The night is cold. Steely wind nips at your cheeks and you draw your coat a little tighter across your chest. Moonlight leads you home, beaming down through the haze of midnight and you free it from oil-slicked puddles as you walk down the alley.

You’ve walked this way a thousand times before, but tonight it feels different- there’s something lurking in the corner of your vision, some hidden danger that sturs your senses and makes every hair stand on end.

A flutter of wings catches your ear and you turn with a gasp; just a pigeon fleeing the dumpster. You laugh at yourself and continue on; there’s work to be done tomorrow and not much more time for sleep.

Another noise strikes your attention and you spin again, nerves on edge, mind reeling with illogical fears. It’s the heavy footfall of a boot, familiar yet unscheduled, but when you turn, there’s nothing behind you except the night.

“Stop being such a pussy, Y/N,” you laugh at yourself, turning back to face the shadows and your shortcut home.

One step and you’re slamming into solid muscle.

“Holy shit!” you scream and try to run, but a hand clamps down around your elbow and holds you steady. The grip is strong and cold, and you look up with fear in your heart.

Green eyes sparkle in the moonlight.

“Dean?”

A soft smile curls his plump lips. “Heya, Y/N/N.”

It’s been forever since you last saw the hunter; a few years in fact. He’d been the only one to believe you when you ranted to the police about how a monster had taken your little sister. Sure enough, by week’s end, you were standing hip to hip with the strange fake Fed, covered in blackish goo and sharing a victory kiss beneath the stars.

He left before dawn that night, speeding away in his giant black boat of a car. To see him returned was both welcomed and jarring. Something had to be amiss.

“Holy crap- you scared the shit out of me!”

His hold on your elbow vanishes and he stuffs his hands in his jacket pockets. He dips his chin and looks at you through perfectly thick lashes. “Sorry about that.” He smiles and your heart melts a bit, remembering what those lips could do. “I saw you walkin’ alone and thought- well… You really shouldn’t be walking alone this late at night, Y/N.”

A laugh tickles your throat. “I’ve done a lot worse. As you remember.”

He laughs with you at that, a little chuckle that lifts his broad shoulders. “That I do. But still- it’s… dangerous out here.”

Reaching into your bag, you pull up your secret weapon. “I’ve got pepper spray and a mean right hook.”

Dean looks away and back; a slick smile tugging on his lips as he wipes a hand down his cheek. “Oh, that I remember well.”

“Yeah. Sorry about that…”

His eyes flash over your face and your breath catches in your throat. “Don’t be. I was impressed.”

Pride swell in your gut but something’s still wrong. “Why are you here?” you blurt out, staring up at him as if he’s some ghost from the past, and well, he is. “I mean- it’s nice to see you but-”

“Seeing me is like a bad omen, huh?”

He looks away and you feel bad. “Not like that, but- kinda? I mean- you only show up when monsters are lurking.”

Dean lets out a deep laugh as if he can’t help it and his green eyes turn back to dig into yours. “Monsters…” He sighs heavily and shakes his head. “I don’t know about that.” He licks his lips slowly and your mind is shoved back in time, right back into the backseat of that damned Impala. “Anyway- why don’t we get you off the streets, huh?”

“Do I remind you of a working girl, Mr. Winchester?”

He smiles and you swear he’s trying to kill you with it. “You know what I mean.” He crooks his elbow and holds it out for you. “If I remember correctly, your apartment isn’t far-”

“Correct.” Your hand slides a bit too easily onto his arm, fitting perfectly in the hollow of his elbow.

You turn together and head into the shadows, not caring about the puddles underfoot or the cold wind attacking your cheeks. Dean seems to shield you from more than just the wind- you feel safe in his arms, careless and free.

“So, just passing through town?”

He nods, looking straight ahead. “Something like that.”

“Sam with you?”

He isn’t revealing much, hiding all behind a soft smile that crinkles around his eyes and turns your mind to mush. “No. Sam’s- not with me.”

“Oh well. I hope he’s doing OK…”

“I don’t wanna talk about Sam.” Dean stops at the foot of your stairs, memory guiding him straight to your building. He grabs your hand and you spin with him, falling against his chest as he tugs you close. “Do you?”

Staring up at him, you lose all sense of time and space and it’s just like it was a few years ago. He’s strong and tall, mysterious and beautiful; a hero there to guide you back to the light.

“Ya know,” you whisper, pushing up on your toes to try to reach his lips. “I really couldn’t care less.”

Dean dips his chin and brings his lips close, hovering there, giving you the option to pull away. With a smile, you do the opposite, pushing in and kissing him hard.

He exhales against your cheek, tips his head to the side, parts his lips. His tongue juts out, swiping over your bottom lip and you hum at the memory of it. His left hand finds the nape of your neck and he holds you there with freezing fingers that seer into your flesh.

Pulling back, you’re stunned to find his eyes open and focused; every ounce of his attention on you.

“Do you- wanna come up?” you ask, surprising only yourself. Dean seems to know you’d offer, waiting patiently for you to catch up.

“I’d love to.”

He follows closely up the three flights of stairs and you rack your brain to try to remember what panties you have on; if it’s the lacy bra or the junky one.

Your breath is fast with climbing and nerves when you finally reach your door, but Dean is steady, appearing behind you almost too quickly.

“The- the place is kinda messy. Sorry. Wasn’t expecting- um… you.”

Dean swallows visibly, his upper lip twitching as you push open the door. “Don’t worry about it.”

His tone has changed slightly; the feel of him ass well. Gone are the familiar shy smiles, the feeling of being wooed. He seems stiff, focused.

He stands back as you step inside.

“Well,” you laugh, watching him hover in the doorway. “Come in.”

His boot is hesitant to step over the threshold, but he does and he breaths in the room, scanning the apartment quickly.

“Nice place.”

The door shuts and locks behind you.

“Thanks. As I said, usually not so messy-”

Dean holds up a hand and waves you off. “It’s great.” He spins on his heel and soon you’re back in his arms, cradled delicately against his chest. “Just like- you…”

A smile bubbles up from deep inside and your cheeks burn. “Dean- did you come back here just for me?”

His fingers tangle in your hair and he tugs, lifting your shy eyes to his. “And if I said yes?”

Your answer is a kiss that closes your eyes and makes him moan. You lean closer, pressing yourself against him. Hips and chest and thighs all crashing together as you give yourself over to him with a push of your lips.

He responds instantly. The hand in your hair tightens, the other digs into your lower back, locking you to him.

It’s a mad rush to the bedroom; so hard to walk and shed clothing between maddening kisses.

He lays you down, drags his calloused fingers down your naked body, teasing and pinching and driving you wild. His name falls from your lips in desperate moans as he licks at your skin; plump lips planting bruises from throat to hip. He’s feverish- grasping at every inch of you like you’re water in the desert.

“Need you,” he whispers, throat dry and torn.

You push a hand through his hair and bite your lip. “All yours…”

He presses inside, spreading your thighs wide with his hips. The stretch is deep and exquisite and you toss your head back against the mattress, savouring every inch of him as your body tightens.

“Fuck, I’ve missed you.”

He stares, eyes hard and wild. Still thrusting slowly, Dean drops down, covering your body with his. The crush is heavy, knocks the breath from your lungs. A big hand wraps beneath you, a cool hand covers the nape of your neck. Fingers, long and deft, lock around your jaw from beneath and turn your head to the side.

You gasp, struggling to breathe beneath his weight as pleasure and fear collide in your chest.

“Dean-”

“Be still,” he growls, lips tickling your ear. He pulls back for a moment and the corner of your eye tricks your vision. He bares his teeth; tiny fangs dropping like magic before he attacks, sinking them deep into your throat.

Your heart pounds, pumping blood to meet the heavy pull of his beautiful lips.

“Dean!” You claw at his shoulders, strangled and desperate to be released.

