Metal Slug X: Completion Review + Other Thoughts

I've finally completed the last game that the Metal Pack emulator has to offer.

I decided to skip the Current Review this time because I honestly don't have much to say. I also chose Eri for this run.

Review:

When playing through the game, I realised that my skills from the original Metal Slug 2 have slightly improved. If I'll be honest, due to playing Metal Slug 2, I had a somewhat easier time anticipating enemy attack patterns and spawn locations. With the skills I've slowly developed, I was able to go through the game with slight ease. I still died many times throughout my entire playthrough, but it felt like less compared to playing through Metal Slug 2. I've been hoarding bombs like a madman most of the time (I try to save them for bosses). I've also been trying my best to manage bullets and keep the vehicles as damage free as possible.

I'm glad the framerate issue has been dealt with, making it easier to get through. I also like how SNK was willing to add more stuff to Metal Slug X than the original and rearrange a few things. It makes Metal Slug X a far more enjoyable experience compared to the original.

I managed to rescue Hyakutaro twice for this run, which is amazing! I was pretty surprised that I saved him this time...

I recaptured 70 prisoners and got a high score of 3656220! I did a much better job with recapturing prisoners compared to my first run of Metal Slug 2. I almost failed the final boss and a small part of me wanted to give up. However, I persisted through the fight because I wanted to try and not lose a decent amount of recaptured prisoners.

Overall, this is one of the better Metal Slug games out there and I'm glad that SNK gave Metal Slug 2 another chance.

Other Thoughts:

I still have a Metal Slug OC I need to complete, but I don't have a lot of ideas for that as of late.

I'm glad that they put some effort into the end credits. It's not as good as the first, third, and fifth games. However, I did enjoy looking at the concept art they provided for the end credits.

I do plan on replaying a couple of the games, primarily Metal Slug 3.

It works perfectly but someday I’d like to install something a bit more polished. With my big toe I can flip the system on or off. Since mine is very hard to get behind because of how I’ve positioned into a corner of my retro game room I’m currently using a power bar that’s long enough to sit right beside the cabinet. Turning them off was often done by just pulling the power plug. It’s not an essential feature but it’s a cool one that I would like to get working again.Ĥ) Arcade cabinets were originally meant to be left on almost all the time. When you press the Game Select button the Marquee will light up the mini-marquee poster that corresponds to the selected game.Ĭurrently mine will not light up at all. This was a very unique feature in the 90’s. And by the use of the ‘Select Game’ button you could cycle through the selection and pick the one you wanted to play. The arcade version was called MVS because many Neo Geo arcade cabinets could hold more then one game either 2,4, or 6 games. Unless you were content feeding quarters to a Big Red in the arcades.īut if you did have the money you could purchase the home version of the Neo Geo called the Neo Geo AES (Advanced Entertainment System) which was exactly the same hardware as the Neo Geo MVS (Multi Video System) in the arcades. But in the late 90’s the Neo Geo was a boheimeth that could not be touched or afforded by most of us. Today the gap in graphical fidelity feels very small. Back in the day the distinction in the graphics felt massive. It’s hard to describe how much better the Neo Geo looked compared to the Genesis or SNES. NAM-1975 was the first Neo Geo game I saw when the system was new and it blew my mind. And NAM-1975 is one that I really wanted. These are all common and cheap (for Neo Geo) games but it was still nice to get some throw-ins. But it did come with four games to help soften the purchase price. Especially something that is such a pain in the butt to move. $650 is a lot of money to drop on anything. Maybe you’ve played on my Big Red! Who knows?! And this beast actually lived out is glory days in actual bonafide arcades. Why didn’t I get a MAME box? I still might someday but for me I really enjoy having the real thing. Both the arcade system and console were powerful for the time and the AES allowed for perfect ports of games released for the MVS. ✨ Knows some of the coolest forgotten/hidden locations and will take his partner on spontaneous trips to explore. Is a great storyteller and will make up some fun backstories to locations which they won't always know if they’re true or just him exaggerating details.

✨ If his partner is as into D&D as he is, then he’d love to have them join the sessions with the rest of the Hellfire Club (just don’t expect favouritism during games).

✨ Eddie loves someone who is just as obsessively nerdy as he is. Even if they aren’t into exactly the same music or other interests as he is, he just finds their passion very infectious.

✨ Eddie is a great person to have around when his partner is going through something. He'll listen to them without interrupting and hold their hand.

✨ Isn't really into being dominant and will often just let his partner take the lead.

✨ Although, he does prefer to have an equal balance and will try to take the lead on some occasions. This can especially be the case if his S/O has a very dominant personality.

✨ In arguments Eddie can be kind of childish, especially when he knows he's in the wrong. He will admit it, but will be a dick about it sometimes.

✨ Depending on how heated fights can get, Eddie will sometimes just walk out to cool off and his partner might not hear from him for a couple days until he's cooled down.

✨ If his S/O in the wrong he's generally pretty accepting of apologies if he believes they are genuine.

✨ If he's in the wrong he'll be pretty guilty and distraught about his behavior. He might go a bit over the top trying to show how sorry he is. This might be writing his S/O a song and performing for them at their window at night.

✨ Eddie is a very grateful boi. He loves being with his partner and is happy for having any moment he can with them.
