What an achievement for Dev Patel.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
MONKEY MAN is lit, it's fire, it's bananas
Tumblr media
it's a wild action, vibrant, brutal action flick that is right up there with the best of the best.
It's very easy to compare it to the JOHN WICK film (the JOHN WICK stunt team was to do the fight choreography but in one of the multitudes of bad luck that happened to the film during production namely Covid 19, but including the studio going bankrupt, Patel's gaffer dying from a heart attack, losing the location he scouted for four to five months, having to move the shoot from India to Indonesia, thus losing much of the production team and their equipment and Patel breaking his hand on his very first stunt, and injuring his foot when a stuntman stepped on it) Patel lost the stunt team), and while Patel has said his influences were bombastic Bollywood action films and Korean revenge films; for me, not as versed in those films, an easy reference is THE RAID. So if you like that brand of action, you would love MONKEY MAN.
What I especially loved is that after the first act the action levels out, which is great because when it is incessant (as I found JOHN WICK 4), it's mind-numbing, so with act two, you get breathing room and a deeper dive into the story and it gives more depth to the film.

I’m practicing dying white cotton (mostly yarn but some clothing items) with herbs and roots and such.
It makes me feel like a kid mixing potions outside with whatever I find in a bucket.
With this one (one of my husband’s white undershirts) I attempted a tie dye effect with iron water I made with rusty nails.
This shirt has been washed normally with detergent and dried. I’ve only been doing this 4-5 weeks so I’m still learning.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So far I’m doing the best with dying things yellow.
Knowing me I will obsess over it for a little while longer then drop it and move onto something else. ♥️

I had to call poison control because I was an idiot, and was dying fabric while drunk and splashed into my eye.
I'm fine, the dude on the other line was super cool about it too. "Nah man, if your eyes don't burn you're gonna be fine"
And I was.
But anyways, wear your safety equipment. If you are going to shit on me for not, buy me all nitrile reusable PPE, and I'll pop on it. But I can't even find the shit, nevermind afford it.

Season 3 of game of thrones is sooo boring like i get why people go so crazy for jaime and brienne bc they were the most fun part. From robb’s wedding you just know he lost the war and his life and it just bides so much time before that actually happens where nothingggggg happens. Dead Man Walking can be a fun story telling device and yet it is so completely noncompelling here. The tyrells coming to king’s landing and cersei losing her mind is at least a plot with developing characters and relationships. Tyrion/shae/sansa is fun to a certain extent but i can’t enjoy it fully bc my brain is constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop re: shae. White walkers are boring i continue to not care about zombies, jon is stupid, ygritte is hot. The hound begrudgingly protecting the stark girls is always entertaining. Stannis plotline is fine as in the characters are interesting even if theyre not doing anything interesting. Dany white savioring her way through the free cities is so fucking stupid. Blondie is breaking the chains for all the savages who couldn’t do it without her fuck you to the writers and every step of production that really went for this, but i guess in-universe fine whatever cast yourself as the people’s princess. Really almost hit post before i remembered the dude from misfits hanging out with alfie allen, the gaslighting was interesting but the other torture was boring. Now i’m remembering even more plots and characters but i guess i won’t include them bc if i hadn’t thought of them already they must not have been that important or leave much of an impression

My pokeberry dye project is dry!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Above is the finished product- on the left is some white merino dyed with the juice of the berries, and on the left is some greyish merino (old faded natural dye project) over dyed with the skins and seeds.
More images and information on the process under the cut:
What I did:
- Pick pokeberries. Some were plump and ripe, others were more like raisins. They were all pretty full of pigment though.
- Mash berries with gloved hands. Strain the juice out (I used a cheesecloth) into one container and place the skins and seeds in another.
- Add 1 part distilled white vinegar to one part berry juice. For the skins and seeds, I poured the vinegar over them until they were just covered and let them soak overnight at room temperature.
- Strain out the seeds and skins from the vinegar- when I did this, the skins were translucent as all the pigment had gone into the vinegar.
- Add to mordanted wool. I used alum at 12% the weight of the wool, heated up to steaming without boiling and held there for a couple hours before cutting the heat and letting cool overnight. My wool was unevenly mordanted, which I think is partly why it dyed unevenly.
Tumblr media
- Heat the dye bath over low heat until it’s steaming but not boiling. Once it got hot, I turned the heat off and covered with a lid to let it cool slowly overnight.
- Remove from the dye bath and lay out in a tray for an hour or so. Apparently this is to oxidize the dye, though I saw no significant change in color.
Tumblr media
- Rinse and dry
Tumblr media
I’m very happy with how this came out! I do wish I’d strained with more layers of cheesecloth since I still had some small bits that have settled into my wool, but they should fall out when I spin. I think my wool dyed unevenly due to a combination of uneven mordanting and being compressed into a braid.
Bonus: why you need gloves… this was after sticking my hand in to press the wool down into the dye bath. It took several washes to mostly fade 🤠
Tumblr media
EXTRA bonus: some wool I dyed with pokeberries two years ago!

