pairing: hawks x reader

summary: after a long day of hero work keigo finds himself on your roof. again.

a/n: hello again everyone it is i, hazel, back at it again with More Hawks Content. i’ve had this one done for a while and genuinely forgot about it lmao but istg next time i will write about a different character. anyway enjoy!!

everything feels….weird, without his wings. logically he knows that the feathers will grow back, but two days is a long time to be grounded for someone like keigo, so used to taking to the skies. he feels almost naked without the wings at his back, once beautiful and grand and now reduced to nothing but lesser covert feathers for the foreseeable future. his hands sank deeper into his pockets as he hunched further, trying to compensate for the lack of weight at his back as he made his way through the empty streets. the day was long, even for a hero like him, and between the fight with the nomus that left him grounded to the tense words he’d shared with dabi moments ago, he was just about ready to speed home and call it quits. though he couldn’t help the feeling of wrongness that was eating at him even still, annoyance rising in him as he tried to place exactly what it was making him feel this off. a gloved hand rose up to rest on his face, finger tapping on his chin in concentration as he sank deeper into thought. all in all, despite the overall frankly terrible atmosphere of the day, objectively speaking, things could have gone worse. way worse. he’d even managed to save all those people, scraping through the afternoon with a grand total of zero casualties, and even the mild to severe annoyance he’s feeling over a spontaneous transformation to flightless bird will dissipate in a day or two, so what could it be that’s got him all twisted up thinking about it?

oh. right. you.

his feet came to a stop almost on their own, and as he craned his head upwards he couldn’t help the small twitch of his lips into a smile as he came face to face with not his own high rise, but your apartment complex. a tad bit run down, smack dab in the middle of his patrol zone, and oh so familiar. see, pretty much every night for the past four (five? he’d almost lost track) months he’d found himself perched on the roof of this very building, takeout from the restaurant across the street in hand (what could he say? he was a busy guy and their fried chicken was to DIE for) taking a quick break to scarf down some dinner before he took to the skies again. it was convenient, centrally located, and, well, he’d be lying if he said it didn’t also come with good company. it had seemed he wasn’t the only one fond of spending his nights up on that rooftop, as nearly every time he’d found his way up there in recent history he’d been met by you, busying yourself with one thing or another, and over the time you’d shared together he’d actually become quite fond of you and the snippets of (near) normalcy you provided. after all, with such a chaotic schedule like his, breaks were few and far between, and it was nice to be able to sit and just be for a while.

boots touched down on the roof of the ratty apartment building, and the flapping of wings slowly died down, the rustling of feathers and clothing slowly stilling as the whipping wind dissipated. his whistling cut clean through the still night, and he couldn’t help but let the chuckle escape him as he heard a startled noise come from the center of the shoddy rooftop garden. the scratching of a chair on cement echoed as you padded out into his field of view.

in slight disarray (as always) you made your way over to him, a contented grin on your face and cradling your laptop to your chest. he raised his hand into a two fingered salute, hopping off the ledge of the rooftop to meet you in your advance.

“you’re a bit late today,” you giggled as you gratefully accepted the drink he’d held out to you, setting your laptop down so you could take a seat next to him. your gaze followed him as he shuffled his meal around in his lap, and you watched as he chuckled and shook his head, directing his gaze up towards you.

“sorry bout that, kid. all the villains in town ganged up and decided i’d be eating a late dinner today.” he gave himself a moment to stretch his tired wings, subconsciously curling them around the two of you as you sat, you with your legs dangling over the side of the building and he with his legs crossed, dinner in his lap. he’d rarely admit it, but the downside of all his speed was that quiet moments like these, and time to just take care of himself, came few and far between, which only led him to cherish the minutes you’d spent together even more.

he hadn’t meant to make an unlikely friend when he’d first landed on your building those months ago; honestly, he’d just wanted five minutes to eat his chicken in peace. but he was so so tired and even though when he’d landed he’d found you star gazing, he’d decided it wasn’t damned worth it to find a new building to park himself and scarf down his dinner. this’d have to do. but you were cute and entertaining and non intrusive and he couldn’t help but leave with a bit of a light feeling in his chest, and subconsciously or not when he found his boots landing on your roof the next day, and the day after that, he never pulled himself away. he could let himself have this, fifteen minutes a day of peace.