The pull is strong and the room starts to spin.

He thrusts harder, moaning loudly as he drains the life from your veins and nears his climax.

The numbness starts in your fingertips, works its way up your arms; the muscles protest and relax, leaving you limp and empty beneath him.

“So fucking perfect,” he groans, swallowing the last drop just as he cums. His timing is perfection and he cries out in ecstasy; his entire body vibrating with your blood and his pleasure. “Just like I thought you’d be.”

He doesn’t bother to clean up, just drags his jeans up his thick thighs and tugs on his layers of flannel and canvas.

My Reactions to Trigun Stampede After Watching the 1998 show

So I watched all of the 98 show in less than 24 hours and adored it so I went into Stampede cautious and yknow I liked it just a tiny bit (as I am writing this I am on my 4th rewatch, I watched it for the first time 3 days ago, I adore it). I decided to document my reactions cause I feel like a few mutuals will enjoy this.

Episode 1

Oh Wolfwood doing that has so much more impact now

although in the 1998 version by having it not be someone Vash knew it added to how far Vash's ideals went and it caused Wolfwood to have introspection but this is a different arc

And in the 1998 version the situation is much more ambigous cause Vash is talking to the "kid" but he hasn't turned back at all yet and Wolfwood shoots

so it's more unclear who is right in that situation while in this you can see Rolo is sorta just frozen there and thinking so you're inclined to Vash's side more

what are they cooking, im so intrigued

July 2022

Elias was down for a nap, so you decided to take the test then. You had an inkling that something was wrong, and like the last pregnancy, Jasper was already acting very protective, more so than usual.

You waited for the timer to go off, and while you did, you paced your bedroom, thinking about what life would be like with two kids.

When the timer went off, you made your way into the bathroom and picked up the test. You stared at it in shock for a few moments, letting it sink in.

"Holy crap." You laughed, wiping your eyes as the tears started. You took a deep breath as Jasper walked into the room, "Look at you, Jaz, looks like you knew it before me again." You laughed.

He climbed into your lap and sat down. You smiled, hugging him, running a hand up and down his back, "You're the best big brother in the world." You whispered, pressing a soft kiss to his head.

After finding out you were pregnant, you ordered shirts for Elias and Jasper to surprise Freddie with, but until then, all you could do was wait and act like everything was normal.

Freddie was definitely getting suspicious due to your strange eating habits and how weird Jasper was acting.

"Hey, there's a package for you," Freddie announced, walking into the living room and handing you the box. You had been tracking that package since it left the shipping address, so you knew it was coming that day.

"Thank you." You plucked it from him and made your way into the bedroom, Elias' hand in yours as Jasper followed after you both.

"What happened to the sandwich I just made?" He called after you.

"I'll eat it later. Thank you." You shut the door behind you, leaving Freddie very confused.

20 minutes you opened the door, Elias in your arms, wearing his "Big Brother" shirt, as he held his stuffed animal to his chest, Jasper trotting behind you, wearing his own little "Biggest Brother" shirt.

"So, what's with all the secrecy?" Freddie raised a brow.

"Well, I sort of have a big surprise for you." You shrugged.

"Sort of big?"

"Sort of big." You nodded. You maneuvered around so he could sort of see Elias' shirt, "Show papa your shirt." You told Elias.

He moved his arm with his stuffed animal away from his chest so Freddie could read his shirt, "Big brother?" He read out confused.

"Look at Jas' shirt." You instructed, and he looked down and read it. His eyes went wide as he bent down to get a better look at the little shirt he was wearing, "Biggest brother." He looked up at you, a look of shock on his face, "Are you...?"

"We're gonna have another baby, Freddie." You nodded, feeling the tears already begin to form. You set Elias down as he stood up and wrapped you in a big hug.

"Oh, my God." He laughed. You could feel his shoulders shake as he cried, "So this is why you were acting so weird." Freddie looked down at Jasper as he wiped his eyes.

"That's what I think." You nodded.

He looked back over at you, and the smile on his face couldn't get any bigger, "Baby." He leaned his forehead on yours. You smiled, leaning up and kissing him.

You were sitting in the doctor's office, waiting for your name to be called. Freddie was sitting next to you, just a ball of nerves. His leg was bouncing and he was fidgeting with his hands a lot.

"Y/N Andersen?" The nurse called out, looking around the room. You and Freddie both looked at each other before standing up, "All right, if you'll both just follow me." She led you into the room.

The nurse asked the normal routine questions and took down all the necessary information. Then she left, and that left you and Freddie alone.

You sat together in silence, not saying anything. He was sitting in the chair next to the laid on the exam table, his hand held tightly in yours.

"Mrs. Andersen?" The doctor knocked on the door, then stepped in, "Welcome back." The doctor laughed, "How old is Elias now?"

"Turned 1 a few weeks ago." You smiled.

"Well, be sure to tell him happy birthday from me." You and Freddie both nodded, "All right, let's see your baby."

She squirted some of the jelly onto your stomach, "All right, let me know if it's uncomfortable at any time." You nodded. She started moving the wand around before the view of Baby Andersen finally came into view.

"There's your baby." Your eyes were glued to the TV screen in front of you on the wall, "And here's the heartbeat."

The room was dead silent, except for the sound of your baby's heartbeat through the speakers. You looked over at Freddie, who was already looking at you, a smile on his face and tears in his eyes.

He reached over and hugged you the best he could without touching your stomach, "Can we have lots of pictures?" He asked, pulling away.

"I'll make lots." The doctor smiled. She left the room but the still of your baby was still on the TV screen. No words were spoken between you as you just stared up at the screen.

August 2022

"All right, we have two little surprises for you." You told your parents.

"A surprise for us?" Your mom asked, kissing Elias' head. You were visiting them, so you knew the timing was perfect.

"Yeah." You looked over at Freddie, who was sitting on the couch opposite the one you were sitting on.

"Okay, open this first." You handed them each a bag. Both had mugs that read "Best Grandma" for your mom and "Best Grandpa" for your dad.

They opened the bags and pulled out the mugs, "Oh, this is cute." You could tell they were both confused as they read the mugs.

You pulled the ultrasound out of your pocket and they both stared at it for a moment, "Is that Eli?" Your mom asked.

"No, this is from a couple weeks ago."

"Get out of here!" Your mom pulled you into a hug, "You're pregnant?"

You nodded, "What the heck?" Your dad stood up and hugged Freddie, "Congratulations." You and your mom pulled away.

"Oh, you're gonna be a big brother, Eli." She cooed. Eli giggled, bobbing up and down, having no clue what she had said.

"Oh, man." Your dad made his way back over to you and he pulled you into a big hug.

Before the season started, you flew up to New York to visit Sydney. You were, of course, close to a lot of the girls in Toronto, but Sydney, and a few others, were the ones you were closest to.

She wanted to come to visit you, but she was pretty late in her own pregnancy, "Oh, look at you." She cooed as she opened the door.

"Look at you, Miss Bump." You looked down at her big baby bump.

You got settled in before sitting both Matt and Sydney down, "So, what's so important that you couldn't tell us over the phone?" She asked.

"Well, I have some news." You began. You pulled out the sonogram photos from your pocket.

"Shut up!" Sydney exclaimed, "Are you serious?"

"Yeah." You nodded.

"You're actually pregnant?" She stood up, looking about ready to cry.

"I am." You nodded, pulling her into a hug.

"Oh, my goodness." She squeezed you as hard as a pregnant person could, "When are you due?"

"April." You answered, hugging Matt who had stood up.

"I can't believe this. This is crazy." She wiped her eyes. Winnie waddled into the room and looked around confused, "Did you hear that, Win? Auntie Y/N's gonna have a baby."

You bent down to her height as she walked over to you and hugged you, "Oh, thank you, Win." You laughed tearfully, hugging her back.

