i found a level 69 slugma so this seemed fitting-

His, I’m set to move into Snow point city for work. I recently rescued a Slugma and now I don’t want him to ever leave my side. I’ve been worried about him being unhappy in a colder environment so I’ve been brainstorming some ways to make him happy.

Any tips would help but I also needed to check with a professional if my idea was something that would be okay.

I thought that I could save some money if I get a small cabin and didn’t realize that that didn’t mean it would have indoor heating, which is pretty dreadful. Thankfully with my little guy, that could potentially not be a problem. If I did some work and expanded the size of my fireplace to make it a little space (Est 80 gallons if I had to give its dimensions), I could give him a safe home and I guess keep myself warm. Is that bad? Morally or just “you should give more space”? I’m open to ideas and stuff. I have permission from the owners for renovations so long as I’m paying.

HOHKAY this is gonna be a lot to unpack - First and foremost, POKEMON ARE NOT AND CAN NOT ACT AS PERSONAL SPACE HEATERS. I know your situation sucks and you didn't know what it would be like going into things, but seriously, get an alternate heat source as fast as possible. fire type pokemon like slugma who require constantly high temperatures to live go through crazy amounts of energy in cold environments. there's a reason they're native to underground and mountainous/volcanic regions. space heaters can be reasonably priced if you find them at the right store. Even a little dinky cheap one from wy*mart will be a huge help for your slugma's wellbeing and happiness. if you EVER see solid rock starting to form on a slugma (or any lava-skinned pokemon really) take them to a doctor or pokemon center IMMEDIATELY. They can seriously get severe frostbite at room temperature. - Secondly, I am all for making your house more suited to your pokemon! A fireplace is awesome for fire types since it gives them places to let loose without worrying about smoke or flames spreading! If you lived in a warmer environment I'd recommend a dedicated outdoor space as well, but since you live in a snowy area a big fireplace will do just fine. Make sure it's always stocked with kindling in addition to whatever logs or coal you plan to keep around, as that can help get things going if they're a little tired or under the weather. - Thirdly, - and I know this may make some people upset - it might be a good idea to keep your slugma in their pokeball overnight. I know people don't like to hear that since it can feel a little mean or inhumane, but just for the plain wellbeing of your slugma, not having to worry about the bitter cold all the time would be a really big plus. You may also want to consider some mineral-enhanced food, since not having warm rocks to absorb them from can cause deficiencies.
