"And my ancestor Hans Augustin was fined by the Town Council of Döbeln for baking loaves which were under weight. Solely thanks to this fine he got into the annual accounts of the town and so into written history... If he had not been caught out that time we would know nothing at all about him. Or at least not until 1577; for in that year again he was fined for selling underweight rolls and loaves, and the find was once more entered into the books. The same thing happened in 1578, 1580 and, for the last time, in the year 1605. So in order to become famous one must bake loaves which are too small and be caught out. Or else loaves which are too big; but no baker has done that yet, at least I have never heard or read of one. Hans Augustin's son Caspar is called Caspar I in my chronicle. He was a baker too and is mentioned in the annals of Döblen three times – in 1613, 1621 and 1629. Can you guess why? #100days100bookshops - When I started this series, I was only going to focus on bookshops still in operation. However, this one - Slightly Foxed which used to operate on Gloucester Road holds a soft spot in my heart owing to these lovely little hardback books which they produce (reissues of classic memoirs). The bookshop closed in 2016 but the book publication is still ongoing and so is its quarterly literary magazine. 017/100 #the100dayproject #slightlyfoxed

Glow • Capturing some light at the Temple of Literature in Hanoi. Long time no post. My apologies for my absence. Since my last post, lots has happened. Especially, the last two weeks of September. Men and Dreams in the Dhauladhar by @menanddreamsinthedhauladhar is a technical fiction novel.The story is inspired out of author's personal experiences. It is the story of three different people who met each other in the Dhauladhar. Nanda, Khusru and Rekha are main characters. These three have a secret past and all of them were hiding it from everyone. 📌Several never before touched topics ha e been put forth in the novel. 📌The description of beautiful landscape of India and culture was highlight of the story. 📌With the mixture of languages, the story enlightened the diversity of our country. 📌This book written after a good amount of research, readers will be able know every little bit of the leading characters. 📌Language of the book is lucid and written in a simple way to comprehend for any kind of reader. 📌Initially I was bored by the slow pace of the novel. 📌Being a character driven book the author elaborates a lot on the past and present of the characters. 📌Technical parts may be unfamiliar with the people who are not from the engineering background. Finish • there's a phrase "done is better than perfect" I came across when reading on design creativity. I think I first saw it in David Airey's "Logo Design Love" but it's a well known anecdote in the professional world of design. Ben Barry, designer at Facebook words this much better than I but basically, the designer's struggle between creating unique art that reflects their individual style vs meeting the client's (typically non-design minded) wants and the deadline, haha. But it can be applied in any project, in this case, my self-appointed challenge in July to post every day of the month. Obviously, I failed, and a good portion of that reason was my struggle of "perfect post with caption" and the integrity of my instagram vs accomplishing my challenge. Long story short, it's hard. Surprisingly, I ended up getting quite reflective on life. Lost a lot of sleep haha, etc. But even 19 days after, I got it done. Good job self. Finish what you started. In the middle you may want to give up but st those moments gotta remind yourself why you started in the first place. Have a good Saturday folks.
