Achieving Zen in Snowboarding
In the world of winter sports, snowboarding stands out as a vibrant blend of adrenaline, freedom, and creativity. Yet, beyond the exhilarating jumps and sharp turns lies a deeper, more introspective layer to this beloved sport: achieving Zen in snowboarding. This concept transcends the physical aspects of snowboarding, inviting riders into a state of profound mindfulness and connection with the…

How the 104th cadet corps gets their exercise routine
(Plus bonus Porco and Pieck)
Eren: Jumped around on different types of exercise until Tae Kwon Do really resonated with him. It ended up being a great outlet for his energy and temper and once he started doing it regularly, everyone noticed he mellowed out a lot in his personal life. He’s a probationary black belt currently and once he earns his black belt he wants to make a display for all of his previous belts to hang up in his living room.
Mikasa: Hosts her own workout class once a week. Runs a fitness blog that focuses more on balance rather than pushing yourself continuously. Heavily cautions against eating disorders (especially towards men) and ends all her videos with “you are a warrior. Know this. You have the power to slay all the obstacles in your path, even if you have to do it alone.” Can bench 300 but doesn’t really talk about it. Is 100% that ultra-feminine girl that Eren loses his mind over when she randomly flexes and he calls her “muscle mommy” as a joke
Armin: Jogs casually in the mornings but he had a discount on ClassPass and eventually found a yoga studio he fell in love with. Wears traditional salwar pants and got embarrassed when Eren said he was wearing “MC Hammer pants”. Yoga is his time to decompress and he can probably fold his body into a pretzel. Goes to the meditation studio next door right after for an hour. Takes Annie to goat yoga for her birthday
Annie: Saw a run club online and thought that was cost-effective and easy to commit to. Sasha heard her mention it and got super excited. She still jogs with her headphones on and doesn’t talk while actually running but she enjoys Sasha’s company regardless. Does the color run every year with Sasha and Connie. Armin always writes a silly sign for her and sneaks a picture of her covered in rainbow cornstarch with a huge smile on her face and sets it as his phone background
Bertholdt: He’s tall and kind of lanky so you wouldn’t really think much of him working out, but he’s really into longboarding and is REALLY good at snowboarding. He’s casually doing Olympic-level stunts and is like “dude it’s really not hard you just have to lean into the movements and let the board go where it wants to go” if anyone asks him about it. His longboard is COVERED with OddFuture stickers he got at Zumiez
Reiner: Lives and dies by lifting. Has whey protein with every meal and curates everything he eats by its macros and nutrient density. It took Mikasa everything she had to convince him to stop paying attention to all of that and to just eat whatever he wants when he’s hungry because at the end of the day he’s still in great shape even if he eats some cookies. He still fell for the Bloom superfood powder hype though but at least it’s not creatine or alpha male podcasts.
Ymir: Doesn’t really think about working out but can hike from sunrise to sunset without so much as panting. Has a matching owala with Historia’s and could probably climb Mount Everest without assistance or gear if you left her to her own devices. When she’s in the vicinity of one she will scale a rock wall in ten seconds.
Historia: Works out more for the aesthetic than for the health benefits because she’s already hiking with Ymir pretty often. A stairmaster HATES to see her walking into the girls-only gym with her Owala that’s clattering with charms. Only wears matching sets from gymshark and does no upper body at all. Not because she “doesn’t want to look bulky,” but because she doesn’t know how to properly do any upper body and doesn’t really care to learn since Ymir is already physically strong.
