Prime Empire could've been so much fuckin' better than the final cut we got. The usual curse of "Good ideas, Bad execution" strikes again.

Imagine a Prime Empire that actually went the concepts route of having Jay's mom and him be the center focus? Imagine if Unagami was much more invovled by having avatar Nadakhan throw down with Jay. Because Nadakhan is the counterpart- alone, bitter, and wanting revenge. Without the creep stuff mind you. (In this one imo, Nya and Pixal should've been the ones exploring for clues. Make them go through a sort of 'they're more than what they're given' sideplot. Like how Pixal is more than Samurai X and Nya is more than just an elemental master. More than normal. Id want to include Cole in this little trio, dunno how)

Zane and Cryptor could've had such a clashing battle of duality in Prime Empire! Imagine if Zane went into PE, and his rival was Cryptor. Everything Zane was struggling with after the events of the Never Realm. How being a machine still makes him numb, makes him violent. He only follows orders when given the task. But Zane is human. He knows. He's fighting his own mental/physical battle against an enemy thats long past.

Ranking the Ninjago seasons in my own stupid opinion Pt. 2: Damn, What a Mess

Again, sorry in advance

Once again, here is how things go: I'm here for the writing. Animation and style are good points, but the turning point to me is how well written a story and its characters are, so the next season on my list is-

18. Prime Empire

I like the aesthetics of Prime Empire, I really like them a lot. I love video games, and I like isekais. But this season is a mess. Too much things to do and talk about and too little episodes to make the plot works, and even if some characters have compelling stories, the laws of the game are pretty much nonexistent, so we don't know why or how NPCs get free will and fight their own coding, nor any explanation of how Unagami is able to create a portal that brings the game into the real world. The only explaination is that a lot of energy is needed.

Going back to how there's too little time to work with the plot, Lego needed to release a few shorts in YouTube to help with context for the full season, and even that wasn't enough to build off some crucial parts, like the Ninja leveling up or finding out about the Keytanas.

And to finish it all of, this season... Was supposed to be about Jay. He was the mascot character on the boxes, he was the center of the poster, and yet he doesn't do much in his own season. The only moment where he's able to do something is when no more hero is available.

So there's that. Which means I can go to the next topic, which is-

17. Day of the Departed

It's... fine at first notice? It has a really good concept, a nice atmosphere, and finally gave Cole a chance to be his own character (good bless). We have a good conflict, a good villain in Yang, one of the most humanized villains of the show in my opinion; and even if this special made Cole human again, I like the way they did it.

However, that's just one side of it. The returning villains plotline, which is... weird the way it was put out. All of them were defeated in 2 minutes of screentime, and they barely felt like a threat at all. And the I have the least problems with was Pythor, who I think made sense to want revenge around. And don't even let me begin by somehow Cryptor having a soul and being able to come back. That was bizarre.

So yeah. The B plot alone downgrades this special a lot for me. It really should have been a season. Maybe that would've saved it.

And now we can go to the last placement today, which goes to-

16. Hands of Time

I have mixed feelings from this season... I used to hate it, but people made me like this season a lot more. But oh my god what a messy product. The animation is... questionable. The writing is off, and the plot feels really dumb when it tries to take itself seriously.

Still, I like all of the ideas this season has. Giving some more development for Lloyd's messy master path, focusing on Kai and Nya's parents and how they affect them, Pixal dettachment from Zane to become her own person and hero and his struggle to the fact he doesn't have her around, Cole trying to deal with being human again with his new powers... Everything that sounds good in paper, but got a execution more obnoxious than everything I saw coming from this show. Apart from that, it's a enjoyable watch, and it's not like the characters don't have their personalities, they're just a bit off.

Also the time travel plot was only important in the last episode, so there's that.

So this is it for now, next time will be time for the C tier, the more controversial one yet in my opinion. Until then!

More Dod stuff, meet two of the highest ranking members of the Garmadons faction, Generals Kozu and Aspheera.

(I tried to draw Samukai. It sucked, and I Do Not Want to draw him, so I've decided that he got sick of having to follow the Garmadons, so he and some of the Skulkin have split off to do their own thing)

Kozu and the rest of the Stone Army were revived by Misako after she recovered the crest from the Helmet of Shadows from Dark Island. The spell that binds the will of the Stone Warriors to whoever is in possession of the crest has since been removed by Misako (having the indestructible members of your army be controlled by something that can be lost/stolen is a massive weak-point, so she got rid of it before it could be used against her family), and the Stone Warriors follow her out of actual loyalty (and also bc they dont really know any life outside of war)

Kozu is Lloyd's most responsible babysitter

Releasing and recruiting Aspheera was Garmadons idea. It was purely bc he figured it would bother Wu. He was right.