You watched the phone ring, waiting for Ryanne to answer the FaceTime call. When the call finally connected, instead of seeing Ryanne, you got a big shot of Gavin's face.

"Why, hello Gavin." You laughed. At the sound of Gavin's name, Elias' head popped up and he ran as fast as his little legs could carry him over to you, "Oh, would you look at that. Someone wants to say "hi"." You moved the phone down to Elias could say his hellos.

After they talked, you grabbed the phone back, "So, what's up?"

"So, I have good news and bad news."

"Oh, dear." She inhaled.

"Which do you want to hear first?"

"All right, let's go for the bad news."

"All right, bad news: I won't be able to go on the girl's trip."

"What? Why not?" She asked.

"Well, this leads me to my good news..." You paused for dramatic effect, "I don't think I'll be able to fly 7 months pregnant."

Her jaw dropped and she stared at you for a few seconds, "Are you serious? Are you messing with me?"

"No, this is serious. I'm actually pregnant."

"How far along? When are you due?"

"I'm about 7 or 8 weeks along and I'm due in April."

"Oh, my gosh. I knew it! You came to Philly, and you left with that look. I told Claude that this was gonna happen."

"It was all you. You put this idea in my head." You jokingly glared at her.

"Oh, boy. Palmer's gonna have a friend." She clapped happily.

"I know." You laughed.

You had lots of people to tell, but the people at the top of your list to tell where all your girlfriends, especially the girls from Toronto. You were close with a couple girls from Anaheim, but nowhere near as close as Toronto. So, you and Freddie took a short trip up to Toronto.

You invited them all out for dinner with the lie that you just wanted to catch up, which wasn't too far from the truth, "So, we came up here 'cause we, of course, wanted to see all of you, but we also have a surprise."

"A surprise?"

"Yeah." You nodded, pulling out the sonogram from your pocket. You held it up and there was a collective gasp from everyone at the table.

"Is this real? Is this recent?" Steph asked.

"Yeah."

"Are you really pregnant?" She asked and when you nodded, and jumped out of her seat and pulled you into a hug.

"Awh, it's gonna be a little Eli." Courtney cooed, hugging you next.

"Or a little girl."

"I can't imagine Eli having a little sister or even being a big brother." Mitch laughed, hugging Freddie.

"I'm so happy for you guys." Aryne pulled you into a big hug, "This is why you were drinking Ginger Ale the other day." She commented.

"Yeah." You laughed as everyone else enveloped both you and Freddie in hugs.

November 2022

The moment the ice rink came into view from down the hall, Elias was running down the hall, leaving you and Freddie in the dust. Jasper, ever the protector, ran after Elias.

When he got to the end of the hallway, he turned around and looked at you. Jasper sat down next to him, looking back at you too, "Skate?" Elias asked, pointing at the ice once you had made it to the other end of the hallway.

"Not today." Freddie bent down next to him, "Remember? We're gonna pop the balloon?"

"And find out if the baby is a boy or a girl." You added.

"Skate?" Elias asked again.

"We'll skate another day, come on." Freddie stood up, picked up Elias, and held him on his hip.

The reason for the ice rink is the place of your gender reveal was it was the place you, Freddie, and even Elias loved. It was a special place for both of you.

Only a select few people knew of the upcoming arrival (Your families, close friends, the team, and a few members of staff), but other than that, no one knew.

The team was recording it but holding onto it until you were ready to share it with the world, "Eli, do you want a little brother or sister?" The media person asked.

"Brother." He stated, his eyes so serious, you were almost scared of what would happen if it were a girl.

"All right, you ready, E?" Freddie asked. You were all bent down to Elias' level so he could get a good view too.

"Yeah!" He clapped.

"All right, you wanna give me a countdown?" Freddie asked, looking back at you.

"I count down," Elias announced.

"All right, you count down for daddy." You told him.

"Three, two, one!" Once Elias got to one, Freddie popped the confetti gun, and pink confetti flew out. You both looked at each other, then looked down at Elias, who looked conflicted.

"Brother?" He asked.

"No buddy, you're gonna have a baby sister." He pouted, "Are you happy?"

"We play sticks?"

"Yeah, you'll get to play sticks with baby sister." You reassured, kissing his head with a smile before Freddie pulled you into a hug. Jasper distracted Elias with kisses as you and Freddie hugged,

“A girl.” He muttered, lifting you off the ground. Your arms tightened around his neck as he spun you around.

"Your gonna be a girl dad." You giggled, pulling away as he set you down on your feet. He only smiled, pulling you back into a hug.

With your bump growing more and more each day, you knew the news would get out somehow. The season was well underway and you could only hide the bump for so long.

"We have to tell people soon." You told Freddie.

"Tell people? We've told everyone."

"No, like the internet. I've been to a couple home games where people have asked to take pictures with me, and we hugged, and I'm just tired of hiding it."

"All right, all right." He nodded, "We can post it, if that's really what you want, but know, once it's out there, it's out there forever."

"I know, and I'm okay with that." You nodded.

"All right, I'll talk to the media team tomorrow." He kissed your head.

"Thank you."

You made your Instagram posts, and even the NHL account posted a little congratulatory post for you too, so after you posted, you gave the Canes social media team the "okay" to post your little gender reveal.

Freddie was standing in front of his locker, impatiently trying to get done with media. He wanted to go home and just relax with you, Elias, and Jasper.

"Freddie, congrats on the baby." The reporter smiled.

"Thank you." Freddie nodded appreciatively.

"Now did Elias react when he found out about his baby sibling?"

"Well, I think you all saw in the video, all he was concerned about was being able to play mini sticks with the baby." He laughed, eliciting a laugh from the reporters, "But he is very excited, and he’s been very involved in everything, and we make sure to explain to him what’s going on every chance we get.”

“Is he excited to be a big brother?"

"He is. He's super excited." Freddie nodded.

April 2023

You heard him before you saw him. Elias was running down the hall of the maternity ward, his feet slapping against the floor as he tried to find the room you were in.

When he finally found it, he knocked on the door before pushing it open. He looked around cautiously, "Hi, buddy." You flashed him a big bright smile, your newborn baby in your arms.

He stared in awe at the baby you were holding, "You wanna meet her?" He nodded. Freddie helped him onto the bed before standing next to the bed.

"Eli, meet your new sister, Alma." Elias looked down at his new sister.

"Sissy." He giggled, reaching out and running a gentle finger across her cheek. You and Freddie smiled at each other as you watched him interact.

"Do you want to hold her?" You asked. He looked up at you, a hesitant look on his face, "If you want to, you don't have to." He nodded, "All right." He continued to look at her and run his finger across her cheek.

July 2023

"Freddie, let me just say, before we start, congrats on the baby." Emily Kaplan smiled through the screen.

"Thank you, thank you." Freddie nodded, a smile on his face as he glanced over at the picture of the four of you on his desk.

"How has it been? You're 3 months, almost 4 months into this."

"It's been great. I mean, parenthood isn't all sunshine and rainbows, and it definitely has its days, but the most rewarding part is just the days where it's just us and we're hanging out, going to the park, or watching a movie."

Emily smiled, "How is Alma different from Elias?"

"Well, she's only been here for 3 months, but already, we can already tell how much alike she and Eli are." They both laughed.

The interview went on as normal. Questions about work, the upcoming season, and things of that nature, "So, I know this is a little old, but I've been meaning to ask about your wife's infamous trade tweet." Freddie cracked a smile and nodded, "Did you know she was gonna do that?"

"I let her know she could say something, but I never expected anything like that. I thought my old team would post something about it, but she beat them to it, and the world went wild."

"I remember seeing the tweet and just cracking up. I mean, the whole office lost it." He laughed.