“you alright?” you questioned, and he blinked out of his thoughts to meet your gaze, brows slightly furrowed and face pulled into a concerned expression. he chuckled with a nod, hand rubbing over his neck as he pushed his visor up and off his golden eyes, looking out over the city before his gaze flitted back to you.

“course. just thinkin, is all.” he gestures between the two of you, a small smile growing wider on his face. “just happy to have this.” he buried his face in the collar of his coat, light blush rising on his tanned cheeks as your delighted laugh rang clear in the night air. you bumped your shoulder against his, head tipping back to take in the night sky as your own smile cut wide and bright across your face.

“i’m happy to have this too.”

of course this was what was eating at him. he’d been so busy today, wrapped up in the hectic nature of his lifestyle that he hadn’t had a minute to his pause, and how could he take a break if it wasn’t here, right? he’d conditioned himself to associate the ratty brick building before his eyes with comfort and peace, and while he didn’t quite have time to unpack all of that he also didn’t have the patience to leave without getting what he came for, despite every bone in his body begging for a well-deserved nap. he pushed up on his feet, instinctually trying to propel himself into flight before he came crashing back down to reality. ah, right. flightless bird, for at least two days. how could he forget?

his glance strayed to the door, and then to the call box on the door, and in an instant, it dawned on him that he didn’t actually know what unit you resided in. he cracked his knuckles once, twice, pondering how to combat this predicament before his gaze landed on salvation, otherwise known as the fire escape.

with a running start he launched himself up to grab the ladder of the fire escape, burning muscles screaming in protest as he hauled himself up and onto the first level, metal clanking and disturbing the quiet evening atmosphere. with a huff he straightened himself out, straightening his ruffled clothing and beginning to climb the stairs before he heard a gasp, and moments later your worried face was peeking over the side of the building.

“hawks?” you cried, panic laced in your tone, and keigo perked up at your call, tired smile beginning to stretch over his face before it fell as he took in your panicked appearance.

“sorry i’m late, busy day today,” he sighed, and you scoffed, ripping a hand through your already disheveled hair, taking in his own appearance (and most notably, lack of wings.) a shaky sigh left your lips, and you quirked your head to the side as you leaned farther forward the edge.

“hawks, why are you on my fire escape?”

“couldn’t exactly fly up today, now could i?” he gestured to his empty back, and as he reached the final level of the fire escape you weakly held out your hand to help pull him up onto the roof, he waved it away, using the last of the energy in his fatigued body to launch himself to a position where he could finish his climb, hauling himself over the ledge and onto the hard cement of the rooftop. he leaned up against the ledge, and you kneeled down in front of him, hand ghosting up to land over his before hesitantly pulling away. you looked a wreck, eyes faintly rimmed in red and hair disheveled, a side effect of the frustrated raking of it away from your face, and the corner of his lip twitched upward as he drank you in. though his muscles were screaming and every part of him was tired, hauling himself here tonight was more than worth it.

“i saw what happened today, on the news. good job,” you weakly smiled, eyes darting around before finally landing on his. “i didn’t think you’d swing by today, given everything.”

“and yet here i am.”

“and yet here you are,” you sighed, finally allowing yourself to rest a hand on his upper arm. “you should be resting, not here. today was rough.”

“i am resting. here, right now. with you. well, for as long as you’ll have me, and then i’ll trudge my way home. or maybe i’ll call a cab, haven’t taken one of tho-” he began to ramble, before you cut him off.

“stay over.” his eyes widened slightly, and he fought the urge to tear his eyes away and tuck his face into his coat to hide from the gentle resolve in your gaze.

“pardon? sorry kid, don’t think i heard that quite right.”