Marco: Casually works out but he’s a swimmer through and through. Freestyle is his stroke but Jean keeps telling him he has the wingspan to compete professionally in a 200m butterfly. Goes to the local public pool on his own time but prefers when Jean is free so he can use his guest pass to swim in a private gym instead. His favorite pair of racing trunks are the ones Jean gave him for his birthday that look like Patrick Star’s
Sasha: Isn’t super devoted to working out but when Annie mentioned the run club she got SUPER excited and signed the both of them and Connie up. Took Annie to get matching running shorts and shoes and posts her stats on her Instagram stories. After running a 5k and the city’s annual half-marathon she celebrates by absolutely pigging out at Applebee’s
Connie: After joining the run club he unintentionally picks up a TON of girls on a regular basis. He doesn’t even notice they’re fawning over him and just thinks they want his number to get updates on official events. Gets really passionate about Hokas and all of his running shorts have some ridiculous pattern on them. Qualifies for the half-marathon every year and dumps a bottle of water on his face five seconds after crossing the finish line
Jean: ABSOLUTELY has an Equinox membership that his mom pays for (she knows someone in corporate who gets her a 75% discount). Brings travel bottles to fill with Aēsop soap every time. Does not have Equinox merch because he’s self-aware enough to know that it’s douchey. You’d think he lifts but he’s actually a great swimmer and invites Marco on his guest pass to race every week (he lets Marco win because he likes seeing him get so excited)
Pieck: Pilates Queen. Mooches off Jean’s guest pass at Equinox but he doesn’t mind because she always likes to take “gym couple” photos. Outside of that she goes to a local Pilates studio and gets the staff holiday gift baskets every year because they’re tight like that now. Has matching sets to work out in with the girlies but prefers to work out in biker shorts and one of Jean’s tshirts when she’s on her own
Porco: was originally a CrossFit fiend until he pulled a muscle and realized CrossFit does NOT prioritize form and you’re actually just destroying your body. Bought an Equinox membership at Jean’s behest but does wear the merch because he thinks it’s comfortable and doesn’t care if it’s douchey. Says Pilates is for girls and doesn’t want to be the weird straight man in a Pilates studio but is secretly very interested in it.

Your honor, I'd like a Grusha x reader (send help, I love this man so much) with a side of hurt and comfort where reader has always been with him during his prime snowboarding days, and even after the incident they just refuse to leave him. Stay until the very end, let's go.

life is indecisive at times. you can be riding high and easy, ready to overcome anything. but then it can send a hurdle too tall for you to climb over, and all of a sudden you’re toppling down from your proud stance.
before the incident, he’d been overconfident. so sure about everything, that it’d be fine and he could rest in the fact that he was the best. but overconfidence and immaturity often lead to dark roads, and that’s where he’d parked until the fatal day.
watching him race down the slopes, you could appreciate his abilities and could easily understand why he’d be so proud of his talents.
but no one’s invulnerable to the harsh conditions of the mountains.
your heart sank as you shouted from afar, his body lying still in the snow. some of his gear had landed elsewhere, while he himself was escorted onto an ambulance.
you’d hopped over the safety barriers and carefully slid down the snow, your boots acting as well enough stabilizers to arrive at the scene.
it wasn’t pretty. and yet, you found yourself grasping his hand the whole ride to the hospital. his bruised, damaged hand.
and stifling back tears as best you could, you simply wished for one thing: for him to stay alive.
it wasn’t till grusha woke up in a bed in an operating room that he felt regret.
the door creaked open, your head popping in. rushing in, you held back the urge to jump into his arms and squeeze him tightly.
the doctor followed you in, shutting the door with a light push.
you both sat on the chairs near the bed, you brushing your fingers over grusha’s hand. he weakly entwined his fingers with yours.
the doctor began listing all grusha’s injuries, including the talk about recovery periods and check ups as well as the topic of exercising and what things to do and not to do.
one question buzzed at the top of your tongue. you knew the answer, but wanted to hear him confirm it.
“will grusha be able to go back to snowboarding?”
the doctor sighed, as if worried one of you would inquire about the subject. you noticed grusha shifting his head away from your gaze.
“it’d be too much stress on your body right now, especially with the moves you’re usually equipped to do,” the doctor said, standing up from his seat. “that’s how i'll put it. i advise against it, unless you want to put your body in more risk.”
after some subsequent words passed, the doctor left, leaving you and grusha alone.
you held both his hands now in between yours. the air was heavy as you just stared at grusha’s eyes beginning to water up, his eyelids doing their best to blink the tears away.
“it’ll be okay...” you tried to reassure.
he shook his head. “no, it won’t!” he snapped back without thought.
you sunk your head, your chest feeling heavier than before.
“…sorry.” you muttered out of impulse. “if…if you want, i can leave…give you some space.”
grusha’s mind filled with more guilt. you’d just been trying to make him feel at least a bit better, and he’d practically yelled back at you in response.
“no, no. i’m sorry, please stay. i just—this is too much for me right now.” he looked down, his eyes shutting. “just a few hours ago, i was ready to win a championship. now…i’m being told i can’t continue professional snowboarding ever again—how am i supposed to move on from this?”
you awkwardly hugged him, careful not to put too much pressure on and hurt him. in the silence, you whispered, “no matter what happens, i’ll always be here, okay?”
he finally let some tears escape, doing his best to hold you despite his aching muscles screaming at him to stop moving.
grusha took a deep breath. “…i don’t deserve you, a-at all. you should leave me and find someone better—”
“don’t. i’m not leaving you, you’re already the best for me,” some tears began trickling down your face as well, your sleeve quickly wiping them away. “…no matter what, we’re going to get through this together.”