YOU’LL BE THE LAST TO KNOW ও ITADORI YUUJI
Tumblr media
⠀ warnings: hurt/no comfort
itadori yuuji is meant for great things.
he has the smile of the sun and patience of a saint. he wipes away your tears with the look of someone who is physically hurt by the things that hurt you. he kisses the corner of your lips to convey to you that he loves you with all he is. he presses his hand to the small of your back so you always know that he’s there, that you’re never alone.
he loves you with everything he is, and it scares you.
you don’t think you deserve it. you can barely perform jujutsu at anything higher than a grade three sorcerer can. itadori performs as well as and is on his way to being better than grade one sorcerer—hell, he could be a special grade before this whole ordeal is said and done.
idiotically stupid and loyal to a fault, you know that he’s never had an evil bone in his body. he wipes away your worries with the promise of a life greater than jujutsu, kisses against your skin the image of a family.
you’re scared, though.
you feel anxiety crawling down your throat whenever he leaves on a mission you aren’t strong enough for. you let the feeling of uselessness wash over you every time he presses a final kiss against your forehead, fear shaking your bones that that’ll be the last one.
but itadori is the protagonist.
he is meant to be bigger, do better, and be the one to stop things.
when you beg him to stay behind, to just stay with you and let someone else do the job you know only he can do, he just shakes his head sadly. he lets his hand slip from yours and gives you time to cope with the fact that he might not always be there.
“if it’s not me,” he’d say, at the edge of your doorway, “then there’s no one else.”
“there’s me.” you’d beg back, hands clutched to your chest as you can feel the anguish of him leaving. “just stay with me.”
and he doesn’t say anything. you know why.
it’s never enough to make him stay.
itadori yuuji is meant for greater things.
it’s what everyone says when you ask others about him. kugisaki says that he’s held back by the meaningless relationships and friendships he’s had at jujutsu high. you’re not sure if it’s a slight at you, but you ignore it. megumi highlights his ever evolving skills and martial prowess. says that he’ll surpass even the greatest jujutsu high alum at the rate he’s learning and that he’s going to be a name everyone knows.
you think you’re holding him back.
because jujutsu high is being attacked and you know he won’t stop asking people where you are. he’s probably looking for you at this very moment, truthfully, while trying to fend of a group of humans using jujutsu negatively.
but you don’t want to stand in his way.
you love him so dearly, know him so well, that you know he’ll drop anything and everything he’s doing to help you. you couldn’t even fight off more than a handful of curses on your own, there’s no way you can call itadori to be your prince in shining armor.
he’s probably saving people who are worthy of it.
hand pressed against your abdomen, you feel the blood spill past your fingers and if you weren’t already on the floor from the blood-loss, you think you’d end up there from spilling your guts.
it might seem like you detest him, you realize later on. the self deprecating thoughts and disdainful comments to stay behind, but it’s because you always imagined he would be the one to die first. you suppose it’s cruel irony that it would be you, wouldn’t it?
you die holding onto your matching locket. the missing couplet was hung loosely around itadori’s own neck on a gold chain.
he finds you later.
the wails are enough to make kugisaki need to step outside. megumi can hardly handle stand to watch the sigh of him cradling your body.
he wishes more than anything he could’ve told you he loves you one last time.

