Okira suggested what season I should draw my ninjago ocs in. The suggestion was Hunted!!

Charlie didn’t want her friends to get hurt in the dragon pit with Slab, so she revealed herself to the audience.

She might have saved her friends, but she couldn’t save herself as vengestone chains rained down on her.

Since shadow dragons weren’t useful to the hunters, they decided that she would be their next meal. But before any of that could happen, Firstbourne came and liberated the dragons.

She was angry when she spotted Charlie. But she still helped the Ninja return to Ninjago.

Also the dragon hunters do know that dragons can shift into humans, they’ve just never seen it before.

Lloyd walked up to the boulder. Cole and his painting faded from years of Lloyd not coming down and touching it up. He ran his fingers through the carved grooves, feeling how vegetation clung there.

Turning to Nya, Lloyd saw her in the middle of wiping her eye with the back of her hand. "...I know it isn't my place to ask, but do you think we can give this a fresh coat of paint? Just to brighten it up. Like the mural, you did that one time."

"I can't do that, Lloyd. " Nya reached out to graze her own fingertips along the carving. Her touch featherlight. "I can tell you what you need to do, but this has to be you and him."

"I understand." He said quietly, leaning his head against her shoulder. Her arm snakes around his back and pulls him closer to her.

Pressing her head into his hair, she gave a sigh that had a shudder that wouldn't have been noticeable if you weren't listening. "Maybe we can make our own, you know? Get Skylor here so she adds her mark to it, too."

Lloyd pressed back, shaking his head. His own voice terse. "Wouldn't work without Pixal."

He felt Nya's lips pull tight, her grip on his side strengthening. "You're right."

Remember Slab from season 9? Or that fire dragon that never got a name but helped save Ninjago? I doodled them

I named the fire dragon Alinta because I felt like she deserved a name. I also like to think she is that dragon that was used for the forge in the hunter camp. The hunters would call her Pyra.

I kinda kept Slab’s original name because I couldn’t think of anything that fit. (Also a trans head canon.)

Just ignore Pebble (mushroom hat) and Vayu (top left corner also my oc).

Ninjago - Coming Home (Cole) (700 follower event)

The minute you walked through the door, you were hit with the incredible scent of something cooking in the kitchen. It was a smell you knew all too well, and one that never failed to make your mouth water. 

Taking off your shoes as quickly as your exhaustion allows, you scurried into the kitchen to find exactly what you expected.

His back was turned to you, and in the center of his lower back the apron was tied in a messy bow. His arms worked on something in front of him, and you could hear him humming quietly to whatever was playing through his headphones.

You decide to take the opportunity to sneak up on him. Quietly you tiptoed across the tile floor, raising your arms in preparation.

“Boo!” You exclaimed, grabbing his shoulders.

Cole gave a little yelp, sending the spatula he was holding down to the floor with a splat.

“Y/n!” Instead of being upset, he whirled around to greet you with a smile. He threw his arms around you, lifting you effortlessly and twirling around the kitchen. 

Once you were both thoroughly dizzy he let you down, planting a quick kiss on your cheek while you continued to giggle.

“I’m glad you’re home, sweetheart,” he sighed, his hands clasped at the small of your back.

“I’m glad to be home! Mmm… What are you cooking?” You glanced past him at the cooking ware on the stove, as well as the bowl on the counter.

“I think you know,” Cole replied with a wink. “Your favorite. And then a cake for later.”

“You made [favorite meal]?”

“Sure did! Not too bad, either, eh?”

You approached the stove to look at it. It smelled fine—no, it smelled amazing. And it looked… not bad, actually. 

“You’re getting better on your presentation,” you hummed.

“Yeah? Does that mean it actually looks edible?”

You chuckled, turning around to grasp your boyfriend’s hand. “More than edible. I’m physically restraining myself from digging in right now.”

Cole smiled, pecking your lips gratefully. “Thanks. I tried.”

You walked over to the bowl to look at the cake frosting. Chocolate, of course. And on a cooling rack nearby there waited two slabs of—you guessed it—chocolate cake.

“Can I lick the—” You turned around to find Cole licking the spatula already. You were about to pout, but suddenly you remembered that he dropped that spatula a minute ago.