“i love you,” grusha’s voice was small, his head burying into your shoulder.
“i love you too,” you couldn’t help a small laugh leave your mouth at his unusual vulnerability. “and that’ll never change.”
when he was discharged from the hospital, you’d temporarily moved into his place. and true to your word, you’d stayed.
stayed with him despite his growing, cold attitude to others. stayed despite his seemingly dramatic and endless mood swings. and soon enough, your fifth anniversary of dating came by.
grusha was positioned sitting on the couch, not doing much. just sitting and half listening to the tv’s buzz. you’d noticed and sat next to him.
“deep in thought?” you asked, his concentrated face worrying you a tad.
“ah…don’t worry, it’s...” he trailed off.
“it’s…?”
“something. just don’t worry about me.” he fiddled with the nearby blanket. “actually…can you go with me somewhere?”
you smiled at his quick decisions, getting up from the couch to bundle up.
after mirroring your actions, grusha opened the door letting the chilly breeze waft through the house.
“okay…let’s go before it gets too dark.”
the snow was freshly fallen, your footsteps as well as grusha’s marking the path behind.
the destination was best described as beautiful, as if the area around were glistening due to the snowflakes falling.
a small lake flowed next to the clearing, its water sporting a crystalline look despite it all just being liquid.
but nothing, nothing could be more beautiful to you in that moment besides the action of grusha getting on one knee and proposing right there and then.

3. The Journal
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s clear Yuri knows there's something weighing on Victor's mind. Somehow, he always seems to know, even when Victor does his best to act nonchalant. He tells himself he should've learned by now that he can't get anything past Yuri. His husband is acquainted with his ways far too well.
At the moment, Victor is rummaging around in his wardrobe cupboard — the armoire as Yuri likes to call it, because he enjoys being fancy — fruitlessly searching for his favourite set of scrubs. Yuri is already in his pyjamas. He's on Victor's bed, propped up with several pillows, with an open book on his lap. He's not reading, though. Victor assumes he's watching him instead. He hasn't heard a page turn in at least three or four minutes.
"They're in the laundry," Yuri says mildly.
Victor snaps his head up, momentarily startled by the break in the room's relative silence. "What?"
"Your scrubs with the snowboarding animals on them. That's what you're looking for, isn't it?"
"Um... yeah. But how did you—"
"You wouldn't have been looking so long if you didn't specifically want to wear that set tonight. You would've just grabbed anything clean."
"I like them. The little snowboarding polar bears make me happy," Victor says. "Would it be weird to say they're like the work uniform equivalent of a security blanket?"
"You should get another set or two before they discontinue that pattern," Yuri suggests. "And no, it's not weird." He brushes a hand across the sleeve of his one-piece PJs. "I've got the security blanket of pyjamas, so obviously I'm in no position to judge. Your scrubs are in the clean laundry, by the way. I washed them this morning. They'll be in the stack on top of the dryer that I haven't gotten around to putting away yet."
"Thanks," Victor says. "I'll get them in a few minutes."
He turns from the closet and makes his way to the bed. He stares at it longingly. There's nothing he'd like more than to crawl under the covers and sleep through the night, but he can't. Not tonight, anyway. He's got one more shift before this rotation is over.
He has enough seniority at the hospital that he could ask not to have any more night shift rotations, but he won’t do that. He actually doesn't mind working nights, and he only has to do it every third rotation in any case. In between, he'll either have two rotations of day shift, from seven in the morning till three in the afternoon, or two of mid-shift, from three in the afternoon until eleven at night. His current problem isn't that he dislikes working nights; it's that he's mentally exhausted from overthinking all evening.
He flops sideways onto the mattress and then lays his head on Yuri's lap. Anticipating him, Yuri had already moved the book. More evidence of how completely Yuri gets him.
Just as Victor predicts, Yuri lowers his hand to his head and begins to stroke his hair. Victor loves this, and he loves that Yuri knows how much it comforts him. Yuri's manicured nails graze gently over Victor's scalp, and Victor closes his eyes. A tiny sigh escapes him, even though he hadn't meant to let it out.
Yuri responds as if Victor has perfectly articulated his problem. "Want to tell me about it?"
"It's nothing," Victor says. "I'm kind of tired, that's all."
"It doesn't sound like nothing to me. Can you try again?"
Victor does a breathing exercise and counts the seconds. He wonders if nearly a full minute feels as long to Yuri as it does to him.
"I, uh... I might've messed up," he confesses at last.
"How?" Yuri asks.
"You know about Caroline's school project, right? The Media Studies one?"
"The autobiographical documentary, yes. She wants to interview us."
"Yeah."
"Did you say no?"
"No, I didn't say no," Victor says. "Did you?"
"No," Yuri says. "Of course not. Did you say yes because you wanted to or because you felt like you had to?"
"Because I wanted to," he says. "Being interviewed isn't the problem."
"What is it?"
"We were talking about the project while we were waiting for you to get home this afternoon," Victor explains. "And I might've told her we made a video journal back in the day."
"That's all right," Yuri assures him. "You didn't mess up. It's not a secret."
"I know, but that's not the problem either."
"Then, what is the problem?"
Victor draws in another deep breath, counts to ten in his head, and lets the air out slowly. "She wants to see it."
"Oh," Yuri says.
"Yeah."
"What did you tell her?"
"The only thing I could tell her," Victor replies. "I said I couldn't make that decision on my own, that I'd need to talk to you about it. I also told her that I wanted her to think seriously about what she was asking for. Like, I wouldn't have wanted to read my mom's journal when I was seventeen. I'm pretty sure I would've been traumatized by that."
"Would your seventeen year old self have said the same?" Yuri asks.
"My seventeen year old self would've been too scared to even consider it, much less ask to read it. How about you?"
"Hmm..." Yuri hums softly, his fingers still combing slowly through Victor's hair. "My seventeen year old self would've loved to get his hands on his parents' journals, if I'm being honest. My thirst for drama and the secret lives of the rich and powerful would've made me do it, if I could have. Luckily for me, my tutor was much wiser than I was and made me see the error of my ways when I casually mentioned it."
"I didn't know he was still around when you were seventeen."
"I suppose he was mainly Hana's tutor at that point," Yuri says. "But, I still went to him when I needed help or advice about something, and he helped me look after Yuki when our parents were too busy."
"Lives of the rich and powerful."
"Indeed."
"Anyway, I don't think Caroline wants to see our journal because she has a thirst for drama," Victor says. "I think she genuinely just wants to know about us, about our lives before we had her. You know, like our personal history."
"And you don't like that idea?"
"I didn't say that. I'm not super excited about the idea, but I don't remember saying anything that I'd necessarily want to hide, either. It's just... we're not the same people we were when we made those videos. I mean, we are the same people, but..."
"I know what you mean," Yuri says. "We were still trying to figure things out back then. We're the same people, but with much more experience and a different perspective."
"Exactly. Now we understand that we can all see perfectly in hindsight. We know how to predict the possible outcomes so we can plan ahead and not have stupid mistakes to feel bad about when we look back later."
"We still make mistakes. No one can plan for every possible outcome," Yuri points out.
"I know, but we can at least plan for the one where our daughter might get hurt, or where she finds out stuff she may be better off not knowing right now. We can stop her from doing something she might regret."
Yuri's hand stops moving. "That she might regret? Or that you might regret?"
Victor lets out another sigh. "Both, I guess? It's not like we've got this dark, mysterious past that we should never reveal, but if we let her watch those videos... Let's just say she's not going to see us in our finest moments. Like, twenty-five, twenty-six year old me wasn't exactly hero material. I was a mess, and I don't know how I feel about her seeing me like that."
"Oh, that's what it is," Yuri says. and even though Victor isn't looking directly at him, he can tell he's smiling a little. It's a soft, indulgent smile. Victor can hear it in the tone of his voice. "You like being her hero, and you don't want to tarnish that image in her eyes."
Yuri doesn't mean to hurt him. Victor knows this, but the knowledge doesn't prevent the sudden stab of nameless emotion that flares in the middle of his chest. Yuri's words land more heavily than he would've imagined, and more sharply than he's certain Yuri intended them to.
"Sorry," he mumbles, because that's the only word he's capable of getting out before his throat and chest start to feel tight.