“i said stay over. you’re tired, i was...worried, and you already went to the trouble of dragging yourself over here anyway. so stay over, and i’ll take care of you, and you can take off again tomorrow morning.” silence fell over the two of you as he mulled over your proposal, and if he noticed his heartbeat picking up at the prospect of staying the night he’d die before admitting it.

“well, when you put it like that, how could i refuse?” you sighed, shaking your head before outstretching your hand, hauling him up and digging through your pockets for your keys. your hand tightened around his and he went to pull away, and he tried to fight the grin splitting over his features as he laced his gloved fingers with yours. pulling him down a couple flights of steps, making sure the hallways were empty (you’d die before you had to explain what you were doing dragging number 2 pro hero hawks through the hallways of your complex this late at night) before pulling him into your tiny apartment. it was nothing to write home about (and honestly, secretly, you were a little embarrassed now that you had hawks standing inside your tiny, messy apartment. but he was tired, and so were you, so you could be embarrassed tomorrow.)

“i’ll get you set up,” you said, disappearing into the bedroom and giving him time to take in the (slightly) chaotic surroundings. despite the chaos, he couldn’t deny that it was wholly you, and he couldn’t help the glee bubbling up in his stomach as he took in the surroundings. you emerged a few moments later, blankets and pillow in hand, and that warm feeling spreading through his body only got warmer as he watched you set the couch up for him.

“if you need anything let me know,” you smiled, hand resting gently on his arm. he met your gaze with a grin, and as he settled into his makeshift bed for the evening he could feel your gaze on him from the doorway of your bedroom for a few moments, but when he cracked one eye open to look at you you had already disappeared, shutting the door gently behind you.

he settled back onto the couch, tucking himself into the comfort the space around him provided. and, if a few hours later, his sleep-addled mind felt a hand card through his hair once or twice, his blanket get readjusted, and a soft kiss pressed to his forehead, well, he’d just have to chalk it up to a dream.

Hearing that there are people who've never seen pigeons before took me tf out because I thought they were just. Common everywhere????? And then you say you rarely see them but Singapore has a bunch and. Is Singapore just where all the pigeons went figfyif istg the only bird I see more than pigeons here are mynas. Anyway yes pigeons are ridiculously lazy here there's this one area where I stay where pigeons congregate for literally no reason and they will not move unless someone literally walks into the group it's ridiculous. On the bright side it makes birdwatching pigeons easy. There are a few cool doves around and one or two neat little patterned pigeons.

heyyo, milkyway!! and kjbJKJKJGKSD ALL THE PIGEONS IN THE PHILIPPINES WENT TO SINGAPORE!!!!

tbh i dont know why there arent too many pigeons here, ur right, theyre very common Everywhere. the most common bird you'll see here is the eurasian tree sparrow, the bird in my profile picture! i love them so much, theyre so tiny and annoying and i love to see them wiggle in the dirt for a dust bath. im lucky tho that there are nearby forested areas and bc of that i get to see common colorful birds as well. in our garden, we often have olive backed sunbirds visiting!!!! always in pairs, too!! theyre married <3

i am so glad pigeons are lazy in different places of the world. i assumed they were lazy in singapore just because they looked Very Well Fed, A Little Bit Too Well Fed TBH, but maybe it's a personality thing in pigeons. after all, in the urban ecosystem, nothing is eating them so they dont need to feel fear. theres no danger. birdwatching pigeons would be so frigging easy but omfg, what r u gonna watch them DO?? theyre just gonna

stand there LMAO

DOVES R PRETTY!!! and yessss cool pigeon patterns are also cool, i like to think thats like, the shiny variant ala pokemon. rare sighting.

the hardest bird ive ever birdwatched was a pair of migrating peregrine falcons. a pair (or more) would always migrate to the forest on my college campus yearly. theyd nest in the cellphone signal tower and when u got near that tower, the grass would be littered with the bones of the prey theyve eaten. super hard to birdwatch cuz like, peregrine falcons?

theyre the animal that can achieve the fastest speed in the entire animal kingdom

their hunting style is to fly up real high and then DIVE, catching smaller birds completely unaware

and they can reach up to 200+ miles per hour

TRYNA SEE THAT THRU BINOCULARS IS HARD AS HELL, but it's glorious to watch without the binoculars. just this comet of an animal piercing through the sky

man.....I RLLY MISS BIRDWATCHING.....

howl’s moving castle is my favorite studio ghibli movie and the only solid reasoning i really have is because i am, a simp.