"Yeah, I a few teammates sent me some texts about it and had a good laugh." The door was softly pushed open, and Elias popped his head in. Freddie smiled and waved.

Elias smiled, and waved, running over and hugging Freddie's leg. He raised his hands, signaling he wanted to be picked up, so Freddie listened and placed Elias on his knee.

Elias looked down at his dad's screen and waved to Emily, "Hi, Elias."

"Hi." He spoke shyly.

"I was just talking to your dad," She started, pausing and looking back at Freddie, silently asking if she could continue. When Freddie nodded, she did, "So, what's your favorite part of being a big brother."

Elias thought about it, before answering, "Pizza."

Emily laughed, confused, "Since we're usually in such a rush for dinner, we usually end up eating pizza, and clearly that's Elias' favorite." Freddie explained.

"I love pizza." Elias smiled at her, "Well, thank you for joining me, Freddie, and thank you, Elias. I've had a lot of fun."

"Thank you for having me." Freddie smiled, "Well, us." He corrected.

She nodded and smiled, "Can't wait to see you on the ice."

"Me, too." He laughed.

HOLY CRAP THIS IS GONNA BE LONG-

Hopefully not too long- I'll try not to rant too much, we'll se tho

so, the Au is your basic, “what if Mikey wasn’t able to open a portal?” Au, which has been done a whole lot, I know, but oh well. I’ve been working on it since like, July and I’ve only gotten to pg 19, so idk if I’ll ever finish it.

so, one day, in like, mid June, when I first started actually trying to draw the turtles, I started drawing a thing in this little baby sketchbook I have, based on the song “Georgia” by Jonah Kagen. And then I sent it to my friend. And then it grew and we eventually came up with this and this entire storyline. We just kinda plotted this thing out where like, two weeks after the invasion, Donnie starts getting these weird visions of Leo in the prison dimension because why not, and tries to get him back with Casey's help or whatever because he thinks that these visions mean that Leo's still alive. Here’s the original pictures because I think they can be in here-

I don’t think I’ll ever post the comic on tumblr or anywhere because I probably won’t ever finish it, but if I get to a certain point in the comic, (which is way far away) maybe I will. Idk.

*Cough* and then I also have a mini thing where I turned them all into mushroom people but that's a whole different thing-

NOW TO THE KID’S SHOW WHICH IS THE PART I’M ACTUALLY EXCITED ABOUT~

Like I said in this post, my friend texted me at like, 2 am on a school night, and was like, "Hey, hey hey... wanna write and animate a kid's show w/ me??" and I said heck yeah because I definitely have time for that. I asked her if she had any idea for what it would be about or anything like that and she did not, so we just kinda... pulled something out of the ground the next day and I ended up getting obsessed.

So, the kid's show...

We haven't figured out a name for it because we're both indecisive, which is... bad if you're trying to get something done. But we got characters and half a storyline settled!

So, the show is centered around four main characters, Atlas (A deer), Fern (A fox), Nutmeg (Mouse), and M I L D R E D (a chickadee). They're also in the post linked above.

The show would be about these four, going on little adventures, exploring the forest where they live, discovering odd creatures (thinking about adding in a few Acorn Creetchurs because that would be fun) and just living life

but as the series continues, the colors start to get more muted and the backgrounds start to get more gray, as if the life is being drained out of the forest.

one day, while exploring, they come upon this odd sort of... black goop that's spreading across the forest floor, infecting and killing everything it comes into contact with. Then, the four of them have to find a way to stop the spread of this odd goop. This goop represents pollution/deforestation, and we have a few ideas for how the goop started, one of my favorites being that it's controlled by some sort of animal spirit that grew up in a heavily polluted area and died at a young age because of the conditions and the only reason it's spreading is because it wants to be able to breathe fresh air and drink clean water for once, but it can't, because everything it touches immediately becomes polluted.

We both went into this knowing absolutely N O T H I N G about animating, so it'll probably be a few years until we're actually able to do anything with this, if we do anything with it.

That- that little animation is the most I can do with animation. That's the best I got.

Holy Crap, That is a Lot of Words: A "Brief" History of Jade E. Harley and the Alterra Timeline

April 13, Year 0 ATG (After the Game): Sburb is officially beaten and the new universe is created. This is where this timeline splits from the Alpha Timeline. Before opening the door, Karkat ends up speaking to Calliope and stops John from opening it. If she had been brought back from the dead, was it possible to bring back the other trolls? After some deliberation, the living players decided that it might be wise to do some preparation before entering the new universe. They didn’t know what to expect, and this was a second chance they were not ready to screw up.

Over the course of the next few months the players alongside representatives of the carapacians and consorts start laying out plans for the new universe. This includes how they would go about kickstarting the new civilization, starting with the foundation of a single settlement and a governing body. The Mayor is eventually elected the head of this governing body, with several of the “gods” playing active roles in society by serving or consulting on a variety of committees. All of the former players serve on a council put in place to safeguard the timeline, however, it is decided early on that no players would be permitted to hold elected roles that would influence governing policies. (Read as: Gods are not allowed to become president.)

After experimenting with several combinations of powers, the players finally figure out how to bring a ghost back without the use of a life ring… sort of. (This process became a bit more refined after Feferi was revived.) The hunt begins for the unaccounted for ghosts that are not currently a part of a sprite. During this time the players are guilt tripped convinced to bring the Beforian trolls with them as well. However, bringing back old friends does come with some cost. Davepeta for example had already vanished before the game ended. Nepeta’s ghost was eventually recovered (with her actually being the last to be revived), but there was no sign of what might be left of Davesprite. Hal is lost when bringing Equius out of the sprite, and Nanasprite and Jasprose both go missing during this time period.

Jade secretly stashes away a GREEN SUN spark somewhere during this time. To this day, no one knows but her. It’s hidden in a locket she keeps well buried in the back of her closet. She has methods in place to keep it from being detected. This is also why she still has a small degree of her first guardian powers. No one questions it (Rose and a few others probably do tbh) because “really, who completely understands how first guardians work anyway?”

September, Year 0 ATG: The door to the new universe is opened. The players and those who joined them start looking for a place to settle, as well where the meteor lab might have crashed. However, it for some reason can not be found.

Sometime before the end of Year 0 AGT: Aranea, Gamzee, and Jack are put in trial for their various actions during the game. (Vriska and Eridan would later be addressed as well, but those were the big 3.) Since there really wasn’t much of a justice system in place yet, there wasn’t a whole lot that could be done. (They are still working on it. It’s not a super big priority though since most of the timeline’s residents are really chill.) The two trolls are basically given a second chance under extremely close supervision. Jack however is placed under “house arrest”, with Ms. Paint acting as his supervisor of sorts.

July 15th, Year 1 AGT: Cantown is officially founded and named. Located near a river about 100 miles off the east coast of what used to be the United States. I never officially decided where, but I think my original idea was that it might have been somewhere in where South Carolina used to be. Note though, that Earth’s geography has changed significantly.

Sometime during Year 1 AGT: Jade’s first post game death due to a construction accident. Not just or heroic.

Year 2 AGT: Jade and Jake (now 18) move out from their shared residence with John and Jane into the tower they built much closer to the coast.

Sometime in Year 4 AGT: Dirk and Jade have a falling out after he and Jake get back together for the 3rd god dang time. Up until this point they actually had been decently good friends and often worked together since they both serve on the Science and Tech committee.

Jade discovers a natural pool in what used to be Central America, and starts conducting research on wildlife that lives there, including the rapid evolution of sburb generated fauna (Hummingbirds and frogs).

Mid-December Year 5 AGT: Jade (now 21) accidentally discovers access to what she calls the multi-net through a website called Hivetale. She tells Jake about this fairly early on since he lives with her. Lots of weird stuff happens.

January Year 6 AGT: Jade meets her first moirail (Eridan). He is the first visitor from outside her timeline. These visits are mostly one sided though, as she has no way to leave her timeline at this point.