The realization hits him fast and hard that maybe it's so instantly painful because Yuri isn't wrong. He does like being a hero, and despite being able to admit it to himself with no consequences, it feels oddly shameful for someone else to recognize it. His face burns with the heat of embarrassment, and he doesn't even bother attempting to hold back his tears.
Yuri's hand is back in his hair a moment later. "No, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said that. It was insensitive. I—"
"No," Victor says. "You're right."
They're both quiet while Victor pulls himself together. He's better than he used to be at regaining his composure quickly, but he still cries as easily as he ever did. It's one of the things he dislikes most about himself and one that he's never been able to fix.
"Are you all right?" Yuri asks, once Victor has managed to relax and to get his breathing back into a normal rhythm.
"I don't know," Victor admits. "I... I feel kind of stupid."
"Why?"
"Because you really are right, and also 'cause this isn't supposed to be about my ridiculous hero fantasy or whatever. I don't even know why I'm like this."
"You like being the strong one," Yuri says. "You like taking care of people and feeling needed."
"Yeah, that's true."
"But, you need someone to remind you that heroes don't have to be strong all the time. I've seen you at your weakest points, remember, and you're no less of a hero to me. In fact, perhaps you're more heroic for having survived all your worst days and never giving up on being an optimist."
"It's different with Caroline."
"How is it different?" Yuri inquires. "She loves you with everything she has. Far more than she loves me, I'm sure."
"She loves you."
"Yes, but not like she loves you," Yuri says. "You truly are her hero, and not because she believes you're perfect or superhuman. I think you're her hero for the same reason you're mine, and it would take more to change her mind than knowing you had one extraordinarily difficult year."
"Do you think so? 'Cause I don't want my reasons for not letting her see it to be selfish. I want to be rational like you. I don't want to make this all about me."
"How could it not be about you?" Yuri says. "It's about you and it's about me, and you know what? It's okay to make it all about us because we're talking about sharing something of ours that's private. If you're not comfortable sharing it, then we won't. It's as simple as that."
"That's the thing. I don't know if I'm okay with sharing it. I keep wavering back and forth. In theory, I think she could watch it. I think she's mature enough. But it feels... awkward? And what if she sees something that upsets her?"
"That's what we're here for," Yuri says. "To help her cope with anything that upsets her."
"How do you feel about letting her watch it?" Victor wants to know. "We've been talking about my feelings, but you haven't said anything about yours."
"I think you're right. We haven't got anything to hide and Caroline is mature enough to watch the videos," Yuri says. "I'm certain she already knows we aren't perfect, and that everyone has to grow, and that the process of growing is painful and messy and quite frankly horrible sometimes. She'd see us at some very low points, but she'd also see us loving and supporting each other and working things out together. And I think our successes are worth the struggle it took to get there."
"So... you'd let her watch it? Assuming we still have it and this isn't just a hypothetical discussion, I mean."
"We still have it," Yuri says.
"And...?"
"And what I'd do is give her the USB drive and let her decide for herself whether she truly wants to see it or not. You made a good choice, asking her to think carefully about that."
"Are we just going to hand it to her?" Victor asks. He has to admit he's dumbfounded by the turn their conversation has taken. He would've expected Yuri to be more reluctant than himself, and he's a little shocked to discover that Yuri doesn't seem particularly hesitant.
"Only if you agree that's what we should do," Yuri says.
"I might need more time to think about it."
'We don't have to make a decision tonight."
"Okay."
"The USB is locked in the bottom drawer of my filing cabinet with all our important documents," Yuri says. "I'll get it out in the morning, and then perhaps tomorrow evening we can look at a few of the videos ourselves. After all, it's been a long time since either of us has seen any of them. Do you think that would help you decide?"
"Maybe," Victor says. "I guess I'll have to think about that too."
"You can let me know when you make up your mind."
"We're gonna watch it in here, right?"
"Yes, or in my room," Yuri affirms. "We can get into bed with my laptop and a box of tissues. We can even listen with headphones and lock the bedroom door, if that'd make you feel better."
"I don't think we'd have to lock the door or use headphones," Victor says. "We'll have enough privacy in your room without doing that."
He wants to add that the box of tissues is a good idea, but he doesn't. As much as he wishes it weren't true, he's likely going to need them. There was a period of time during that tumultuous year when he cried almost daily, sometimes multiple times per day, and he's not sure how he'll handle revisiting the distress of his younger self. He starting to tremble just thinking about it.
