Art Progress: 10 May (cont.)

Following on from my progress drawing the human figure yesterday, I decided to try another sketch of a character in my long-abandoned story:

In terms of capturing the shadow and proportions accurately, this was above my skill level. Still, I know what to improve on subsequent attempts:

The shading of the lower part of her right-hand side is unrealistic, so I have to improve that. I filled in the hairline through my own imagination, because otherwise she would look bald. 

Furthermore, I need more practice with eyes, lips, and noses. 

Still, have to begin somewhere! Feedback on improving my faces would be appreciated.

Another Inktober drawing. This was from the Spells & Stars Prompt List, so that means it has different things then the one everyone is working from. Today’s theme is ‘Glowing’ so I had decided on working with the Pacific Sea Nettle.

Art Progress: 11 May 2020

Drawing Time: 1 hour

Number of sketches: 5 (Daily goal reached!)

Good Points: More figure drawing

To improve: Lines (again!) and leaves

I did some more figure drawing today, this time focusing on the legs:

Don’t ask about the higher pair of thighs-- way out of proportion, LOL. 

I had been meaning to copy out some drawings from from Colouring Book, which is here:

This would be a great way of practicing natural scenes, given the limited time spent outside. 

I decided to draw the house from the first page:

I struggled to draw the house in a realistic angle. The more I draw buildings, the more I realise the mathematical precision required. I don’t draw with a ruler, hence why my lines are so wobbly. I still have too much control of the pencil and don’t allow my arm to move freely. I might have to change my drawing space, particularly as I have just begun using a standing desk (the top of my drawers, LOL). I realised the roof HAD to be perpendicular to the window. 

The sketch marked #4 is a cluster of leaves with a butterfly. 

I then finished with a still life of stationery on my desk. Since my desk is always cluttered with stationery, I should try more still life sketches.

Pleased with today’s progress, because I was hovering between worrying that I would have no time to sketch and finding ways to procrastinate until the evening. I think that drawing in the afternoon/early evening works better for me, as my brain has already wound down from any kind of heavy writing work.