Aradia finds out about this and puts in place the secrecy rule. As long as the multiverse shenanigans stay under wraps, she is fine. If the secret gets out or the timeline is in anyway threatened, they will be going into total lockdown permanently.

Jade becomes close with another timeline’s Alpha Dave (David) and Hal around this point.

Spring Year 6 AGT: Hal gets severely injured. She convinces Aradia to help her break out of the timeline to go and help him. They end up needing another time player to make this work, and Damara is recruited after Aradia strikes a deal with her. Jade… wasn’t entirely sure what that deal was and was kind of afraid to ask.

Turns out Hal’s version Dirk is the only one that knows how to fix him so enter this jerk. Seriously, she could not stand him at first because of how he treated Hal. Over time the two Striders ended up making up, and Jade befriended Dirk as well. (Aka, Grumpybutt.)

The ex moirail ends up moving in with her for a short time after his home gets destroyed by magical girls. Yes that is actually what happened, and no she did not tell Aradia about this.

Her timeline’s Rose and Kanaya get married.

Her timeline’s Dave and Karkat start dating.

John moves out from Jane’s house, and gets a place with Roxy and Calliope.

Summer Year 6 AGT: Hivetale says goodbye, Tumblr says hello.

Jade meets Jack within like the first month. He keeps trying to fight her and she is NOT having it. Frankly, she doesn’t trust him. It’s freaking JACK NOIR, and still in full Bec mode at that. If being in contact with anyone is going to be a danger to her timeline, it’s going to be him right?

“Wait who is this small dog child, and why/how the heck is she showing up at my house asking me to date her dad?” Jade meets Lily Noir, and the rest of the original 6 pups slowly make their way into her life. (Alpha, Bones, Timber, Demise, Lily, and Kami. The other 7 kids have not been born yet.) Jade reluctantly at first becomes friends with Jack. It… took awhile to get Lily to quit trying to get her to date Jack.

Jake eventually ends up finding out about the Noir kids and proceeds to be like wtf. To be fair, Kami was painting occult rituals on their wall.

Jade finds out Jake is planning to move in with Dirk. This ends up putting her in a really bad place mentally because she is terrified of the idea of living alone again after doing so for most her life. They come to a compromise, and this is when Dirk moves in with them much to her chagrin.

Jade gets pale married?? Yeah, so… funny thing. She had no idea that is what happened, or that was even a thing. She was basically given a ring thought she was just getting a 6 month anniversary present. She didn’t know it was a marriage thing until months later. Luckily, she was okay with it, just really surprised.

December, Year 6 AGT: Jade gets Poppy (her eevee) as a birthday present. Hiding her from Dirk is a massive pain, but she manages. Again, Jade didn’t tell Aradia. She found out of course eventually, but this was months later so by then Jade was able to convince her that she could keep the little terror hidden.

Year 7 AGT: Okay, so my memory gets a little foggy for the next few years, but I’m going to do my best. First off though, Jade finally gets a inter-dimensional portal device.

Jade also gets Olena (her then Vulpix, now Ninetails) around late November. Dinah, her dog, was given to her by Jack that December.

Jade’s second death by plant spore induced strangulation. The purple stranglers are discovered and appropriately named.

That one time she was magic anon-ed and given butterfly wings and antenna instead of her dog ears for like a week. That sucked.

Also briefly turned into a griffin of all things by an anon. She hated that.

The dislocated knee incident.

Year 8-9 AGT: Okay, I might be off here, but I am about 80% sure this is when Flarping 2.0 happened.

Olena evolves.

Hal and Grumpybutt Dirk vanished around Summer Year 8 a few months before she joined Flarping.

If I’m right then this is when she met Equius, Kris, EE, Vinny, and a few others. She was still on Tumblr some, but mostly on Flarping.

I want to say she met Nova as well? Which also means she got Gilligan (Her robotic humming bird assistant), though I do think that was post Flarping.

Mer-May anon stikes. She basically gets stuck in a bathtub for a week.

I believe this is when Paradox Space was a thing for a little as well.

Built the cabin near the pool mentioned earlier, mostly to give her a place to let her pets wander freely and host visitors from outside the timeline where Dirk wouldn’t be an issue. But it also serves as a place to do her research. The ex moirail lived here for a few months at one point.

Year 10 AGT: Back to Tumblr.

Jade has to put Herbert the frog in solitary confinement away from other frogs.

Roxy and John get engaged. No, they still aren’t married.

The ex moirail goes MIA.

Jade and Equius start getting together. Not like “together” together though. Nooooo never.

3rd Death by late onset of the family peanut allergy.

The tiny metal baby (Orion Pax the Aron) is hatched by an egg left at Jade’s cabin by Ivory Noir.

Year 11 AGT: Not a whole lot happens unless I am forgetting something. Jade slowly starts to resent the now ex-moirail as he kind of just vanished without telling her, and she starts to realize some other things about the relationship as well. She finally decides to move on.

Equius gives her Oleander (Turtwig).

Gilligan starts acting… odd.

Year 12 AGT: PRESENT DAY Jade turns 29 this year.

Gilligan starts acting more odd.

Not a whole lot of anything too crazy.

Kris and Jade become moirails.

Year 13 AGT and forward: Gilligan is [Spoilers]. You’ll see it eventually. It’s about time I got that plot point moving. Anyway, from here on out, there is some discrepancy when it comes to the future of the timeline. Basically, Jade and the other immortals continue on their lives as civilization grows around them. Eventually though, there is a timeline split that leads to one of two potential far-off futures. Like hundreds of years off. One is the “good end”. Jade ends up raising a family of family of 4 adopted kids, and maaaaybe gets together with someone. (Big maybe) It’s just a happy, well-adjusted life where nothing bad will happen. No haha, not at all. The other is the “bad end”, which… basically involves Jade starting to take the goddess thing a bit too seriously after she gets ditched by most of the people in her life, and becomes the ruler of a new planet dubbed New Prospit. She does have an adopted son in this timeline who is killed during an attempted assassination, and whoops this starts a war.

I truly didn’t know what would shake out with Savvy, if they’d find her or not, who would find her, when, where, how. This was so good. So perfect. The fact that Ellie was with Joel surely put Savvy at ease. He knew just what to say. The fact that truly Ellie was integral since she clocked the snare in the first place.

I really tried to keep Savvy's fate a mystery so we really felt some of how Bambi's been feeling all this time! But Joel immediately going into girl dad mode with her just... I love him. I love him so much. And Ellie being there helped so much, both because she saw the snare but also because she was basically a walking green flag. This young girl is OK with this man - clearly willing to kill for this man - so he's trustworthy. She was integral to getting Savvy home. Joel's baby saved Bambi's baby and I love them for it.

OMG I'm so happy my writing has made you feel so deeply! These characters and stories mean so much to me and the fact that they have an impact on others is so extraordinary to me. I love storytelling so much, that we can all experience these things together and share in the grief and the love and the passion and the joy.

