, I had to take a picture of it because I had never seen that before,” Burke said. “If you were there, you saw a lot of things you had never seen before because folks were just figuring out how to do things they had never done before. I had to give a lot of the shots I took during those years to the client, but I did keep some of them for myself, and that’s one of them. “A lot of these (photo) slides have been sitting in a box for a lot of years, but because of what it was and how long the event continued, I thought it was time to bring them out for people to see how it all started,” he said. “When you do jobs like these, you don’t realize at the time what some of these photos could mean to people until it’s decades later. So, I hope people enjoy seeing them now.” One tradition of Jamboree in the Hills started very early on when the shows were at Brush Run Park. That Third Weekend The Old Farmer’s Almanac has for decades predicted the hottest, driest days of the day are those included in the third weekend of July. That prediction, however, has not always proved true. “I can remember going out there, and it was raining in the morning, and it ended up raining all day long,” recalled Joseph Heatherington, a former Belmont County resident who now lives in Wheeling. “Most years, it has been hot and sunny, but it’s been a real mess sometimes, too. Superstar Johnny Cash was the headliner one evening during the first Jamboree in the Hills in 1977. “No matter what, though it’s been a weekend we’ve looked forward to all year long because you could just go there and forget about the rest of the world for a while,” he said. “I’m not even that big of a fan of country music, but I am a fan of being outside, enjoying some beers, and not worrying about work for a day or two.” Burke, a 1971 graduate of Wheeling College who now lives in the Washington, D.C., area, was the official JITH photographer for the initial six years (1977-1982). Most of the time, he would snap his photos on or near the stage, but he would also venture into the crazed crowd. “And it was pretty crazy, for sure. I don’t know how those fans did it. The assignment called for me to be there from dawn to dusk, and certain groups that were up front would yell out of their minds all day long. They were just that excited to see the artists,” Burke reported. “They just sat or stood there for hours in the direct sunlight and had the times of their lives. “One year it was so hot the firemen had to hose off the fans so they could cool down, and I understand that became a tradition through the years when it was extremely hot,” he said. “I know there was a medical tent where people got treated for heat exhaustion and things like that, and I know that continued, as well.” Hoyt Axton took time out in the sweltering heat to visit with some fans attending JITH 1981. Conway Twitty was very popular at Jamboree USA so it just made sense to invite him to the hills. Jamboree in the Hills was an instant success here in the Upper Ohio Valley and throughout the country. Loretta Lynn was very popular through the years at the country music festival in Belmont County. The tradition of the "front-row view" began with the very first show and continued until the "hiatus." Moundsville's Slim Lehart was very popular at Jamboree in the Hills and along the Atlantic Coast. Adults and parents alike hope to get an autograph or two from the country music stars. Jamboree fans asked for autographs whenever possible and this time Roy Clark obliged. Read the full article

*Just imagine this is Eren and Mikasa hehe
Disclaimer: I wrote this based The Godfather, i really love the film and have the book too. Eren is like Michael and Mikasa is Appolonia, the time period is 40-60 (Golden age of Hollywood) it’s located in America ofcourse and Savoca, Italy.
Eren is a son from famous mafia Grisha Jaeger or we used to called him Don Jaeger. His wife Carla is a formerly theater actress, he fell in love since the first time they met and soon proposed her. Eren have a big brother name Zeke, the child from Grisha ex lover Dina who died bcs of her illness, luckily Carla accept him and treat Zeke like her own son. Grisha has a consigliere named Mr. Arlert that also has a son Armin who has the same age with Eren.
One day Eren caught a little girl stealing grapes from his garden but later he knew her name is Mikasa and she were Armin’s friend. Long story but finally Mikasa and Eren become a friend. They have 4 years gap, which Eren is 13 while Mikasa is 9 yo when the first time they met.
As time pass by, Mikasa fall in love with Eren and Eren also love her but he was too dumb to realize his own feelings. He also feel guilty if he try to make a move bcs when he 18/19 Mikasa is still 14/15 aka minor, so instead thinking about him and Mikasa, Eren decided to date his classmate from his school in America, a pretty rich blonde girl name Historia.
Yes, Armin and Eren went abroad to America to get education, it’s like tradition from Grisha, then Zeke, and finally Eren. While Mikasa still stay in Sicilia waiting her two bestfriend come back home each year or when the summer came. Mikasa has a brother name Levi who work as officer in New York along with Grisha.