This is ridiculous, he thinks. He tells himself he's completely overreacting. All that stuff was twenty years in the past. The mere thought of it shouldn't be enough to make him respond this way now.
As if reading his mind, Yuri leans slightly forward and says softly, “It'll be all right. I'll be with you, and we can stop whenever you want, even if we're only a minute in. And if you tell me to lock the USB away in the drawer and never bring it out again, that's what I'll do. We won't show it to Caroline or anyone else, if that's what you want. Okay?"
Victor calms himself as best he can.
"Okay," he agrees.

List 5 facts about a favorite sim of yours, and send this to 10 simblrs whose sims you adore ♥♥♥
I am going to this for the twins Myra and Aniara:
Tumblr media
Myra:
1 - His named is actually wrong. He was supposed to be named Myma after the AI who commits suicide in the movie Aniara but due to the Rot, Arlo got the name wrong. Myra much prefers Myra to Myma.
2 - Refuses to cut his hair so he doesn't look like his dad. Since he found out the past abuse his father subjected his mother to and all he did, Myra wants nothing to do with it.
3 - Great at practical magic (like his dad), but refuses to use it.
4 - Bought an Akyia in mount Komerobi because it was rumoured to be haunted by the souls of all the sims who died up the mountain pass and forest.
5 - Would have been an amazing singer. Knows how to sing very well and plays the piano in his free time. But snowboarding is his passion.
Tumblr media
Aniara:
1 - Is a foodie with a love for food and cooking. Has no other creative talent other than being a great cook and is happy with that. She often cooks for her brother and invites him over for dinner, otherwise man will only eat a cup of noddles and two boiled eggs.
2 - As a teen she used to be quite fat. She would have been bullied, had she not become the bully first. But has always been very insecure about her looks. When she moved to Komerobi she started becoming more mindful of her diet and exercising and lost a lot of weight. Still as weight anxiety.
3 - Is in love with her 'sempai' Tomoyo-chan whose family runs and owns the bakery she works at. Becomes increasingly more interested in bakery when for no reason whatsoever Tomoyo decides to work the same shifts as her.
4 - Keeps adopting random cats, usually to gift her lonely twin brother.
5 - On her free time she adores exploring Komerobi and going to the Onsen.

Blog Post #5: Finding Joy in the Chill of Winter
Hey everyone! For this week’s blog, something that has been on my mind recently has been the soon-approaching cold weather. As someone who thrives during summer and fall, the thought of winter can feel discouraging. Over the past few weeks, temperatures have already dropped, and I find myself dreading the long, chilly months ahead. I sometimes refer to myself as a plant that needs sunshine to function properly, and without it, I don’t always feel my best. The shorter days also contribute to my worries about winter as the fewer hours of daylight seem to make me feel more unmotivated. I’ve struggled with seasonal depression in the past, and to get a bit vulnerable, I’ve been feeling anxious about the possibility of slipping back into that mindset. Speaking about this topic is tough, but I know that I’m not alone in these feelings, which is why I’m open to starting a conversation about it!
With this in mind, I’ve been reflecting on how I’m feeling recently, and have come to realize the importance of staying connected with nature, even when it’s cold outside. During winter, surrounding ourselves in natural environments can ground us, and can provide a sense of calm and clarity. Although it’s easy to stay inside and hibernate - which is something I’ve done in the past - I now see how crucial it is to embrace the outdoors, even if it means bundling up in many layers of clothing.
I’ve been brainstorming ways to stay connected with nature during this winter, and a surefire way would be to keep going on my walks around the neighbourhood. This is something I used to do with my family during the pandemic, and I always found it super refreshing. The cold air and peaceful surroundings brought me a sense of calm and contentment. Going for a stroll and enjoying the sun whenever it’s out can be a great mood booster, and getting some exercise would shake off any sluggish feelings too. Another idea would be to try out seasonal activities to bring some fun and excitement to the winter months. There are lots of fun options, like building a snowman, or baking Christmas cookies, or even trying out a winter sport like skiing or snowboarding. Taking part in these activities would offer great opportunities to bond with friends and family. Whether it would be from starting a snowball fight, or laughing with each other while on the slopes, these little moments can help us find joy and appreciate the natural wonders of winter.
Tumblr media
Taking a stroll on campus earlier this year!