You're not the first to mention a Ko-Fi and I haven't set one up simply because I genuinely don't need the money? In a lot of ways, I've lucked into a fairly comfortable life (not trying to downplay the fact that I've worked and struggled but I've had a lot of privilege and a lot of luck) and have everything I need, most things I want and a nice savings account. And AHH yes I totally get you! I wanted Julie to happen for a few reasons? Mostly so Bambi wasn't just singularly focused on Joel. I don't think that suits who she is as a person and I don't think it would be good for her to do that, either. But I also wanted her to really understand that yes, Joel is it for her. She's never felt this way about anyone else and she never will again and moving beyond that - especially when he's RIGHT THERE - isn't going to happen. She needs to learn how to accept and forgive his past and trust who he is now otherwise she's going to be stuck living without the kind of love she knows is out there. She really knows that now and it's putting her in the right place to really process what happened with Joel. They're so close! They really are!

so luke’s always been plagued with the gift of seeing ghosts - he hates it, it’s mostly annoying when they show up unannounced declaring that he has to help them — and worst of all, it’s exhausting having to get rid of the creepy ones in ways other than just guiding them spiritually (ie beating the crap out of them)

it took up too much of his time and he just wanted to focus on his music man

he figures out at one point tho that he can make a business out of it — make some money by advertising his skills (without his parents knowing cause well. they wouldn’t necessarily agree to it) and getting people to pay him to ‘exorcise’ ie beat the crap out of ghosts that refuse to move on and just insist on haunting the living

(alex and reggie know about this of course. esp when they suddenly have nicer practice rooms to chill in. alex isn’t thrilled he’s actually terrified, but reggie just wants to join in on all the client calls luke gets)

AND THIS IS WHERE IT GETS INTERESTING: so one day luke gets a text from a potential client asking him to head over to the abandoned los feliz high school building (that particular building was shut down a couple years ago because of a tragedy and hasn’t really been dealt with yet)

BUT BASICALLY the text asks him to check out the building cause there’s this one notorious ghost that keeps scaring all the high school students in the buildings nearby and they just need it to be dealt with (he’s seen those high school kids running past it like their lives depended on it

luke’s happy to oblige, especially when he finds out how much the client is willing to pay, and heads over — only to get the surprise of a lifetime. he meets a ghost who 1. turns out to be the one who texted him (so he’s not getting paid and that’s not great news) and 2. is a cute girl who looks very much human and not like any of the other ghosts he’s met before

he’s taken aback, especially when she kicks his ass (and helps him kick the resident ghost’s ass)

it’s a whole cat and mouse thing for a while, she keeps following him whenever he’s alone and he keeps telling her to leave him alone (mostly cause she’s hella cute and he seriously can’t afford to catch feelings for a dead girl yknow). he tells her she needs to pay him or move on and she keeps insisting that she just wants to figure out who she is!! how she died!! who her family is!! so that she can move on!!!

so they strike up a deal: he helps her (her name’s julie, by the way) figure out who she is, the mystery revolving her death and why she can’t remember anything, and she, in turn, helps him on the job (she’s got a wicked left kick), slowly paying him back with her skills since she never paid him for that one job (the abandoned high school building, remember that?)

so she tags along wherever he goes (at first to his dismay), even joining in on band practice (the boys know of her existence and try to be as considerate as possible considering they can’t see her)

things start to change between the two the second luke hears julie sing, fingers slipping on metal strings when she follows the melody perfectly and holy shit he’s a goner (the boys are confused af they’ve never seen luke lose focus when it comes to band practice)

THEY SPEND THE NIGHT TALKING AND HE FINDS OUT SHE DIDNT EVEN KNOW SHE COULD SONG- he tries to get her to play various instruments to see maybe she was into that and turns out she can play piano!! and oh?? After eight months out with injury, Ellie Carpenter is back: "At Lyon, it's always about winning"

She may be the most French out of the international player at Olympique Lyonnais. In any case it's in Molière's language that Ellie Carpenter, who came to Lyon in July 2020, takes part in this interview. Eight months after her severe knee injury in the final of the Champions League, and two weeks after her return to the field, the Australian international looks back on this difficult period. The Lyon right back also talks about her career oath and her ambitions to experience a really good second half of the second with Lyon, "the best women's club in the world," with whom she has signed for until 2026.

How did you experience this return to the field?

There was a lot of emotion. I hadn't played for eight months... It was a long time, I didn't always have good moments. There was a lot of work as well. I'm really happy to be back with the team, with my friends.

Physically, how do you feel?

I'm back 100 percent. I told Sonia (Bompastor) and the staff that I didn't want to play again until that was the case. I felt good in training the week before the game against Rodez, so I let the coach know. I was able to play 30 minutes, I was really happy. It did [me] a lot of good.

Have you rekindled your speed again?

Yes, I think so (laughter). I even feel stronger and faster than before my injury, because I did a lot of physical fitness for eight months. When you tear your ACL, your leg muscles become all weak, it's hard to get them strong again. I still have to do twice as much fitness.

How did you experience this injury [process]?

It was my first serious injury in my career. Before that, my maximum, it was being out for two weeks. But it was good for me. It taught me a lot of things, like patience, because I am someone who needs things to go fast all the time usually. There, it was 4-5 hours of work each day, always having to do the same exercises over and over, it was really hard for me. But I was really well supported during my entire rehab by Rémi (Pullara), the physical therapist, who was with me every day, through good days and bad.

A lot of players were injured at the same time as you, was that easier to experience?

Yes, even if for the team, it wasn't good to have so many injured players at the same time (laughter). But just seeing them, saying hello, working together sometimes, that helps.

During those hard times, were you able to seek comfort from your loved ones?

Yes, I called my family but it was complicated with the time zone difference. There is twelve hours difference, when it's the morning in Lyon, it's night time in Sydney. But I was able to take advantage of this injury to spend six weeks in Australia last summer, with my parents and my brother. It had been such a long time since that had happened, because since I was 16, I only saw my family once or twice a year on average. Seeing them over a longer period of time was really good for me mentally, and it helped with my knee [rehab] as well.

How did you get into football?

My parents were both PE teachers at school. We're all really sporty in our family. I started playing football around 3-4 years old, with my brother. I played with the boys until I was 12. I wanted to beat them so I needed to be at the top athletically because we weren't on the same muscular level. I think my aggressive and physical style of play is a result of that.

You also performed at a high level in athletics, correct?

Yes, until I was 12. My specialty was the 100m sprint. My record 12.74 seconds.

Is there a competition between you and Delphine Cascarino?

(Laughter) We never ran against each other, but I think it would be pretty even. Delph' [Delph = nickname for Delphine] and me, we're the two fastest players on the team. I really like playing with her, it solidifies the right side.

So you preferred football over athletics then?

Yeah, with the exception of the Olympics, there are more international opportunities in football compared to athletics. Beyond that, I like team sports, I'm more at ease playing a team sport than an individual one.

You made the right choice: at 16, you participated in your first Olympic Games with the Australian National Team?

Yeah, I was really young, it was a super experience. When I was 12 to 15, I trained every day in sports studies with the boys. I had a lot of specific sessions to work on technique with a specific trainer. Before that, I played with the U-16s, then the U-20s as well, when I was 14. I was always out of my depth. At that time, I wasn't a defender, I was playing as a 10. Then I dropped back, they offered the right back position and that suits me really well: you can defend as well as attack, even if what I prefer is to defend. I prefer to stop a forward from scoring by blocking her shot than to score.

You've been at Lyon since July 2020 and you extended until 2026, just after your injury. Was there any hesitation?

I feel really good here. I see myself [staying] in the longterm with this team. I don't see a better environment [elsewhere] for me. The quality of the training sessions, the club's infrastructure, the generosity of staff up to the president really make it the best women's club of the world.

How is it different than what you experienced in Australia and in the United States?

It's a question of mentality first and foremost. Here, it's always about winning, winning, winning. We always want to win, be the best all the time, whether it's in training or during games. This mentality allows you to push yourself, to give your best.

At Lyon, you've known two trainers. In an interview with The Guardian, you said you were more in line with the coaching of Sonia Bompastor. How is it different than that of Jean-Luc Vasseur?

The two coaches had a completely different method. I like to play with a lot of freedom, to not have to overthink. When a coach tells me to just play my game, I'm more at ease. Sonia [Bompastor] is like that. She also gives me advice as a former defender.

You're very young. In what areas do you think you can progress?