“Cole! That’s probably covered in germs!”

“Five second rule.”

“It has been way more than five seconds.”

“...Five minute rule.”

You sigh, taking the spatula from his hands despite his protesting. You approach the sink, ready to clean it off, but… you can’t resist a little lick yourself.

“Hey! I saw that!”

“Saw what?”

“What happened to ‘that’s probably covered in germs’?”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” You shook your head, washing the spatula.

“You filthy liar,” Cole chided, coming up behind you and wrapping his arms around your middle. “Now give it back so I can finish the cake.”

Drying off the spatula, you handed it to Cole. He kissed your cheek as thanks and began working on icing the top of the first layer. 

“So, how was your day?”

“It was good. Tiring, that’s all.”

“Oh, I know the feeling. Ninja work doesn’t go easy on a guy.”

“I’d argue that it could be a little harder on you guys,” you challenged, earning a perked up eyebrow from Cole. “I mean, Jay still manages to call me about ten times a day.”

He burst out in laughter, understanding your meaning now. “Ah, he’s your brother; he just worries. I do, too, you know.”

“Yeah, but you don’t bug me every hour of the day about it.”

“True. I wait until you get home to pester you.”

You scoff bemusedly. “You don’t pester me at home. You make me awesome meals and cakes.”

“Hm… also true. But then I pester you.”

“No. Then you go into a food coma for an hour.”

“Y/n, I’m trying to sound romantic here,” Cole joked, bumping you with his elbow. “As your boyfriend, I worry about your safety.”

“And I appreciate that. But I also appreciate how you don’t pester me about it. Unlike a certain someone…”

“I guess I don’t. Only because I trust you, though. I trust that you’ll call when you need help, and you’ll tell me when you get hurt.” He looked at you from the corner of his eye, and you could feel his gaze on you as you took to washing a couple dishes. “...Are you hurt?”

“No, my love. I’m fine. Are you hurt?”

“Nope. You know I stay safe out there.”

“Yeah. I bet you’re about as sore as I am, though.”

“Oh, definitely. I’m already looking forward to that food coma.”

You snickered, washing the last dish just as Cole finished icing the cake. 

“And… done. Look at her… she’s beautiful… and the cake looks good, too.” Cole winked at you, ignoring your good-natured eyeroll. “Let’s eat now.”

The food was, as usual, divine. Cole had refined his cooking skills throughout the years, and though he always insisted that Zane was the better cook, you personally preferred Cole’s cooking. It had a strange sleep-inducing effect, one that always put you both out for at least an hour.

And so, after finishing some cake, you both lumbered over to the couch for a nap. You found your natural spot on top of him, sprawled out like a blanket over him. (He liked to call you his “personal weighted blanket,” which always amused you)

Your muscles relaxed for the first time that day, and you could feel Cole’s muscles relaxing, too. That was a good thing; he was much more comfortable to lay on when he relaxed.

You could hear his heart beating in his chest, and that was the only noise you heard as you drifted off.

Though, you could’ve sworn you heard, just as you were about to enter dreamland:

“I love you, Y/n.”

And you liked to think that you said back, drowsily:

“I love you too, Cole.”

Ninjago dragons

What is up with dragons in the ninjago universe? They’re associated with the power of creation and often have elemental powers, usually over the elements of creation. However, we got some weirdos:

Ultra

My girl (/gn) is the combination of the dragons Wu tasked to protect the golden weapons: Flame, Shard, Rocky, and Wisp. He can use all four elements of creation, has four heads, and is referred to using both he/him and they/them

Chompy

He’s a Shintaran Ridgeback, the only one we know of. We don’t know exactly what this means, but he can grow and shrink at will

Riyu

We don’t know what Riyu is but he’s identified as “special” by several powerful magic users (including Arrakore and the Source Dragon of Energy). We have yet to see him wield a known element, but he does have the ability to amplify powers (as seen with both Sora and the earth dragons invading the Kingdom of Maddness), also used by the Matriach of his tribe known as the Mountain Dragons

Grief-Bringer

Is presumable an undead fire dragon. I’m assuming that all dragons that breath fire are fire dragons until proven otherwise. Grief-Bringer also just has additional abilities due to his nature as reawakened

Storm Dragons

I have beef with the concept of “storm.” Okay, sure, it’s a powerset unique to Wojira that combines wind, water, and lightning. It is definitively not its own element, so why are there storm dragons????? Zippy my beloved but how do you exist?? He’s not even the only one, guys

Rontu

We do not currently know what powers she has, so I’m listing her here just so she doesn’t go unmentioned

The magical slab of meat i call brain decided to connect some dots and i wanted to share.

