Skin care and Birchbox

Hello, everyone!

So, recently I decided to hop on the monthly Birchbox subscription train.  I have never purchased any type of box sub.  I have never been big into makeup or everything that goes hand in hand with it.  A large reason for my aversion to makeup and skin care products is my skin type.  I have extremely sensitive skin!  To the point that most fragrances and dyes wreck my body.  Medium to harsh chemicals burn me and cause lesions.  Also, any product that says “fragrance” in the ingredients causes painful hives anywhere it touches.  Naturally, I use 7th generation laundry soap, fabric softener and dryer sheets.  I have found a product out of CA called Petal Fresh that is all organic and has never left me red or hiving after a shower.  Another struggle along with that is my sensitivity to jewelry.  If it isn't pure gold or silver and isn't stainless steel or surgical steel, then I can’t wear it.  My skin corrodes the metals and it wrecks my piercings!  With all that being said, you can see why I shy away from most makeup, skin care products and random boxes of unknown items with unknown ingredients.  I mean I can’t even use bath and body works products.  :(       

With all that being said, I just started my new skin care routine and spoiled myself with the gift of Birchbox!  I'm first gonna talk a little about Birchbox and then I will touch on my sensitive skin care routine!  

Honestly, I was really blown away by the Birchbox set up, app and presentation!  The app is easy to use and it goes into such detail about your skin type profile!  I really appreciated them selling and listing hypoallergenic and organic products.  They are hard to find at a reasonable price and I think this company does a great job of providing high end sample to encourage proper care items for you vs buying whatever is on sale at Walmart!  I cannot describe how excited I am for my first box.  I can’t wait to tell you all more when it comes in!  To anyone looking for an extremely versatile makeup/hair care/ skincare/ beauty product site or monthly box.... I would highly recommend this for you!  :)

Alright, on to my new skin care routine.  I am gonna be completely honest, I haven't had a skin routine in quite a few years.  It really boils down to me being scared of products.  So many times I would buy a product that was “all natural”, “natural fragrance” or “hypoallergenic” that made me want to hide my face and body due to extreme hives.  I am so very happy and excited about these products that I researched.  And let me tell you what, I did my research!!!  I have now started to use the CeraVe SA renewing cleanser.  I am currently pairing that with the Burt’s Bees sensitive daily moisturizing cream.  I have been doing this routine for almost a week now and I can totally notice a difference in my facial skin and the texture of my skin.  I haven't had a single red spot nor seen any hives.  I am so very happy I decided to do some research and try again.  Cannot say enough great things about these products!

The path I took to heal my PD was a long one and I'm still figuring new things out, the truth is, no one knows the real cure to perioral dermatitis, but luckily, I discovered what to avoid and created a routine that fits my needs.

Here are the steps I took to cure my perioral dermatitis:

Step #1 DETOX. I got rid of every single product in my beauty cabinet that had phthalates, parabens, toluene, sulfates, alcohol, and petroleum. There are more chemical ingredients out there that I'm sometimes allergic to but these are the main culprits. Reading the ingredients list is now a MUST for me. I also stopped using oils on my face, I know, even the good ones. Oils simply block my pores and when you have PD, they almost always make it worse. My technique now is to re-use my favorite oils and give love to my décolletage and neck, nothing above that.

Step #2 ATTACKED BY CATEGORIES. After eliminating and replacing my skin care products by non-toxic ones. I tackled other areas of personal hygiene such as body products and hair care. I bought organic body wash and lotions and replaced my shampoos and other hair products with non-toxic ones. Extra points on that, my hair thanked me. It stopped falling!! I also switched my toothpaste to a flouride-free and SLS-free brand (flouride and SLS trigger PD), my favorite brand is called Davids.

Step #3 SAID "THANK YOU, NEXT" TO MY MAKEUP ROUTINE. As you know, make up- specially foundations tend to have oils and often times contain Butylene Glycol, nano particles, petrochemicals, etc. which in some people has no effect at all but in me...God help me. It gives me BAD acne and triggers my perioral dermatitis. So I had to do some research and buy from organic brands. The difference? My acne decreased exponentially and the bumpy rashes around my chin dissapeared. I also replaced the glossy lipsticks and petroleum based chapsticks (anyone else has super dry lips?) with organic versions, current favorite brands are CocoKind and Vapour but I'm always trying new ones!

I had got this @cascadiasoaps mint and aloe body lotion from the hospital when I was admitted about a year ago. I used it then and they gave me a brand new one when I had left. My skin was super dry from all the diuretics I was on. My hands were super cracked and this helped them heal big time. I was surprised to get such a nice product from a hospital. The formula didn’t irritate my sensitive skin at all. Barring any complications on pricing.. How to take care of your skin in humid weather?

If you’ve been trying to figure out the best skin treatment to follow in this humid weather, then read this blog to know the process in simple steps.

In humid weather our skin tends to produce oil which is called sebum. It naturally protects our skin from dryness. Sebum can be good for skin or can be a dangerous enemy, depending on the type of your skin. If you live in humid climate, you’re not likely to love sebum, because too much of oil on the skin surface causes clogged pores, resulting in acnes and other skin issues.

Step 1 Wash:
