HEHE THIS IS ALSO FOR @youjustfeelthemforever
Arrio shot awake with a scream—his chest squeezed hard and tight, and his fingers flew to his heart, digging into his skin, almost clawing at it—and his heart was pounding violently and painfully in his chest, his limbs tense and shaking; he couldn't think, couldn't breathe, his breaths coming in short, quick, frantic gasps.
"Arrio?" A voice suddenly said—Peter's voice—and suddenly there was a weight on the bed, and a hand gripped his arm—and Arrio screamed again, flailing his fists, one making contact with Peter's chest and causing him to gasp and let go, exclaiming, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry—" Peter held both hands up "—It's okay, just breathe, Arrio, breathe, just—just focus on... how much I annoy you, yeah, tell me how much I annoy you, or—or what about me annoys you most."
Arrio wanted to lash out at him again, for him to leave him alone, so he choked out in a shaky exhale, "You—your voice," and Peter faked a hurt gasp, exclaiming, "Ouch, rude, okay then... what else?"
He was still annoying, and distracting, as usual; and Arrio found himself actually answering again, his voice a bit more steady this time: "Your... your face," he managed to gasp, and Peter smirked, a mock-offended expression on his face while he protested, "Excuse me, I'm a catch, thank you very much."
Arrio rolled his eyes, but... he wasn't panicking as much anymore, his breathing returning to normal, and the hint of a tired, grateful smile on his face—and after a moment, he muttered hoarsely, "... I hate you."
Peter just smiled, relieved he was calming down, then scoffed, "Yeah, yeah, I know, jerk—I love you too."
send me a word and a fandom, and I'll write you a five sentence fic.

Poll adventure (paventure? lol) Day 4: read the small story tidbit below the poll for more details, OR just vote based on initial impression
(✦ see past poll results + further information HERE (link) ✦)
The winning option of yesterday's poll was that the adventurer should offer the Well Creature some bread and soup ….
"Completely unsure how to even begin to interact with the strange creature from the well, The Adventurer recalls reading in a book once that 'food is a universal language', or uh.. something like that.. thus, some hearty soup and bread would surely bridge any communication barriers... probably. He serves the little cannister of broth cold, straight from his bag just dumped into a wooden bowl, mostly because he's far too nervous to try and start a fire with someone watching.. hopefully they won't mind the food not being warmed..
After gently placing a single bread roll next to the soup, he steps back, gesturing towards the meal with an uncertain smile. The creature pauses, sniffs around, then promptly disappears back into the darkness. Just as The Adventurer begins to sulk over his apparent rejection, something stirs behind him... With a rush of creaking and plopping noises, the creature resurfaces, revealing it's massive serpent-like body as it hoists itself over the crumbled stone of the well's edge with it's many arms. It cracks open it's mighty jaw just far enough for a tiny blue tongue to slither out, then politely slurps at the soup, delicate enough not to spill any.
Stumbling backwards in shock, The Adventurer simply sits there staring the entire time whilst the creature happily (and rather quickly) enjoys their meal... Seemingly appreciative of his kind offerings, another strange slinking arm creeps up from the depths of the well, daintily opening a velvet sack with it's claws and laying out a small assortment of items onto the grass. Still a bit shaken, but also never one to turn down a free gift, The Adventurer senses that the creature intends for him to take any single item of his choosing... but, which one?"

i go on vacation next week, and that's when i'm finally going to restart namesake. i've taken a long break this summer - not willingly, just working too much and possibly dumping all of my efforts into fanfiction - but i have 10 workless days to kind of fuck around a bit??? and i'd really love to see what happens
also, finally, going to create and finish an outline. i hate them very much, but i'm also desperate to avoid spiralling into another 139k behemoth draft that i don't even want to look at.

"Come on, wait up!" Root's own voice calls out.
She blinks and looks around. Her eyes widen, seeing her stand in a field. Grass and flowers gently sway around her, many of the flowers being orchids.
A figure rushes past her.
Root runs past herself.
She turns her head, eyes still wide to spot herself running up to a tall woman with dark blue hair, and.. a pink hedgehog?
What..?
Root slowly moves forward, her cloak not even rustling the grass. The version ahead of her seems so different but so similar.
The blue haired woman says something she can't make out. The words are murky and muffled, yet the voice is so familiar. The other her seems to grow red in the face. Embarrassed, maybe?
"Not my fault that I wanted to get her a good gift," the other her grumbles. "— likes those types of things so — he helped me out too."
Root feels her chest tighten. This was a memory and she wasn't getting the full thing. She reaches out a hand.
No..
The world around her fades.
No..!
Root blinks, and she's somewhere different. Shades of red and other dark colors comfort her eyes after the light from before. Again, a version of her (the past her, maybe?) walks past alongside someone.. very, very tall. Very armored too. Yet, around Root (or the other version of her) he seemed relaxed.
He said something, and once again, it was muffled and murky. His voice seemed deep but loud, and yet it brought a sense of.. comfort to Root. She knew him.
Or, at least, she used to.
Root quickly rushes after the two when she realizes they're getting further away, and her own voice giggles. "It's not like I meant to trip — on my roots! Her — are —!"
The taller man seems to laugh at that, and he gently flicks the other Root's nose, which makes her laugh. The duo seem to fall into comfortable conversation, with the past Root asking questions about where they were, and the man answering.
Root didn't get to hear any of it, as she faded away again.
She opens her eyes again, and she's standing on sand. She's staring at the back of her's and another's head.
"We'll.. always be together, right?" The past her asks, turning her head to look at the other.
The other seems to laugh, and a voice that tugs at her heart comes. And yet, still, it's murky and muffled.
"I know.. it's just.." She pauses. "Sometimes I feel like I'm.. you know.. — and you'll —"
The other girl seems to giggle gently. She leans against Root, pressing her head against Root's a bit. She says something, and it makes the past her relax.
As Root's vision fades, she's become aware that she's crying.
○●○
She jolts awake with a small gasp. Her eyes quickly meet Lyon's, who was looking at her with concern. She looks around before exhaling, seeing that she was at the camp. The camp outside the Aabid Ruins.
"You okay?" The man asks softly as she gets up from her sleeping bag and walks over. She sits down in front of the fire with him.
"Yeah.." She nods before sighing. "Lyon, can.. can hedgehogs walk on two legs?"
That seems to catch the man off guard. He pauses in tightening his bow string before frowning. His rabbit ears twitch.
"Hmm.. I mean, there's the Wilders in the mountain ranges," Lyon explains, setting down his bow. His blue eyes catch the light of the fire as he scratches his cheek. "But even then, among the full-on animal Wilders, I've never heard of a hedgehog one, much less a pink hedgehog one."
"Mm.." Root looks down. "What about any.. Roamers?"
"Us Roamers are always hybrids," he responds with another shake of his head.
She let's out a despondent hum. Lyon frowns. "Did you.. remember something?"
"Maybe," Root answers honestly. "I don't know. All I know is that.. it made me really sad.."
Lyon gently ruffles her hair. "Maybe we'll get the answers in the ruins. Now rest up, kiddo, we got a long day ahead of us."
She nods and heads back to her sleeping bag. She curls up under it and falls into a dreamless sleep.