This is going to be a bit of a prediction/theory about the future of both Jay and Pixal in dragons rising.

Starting off with Pix:

We know, that she was not with the original team during the merge, whiles still remote controlling the bounty. My guess is, that she was off in her mech, helping smaller villages like jamanakai, while the main team was protecting ninjago city. Maybe, instead of waking up somewhere in the newly merged realms afterwards, like the rest of the ninja (excluding Zane and his weird cocoon), she was actually lost to the merge, shoved into one of the pockets of nothing-space, between dimensions. This is the only way i could explain, swhy she hasn't found the others yet, as she is a technological and overall genius. It is however likely, that she will return, instead of being retconned out of existence, as she was directly mentioned and missed by Zane and season 1 and dragons rising at it‘s heart still is a children's cartoon, designed to sell toys and they wouldn't make one of their most liked characters disappear.

This is, where Jay and the administration come in. Before the release of part 2, when all we knew about the administration came from leaks in magazines and on versions of the lego website, many theorised Pixal to be the leader/founder of the administration, due to it seeming quite secret agent-y. I have seen some people still follow this theory now, and i understand why, but i think in the bureaucratic mess, the administration actually is, she is more likely to stab a printer with a paper jam.

Before bringing all the points together, lastly there is Jay and his department. There have been a lot of theories regarding who will find him, ranging from Cole (absolute chaos, as he tries to make his friend remember who he is) to Nya (ANGST). Then there is his department, the department of realm reassignment, which from a storytelling perspective seems a lot like a Chekhov's gun. It's main function in season 1, was to give some exposition about the mechanics of the merge to Arin, as well as giving him hope, go find his parents again. Then there is also the part with the Jay receal, but to our current knowledge, that could have been done with any other department as well.

So here's my theory/prediction, taking all this into account:

During the merge, Pixal was lost to the void between dimensions and disappeared. At some point after Arin's visit, a team of teleportimg agents once more comes upon a pocket of nothing soace, containing a person, that person being Pixal. However, her nindroid form keeps her from entering the kind of stasis we saw other people being reassigned to other realms in and she escapes. This is where the Chekhov‘s gun comes into play. As the department of reassignment is where she is likely brought after being found, that is also where she escapes from. On this escape, she bumps into Jay, maybe on accident, maybe she sees him and tries to get his help to escape. However, she soon realizes his memory loss. After multiple failed attempts to restore his memory and getting him to help her escape, she does that thing Nindroids can do, where they project holograms from their eyes, and uses it to show Jay a compilation of his best moments, as well as his past with Nya, including possibly his true potential, the rooftop scene from skybound in the version, that ended up happening, the scene from seabound, where he nearly sacrifices himself, charging the bounty and finally his farewell to Nya at the end of that season, as well as her memorial. This could both hell restore his memories, as well as giving new viewers pf the series a recap of important events featuring him and Nya, so those can be referenced in more detail. After this, Pixal and Jay try to escape the administration, maybe with a new and upgraded samurai X mech, releasing as a set in that year and eventually reunite with the rest of the team.

So anyway, that is my theory of how these two loose ends might be resolved, looking at both past seasons and a general storytelling and marketing standpoint. This is of course just a theory and likely way off, from what is actually going to happen, but i thought i might share. As a closing word, i would like to show the process behind this post

Radio Free Ninjago.

My mind is going to two separate places.

The first is that Garmadon is able to block radio signals somehow. Magic idk. He's just able to do it.

The second is that the resistance is running a free radio program and trying to recruit more members.

Either of those is possible.

So, maybe in the last episode, Nya was building a radio?

I'm not sure. I could swear it was a mech, but I've been wrong many times before.

The boys are kind of stuck and need to escape before they can meet up with Cole and Wu. Maybe Slab can help them? I'd like that. We'd all like that. Slab deserves to be free.

So a while back, Delta Prime2 said they wanted to see, “And Meowthra mothering Ultra and the two dragons saved from the First Realm.”

I finally got around to drawing that. Animals are hard, and the dragons from Ninjago are all varied, so I had to find good references. The request is referring to chapter 31 of Greener Pastures where Meowthra saves the Ultra Dragon and others from the hunters in the First Realm, and then proceeds to adopt them (and become an absolute menace to those who hunt dragons in the First Realm).

More content is still on its way, I've just been very busy with graduation, work, and whatnot ^^ also @legogeek33 's reblog(?) (comment???) about the First Spinjitsu Master being the equivalent of God in Ninjago is so fucking valid :)

“Well, this is gonna hurt.” 

Cole chuckles breathlessly, eyes fixed on the building that comes crashing down. Not even his superhuman strength could help him now. He can vaguely hear the cries of civilians a distance away, smiling to himself. Looks like Jay managed to get them out.

The sight of a huge concrete slab hurtling towards him after that is the last thing he sees.

“Priestess! We need your help!” 

You turn instantly at the sound of someone calling you, almost dropping the candelabra in your hands, when you see the bloodied and ragged ninja, the familiar bright colours of their gi soaked in splattered crimson.  You immediately place it down, rushing over to the temple entrance. 

“Treat him first. Please.” The green ninja pleads. He and the Lightning ninja are the only things preventing the unconscious Earth ninja between them from collapsing to the ground. You can barely make out his face, spotting a deep gash the length of your arm running down his side. 

You purse your lips, nodding. “This way,” You instruct, gesturing for some of the other temple staff on night duty to come forward and assist them. You guide them to the main room, where a giant statue of the First Spinjitsu Master stands at the front, moving to help place the Earth ninja down onto a soft mat your disciples lay down for you. 

You place his arm on your shoulder, standing up with a sharp exhale once half his weight is transferred to you. Both you and the Lightning ninja gently lay him down, your white robes now stained with blood. 

“Forgive me,” You murmur, hands gently gripping the bottom of his hood and pulling it up, exposing his face. His breathing is short and stuttered, beads of sweat on his brow as a river of red continues to trickle down his skin. 

Clasping your hands together, you start to perform your ritual of healing. You close your eyes, placing your hands directly on his wound. Blood coats the skin, and you feel your palms warm. 

Even with your eyes closed, you can still see the faint soft rays that emit from your palms. The strong scent of iron fills the air, practically coating your tongue. You struggle to hold back the nausea that overwhelms you, focusing purely on saving this man’s life. Eventually, you hear his pained grunts fade and the familiar trickle of the blood slowing its flow.

His wound is the first thing you check. It’s no longer bleeding, a thin layer of raw pink skin forming over it. Dried blood cakes the surrounding skin, but other than that, he would be alright. The rest of the ninjas receiving treatment behind you are staring in awe, still in disbelief that they have managed to witness your holy powers for the first time in their lives.

You nod at another of your disciples who steps forward, gently picking up the Earth ninja and bringing him to the med bay in the church. You turn to face the rest, a small smile on your lips. “He will be alright now.”

They all breathe out sighs of relief, thanking you profusely. “It’s alright. Please, stay and rest. We will take care of you, so feel free to ask for any assistance. My friend here will guide you to your rooms, while I will oversee your friend's recovery personally.” After a quick bow to the grateful ninja, you take your leave, reassuring them of any worries they previously held.

The next few days are relatively peaceful, with the ninja having more or less fully recovered from their injuries. Well, all save for one. The Earth ninja remained unconscious, and you were in the med bay day and night, healing him to the best of your ability. 

You’d even helped change and bandage him. Sure, it was a little embarrassing at first, with your innocent eyes never having seen a man shirtless. You’d gotten used to it over time, though, and aren’t as affected as before. Cole was his name, you heard, with the ninja becoming more comfortable around you and revealing their identities. It’s a nice name. You like the way it rolls off your tongue.

You rinse the clean cloth in the pail on the table beside you, wringing it dry and gently dabbing at the scrapes and bruises on his body. The shallow cuts gradually healed, with most of them barely leaving scars. The deep gash from the night before is also healing rather nicely, most of the dried blood having been wiped away. 

You brush aside his hair, taking a moment to admire his face. He’s rather handsome, you suppose, with long lashes brushing against the skin under his eyes, his pale upper lip curved with a perfect cupid’s bow. His toned arms lay on each side of him, the defined muscle more apparent without his gi covering them. 

You gingerly brush the soft cloth against his cheek, cleaning it as per your usual ritual and leaving the more private areas alone. You move onto his arms, turning to rinse the cloth once more.

“Who…are you…?” You’re startled by the sudden voice, turning to see Cole’s lips tugged downwards in a confused frown. You approach him with a warm smile, gently shushing him and continuing to clean his body. 

“Everything’s okay; get some proper rest now. You’re in a safe place.” You promise him. He can barely muster the strength to speak, trying to sit up. You place your hands on his shoulders, pushing him back down with a tut and sitting on his bed. He doesn’t protest, his eyes fixed on your face even as they slowly close.

He begins to snore. You stifle a giggle, finishing up your task before gathering the pail and cloth and leaving the room. You make your way to the kitchen, placing the pail down in its usual place, where someone would help to clean it. 

The next few days are much more lively. Once the rest of the ninjas heard that their friend was alright, they visited the med bay every day. More often than not, you had to chase them out so that Cole could get enough rest. Okay, maybe you just wanted to spend time with him as well. 

Over the weeks spent with him, the both of you had bonded over your mutual love of books, eagerly discussing trivial topics such as the thrilling adventures of Lillian McGonagall, a book series you both are fans of. However, as time passed and Cole recovered fully, you found yourself wishing more and more that he’d stay. 

One night, however, you found yourself in his room, having subconsciously made an excuse to yourself to just check up on him one last time before he left with the rest of the ninjas. Strangely enough, your heart twisted at the thought of waking up to a temple devoid of his presence, already dreading the morning when you’d forget that he wasn’t here anymore. 

You knock on the door, surprised when it opens on the second tap. Suddenly, you’re tugged into the room, the door closing behind you with a soft click. You find yourself with your back against it, looking up into warm obsidian eyes. “Hey,” You greet Cole breathlessly, your hands gripping the fabric of your white robe as your racing heart thrums happily in your chest.

“Hey,” He chuckles, his palm resting flat against the door beside your head. You can’t look away, eyes fixed on his playful yet kind gaze. “So, what’re you doing here?”

“I couldn’t sleep, so I just thought I’d check on you.” Your lousy excuse is obvious, even to him. He raises a brow at your words, lips tugging up into a smirk. Oh. You swallow thickly. To have those lips on yours would be such a blessing.

“I couldn’t sleep either.” You’re suddenly made aware of his free hand gently combing through your long locks, the silky strands on his fingers as he lifts his hand up. His gaze doesn’t falter, even as he kisses your hair.

You feel your cheeks warm, your head flooding with unholy thoughts you can’t seem to will away, no matter how much you try. It’d be a lie to say that having his lips on yours isn’t all that’s on your mind right now.

You forget how to breathe, especially when he smiles down at you. He takes a step closer, than another, until your bodies are flush against each other. His hand cups your chin, his thumb brushing over your plump bottom lip. His eyes flit from your eyes to your lips, then back up again. 

You can’t think.

“May I?” 

Cole’s husky whisper is all the temptation you need, managing a shaky nod as your tongue darts out to lick your lips. All at once, his lips are on yours. You close your eyes, moving your lips against his and chasing the sweet and addictive taste of euphoria he provides. 

You pull him closer, and his hand grips your right thigh, gently squeezing it. You oblige, lifting your legs and wrapping them around his waist. The kiss grows more urgent. The promise of tomorrow’s departure spurs both of you forward to cross the line. 

Except, the line isn’t crossed. 

You pull back, panting heavily as dark pink coats your cheeks. His luscious red lips are all you can see, but you come to your senses through the haze. You can’t go any further than this. If you did, you’d fall for him harder than ever. You wouldn’t be able to handle his absence.

So you cup his cheek, pressing a gentle peck against it. 

This seems to bring him back down to earth from his euphoric high, blinking a few times before he smiles softly at you. The both of you share another gentle yet chaste kiss, your hands tangling themselves in his shaggy, coal-black hair as the both of you continue to whisper tender words and affectionate promises to each other through the dizzying brush of his lips against yours. 

The following day, he departs. But not before giving you one last kiss, hidden away in the med bay after you help him pack his belongings. Giving your goodbyes to the ninja, you watch them leave, eyes fixed on one in particular. A hushed promise of his is held close to your heart, one of him returning. 

It’s been a year since they left, and you’ve busied yourself with the temple's upkeep and your duties as the Priestess of the temple. You’re occasionally given updates on the ninja, hearing about their adventures in the Kingdom of Shintaro. You hear about Cole and Vania, a shard of jealousy embedding itself in your heart. 

After that, you explicitly ordered no one to mention his name around you. You didn’t want to know. So much for the promise he made to you. Were you nothing to him? Did that night become nothing more than mere memory to him? 

Did he forget about you?

You weren’t sure whether you wanted answers.

One day, however, you returned from an outing to the village where you cured the sick and injured, as was your regular routine. The temple was in a commotion, with various staff rushing around as if they were preparing for the arrival of a royal.

“What’s going on?” You question one of them, stopping her as she rushes toward the kitchen. 

“I-I think it’s best if you see it for yourself, priestess.” She stutters, glancing at the main room. You frown, letting her go and making your way there yourself. Who would be as bold as to intrude into your sanctuary? 

You push the doors open, your rushed footsteps slowing to a stop when you register the familiar black gi. He turns, and it’s as if you’re seeing him for the first time again. The hair you’d so carelessly tangled your hands in, those stupid lips you’d so passionately kissed all those nights ago….

It can’t be.

You’re frozen in place as Cole strides over, the easygoing smile on his lips making your heart skip a beat even now. You can’t even muster the strength to push him away as he tucks a lock of hair behind your ear, lifting up a few strands and kissing them before looking up at you with a mischievous glint in his eyes.

“I told you I’d come back.”

Considering Slab is part of "Dualties in Bloodshed," I figured he deserved to have a voice claim considering all the other dragons who appear in Dragons Rising s1 do!

This is more or less a test to see if I like the tone, but the chosen VA claim is Imari Williams' performance as Skarner, from Leage of Legends. Also, yes, most of these are aggressive as we never really see him calm.

When the ninja get back from the First Realm, they find that everything’s gone to hell. Garmadon’s taken over, Harumi’s plan failed, and most of the resistance has been captured while Lloyd, and Nya are trying to fight off Ultra Violet. So how the season normally goes.

The ninja fly in on their dragons (Cole has to ride with Jay since they weren’t able to get Slab since they were too banged up) and start fighting the sog.

When Lloyd goes to fight Garm, Cole insists that he comes with him, despite still being pretty beat up. Lloyd says no and goes to fight, Cole doesn’t listen and follows him.

Cole ends up nearly dead because Garmadon attacks him first, then Lloyd defeats Garm while he’s distracted.

Once the ninja can get some peace and quiet, they immediately take Cole to a hospital. His wounds from the Dragon Hunters were bad, but his wounds from Garmadon are worse.

The doctor doesn’t know exactly what to do, but they try their best, and after about two weeks Cole is able to return to the monastery.

Unfortunately, this means he can’t do much in the Oni attack.

After another week, he’s well enough to go with Zane and Pix to get the Bounty back.

When the Oni come along, Cole isn’t much help, even though he tries. He ends up burrowing to escape while the ninja are getting the police on the Bounty, and he goes missing.

The ninja didn’t see him start digging, so they presume that he was either turned to stone by the fog or dead.

He does come back during the final battle, but is very wary when it comes with fighting beside Garmadon.

They do the tornado of creation and yay Ninjago’s saved.

