I mean, in game “Emmet” was Ansy’s rival, so I had to have a good reason why. Testing your friend‘s skill to see whether she truly can help your twin brother seems reasonable.

Also, yeah - the way Galar’s “Elite 4” is formatted (tournament style), there can only be one Champion every year, & Ansy couldn’t have beaten Ikrit. After that first journey together, Ansy had made some improvement, largely thanks to Ikrit (aka the mister taught me about actual strategy lol, where I used to just breeze through the games without really considering stats, STAB, natures, etc).

But Emmet doesn’t know that. Yet.

Love love love the idea that the Sinnoh league is super close with one another and just about all the league members get along to some degree or at least are cordially professional with one another, and are also one of the fiercest and most functional leagues in-universe. With other leagues there's little spats or drama that comes and goes (I feel like the Kalos league in particular would be dripping with drama) but the Sinnoh league? They know how to get along and for the most part everyone enjoys each other's company and are really good at collaborating and being competent

Not that one might guess that tho if you sat in on one of their league meetings, I feel like they treat it more like a family reunion and some people brought food to share and everyones talking over one another and they haven't even made it to point two on the agenda and Lucian has SUCH a migraine

pokeani moments that exist purely to make Me miserable:

the line where they call ash's oshawott a throwaway pokemon in the unova league so they're just flat out saying they think it's a worthless pokemon

to thine own pokemon be true (extra angst points for me bc ambipom was my second favorite on the team at the time)

the granddaughter of the guy who trains gliscor calling gliscor pathetic and weak to her face despite gliscor being an extremely sensitive pokemon

pretty much everything about that gible

blue episode (favorite color but they made it a fetish somehow and also dewott and brionne and meowstic are all there and its so bad)

boxing heracross immediately. also that battle frontier episode where it's literally the only returning ash mon (barring torkoal i think but i dont count it bc its native to AG) to get humiliated onscreen

pidgeot returning but gliscor didn't even show up in the miniseries despite being an Actual Character

aw yisssss i get to go to opelucid city next and it’s part of the plot. i adore that the gym leaders professor and rivals are all part of the story. like i enjoy that we’re going to see drayden bc we need his help and not just bc i’m some plucky kid going through the gym circuit as part of my slice of life adventure anymore. the situation is more serious than that now