Aspheera gleefully leads the Serpentine forces who allied themselves with the Garmadons (most of the Constrictai, all of the few surviving Anacondrai, about half of the Venomari and Fangpyers, and a handful of Hypnobrai) against Wu and his allies. She wields various magics as easily as she breathes, a more jack-of-all-trades kind of sorceress than Misako. I also made it so she still has her Hypnobrai eyes, instead of having them be changed bc of her imprisonment for whatever reason. Since she's an ancient Serpentine, shes from a time before the Tribes all evolved into the five different ones in modern Ninjago, so she has a few traits from different tribes (I'm debating on whether or not she has any kind of venom)

She takes great pleasure in seeing how annoyed and off-put Wu gets when she flirts with both Garmadon and Misako. Misako doesn't play into it, but she also doesn't stop Aspheera bc she thinks its just as funny as Aspheera does. Garmadon has not noticed that Aspheera is flirting with either of them.

Aspheera is Lloyds favorite babysitter.

Initially I was going to have Cryptor on here too, with a story about Borg Industry making the Nindroid army to help Wu combat the Garmadons, before the Army was hacked by Unagami and brought onto the Villains side, but I actually like the idea of Cryptor being a Hero while also being a massive asshole.

So next post will have him, Wu, and some of the other Heroes

New zane concept. Since his emotions can be tampered with and changed, there is the possibility of him glitching or getting hacked and being super emotional. Like he’s actually just crying at everything, or being suddenly very grumpy and irritable, or overwhelmingly joyful.

What if also factors like food or sleep contribute to how glitchy he can be (mirroring humans), meaning a no sleep zane will be unusually grumpy.

Idk I really like the idea of zane getting an update that glitched his system and being unhinged until it’s fixed

since everything's all swapped around, it means that harumi is the daughter of wu (hehe haWUmi), and wu is the lord of darkness and master of destruction. misako stays where she is bc i couldn't think of anyone to swap her with gfkjdhfgkjh (and btw she has glasses bc i hc her to be albino and albino ppl tend to have poor vision, so i thought it'd be cute :) since i used to hc lloyd with glasses at some point i thought it would fit)

skylor's mom died recently, and she's been trying not to think about it by drowning herself in work at the noodle shop, where her dad chen is trying to get her to lighten up and not work so hard. she gets approached by garmadon to train with her mother's fire and she accepts. chen is a wonderful dad and i LOVE HIM

unagami (prefers gami) is a Gamer™️ and has two whole dads (milton dyer and okino). despite being tiny, permanently babyfaced, and a Gamer, he talks very politely and uses a lot of big words. okino raised him like that :) scott is the previous elem of lightning but i haven't decided where he is in the story yet, but i want him to be gami's uncle. also gami is a vtuber

morro was found as a kid rooting through garmadons trash, so ofc garm went "hm. i want this rat as my child" and adopts them dkjfghdfjh they got their earth power from their parent, who is still unknown to everyone. they're still just as emo bc they have an excuse to wear black at all times jdkfghkjdfg (morro also gets kai's jealousy arc and realization that the green ninja is to be protected, so they end up taking kai's role as the green ninja's older sibling, in this case rumi)

cryptor was built by cyrus borg in this au, but still deep in the forest where no one could find them. he was originally built to assist borg with household things but he started to see cryptor as his son as his ai developed. borg got kidnapped at some point, so cryptor is trying to find him. unknown if cry knows about being a nindroid at first or not, but he's prone to short circuiting due to how snappy he gets.

and kalmaar (sometimes called kali or mar depending on their mood) is the water ninja now! bc i thought it'd be absolutely hilarious to put this purple bitch boy in a hero's role dfkjghkjdhfg he got exiled from merlopia after his father and (adopted) brother disagreed with his human-loving notions, and decided that weakness wasn't tolerated. and because of Magic i guess, kalmaar is able to shift from his squid form to a more lego head-esque form (aka i did not want to draw a squid head. good lird). also i made him genderfluid bc i can

Yes, i do think the ninja have dressed up as their villains in the most ugliest costumes known to man.

Kai dressed up as Aspheera but he just ties a few long blue scarf around his waist and slaps on yellow eye contacts.

Jay dyes his hair white, slaps on the most nerdiest red clothes (Kai’s) and wears some red and dark blue makeup.

Nya wears three skirts with long backs that point in different directions, slaps an ugly crown Vania never liked, paints her skin purple, and calls it a day. She also buys a fake long moustache and sticks it on.

Zane wears all black and makes Pixal turn her led lights red. They look like a punk couple.

Cole tries to get Yang to turn him into a ghost again. When that didn’t work he convinced him to float headless next to him as he wear some of Wu’s old robes that he died black and got Skylor to give the broken staff that was once Chen’s.