Mikasa know Eren date other girl and it’s okay, for her, she love Eren unconditionally. If he happy she will also happy, but who knows great news come that Eren broke up with Historia makes Mikasa think she has a chance, she want to confess her feelings. And the day has come right on Mikasa 18th birthday Eren and Armin will come to Savoca ofcourse to celebrate they beloved Mikasa. But when the night came only Armin who appeared on her house, where Eren? Armin and Carla try to call him many times but Eren can’t be reach. Armin knows that Mikasa likes Eren for a long time and know her plan tonight.
Tomorrow morning Eren come home, he hugged his mom, and try to hug Armin but Armin avoid Eren and give him a deadly glare, Eren confused with his bestie reaction and asked an explanation then realized something missing, where is Mikasa? Eren go to her house looking for her and find her on the bed. Eren mad at her why she didn’t welcome him? Why she’s not at his house? Why Mikasa doesn’t look happy? But Mikasa just stay silent. Eren thought maybe Mikasa mad at him too bcs he’s late. Btw, Eren can’t help to tell this to Mikasa that he dating with Historia again, that’s why he can’t come home yesterday bcs he spent all of his time with Historia even take her to a new luxurious hotel in New York.
Mikasa feel her heart break and tears start to fall from her eyes while Eren take a step back and kick something that catch his attention, a red balloon? Fuck, he know he messed up. He forget about her birthday. Mikasa can’t hold it anymore and told him about her feeling but not in romantic way, more like she looking for justice of her feelings toward him. Eren speechless he didn’t expect this, that Mikasa likes him, she get rid from the bed and runaway, when Eren try to chased her, Mikasa is gone. It’s hard but later Mikasa move on and fell in love with someone new, Jean. Meanwhile Eren, couple months later he broke up again with Historia.
2/3 years later Eren were engaged with Louise for family business while Mikasa already arranged marriage with Jean. Eren doesn’t like Louise and spend his time more with Mikasa, now he much more clingy with her. But Mikasa wouldn’t fall for that, she already wear golden ring on her finger. When Eren know Mikasa will get married he really angry about it and forced Mikasa to leave him and go with Eren to America. But Mikasa rejected him and they have a great fight. Mikasa refused to see him and desperated Eren choose to go to America with a heavy feelings and he doesn’t has a chance to say goodbye to her. Armin also live in america bcs now he is the new Jaeger consigliere and married to Annie who also Mikasa’s friend.
In Americe Eren told Grisha that he doesn’t want to be mafia, and Grisha understand it. He broke up with Louise bcs all the things he can do it hurt her.
Meanwhile in Savoca, Jean came with his friend who also a mafia boss name Colt. When they having lunch at Mikasa’s house Colt can’t stop staring Mikasa and when he got a chance to talk with her, surprisingly they were match. He likes her flirty-sly funny attitude. He likes her and he want her but she gonna maried his own friend, well more like business partner.
We all know Colt crazy, he’s a gangster what will we expect? He told his right-hand man Porco to kill Jean and Mikasa’s family. So when she doesn’t have anyone else Colt will came as her savior.
And it’s work.
Armin who worried bcs Mikasa haven’t replied his letter told Eren. Well Eren lil bit mad at him cause “ALL THIS TIME YOU AND MIKASA EXCHANGED LETTER? (I also want to 🥲)” without any further do Eren immediately command Mike and a few of his people to go to Sicily. How shocked when Mike told Eren that Ackerman is dead and Mikasa is missing. This heartbreaking news make all of them (Armin, Annie, even Carla who love Mikasa as her own daughter) hit by a strong sadness.
What about Eren? Oh dear, he spent his time and money for cigarettes, alcohol, and gambling. Didn’t get enough of sleep bcs always getting nightmares about Mikasa. Suddenly he just doesn’t have any reason to keep living.
One year have pass, and Eren has changed into cold and his body lose lot of weight, every body worried about his health.
One day when he come to Hitch marriage (Hitch is foster child, Grisha and Carla found her on the street and decided to take care of her, but after a couple years Grisha and Carla decided to go back to Sicily while Hitch stay in America with Mike) Eren can’t believe what he saw, he see Mikasa, her hair is bit longer. And what more unbelievable is she married with Colt, one of head mafia family.
Fyi so there’s the head of five family who rule New York: Jaeger, Braun, Braus, Grice, Tybur.
And know Eren already see her with his own eyes and he will never let her go again.