Athletically, it'll be harder to be even faster (laughter). But technically, there's always room to be better. I can improve on the quality of my crosses, for example. Lyon is the best place to improve, next to the best players in the world. I'm 22, almost 23 [Carpenter's birthday is in April]. I think that at 26-27, I will be at my peak.

Will the second half of the season be less complicated than the first?

The first half was complicated because there were a lot of injuries. The results weren't always great but weren't catastrophic either [Losing 5-1 to Arsenal kind of qualifies as catastrophic in my mind but whatever]. The team did some really good things despite the difficult context. The return of several players changed things. The team is becoming stronger and stronger and the second half of the season will be very interesting.

The first big test is this quarterfinal of the Champions League against Chelsea. How do you see that game?

I think it's like a final. Chelsea is currently the best team in England. It's the kind of game we all want to play during our career. Playing at Stamford Bridge, that will be really cool.

Would you have preferred another opponent?

We have to beat the best teams anyway to go all the way. The level of the quarters is so high that each game is like a final.

Will you be the outsider or the favorite?

I don't care! For the final against Barcelona, everyone saw us losing and we saw the result. Anything can happen in the Champions League. What I am sure of, is that's it is going to be a really big game.

Will you explain to your teammates how to neutralize your national teammate Sam Kerr?

Indeed, I know her really well. She's an exceptional player, who scores a lot and is really fast. I've started talking about it to Wendie [Renard]. But we will also go up against Kadeisha Buchanan who knows us really well as well.

The World Cup will take place this summer at your home in Australia. It must be really special for you?

It's an absolute dream to play it at home. When it comes to winning it, that will be difficult but we have a good team, so who knows?

How is this World Cup shaping up?

I think it will be the best World Cup in history, especially because for the first time there will be 32 teams, just like for the men. We always play in a sold-out stadium with the National Team. Our first game was scheduled to be played in a small stadium but there was such a high demand [for tickets] that it will be played in a stadium with a capacity of 80,000 people. There's a real momentum, women's football is developing well in Australia. It will be even better after the World Cup.

How do you explain then that all the international players play in Europe?

The problem is that the Australian league only lasts 4 months, which is really short. That's why I went to play in the NWSL, which lasts eight months. We've all done that, but it's hard physically, and there are never any vacations. There must be 13 or 14 Australian who play in the English league, 4 in Sweden. And me, the only one in France!

How is Ellie Carpenter off the field?

I'm somebody who is really calm. I like the city and the simple things. Like walking along the Rhône or the Saône [rivers in Lyon] when it is nice outside, and get a coffee in a nice area with friends. I always find the best cafes in a city. It seems that you have a really cheerful attitude?

I'm always happy, always up to do something. I'm really open and always the first to organize a dinner or an outing on our days off, with the other girls from the team. Especially with the other foreign players, we're all really close because unlike the French players, we don't have our families here and that brings us closer.

Do you have any other hobbies?

A little bit of shopping, some series on Netflix such as "Blood and Water" or even "You", which I'm watching at the moment. Sometimes going to the movies with Vanessa Gilles and Ada Hegerberg, who go a lot. But the movie can't last longer than 2 hours because otherwise I don't have the patience for it (laughter).

Do you appreciate Lyon cuisine?

Yeah. I confess I have a weakness for pralines. But you have a real problem here in France with the restaurants. You can't eat before 7.30pm ... That's much too late! In Australia, it's as of 5pm. But anyway, I'm starting to get used to it...

She has beaten all the records of youth accomplishments

From the first questions regarding her rehab, Ellie Carpenter indicates that the hardest part for her was being patient. Waiting isn't really her thing. It must be that the Australian player has always been a quick and dynamic player. After having played in various youth teams, she made her debut in the Australian W League, the equivalent of the D1 Arkema [French League], at 15. Then the following year she was part of the Australian National Tea, at the Olympic Games in Rio. A huge memory for her, at the time the youngest athlete representing the Australian delegation, all sports considered. At the same time, she would become the youngest football of all time to take part in the Olympic Games.

On May 9, 2018, while she plays in the American League after having signed for the Portland Thorns, she also beats the record for youngest player, at 18 years old and 11 days, during her first game in the NWSL. 11 days later, she scores a goal against Washington and becomes the youngest goal scorer in the history of the American League.

last song: According to my phone, "Holy Ground" by TS. I've been on my exclusively Taylor playlist since we bought our concert tickets (for next July! *sigh*) last month.

currently watching: I'm on an ER binge--it's just so fascinating to see how much the world/how the world is displayed in media changed in the last 30-15 years. The early seasons were full of HIV storylines, because it was just so relevant, while today's medical dramas barely even touch on the topic anymore. And I'm al cracking up about (kinda) how media even 15 years ago liked to pretend that bisexual people don't exist. I'm just at the storyline when it turns out that Pratt's little brother is gay, but "it's just a phase and he is bringing up girls anyway" and it doesn't occur to anyone, not even to Weaver, that him being bisexual is a possibility. And I'm also waiting for the next episode of Miracle Workers.

currently reading: Amari and the Night Brothers by B. B. Alston (the sequel of which is my next translation project), which is a nice middle-grade fantasy with a Black protagonist. It's cute and very imaginative and uses great metaphors for racial profiling and the general situation of disadvantaged Black youth. But it's also very middle-grade in some sense, while in other I guess some of the references are lost on the younger readers. The Martyr by Anthony Ryan (aka my current translation project), an epic medieval fantasy. I was obsessed with the first book in the series (I also translated that), and I like this one okay, but not as much as the first one. I'm also technically reading How to Fake It in Hollywood by Ava Wilder--which I originally thought was a light romantic comedy, but it's actually a bit darker than that--, but I haven't opened it in a while.

current obsession: Beyond the not-so-nice ohmygodIwon'tfinishmydissertationintime-thing? (No, we are not obsessing over that. We are not even thinking about that. Honestly, don't talk to me about that.) There is a small Hungarian natural cosmetics/skin care company called Yamuna, and I've used their products before, but I just tried out their cold-pressed skin scrub soap with ground almonds and holy crap my skin has never been this smooth. The skin next to my nose tends to get very dry and flaky, and it completely fixes that.

i've definitely said something like this before but holy crap dude, ls dunes have quite literally changed the trajectory of my life, and every time i see them, it feels like they've done the same for so many people there. i just want to, post-thursday's toronto show, talk a little about how special this band is (this is probably gonna get long).

i've come to care about this band so goddamn much in, well, definitely the 11 months since they first announced themselves, but even moreso the 8 months since past lives dropped & i saw them for the first time @ dunesday toronto '22.

for a little recap of my dunes origin story, as a 22 y/o i grew up in the mid 2010s scene, right? so most of the bands i knew n loved growing up were those & i had never truly done a deep dive into a lot of 2000s/even early 2010s stuff. of course, the biggest, most accessible bands that started during that time were an exception, people like fob, or ptv, or, well, mcr. and a lot of other bands' biggest songs, etc.

so one part of my thought process the day dunes got announced was "woah new frank band? cool, let's see who's in it!" and that's what made me click into the first article i saw.

and the other part: like i kinda alluded to, i'm very active in the scene, i love going to shows & getting involved and i am truly trying to make it my life even moreso (via live music photograohy n design stuff, and hopefully eventually music stuff?). point is, late last july i signed up to volunteer @ a scene fest kinda in my area, my home here in upstate ny, at the time i hadn't been to many shows alone before so i was kinda nervous about heading two hours away by myself, on top of not really knowing what i was gonna be doing volunteerwise, but something pushed me to decide to go through w it. and this thing had the most random (/pos) assortment of the scene. from big metalcore outfits to modern faces of emo/pop punk/post hardcore to localish hardcore, you get the idea. i had a blast & got to watch a ton of sets.