Lloyd…just grows two arms. But then he decided hell no and wore a white wig and pink makeup. Harumi was not impressed (she reluctantly taught hum how to do the red face paint).

Wu decided to be funny and was the one who dressed up as Garmadon. Actual Garmadon was not impressed to find Wu wearing one of his old battle armours whilst wearing the same marking he has on his own face.

So I have no idea why this came to mind, but this is what I had in mind if I wanted to tackle Zane post s11 and during s12 if I rewrote Prime Empire- my AU n shit ig?? Dunno, im rambling.

Imagine a Zane post Secrets of the Forbidden Spinjitzu where he was struggling to really figure out his identity after his time spent as the Ice Emporer.. before the events of Prime Empire and during..

It begins with him being unable to sleep; of him being hyper aware of how the temperature drops slightly below the normal and the sun departs to allow the moon to take its place above Ninjago with its pale blue/white light. He gets flashbacks to the blizzards every time he sees a night cloud cover the orb of light.

His breathing quickens, and he feels alone again. Even with his family nearby sleeping soundly. Of his other half who's silently standing behind him with concern in her gaze because she can't understand.

He gets flashbacks to the screams, the roars and shrieks he created when he attacked the Yeti's at the peaks every time he's taken to Jamanakai for a quick shopping trip. The crunch of snow below his feet causes him to flinch as if he's been struck. His hands clench, and because of him being upset, the temperature drops, which causes him to spiral without Pixal to reign him in.

He can't visit Jamanaki anymore.

He can't look at Lloyd longer than a minute before hurting inside at how there's frostburn imprints on his brothers throat, shoulders, and chest. Lloyd tries every day to approach him and explain that it wasn't his fault - trying to tell him that it wasn't his fault, but Zane shuts him out because of how Vex would coercer him into comitting unspeakable thanks against the peoples of the Never Realm. Whispering, offering reassurances, and pointing out possible threats to the Ice Emporer- HIM.

He can't train at all, with his brothers or his sisters. He can't bear to train with Pixal either. Worried that he'll get lost in the violence that was himself in the Never Realm.

Not even Wu can break through to him.

Snow has remained dormant within, every time he considers summoning his companion - his familiar.. he can't help but see the ghost of Boreal whenever his spirit flies. The other animals belonging to the Ninja miss their winged friend, too, but can't do anything to help.

Zane's just stuck in this constant loop of uncertainty of what to trust, WHO to trust. Because he doesn't trust himself, and Pixal can only do so much to provide comfort.

So imagine his sheer panic of if Unagami had reached out somehow - someway and had dragged Zane into Prime Empire?

Imagine the fear of seeing Mr. E- his BROTHER. Echo Zane, part of the group assigned to hunt him down as an avatar of the real thing because Unagami can access his memories. His deepest fears. His worst enemies. His younger brother being one of them because Echo Zane, too, had been built to protect.. yet turned his back on it because of fate and Dr. Juliens deteriorating memory, and because.. of Zane himself unintentionally.

Zane was afraid of his younger brother. He followed orders to a T- he fought with the intent to kill. He was friends with Harumi.

Zane was afraid of becoming like the violent side of Echo Zane.

On the other side of the spectrum- he would encounter avatar! Cryptor, a Nindroid, just like himself, but in every way his opposite, too. Whereas Zane was human, Cryptor accepted that he was a machine. He taunted Zane for his age, for his ability to sympathize with beings that could die. His inability to be WEAK. Perfect in comparison to Zane's broken state. In his view- Zane saw Cryptor as somebody who knew what they were.

I just finished rewatching season 3 because I'm a filthy Rebooted enjoyer, and can I just say that it's actually kinda nice that all the other nindroids have personalities distinct from Zane's?

Like it would've been so easy to just make all robots talk and act like Zane, thereby handwaving all of Zane's 'odd' traits as a matter of him just being Not HumanTM. But they didn't!

Pixal, Cryptor, Echo, Mindroid, Mr. E, LATT3, and heck Unagami while we're at it - they all have distinct personalities that are separate not just from Zane, but from each other as well. They're all unique individuals, they're all people. And idk I just think that's pretty cool

**The Pyro Vipers were initially mummies. Once Aspheera lost her power they would’ve died, since Aspheera’s magic is what was keeping them alive.

***I included Zane here because while he was technically in a comatose state, I would still consider it a sort of death, since there was originally nothing that could be done for him before Pixal intervened.

****The Preeminent was the Cursed Realm. When she died, so did everyone in it.

*****At one point there is a second MiniPix besides MiniPix Seven, but it’s never seen again so I’m not counting it here.