But this leaves Cole very tired from straining himself while he was still injured

Okay, headcanon/theory/analysis regarding Jay’s mental breakdowns/insanity instances.

The reason the two times Jay has gone insane are so different isn’t necessarily because of the differences in trigger, at least not exclusively or even mostly. It’s because of his environment.

In Hunted he was around Kai, Cole, Wu, and Zane, so it kept him at least somewhat grounded in reality. He had others there to keep him tethered. He hadn’t exactly lost his grip on reality, but the idea that they’d never make it home made him basically go insane to cope with it (which is mentioned by Zane in I think like episode 2 of season 9?). Not once in Hunted does he seem like he went into psychosis. He’d just gone into a state of extreme relaxation that was abnormal for his personality.

In Crystalized, he didn’t have anyone or anything around to keep him grounded in reality, so when he went insane in Crystalized, it also induced a sort of psychosis/detachment from reality (which is something Kai brings up in Farewell the Sea).

I also feel like the emotional triggers might’ve had something to do with it. In Hunted Jay was most likely dealing with extreme anxiety related to the idea of never getting out of the First Realm and getting back to Ninjago, so he went insane to keep himself calm. In Crystalized Jay had been dealing with extreme depression and a traumatic loss, so to deal with the loss — and by extension, the depression — he ended up basically delusional and detached from reality to cope with it.

So here are a few key differences.

In Hunted:

Jay is incredibly calm to the point of freaking Kai out.

He also hasn’t exactly lost his grip on reality — he himself says “I’ve been feeling so much better since I accepted our situation!” which would imply he knows how dire their situation is and he’s not having delusions about it being better than it actually is (which would most likely be the delusions in the context of Hunted). He’s not delusional, he’s not detached from reality — he just went into an extreme state of being calm about the situation that is incredibly out of character.

There’s never once an implication that he’s delusional or detached from reality either. He’s the most anxiety riddled ninja in the group, so of course he’s going to doubt being able to get back to Ninjago. He knows they’re in a dangerous place — he’s 100% ready to die in the Pit fighting Slab, literally telling Kai “If I’m going out, I’m going out with bells on!”

Jay knows what he’s doing the entire time. He knows what’s going on. His insanity manifests in an extremely calm state that isn’t normal for him, not delusions or losing his grip on reality.

Jay doesn’t slowly come out of his insanity. He comes out of it instantaneously because he realizes he almost got himself killed.

In Crystalized:

Jay’s insanity does manifest in a detachment from reality and delusions, both shown in him keeping tap water around the lighthouse because he thinks he’s keeping part of Nya around with him.

Jay literally fights Kai because of the previous point.

Kai says “I think the cheese slid off Jay’s cracker” and he and Cole are quite confused and concerned by his behavior and appearance (Zane’s just there. He didn’t have his emotion meter on I don’t think he was capable of being confused or concerned).

When Jay returns to the monastery with Kai, Cole, and Zane, his insanity — while the psychosis is still there — calms down slightly, something I attribute to having others around to ground him and bring him back to reality, even if just slightly. Yes, Jay is still psychotic when he gets back to the monastery. But it’s definitely not as intense as it was at the lighthouse.

He comes out of the psychosis slower than he came out of the insanity he was experiencing in Hunted.

That’s the other huge difference: Jay never experienced psychosis in Hunted. He was psychotic for the first few episodes of Crystalized.

Both are different responses to different forms of trauma and I feel like the main reason Jay went into full on psychosis in Crystalized is because nobody was around to help him stay grounded in reality, so his tether to reality eventually snapped and he ended up detached from it. Being around Kai, Cole, Zane, Pixal, and Wu most likely helped him regain a bit of that tether, and he only regained all of it once he found out Nya could be saved.

So basically the main differences between Jay’s insanity in Hunted and Crystalized is in Hunted he never actually lost his grip on reality, he just was coping with the situation in a quite out of character way because he was most likely absolutely terrified with their situation, whereas in Crystalized he ended up in a psychotic state of mind (delusional and detached from reality) and emotionally unstable because of grief and depression, and possibly isolating himself and forcing himself to deal with it on his own.