(im kidding its a beautiful movie)

and so today i will be rating this beautiful man, the blueprint for my longhaired guy with earrings type, on what i’d like to call:

where i tell you my rankings of the different versions of howl, let’s start!

#12 slimy howl

slimy howl is on the bottom of my list because LORD i cannot imagine touching him like that. WHY DOES IT LOOK LIKE THAT?? if this is some sort of version of menstrual cramps to him i just don’t think i could wake up and say good morning sweetie just for him to wake me up with a slimy kiss. sorry.

#11 monster howl

this is the least howl form of howl and i simply do not like it. it represents his humanity being stripped away and shows him as his worst form, the beast that he must turn to the greater his power becomes. he’s the least himself in this form and that’s not good >:( scary to look at but higher ranked than slimy howl because at least his feathers are soft

#10 howl shoyo from haikyuu (omg hes #10 too i didnt even plan that)

karasuno’s best decoy’s entire appearance was only a big mental breakdown over his hair! he’s not ugly or anything but he’s very unhappy in this scene and i get it cuz one time i cut my bangs too short and looked like goshiki from haikyuu mixed with atsushi’s bangs but not cute and i started crying so i understand. unhappy howl is defo not my favorite howl (but he scores higher than slimy and monster because he is at least a human here)

#9 bird centaur howl

THIS MAN LOOKS LIKE HE WAS WEARING A SKIN TIGHT BIRD MASCOT COSTUME AND TOOK OFF THE HEAD. WHY DOES HE LOOK LIKE THAT. THE WORST POSSIBLE LOOK FOR ANY HALF HUMAN HALF ANIMAL CREATURE. ITS LIKE YOU SHUFFLED SOME KIND OF SUPERHERO GENERATOR AND GOT THE MOST UNNATURAL LOOKING ONE. HE LOOKS ANGRY.

#8 werebird howl

oh absolutely NOT. can you IMAGINE having to see the fucking feather things POP OUT OF HIS FACE????? oh good god help me. higher on the list because he looks kinda cool (maybe because it looks like facial hair?)

#7 surprise its howl!

LOOK AT HIM IN HIS LITTLE HAT. he’s all “ayo i gotchu follow my ring its like a little gps oh dont worry about wifi i have data”. he looks like those little nutcracker toys. only complaints is that green is not his color and he looks like a figure of authority and i dont really like figures of authority. still looks really dorky and cute tho! <3

#6 3/4 bird howl

i know what you may be thinking, “what the fuck.” and i understand. why is a bird howl so high on the list? but look at him! he’s not just a bird anymore. this is the thing that represent his loss of humanity, but now he uses that form to protect sophie, which is very empowering if you ask me! for someone who didn’t care about his heart he’s sure got a big one :> look at his little smile!

#5 injured little birdie howl

i know i just talked about his humanity and shit but he. looks. so. sexy. here. i dont wanna fuck a bird, okay. maybe its the jawline. maybe its the way his guard is down. maybe its the vulnerability in his face. maybe i need a therapist. it’s like...”im fighting to be human! its just so difficult....pls take care of me..” i dont know. the earring ties it all together. like he’s injured. and he’s a bird. but like, classy.

#4 haku from spirited away

he’s so cute!!! he wanted to save a shooting star!!! he just didn’t know what would happen okay >:0 he is still so tiny and the little ribbon is so cute he looks like a little villager from animal crossing but guess what he’s actually a wizard! how cool is that!

