Leaves in the Fall

Jim sighed, looking at the book and reading the same paragraph twice without any real retention of what that paragraph contained. He had thought the book would help him, but there was no substitute for actual exercise. Jim shut the book, not bothering to mark his place. There were so many things going on simultaneously he almost couldn't think straight. He  pinched the bridge of his nose. That would be just his luck--a nose bleed to ruin the book, his suit, his shirt, the chair...

He rolled his eyes, laying the book down and straightening the jacket. He decided going for a walk would be best. He took the keys to the flat before exiting and locking up. He took the lift down to the first floor, leaving the building as his feet carried him towards the park. The change in scenery from the structured tidiness of his study to London in autumn would be better than diving into another thick tome for the sixth time in two and a half days. Sleep was the other option, but Jim didn't bother with attempting that. It would be at least another day before he'd actually feel the crash of his energy.