my mother has asked me to ask “that weaver friend of yours” lol — do you have experience dyeing linen? what does the process look like for natural vs synthetic dyes?
happy to be that weaver friend of yours 🥰❤️ dyeing linen is basically the same as dyeing cotton or any other cellulose fiber, so any synthetic dye that works for cotton will also work for linen. a professional grade fiber reactive dye like procion mx or dharma's procion (here) dyes cellulose fiber without heat, and the process is quick and painless. it just involves a large bucket, water, the dye powder and the cloth you wish to dye. i have little experience with rit dye so i'm not sure if you'd need heat for that, but procion dye is higher quality, comes in a lot more colours than rit, and a 2oz container is like $2 usd and goes a long way
the natural dye process for linen takes a lot longer than the procion dye process and requires several steps. cellulose fibers really don't like to take dyes so you basically have to do a bunch of alchemy to convince it to do what you want (compared to protein fibers like wool and silk which love dyes and only need some gentle nudges)
naturally dyeing linen depends on the dye you'd wish to use, but the process is essentially: scouring, mordanting, and dyeing. it's really important that you scour linen especially because it contains a lot of pectins that prevent dye from penetrating the fiber, so a harsh scouring is best (ie. washing it with hot water and ph neutral soap, even to the point of boiling the cloth. linen can take a lot of heat and is better for it, cotton is more sensitive) you'll probably have to do this before dyeing it with the synthetic dye too for best results
most natural dyes require that you mordant the cloth before dyeing. some dyes don't require a mordant (indigo is the big one, but if you're working with onion skins or other materials that contain tannins this is also true. however mordanting the cloth before dyeing with tannins or even mordanting with tannins is still recommended for better colour performance long-term unless you're working with indigo in which case using a mordant can actually cause problems) but if you're unsure, assume that you need to apply a mordant. you essentially have to simmer the cloth in a hot pot with either a material that contains tannins (tannic acid), a natural bio-accumulator of aluminum (symplocos), or use a metal salt (alum acetate is best for cellulose, but iron and copper salts can also be used. the metal salts route requires more safety precautions esp if you use copper salt, you can't dump that down the drain) your choice of mordant impacts the final colour with different mordants shifting the chemical reaction that happens in the cloth when you dye it
with cotton and linen, after you use the mordant you need to use either a chalk or wheat bran bath to remove excess mordant from the cloth, esp if you use alum acetate, otherwise it can leave a whitish cast over the cloth and also impede dyeing lol. wheat bran baths tend to cause a warmer tone to the final dyed cloth, chalk baths cause a cooler tone. i only use wheat bran baths bc i prefer the warmth and i get the bran cheaply at my local punjabi grocer
only then can you dye the cloth, again unless you're working with a dye like coffee or tea or onion skins OR indigo. linen really doesn't like to take natural dyes unless you do all the above steps, it's stubborn. the dye process itself depends on what dye you use and you can do stuff like solar dyeing if you don't want to simmer it in a pot on a stove. if you plan to go the natural dye route lmk and i can send you some scans of a book i have that contains precise instructions for preparing linen for dyeing

New skill unlocked: dyeing with onions
Shout out to @milkweedman, the posts you always make an share about your dyeing efforts make it feel way less daunting starting! You're a star and I wouldn't have done this without your blog posts.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Brown onion skins, so many skins tbh. I boiled them for a 2-3 hours, and left them to cool in the water. Made such a rich red coloured water!
Alum mordant for the merino, was actually super easy. I did 15-20% of the weight of the fleece, worked a charm.
Tumblr media
The onion skins did not go translucent, so after all the dyeing I chucked them back in the exhaust pot and left them to simmer some more.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The yellow was so immediately bright and vibrant on the wool. I cooked it for an hour and left it to sit for several more. But the water was staining my fingers, which I didn't expect!
And it came out so wonderful and rich and saffron yellow!
Going to strain and decant rhe leftovers for use another day, and avocado pits are up next!

Naturally dyed handspun yarn + some fibre
(Onion skin + iron exhaust, onion skin + alum + iron, onion skin + alum, St John’s wort + alum, madder exhaust + alum, madder + alum)
(Walnut + alum + iron, elderberries + alum)
The last few days I’ve been frantically dyeing yarn for Christmas. I’m very happy with the colours from most of them!
The walnut and St John’s wort were somewhat disappointing. I was expecting stronger colours on both. I’ll probably overdye the St John’s wort and blend the walnut in with the black sheltland fibre I keep meaning to spin. I’m equally unhappy with the elderberries but it was always a long shot due to the fugitive nature of the colour!