#3 idol howl

i say idol because howl kind of reminds me of a kpop idol here??? i think it’s cuz he looks very pretty. and maybe his blonde hair is like when kpop idols dye their hair different colors and youre like oh wow that looks nice??? :0 classic howl look, probably the first image people think of when remembering his face! great fashion sense, the shirt, the necklace, his little jacket, the EARRINGS! a very aesthetically pleasing howl. he wouldn’t just take you to a movie on your first date he’d bring you into one <3 the walking in the sky scene is a classic! its beautiful!!! slowdancing with this howl is the dream. (only at #3 because of personal preference, i dont usually simp for blonde characters for some reason) also his character development hasnt happened yet so he’s still pretty selfish (but he’s also still pretty pretty)

#2 princess howl

LISTEN. THIS IS AFTER HIS LITTLE HAIR DYE MENTAL BREAKDOWN. BUT HE IS SO. PRETTY. i cannot EXPLAIN how pretty he is here. the length of his hair is so perfect. and it’s BLACK? oh god. this is such a close #2. he is so pretty. i actually think this look is his prettiest. im sorry i have no more funny commentary because hes actually so pretty. he’s #2 only because. he was acting so spoiled. I MEAN NOT REALLY. he’s just so dramatic but who could say no to THAT?? his earrings..his hair..his EYELASHES? no one looks this good lying down. let me spoil u my baby <333

#1 husband howl!!!!!!!!!

this is a man in love. look at him smile. you could just fall for him on the spot. this man can cook! he is so excited to show u the house he made with his magic!! and he gets you your own FLOWER GARDEN????? did you know flowers have a language i bet all of them are like “eternal love” “endless happiness” or something- well no he’s a wizard i bet all the flowers smell like happiness and sunshine. his shirt tucked in? AWOOGA! god he looks so good in those pants. he is so romantic. he is so genuinely happy. and he doesn’t even realize he’s in love with you!! he just wants you to smile. all the other howls i’d go yes i’ll do the cooking yes i’ll do the cleaning but THIS HOWL? “oh sweetie youre not feeling well? let me cook something for you to heal up, no don’t move, stay right there and rest” this howl is so endlessly cute and perfect and romantic and happy. if there’s something to be learned is that u may be pretty u may be sexy but u look the best when ur happy. oh my god he looks like he smells good too.

Up In The Skies

Hellooooo today is day 21!

A whole three weeks? Wow. Thank you all for taking the time to read these so far. I hope you’ve all enjoyed.

Anyway, today I give you some non-platonic Hyrule and Sky. If you’re new here, I write Zelda-themed (or LU-themed) one shots. I do take requests and more information is left at the base of this post.

Also disclaimer: Sun is depicted very differently in this compared to canon.

“Welcome to my Hyrule!” Sky spun in a circle as he recognised the Hyrule Sun and him had been putting together.

“You live on land?” Wind was extremely surprised. He had a good reason to be as well.

“Isn’t your title ‘hero of the skies’?” Legend asked with a chuckle.

Sky looked slightly to the floor. “That was over year ago. I live here now with Sun.” Hyrule could easily hear the saddened tone in the hero’s voice as he tried to look anywhere but up. It didn’t seem like anyone else noticed though.

“Anyway,” Sky looked to everyone, cheery once more, “I should show you all around!” He took Hyrule and Wind - who were both closest to him - by the hand.

Hyrule.exe has stopped working

The brunette boy felt his brain turn to mush as his face heated up slightly.

“Sky’s holding my hand! Sky’s holding my hand! SKY IS HOLDING MY FUCKING HAND!” His thoughts screamed.

Yeah, he was broken.

Before he knew it, the group was walking through the town as Sky explained everything.

Hyrule wasn’t listening to the words, just the tone. When Sky was calm, it was nice. When he was happy, it was absolute music to his ears. But, when the boy was sad, Hyrule could feel his pain and squeezed his hand every time.