SHSHSH sorry for the messy english I’m too tired and sleepy anddd THIS is my first EM fics, once i post it on ao3 but deleted it lol and decided to continue it on wattpad. Idk why i like NTR 😔🙏🏻 , and different from milfkasa, MIKASA IS LOYAL to colt (she didn’t know that Colt is the one who murder her family lol) so it’ll add angst/hurt to the fic. For Eren personality I combined his canon chr and Michael meanwhile Mikasa is mix from Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe (I don’t even know if that makes sense, wait, what I’m talking abt-)

I missed you, Doll
Prompt number: 13 “I missed this”
Fandom: Marvel
Paring: 40s!Bucky Barnes x reader
Rating: G
Word count: 1.7k
Warnings: mentions of arranged marriage, spinsters, and
A/N: Like always, I procrastinated so this isn’t really up to my standards. I really wanted to use a lot more 40s slang but I was running out of time. Either way, first time writing for 40s Bucky, and Bucky in general, but I absolutely love 40s Bucky. Also slight AU I suppose since Hydra and the serum don’t exist in this story.
Tumblr media
Growing up being best friends with Steve and Bucky caused many in the neighborhood to look down upon you, the older women in the neighborhood found it unbecoming that a  young lady was spending her time with boys. Their distaste for you only seemed to grow when you started to wear trousers in your teenage years, that way you could keep up with Bucky and you could move around easier to defend Steve. Now in your early twenties your neighbors consider you to be a spinster.
You were about to practically beg Stevie to marry you, your parents would never approve but at least that way they would get off your back, but they arranged for you to marry a man fresh out of the army. His name is Bernard, he’s in his early forties and with just a few chaperoned dates you could tell he had an alcohol problem, a souse. He made it very clear that he didn’t like pants on a lady and if you ever wanted a proposal from him that you would have to wear skirts and dresses only. Your parents heard the ultimatum and burned every pair of trousers in your possession, leaving you with no other option than the flowy garments. After your parents forced you to say yes to his proposal Bernard forbade you from seeing Steve, your best friend and last connection to Bucky.
Every night you would cry yourself to sleep to the picture of Sergeant James Buchanan Barnes, the edges frayed from how often you clutched it. The picture was never far from your reach, always keeping it by your side tucked into a pocket of your handbag. Bernard didn’t know of the photo and neither did your parents, Bucky would send your letters to Steve’s apartment knowing they wouldn’t be intercepted by your overbearing parents that way.
Bucky Barnes was a dream boat, he had women practically throwing themselves at his feet, even the married women. He would flirt with you constantly, but he flirted with every woman so you didn’t let it get to your head, especially when he started to date Dot before he was deployed. Much like every other woman you fell for Bucky and his charm, especially the caring side only you and Steve saw first hand. You had hoped that over the years his feelings would grow to match your own, but he never seemed to want to settle down, especially with you.
Your father is throwing a party today, one where he officially announces to your relatives that you're engaged to Bernard and to be married by the end of the year. You can’t help but hide in a quiet corner and cry, you imagined this day since you were a child and none of it was how you imagined. Your father wasn’t announcing your engagement to Bucky, Steve by his side- he wasn’t even invited to the party. And neither was Rebecca Barnes, your best friend besides the boys and practically your sister.
A knock on the door pulls you away from your silent tears, figuring it’s another guest for your party. You stand and flatten your blue dress with white polka dots and wipe your eyes with your gloved fingers, before faking a smile and opening the door. The figure on the other side of said door is the last person you ever expected to see again. Standing before you in all his glory is Bucky still in uniform, he looks stronger and even more handsome than when he left almost a year ago.
Before you can say anything he swoops you into a hug, lifting you from the ground and spinning you around happily. When he sets you back on your feet he keeps his arms wrapped firmly around your waist, burying his face in the crook of your neck. You bury your own face into his strong shoulder, trying not to shake and alert him to the tears falling from your eyes.
“I missed this,” he murmurs into your hair, strong arms pulling you impossibly closer to him. “I missed you, doll.”
“I missed you too, Bucky,” your voice breaks, Bucky tries to pull away to see what’s wrong when he hears this. But you won’t let him. You just want a few more moments of bliss before you're never allowed to see him or be in his arms again.
“You stopped writing to me doll, why?” hurt laces his voice, causing your shoulders to shake as tears stream harder and faster. This time Bucky successfully pulls away slightly, right hand reaching up to caress your face, his calloused thumb wiping the tears away as they fall. “Steve and Rebecca both told me I needed to come see for myself when they picked me up from the station earlier. But you look fine, beautiful even, even if you aren’t in trousers. I wrote to you last month hoping you’d be there to pick me up.