Those are just a few suggestions for staying connected with nature, which is truly essential for our physical and emotional well-being. As nature interpreters, we can learn to appreciate the unique beauty of winter, and reflect on the deeper meanings behind the changing seasons. I hope to have inspired others to find joy in winter, and nurture their connection with nature, no matter how chilly it gets!

A Review Of LEAKDRY waterproof socks
I have Sealskinz but thought I would give these a try. They are slightly lower quality with the outer and inner fabric being thinner, but this is to be expected given the price differnce. The rubber liner itself seems to be great quality, i have had no issues over several outings. What is different is the fit. Sealskins are tight on the calf, but very loose around the feet. The Leakdry go on snugly everywhere (calf and foot). This actually makes them MORE comfortable and also allows them to be worn inside a pair of boots (for winter ice fishing). The down-side is that they are very hard to get off. Overall, for the cost, I would buy these again over Sealskinz, but I would probably go up a size.

Embracing Winter Fitness: Fun and Effective Workouts for Colder Days
As the winter chill sets in and the days become shorter, maintaining an active lifestyle might seem challenging. However, staying active during the colder months is crucial for overall well-being and winter self-care. In this blog post, we'll explore a variety of fun and effective workouts that you can embrace to keep your fitness routine alive during the winter season.
Tumblr media
1. Indoor Cardio Workouts: The Heart-Pumping Warmth
When the temperatures drop, indoor cardio workouts become a fantastic way to elevate your heart rate while staying warm. High-intensity interval training (HIIT) workouts, dancing, and aerobics are excellent options to get your blood flowing and boost your mood. These workouts not only help burn calories but also provide an effective cardiorespiratory workout, keeping your heart and lungs healthy.
To enhance your indoor workout experience, consider creating a cozy ambiance with winter candles. Opt for scents like cinnamon, pine, or vanilla to add a touch of warmth to your exercise space. The flickering flames can create a calming atmosphere, making your indoor workouts a delightful self-care routine.
2. Winter Sports: Embrace the Season's Playground
Winter sports offer a fantastic opportunity to stay active and enjoy the snowy outdoors. Whether it's skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, or snowshoeing, these activities engage multiple muscle groups and provide a full-body workout. Plus, they add an element of adventure and fun to your winter fitness routine.
Before heading out, make sure to bundle up in layers to stay warm. Additionally, consider using essential oils for a pre-activity boost. Peppermint and eucalyptus essential oils, known for their invigorating properties, can be applied topically or diffused to awaken your senses and enhance your winter sports experience.
3. Yoga and Pilates: Gentle Winter Strengthening
For those seeking a more gentle approach to winter fitness, yoga and Pilates are excellent choices. These low-impact workouts focus on strength, flexibility, and mindfulness. You can practice them indoors, making them perfect for colder days when you prefer to stay cozy at home.
Create a tranquil workout space by incorporating essential oils known for relaxation, such as lavender or chamomile. Diffusing these scents can help create a calming atmosphere, making your yoga or Pilates session a winter self-care ritual for both your body and mind.
4. Home Workouts with Online Classes: The Virtual Gym Experience
The rise of online fitness classes has transformed home workouts into a virtual gym experience. Many platforms offer a variety of workouts, from strength training to dance classes, allowing you to choose routines that align with your fitness goals and preferences.
To enhance your home workout space, consider using winter-themed decor and lighting. Soft blankets, plush rugs, and ambient winter candles can create a cozy environment. Choose scents like cedarwood or frankincense to add a touch of warmth and tranquility to your at-home fitness sanctuary.
5. Strength Training: Build Winter Resilience
Strength training is an essential component of any well-rounded fitness routine, and the winter season provides an excellent opportunity to focus on building strength. Whether you use bodyweight exercises, dumbbells, or resistance bands, strength training helps improve muscle tone, boost metabolism, and enhance overall winter wellness.
Incorporate essential oils into your post-strength-training relaxation routine. Oils like lavender and bergamot can be diluted and applied topically, creating a soothing massage experience. This post-workout self-care ritual not only aids in muscle recovery but also promotes relaxation during the winter months.
6. Winter Hiking: Nature's Winter Fitness Retreat
If you're a nature enthusiast, winter hiking is a captivating way to stay active while immersing yourself in the beauty of winter landscapes. Bundle up in warm layers, including thermal socks and waterproof boots, and explore nearby trails covered in snow.
To enhance your winter hiking experience, consider using essential oils with natural bug-repelling properties, such as citronella or tea tree oil. Dilute them with a carrier oil and apply them to exposed skin to ward off insects, ensuring a more comfortable and enjoyable winter hike.