“So, what are you and Sun?” Warriors asked. Hyrule payed a lot of attention to the conversation. Sky burst out in laughter. “Sun is my best friend, basically a sister to me.” Suddenly, another voice appeared.

“BESTIE!”

And Sky was pulled from Hyrule’s grip.

“Oooh, are these the boys you talk about? Which one is he?” A girl - who was assumed to be Sun - gave Sky a look that said ‘tell-me-or-I-will-eat-your-family’. Scary.

“Ummm…” Sky trailed off and shot Hyrule a glance. “It doesn’t matter.” Unfortunately, Sun noticed the glance and snapped her head to Hyrule.

Then screamed.

“I approve!” She yelled before leaving. Sky pinched the bridge of his nose with a sigh. “My best friend, everyone.” He said disappointedly, waving a hand in the direction Sun ran in.

“What just happened?” Wild asked, earning shrugs from all over the group. Sky looked to Hyrule before looking above him. “You guys should get to bed, there’s enough space at my place.” Sky grabbed Hyrule’s hand once more as the group walked to the boy’s house.

“Okay the seven of you can get comfy- don’t touch that.” He said casually as Wind reached for an expensive looking bow (sacred bow).

“Seven?” Time questioned. “Yeah, I’m stealing ‘Rule for a few hours.” Sky squeezed the boy’s hand. “Ew, couples.” Wind pretended to gag as he pushed the pair out the door. “Have fun!” He yelled. “I’ll make sure Wild doesn’t burn your house down!” A loud ‘hey’ came from inside the house, causing Hyrule to chuckle lightly.

The pair walked for a bit and Hyrule could feel himself - and see Sky - getting sleepy. “We can go back if you want.” He suggested. Sky shook his head. “I want to show you this first.” Sky then called out and a giant red bird came down.

“This is my loftwing. They will take us where I want to take you.” Sky lifted Hyrule onto the loftwing, following soon after.

“Ready?” Sky asked. Hyrule gave a silent nod and held Sky’s hands as they sat on the reigns.

Suddenly, the pair was in the sky, yelling happily as they went into the air. “This is so fun!” Hyrule yelled, causing Sky to chuckle. “Well we’re gonna get off soon.” Sky said, guiding the loftwing downwards slightly.

(this place isn’t actually in the game)

They landed on a small piece of land that was elevated above the clouds.

It had a small lake on it with a tiny tree. There was also a small lantern-like object on a wooden post.

“This is where I wanted to take you.” Sky hopped off the loftwing, letting Hyrule off after.

“You probably want to know what Sun was talking about?”

Hyrule nodded. Sky sighed a little as he smiled. “Thought so.” He laughed.

“Well she meant ‘he’ as in ‘who’s the one you like?’” Sky explained. Hyrule let his hopes raise a little.

Maybe… He desperately wished so. It can’t be though… He knew.

“So you want my advice? I don’t have experience with guys Sky but, knowing you, you probably like Warriors or some shit I don’t know.” Hyrule was a little frustrated. “What? No! Dear Hylia, you’re an idiot.” Sky said.

“What?” Hyrule asked quietly. Was it Twilight?

“You.” Sky said the one word and Hyrule felt helpless.

Let the kid process.

“SKY like the SKY likes ME???”

Yeah, Hyrule isn’t really working.

Then everything loaded in his brain and Sky was tackled into the water.

“You’re fucking amazing and I love you!” Hyrule said, full of happiness.

Then again…

Sky always made him smile.

Shadowriders! im definitely keeping them as a longer-running/recurring nuisance while the team is in its early stages of development! they’ve got some untapped plot potential imo, so i’m trying to explore ‘em from a few angles to see what i like!

Fauna Faust! (yes i know she’s died like, pre52, and obviously in Daughter of Darkness too but like hear me out) She’s next gen, her brother is supposed to be a Good Guy™, her dad’s a Recognizable Name. also i’m a sucker for same gen villains (is she in the same gen as them actually? eh fuck it, she is now.)