“(Y/N), sweetheart, who’s at the door?” before you can tell Bucky of the new developments, Bernard’s voice pulls you away from Bucky. You take a giant step away from the man you love, his face falls as his hand slips from your cheek, you look at the ground in hopes to calm your nerves and stop your tears.
“Who are you?” there’s malice in Bucky’s voice as Bernard rounds the corner and into the front room with you and Bucky.
“I’m Bernard, (Y/N)’s future husband,” Bernard glares up at Bucky, turning to you and kissing you on the cheek, the stench of alcohol rolling off of him in waves. You try to pull away from his chapped lips but his arm snakes around your waist to keep you close, hand too close to your rear for your liking. “Who are you?”
“Sergeant James Barnes,” Bucky straightens his back and squares his shoulders, towering over Bernard in hopes to intimidate the older man. “I’m (Y/N)’s best friend and I was hoping to speak with her, seeing as how I just got home.”
“Seeing as she’s promised to me,” you let out a yelp as Bernard’s fingers dig painfully into your hip bone. “I’m afraid that’s inappropriate and I cannot allow it.”
“(Y/N) who’s at the door?” you father calls, too busy squirming trying to get out of Bernard’s hold you don’t answer him. He soon rounds the corner, eyes widening as he sees who's at the door.
“Mr. (Y/L/N),” Bucky’s voice is strained as he glares at your father, his face softens as he turns to look at you. “Doll, tell me he’s treating you well and I’ll be on my way.”
“He’s not,” Bernard's grip so tightly you're surprised he hasn’t broken your bone or his fingers. “I can’t marry him Bucky, I tried to say no. No to marrying him, no to going on dates, but they forced me to.”
Bucky’s jaw ticks as he grinds his teeth down hard. He reaches forward, roughly grabbing Bernard’s hand and removing it from your waist, and gently pulling you into his arms. The sergeant’s deadly glare leaves Bernard and lands on your father.
“You knew of my intentions with your daughter,” you know he’s fighting to keep his voice low so as not to alert the guests in the other rooms of the house. “And you still tried to arrange her to marry someone else while I was gone?”
“What are you talking about,” you rest your hand on Bucky’s chest as you stare hopefully into his crystal blue eyes.
“I would like to know that too,” Bernard glares at both men in the room.
“Before I left,” Bucky pushes a stray hair away from your eyes, talking to you as if you're the only in the room with him. “I made my intentions clear to your father that when I got home, if you’d have me that is, I wanted to marry you.”
“You do?” tears start to well up in your eyes, but for the first time in a long time they’re happy tears. Bucky nods, calloused thumb caressing your cheek again. “What about Dot? You two seemed to be going steady before you left.”
“She was in love with her milkman, and I was in love with you,” Bucky rests his forehead on yours. “I wanted to keep it a secret, ask you to marry me in person. But I couldn't wait any longer so I asked you in a letter, but then you stopped responding and I was worried I scared you off.”
“You could never scare me off Buck,” your hands slide up his chest and into the short strands of his chestnut hair. “I love you too much for that. Why else would I put up with you all these years?”
For the second time today, Bucky lifts you off your feet and twirls you around. “You’re making me the happiest man alive,” Bucky murmurs as he sets your giggling self down. “So doll, (Y/N), the love of my life, my best friend, would you put me out of my misery and be my wife?”
Bucky drops to his knee and pulls out the ring Steve brought to the station with him earlier, the ring Bucky bought for you before being shipped off, the ring that he wanted to give you before he left but he didn’t have your father’s permission. The diamond glints on the rays of sunlight streaming in from the picture window in the room. “Yes! Yes, of course!” you nod happily, and Bucky grins up at you as he slides the ring on your finger- it’s a perfect fit.
You can hear the protests from Bernard and your father behind you, but both you and Bucky choose to ignore them. You don’t care about what either of them have to say, all you care about is the future you’ll finally get to have with Bucky, the man you’ve always loved. Bucky stands up and pulls you in for a searing kiss, your first ever kiss. Sparks shoot from your lips down to your toes, causing them to curl in pleasure. It’s a kiss you’ll remember for a lifetime, one you'll tell your children and grandchildren about. And there was no one you’d rather share it with than one James Buchanan Barnes.