anyways, near the end of the day some dude i'd definitely heard of by name and was aware was some big dude in the scene from some band (my phone was dead so it was killing me i couldn't look that up hhhh), was about to play a solo set so i figured i'd drop by and catch a bit. i was hanging outside of that stage and suddenly bro started playing and i thought "damn, this dude seems cool" then, naturally, weaved my way into the crowd, watched his full hourish long set since he was the last on that stage, and thought, "damn, this dude is cool." besides his music, i remember admiring the way he talked w the crowd, and then after, the way he stood around and chatted extensively with every last person like they were an old friend (i just kinda stood off to the side in my "staff" shirt watching and probably smiling, figuring i'd let dude's genuine fans have their moment... little did i know). anyways, naturally i'm talking about anthony here, and that night when i got home i looked him up and saw he was from circa & saosin and had a Revelation since of course being in the scene i knew about those bands, and i basically vowed to get into bro's music. and, well, safe to say i found a way less than a month later when i opened that article and saw he was singing in a new band with the guitarist of one of the bands that's meant the most to me for the longest (spoiler: i lost my mind when i saw he was the singer in a "YES! this dude" kinda way).

anyways, since then i'd argue my love for mcr somehow grew (i like to think that's because a lot of my love for music relies on connection & community, more on that later), i (specifically surrounding seeing them @ adjacent) have been getting into thursday & coheed, and, of course, last december i got hugely into tsoaf n traveled 2 see them in january, come february i discovered saosin, & thanks to a rec from a kind person outside the dunes show the other night, i'm now becoming irreversibly attached to circa as well. these people's music has changed my goddamn life, and it's all bands i'd never really looked into before despite of course being aware of them. and that is special.

also, at no other show (and shows in general are my favorite place in the world) have i experienced quite the level of community (random but something i've specifically noticed @ dunes & tsoaf & anthony's solo shows is that circa fans are SO nice?) i do at dunes shows. i've been alone every time i've seen them, but never felt less lonely. the show quite literally ended and i immediately had multiple people yelling (/pos) things at me about my midtown shirt, coming up to talk to me in general, and hell, even I had absolutely no problem going up to people with total confidence to chat, something i usually shake in my boots over. we had a freakin campfire style singalong going. i got to talk to people about traveling for shows who do the same with their time, hell, this was the first time i ever got to ramble in person about my love for tsoaf to someone that actually knew what the hell i was talking about. i spoke to people from all over, both physically and from different parts of the scene and yet we had all ended up right here. stuff feels like the embodiment of the dunes whole "lost souls found" thing, dude.

ls dunes gave me the opportunity twice now to chat with somebody (frank) whose music has been with me for the entire going on ten years since i got into the scene. something that wouldn't really (understandably) be possible at an mcr show. and we've reached the point as of thursday's show that i don't feel nervous going up to him anymore either, we entirely just had a pretty long, chill conversation and goofed off a little and i will never take that for granted. i mean that in a "historically interactions with folks in bands i look up to in this scene have meant the world to me because, like i mentioned earlier, my love for music stems from a community "scene" based idea that we're all just people passionate about this stuff" way.

and of course, the shows themselves, but i'm not sure i can accurately describe those, it's something you need to experience for yourself. i have considered toronto1 my favorite show i've been to ever since it happened, and i have been going to shows since 2014. these dudes have chemistry like no other, and you just get the sense watching them that they were born to do this together. and don't get me started on anthony's crowd interaction stuff. he has become one of my favorite frontpeople (if not my genuine favorite) over this past year. no one does it like that dude does.

anyways, i don't know that i've ever felt quite this way about any band before, which seems crazy for me becayse i care deeply about so many bands. ls dunes is special. all i know is i legitimately have not stopped thinking about the dunes since the toronto show thursday, to the point of being kinda perpetually shaky & endlessly needing to remind myself it's okay, they're not going away yet, i still have one more show in pittsburgh this thursday. i truly hope i can talk to the other dudes (especially anthony since i feel like so much of this lore involves him) and tell them some of this then, and maybe meet some of you, too (i'll definitely be getting there early & also sticking around after)!

and no matter what, i can't wait for this show, and all the shows to come, man. so there's the complete wavernot4love recap, well, so far.

Feathers Reacts: Motorcity - Episode 11 - Off the Rack

Time for more Motorcity! Now with more Julie. :)

Episode 11 Thoughts

Oh, the Burners are helping refugees from Deluxe escape! I'm really curious about what exactly the political situation is in Deluxe - how much of the population opposes Kane? I mean, they live in a corporate dictatorship, but it seems entirely possible for someone like Claire to never feel like their freedoms have been limited, and to be extremely sheltered from the violence caused by Kane's expansionist tendencies. Anybody doing polls up in Deluxe? XD

Julie, Julie, Julie. Do you feel guilty because you couldn't help the Burners on this particular mission, or do you feel guilty because you're keeping secrets, or do you feel guilty because your dad is a cruel person with anger management issues who you love anyway? Because I have a feeling all of that guilt is about to result in some real unfortunate decisions.

Claire's total lack of understanding about why Julie is rebelling against Deluxe is just so darn intriguing to me. No understanding of broader social causes - maybe that's the effect of propaganda, maybe it's a bit of willful ignorance given that she's met people from Motorcity - but she's incredibly loyal to Julie on a personal level. Claaaaaaaire I wanna know more about what goes on in your brain!!!

Texas . . . don't be a bully. :( What's up with you, man? I know he's not the best on picking up on other people's emotions, but this "Miss Deluxe" feels very targeted. On the other hand - Texas is a big bundle of machismo, which - I mean, that sort of braggadocio and extreme performance of masculinity often implies a lot of insecurities. In which case you could interpret his behavior as a projection of his own need to be perceived as masculine. Since Julie is "one of the guys" in his head, she falls into the category of "people whose gender I need to police to make sure I'm not girly."

Mike: "You don't need to prove anything." This guy is so good to his friends, I am filled with warmth.

"The percentage of defecting Deluxians is miniscule." Ahhhh, so this answers some of my questions from the beginning of the episode. And Kane's reply! "We lost Mike Chilton and look where that got us." It's really all about Mike, isn't it? Kane would expand into Motorcity even if Mike hadn't defected, but I wonder how much of his wrath towards the place is specifically about losing control of his prize cadet.

Uhhhhh those cube things don't have people in them, right?? No, the Burners definitely just took down some buildings. Well, now Kane is launching actual human beings at their cars. I guess everybody's wearing invulnerability suits, so no harm done, but holy shit. If there are no casualties here it'll be a miracle.

HAHAHAHAHA oh my GOD Kane's advertisement for Kane Shades with his naked sweating muscular chest, what the HELL?? It's making me think of various other real-life dictators and autocrats who have tried to hype their own sex appeal in state propaganda. XD

Julie: "Are you insane??" Mike: "You'll be fine; you've got the safety suit!" Julie: "Yeah, but what about you??" Mike: "I've got Mutt" :) Mike is such an adrenaline junkie

With Kane pulling crap like this it's a wonder there isn't a higher percentage of defectors. Ahhh but he blamed the Burners. I see.

Concluding Thoughts:

It seems like it never really sunk in for Julie that she doesn't need to prove anything to anyone. And I think that indicates that her insecurity stems from guilt about lying to her teammates and guilt about her father, because those are the things that haven't changed. At least she can confide in Claire.

And speaking of Claire! What an intriguing character! She's not about to join the revolution, per se, but on the other hand she is absolutely risking her life when she lies to Kane to cover for Julie. I love it. :)

Texas is just. A lot. In Texas-ify It, he was slightly humbled by realizing he had misplaced the trust he put in Kaia, but I wonder if we're going to get a Texas-centric episode where he learns to be generally more emotionally aware. We don't need Mike levels of intuitive empathy here, just - I think it would be interesting to poke a little bit more at his character and why he behaves the way he does, and what it would take to get him to make an effort to change his behavior for his friends.