Conclusion: Elevate Your Winter Fitness Experience
Staying active during the colder months is not only essential for physical health but also contributes to winter self-care by uplifting your mood and enhancing overall well-being. Whether you choose high-intensity indoor workouts, winter sports, or calming yoga sessions, the key is to find activities that align with your preferences and keep you motivated.
Create a winter fitness routine that goes beyond physical exercise – make it a holistic experience. Embrace the season by incorporating winter candles, essential oils, and cozy decor into your workout spaces. These additions not only elevate the ambiance but also contribute to a sense of winter wellness, making your fitness routine a self-care ritual that nourishes both your body and soul. Remember, winter is not a time to hibernate but an opportunity to embrace the unique charm of the season while staying active and fit.

10 Ways to Stay Busy and Active this Winter!
Tumblr media
As the weather turns, it can be challenging to stay active — especially with the short days and busy work schedules. In 2023, we suggest committing to an ideal without strict rules, manifesting good intentions over rigid guidelines.  Create your own list of achievable gains, or refer to ours. But remember: this goal can be reached in many different ways. Stay positive, and keep track of your wins!
Sign up for a 5K
Or a 10K. Or a marathon. Up your game and then begin to train. There are some great phone apps available to help – including a “Couch to 5K” option. Outdoor exercise helps the body and mind, but make sure to layer up your clothes and protect your extremities during extreme cold temperatures.
Be a local out-of-towner
Visit your local Convention and Visitors Bureau for tourist information on your area. You’ll probably be surprised to learn new things about your town. Create a to-do list of local things to do and places to see.
Take nature walks
On New Year’s Day, America’s State Parks celebrate with organized First Day Hikes. This initiative helps people ring in the new year in a healthy way while savoring the beauty of our natural resources. Even if you miss the First Day Hike, find your local parks and scout out hikes that match your rigor level.
Go ice skating/skiing/sled riding/snowboarding
Winter sports aren’t just for little kids. Be a big kid and get back out there! Start slowly if it’s been a while. Be patient with yourself. Resist the urge to compare your skill level to others, and enjoy bringing back your inner child.
Join a gym or create your own
There are definite benefits to joining a gym – access to equipment and trainers, as well as socialization and motivation with like-minded people. However, if you’re not a “gym person,” you may be able to carve out your own workout space in an unused part of your house, like a basement, garage, or spare bedroom. But even if your house and budget are small, with good planning and online research, you can probably invest in basic things like an exercise mat, resistance bands, handheld weights, and a jump rope.
Form a team
Staying motivated can be easier by finding accountability partners. If you don’t have people in your immediate friend group who are looking to get into shape, post on social media to see if others in your expanded friend group want to join your quest for self-improvement. Once you have formed your team, collaborate on group and/or personal goals.
Meditate
Remember to take care of your mental, emotional, and spiritual health. Choose the type of meditation that aligns with your beliefs and then seek out a practitioner or learn this type of mindfulness through your own research. The benefits of meditation can include an improvement in self-control, calmness, self-care, and happiness. Carve out time daily or weekly.
Tackle indoor house projects
Change your furnace filter.
Regrout your bathroom tile.
Wash your windows.
Insulate your water pipes.
Remodel a room.
Upgrade your lighting.
Volunteer
Volunteering with a cause you feel strongly about is a great way to connect to your community and like-minded people. Think about how much time you have and make sure you don’t overcommit! You can search for volunteer opportunities online much like searching for a job with sites like serve.gov and Volunteer Match, but here are some ideas to get started.
Walk a dog at your local animal shelter.
Tutor/mentor students.
Help at your church.
Serve in a soup kitchen.
Visit/help elderly neighbors.
Donate blood.
Coach a youth sport team.
Adopt a locale to keep clean.
Help your local library.
Teach a class at a local retirement home.
Take dance classes
Dance classes aren’t just for children! Check with your local Parks and Recreation Center or search online for adult instruction in ballroom, tango, ballet, fusion – whatever type interests you. Want to tango but have no partner? Most organized dance groups welcome those who join solo and then help pair them up with others.
However you decide to stay active, make sure you are incorporating your mind, body, and soul for greater balance and well-being in all areas of your life. A holistic approach to health harmonizes your mind-body-soul connection, enriching your life and the lives of those around you.