Congratulations on 500! I wanted to request number 31 of the hurt/comfort prompt! "Don't look at them, look at me." with Matt Murdock and fem!reader?
31: “don’t look at them, look at me.”
-----
The gala was packed. Rich men and their perfect wives were everywhere across the floor, their gaze intimidating as you walked through the entryway with Matt holding onto your arm. You immediately snag two flutes full of champagne from a passing server and hand one to him, sipping half of yours in one go.
“Foggy and Karen should be here soon, I’m surprised we beat them here.” He laughs and you huff out a chuckle, far too nervous to voice one out.
“You okay?”
“Peachy.” You can’t help but look at all the women ogling your boyfriend. You hold your clutch tighter, narrowly missing another woman being wooed by someone who clearly wasn’t her husband. Her silky dress hugged her curves just so, and her hair and makeup was done professionally, just melting into her skin perfectly.
“Murdock, I haven’t seen you since Columbia!” What you’re guessing is an old alum swoops your boyfriend away and suddenly you’re left alone feeling desperately anxious, pulling at your dress that now felt drab. Luckily for you, Foggy and Karen walk through the doors a few minutes after Matt’s been whisked away, but your stomach sinks when you realize how beautiful Karen looks. Marci was dressed to the nines, her body accentuated by a figure hugging dress.
Matt finally makes his way back to the group, immediately finding you and sending a smile your way. He holds your hand, instead of holding your arm, and gives you a comforting squeeze.
“Your heart rate is elevated. I don’t think you’re just fine, sweetheart.” He grabs your hands and pulls you into a secluded corner, hidden behind some large potted plants.
“Talk to me.”
“It’s just- god, they’re so perfect! All of the women here, they’re so pretty and I’m me and now I feel subpar.”
“Well I think you look fine-”
“This isn’t a laughing matter, Matt. I know you don’t care how I look, but they’re all staring.” You turn your head to look towards the ballroom floor, watching their slim figures skirt around one another.
“Hey, don’t look at them, look at me. You’re perfect, half these people in here are rich people who defend assholes anyways. You’re everything they couldn’t be, kind, caring, I mean, you put up with me for crying out loud. That’s not easy. You’re doing amazing and if you want to leave, I’m okay with that. But I promise those women are not better than you in any way. You’re everything I want.” He pecks your cheek.
“Are you ready to head back out, or do you want to leave?”
“Let’s stay.”
“Okay, it’s up to you when you want us to leave, okay?”
“Thank you, Matty.”
“Anytime, angel.”

some reckless driving au thoughts to introduce you all to a couple that's been in my mind since october nonstop (the first part is very close to being done. and its long folks!)
it's jack fell first AND jack fell harder and you know what? that's how it should be
they're young. and stupid. so keep that in mind lol
i really really highly encourage everyone to listen to 'reckless driving' by lizzy mcalpine and ben kessler to prepare. this whole story spanned from that song and that song only. probably why it was my top 5 most listened to last year
i had my friend read a bit of it and she said it was giving very much "summer romance with sticky ice-cream hands, sunkissed skin and a bubble that is going to pop and explode too quickly" so take that as you will
this is a thesis for another time but i've always thought of jack as someone who has more to him than meets the eye. the little personality we do get from him is so interesting and painfully boyish and reminds me of the guys i grew up with (i'm only a few months older than jack) and i'd like to think amelie balances that in a realistic way (if you've read my stuff, im all about the realism)
a lot of cameos from current guys on the michigan hockey team as well as alum to add some flavor
if anyone wants to chat about them, feel free!!! especially as i wrap up the first part <3<3<3 thanks for the love so far

Please tell me 7 fun facts about jellyfish
100% true facts about jellies
(some of which you may or may want to double check on your own)
1 i love them
2 you can eat them!(not all of them) you must wash them as theyre processed with allum to keep their crunch, alum is also in some deodorants as an antiperspirant- you should also wash them because if you dont they taste like sea water- other than that they dont have much taste, Ive seen it described as similar to bell pepper on account of the crunch- people eat them for texture not flavor really, but theyre very high in protein and collegen, so if you are allergic to chicken or pork (or dont want to eat them) and have bad joints consider eating jellyfish, or finding a supplement that derives it from jellyfish, collgen is also good for skin elasticity
3 theyre like 95% water, the other 5% is the aforementioned protein(s) and minerals and such
4 they dont have brains, at least not in the same way we do, they have a nervous system, one study suggests they can learn [to not bump into walls colored to look like a far away trees] although that was done in just one type of box jellyfish, so more research should be done, as per usual with nearly every scientific study to ever be done
5 jellyfish lifecycles are soo fucked up/pos one is literally called the immortal jellyfish because theoretically they can just keep going from medusa(the “adult” jellyfish) to polyp (“baby”/ baby creater) infinity times. polyps can ‘walk’ along the sea floor and leave little polyp lumps thatll make new polyps, every polyp can make a bunch of baby jellyfish
6 this is me being mysterious in my room
Tumblr media
7 this is me when i have friends
Tumblr media
thanks!

The dyed ryå lambs fleece ! Left is alum mordanted, right is a homemade copper mordant, both using yellow onion skin as the dye. Am also so happy with the yarn, although I have zero idea what to do with 100 yards of laceweight singles.
Im not sure how a stripey sock yarn with these two colors would look so it might end up being two pairs, one primarily yellow with orange heel and toe and vice versa. We shall see
